  2. T103 January 13, 2017 7:10 pm

Question: Do this auntie that Give the leis at the wahine vball games come to the men’s games and pass out leis too?

  3. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 7:15 pm

    UH up 10-6 TO GCU
The Aunties do come and give out leis, but don’t see them tonight.

  4. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 7:17 pm

UH challenging the touch call. it’s 10-7 with the challenge denied.

  5. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 7:22 pm

Van Tilburg with his fourth kill, makes it 15-9 at the TTO. Van Tilburg crushed one that gave a fail to Schwob a few points ago. That will leave a mark.

  6. Don Williams January 13, 2017 7:24 pm

Maybe the facial will make Sportscenter…

  7. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 7:26 pm

Worsley in for Franciskovic, Rado for Van Tilburg. Warriors up 19-11

  8. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 7:32 pm

    Gasman ends it. 25-16. he’s 4-0-5. Warriors hit .400. 17-5-30.

  9. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 7:37 pm

UH up 4-0. TO GCU. Matautia impressively quick.

  10. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 7:48 pm

Service error by the ‘Lopes gives UH the 15-10 lead at the TTO

  11. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 7:53 pm

Ace by Worsley, and service overpass put down by Fey makes it 18-11. TO Lopes

  12. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 8:00 pm

Matautia off the set from Gasman ends it 25-16. Worsley tried to make the set but Gasman was pretty solidly in his way.

  13. kahuna January 13, 2017 8:09 pm

Ive been to every home match so far and quite honestly I don’t think the same auntie’s are here. I believe the ladies giving the team leis are much younger. Don’t know who they are but were definitely not the same one who give leis to the Wahine. I attend both men’s and woman’s vball so I know how the auntie’s look like.

Maybe they the daughter of the auntie’s…. IDK.

  14. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 8:12 pm

The Aunties do come to the men’s games as well. but they aren’t here tonight. i know what they look like too.

  15. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 8:13 pm

Set 3 Worsley, Parapunov, Solbrig and Rosenmeier starting

  16. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 8:27 pm

Gasman with his fifth kill, gives UH the 15-13 lead at the TTO

  17. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 8:36 pm

Grand Canyon challenging that ball hit the antenna off the block, and not a hitting error. currently UH leads 22-10. if not it will be 21-21

  18. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 8:38 pm

Hawaii keeps the point. it’s 22-20 TO GCU

  19. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 8:41 pm

Gasman and Franciskovic stuff Saada. IT’s 23-20. TO GCU

  20. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 8:44 pm

    van tilburg ends it 25-20.

  21. jmy January 13, 2017 8:47 pm

GCU got robbed at 22-20…should have won the challenge & tied it up at 21…

  22. T103 January 13, 2017 9:52 pm

So I happened to be sitting right behind the media table, 2nd row, and I swear I was watching the tv monitor on the table as their reviewed that one call towards the end of set 3, I could have sworn it did hit UH block and then the antenna. I saw Chris M walk over to the down ref and talk to him, not sure what about, but maybe he was saying it was of UH and should have been ‘Lopes point, but thats just my speculation.

  23. Cindy Luis January 13, 2017 10:02 pm

21-22. don’t know Never saw the replay. But if it’s inconclusive they have to go with what the original call was, which was Saada hitting the antenna. Not sure why McLachlin would walk over to the down ref. it’s not his call on the challenge. I’ll have to ask him next time I see him.

  24. rayson January 13, 2017 10:33 pm

Yes I agree GCU got a bad call.

I hope the Aunties return soon. I miss seeing them.

I was pleasantly surprised that Rado played. Except for several serves and practice swings he was held out of much of the pre-match warm-ups.

I can’t wait to see how good the young core foursome of Van Tilburg, Gasman, Matuatia and Parapunov are going to be.

  25. noblesol January 14, 2017 1:15 am

I could see the replay on the announcers monitor, it looked like GCU could have got the call late in that 3rd set. I was a distance away though and it’s a small monitor. The GCU coach may have been upset with the call, but also that the UH coaches walked over to get a look at the announcer’s monitor. From Wade’s initial reaction to the replay it looked like he thought the call might go against him. Also the ref appeared to be speaking with the announcers and possibly others in that corner next to UH bench, and the GCU coach and their bench appeared to me frustrated by the process on that call, as much as the call. In the end though, it was small potatoes, for GCU it was too little too late no matter how that call went. GCU was only in the 3rd set because UH was playing with its lineup, resulting in some unforced errors. UH was the much better team tonight and in that 3rd set as well. They were able to get serious, clean it up, and go on runs pretty much at will. They look ready for a road trip.

If only the NCAA would do something similar for women’s volleyball…

  27. Mytake January 14, 2017 11:22 am

That ref should retire. He can’t see the obvious even on replay. It was embarrassing. Looked like he has trouble focusing on the monitor.

  28. Ron January 14, 2017 2:01 pm

What I took away from the match is that Matautia has improved 100% from his high school days and is as good or better than any freshman since Umlauf .Gasman and and Parapunov are as advertised. Both setters are fun to watch, and both have improved. An as mentioned before and noted by others, Tui has the élan, panache and skills to lead this very deep team very deep.

  29. setaone January 14, 2017 2:39 pm

Not quite sold on Fey at OH. Think he is the third or fourth best option there, especially once Parapunov is back 100%.

  30. T103 January 14, 2017 7:20 pm

Cindy, not saying that Chris actually went onto the floor and talked to the down ref trying to argue his call, the down ref was still near the table & monitor and chris took a few steps towards him, both of them being on their respective sides of the table, and he just was chatting with him about the call no doubt. And I did observe that when there was a replay, Charlie would look to chris & kanoa to see if it was the right call, one instance, there was a touch off UH, got challenged or looked at again on Chris & Kanoa’s tv monitor and Kanoa motioned to Charlie that is was indeed a touch on UH. Anycase, I’m excited to see Parapunov healthy 100%, he hits a super heavy ball.

  31. haleiwacrossfitter January 14, 2017 8:17 pm

I think Rado and Stein need to be on the floor at the same time. I know it depends a lot in how the passing holds up for that to happen, but it has to happen.

I think Fey and Rosey and even Tui are good replacements if Stein/Rado/Matautia have an off night.

Gasman is incredible and Mol has improved greatly from last year. We just don’t have depth in the middle. Solbrig isn’t cutting it right now. I can’t believe he beat out nainoa frank for that spot.

Tui is tui….so lucky to have him back there.

Then Jennings and Joe. We got two incredible setters and I am leaning toward Jennings right now just because of his blocking and athleticism. He’s amazing at the net. But joe is so much fun to watch, really mixes it up.

    So…here is my lineup.

    Von Tilburg/Matautia
    Rado on opp
    Gasman/Mol
    Jennings
    Tuileta

  32. haleiwacrossfitter January 14, 2017 8:24 pm

But…Fey, Rosey, Tui and even Rattray could give us a boost when one is off.

Mamane and Evan are solid liberos, too. Can’t wait for Gage to get here. We are winning it all either this year or next…or both. Too much talent, too many lineups.

  33. turfwar January 14, 2017 11:59 pm

Blessman Taala is a beast. Check him out on OC12. Hawaii will score if he signs on the dotted line on signing day.

  34. turfwar January 14, 2017 11:59 pm

    Ha s0rry wwrong blog.

  35. Eric96822 January 15, 2017 1:12 pm

#26 … I agree with Matautia’s progress. I would say that he is probably much better now because of being a tad bit older. More importantly, always being around a high level of competition would either make him elevate his game or wither and become a cheerleader on the bench. He has definitely risen to the challenge literally and figuratively. Such a great leaper. Hawai`i, this year, has such a high level of competition on both their A and B squads that practices must be insane. I cannot recall such talent on both sides. This is the most exciting team ever as far as collection of talent and height I can ever remember and I have been around for a while.. even attended games in Klum, like chanting “Scherman, you suck” when we beat UCLA during the Carlos Briceno, Adam Lockwood, Brian Poppinga, Lacro, Van Sickle, days… but not as far back as the Pono Ma`a days I am afraid, not that old.

  36. Eric96822 January 15, 2017 9:03 pm

Guess Hawai`i will probably be ranked #4 tomorrow behind Ohio State, UCLA and BYU. I think Pepperdine will be #5 and Long Beach will be #6. Rounding out the Top 10 will be Irvine, Loyola-Chicago, Lewis then Stanford. It’s nice to see Hawai`i moving up but it is only due to teams above them losing. This week will truly see where they are at when they take on the Beach and Irvine.

  37. Eric96822 January 15, 2017 9:24 pm

My bad… I think Lewis will be ahead of Loyola but below Irvine.

new thread up for Monday. will update when poll comes out.

    30. haven’t seen what you describe in terms of Wade looking at the broadcasters as to whether to call a challenge. what I have seen are the Warriors motioning with a C to have the coach use it.

As for the ref having trouble with the monitor. was told that on the last call, the replay monitor went blank and they had to go over to TV’s to see the replay.
What wasn’t announced in the arena was that the video was ‘inconclusive’ and that is the reason the original ruling stood, that being that GCU hit the antenna.
don’t shoot the messenger, I couldn’t tell from my angle. just passing along what i’ve been told about the ruling.
