Game day: Fresno State

The Warriors hit the home stretch with their final three games at Aloha Stadium beginning with today’s meeting against Fresno State.

Not much is on the line except pride in this meeting between two-victory rivals. But this should be a chance to see OC Don Bailey’s unleashed offense. Perhaps there will be another shot for Keelan Ewaliko, who aligned as the wildcat in a play that was aborted because of a procedural penalty. Or maybe an expanded role for defensive end David Manoa, who has shown promise in practices the past couple weeks.

Even before the coaching change, UH challenged student organizations to find ways to increase attendance for this game. We’ll see if the campaign had an effect.

First! It’s game day! Feeling renewed excitement today. Feels like the season opener all over again!

  2. Old School Dave November 14, 2015 9:37 am

David and Meffy are two DEs with potential, along with the frames to get bigger with more work in the weight room.

  3. Fat Jeff November 14, 2015 9:41 am

OK fans, get up off the couch and get down to Aloha Stadium. If for no other reason, but to show our student athletes that we support them, and appreciate their effort.

  4. Maddog50 November 14, 2015 10:04 am

Fat Jeff we Re now best buddies!!! I’ll be here Illinois with Curran on one device at 9:30 cst and my laptop for mwc connection at 10 !!!! Go Warriors.

Let’s play Beau Reilly and others; and see what they can do!

Well, it looks like Hawaii may be forever doomed to repeat the Wonder Blunder and Gib contract.

In a composite measurement of intelligence, Hawaii ranked 50th: “The bottom five states were Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Nevada and, in the 50th spot, Hawaii.”

The measurement takes the following into account:
IQ, as estimated by Virginia Commonwealth’s Michael McDaniel in 2006
2015 SAT scores, compiled by The Washington Post
2015 ACT scores, via the company that administers the tests
The percentage of college graduates in the state, compiled by the Census Bureau

    men’s BB 2nd:

much excitement watching the first half – speed, ball control, hitting the 3s, all those dunks, shots falling from all over, and putting in the free throws – 21 point lead at the half

2nd half Montana St got and stayed hot the entire time seemingly the reverse of the first half – UH seemed too relaxed with the ease of getting the 21 point lead only to see Montana flying all over, making all the shots especially the free throws

told Mrs A-House we should do to the SSC and watch them in person – gotta use the coupons that came with the football season tickets – buy and get one free – I’m cheap!!!!!!!

  10. A-House November 14, 2015 10:29 am

    tom #4:

must agree with you on dat!!

3 more games to get the other ready for next year – yea, gotta try and salvage 2015, but also gotta see what the 2nd and 3rd string players can do in battle NOW at all positions – those who have started had their glory in the past 10 games to show their stuff!

com ‘on coaching staff – see the forest over the trees and let them go – reality is you won’t be around for 2016 – do your predecessors a favor and see what they will inherit for 2016 and beyond

  11. A-House November 14, 2015 10:49 am

    Balko # 7:

yes, the results were to show the “academic” side for all students and predictable results

but, IMHO, it’s what the graduate does AFTER leaving academia that is the most important and being a responsible, contributing citizen for USA.

not saying the other “states” don’t contribute, but a put down is still a put down

  12. bowwar November 14, 2015 11:14 am

I’ll be at the stadium today with my season tickets and cheering the Warriors on…I just hope the Warriors finish strong and provide the foundation for next year.

  13. Makai November 14, 2015 11:19 am

Nice to see the Run n Shoot again last night at Aloha Stadium. Imagine June Jones or Dino Babers coaching with a QB of Tua’s ability. A real dual threat QB.

  14. Frannyk November 14, 2015 11:26 am

St. Louis looked great last night. Tua is the real deal! The receivers caught and held on to the ball! The ‘Run and Shoot’ looked on point! I missed watching it. Bring on JJ!

Robert Kekaula is a terrible announcer. The play by play guy announcing last nights game is WAY BETTER. Since we’re getting a new coach, can we please get a new announcer too? Kanoa or Howard or bring Jim back?

    ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN KEKAULA!!!!

  15. oneseason November 14, 2015 11:33 am

Watching UW-ASU … commentator said UW’s defense is built to defend against spread offenses that are so popular in college football today, and the PAC 12 in particular. Pretty funny … when UH ran it under JJ, it was a gimmicky offense … now it is popular in the PAC 12.

  16. FearGod November 14, 2015 11:48 am

coaching staff won’t be around for 2016 – do your predecessors a favor and let the next regime see what they will inherit for 2016 and beyond.
Coach should ask all potential redshirts and backups this question in the locker room prior to kick off. If you wanna play tonight raise your hands. You wanna win. To all that raised their hands you better play fast, hard and for each one on this team, you hear me. Now go out on that field and make touchdowns and take that ball away from them. 1..2…3.. lets go

  17. Da Punchbowl Kid November 14, 2015 11:52 am

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  18. Willie November 14, 2015 12:00 pm

“gave full play-calling autonomy to the offensive and defensive coordinators” This was in print this morning about one Coach Naole’s changes. Makes you wonder about postings by someone defending Chow that the OC actually had full reign; quite a divergent opinion to many of us posters that the offense was typical archaic/pedestrian/stubborn Chowish. If this was said don’t you think there was something to “our” observations? Hopefully we will finally see something that was promised before the season began offensively as to uptempo and current era type offense.

  19. Willie November 14, 2015 12:04 pm

Got to watch a lot of the Colorado – USC game. The Buffs look much improved from the season opener with the Warriors. Many of the MWC teams also have the same improvement look as the season progressed. Maybe another reason for the coaching change is that while Warrior opponents have made strides, the Warriors have been either stagnant or regressed as the season went on. Looking forward to a hopeful resurgence going forward the rest of this season and beyond.

  20. FearGod November 14, 2015 12:07 pm

sorry! but one only had to laugh at…..unleashed offense
shown promise in practice….come game time shows nothing
lets play all able and willing players..score touchdowns and take that ball away from them.

  21. z November 14, 2015 12:08 pm

Was really impressed with St Louis quarterback last night but Mililani’s defense hasn’t been that good this year. Figured Mililani would have had to outscore St Louis but Milton did not appear to be game ready. Don’t know how much of his shoulder injury affected his throwing I have never seen him that off. I think that Kahuku has the best secondary in the state and one the best if not the best defenses too. They will make it difficult for St Louis’s offense. This is the match I have been waiting to see.

  22. oneseason November 14, 2015 12:15 pm

17 … Hope … Change … Marketing … but I have no doubt the UH coaches and players are doing their best. Let’s go Bows!

  23. FearGod November 14, 2015 12:16 pm

Kahuku’s D backs will be exposed….then all this D1 talent talk will be forgotten
timing is critical and the ball will hit the reciever’s either out of their break or on stride. Blow out State Championship

  24. z November 14, 2015 12:29 pm

    Go Warriors.
Time to erase the long skid mark with puppy wipes.
You can! You can do it!

  25. H-Man November 14, 2015 1:27 pm

On Don Bailey’s offense, from just watching the previous games, you knew that it was Chow’s offense. But at this late stage in the season, Naeole said that there are not a whole lot you can change with the game schemes. However, as Naeole has demonstrated, changes in players or player assignments are open. Besides elevating Ikaika Woolsey to starting QB, I really want to see Kennedy Tulimasealii play DE the entire game. Move him around, just as Ohio State moves Joey Bosa around, but never as a NT.

On the student organizations’ effort to increase student attendance, its nice to know that they’re making an effort. Football season is a big part of student life “at mainland colleges and universities.” But if the UH students don’t care, then it really doesn’t matter. It’s their college experience, no one else’s.

  26. Dano November 14, 2015 1:46 pm

    14. i totally agree with on BK. Kanoa would be an ideal replacement. The play by play announcer last night for OC16 was Felipe Ohastro and does a superb job as well and would be a good replacement for BK. it seemed coach chow did not like answering to Felipe (sideline reporter) during the post game radio interviews on KKEA, ESPN 1420. time now to leave for the ‘inner circle” at aloha stadium….

  27. Rodney November 14, 2015 1:57 pm

    Crazy talk about Bailey/Chow offense
Last yr Warriors ranked in top 5 in
plays ran in game. This is Chow offense
that Bailey is play calling. The difference
is Bailey needs to take a few more chances
    in his play calling.Go contrarian!!!!
Go warriors! 28-21 Naole first Win!!!

  28. Frannyk November 14, 2015 2:21 pm

Kahuku was “lucky” that the Mililani QB was hurt when they played. Kahuku hasn’t played an offense as diversified and as physical as St. Louis.

It’ll be tough, but the Saints will prevail!

I would turn the sound off for tonight’s game, if not for Miano’s insightful commentary. I JUST CANT STAND KEKAULA’S WAY OF CALLING A GAME!!!!! UGH!!!!

  29. lawaia November 14, 2015 2:48 pm

Wishing you all the best Ikaika. Imua Na Koa Anuenue.

  30. Rodney November 14, 2015 3:25 pm

Anyone got to see the run n shoot
    last night.After seeing that game
and seeing those slotbacks and Wr tear it up
    and that QB play.I absolutely
want June back and have him take the
    entire offensive staff(OL,RB,WR,SB)
    Now that was entertainment!!!!!!!!!
Best wishes to Millilani and best recovery
to their nifty Qb.What a game!!!

  31. el burro sabio November 14, 2015 3:33 pm

One thing that is happening now is that Bailey and Mason are making the game plans on their instead of crafting a game plan and calling plays that Chow approved prior to the game. That’s total autonomy.

  32. seewhy November 14, 2015 4:19 pm

    #FreeEwaliko

  33. slaya November 14, 2015 5:12 pm

Hey Tsai, sometimes your columns are lame. You refuse to say anything negative about the program, but hey your job as a journalist is to report things how they are regardless of the good or bad. So now you say, this game is a chance to see Bailey’s offense unleashed. What makes you say that, when the fans have waited 10 GAMES to see his offense “unleashed”.

  34. hitmanhart November 14, 2015 5:43 pm

aloha everyone !! time to win one !! time 4 the Beau Reilly show !!

  35. Frannyk November 14, 2015 5:47 pm

I agree Rodney. Bring on JJ and the Run n Shoot! Maybe if JJ is our coach and he’s worked with Tua, it would give us the inside track at landing him to come to UH! FINGER’S CROSSED!

  36. hitmanhart November 14, 2015 5:53 pm

Rodney how good seats tonight ? must be in the front row!! lol enjoy the game !! and JJ is da right answer !! time 4 the Beau Reilly show !! go bows !!

  37. seewhy November 14, 2015 6:05 pm

    Black unis!!

  38. seewhy November 14, 2015 6:23 pm

    Drops…

  39. touchthestick? November 14, 2015 6:23 pm

Yes, ST, you slay me with every article and post you put out there.

Like this one from Wednesday’s paper I just pulled from the stack:
“University of Hawaii football player Dylan Collie can count on one hand
the number of times he could not count on his hands.”

That’s the headspinning gumshoe equivalent of Marcus Mariota rolling right and throwing all the way to the left for the game winning td last week: nifty, spiffy, and powerful.

For readers with a discerning eye–like the UH football coach who banned you and the UH basketball coach who slapped you in the head–your stuff is loaded with telling commentary about the rest of the story.

The answer to the question, What makes you say in UH game eleven/Naeole game 2 that we’ll finally see Bailey unleashed, is in the question itself.

Looking forward to your report on how it unfolded.

  40. Rodney November 14, 2015 6:24 pm

    Bobby Curran stick to basketball
    So bad.Leaves listener to figure
what’s going on. Just describe please!!!

  41. z November 14, 2015 6:44 pm

Man we just lost 2 of our starting dbs.

  42. MAKA November 14, 2015 6:45 pm

Put in Riley for god sakes !

  43. z November 14, 2015 6:45 pm

The announcers still can’t get the players names right.

  44. z November 14, 2015 6:48 pm

Fresno using the personal foul offense.

  45. MAKA November 14, 2015 6:50 pm

50 yds in penalties, first qtr. Passing 3 or 10. Can’t blame Chow now.

  46. z November 14, 2015 6:51 pm

Now our best olineman went down.

  47. z November 14, 2015 6:56 pm

Thats it. Run Woolsey. The play is there.

  48. z November 14, 2015 7:15 pm

Flag happy official just killed the game.

  49. z November 14, 2015 7:25 pm

    Referees no like Hawaii.

  50. Buffoman November 14, 2015 7:35 pm

Hard to watch. I agree, the referees are killing the game.

  51. uhfan November 14, 2015 7:37 pm

49 – yeah – right. if wasn’t for the refs, uh would be destroying a two win fresno team. still no discipline by our guys.

  52. uhfan November 14, 2015 7:42 pm

plus our qb is completing less than 33 percent of his passes. woolsey should just run.

  53. azwarrior22 November 14, 2015 7:44 pm

Our QB play stinks !! Put someone else in for the second half or we will lose again for sure.

  54. z November 14, 2015 7:48 pm

    Wow. Collie dropping everything.

  55. MAKA November 14, 2015 7:50 pm

We win yet ? ha ha ha

  56. z November 14, 2015 7:50 pm

Need to put in players who want it. Looks like some players have given up.

  57. z November 14, 2015 7:51 pm

Our defensive tackle has to chase down receiver to make tackle. Sad.

  58. z November 14, 2015 7:52 pm

New coach needs to look at this game film.

  59. z November 14, 2015 7:53 pm

    Pereese.

  60. uhfan November 14, 2015 7:54 pm

agree – does look some of out guys have given up.

  61. MAKA November 14, 2015 7:57 pm

The question is now, will they reach 50 or not ?

  62. Hank November 14, 2015 8:08 pm

I cannot remember a more badly coached UH team. The new coach has his work cut out for him.

  63. Warrior Fan November 14, 2015 8:08 pm

That was a terrible first half. Maybe we should try out Reilly… Officials were horrible in the first half

  64. 808 November 14, 2015 8:09 pm

The St Louis Crusaders football team is more exciting and entertaining than this 2015 UH football team.

To think they were favorites going into this game. Even listening the game on radio is hard to do. There are so penalties. At some point, you can only blame the ref’s so much. The offense isn’t helping the team either.

At least next week’s Kahuku High school and St Louis Crusader game will feature a grest mstch up. I’m looking forward to seeing that game.

  65. 808 November 14, 2015 8:10 pm

    …great…

  66. z November 14, 2015 8:17 pm

    Go get em Wittek!

  67. azwarrior22 November 14, 2015 8:17 pm

Sure heck of a lot of orange seats 🙁

  68. Inyoface November 14, 2015 8:20 pm

There should be an investigation on all calls against Hawaii this year that were questionable or picked up flags compared to the rest of the conference.

  69. z November 14, 2015 8:24 pm

    Our quarterbacks no can see.

  70. 808 November 14, 2015 8:28 pm

Again, another terrible game by UH. I say play everyone that is suited up for tonight’s game.

This year, Fresno st is an awful team. But, with this game UH just snatched that title away from all the other bottom feeder teams in the MWC. UH holds that title outright in the MWC.

They are so conditioned to the feeling of losing games that I don’t think they believe they can win.

  71. Warrior Fan November 14, 2015 8:38 pm

    N. Phillips gives up another TD SMH.. Wittek with a INT on his 1st Pass Attempt.. No creativity on Offense what so ever.. Obviously Chow was letting Bailey run the offense..

  72. z November 14, 2015 8:44 pm

This got to be the worse ever.

  73. MAKA November 14, 2015 8:49 pm

    Change number, an same, interception.

  74. Warrior Fan November 14, 2015 8:50 pm

We must have the worst 3td down defense in college football SMH

  75. MAKA November 14, 2015 8:51 pm

At least next year, we can’t go any lower then last.

  76. rundown808 November 14, 2015 8:52 pm

Just saying…. Why are we surprised with the players that were recruited by Chow and not producing. Collie drops balls because he has no hands and is too small with no speed. Why was he recruited? Is it safe to say just another Chow blunder. On the positive note, the new head coach coming in has to have the head coaching experience
To clean up the deficit. We got a lot of sub par players not performing. The who you know game should be gone. Wasted scholarship money. You should be recruited based on performance, production, and potential.
Our fans, school, and programs, deserves the best that a head coach can offer. One that is willing to go beyond the limits to make it work. And will not ignore legit talent when it comes knocking. Period.

  77. oneseason November 14, 2015 8:54 pm

The Fresno St QB’s acting after the “late hit” that was neither late nor a hit reminds me of the cheating field goal kicker that Pat Hill coached in the 2008 game at Fresno … Worst call ever … At the time anyway … The kicker fell down untouched and the ref threw a flag. UH won that game. Reminds me why I wouldn’t want Pat Hill at UH.

  78. 808 November 14, 2015 8:55 pm

There’s still two more games. The next two games could be worse.

The next HC is going to have his hands full with this team.

  79. Warrior Fan November 14, 2015 9:00 pm

Really Wittek. Well let’s see what Reilly can do

  80. Leahi2 November 14, 2015 9:03 pm

Can’t we find a better “Voice of the Rainbow Warrior” than Bobby Curran?

  81. MAKA November 14, 2015 9:05 pm

Better go L & L get something to eat, is more entertaining.

  82. z November 14, 2015 9:12 pm

Are these the same officials from the commercial?

  83. 808 November 14, 2015 9:15 pm

At the start of the season, some of the radio personalities including BC said this was probably Chow’s best team in terms of talent. Yes, maybe that evaluation was premature. This season showed the WR couldn’t catch th

  84. z November 14, 2015 9:16 pm

    Again db toasted.

  85. 808 November 14, 2015 9:21 pm

    Continued-

…the WR’s couldn’t catch the ball and they lacked discipline on both sides of the ball. The penalties and dropped passes hurt UH.

Bailey is calling the plays and they are still terrible. For the next HC, I hope he brings in assistant coaches who can teach and can get the most of the players.

  86. A-House November 14, 2015 9:29 pm

3 things are very apparent in tonight’s game:

#1: we left at half time – officials and special players just gave up by not attempting to block the PAT after the 4th TD.

#2: MWC officials who are assigned to UH games are from the bottom of the official barrel! Curran and Miano says the layers should adjust their playing to how the officials are calling the game – roughing the passer how many times?

#3: apparently Bailey and Mason offensive and defensive calls leave a lot to be desired!!!!!!! – either the coaches are lousy and/or many players are just not executing or both

#1 for UH leaves a lot to be desired – last year he gave up 8 of the 10 long passes for TDs and his showboating by spreading both arms wide after deflecting a pass should have been called for “taunting” and then he gets turned around for TD #5 — is this the best UH has to offer? what do the coaching staff sees that I for one cannot see???

I say Woosley and Witek had their chances to show what they have and time to see a new face for the last 2 games – current decision is to skip the last 2 games – not worth my time and effort for this team – coaches and players – JMHO — you have yours!

  87. cappie the dog November 14, 2015 9:42 pm

I don’t have a BA in journalism, but I think it’s the columnist’s job(i.e. Ferd Lewis, Dave Reardon) to comment on how dismal Hawaii’s football program is.

It’s not ST’s job to editorialize the news.

  88. cappie the dog November 14, 2015 9:47 pm

    We can be Lobos.

Run, run, run, then throw it deep when the defense is least expecting it.

  89. Inyoface November 14, 2015 9:49 pm

    Can’t watch anymore, goodnight.

  90. z November 14, 2015 9:58 pm

Too bad no mo bye week.

  91. z November 14, 2015 9:59 pm

Too much broken to fix. Hope new coach can recruit.

  92. Buffoman November 14, 2015 10:01 pm

The team just looks and plays like a worn out group. I expected much more but given the schedule with so many tough road games and no byes this team looks gassed.

At this point let’s hope folks don’t get hurt.

  93. 808 November 14, 2015 10:24 pm

Von Appen’s 18 game losing streak is still games away. Von Appen use to complain about not having charter flights for his team as other teams do.

With this team, it feels like it is in the middle of a losing streak of that magnitude.

I hope they can win one of the last two games to break this string of losing.

  94. z November 14, 2015 10:31 pm

I am beginning to think that it will take the new coach more than a few years to fix this team. I don’t know if I can wait that long.

  95. z November 14, 2015 10:34 pm

    93. They did that last season had nice start this season then collapsed.

  96. kev-1 November 14, 2015 10:35 pm

Seriously, how bad is Reilly that he can’t get a shot? Wth?!?!

  97. kev-1 November 14, 2015 10:40 pm

For those of you who think that the players don’t quit, watch the replay for some proof. After yet another one of his drops, DC left the field right after the drop, took off his helmet, put it down, and just walked off without any interaction with the coaches. It was in the middle of a series.

I know he is dealing with confidence issues right now, but that was not good to see.

  98. z November 14, 2015 10:43 pm

    97. They put him back in and he dropped a punt. Looks like he is the backup punt returner.

  99. z November 14, 2015 10:45 pm

Kekaula starting to sound like papa Leahy. He blames not being able to see numbers on the black uniforms.

  100. 808 November 14, 2015 10:49 pm

Yep, every year for the last four years the team had losing streaks. I guess the most current losing streak feels like the worst.

  101. hitmanhart November 14, 2015 11:13 pm

trying to win is ok !! but this was to much why no Beau Reilly ?

  102. H-Man November 14, 2015 11:16 pm

The Warriors played a good first quarter until the officials took the game away. The roughing the passer calls were ridiculous. I heard on the radio that the one that got Nick Nelson disqualified was a good call, but not the following two calls. What got me angry was Fresno’s quarterback that was playing it up and the officials were eating it up. But there is no excuse for the secondary’s lapse in allowing the passing TDs. Seems they have a habit of making a mediocre quarterback look like a Heisman candidate.

What is it gonna hurt to try Reilly? We can’t do any worse! (Or can we?)

JJ IMO is the only guy who can turn this ship around quickly. He did it before with the SAME PLAYERS Von Appen had. Bite the bullet for two more games guys. Hopefully RESCUE IS COMING SOON.

Can we replace Kekaula next season too, please? Just switch him and Kanoa. PLEASE?!?!?!

At first I wanted to say the team was pathetic but after cooling off I’d say the team was listless – no emotion, no energy. The first Q looked like a game between two two win teams. Then things started to change in the second Q. With the help of the refs FSU seized the momentum and played downhill the rest of the game while we spun our wheels stuck in the mud.

Hopefully the new coach fires all of these coaches. Unlike Mac’s staff none should be retained. No discipline, no fight and terrible coaching sums up our season. This is what New Mexico St’s fans must have felt all of their years lucky they are not on our schedule or they would beat us by forty too.

This game shows how far we have fallen and how much better other MWC teams are than we are. We often look at our team in isolation– like looking at a boxer punching the heavy bag– you need to see how we compete with others. The games have proven how years of bad coaching and poor recruiting have taken us. Other teams– like New Mexico that beat Boise State last night– have improved as have San Jose State, Fresno State, and UNLV, leaving us at the bottom.

  114. 808 November 15, 2015 5:51 am

111, Good point. Bad decision making has filtered down from UH higher ups and ego driven behind the scenes people (i.e. R. Freitas, et al.) to the football program. This situation is the result of bad decisions by people that are supposedly in charge of UH football. Every school that entered the MWC when it was expanding in football had a vision on what it would take to succeed. It looks like UH had no vision. The only change that happened is the school decided to change their nickname back to include the Rainbows and to rebrand themselves with new uniforms. All changes that were made at UH for the benefit of football were purely cosmetic.

  115. cappie the dog November 15, 2015 6:03 am

In Freitas’ defense, didn’t he at least help us get into the Mountain West?

As an independent, we would be Body Bag U.

Wasn’t it Mountain West or bust?

    Fold, or join the FCS?

Or maybe the Sun Belt would have rescued us.

After all, they took geographically dislocated places like Moscow, and Las Cruces.

  116. papayalips November 15, 2015 6:16 am

Was wondering why there seemed to be a “blackout” of reporting on the applicants for Head Coach. Seemed organized to keep the attention on the football team.
Painful. Any investigative journalism going on?

  117. tom-warriornation November 15, 2015 6:33 am

CHANGE THE INTERIM COACH-can we bring back June Jones temporarily for the last 2 games?

CHANGE THE QB–Start Zwaheln (it’s ok to give up his redshirt year) or Reilly.

WE NEED SOMEONE TO FIRE THIS TEAM UP! This team IS LIKE A DEAD MAN WALKING; HAS NO FIRE, HAS NO PULSE. I saw this live, sitting 9 rows behind the team at UNLV; and even more so last night.

  118. FearGod November 15, 2015 6:38 am

In Freitas’ defense, didn’t he at least help us get into the Mountain West?
At worst help put UH in debt..total cost? for MWC teams playing here

  119. Makai November 15, 2015 6:54 am

We all feel pain, sorry Tom but a interim head coach is put there to just finish out the season. They will try and win, but we put up the white flag after the Air Force game. It would be dumb to burn Zwhalen’s red shirt year with two games to play. Try Beau instead.

This is a terrible football team. Coaches have no answers, players have given up. Undisciplined. There’s no point even in getting upset at this. It is what it is. Best of luck to the new head coach next year. He’s gonna need it.

  122. Come on, man! November 15, 2015 7:14 am

Currently, UH is the McKinley high school of the mountain West.

  123. Old School Dave November 15, 2015 7:25 am

Ivin Jasper HC. Kim McCloud as DC. Look at their work and their team’s current records. Need to increase the assistant’s salary, the recruiting budget, and the university/Legislature’s financial backing (subsidies for flying teams in and non-revenue Wahine sports). Just hiring a coach will not change the situation at UH. Nick Saban or Urban Meyer wouldn’t be able to win here, as it is. Just a thought.

  124. Old School Dave November 15, 2015 7:30 am

A little diversion: Univ of Maryland’s new $155 million dollar football complex. They received a $25 million gift from Amour All. Lane Kiffin has interviewed for the job. Dino Babers is also a likely candidate (as with the Missouri and Illinois job).

    http://www.umterps.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=209770880

Locals say, UH “No Can.” Well, that’s part of the problem, I think. Lack of vision.

  125. Maddog50 November 15, 2015 7:43 am

After a very promising start this team is in total disarray. There is talent and it is young so no doomsayer here. Last nite no QB play receivers were terrible the OL spotty, no real pass rush which resulted in flags after the ball is away and LB DB play well they fit in well with the previous statements. So I don’t think they are so far away from getting to a competitive level. NM, NEV, UNLV, and Last nite opponent could have and should have been defeated. Leaving the last few weeks for opportunity. As bad as it has been a couple of players here and there and some different perspective(coaching) changes an awful lot. One thing for sure at this level you can not go out and sign guys from a JC unless they can help now. You can not turn a project into a player quick enough. It was known all along we neede help on OL and DL and the end result was we had 2 interior DL and reall about 8-9 OL with maybe one of those a suspect. You need 15 active OL and 6 DL. The next guy will evaluate the current crop and find about 6 OL with the rest total unknowns and I really hope we reverse this 3-4 alignment to a 4-3 alignment. You saw on the field last nite probably half the players at one time or another freshman. The other thing Just my opinion, but a seasoned knowledgeable receiver coach. Some of these young guys who I think have ability are just plain full of themselves without having proven a thing. You either learn humility or life teaches it to you-life is a relentless brutal teacher! Life lessons class is in session! Still gonna support the Warriors now let’s see how long some arms are as they reach down inside for some pride-GO WARRIORS!!!!!!

  127. Rodney November 15, 2015 7:50 am

Now I know who calls the offensive plays!!
Just wish Bailey would cut loose on play calling

  128. 808 November 15, 2015 8:06 am

If the business model of how UH football income is taken from them to support another state entity (Aloha Stadium) is not changed and if the extra support needed from the state legislature are not met, then games like UH’s football 56-14 win against BYU and the glory days of winning with the run and shoot offense will be a distant memory.

Ten, twenty years will go by and everyone will say, remember when UH football was exciting and winning games.

The McKinley High School analogy is a perfect analogy of the state of UH football and how it compares to the rest of the MWC.

  129. Makai November 15, 2015 8:16 am

We are still falling and haven’t hit rock bottom yet there are two more games to go. Amazing how one man alone can cause so much destruction to a program.

  130. Come on, Man! November 15, 2015 8:31 am

time to face the facts, rodney: i don’t think bailey doesn’t want to open up the offense; he CAN’T. His quarterbacks are terrible. His receivers are terrible. And he has no running game to speak of.

  131. 3-Prong November 15, 2015 8:37 am

123 Maddog50: Insightful comments on our state of affairs.

My feeling is we need the Pied Piper June Jones. Some say he is not a good recruiter because he does not personally go out to the recruits that often. They don’t realize how many good players come to him because of his success over the years.
The recruits and their parents remember the JJ years. We will get our share of good local talent. HANA HO’U!

Mr Matlin, do not overthink this. Let’s Go Bows.

  132. Come on, Man! November 15, 2015 8:46 am

no. what we really need is pat hill: quarterback god.

    lol.

  133. Derek November 15, 2015 8:47 am

On the post game, Leonard Peters said that he believes some of the players and some coaches have checked out. I saw a defense that cannot stop the pass last night and cannot stop the run the prior week. Lots of penalties, stupid penalties. A certain captain with a personal foul penalty again. Announcers keep saying about the lack of discipline. In fairness, the injuries have taken a toll. This is not the defense that played tough earlier in the schedule.

Offense! Start with the QBs, both of them. Injuries too but we can’t make excuses right. The one guy I see playing hard is Paul Harris. And he’s playing hurt too. Also, #83.

The announcing? I also concur with some others have said, Kekaula has too go. In the begin I tolerated it, now it’s irritating me with those slow one by one word hesitation, not to mention it’s hard to understand him a lot of the time. Time for a change too. He should go back to radio with Curran.

We will fight with Louisiana Monroe for the worst football team in FBS. In college football news ranking, Monroe right now is dead last. We are not far away.
