Servings of iron and fiber

It was the big guys’ day, and they spent the morning pumping iron and then pulling, twisting and spinning heavy fiber-rope.

I’d love to try the ropes once my shoulder heals. Go Warriors!!!!

  2. Warrior Dave April 13, 2017 10:57 am

Took a second look st the pics. I can hear my old bones cracking Unser the stress. Think I’ll leave it to the younger guys and girls.

  3. Stephen Tsai April 13, 2017 11:00 am

OK, I reformatted the photos so that they’re larger.

For one drill, there are players at each end of the rope. If you drop the rope, the penalty is 50 pushups.

  5. Ipu Man April 13, 2017 11:35 am

This reminds me of the rope/log matsuri in Nagano Japan
where every six months they ride six giant logs down a
mountain slope using thick rope to help control it.
Some die as a result. But it is all about “No Fear”…

Great pics. Fred is really big. If he starts at center, there would be a huge logjam at guard with Asotui Eli, John Wa’s, Elijah Tupai and JR Hensley all capable of starting. This is probably the best the O-line in quite a while with the depth that they have.

  7. Maddog50 April 13, 2017 11:58 am

Maybe logjam but Big John Waa ain’t given no quarter!

    Great Afternoon All!

    Ropes, no dopes.

    Das it.

  9. Stephen Tsai April 13, 2017 12:58 pm

It’s good to see Elijah Tupai back in the mix. He’s had terrible luck with health.

  10. SteveM April 13, 2017 1:19 pm

Hmmm… I thought today’s blog entry would be titled “Learning the Ropes”

tom — I forgot about “tree hugger” as one of DPK’s personae. Still 3 more at least…
    Happy belated Birthday, DPK!

The rope thing is a lot harder than it appears.
I also was surprised there were so many linemen. They should have decent depth this coming season.

I think one pseudonym was Piranha. Lazily swimming in the cool dark water, the hungry piranha eagerly waited for its next victim at the next CC.

Piranha was spelled in different ways, too.

    Go Warriors!

  14. 3-Prong April 13, 2017 5:20 pm

Don’t sleep on the Hauanio boy. He was a “road grader” in high school. Great to see Ulu Perry back in the mix too.

    Go Bows!

  15. 3-Prong April 13, 2017 5:22 pm

Oh and no porget Saturday at the Stanley is a “White Out”. VBall and BBall. Come early for parking!!!

It would be a big boost to Hawaii’s RPI if NC State gets their act together and wins their three game series against No. 5 North Carolina.

Yesterday’s win boosted Hawaii from 141 to 126.

    No errors.

That’s why they won, especially if your starting pitcher scatters 11 hits.

Remarkably, Brendan Hornung is able to sport a low ERA despite giving up more than a hit per inning.

Hard to tell if he’s a prospect or an excellent college pitcher.

“LIVE ALOHA, STREAM WARRIORS!” Rally before Saturday’s Men’s Volleyball game. Please bring your signs and voices starting 6pm (hour before 7pm game) to Stan Sheriff Arena on Saturday, April 15th. We must do all we can to ensure Live Streaming of UH sports to places outside Hawaii. As of now, for the 2017 season, Oceanic Cable/Charter is not going to Live Stream UH football to the Mainland/International where the majority of our student athletes are from. Please support and if you have time, read the passionate comments of UH fans and player families worldwide why this is important. Recruiting, national exposure, alumni connections, and more! Mahalo.

Fred Ulu-Perry is built like his line coach, Chris Naeole, beeg and tick. He stands-out as to his teammates on the 0-line. And while everything is always up for competition, a guy that started as true freshmen in the PAC12, if he is in good standing and healthy, well, just pencil the bruddha into the starting lineup.

  19. Petey808 April 14, 2017 9:34 am

Great to see the Warriors working! I’m excited for the upcoming season. Thanks ST for the pics.

  20. A-House April 14, 2017 9:55 am

I remember a time quite long ago where a blogger mentioned using the ropes for upper body strength and a respected, long-time blogger “chided” the blogger for his/her recommendation

how training times have changed at UH Manoa
