Broadcast being picked up on the Big Island in Kona and Hilo
Not seeing a lot of purple under 75. Hawaii fans about 50. Mitchem’s dad, Taylor’s parents and brother. Booster club president, couple of other H shirts.
Very sad because there would have been at least 8,000 at the SSC.
good warmup music tho.

I’m on the watch ESPN site bit it doesn’t list the Wahine game at 5:30 eastern time. Should I be concerned??? This is my first attempt to watch online. Good luck Wahine!!
WD, they’ve got screw here. Link should be up Weird. I’m hoping because I may have to watch it. I’m way back in a corner Not a good angle
Other Dec 4/Frida Matches I’m Following
Two of UH’s non-PowerFive non-conference opponents won their league crown, and now face PowerFive opposition in Round 1.
Both UH opponents are widely expected to be swept by the all-powerful PowerFive teams. I think otherwise — wishful thinking, perhaps, but I’ve seen both American and Wichita State play live and know first-hand that they can give the PowerFive a run for their money.
American (AQ of the Patriot League) vs. Kentucky of SEC
Wichita State (AQ of the MVC) vs. Kansas State of the Big 12
GO BOWS!
WD, go to drop down menu for Coming Up
Shows up there. but no link yet
did you look at the “upcoming” section? it’s listed there most likely with the time listed for your time zone (e.g. 230 pm for pacific time)

T minus 6. Good luck, team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Radio’s working but video not clickable yet. Glad to hear someone brought a Hawaii flag!
Go thru hawaiiathletics.com … wahine schedule … live video…
don’t know what to tell you about video.
same starters as has been
Cindy and others, try going through hawaiiathletics link. I’m seeing video. (see post 10)
Video is working on espn
kaHAWK-EYE lol. Could be worse.
Video should be working
TCU up 7-2. TO UH. Last point on when Taylor blocked.
The new dink queens have arrived… TCU
ESPN3 scoring is off
Higging not setting the middles, not setting them well. Oh boy, I hope that changes QUICKLY!
Come on Wahine settle down.
I can’t watch the stats which are ahead of tv
Interesting subs. Castillo for Manu-Olevao, Granato for Greeley.
this is so hard to watch
Maglio looking really good.
Hitting error by Taylor makes it 18-10. TO UH
feed the middles the ohs arent getting it done. and the block no where to be seen.
aauughhh… :()!
can’t watch… gonna just hit the gym …
Dissapointed with the defense, they aren’t digging easy hit balls. TCU players have no heat at all.
sorry Wawa but what match are watch inching? Maglio 4-0-4,
Magill 1-0-5. Setting middle when it’s there.
Magill kill
set 1 a complete nightemare.
no one looks good in set one honestly. nikki is just not playing the way we would like her to play. TCU not doing anything fancy, Hawaii is just making it easy for them
Hopefully they wake up and play better or this will be a short and extremely embarrassing match
Castillo really struggling on serve receive.
TCU wins 25-17. needed 4 set points. We’ll see what happens in Set 2. Which hasn’t has dropped in 27 matches
31. Maglio is awesome
That was embarrassing, Hope UH picks it up quickly or they will be considered an extremely over rated team.
TMO is killing us backrow for the million times. Savannah needs to know after all these games she needs to motor her behind…we are not legit…sorry….bring Koelsch in!…Get TMO every single time she goes behind it we will not advance…sorry the truth
Nikki Taylor hitting -.308. I can’t remember seeing anyone ver hitting that far under .000
A few bright spots in first set. Breathe deep and knit those together in second set.
Dave? Do you want to lose? Get TMO OUT!!!!
Diana Jessies just stopped by to say hello. Always good to see the former Wahine.
TMO having a very bad receive match right now.
TCU up 8-4. TO UH
UH serving way too easy, and not blocking anything. TMO should not be passing and Higgins is struggling and Taylor looks like she is trying too hard, needs to be benched for a bit to clear her mind.
42. not just her.
is TCU that good or are we that bad?
Wonder why we haven’t seen Kendra yet? Not saying Higgins is playing horribly but we’ve seen how Kendra can provide that necessary spark
45. No kidding. Read my other posts above.
TMO is having a bad receive night all career. It is just haunting us now in postseason. We need some height up front or new players …we need to find someone on the bench to energize this team
Koelsch in for Higgins at 11-8
Is Kendra injured, or ill?
Give TCU credit. They look prepared and are executing well.
I’ll say it again, Maglio having a monster game.
That 12th point looks more like us. Whew
Hawaii up 14-13. TO TCU. This is the rotation they can do something with Anderson serving.
Is Mitchem cleared to play?
TCU on a 3-0 run UP 1917. TO UH
56. no. not that they’d put her in
the connection with Higgins and Magill is not there, very disappointing.
The block is awol.
After Maglio, Magill and Greeley, nothing from UH offensively. Only 3 with positive hitting percentages.
Our weaknesses is being exposed!!! Cannot wait til next year….Dave, please play your bigger athletes.
Koelsch needs to be playing front row.
Ace by Anderson gives UH set point at 24-23. TO TCU
Uh needs to get off a better start and just blow them out the next two games.
WHAT THE HECK UH?!?! They put the radio on in the back and I’m gonna get in trouble for swearing!! They better get their act together, this is horrible. I’m kinda glad I can’t visually see this bc I would be more livid then I already am!!!
Dig by Taylor goes over. Good screen by Koelsch. UH wins 25-23. keeps their Set 2 streak going at 28-0
Phew !!!
Glad to see that #2 served for #14.
Wow Greeley’s shoulder must be real sore…Her ball is lacking pop…Even she is not her usual steadiness out there…Maybe coach may want to use Casey Castillo.for her or TMO
Thank god they pulled that 2nd set off. The streak is still alive! At least they are tied up. I really didn’t like their chances if they went down 0-2 especially with the momentum TCU would have had. It would have reminded me of the BYU match in the 2nd round couple years ago.
American swept Kentucky…
It looks like TCU us a crossbred of Long Beach St. and Cal Poly…they play hard and with lots of energy…Our girls can do it but they need to shore up there blocks and pass the better you think?
We cannot win without Kendra Koelsch. Our block is scattered and should be tighter.
TAMU is better than TCU. Shoji is stubborn. It’s his to lose or win.
The biggest issues aside from bad passing from Kahakai and TMO, no blocks and too many hitting errors, is just not showing any emotion at all, very low energy.
Hope they clean it up and get off to better start in set 3.
62. Agreed. There were a few plays there where her height would have a made a big difference.
The BWC just doesn’t prepare us well for post season matches like this.
Kahakai with 15 digs already. UH outblocked 6-1. Taylor out of negative 9-7-25. Magill 7-1-17. Greeley 7-1-18, Maglio 7-1-12. Manu-Olevao 4-4-18. Granato 1-0-1. 1 ace, 2SE.
TCU hitting 312 for the match, 238 in Set 2. Mikals 7-1-14, Martin 5-2-10, McGuire 6-0-12. Glover 6-0-18.
73. Are you watching Koelsch sets? she blocks well but her sets to the left side not very good. but guess we should watch the match
The issue isn’t the setting. It is the serve-receive. That and TCU hitters have unorthodox swings. Well Anderson with a service error. her first in about 240 attempts. Last came against UCLA
And Taylor having an up and down match. Taylor with another hitting error. it
s 8-4 TO UH
espn3 is slow and jerky for me. What I was able to catch is nobody on the Hawaii side is showing much emotion or energy.
Take Nikki Taylor OUT. She is not playing her way into the match
jeez another slow start, what is wrong with this team .
koelsch hasnt made that many sets. higgins has been off all night.
Please tell me there is nobody on the bench that can replace TMO….she is very bad….come on coach…I would serve her all nite and set the ball to Higs side all the time
keep setting the middles. they are the only ones getting it done.
80 yeah ESPN3 has several VB matches streaming now, bet the call on its servers is building with the mainland folks coming home from work
On the positive side, winning Set 2 was all-important to the Wahine. Good to see Taylor digging herself out of that deep negative hole.
On the negative side, the 2 co-captains remain the X factors, as they have been all season long. TMO is a streak player. Team Shoji has got to recognize when she’s not hitting the way she hits when she’s on one of her streaks.
GO BOWS!
sorry lost the internet. UH upUH was up 14-11. TCU has tied it at 14. Anderson serving at 1
Magill with 2 solo. UH up 17-14. TO TCU
Taylor hits wide (not her fault) then blocked. TCU has closed to 19-17. TO UH
Keep setting Olivia and Em, no sense going to TMo.
Nikki is not making a case for first team all american today, she is not playing well at all.
91..YES set the Middles only….don’t set TMO…too much bazooka only…I great kill 5 blocked back..
UH was up 24-19. they deserve to lose this TCU up 25-24
Wow. UH gave up 7 straight. TCU wins it 26-24.
94. Agree, monumental collapse by UH. Now UH needs to play lights out or they are coming back home.
This is getting hard to watch. So predictable and so messy. Can’t expect to blow 4 set points and win in the tournament.
OMG TMO….it’s all you coach…even ROLO could see thar
That was a loss by the UH coaches.
Hawaii struggling and maybe losing in the 1st round isn’t making much of an argument for its top 10 ranking. 🙁
Thats on the coach for keeping TMO in the passing rotation. why would they set greeley back to back and not go to the middle.
Hitting error, hitting error, hitting error…The #1 blocking team being outblocked 12-5…Depressing!
TCU on cloud9 after that comeback. I hope they come back and win the next two but that quite possibly could have been the match
Wow. That might be the turning point of the match.
Wow…………… my stomach hurts……… playing poor competition in conference is showing. We need to join the PAC 12….. Let’s Go Bows…. still have a chance….. play like you know you can play…….
We are not playing well overall except Middles but TMO really kills us…It should be different next year….it all starts with the PASS
You might as well kiss the season goodbye!!!!
how did that happen? omg this is a disaster
YTMO in the back, Higgins in the front row–nightmare!
Nikki and greeley and TMO four hitting errors to give TCU that set. unaccapetable.
I know this was going to haunt us!!! We just were lucky to get by all year…It was exposed but we did nothing about it…the primary blame is ?
107….what’s new? Same old thing….
8-4, looks like Hawaii is gathering itself. Cmon team!
UH up 8-4. TO TO TCU.
Agree that is probably the weakest rotation.
BTW what I meant was that if they couldn’t pull it out after being up 24-19, they deserved to lose the set.
Set 5 is so short. not liking those chances.
Too much Pride and Stubborness….I going show you my way is the best way….you have to fix what’s broken before it gets ruined and messy…
When will the coach figure it out that TMO in the backrow hurts the team more than it helps??
what is hurting is the unformed errors. they’ve been called for net violations a ridiculous amount of times.
112. Yes, I knew what you meant, and yes, they deserved that third set loss.
I think Shoji has decided to roll the dice with TMO…if she plays well, then great, if not, so be it.
With all the poor play, let’s not forget the good play of Magill, Magill, Greeley, and Kahakai.
Not good for TCU. Smith down for a long time. UH up 20-17.
Blurry video here, are all the net violation calls legit?
Seems the officials are on calling the net violations but not there with the ball handling ones.
It’s not all on Manu-Olevao.
Greeley was blocked twice to the match. Taylor with another hitting error.
Manu-Olevao was aced, making it 24-23. Maglio was blocked. It was a team collapse.
This is like watching the Aloha Stadium’s jumbotron race where the colored-ball racers race around, changing positions, them just at the end, the winner jumps ahead to win. In set 3 it was the blue ball. Green leading in set 4, but blue timeout. Here we go, final stretch.
Won’t show the replay but TCU hit long and they called it in. 22-19.
TCU closes to 23-21. TO UH.
Couldn’t tell if the NVs were legit. I’m way behind the baseline. but it looked like incidental contact not involving the play.
120. Clearly the collapse isn’t on TMO. My comment addressed all the posters who are expressing their frustration with her play and coach’s decision to leave her in. I think we need to accept that she is staying in and need to hope she plays better.
Oh god I really hope they don’t lose the lead again
UH wins 25-21 on a block.
Block!!!
Dig deeply, ladies.
Come on Wahine!!! You can do it!!!!
Awright, Nikki Taylor closed it out. On to 5.
We are going to find out if the team has heart or not now.
Go Now!
Did they teach her how to pass at Punahou?? Sorry, but there is no excuse for that…Scholarship too!
Listening to set 5 on the radio and can I get clarification of how many shanks TMO has had? From what I’m reading from u guys, HER PASSING IS HORENDOUS
Video still terrible and audio drops out for long periods of time. If there is a 2nd game, isn’t there some kind of way Oceanic carry the feed?
No she got subbed out for a DS so they could win.
Wahine early season opponent American just swept Kentucky of the SEC 3 – 0.
Win or lose, this is a poor performance by the Wahine.
8-7 us ahead. Let’s go Bows!!!
Taylor with a touch. UH up 9-7. TO TCU
Claire makes so many good plays it boggles my mind why she doesn’t play three rotations in the backrow for TMO,
How in the world 5 players in double digits but we are playing SO horrible! Ugh lets go bows!!!
Whoever is in the video booth needs to stop with the closeups and keep up with the serves.
UH serving for the match 14-11. TO UH
Now this would be bad. TCU closes to 14-13. TO UH
lol I just hope they serve it into the net
UH wins 15-13
Higgins makes terrible decisions in crunch time.
Thank goodness!
Whew!!!
Yes…Round 2!
Way to grind it out but they must elevate their play tomorrow.
greeley really saved that last point by keeping some awful sets in play.
Again Higgins sets in crunch time are highly questionable.
Dave and the girls are gonna get my doctor’s bill because my blood pressure was going through the roof…lol
Tai helped us win with some crucial points in the last set, no matter her tough game. Hope we learned our lesson to set the middles more and not depend so much on Nikki. Go BOWS!
Will tomorrow’s match with UH be shown online on ESPN3? Please inform. Thank you.
154 … and for throat drops for me. Losing my voice and the poor dog is hiding.
A close one, but it’s a WIN and on to TEXAS A&M. This was a good match to get out of the way. On the road and in hostile territory. Wahine will be better prepared for tomorrow’s match.
Wow, almost a disaster in the first round, but credit to the Wahine for gutting out the win despite being off kilter. I sure hope they play up to their potential in the next round.
Okay as a coach do you live and die by your lineup or do you try to insert Koelsch in as a starter to mess up Texas AM scouting report…I definitely would use Granato or Anderson backrow with Savannah. It is not like we use the middle 10meter attack that often anyways. How about trying to sneak Casey in for inconsistent TMO, injured Greeley, or injured Nikki at OH? To me, you have to try all things in Round 2 and on…That’s why I thought during the regular season Casey should have gotten more opportunities. She could have been that weapon from the bench….but then again that’s why I am the bleachercoach only
156, this grid may be updated quicker than hawaiiathletics …

#158H-Man, which Texas A & M team?
Opening round of the Women’s Big Dance, much like March Madness there’s bound to be some upsets. We were lucky not to be one of them. Going 5 one would think the Wahine won’t have too much left in the tank for tomorrow. I’m thinking the girls will dig deep and come out fighting. Their adrenaline reserves will kick in and carry them through.
The girls don’t need anyone telling them they didn’t play their best. Athletes are usually their own harshest critics they know they could have done better. Time for them to focus on the next game whoever it is and let this one go. Enjoy the win, get some rest and be ready tomorrow.
Was this Olivia’s career high with 19 kills? Tayler Higgins led the Wahine blocking with 4 blocks . What?
Not taking anything away from the great performance by the Frogs, but has anyone mentioned the obvious reason for this less-than-stellar Round 1 by the Bows?
It’s been about 2 weeks since Na Wahine played. While some said the long rest was a welcomed period for physical healing for the Women of Manoa, turn the coin on its opposite end and we see that the UH is not the same UH team when it comes off a long rest.
In the end, congrats to the 2 seniors — OMG and TMO — for showing the much-needed senior leadership in the final set.
157 – you crack me up… best comment thus far!
ok… thanks for the cardiac almost arrest… please please pull out it tomorrow! 🙂 🙂
go bows!
Congrats Ladies! Everything that could go wrong – did go wrong! Yet, you have heart and you found a way to win. Bravo!
TCU came out to beat us – and almost there. I thought wahines were playing more not to lose than to win. Well, as we found out today, you can’t play not to lose. You need to play the next match as it is your last and you have nothing to lose. So, no more discussions about sweet 16/8/4 because as it looks right now, you will be fighting for your lives tomorrow night! And with a little luck, I know you can!
166, thanks lol (ouch cough).
Wishing the team, staff, family/friends and us fans a calmer afternoon/evening and a good rest for tomorrow’s excitement.
Back to TMO: I lover her as well as her mom…they are so respectful and beautiful people…in my frustration as well as others I am not blaming the athlete. That’s not their fault of lacking certain skills. I blame the coach but because he is showing his compassion and confidence towards her, he should treat every player and give every player that same treatment too…I see many players past and present and after 1 error he yanks them out…So what’s the difference?… it is frustrating because I we cringed, I can imagine how coach might feel, “Should I keep her in or bring her out?”…just don’t let it happen too long in Round 2 thereafter because our weaknesses has been exposed and better teams will capitalized on it
Okay I pau whine….great heart attack win ladies…this match reminds me of the Hawaii of Old and Hawaii of today…TCU was the Hawaii of Old…emotional, scrapping for every point with tips, short serves, etc…but still was worn down by the more powerful team at the end. Hawaii today, more business-like, less emotional but self controlled, lose a set here and there but prevails at the end because the power comes out at the end…I like an emotional, charged, scrappy, powerful team, but heck: you can play whichever way you want to as long as we get the “W” at the end. Okay I going take an extra blood pressure pill before tomorrow’s match…Love you TEAM!
#3. No doubt one of the arguments used against UH hosting a subregional was its SOS (Strength of Schedule), which included playing against American and Wichita State (AQs of their respective leagues).
American of the Patriot League? Puhleese! If ever there was a Round 1 cakewalk for Kentucky, which tied for 2nd in the SEC (after Texas A&M), American is it. Result: American wins, 3-0.
Wichita State of the Missouri Valley Conf? A piece of cake for Kansas State of the Big 12. Result: Wichita St wins, 3-0.
.
Love it that the Wahine dug deep and pulled this match out, in spite of their horrendous play. Were it not for our Dynamic Duo of OMG and Magnificent Mag, the Wahine would be packing their bags and heading home.
No two players on this team are as dependable as the M&M girls. Both should be considered for AA after all is said and done. LET’S GO BOWS.
170. yes, thank you, enough whining about Manu-Olevao. She came up big during the match as someone pointed out. got aced twice. Had 14 kills, 10 digs.
171. Hawaii’s RPI was 26. It did not move last week despite UCLA upsetting USC, Wichita State and American winning out.
But thanks for the reminder that they haven’t played in a week.
They found a way to win, and that is what mattered.
agree. don’t know how much they’ll have left for tomorrow.
Did ask Shoji about him subbing Castillo and Granato early but not using them late. He said they weren’t going to win with that lineup.
anyway, I have to go write and watch the second match.
Laters
Harvard took first set off Nebraska! Tied at 1
Texas didn’t have it easy winning over Purdue: 25-14, 14-25,25-19,27-25
and yes, Magill career high 19. previous was 17
Have they said anything about Nikki’s injury? was worried when Tiff said she was limping around
The problem me and some others seem to have with TMO is Dave keeping her in the backrow to pass, her passing is very inconsistent, for every good pass, there are about two bad ones. It effects the offense. Claire is a decent passer and makes great digs, she should be the ds for Olevao.
178. Cindy talked about this before. If Claire subs for TMO then you need another DS to serve for one of the middles. Lib can’t serve for both. Issue with this is that Dave would run out of subs in a high scoring game and you don’t want middles playing back row.
171. Perfect example of cherry picking the data. Let’s look at all UH’s competition please. I can find more than enough teams to demonstrate poor SOS.
So happy that they won. I’m hoping they have an easier time tomorrow. Was very impressed with our middles. I hope they continue their great hitting.
173, my favorite TMO play today was when she scored the 10th pt. in one of the sets, a hammer straight to the floor. It was after that the Wahine started stringing together little runs that got bigger. When the camera panned the audience near the end it was nice to see her mom there along with some other green shirts.
Totally agree with menehune, the dynamic duo saved our bacon. One of the announcers talking about Nikki’s stats said “Can you imagine what she would be like if she were having a good night?” I hope they find out tomorrow.
lol someone just now said, “Hope we learned our lesson to set the middles more”
Shoji NEVER learned that lesson. Teams look at 20-year old video to scout UH.
The ESPN3 announcers who called our match also called the subsequent one. When it ended, they said they would have the call of our match tomorrow on ESPN3. So glad that we have a radio option to stream alongside the video.
anyone watch the Texas A&M match? i did here and there and i mean they didn’t do anything fancy and Corpus Christi really was one awesome defensive team. wish the islanders could have at least taken a set off of A&M. anyways tomorrow should be exciting to see
A&M sweeps Corpus Christi 25-16, 26-24, 25-15. The Islanders had set point in Set 2 and couldn’t close it out.
in Set 5, UH had 15 kills to win it. Manu-Olevao was 5-0-6, Taylor 5-0-8, Magill 4-0-6. Maglio 1-0-3. Only 1 hitting error and that Greeley 0-1-6
Can’t set the middles unless the passing is there. Magill was facing triple blocks. As she said in the press conference TCU finally figured out to stack the middle which opened up the outside.
UH middles set a combined 60 times.
Five players each with over 10 kills – and new records for setting, digging, kills for several player. Shoji did say over and over that TCU was going to be tough match. A lot of fans didn’t think so and were already talking about beating Texas A&M and Penn. Lesson learned – focus on one match at a time and don’t talk about any other future matches! Our ladies can beat Aggie tomorrow night. IMO, Nikki appeared to not elevate tonight. In set 5, when she put a lot of effort to elevate, her shots started to look like her normal shots – but she started to limp more noticeably after that. Nikki is going to need a lot of help tomorrow night.
Cindy, how full did the stands get near the end of the A&M-Corpus Christi match?
And just wondering how this pencils out for NCAA if tickets there are $3/pop and it’s not full. Or does most of the money stay with the venue, so that NCAA would be getting a similar payout per ticket or per match no matter where the matches are?
Still think UH is the best team in College Station…I think today was a wake-up call/shake off the cobwebs match…I predict that tomorrow they will be fired up and ready to go…
Wow Western Kentucky sweeps Arizona
I think the team will come back tomorrow and play a lot better than they did today. I think the fact that they were pretty much about to get ousted in the first round really woke them up. I think a big difference though with this team than the previous couple years is although they really didn’t play very well they kept their composure and stayed in it and pulled it off in the end. I think some of the previous UH teams would have collapsed completely and wouldn’t have come out on top. Great win
NCAA don’t care that Hawaii would draw 8500 fans and make much more money. If they did, we would host every year. Not good business sense to not make money but it’s subsidized by football and basketball. Tired talking about those idiots.
LMU took set 1 off Stanford…
Watching ohio/BYU , byu got a tough draw in the first round for a seed, Ohio is good.
Arizona no Mau, no chance.
LMU SWEEPS STANFORD!!!!!
Kinda wishing UH got stanford, they looked not very good although LMU had solid defense and setting.
It may not have been pretty, but a win is a win. Get some rest wahine, tomorrow is a new day. PLAY SMART, PLAY HARD! GO BOWS!
197. I’m sure Stanford is saying, “I wish we got UH today.”
Yup, Arkansas St got swept by Michigan St. So much for their No 16 RPI.
The WCC to me is the next Pac12..Hawaii would be battle tested in that Conference
199….LMAO!
never got an attendance. one of their people said it was the biggest crowd he’d seen. definitely not a neutral site. A&M got to do their normal home stuff.
aggies average 1570. high was 2782 vs. Alabama.
i’m guessing about 3200 tonight.
