Running back, d-lineman choose Warriors
Running back Miles “Bam-Bam” Reed of Centennial High in Corona, Calif., and defensive tackle/nose guard Doug Russell of O’Dea High in Seattle committed to the Warriors today. Here’s the skinny (full story in Monday’s Star-Advertiser):
Miles Reed:
> In 2016, he rushed for 2,198 yards (8.2 per carry) and scored 34 TDs.
> Gained 302 yards against Chandler, one of Arizona’s top schools, and 179 against IMG Academy.
> His close friend is UH running back Freddie Holley.
> He models his style after Le’Veon Bell. “I like the way he runs patient, looks for holes, and once they open, hits them hard,” Reed said.
> He’s 5-8, 185 pounds, and can run the 40 in 4.53 seconds.
Doug Russell
> He visited UH three weeks ago but wanted to be absolutely sure before making a decision. “I didn’t want to commit to de-commit,” he said. “That’s not the person I am. If I give my word, I want to keep my word.”
> He projects to play d-tackle or nose guard. “The trenches are the best part of the game,” Russell said.
> He serves as engineer for his friends’ rap and R&B recordings.
Foist?
What a beautiful day in the 808 (as opposed to last weekend’s sucky weather).
Come on ST, the weather is always good in paradise 🙂
Twice last week, I had to scrape off ice off my windshield, with lows dipping in the 30’s.
Come on ST there is no sucky weather when you compare what is going on with the mainland weather. I appreciate the weather in Hawaii nei.
Swirling wind gusts, but otherwise really nice day. Anxiously awaiting the final recruiting class results.
Miles Reed to announce his commitment on twitter today at 7:30 p.m. PST. WSU, Hawaii, Montana . . .
Who were the 6 visitors this weekend? I hope we have a backup plan for Reed, as I think he’ll go elsewhere. Any QB prospects?
It depends on where in the 808. Rain and wind here.
Nice bunch of commits hope they all sign.
Sign ’em up! Train ’em up! Keep the Pride rollin’!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Shaping up to be a pretty nice recruiting class! Locals or not… we’d take all who want to be Warriors! Let’s continue to build Priderock!
Looks like Miki Suguturaga is going away. He said, “With Hawaii, over the past few months visiting schools, there was that feeling that I could always come home to UH and it was a cool thing for me.”
bowar…I’ll bet you lunch Miles Reed is a warrior.
Miki who?
How ’bout Big Doug!
Yes, Haka, Doug Russell has committed!

If we can keep all these commits I love the size of this class!
Regardless of more decomitts….this is the best looking group after praying for over forty years
Decomitts….decomitts?
So old cannot spell
Looks like al wins lunch.
Long video but here it is:

Doug Russell and Miles Reed pretty good day. Still got to hang on to commits and have the back up plan ready. Would like the Sise kid to commit great height based on picture. Don’t think we lost much in the two star that went to Cal
Gained Russell and Reed lost Reinwald to Cal and Mermea to likely SDSU. The gains help offset some of the losses a little.
Mermen made a very strong personal statement regarding his commitment to us-we will see
Mermea
Yoshi – Decommits no matter anyway. We want the guys who are her to play! And I agree, this is a good looking group!
Interesting article in the SA today. And Lassner is right: playing to play in your home field is just plain wrong. I hope UH makes money for home games and all of the revenue goes to UH. The legislature can’t underfund the stadium AND UH sports. Something’s going to give!

Reed Russell-ing in the valley
natives are restless
Rolo adding up the talley
Pride Rock is da best
🙂
Watching some of the Pro Bowl…
Looks like a huge crowd.
So who needs them? They need us more.
So let’s try to get the Canadian Championship Game
to be played here… As well as the USA small college
championship game. Both should be doo-able. 🙂
Mr. Mermen, another fellow UH commit said “my word is my bond.” Good advice to me. Up to you.
Mermea’s mother is part-Hawaiian. Hopefully he sees the opportunity he’ll have if he comes to UH to learn more about his heritage. He won’t connect to his culture in San Diego, that’s for sure.
Getting Miles Reed makes it a great day. Adding Doug Russell is the frosting.
Bummed that we lost Reinwald…Good to hear that Reed will come here. I’ll be really bummed if Mermea decides to go to SDSU. It’ll go down to the wire as to who actually signs on Wednesday…Keep praying.
I don’t recall recruiting being this exciting (or nerve-wracking) for those who follow the Warriors somewhat closely in recent memory.
Might be tempting for Mermea to flip to the Aztecs…….given that the SDSU campus is only a 1 hour drive from Murrieta……a straight shot South on the 15 Freeway.
Another classy guy, Doug Russell. He keeps his word. Not like some guys. Reinwald, well I hope you like being in last place in the PAC 12. Okay with me. Besides, his name reminded me on one Mr. Rewald and that didn’t turn out too well for many in Hawaii.
The challenge for the coaching staff is to find as way to use both Holly and Reed in the backfield. Option?
Lol, I was just thinking the same thing about the name sounding similar to Ronald Rewald.
I believe Holly is bigger, stronger and faster now with 1 year under his belt. Adding Reed would be a change of pace back which he brings to the field. Rotating Holly and Reed would be a good 1-2 punch.
Thanks for confirming the commitments, Stephen.
This is a bit of a stretch, but Reed reminds me of Donnell Pumphrey the way he jump cuts and finishes off his runs by taking on defenders. And, if he ran for 179 yards against IMG Academy, he’s legit. IMG is a football factory in Florida that, according to one account, has two 5-star recruits (both committed to Alabama) and four 10-star recruits.
38. probably someday but not next year when Saint Juste is a sure starter barring injuries.
#40….UH played 3 rbs last season(DSJ, Lakalaka and Harris). There is room for Reed to play if he is in the top 3. Rolo is not afraid to put freshmen in the games if they can help the team win.
True freshmen that played last year….Kala Timoteo,Viane Moala, Jeremiah Pritchard, Ikem Okeke, Davine Tullis just to name a few. I’m sure Rolo sold Reed on a chance to play right away with the lost of Lakalaka and Harris.
DSJ should be senior next year.
Yeah…I too, was somewhat disappointed to see Reinwald de-commit. However, can you blame him for not turning down a University of California at Berkeley education. From one of the top universities in America.
Nice gets! Who did we beat out getting Reed? #priderockbaby!
#43, agree with Al. Many in-state valedictorians and salutatorians with stellar SAT and ACT scores can’t gain admission into the flagship UC campus. Reinwald is fortunate to get the late offer.
With that said, his decommit means opportunity for someone else.
CANADIAN FOOTBALL GAME HERE IS AN AWESOME IDEA.
CANADIAN FOOTBALL USED TO BE SHOWN REGULARLY HERE IN THE EARLY TO MID SIXTIES; I WATCHED IT ALL THE TIME.
hope Timoteo receives a lot more playing time this year — last year, it appeared that he did well catching balls and YAC
yet, his name was not called often — why? no stone hands – athletic – runs good routes — gains yardage
be exciting to see several new “red shirts” mixing in and getting playing time — RB, DL, LB, maybe even OL.
what’s up with Ulu Perry? still in school? on the team? who’s next in line to be center?
Wonder how old and skilled are Akebono’s boys
(he has some, right?). That would solve UH center
problems…
Let’s get the guys who WANT to be WARRIORS … to “heck” with the rest of ’em
LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS !!!!!
808 #50:
must agree with your statement as most of us feel the same way
sports section today shows the Kahuku DB as undecided — guess he was impressed with the Oregon State HC
one player is quoted as saying can always come home to play for UH if it does not work out on the mainland — UH being put into a second rate/class category?
brings me to the question: how many have requested and refused a spot on the football team in the past 15 years? rumor being some have been turned down like the Iolani player/parents who made unkind remarks of the UH program before leaving for the mainland.
while it may be interesting that NONE of the “top local players” stayed home in 2017 – UH can boast of a good 2017 recruiting class of those who truly want to be a WARRIOR!!!
