Warriors head to San Jose

The Warriors had an upbeat 90-minute practice this morning on Ching field, then were scheduled to depart this afternoon on a direct flight to San Jose. (I’m proud of myself. A whole paragraph without breaking into a Dionne Warwick song about you-know-where.)

But this being Thursday, the Warriors were ready to ruuuumble. Yep, it was the weekly full-contact, quarterbacks-are-live scrimmage known as the Warrior Rumble featuring developing players and redshirts.

Head coach Nick Rolovich played this before the game: Michael Buffer intro

And then …

> Quarterback Cole Brownholtz was 3-of-5 for 44 yards. He scrambled twice for 24 yards, and threw a 21-yard scoring pass to …

> … wideout Don’Yeh Patterson, who broke free on an out pattern.

> Freshman safety Kalen Hicks scored on a 40-yard interception return. He had a chance for a second pick-six but dropped the pass.

> Quarterback Hunter Hughes completed an 80-yard scoring drive with an 8-yard pass to timeless/ageless Samson Anguay.
Here’s a (blurry) clip of Anguay’s celebration: samson Anguay video

Defensive tackle Jeremy "Hurricane" McClam
Defensive tackle Jeremy “Hurricane” McClam

An SEC study found that 28-year-old defensive tackle Jeremy “Hurricane” McClam is the second-oldest player currently competing in NCAA Division I-A football.

McClam serves on the scout team, sometimes as a nose tackle, sometimes as an offensive lineman. McClam, who was in the military until four years ago, understands his role and that he is unlikely to play in a game this season.

“That’s fine,” he said. “I’m here as a complete service to the team.”

He said he considers himself to be a mentor.

“I don’t want to step on toes,” McClam said. “It’s their chance to lead. My chance was back in my prime. Now I’m here to pass off information.”

McClam enlisted when he was in high school. He said his military leaders were in their late 20s, the same age he is now.

“Now it’s my turn to give back,” McClam said.

McClam, who has three children, said his family supports his decision to attend school and participate in football. He said his girlfriend “understands my passion for others. She sees it as a way of giving back.”

I was there at the UH at San Jose State game 2 years ago when we got our last road win against them 13-0.
I wish that i could be there again this year but i have to work. Live Radio will have to do until I can see the replay on TV.
Had a great Rally last time at Hukilau Restaurant in San Jose. Even the UH Band showed up and played there. Good Food too!
Also there was a great Tailgate last time with Larry Beil as MC and was set up by I believe it was Brody Nakamas Dad at San Jose State.

And the best part was that we beat them and shut them out.
It was interesting to see all the famous names on their Stadium that had connections to San Jose State.
    Hana Hou!

    Go Bows!
    Beat San Jose State!

#5 Tanman. Good idea about the sponsorship. the ebay guy lives on Maui, and sends his kids to Punahou.

He is trying to open a stinkin dairy farm, close to the resort condos.

He is also part of a hui that wants to pipe in deep sea cold water to run the air conditioning in downtown Honolulu.

Don’t kno if he want to sponsor UH sports.

Keep rotating players in and out, lets be ready to finish strong! This team has yet to form an identity!!! Are they a great defense like WASHINGTON or a great offense like LOUISVILLE or a beat you up team like STANFORD??? Find SOMETHING to hang your hat on coach!!! If CHANG and BRENNON lit it up- then be that! Or maybe Virginia Tech SPECIAL TEAMS play. You wanna recruit to your strengths BUT YOU GOTTA HAVE ONE!!! I coached for a lot of years and no one wanted to deal with our DEFENSE we were a freaking nightmare to the point that the ref’s would say to me TONE IT DOWN COACH your team has made it’s point!
    Let’s get it going UH!!!!
