How does Nikki look? Is her knee bothering her?
Taylor’s fine. she looks like she always looks. knee taped. Greeley has a knee support. Guinasso has a knee support. nothing out of the ordinary.
It was exciting to see Jenelle Hudson play this weekend. It also makes me excited for Norene Iosia’s arrival next year as she strikes me as being another S highly skilled at setting, serving, or playing defense/offense out of the back row. I’ll still be a fan of Kendra, though.
Thank you Cindy for all you do for this blog…
Have a great evening everyone..
BOWS on 3!!!!
Wow with Macy Gardiner out for ASU, they really don’t look the same anymore. It is so important to rest our star player(s) like Nikki every possible chance and develop the deep bench. We sure don’t want to run into the same scenario as ASU.
Developing the bench confidence only can pay huge dividends in our backend of our season
4. I’m with ya Jojo, Cindy does some bang up work on this blog along with a few other major contributors. Great work everyone! GO BOWS!
We have Mitchem and Castillo as outside hitters along with Granato. According to practice reports last week, Mitchem had been taking reps on the right and Castillo on the left. DNK if Mitchem is still taking reps on the outside through practices this week.
Looking ahead, Hawaii draws a bye following this weekend and ends their final home stand on NOV 1. Then, they grind out a brutal 6-game schedule on the road in 15 days! Yikes.
Wahine will have 12 days prep btw their last conference game on the mainland and their first playoff game in the subregionals. That means they return home before they depart for postseason play.
So, Coach Shoji has ample time to develop a contingency plan on the left or right side if needed.
In sum, we are very strong in the back row, the middle and at setter if a starter goes down.
The outsides need attention in terms of replacement scenarios.
It is a luxury to rest your players before the start of playoffs and if possible during the last week of conference play. Just to allow your body , legs and arms ample time to rest from the usual b&bs. We shall see how Shoji plays it in the last 15 days on the road.
I’ve been fortunate enough to get to 4 Final Fours – Richmond, New Orleans, Dallas, Tampa. Would love to have sat with all the UH fans there ( and they were there, albeit scattered throughrout the arenas) to cheer our Wahine on. Always envied the other schools red, blue, cardinal, yellow cheering sections …many with school bands. Wondered how those “other” schools did it …… Put together a fan section. Don’t remember Hawaii having much of a cheering section at the Final Fours I got to. Was stunned at Tampa to see an empty UH section with only the AD and a very few other UH staff people ….and some. Texas fans!! What does UH do, if anything, to help our Teams with a fan section support. Know the UH faithful were there. Know they would have loved to be in a UH sea if green. How do other schools do it?
#8 notice the 4 you went to are basically on the eastern half of the continent, Dallas being the farthest west. Who were the teams playing in those finals at those locations. If UH made it to a final four and the host city was on the west coast guarantee they will have a sea of green.
#8 Great point. Had been to most of the wahine NCAA tournament matches in CA at USC, Stanford and Long Beach. They were no official Hawaii section that we know in any of those matches. We would buy the tickets, which has assigned seating but then moved around the arena until we found where Moniz-Kaho’ohanohano and her group was setting, and sat next to them. It would be nice if there was some coordination.
There are supposed to be assigned sections for teams. Agree UH hasn’t been the best at helping fans coordinate.
as for the bands, that’s purely money. UH has had a small contingent at most final fours. I know that the last time (Tampa) band leader Gwen said some ‘angel’ gave a donation that got them there.
complete results from Wednesday
