Brown, Tavai will represent Warriors
Quarterback Dru Brown and middle linebacker Jahlani Tavai will represent the Warriors at the Mountain West Conference Media Days in July.
The event, which will be held in Las Vegas, is the league’s biggest publicity blitz of the year.
In his second year, Nick Rolovich has the third-most coaching experience in the West Division, behind San Diego State’s Rocky Long and UNLV’s Tony Sanchez. There are new head coaches at Nevada, San Jose State and Fresno State.
The event is divided into two days. The West Division coaches and players will participate in interviews on July 25; the Mountain reps go on July 26.

It looks great. I think some of the Tsaiko’s (including me) would be happy to donate funds to the Mural. Maybe we could have a section donated by the Tsaikos.
This brings up a lot of memories of outstanding pictures and moments of UH Football over the years (40 years for me).
A couple memorable pictures come immediately to mind:Jeff Sydner doing the Heisman pose after defeating BYU and Ty Detmer the same day that he won the Heisman Trophy.
Semeri Ulufale busting the opponents wedge on kickoffs.

I think a picture of Colt when he scored that running touchdown vs San Jose State in 2007 or that first TD vs Washington that same year. He was pretty intense
How about a picture of Niko Noga’s field goal block against West Virginia on national TV. Preserving UH victory over West Virginia.
I remember the stadium going nuts after the block. If West Virginia made the field goal they win. I don’t think there was much time left on the game clock.

Mike Akiu, if I am not mistaken, lead the nation in blocked punts, I think 4 or 5 for the season….a snap of him laying out would be fantastic.

How about Jeff Snyder heisman pose in the endzone? Or a picture of one of the best RBs for UH in Travis Sims? Speaking of Travis Sims he should’ve been a record holder for one of the longest runs in the history of UH football if it wasn’t for a holding pentalty or a clip. All I know is there was no hold or clip IMO. Think it was against Utep. Or even Micheal Carter?

This is what legends are made of.
Non-football related: Cal Baptist drops their MVB program. That leaves 7 MPSF teams for next season (5 DI & 2 DII). With fewer teams in the conference, I would think they might have a better chance of making the conference playoffs (if they’re going to have one) and beating, at least, the other 2 D2 teams on a regular basis.
Need a pikcha of Mighty Mouse somewhere in da mural and one of da coach as a player. 😀

How about a picture of Cory Paredes knocking the ball out of Colin Kaepernick’s hands before he could score a touchdown.
Dan Kellys FG to beat Fresno State in 2008. It wasn’t a difficult FG, but it was UHs first win on the road against a ranked team.
The best FG moment I agree had to be the 2 40+ yard FGs that Kelly hit to beat Nevada in 2007. I remember hearing the entire street erupting after that.
Mark Odom slapping the turf or crossing his arms in a X after a sack.
1973: Dave Holmes UH Rainbows continuously stuffed UW’s Pete Tagares up the middle throughout the game in Husky Stadium against the likes of Levi Stanley (11 tackles), Paul Lee, Jeris White, Hal Stringert, and others. How can? Can! The UH players started mimicking the PA Announcer with “Tagares up the middle.” UH’s 10-7 win is considered the worst upset in UW Football lore and biggest win for UH to many fans to this day. UH was transitioning from D-II to D-I at the time in history.
The game was broadcasted back to Hawaii, live in black & white, if memory serves me correctly. Gee, gotta be old to remember this game.

Every time Renfred Frias touched the ball. My all-time favorite walk-on. I remember Jim Leahey describing him as a “victory cigar”.

#20 OSD-I was interviewed by Dick Couch sports reporter early in the week prior to that game-Some Washington players referred to having to play the “Hula Hippies”. My response was then I guess our opponents were the “Fighting Muskies”. I still have the articles stats etc from that game-Tui Ala rushed for close to 100 yards and Henry Noa made a key catch to convert on third down keeping a drive alive-yep long time ago. Should have been undefeated that year-Opened with Washington victory-closed with a victory over Utah with a back up QB
#21 Ipu Man– was looking at those pics, there is one with Shep Killan and Ron Hall, our TEs from that era—and what is most sad, they are both already passed at a young age. I was talking to Brian Derby about this fairly recently, and inordinate amount of folks from our era have already passed, like over a dozen….holumua to the other side to those brothers not here.
Maddog: Thanks for your post about the 73 UW game. There were 52,000 stunned Husky fans in the stands. Tui Ala was like a trying to tackle a fire hydrant at 5.6 200 lbs. I believe that the UW HC Jim Owens was let go after that season, making way for Don James. Interesting fact that UH had 2 future NFL DBs in Jerris White and Hal Stringert. Forgot about the Utah victory, which was a Ute squad that beat Frank Kush’s ASU team that year in the old WAC.
Boo #26…did not know that.
