Full staff

Newly hired defensive coordinator Tom Mason and defensive backs coach Abraham Elimimian are set to arrive in Honolulu this weekend.

Jake Cookus, who will coordinate specials teams, began working for the Warriors this week.

The additions complete UH’s full-time coaching staff.

The Warriors are seeking to hire two interns. Lance Samuseva was promoted from intern to assistant coach. Donovan Raiola, who has drawn praise for his help with the offensive line, is not expected to return as intern.

    Me know a resume…is just that…a recap of a persons knowledge…sort to speak…but really tells u hardly nothing about him…his morals…n enthusiasm etc…

Seems to me Mr. S. is young n brings a lot of enthusiasm to the coaching family there at UHAD. Besides he is 49er fan…so can’t be all bad…he he he

You don’t need a very long n good ‘looking’ resume to get the job done in life….

One only has to look to Hawaii Kai…n Kaiser High School…to see the works of a man that made it possible…Henry J. Kaiser…as a young man he sold pencils to make some ‘kala’…n when his mother died… due to lack of funds for medication…etc…we now have Kaiser Medical….read about him when he built his ‘pink palace’ built there on Oahu….

His resume started out selling pencils…n today his handiwork is seen daily there in Hawaii n else where…from…movies (hawaiian eye)…health care…autos…ship building…communities…etc…n poodles….he he he his wife’s passion…

RESUME HELPS… but you also need…morality…enthusiasm n good work ethic…n willing to work your ‘trade’…hope he can do the job up there….me wish him success …4 good ones….just passed ….hope more good ones start up in their footsteps….

Anybody else think it’s troubling that a person on work furlough was arrested on an accusation of burglary? That’s multi-tasking, at its worst.

  9. hatakeman February 27, 2015 10:23 am

Good to see the coaching staff coming together nicely. When does spring practice start?

  10. jm2375 February 27, 2015 10:33 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

    Welcome to the new coaches!

Congrats to the BaseBows, MBB and esp the Wahine basketball and swimming/diving teams on their wins!

Sorry about the multiple posts. Dunno why they weren’t posting- kept trying and that’s why you see so many posts. Did I mention that I wished good luck to all of the new coaches? Same goes for the old coaches and all the players.

    GO WARIORS!!!

Sometimes, people commit crimes because of the lure of prison — 3 meals a day plus someplace to sleep without the cops chasing you away.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Congrats to Chow for finally completing his staff. Hope everything works out for the best.

  20. Bugaz February 27, 2015 11:43 am

Hopefully we are a much better team by 2020. They (Ducks) probably buy their way out of the game here after we play both up there. Hopefully not though.

    Welcome new coaches!

  21. seewhy February 27, 2015 12:04 pm

    Ducks vs. ‘Bows…
    “How bout them ‘Bows!”

  22. Andrew February 27, 2015 12:15 pm

    UH @ Oregon

definitely a game I will be going to

Funny how UH actually won the previous meeting although that Oregon is not the same program that they are today.

  23. 3-Prong February 27, 2015 12:27 pm

The atmosphere in Oregon’s Autzen Stadium is unreal. So cool when the whole stadium gets up and dances to the song “It Makes You Want To Shout” . Got to see Marcus carve up wazzu in da pink helmet game.

Pssst: Helpful hint, drink before you go. no beer inside.

  24. Andrew February 27, 2015 12:47 pm

I’m looking forward to going to Wisconsin next year. They do something similar with “Jump”

  29. hatakeman February 27, 2015 1:13 pm

Probably means nothing, but it looks like Dave Shoji, not Ben Jay, that represented UH Athletics at the $1.2 million gift ceremony last night.

  30. tom February 27, 2015 2:19 pm

    hatakeman#29

Chancellor, Ben Jay and Dave Shoji represented UH at the presentation last night.
Both Ben and his predecessor, Jim Donovan, were most helpful in getting that donation.

  31. al February 27, 2015 2:22 pm

    Tom…isn’t that so pathetic?
All of the head coaches who were at home should have been there!

  32. NorthShoreFan February 27, 2015 2:26 pm

    Guud Afternoon Tsaikos…bootiful day.

Wet but cool day. Great to see the whole team complete now. IMUA WARRIORS!

  33. tom February 27, 2015 2:28 pm

In the donation (2.2+Mil) given by Jim Bolte (God rest his soul) – prior to the lady’s two donations – Jim Donovan made a special trip to thank him. Bolte was living about 100 miles south of Reno).

AL: I didn’t expect Dave to show and I am sure that the others had things to do.
I wouldn’t expect them to be there.

I would have been probably more honored if Mr. Kimura and his birdie showed up! 🙂

  36. Stephen Tsai February 27, 2015 2:45 pm

    It’s 50-50 I’ll be alive in 2020.
But at least I’ve seen UH beat Oregon in football before.

  37. Andrew February 27, 2015 3:34 pm

    36.

Also lived to see UH beat Alabama

  38. Andrew February 27, 2015 3:35 pm

    28.

Oh yea I just realized I said year rather than season. my bad

  39. hatakeman February 27, 2015 4:20 pm

Because I don’t remember when Hawaii last beat Oregon, I looked it up. To my surprise, Hawaii beat Oregon 3 times. All under HC Bob Wagner – 1988 41-17 at Aloha Stadium; 1992 24-21 at Oregon; 1994 36-16 at Aloha Stadium. Hawaii hasn’t played them since, so it’s Oregon’s opportunity to even the score. And like you ST, it’s 50/50 for me too.

  41. hatakeman February 27, 2015 4:32 pm

Tom, thank you for the clarification. I incorrectly based my comment on the photo posted on the Hawaii Athletics web site. Apparently, Ben just happened not to be in that particular photo.

  42. hitman February 27, 2015 4:56 pm

aloha everyone !! welcome all coaches to UH football !! let all hope that they be able to do what they do best and coach!!

    Go Raiders!

  44. al February 27, 2015 6:01 pm

Mr. Tom…the mailman must have misplaced my invitation.
But, I’ll gladly buy you a hamburger on Tuesday.

  45. al February 27, 2015 6:02 pm

Mr. Tom…Dave showed up because he gets it.

  46. pollypicador February 27, 2015 6:09 pm

The public knows,by now, who’s come in the front door in regards to Chow filling his staff. Yet (correct me if I am wrong) the public doesn’t know who’s gone out the back door-Wynn or Matthews…no clarification or confirmation…only a poster’s report. Why? Al?

  47. 808WarriorFan February 27, 2015 6:53 pm

ST – Every conference has their 2015 schedule …except… the MWC. Any word when it should be coming out. I’d like to plan a “roadie” to either the Nevada or UNLV game.

  48. Na Alii Pride February 27, 2015 7:09 pm

Rear don said in his blog that interviews for the AD job started today. Any birdies out there know who is getting an interview?

  49. jm2375 February 27, 2015 7:37 pm

Congrats to the MVB Warriors on their 4 set victory over LBSU. Rematch tomorrow.

  50. jm2375 February 27, 2015 7:41 pm

😳 Congrats to the SoftBows on their mercy rule victory over SJSU.

  51. Mike96816 February 27, 2015 8:48 pm

#46 – possibly another case where an AD employee leaves town but continues to draw a paycheck?

  52. true fan February 27, 2015 10:00 pm

Tom #30. If what you say is true, a lot of folks should rethink their thoughts of Donovan and Jay. They surely didn’t have an easy job and shows they were trying and where their hearts are.

  53. David J. February 28, 2015 2:46 am

GOOD MORNING HAWAII! It’s about time!. Welcome to university of Hawaii’s Family! All new coaches!. You thought that Chow couldn’t do his job and put him down and now look what he brought in to university of Hawaii! Thanks Norm Chow!.

I think I have some inside knowledge of the donation.

    AL’s birdie helps too! 🙂

    David J #53

Many of us are thankful that Chow seemed to have assembled a staff that will produce immediate results (something he should have done from the start), but the proof of the “pudding” will be the final 2015 record

what he accomplished the first 3 years is not a record I would be proud of

speaking of coaching staff: can they begin to recruit 2016 prospect by making contact via phone, twitter, face book, etc. and continuing preparation to evaluate players and set offensive/defensive schemes for 2015?

  56. A-House February 28, 2015 7:57 am

Counselor Tom, Jim D and Ben J:

thank you for your efforts in seeking and obtaining that HUGE donation to UH athletics from such a generous person – who it be is not relevant as he/she wants to remain anonymous

from the A-House family, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I was a coach, I would certainly make the effort to attend the presentation ceremony because this may be the second and ONLY time UHAD will receive such a huge amount – yes, circumstances may have prevented their attendance such as being on the mainland recruiting, etc.

like al said, “Shoji get’s it”
