Not sure when they’ll receive the paper work but sometime this week UH should sign
Norene Iosia (5’11” Setter) Redondo Union
Kirsten Sibley (6’2″ Outside) Campolindo HS

walk-on is

Also, one of the boosters who says he has too much time on his hands sent this in
first number is conference matches home average, second is what they drew against Hawaii

maybe they should charge the top 3…airfare for the team huh… like the football warriors do…

Does anybody know the capacity of those venues? I’ve only been to LBSU and Fullerton, but Fullerton couldn’t hold that many people because they only open one side of the court. Every place else is too far to travel on a Friday night, maybe on a Saturday I would go. Traffic is horrible on the 405.

  3. H-Man November 10, 2015 12:42 pm

Those two recruits are really good ones.

  4. Cal Poly alumni November 10, 2015 1:56 pm

I can only answer for Cal Poly as I used to watch volleyball matches at Mott Gym back in the eighties. Capacity there is about 3,000.

I’m a little surprised by the low attendance number for the UH vs UC Riverside game. I attended that match and it seemed like much more than 472. The side we sat on (behind the bench) had the most UH fans and it seemed about half full. The other side was maybe a 1/4 full. UCR’s SRC Arena is like a high school gym so it only seats around 2500 or so….so I would have guessed the attendance number closer to 750 or 800…..

Truth be told, the Wahine are the draw for those schools when they come to town. I remember back in the WAC days I was living in the Reno area and there might be 200 people for Wolf Pack home matches. Hawaii comes to town and the attendance jumps to 1000+.

In about 2013 a laundromat owner in Reno told me she was a Wolfpack wvb fan, and liked Hawai`i games most of all. Not necessarily because of the team, though, but because of the Hawai`i fans. She loved their grace, enthusiasm and friendliness.

The venue at UC Davis is called The Pavilion at ARC
It has a max capacity of 8,000, but for volleyball they don’t open the third (top-most fold out bleachers) tier of seats.
Just a guess, but I think the bottom two tiers (fold out bleachers at court level and permanent middle level with individual seats) must be around 3,000.

    Cal Poly 3,032
    CSU Fullerton 4,000
    CSUN 2,000
    Long Beach State 4,200
    UC Davis 7,900
UC Irvine Bren 5,000; Crawford 800
    UC Riverside 3,168
    UC Santa Barbara 5,600

    Thanks Cindy and others.

I am really surprised that Fullerton and LBSU are about the same. Maybe if Fullerton pulled out all the bleachers, but it still doesn’t look that big.

    9. Thanks Cindy. Kind of surprised that CSUN’s gym only holds 2k. That’s pretty small for a D1 venue….

Congrats to USC senior Samy Bricio, who was named AVCA Player of the Week and, should Southern California make it to the Promised Land (Omaha), she would be a shoo-in for National Player of the Year …. “Bricio moved into 11th place in Pac-12 history for career kills (1,897) … She was selected the Pack-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the 6th time this season, setting a Conference record for the most weekly selections … She leads the country in aces per set (0.74), points per set (6.32) and total aces (67) … She also ranks third in kills per set (5.16) and fourth in total points (575.0).”

I think UH warriors volleyball will be signing Austin Matuatia, Jackson Van Eekeren, Everett Schuette and Jack Reese as well.

  16. sharene November 11, 2015 4:17 am

Beating a dead horse with a stick here… Those numbers alone along with the SSR should be reason for Hawaii to host. Depending on most regionals, a lot of family and friends would not make it to the venue anyway…say Kentucky or Florida to Washington.

  17. Cindy Luis November 11, 2015 9:17 am

Yes I got those facility numbers from school sites
That is capacity Doesn’t take into account if they don’t pull out bleachers or close off sections

  18. Cindy Luis November 11, 2015 9:18 am

(What I most remember about Hartong was her incredible ability to cover her blocked shots like no Wahine before or after her.)

    Thanks for the links

  22. Bleachercoach November 11, 2015 11:27 am

Thank you for that link OrbitalRipZ about Emily Hartong. She is still phenomenal and in great shape. Gosh she really got nice hops and explosive power for her stature. One of my favorites all time!!!
