Warriors add 6 walk-ons
Ahead of tomorrow’s opening of spring training — the first practice is at 7 a.m. on Tuesday — the Warriors have added six walk-ons.
> Austin Gerard, a 6-1, 190-pound Kamehameha Schools graduate, will compete at safety.
> Jacob Yanak is a former Marine who grew up in Green Bay. He is 6-4 and 235 pounds. He will compete at tight end.
> Jared Tomaszek was a slotback at Saint Louis School. He is 5-8 and 180 pounds.
> Austin Pang-Kee was a defensive back at Damien. His father Tony Pang-Kee is a former UH safety.
> Terrence Sayles returns after a year hiatus. Sayles, a wideout, earned a roster spot after acing a tryout in 2014. Citing Hawaii’s high cost of living, Sayles departed after the 2014 season with the intent of transferring to Texas State. But his financial situation changed, and he moved back to Honolulu last summer. He was not on the UH roster in 2015.
> Ka‘ena Paikai played on the defensive line at Saint Louis School and Saddleback College.
Stephen, thanks for the info above and the answer on Nelson in the previous post. Happy Easter to you and others.
Welcome back ST!! Hope you’re completely healed & doing well! Too bad Nelson is leaving…That is a big loss. But as we learned from MBB, next man up & play for the aina! Happy Easter to the Tsaikos!
Happy Resurrection Day Everybody.
Tsai is alive. PTL 🙂
Every day, our football chances look better and better.
“wanting to be closer to home”
A two way street. We lose some, but we also get some great local boys wanting to come home. No hard feelings, next man up.
Have a great Easter…..
Noticed that there was no mention by ST in summary about the following players:
– Zach Wilson
– Vasquez Haynes
– Malachi Mageo
– Trey Linton
– Jamie Tago
– Andrew Ho
Hmmm…….????
–
I think this will give pause to the Warriors recruiting from great distances. Other than Ne’Quan Phillips and Marrell Jackson, the Warriors have had difficulty retaining players from the Eastern time zone.
Happy Easter!
So nice to have the good tstuff, the Tsai tstuff on a day to day basis.
Mahalo Stephen!
Diocemy St. Juste is still on the roster isn’t he? I look for him to have a great year, barring injury.
Kapakahi:
Mageo was an inadvertent omission. He’s supposed to be a linebacker.
I’ve been told Andrew Ho is no longer on the team.
That’s disappointing news about Nick, as he played extensively last season and I thought he was our best cover corner. He was positioned to become the leader of the secondary this year.
I thought I read somewhere that Jamie Tago is related to Julissa Tago who was signed by the Wahine basketball team to play next season. If so I hope he’s still on campus, if not on the football roster.
Apparently, Tago’s status is not related to football.
He is not enrolled in school this semester.
Just did a quick search and confirmed Jamie and Julissa are cousins.
Not sure if it’s an oversight on Zach Wilson, but he is not listed on the roster I received.
Thanks for the response ST.
Wow. That was fast research.
You’re as quick as a … well, mongoose.
LOL. Google is quick, I’m not. But I admit to being a fast one-finger typist. (And I used to be pretty skinny.)
Guud Afternoon Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!
Sun is up and shining…just another bootiful day in Hawaii nei.
The excitement is building…Spring practice is here! Time to get noticed and show how you’ve improved. Time to grab a spot. It’s Warrior Time!..IMUA!
By the way, practices are open to the public.
Make sure to say, hi, to Bill Stutzmann at the top of the hill.
Andrew Ho should be at practice on Monday.
Interesting. Ho, Haynes, Mageo is on UHs spring roster. Guess we will see. I saw promise in Mageo last season. Hoped to see more this year.
Throw long to Iwaliko.
Just saying.
glad to see Zwahelen on the spring roster – indication that he will stick with UH? hope so – should be a good one depending on how much was lost on the 2 year mission – ST said he threw ball everyday
what about the quickness, strength, mobility?
while happy to see UH progressing — also realize other teams are getting better
voted for the first time in my life for the presidential selection – that was an experience
thanks to all who chose to exercise their constitutional right to vote!
me Buddhist, but Happy Easter to all!!!
Nick Nelson – had a great Freshman year, but thought he lost something last year
good luck to where ever he goes
Hawaii Tourism Authority speak with “forked tounge” — very happy to received all the $$$ that flow into Hawaii for UH sports, but adamant about not giving UH $$$ to cover part of the “travel expense” for visiting teams.
not fully convinced that “upper campus” is the best spoke person for UH athletics as they are not well received – especially at the Legislature — their continued blunders with “contracts” still weighs heavily on the minds of certain individuals who can make a huge difference
Great Afternoon All!
Happy Easter Sunday!
The meek shall rise starting on Monday!
Happy Easter Tsaiko’s,
ST its great to see you back. Its also great to read up on some Warrior football news, it gives me a break from all the TX football here in San Antonio.
Go Warriors!!!
A-House
John McNamara’s replacement is supposed to be a skilled lobbyist who will be helpful in discussions with HTA and the Legislature.
ST,
Thanks for your follow-up responses!
From their respective twitter accounts, it would appear that Haynes & Wilson are with the team. Hopefully that’s the case!
aloha everyone and happy easter !! nice to see ST back mid season form aready !!
ST is Bill Stutzmann also coaching at UH like his brother ?
hitman he means Bill Sr. Billy Ray is still at Emory & Henry.
Kapakahi:
