Warriors end camp
The Warriors ended training camp with an animated 100-minute scrimmage at Aloha Stadium last night.
It was a good night for the offense — the line, quarterbacks and receivers had their moments — and the defense responded in the final three “quarters.”
To note:
> The players selected nine members to the leadership council — quarterback Ikaika Woolsey, offensive lineman Leo Koloamatangi, wideout Marcus Kemp, running back Steven Lakalaka, defensive end Makani Kema-Kaleiwahea, nose tackle Kory Rasmussen, safeties Daniel Lewis and Damien Packer, and kicker/punter Rigo Sanchez. Two freshman members will be added before the season opener.
> Woolsey was one of four team-appointed leadership council members who served as captains. Woolsey is widely regarded as the leading contender for the quarterback’s job. But head coach Nick Rolovich said Woolsey’s inclusion as game captain was not an indicator of a final decision. Woolsey completed 12-of-19 passes for 100 yards, including a 20-yard TD to slotback John Ursua. Ursua was targeted nine times, catching five for 80 yards.
> Aaron Zwahlen was 9-of-14 for 128 yards. He tossed a 22-yard scoring pass to slotback Dylan Collie.
> Dru Brown was 12-of-17 for 130 yards.
> Cole Brownholtz was 4-of-6 for 26 yards. He displayed his perimeter speed with his 5-yard sprint on third-and-4.
> Woolsey praised the offensive line as “the most consistent group in camp.”
> Despite allowing touchdowns on two of the first three drives, the defense relinquished only Rigo Sanchez’s 40-yard field goal in the final 12 possessions.
> The offense drove to the 31 before fumbling. Middle linebacker Jahlani Tavai picked up the ball and scooted 64 yards for the scoop-six.
> Communications went well. There did not appear to be any problems — or delays — in relaying calls between the coaches in the booth and on the field.
Lots to do yet….
Aloha everyone
Part of me wants Woolsey to have a new opportunity to succeed. The other part of me wants a complete fresh start. All of me wants UH to win.
A work in progress, but it looks like they’re doing good work.
GO WARRIORS!!!
#1 … “Al” … Amen to that
#3 … “Kev-1” … could not agree w/ you more. There’s been a lot of negative talk on this blog in regards to Ikaika. If he succeeds so will the team. Hey new coach, new system, new attitude, give the “Bruddah” a chance.
LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS !!!!!
Good problem to have with 3 QBs in the mix. May the best man win!
By the end of the season…one of the “Brownies” will make a significant impact.
I like Ikaika. He is a good man.
He will have his day.
I know we will be ready to compete. I believe this new era will be something to be proud of.
Please be patient as it won’t happen overnight.
So who’s the starter? Any feedback on the running game? And hopefully no injuries. Get ready to hunt some Bears! Golden ones. Go Warriors !!!
Who is in the booth for offense and defense ?
They tried to limit the reps for Saint Juste, Lakalaka and Harris. No sense pushing things with under 2 weeks before the opener. Davis got some work; Holly got a lot of work.
With all the talent we have at the skills, it will be fun to see who’s on the field on
game days. Multi faceted sets with different personnel will keep opponents guessing.
ST, makes sense. Thank you for the feedback. Much appreciated.
HERE WE COME!!!
Thanks, ST!
Go ‘Bows!
…Australian dollars…check

Go Bows!!!
Any other stats or maybe a summary of the scrimmage??
Tsai, you said: “Woolsey completed 12-of-19 passes
for 100 yards, including a 20-yard TD to slotback John Ursua.
Aaron Zwahlen was 9-of-14 for 128 yards.
He tossed a 22-yard scoring pass to slotback Dylan Collie.
Dru Brown was 12-of-17 for 130 yards.
And Cole Brownholtz was 4-of-6 for 26 yards.”
So…Dru Brown seems to be more bettah than Woolsey but no tds.
Hmmmmm…decisions, decisions, decisions. Oh heck, play all three 🙂
Two deep (depth chart) to be announced on Monday, per Rob DeMello on the news.
#16 … “3-prong” …

LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS !!!!!
Mr Tsai … per your comments (#12), how did Davis & Holly look @ RB ?????
Me is curious about the penalties last nite…if ne …were there zebras around ?
Just saw on the news that UH assistant football coaches were waving “Vote Rolo – Buy Season Tickets” signs along Dole Avenue. Well, if you wish to sell something, you need to showcase the product. Sorry, but I did not see or feel this during the fall camp. Just a lot of questions. A couple of early wins though, will drive up ticket sales.
The pitch or push to generate tickets sales is a great community outreach approach. The fan base in my opinion was pushed to the side the last several years. The way I see it, it’s the only game in town-your either a fan or you ain’t. Me I’m a fan, a big one so I’m buyin-but cause I live in Chicago I have to settle. For 2 or 3 away games. Hats off to Coach R and, staff!
How many season tickets sold this year?
Are they Up, down, no change from last regime?
Curious minds want to know.
808warriorfan: Thanks for the travel tips. Not really an oyster fan but I’m game for almost any other seafood….will try their wines too.
Go Bows!
What’s the status on Hendrie?
3-Prong, not sure who long you’re staying but if you get the chance check out the scenic Blue Mountains, which is about hour and half from Sydney. And on your way back, you can stop in Penrith and check out the Panthers Casino next to the rugby stadium. There’s also a Cherry Blossom Festival at botanic gardens in West Sydney this time of year. Just a few things to do while you’re there.
Opals from Australia are gorgeous
and won’t fill up your suitcase.
If you can, visit their diggings and
dig up one or two for yourself.
No respect:
“Because Cal will be a solid team this season, and they will play 11 other solid teams (and Hawaii!) . . .”

New season, new beginning – Go Warriors!
“3-Prong” … PRAWNS !!!!!
Reality will not sink in when our Warriors open their season against the California Bears in Australia next week. Was it a few months ago where the Bears were favorite as much as 24 points. All I can say is Hawaii Warriors “always” play tough in their opening game. I hope it continues against the Bears before close to 80,000 in attendance.
” The University of Hawai’i at Manoa Athletics Department announces the debut of “Speak Up,” a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) addressing the issue of violence. Four of the university’s head coaches are featured in this PSA produced by Oceanic Time Warner Cable …
“Domestic violence has no part of our football team and will not be condoned,” said Rolovich.
“All of our student-athletes participated in mandatory sexual violence prevention training,” said David Matlin, UH athletic director.

GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!
While I do feel for KT, the ad referred to in #33 makes it quite difficult for him to rejoin the team this year.
3 prong,no forget rent goggles, fins, and 3 prong. I think get plenty Tako, but always keep an eye out for the tax collector.
#35 … “Whitey” … you forgot to warn “3-Prong” about “JAWS” … lots of Great Whites in The Great Barrier Reef …
By the way to all traveling to Sydney … Foster’s Lager is NOT the beer of choice in Australia … It’s VB (Victoria Bitters) …
