What happened to Makayla Tucker? No wonder UH lost if she wasn’t available.

  3. Kazu March 18, 2015 7:16 pm

Watching match on tv . This is the first for me. This game is not easy besides only two players its hard to get around in sand. Another thing is every time they hit 7 points they switch sides. Give these players a lot of credit . They must really be in shape.

  4. Cindy Luis March 18, 2015 7:18 pm

    2. Tucker has a back strain. Not the reason UH lost.
on another note, CSUN men def. USC in 4. Tuileta with career highs of 17 kills, 10 digs, 3 aces.

  5. warriorfan March 18, 2015 7:23 pm

I saw that match Tuileta played well but was aced on match point.
Northridge could actually make a run for that final spot in the mpsf tournament but they will have to upset more teams.

  6. warriorfan March 18, 2015 7:26 pm

Too bad about Tucker, will she be out long?
even though Spieler and Urban lost that first set, it’s really entertaining to watch.

    USC’s too tough right now.

  9. Cindy Luis March 18, 2015 7:49 pm

    Spieler-Urban lose to Bukovec-Strange, 21-18, 21-16.

  10. Cindy Luis March 18, 2015 7:52 pm

Don’t know about Tucker. Was the reason UH forfeited that match in Chula Vista last week.

  11. surfboy March 18, 2015 8:57 pm

Hope UH can avoid all 5 pairs losing..saw this one coming…anyone have scores?

  12. warriorfan March 18, 2015 9:01 pm

This Tiegs/Taylor and Claes/Hughes game is intense and very entertaining.

  13. surfboy March 18, 2015 9:33 pm

    Scores?

  14. warriorfan March 18, 2015 9:38 pm

Even though UH got blanked 5-0 I like their chances in a rematch against USC in the post season. Once Tiegs/Taylor get more experience playing together and Tucker comes back.

  15. Cindy Luis March 18, 2015 9:49 pm

    Tiegs-Taylor lose 21-16, 19-21, 15-10. UH led 4-1 in Set 3.
    SC wins 5-0

does the sandbows already have a branding of sorts? i got back from ching, watched flights 2 and 1 on tv and ocsports said and kind of made the branding as “rainbow sandbows” which sounds lame.

the branding should be “Hawai’i SandBows” and/or “Wahine SandBows” just like Hawai’i Sand Volleyball and Wahine Sand Volleyball.

  17. wildcard March 19, 2015 1:41 am

too bad. sc sweeps all 5 vs hawai’i. bound to happen especially with sc knowing that hawai’i is #1 and undefeated and would love to prey on taking that and the 0 away from the sandbows. sc came with maximum firepower while the sandbows strength was nearly depleted or depleted.

    10. didnt tuckers pair win vs gcu was it and then apparently forfeited after they won?

  18. Cindy Luis March 19, 2015 10:42 am

    16. Don’t know if you’d call it branding. It’s what the team has called itself since 2012. And we (the paper) have gone with that. Helps diffentiate between the Wahine teams (IMHO).
We’ve covered them for four years. Yesterday was OCsports’ first time. Maybe they hadn’t decided what to call them yet. They and other stations sometimes call the Wahine teams the Lady ‘Bows. Don’t know why since the women’s teams have always been the Wahine (or Wahines back in the day before they dropped the un-Hawaiian ‘S’.
The coverage at the Big West basketball tournament called them the Rainbow Wahine Warriors. They also couldn’t pronounce Kuehu’s first name.
not as bad as the Fullerton radio guy who kept calling the the Wha-HYNES

Discussion within the volleyball department is to brand it as Hawaii Volleyball. The teams work out together and Hall has had some of the men’s indoor players practicing on the sand for strength training.

    17. They lost the 2 that went to 3 sets. against Pepperdine, they won both matches that went 3. wouldn’t have changed the result but 3-2 looks better than 5-0.

It was odd situation with Tucker-Schreiber. Hall said he told GCU they were forfeiting the match but both coaches and players decided to play and to ‘see how it went.’ with Tucker’s back. Win or lose, UH-4 wasn’t going to continue playing. UH-4 did win but had already conceded.

I don’t think SC thought about the ranking. If you know anything about their coach it is that she is very competitive and a competitor. Was a great athletes back in her time at USC, three sport athlete (track, volleyball, swimming) All-American in track. vaguely remember her for the AIAW track nationals that I covered when I was a student at UCLA.
And she has played pro beach and coached beach volleyball pairs in two Olympics.

They beat Hawaii last year and looked very good last night. What will be interesting is how SC fares when hosting Pepperdine Tuesday. The feeling on both the UH and SC sides were that the top three teams are Hawaii, Pepperdine, SC (alphabetical) and there everyone one else is playing for that fourth spot in the nationals.

One thing they won’t be doing next trip to Chula Vista … fly out the same day. Hall said he nearly sent the rest of the team to the airport so they could make the flight from SAN-SFO-HNL. and he would have stayed with the pairs who had advanced to the semifinals. The pairs lost in the quarters and UH made the flight.

    18. the team called itself “SandBows” since 2012 and tv acknowledged that as a good nickname but before just that, they talked about how they are the ‘rainbow sandbows’ which should be incorrect.

IMHO Hawai’i Sand Volleyball should be only called the following:

    Hawai’i Sand Volleyball (formal)
Wahine Sand Volleyball (for the all female)
    SandBows (current)

the Lady ‘Bows is more fitting for Wahine Volleyball (indoor)

  22. wildcard March 20, 2015 5:42 am

    19. yes but as for the sandbows strength and reserves

    UH#1: nearly depleted
    UH#2: depleted
    UH#3: nearly depleted
    UH#4: depleted
    UH#5: depleted

    USC#1-5: maximum power

if tucker had a bad back couldnt they have replaced her with someone else before the next match had started? i understand that if you get injured during the match, your flight automatically (and unfortunately) forfeits due to medical forfeit, but they couldnt replace a player in the pair/tandem for next match?

i was kidding about SC thinking about ranking but they clearly came with maximum power ready to play while the energy of UH had been spent.

so hall said he did wrong getting his sandbows out of there the same day eh? did it really accosted his players?

  23. wildcard March 20, 2015 5:43 am

    21. concur.
