A not-uncommon scenario is to try to buy tires only to be told, upon further inspection, your car also needs a brake job and other unplanned work.
But in the NCAA’s allegations against UH, it is — metaphorically — only about the tires, or in this situation, only about the men’s basketball program.
The UH athletic department is consistent in self-reporting any possible infraction, even what would be considered the most manini. Butt dial? UH writes a report. When the NCAA came down — once, twice, three times — it checked all of UH’s proverbial self-police logs. The conclusion, it appears, is there is no collateral target.
No UH sport but men’s basketball should have been concerned. But, still, there are no guarantees when the NCAA brings the finger-print duster. In this case, for 19 UH sports, no news is good news.

When Fotu left the program, to me that was confirmation of wrong doing. Whatever happened, maybe we will or won’t find out all of the details. My guess is we won’t considering UH’s track record of coming clean.
What is a joke to me is that you would expect to put a winner on the court if you are going to cheat. Gib allegedly cheated and was a 500 coach.
Also, lets not forget that in cases of alleged improper benefits, players are involved too. Players know when they are getting things they shouldn’t. They are young, but they are not children. They know right from wrong. So to me, it says a lot about a player (or players) too.
Please don’t let the NCAA be judge and jury. Let’s use our attorney’s. I trust the NCAA to be FAIR as much as I trust Bernie Madoff with my piggy bank.

On the surface it seems to me that the school and Jay are taking the proper steps in answering the charges. Back in August, Jay in anticipation of a letter of allegations by the NCAA, hired expertise in this case (Alabama based law firm/attorney).
At this point my hope is that the hired expertise attempts to seek the lesser/least penalties for his client (UH). Obviously.
I would also anticipate Ferd’s FOIA card “up his sleeve” to come into play sometimes soon. If there is anyone in this state that routinely uses the Freedom of the Information Act…it’s Ferd. He can get information out of UH (and he has in the past…i.e., UH’s guest list at the Sugar Bowl) by using the FOIA card.
I want to know what are the contents in the letter, which has not been released to the public. Second, what is the running bill for the hired expertise in this case.

All bills introduced are on a website available for public consumption. It’s easy to propose a bill at the legislature and difficult for said bill to make it out of committee, therefore it’s not an issue yet. Guarantee there are other bills that could have a much bigger influence on your lives if passed.

Sooooo…..Is UH still paying Gib? Does he have return whatever money if UH did pay him? Can UH cut off future payments if necessary since he lied and embarrassed UH? Isn’t there a “code of conduct” for coaches too? Whose idea was it to continue to pay Gib? Maybe he/she/they should pay off whatever damage that will effect UH.
Never admit guilt. Thats how the system works. Hire high powered law firms and take the NCAA on. Raise the excise tax and lets have at it. Don’t take any crap from the NCAA. Lawyer them into submission.
Ben Jay could have waited till June to announce his resignation. But by announcing in December, he gave UH time to plan for a change. That’s why a new AD won’t be announced any sooner, not unless UH feels they need to move towards a dismissal (but without cause). Well, that’s my take of this matter.

I’d like to see what kind of defense Gib comes up with for that one. I hope the NCAA gives him some kind of suspension from any kind of coaching, both him and Akana. Its sad that their actions affect the University that they’re not even associated with anymore.
The NCAA notice of allegations seems damning to me, making the decision not to renew contracts seem very reasonable if it is not refuted. Hopefully the former coach will present his side. He certainly seemed anxious to do that at the end of the year.
Allegation 2 is particularly interesting in its scope of interviews and sanctioning.

No collateral damage??? I don’t know. The reference to Benjy Taylor being present at an impermissible scrimmage(s) may result in some collateral damage. Hawaii athletics needs to get over this self defeating process about not hiring the best candidate and only hiring candidates with some sort of Hawaii ties. By subscribing to this xenophobic procedure Hawaii is eliminating 99 percent of the candidate pool. What is the rationale behind this idiotic mindset? Steven thanks for the update today. Now it is a wait and see. Overall in my opinion solid group. Mr. Ulu Perry would be absolutely fantastic. Coach Naoele is certainly qualified to bring this young man along. Had a chance to visit practice and watched most of the time the OL go throug their paces. There will be a noticeable difference in this group as the youngsters gained experience. Just hangin in there till Wednesdayy. On another note just finished moving a couple tons of heavy wet deep snow(Chicago). You are so lucky and I just am not!!!!! Go Warriors!!!!

Interesting situation for Hensley.
On the one hand you have a solid offer from UH where they basically say “we want you to play for Hawaii!”. And on the other hand you have B12 and the ACC saying there’s a “possibility” there might be a last-minute opening should a “preferred” prospect fail to pan out one reason or another.
Kind of makes a player feel like leftovers.
