Warriors: Estes joins coaching staff

Former UH offensive linemen John Estes has joined the Warriors’ coaching staff as an intern.

Estes replaces Ramsen Golpashin as top assistant to O-line coach Chris Naeole. In 2015, Golpashin was a graduate assistant who served as interim line coach for the final four games. Golphashin is now with Oregon, his alma mater.

Estes was a three-team All-WAC player who was used at guard and center for the Warriors. He started a record 54 consecutive games, including the 2008 Sugar Bowl.

Estes played professionally with the Jacksonville Jaguars and in the Canadian Football League.

The Warriors open spring training on Monday, with the first practice at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

Great to have you back, Stephen.

Having former Warriors like John, who have that certain credibility from having made it to the show (NFL) and having been exposed to high level OL techniques/drills, will bode well for us.

    Hey ST!! Welcome back!!
Yep, still lurking after all these years…
Time to ramp up the enthusiasm for Rainbow Warrior football, with the new staff and Spring Camp just around the corner.
Gotta add my cheers for the men’s and women’s basketball teams!!
It feels like Warrior Nation and ST have emerged from the darkness into the light of a new season, and it feels good!!

    Welcome aboard, John Estes!

Duster and Unkanesson — long time….!

The eventual plan is for Estes to be a graduate assistant. But the admission process takes such a long time he wouldn’t have been allowed to participate in spring training. An intern can be on the field but there are certain restrictions on what he is able to do.

    RIP Gary Shandling.

Wait, here is the connection to Hawaii sports.

During the Anthony Carter/Alika Smith years, it was rumored that Shandling had called about San Jose State tickets.

Hawaii opponent Nevada made it to the CBI Championship Series against Morehead State.

Hawaii opponents UC-Irvine and Coastal Carolina are still alive in the CIT.

Brendon Hornung, welcome to what was Matt Cooper’s world.

    Throw a shutout or lose.

Cooper is where he is today because the White Sox farmhand was always trying to protect a 1-0 lead.
