Princeton ties it up 25-22. needed three set points to end it. took a Ball State SE to finish it. Set 1 the Cardinals won on a Princeton service foot fault.
Set 3 ends on a service error.Ball State’s 18th SE. Princeton wins 25-23.
At least they are consistent. Set 4 ends on an SE. Ball State wins 25-19. on to Set 5.
Princeton had five chances to end it, couldn’t close. Cardinals do it on their second match point, 21-19. a combined 44 service errors.
Just watching Tui warm up it’s obvious the game comes easy to him and he’s blessed with strong hands.
starting for UH van Tilburg, Matautia, Mol, Franciskovic, Tuileta, Gasman, Fey
UH up 12-7. TO Erskine.
3. playing libero at the moment. he said it’s a change in mindset but he likes it. Although he does miss serving and hitting.
Two aces by Mol and it’s 15-7 at the TTO
Warriors win 25-11
Warriors with a completely new lineup in Set 2, Worsley setting. Only Mol still in.
UH up in set 2 15-12 at the TTO.
two kills by Rattray makes it 19-14. TO Erskine.
Anastassiades ends it with an ace 25-17.
Looking like Tuileta may move to hitter, he’s not wearing the libero jersey.
Worsley setting in Set 3, Tuileta at OH, LaRochelle at L. Also in McKellar, Anastassiades, Solbrig.
Solbrin with a sol and it’s 13-7. TO Erskine. the other MB is Mol, only player to see action all 3 sets.
Tuileta with his third kill, makes it 15-7 at the TTO
UH wins 25-9. Tuileta serves last seven points.
So tonight the match was not broadcast on TV. Anyone not present at the Stan Sheriff Center had to listen to the match just like me. For once I felt even with fans all over the country outside of Oahu. Listening to sports matches harks back to the first half of last century.
Who gets free tacos referred to by Tiff ?
21. anyone with a ticket from tonight can get 2 free tacos at Jack in the Box. as with the Wahine, that’s the promotion any time volleyball sweeps.
20. could be worse. it could by the 1970s and ’80s when volleyball wasn’t on TV or radio and there was no game tracker. or blog updates’-)
Had forgotten how dynamic Tuileta was. so quick. Jobey Ramos was sitting next to me and said, if you’re not there when Tui gets there you’ll never get there (for a block attempt).
Team looked good for their first match, just need to work on their rotation errors that kept occurring in the 2nd and 3rd sets. But with a new lineup in there I guess it took some getting used to.
Hope to keep it up through the season. Glad that Tui is on the team now, starters looked lethal.
Noticed when Worsley sets Tui it’s as quick a shoot set as can be executed. I mean it barely clears a foot above the net but Larry gets there so fast he’s able to find the seems in the block and unless the middle guesses right there’s no way he gets there in time. But he also looked very small blocking even against non elite 6’3″ outsides. But his knowledge of the game and his experience playing at a National level since he was about 12 years old in club ball at Junior Nationals shows. He slides to spots effortlessly covering his hitters or finding hitters angles and will be a tremendous back row guy. He will be a huge contributor just with his presence on the floor. Can see why he won all those accolades in high school.
Yes this is a deep team at the pins but they are not deep in the middle. Is anyone else really surprised Frank and Mckellar were moved to the pins?? it makes zero sense to me , those two who at times looked good in the middle last season . Mckellar has Rado and Stijn ahead of him on the right, and Frank will never play on the left behind Austin, Kupono, Brandon,Brett and Tui.
Also I want to see our setters set the middles more, passing was good enough. The middles should have been more involved. UCLA set their middles half the time in their game earlier against Penn State.

new thread up for Frida
28. so I’m assuming you were in the arena in order to make the observation about the passing. thought the middles were involved enough. hard to gauge because the competition was so poor. not like there were a lot of attempts.
Set 1 team was 8-2-14
the MBs were Gasman 2-0-3, Mol 1-0-1. Opp van Tilburg 3-1-4.
Set 2 team 14-4-21
Mis Mol 0-1-2, Solbrig 3-0-3. the freshmen OHs that they want to look at Parapunov 5-2-8, Rattray 5-1-6
Set 3 team was 9-2-16, Mol 1-0-1, Solbrig 1-0-2. Tuileta 5-0-8.
it’s early We’ll see what happens tonight vs. Princeton.
If last night was any type of indicator, despite the competition from Erskine, Dalton Solbrig is our best blocker in the middle. Has quicker feet and is more athletic than the starters and dominated the net at times. We’ll see tonight and tomorrow if that holds true. Last night was just a horrible team that will be over matched this weekend.
27. Frank is an undersized middle. no surprise that he’s moved to OH. and as you point out, he is way down on the depth chart
McKellar is an Opp, pressed into MB duties out of necessity last season. Had 17 starts last season at MB, the other matches he was Opp. so no surprise there either.
