Warriors back in action

On Election Day, the Warriors elected to have one of their most intense practices of the season, a 2-hour session in which they emphasized tackling, ball security, smart decisions … everything.

Dru Brown was re-established as the No. 1 quarterback. Brown was replaced for three series in the third quarter of the Warriors’ 55-0 loss to San Diego State the past Saturday. Ikaika Woolsey is No. 2 for Saturday’s game against Boise State. Aaron Zwahlen, who received significant reps today, is No. 3

Head coach Nick Rolovich is hopeful that some players who had missed the SDSU game will be available to play Boise.

Ricky Shimokawa, a former UH defensive back and Kaiser High athletic director, attended today’s practice. Shimokawa had undergone a procedure similar to the one Jesse Sapolu went through to correct a leaky aortic valve. Shimokawa is healthy and fit.

I would be very curious to see how Aaron Zwahlen do in a game.

Is Russell Wilson in the mix?

Everything really went wrong in the SDSU game. The game plan didn’t seem to allow for adjustments. And the players were unable to execute effectively. So many mistakes. I don’t know if intense workouts will make any difference. I am more inclined to think group and team meetings to review assignments, game film, etc. may produce improved mental preparation for the upcoming game against Boise St.

BTW, Aaron Zwahlen played three series in the SDSU game. Being 4 years removed from his last game, he showed the rust.

    2. Curious?? Did you not watch him in a game vs SDSU? Doesn’t matter what defense he faced, he was throwing balls at people’s feet. Couldn’t tell if his accuracy was awful or just no arm strength. Really bad

Zwahlen will be fine-that was a tough spot to be tossed live with so much time on the shelf. Liked his wheels and poise just jittery. As far as physical practice/the book stuff is done talking is done a little live tough love gets ones head right! BTW if you’ve been around the game this kind of practice is typical on any level and usually brings things back to where they need to be. GoWarriors!!!!

    akamai:

from yesterday post – did not Kemp discuss his situation BEFORE the play was called in the huddle?

“audible” at the LOS, to what I understand, is the QB looks at the defense, realizes the play called will not work or sees the defense mis-aligned, and calls another play and executes

for example, a “dive”play is called — QB sees the defense stacking the middle and open space to the outside – calls a fake to the RB or pulls the ball and pass to the TE doing a 5 – 7 yard curl or “Z” route to the outside

one thing for sure — current UH LBers have great difficulty tracking who has the ball when the QB is “quick of hands” — OL/DL too tall to see over or LB mis-aligned directly behind the center/guards to see QB — whomever is in the upstairs “box” should be able to see this and communicate with the DC or move the DC to the upstairs “box”

I equate this with an infantry platoon where the platoon sergeants are like the position coaches and the platoon leader is the OC/DC seeing the action and directing the position coaches in the attack or defense.

    A-house,

    1) He checked the play from the LOS based on the defensive pre-snap alignment.

    2) The problem that happened on Saturday was not that they couldn’t see the ball (they believed that they were seeing the ball)…the problem was blown alignment and assignment.
In your parlance, they misread the SitRep and allowed themselves to get outflanked!

I think coach Rolo should partner with students in the math department. He should give them all game film of Boise and they can build propensity models that look at the likelihood teams will run certain plays when they have certain personnel groups or line up in specific formations. All teams have tendencies and this will be a good way to quickly identify them to give us an edge.

I saw some holding that wasn’t called. Hard to get to where you want to be when huge olineman has a grip on your jersey. Plus d players still having problems shedding blocks.

    Jeezy33 #5 …

You don’t think it was nerves or something head related? He was way off with his accuracy, and as you said was throwing at people’s feet. But I thought he was trying to throw too hard. He had lots of zip on his passes, so looks like arm strength should be okay.

The main thing is that the Warriors continue to work hard. Everything hinges on that. In my opinion, they look like they’re going through growing pains, Coaches included. They’ve exceeded expectations, but I’m sure we all know that they will be even better as time goes by.

Patience and persistence are as important as ever – that and hard work!

I’ve watched practices and scrimmages where AZ looked very impressive. Coming in against SDSU late in a blowout isn’t an accurate picture of his potential.

I am not second guessing DB as QB. I have faith in him, the coaches and the other Warriors. What will be will be.

Yes I know but it’s a whole different ball game starting from behind as they did. I want to see what he can do from the first snap. Not from when they are behind. That game was over before he even came in. It’s like you throwing him into the dogs already.

  16. Buffoman November 8, 2016 6:29 pm

#15 to add to your comments, if the offense already could not adjust to the SD defense, the starter already having 2 picks and the running game stuffed, I’d say being a bit nervous and throwing badly as he did may be a “normal” reaction for a first time entry to a game.

I don’t believe that what we saw was an accurate picture of what AZ May be able to do with proper preparation. I don’t know if we’ll have a chance to see that played out.

    Confidence in God’s eternal love.
God’s love is unchanging in the midst of changing situations.
    This gives us security.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people.
    He is completely trustworthy
    He is precious to believers
People who refuse to believe in Christ have made the greatest mistake of their lives. They have stumbled over the one person who could save them and give meaning to their lives, and they have fallen into God’s hand for judgement.

The government will rest on his shoulders.
    And he will be called:
    Wonderful Counselor,* Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
