Keeping the faith

After more than 35 years of marriage, Lysa and Johnny Kono still gaze at each other with love-at-first-sight affection.

Their love for each other — and for the UH football team — was on display last night at Aloha Stadium.

There were 3 minutes remaining in a blowout loss, the wind had joined the rain, and the fans in their section already had left, if they had even shown up at all.

But the Konos, covered in ponchos that resembled post-shower bath curtains, did not budge from the seats that have been part of their families since the stadium opened. Lysa’s father, Richard Among, was a pastor whose daily walks included glimpsing the Warriors’ practices.

When I was descending from the press box to the field, the Konos yelled, “Hey, Stephen!”

I turned and asked: “Why?”

Why sit in the rain to watch a game that was out of reach and approaching 4 hours in length?

The answer is simple.

It’s because they’re fans.

    Good points, ST.

Losing still hurts. If you’re a UH fan, graduate, former player, resident who follows and cheers for UH, the loss still hurts. In spite of all of the shortcomings, lack of financial support, Pilikia, negativity, UH is still our team. We want to see them do well.

  2. kev-1 November 15, 2015 9:33 am

There was talk on the radio last night that only 3 players showed up for the post game alma mater. If that is true, I wonder why?

  3. Old School Dave November 15, 2015 9:41 am

In spite of all of this, LB Julian Gener was all over the field and credited with 17 tackles. Need more players like him in this program. Not the biggest guy, but has a motor that goes full throttle.

  4. Whats up November 15, 2015 9:48 am

I feel bad for the young men playing there collective okoles off for another loss. Is it me or is the Kailua-boy, Makoa Camanse-Stevens the only WR that can catch a pass? I guess Makoa Camanse-Stevens learned how to catch passes at Western Arizona College. Because the Hawaii WR’s can’t catch a cold learning from the current WR coach on Hawaii coaching staff.

Talk about blow out loss… 1-8 SMU is really missing June Jones right now.
    Navy 55
    SMU 14

  5. Stephen Tsai November 15, 2015 9:50 am

    Kev-1:
This was the first home game since Chow’s firing, and the post-game protocol wasn’t very clear.
Even Naeole did not know his interview schedule until after the game. He was great, and met with everyone and spoke openly and honestly, but he did not know ahead of time where he was supposed to go after he addressed the team.

  6. tom-warriornation November 15, 2015 9:52 am

CHANGE THE INTERIM COACH-can we bring back June Jones temporarily for the last 2 games?

CHANGE THE QB–Start Zwaheln (it’s ok to give up his redshirt year) or Reilly.

WE NEED SOMEONE TO FIRE THIS TEAM UP! This team IS LIKE A DEAD MAN WALKING; HAS NO FIRE, NO EMOTION, NO PULSE. I saw this live, sitting 9 rows behind the team at UNLV; and even more so last night.

  7. Stephen Tsai November 15, 2015 9:57 am

    Tom-Warrior:
I think the defense was fired up early. But when it was apparent that the Fresno QB was off limits, it does change the approach.
I think Sean Schroeder probably could have benefitted from that when he was hit 115 times in 2012.

  8. thomas November 15, 2015 10:02 am

sorry to say program has fallen so deep that stories of interest focus on fans.

  9. Old School Dave November 15, 2015 10:03 am

Dan Robinson was also a battered QB in 98 running Don Lindsey’s offense.

Speaking of Navy and OC Ivin Japser (a former UH QB):

    http://khon2.com/2015/09/30/former-bows-qb-jasper-still-running-same-plays-as-navy-offensive-coordinator/

  10. Former UH Athlete November 15, 2015 10:07 am

I really hope Reilly gets to start at least one of these last two games.

I don’t want him coming off the bench in mop up duty because the team’s focus is gone by then and Reilly’s only going to get crushed.

If UH is serious about seeing what Reilly has to offer, Naeole needs to name him starter and give him 1st team reps during the week to give him any chance to succeed.

  11. kev-1 November 15, 2015 10:08 am

Thanks for the explanation ST, I wasn’t sure that was true or not.

However, this team has played at home before. The players AND coaches know that has been a post game routine. Not showing up for it is an example of a defeated team, in more ways than one.

    I can’t say that I blame them.

  12. Tangomike November 15, 2015 10:10 am

Head Coach didn’t know where to go ? No one knew where to go? Even the other assistant coaches forgot about the alma mater? Captains forgot about the alma mater? Same place they been going for the last 3 years!
Team has quit, coaches have quit, fans have quit.

  13. Come on, Man! November 15, 2015 10:16 am

maybe the reason reilly isn’t getting a start is because he’s a third string qb who may even be worse than woolsey and wittek and isn’t ready to play.

  14. Balko November 15, 2015 10:23 am

At least we know that Chow was consistently bad at evaluating talent: the remaining coaches are terrible.

To those who argued that the outcomes would be better now that the coaching staff was displaying their talent and skills for prospective employers rather than mailing it in and collecting a paycheck, is this what you meant?

If only our receivers were allowed to catch all of their balls from a coach in a meeting room, we would be in great shape.

The AD might want to consider forfeiting the last two games: probably be cheaper than the charade of paying two teams to fly in. Sure, he will have to sweet talk the sponsors and season ticket holders, but really, are we going to prolong this mess?

Give the players their checks for the semester, a hearty thank you for enduring Chow, and call it a season.

  15. UHFaithful November 15, 2015 10:31 am

I too was one of the faithful who stayed until the very end, as we do for every game, WIN OR LOSE. I can’t believe the coaching staff and players “forgot” that they’ve been walking up to the band after the games. In fact, even after the loss to Air Force, after the entire Air Force team walked over to our side while the UH Alma Mater was played, our team then walked over to the Air Force side for their Alma Mater. Classy. To #38 Malachi Mageo & #74 R.J. Hollis (& maybe 2 others, couldn’t see your ‪#‎s‬): Thank you for your display of maturity and school pride. To the rest of the team AND the coaching staff who walked off the field: Shame on you….AUWE!

  16. NorthShoreFan November 15, 2015 10:37 am

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…bootiful day.

Well the sun is up and the cool breeze is flowing. Snap, Clear, next play.

I didn’t get to listen or see the game last night but the reports of the amount of personal fouls has me concerned. Is it a case of a officiating crew just out of balance with things or did we just lose complete control of everything? I didn’t read of Fresno getting called for the same infractions so it suggest that we were out of sync with the rules.
kev-1 #11.. so true. Got to find out what gives with the boyz. Did the team intentionally snub the post game routine? Some showed up so where was the rest of the team? This might show why we are playing like we have. Some have bought in and are doing their part to help the team and some have given up. It hurts me to opine this way but what else can the reasons be?
I know it must have been really frustrating for the players to execute the game plan and be called for all those penalties.
Anyhoo, game plan for SJS and rededicate to the team.
    IMUA WARRIORS!

  17. NorthShoreFan November 15, 2015 10:48 am

    so we quit?

  18. Former UH Athlete November 15, 2015 11:00 am

    13. We already know what Wittek and Woosley can do and what their limitations are… Which clearly haven’t been good enough to win games. These two were penned in as the #1 & #2 QBs back since the spring of 2014 (when Wittik committed). No other QB was/is going to get a chance.

Now that the season is lost and an interim coach that knows he needs to start applying for a new job… Now is the time to see if any of the underclassmen will be productive in the future.

On that note, are there any more WRs that can play? At this point, the WR corp dropped passes issues are completely embarrassing for college athletes. Even the teams that run option offenses and barely throw the ball have WRs with better hands.

  19. Old School Dave November 15, 2015 11:01 am

Overlooked, but New Mexico beat Boise State on their blue turf, 31-24. Very rare for the Broncos to lose at home and after piling up 648 yards in total offense, but those turnovers.

  20. oneseason November 15, 2015 11:13 am

Hopefully, AD Matlin is getting to read a lot of good resumes for the head coach job. One thing to consider as a performance incentive for the head coach and assistant coaches is a percentage of revenue growth from prior year football ticket, parking, and H-Zone sales.

  21. SteveM November 15, 2015 11:14 am

    Good morning everyone!

I stayed until the cannon fired and stopped walking when the alma mater played. When I got down to the escalator, they were about to shut it down. The concourse was almost empty except for employees and vendors packing up.
Credit the band for sitting in the rain all game and playing our alma mater to an empty house.

  22. A-House November 15, 2015 11:16 am

    playing underclassmen:

noticed that UH DL had Choi, Manoa, and #54 at NG — 2 soph and 1 fresh — they were not totally effective, but it gave them a chance to see what they need to do to become better players — eye hope!

there must be some really big egos on the team – coaches and players

broken, dis-spirited, listless — any other adjectives to describe the UH team?

one thing for sure — opposing coaches know to not mind what happens in the 1st half as the UH defense will totally collapse in the 2nd half

Von Oppen years were bad, but I have never, ever been so frustrated with UH football since 1959 when I first attended UH

I’m an old man by many standards, but still spirited.

com’on Matlin, make your selection now if none of the coaches you hope to apply have not done so as of today!

I wish our local political leaders (so-called) would see sports as Mayor of Albuquerque, NM..his comment re UFC Holly Holm win…

“You know, sports matter,’’ he said. “It matters if your football teams wins, it matters if your basketball team wins. It effects the psyche in such a positive way when you’ve got a world champion that comes from your hometown…
“You’re proud of your hometown because you’ve got a champion like Holly. The fact that shes does it with such grace and humility and she’s honorable in her actions in what she does, that just does it to a whole new level.’’

    GO Warriors!!!

  25. Manoa Mist November 15, 2015 11:37 am

So Boise has now lost to Utah State AND New Mexico? But Gary Dickman said Boise could hang with Ohio State after they beat us 55-0. Remember that? Guy don’t know what he talking about. And have we reached the 75 TD mark or is UH just all waha? And sorry we need a whole new set of receivers. I was told Collie was our best guy then he drops three last game and I turned off the tv after he dropped his second last night. Our party? We all left after the first quarter. We suck. We truly suck. If we are to be this bad, let’s just shut down football and be a basketball school. All we are is a national embarrassment.

  26. Walaka November 15, 2015 11:56 am

The disappointment is loosing game after game and we need experience men to play football. Football is a team work and is not just the coach. It was a bad decision to terminate Chow. What a disgrace football team in Hawaii!

  27. Arcumfortis November 15, 2015 12:10 pm

The next athletic dept hire (football HC) may be the most important hire in the history of UH athletics. The level of demoralization in the fan base is deep, the landscape of college athletics has changed and the economics of travel the dept faces are daunting. We need to get back to exciting football where we compete every game and win the majority. A few more years of this and there will be no fans and with that no revenue for the athletic dept. Our political leaders also need to take a stand. Athletics need their support to be competitive. They have to decide whether they feel UH athletics is important to the state. If not so be it but then athletics will probably just die a slow death. Better we know there is no support if there isn’t and those who make that decision be accountable for their decision by their voter base.

  28. Stephen Tsai November 15, 2015 12:23 pm

    1. re-negotiate travel agreement with MWC. Reduce and set a fixed budget that the MWC can distribute to conference based on need. I believe MWC would like to keep us in for the Bowl Game. UH can no longer afford to pay every visiting team the same amount.
    2. require a UH home game between away conference games. Do not permit two consecutive UH away games. MWC must accept that a 5000 mile round trip every week is not healthy for student athletes.
    3. Increase recruiting budget to find under reported talent. Develop scouts in far off areas like Western Pennsylvania, Western Virginia, Louisiana anywhere out where we can find good solid athletes that may compete in the MWC but be overlooked by the top power schools.
    4. Coaching. Forget any D1 coaches. Need community college or the like that is used to working with raw talent and no starts. Creative, willing to adapt game call with what he’s got. You got to play the hand you are dealt not the one you wished you had.
    5. Love the players. Quit being negative. There is a difference between criticism and out right meanness. I did a project for the Navy, a Colonel in the Marines made the point that no one intends to screw things up (not exactly his words), but when it does fix it and get moving.

  32. Bigwave96744 November 15, 2015 12:32 pm

Makoa Camase-Stevens is upping his stock and should be considered contending for a starting position.

Good to see Ryan Tuiasoa in the game.

UH defense could not stop the pass last night
because of the refs. Period. Perfect pass defense
and the refs called pass interference. I think they
must have been betting on the game or working
    for someone who was…

  36. J November 15, 2015 12:44 pm

Part of the usual routine in high school when I was at UH football games with my uncle and aunty: See if the Konos, Pastor Among and Mr. Tetsu Hirayama were in their seats. Look for Stephen Tsai on the field and see if the binoculars could zero in on his reporter’s notepad. Curious to see if he was using shorthand. Wena never managed to teach us that skill.

  37. Leron November 15, 2015 1:02 pm

#30 Makoa deserves a scholarship for next season

  38. SteveM November 15, 2015 1:02 pm

    Hi J — long time!

    RE: #29
I am not against the charter flight subsidy, as long as we can set the game start time to any time we want when TV is not involved…like 7:00 – 7:30 pm game starts. More conducive to work schedules and tailgate dinners…should raise the attendance counts (for tailgates if not the game). Then if you had an exciting and compelling reason to enter the stadium….

I’m beginning to think that any body bag games for $1+ million should have a charter flight back to Hawaii at least. Going can be any schedule. Coming home expeditiously and getting treatment/therapy for injuries should help a little.

  39. Bigwave96744 November 15, 2015 1:12 pm

With all the drop passes this season, I hope Duke Bukoski gets in a few downs in the last 2 games of his career, not just on special teams.

  40. FearGod November 15, 2015 1:13 pm

Coach Naeole please send out an invitation for the last two games to the student body president and those that elected him, so that other than family members and the Kono’s in attendance for the alma mater we might have some school spirit and personal pride in attendance. Katoosh

  41. oldtimer808 November 15, 2015 1:20 pm

It’s great that a lot of young players were able to get some experience. Our young DE Manoa, hope he learned a lot from this game because he was out of position consistently and did not protect the outside.

  42. Come on, Man! November 15, 2015 1:32 pm

“1. re-negotiate travel agreement with MWC. Reduce and set a fixed budget that the MWC can distribute to conference based on need. ”

good luck with that. Hawaii doesn’t really have much leverage to renegotiate. UH needs the mountain west WAY more than the mountain west needs UH.

  43. Rodney November 15, 2015 1:36 pm

ST It may or may not be a big deal.
It’s odd that 3 players were paying
attention and knew what to do.

  44. dopaco24 November 15, 2015 1:36 pm

#36 and #29 RE: “charter cost”
I’ve read where some MWC teams didn’t even fly charter to Hawaii. If so, that subsidy nearly covers the entire trip(plane ticket, room, food, per diem, bus, etc.) The MW likes to use the term “Cost Sharing,” while the correct wording should be “Cost Covering.” The subsidy should be more like the Big West’s policy. $500 per player for MW West teams and $700 per player for MW Mountain teams. Coaching staffs and training staffs shouldn’t be included in the subsidy calculations. So with the 68 player travel roster it would be $34,000 total per team from the West and $47,600 for Mountain teams.

  45. Willie November 15, 2015 1:52 pm

Looking ahead to the last home game of the season, more than likely that last game will have significance on the coaching front. Both UH and Louisiana-Monroe have interim appointed head coaches. Barring a OT tie, one is guaranteed to get their first victory of the season.

  46. Willie November 15, 2015 2:00 pm

Sometimes all that is needed to change things around is some kind of break. In this case New Mexico has been on the upswing after squeaking out that come from behind victory against the Warriors. The Lobos now have a chance of winning the division and possibly the MWC championship. Guess Bob Davie can thank Chow for his disdain of simple basic special teams 101 strategy on that 22 yard field goal late in the game, you could say that this ignorance was the impetus for this “break”.

  47. cocobean November 15, 2015 3:20 pm

The team stay broken. We’re much like Humpty Dumpty where all of Naeole’s changes and all of Naeole’s coaches couldn’t put the team together again. We got no one on staff that can move the team forward in one direction. The team has no ethos. Everyone is trying hard individually but I don’t see a group effort which is what it takes to succeed in team sports.

I really think it’s pretty much out of the current staff’s hands. At this point it’s pretty much up to the players to come together. In the first Q it was pretty even – two two win teams going through the motions. With then help of the refs and our lack of execution FSU seized momentum and kept it the rest of the game. They came to life in the middle of the 2nd Q while we were still spinning our wheels stuck in the mud. Make no mistake FSU is not a good team. They probably had as many or more dropped passes than us. It’s just they came to life while we didn’t.

The way we’ve been playing is an example where the whole adds up to be way less than the sum of it’s parts.

(BTW I was there till the final gun. I wanted to see if Beau would get a shot.)

  48. Stephen Tsai November 15, 2015 3:21 pm

Did you ever see ASUH election results?
    The turnout is really poor.
Back in the 1800s when I went to UH, the ASUH representatives were just building resumes. If they had any impact, they wouldn’t have lost the great seats they had nor been hit with the other fees.

  49. Stephen Tsai November 15, 2015 3:24 pm

As water was dripping on our heads in front of the bathroom — and anytime there’s water dripping on your head near a bathroom you wonder about the source — a bunch of us (John Veneri, Ferd Lewis, Derek Inouchi, Robert Kekaula) noted that Aloha Stadium is old and not a very charming old.

  50. Willie November 15, 2015 3:37 pm

I’m on the lets see what Beau can do bandwagon. Don’t think he can do any much worst than the other two QBs. Time for a purge and change. #44cocobean, this was my comment from last night on the Video: Fresno Stan Lee’s subject line.

  51. A-House November 15, 2015 3:58 pm

what the heck is a “D1 arm”

does a QB need a d1 arm to be a successful/effective passer? very few “long passes” are caught – one in 10 or less? accuracy is the best of all — however scouts only look at the “glamour” and so do many other coaches, players, and fans

short passes with YAC is more effective to get 1st downs and scores – yes yes, the long passes are more “glamorous” than the 5-yarder and if you are a “status person” this would be your calling.

  52. A-House November 15, 2015 4:02 pm

for all it’s worth – ASUH is a farce — much like “student council” or an class officer

my high school class officers are “do nothings” — sit back and let the horses do all the work and they get called on to say a few words – Ha! – what a joke!!!!!!!!!!!

  53. sfogate November 15, 2015 4:13 pm

Very disappointing game on so many levels. I can’t believe that the coaches are not willing to try out other WRs that they have. If the current starters continue to drop passes, why oh why do they stay in the game?

  54. H-Man November 15, 2015 4:19 pm

I stayed till the final gun sounded. But I stayed dry in the South end zone loge section, but the wind sure was blowing. As for the game, the officials handcuffed Hawaii from making defensive plays. I don’t feel Fresno out-played Hawaii in the trenches. Hawaii just cannot find ways to stop the long pass routes. I remain optimistic for next season.

  55. Former UH Athletics November 15, 2015 4:24 pm

29… The travel subsidies are unfortunate but they were a requirement the MWC and Big West required from UH to join the conference.

The harsh reality is that UH needs to be in the conferences a lot more than the conferences really need UH as a member, so UH had little leverage to negotiate when the WAC became too weak to maintain football and UH needed to find a new conference. Add that on top of that UH admin can’t negotiate out of a paper bag to begin with.

  56. Old School Dave November 15, 2015 4:31 pm

Stephen: Maybe Aloha Stadium could be called “rustic?” Maybe, not.

Building a new 45,000 seat stadium with luxury boxes would be a boon to recruiting, no doubt. Hell, schools like Utah allow the public to rent out their banquet facility in their stadium.

    http://abovethecity.com

  57. Come on, Man! November 15, 2015 4:50 pm

    “does a QB need a d1 arm to be a successful/effective passer?”

    it definitely helps.

” very few “long passes” are caught – one in 10 or less?”

if your quarterback is completing less than 10% of his deep passes (depending on how you define this), then your quarterback is EXTREMELY terrible and should rethink his life choice of playing football.

“short passes with YAC is more effective to get 1st downs and scores”

    depends on your offense.

  58. mctruck November 15, 2015 5:03 pm

  59. z November 15, 2015 5:24 pm

  60. papayalips November 15, 2015 5:49 pm

    NFL.com: Ranking the 11 college head-coaching vacancies.
    10. Hawaii
Why it’s desirable: Two factors make it one of the most stress-free coaching jobs in the business: 1) It’s Hawaii; 2) The pressure to win isn’t anywhere near the same as it is at a lot of schools. Norm Chow lasted nearly four years going 10-36; at UH, a mere bowl appearance here and there keeps you safe.

Why it’s not: Hawaii is not only one of the lowest-paying jobs in the FBS, it’s one of the lowest-paying in the Mountain West Conference. There is no recruiting base to speak of, and the athletic department has been in dire financial straits for years.

Perfect fit: Former UH head coach June Jones.

How demoralizing. Have you ever heard the adage, “WINNERS NEVER QUIT, AND QUITTERS NEVER WIN”?

Most of athletes are earning a free education by playing football. It’s an honor and privilege to do so. Couple that with the honor and privilege of representing the islands, the people of Hawaii and your family.

To see them give up is a huge disappointment.

    Can we replace Kekaula please?

but Julian Gener is one giving it his all !! talk about playing with heart!!

Wow, if that is true about Zwahlen leaving, that will be a big loss IMO. He got all the tools, good size, athletic, way above average arm with touch, good football IQ foundation with room to grow and what I admire most is that he got great feet/footwork. It was said on this blog that he is not going anywhere. Hope he decides to stay.

  70. FearGod November 15, 2015 8:06 pm

If June Jones is signed….If Zwahlen is leaving
We move forward as they say….which of the two would the fans prefer at this time?

  71. hitmanhart November 15, 2015 8:16 pm

if Zwahlen leaving, he would have to sit a year before he would play i think !!

  72. cappie the dog November 15, 2015 8:32 pm

If Navy emerges as the BCS-bound team to emerge from the “Group of Five”, would that get your attention.

My wish list remains the same: 1. Ivin Jasper 2. June Jones 3. Rich Miano 4. Beau Baldwin(out of respect to the poster who mentioned him, whose comments I usually read) 5. Nick Rolovich

Watching New Mexico take down Boise State at Albertson Stadium, I felt like I could see the future of Hawaii football.

The triple option accomplished the near-impossible.

    96-4 home record.

I think some people may be too preoccupied with style points.

    Yes, the offense is archaic.

But if the Lobos can win 6 games(and counting), surely we can, too.

    I understand the downside.

Will it bring out the fans?

Well, Benjy Taylor played an entertaining fast-paced style of basketball, and for the most part, people stayed away in droves.

Maybe the simple fact is that there are so many more things to do in Hawaii, than say, Albuqurque(is that how you spell it, David Cassidy?), NM, people just have better things to do, and don’t care.

    This team beat Colorado.

    This team has quit.

On a lighter note, Mike Thomas is funny.

You had to be watching Thomas from the right angle at the Stan Sheriff Center.

    Don’t get me wrong.

I support the players 100%, but I will laugh at their shortcomings.

There was this one play, Quincy passes it to Thomas, and it just bangs off the small forward’s chest.

The two players congregated during a dead ball.

I think Smith said something to the effect of “but you were looking right at me”.

Thomas is still a lot more talented than Adhar Mayen.

The threat of deep passes opens up passing lanes for shorter routes.

  75. Dano November 15, 2015 8:51 pm

San Jose State is much improved over last year. Looking forward to “inner circle” tailgating and kickoff Saturday again at Aloha Stadium….

  76. Darren November 15, 2015 8:52 pm

I really enjoyed the players’ video after the 3rd quarter. Much more entertaining than singing a really mellow song.

  77. z November 15, 2015 11:07 pm

Wouldn’t mind seeing more of Mageo.

Remember a while ago, in the Bottom 10 they had the crummy game of the week? I wonder how many games in the last 4 years UH vs anybody would have been in? Got to admit that the last 2 years the MWC was not very good and we lost all of the games except San Jose State who tried harder than us to lose and did. Looking forward to a new coach, system, and a new winning attitude.

ST, Thank you for sharing this story. This is precisely why we need to do better for the fans, the players, the program, and our university. Change although difficult is often necessary. More than ever, we need a head coach willing to come in and make the necessary changes. A coach that will have the love needed to put the pieces back together.

  80. amela November 16, 2015 12:48 am

    78.

According to ESPN’s Bottom 10 writer, Hawaii fans were tweeting him, wondering why he didn’t add the Warriors to the list.

Hawaii finally made the list prior to the Fresno State game.

  82. cappie the dog November 16, 2015 5:53 am

During the waning moments of the game, Brocke Stepteau got up from the bench, then sat back down.

    This was Coach Ganot’s dilemma.

This is what he was probably thinking.

With Coastal Carolina in fouling mode, and Hawaii trying to protect a sizable, but not insurmountable lead, the coach thought: Do I live with Quincy Smith’s free-throw shooting, or do I insert Stepteau, who will shoot a higher percentage but may be prone to turn the ball over due to his inexperience.

    Ganot chose ball-handling.

And Quincy actually made both free throws during one trip, which, naturally, brought me to my feet.

If Hawaii was winning, nobody would find fault with Robert Kekaula.

If anybody needs to be fired, it’s the floor wipers at the basketball games.

Hire young girls, they work harder. I’ve seen them at the Na Wahine volleyball games. They hustle.

These young lads look embarrassed to be out there, and work with disinterest.

I think they don’t want to look uncool in front of the cheerleaders and Rainbow Dancers.

I think somebody told the MC not to sound so lecherous when he introduces the Rainbow Dancers. Usually, his voice goes a few octaves lower when he says, “Rainbow dancers.”

  84. 3-Prong November 16, 2015 6:19 am

Is the reason for not playing Reilly and Zwahen because they are trying to preserve a year of eligibility? If so I understand not playing them with only two games remaing.

  85. 3-Prong November 16, 2015 6:30 am

Hoping talk of Zwahlen leaving is just that. Zwahlen would fit in nicely in a JJ passing attack. I understand that his dad had NC connections and there may be a sense of loyalty to leave along with him but he should hang tight and wait to see who the next coach is.

  86. 3-Prong November 16, 2015 6:31 am

Have a great week everyone…….Go Bows!

  87. 3-Prong November 16, 2015 6:35 am

Volleyball set to make their run. Basketball teams look solid. New football coach on the way. Much to look forward to!

  88. Whats up November 16, 2015 6:40 am

I would not burn anybody’s redshirt for the last 2 games of this season. Got to preserve the redshirt for the players. Some of them might transfer either by choice or not next season. This season is pretty much over, no sense in wasting a redshirt, got to do what best for the young men at his point.

  89. cappie the dog November 16, 2015 7:01 am

    84.

The coaches are afraid to play Beau Reilly, because if he produces, the coaching staff will look as if they can’t evaluate their own player personnel.

The bar is set so low.

All he has to do is throw over 50%.

  90. Derek November 16, 2015 7:54 am

Reilly is on scholarship. He burned his redshirt year last year. So what’s the problem!!!! Play the man. The other Ws can’t even complete 50% of their throws. Maybe that’s the problem, coaches don’t have common sense or are not logical.

  91. truegreen November 16, 2015 7:57 am

#84 3-prong, #88 Whats up: Beau Reilly red shirted last year. There is nothing to preserve by not playing him in the last two games. Except maybe pride.

New Will Smith movie is out to destroy American Football.

I had a concussion and now am 75 years old and still rootin and atootin.
It is a bunch of bs. People die when their time is up. Not before.
    Not after. 🙂

#22 … me too A-House. I’ve been following UH since the Hula T … and I can never remember being more frustrated.

I am not prone to doing this, but I gotta say that our Offensive and Defensive Coordinators have packed it in. Nothing new for our opponent, no adjustments … just the same ole **** that we been running all season. At least our Special Teams guy created a misdirection on a punt return.

Looks like Tom Mason and Don Bailey are too busy looking for their next jobs.

  94. NorthShoreFan November 16, 2015 8:47 am

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…bootiful day.

We need to cool the negative talk. There was a lot of discussion prior to coach Chow being let go about putting other people in charge. We got what we wanted. There was a lot of talk about letting the offense and defense go. We got what we wanted. Sometimes you need to be careful of what you want. It may not turn out like you dreamed it would.
Support the boyz and coaches. They are not playing to lose. We’ll see who the gamers are and who is along for the ride.

    IMUA WARRIORS!

Tim DeRuyter suggests Hawaii tried to rough up Fresno State’s QBs. Zack Greenlee, somewhat surprisingly, stood up to the bully tactics.
