Calling all Warriors

Kent Kafentzis
Kent Kafentzis

In the tradition of the Kafentzis family — and there were eight who played for the Warriors — Kent has battled valiantly and without complaint.

Kent is back in town. Friends have organized a potluck at Kaimana Beach this Saturday. It begins at 10 a.m. and lasts until the stories are told.

Everyone is invited. But if you need details, call Rich Miano at (808) 224-0911.

We can agree on one thing: Cancer sucks.

This Saturday, there will be a Speed and Quickness clinic at MPI. All proceeds will go toward helping to pay the medical expenses for Brad Swanson, a former MPI basketball coach who is suffering from inoperable brain cancer. Clinic is from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Entry fee is $10.

    Mornin’, papajoe2
Have you recuperated from your staycation?
I’ve been back a week, and I’m still jet-lagged from mainland trip.

The Kafentzis clan is arguably if not the most storied, is without a doubt, the most well represented family in the history of UH football. The brothers, who I know and played made an huge impact on the playing field and and off (many a UH coed had their heart either broken or teased by a K brother) from the late 70s to the mid 80s.

Kent was in MY estimation the hardest hitter of the brothers, and this includes 3 siblings who all had a stint playing on Sundays in the NFL. A humble, reserved and measured guy—For about 5-6 years I can’t recall a day not seeing or hanging out with one of the K brothers….Kent prayers out to you–holomua!!

Leisha Li’ili’i closed her University of Hawaii softball career by being named to the All-Big West first team for the second straight year.

Li’ili’i, a senior first baseman/designated hitter, was UH’s lone representative on the first team with freshman pitcher Brittany Hitchcock, sophomore first baseman Heather Morales and senior catcher Kayla Wartner named to the second team. Junior Keiki Carlos was an honorable mention pick. Hitchcock was also named to the all-freshman team.

If you know somebody with esophagal cancer, advise that person not to go with the procedure in which the esophagus is removed. It’s not worth it.

My father was a 49ers fan.

The last play he ever saw was an incomplete Jeff Garcia pass to Terrell Owens against the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2003 season finale.

When I first saw Alexander Payne’s “The Descendants”, I wasn’t quite prepared to see the Queen’s Medical Center intensive care unit. The interiors and exteriors of that film is so amazing, especially the corner of Kaimuki and 15th Avenue.

At my father’s funeral, I made my mother sit in the car until Michael Kuebler sunk the game-winning free throws at Dallas against SMU. My father’s family, at Hosoi, thought we were overcome with grief and couldn’t come out of the car.

This is how much i love Rainbow basketball.

Later that day, during refreshments, my uncle hit on my mother’s friend.

    Guud Evening Tsaikos…bootiful evening.

One thing you don’t need to do is to ask Kent to fight hard. Healing energy to you Kent.

Fantastic ball game just now. Mililani 10 Kapolei 9, pulled it out bottom of 7 after coming back from 5 down. Kapolei played a hell of a game.

Re: Ige acknowledging winning athletic teams.

Our Governor should honor all of the athletic teams, not just the winning ones and he should do so with financial support, not by cutting funding. A “proclimation” does not pay the bills Mr Governor. Our last governor that did this was not reelected.
