Bukoski, Joas awarded scholarships

The Warriors staged a talent show for rookies last night.

But coach Norm Chow said the “funnest” part was announcing that wideout Duke Bukoski and running back Pereese Joas were awarded scholarships.

Bukoski, a Saint Louis School graduate, relinquished a scholarship from Idaho State to transfer to UH as a walk-on three years ago.

Joas, who was raised in Texas, went through a period of homelessness in his quest to become a Warrior.

Here’s the Honolulu Star-Advertiser story: Bukoski, Joas article

I’ve always said, “Sallie Mae is not your friend.”
Anyone who can exit college with minimal or no debt wins.

I though i heard Brandi Higa on KITV say last nite that also Muraoka, Rigo (and not sure i heard Pasquoen) were also give scholarships ?

  8. Stephen Tsai August 10, 2015 9:21 am

    They renewed Muraoka’s one-year scholarship.

  9. oldtimer808 August 10, 2015 9:34 am

This is always a feel good time when scholarships are rewarded to walkon players who give of themselves.

    7. — Got it.

Anyone seen the kickers in action yet ? How do they look ?

  11. islandman August 10, 2015 9:44 am

    I mean 8. — Got it.

  12. Old School Dave August 10, 2015 9:46 am

Congratulations! Always a great story when walk ons earn a scholarship.

  13. Stephen Tsai August 10, 2015 9:53 am

They have three kickers competing — Sanchez, Bondi and Novoa. Unfortunately, there wasn’t room for McDonald in training camp.

  14. islandman August 10, 2015 10:03 am

I think kicking will be important again this year, including the field goals. We need the ice man mentality. Ice the game.

    14.

We need a Dan Kelly-like kicker. I stumbled upon a youtube video of the final moments of the Nevada game back in 2007. Watching that still gives me chicken skin.

It’s always nice to hear when hard and dedicated workers/players get recognized.

    ST & SteveM:

Mrs A-House made contact with Hawaiian Tel, explained our problem, and said something wrong with our “hard drive” and have it checked out.

Now, have to make an appointment with the Geeks.

is called “passing the buck”….or lazy…or just don’t give a …. (fill in the blank)

if work in chrome or ne other…nothing wrong with hard drive…

    maybe change adapter setting..
surely there must be a “tech guru” on here that can n will help… be patient..

#17, #18, Used to work at HT. I don’t think it’s their responsibility to diagnose problem if internet is not the problem which looks like it’s working in this case. They should be more careful about giving out information if they have no clue as the customer could be led in the wrong direction. Just be aware that the person could be a tech person but as you know you cannot be the expert of all things. These PC issues can be frustrating but Google might have some info that might help.

Congrats to Duke and Joas- met Dukes dad at NIU game last year-quick question is that it as far as scholarships? Also do you think the official u veiling of the uniforms is Sept 3rd or an event that causes a marketing stir ?

  21. bowwar August 10, 2015 12:31 pm

Are both Joas & Bukoski Seniors?? I would think Joas should be a Sophmore.

  22. SteveM August 10, 2015 12:35 pm

Congrats to Duke Bukoski and Pereese Joas!
    Mahalo for choosing UH!

    RE: #17
A-House — yup, that’s a very accurate diagnosis– [software on] your hard drive is bad. As a retired tech type, I recommend you just use Chrome if it works. Save your geek $$$ until Chrome fails too.

    Great Afternoon All!

Congratulations to Mr. Joas and Mr. Bukoski!

Watched Joas on Saturday…bugga has a burst.

I recall thinking at the time that Bukoski’s coming home would manifest into a nice continuation of the role that Salas played as a “big body” WR but seeing the expanded role that the TE’s will seem to have for the new OC I am just glad that the HC has rewarded his hard work in practice.

Anybody else noticing something weird about the blog? It keeps pulling the screen up to the video of Steve Smith automatically and not letting me post at the bottom of the page. I have never seen that happen before. I suppose that is unique then huh? Had to close out twice and reopen to be able to post.
Anyways, met Kika Bukoski once, he was a really good brother. Hope all the best for his son. UH needs him, put him in coach. Glad to hear Duke is on scholarship.

Close all your programs and then completely shut down your computer. Power off for a couple of minutes. Then turn it on and let it re-boot. This will fix a lot of minor problems.

  26. st. anthony trojan August 10, 2015 2:32 pm

Don’t forget….pull the plug out from the wall…n if you are disconnect ur router etc… from HT.. n pull the plug at nite… in morning u will have probably a new ip address…this might help also…or maybe that dude from HT…told u that already…

  27. islandman August 10, 2015 2:49 pm

Joas must have been in school in earlier years to start his clock running ?

  28. beans August 10, 2015 6:12 pm

    Andrew #14
IMO Dan Kelly’s kick that night in the blowing cold wind with the Nevada fans screaming was the best pressure kick in Hawaii’s recent history. And he did it twice in a row! I don’t know if he got the game ball, but he should have.
    U N D E F E A T E D! STILL. It was excitement that you could have only felt by being there.

Eh, WarriorNY. You just beat me to it.

    Interesting article, indeed!

They renewed Muraoka’s scholie? Hey, every team needs a barber.

KIDDING!!!!! I remember his segment on the coaches’ show about him cutting hair. Just thought I’d re-enter the blog with a bang.

Seriously though, I got mad respect for the players that bust their butts day in and day out hoping for that spot or that little shine. I always feel like if the underdog were to get that one shot, they will make the most of it.

Congrats to all of the new scholie recipients.

  31. Tempmanoa August 11, 2015 6:52 am

Great article on the battle for starter at USC and where the battlers are now– we have one of them. It reminds you how tough it is to be a starting QB– you come out of high school as top dog, but you need to battle to get your shot for a position where there is almost always only one starter who gets almost all the snaps in practice and plays almost all of every game.
