Warriors add TE

Ryan Hall has been accepted into UH’s graduate school and will participate in the Warriors’ training camp.

Hall earned a bachelor’s degree in seven semesters at Duke, meeting the NCAA requirement to transfer to another FBS school without sitting out a season. He will have two seasons of UH eligibility.

Hall will be reunited with former Duke quarterback Sean Schroeder, who also earned a bachelor’s degree before transferring to UH.

Hall applied for UH on his own and initiated contact with the Warrior coaches. His girlfriend is a graduate of Duke and Punahou.

“They talk about Warriors showing up and burning the canoe,” Hall said. “I bought a one-way ticket to Hawaii.”

Hall is a little taller than 6 feet 3, and weighs 240 pounds.

Tight end Clark Evans will not participate in training camp because of personal reasons.

    First?

Glad we are getting some depth at TE but how about a Kicker?

Glad to see Alex really wants to play but at some point dude has to man up for his mistakes!

  2. Stephen Tsai July 26, 2012 3:20 am

There probably needs to be some patience.

It might have been wiser to wait until a punishment had been imposed before calling a news conference to question the authority to impose a suspension. I think I finally understand the phrase: Putting the cart before the horse.

  3. WarriorNY July 26, 2012 3:21 am

Thanks for the Updates in Vegas ST…

  4. Big Kahuna July 26, 2012 3:22 am

    Second?

    Welcome Mr. Hall!

Mr. Evens is out for the fall?

  5. WarriorNY July 26, 2012 3:22 am

    Darn so close to #1…

  6. mctruck July 26, 2012 3:24 am

    Morning everyone,

Well, the 72hr. rule to suspend or not, just amplified by Alex’s attorney in article this morning. Hope the AD and UH coaches recognize what they need to do for future referrence; no more indecision(s).

Hope TE Hall get’s his chance, good luck to him. Wassup, Mr. Evans??

  7. mctruck July 26, 2012 3:29 am

Paipai and Mike videos project as very nice young men…tanks, ST.

  8. mctruck July 26, 2012 3:30 am

    ST,

No scared telling us what you are eating while in LV.

  9. nanakuli July 26, 2012 4:35 am

    What happen to Colt?

  10. Buffoman July 26, 2012 5:04 am

If true about Colt, that’s another bad decision made by this young man that could hurt not only his dying chances to play at the next level, but to return to the islands as a favorite son. Hope it is not so.

The attorney for the punter may be technically correct regarding his client, but it was not as if that young man did not know the new rules and decided to break it. I don’t understand the worry if the guy was wrongly arrested and was not driving under the influence. If he was not wrong there would be no suspension.

If he still can, he should transfer to a DII or DIII school. Staying may not be pleasant, especially if he was DUI.

  11. Abunai July 26, 2012 5:09 am

Good morning Hawaii. Good to hear about Hall. Hope to hear more guys transferring into Hawaii.

  12. d1shima July 26, 2012 5:10 am

    Great Morning All!

    Welcome Studly Hall!

    Best wishes to Mr. Evans.

  13. d1shima July 26, 2012 5:12 am

    Nuff already, CB. Lose money!

  14. PONO July 26, 2012 5:25 am

What’s the deal with Colt? What are the rumors?

  15. SAWARRIOR July 26, 2012 5:27 am

    #11, what’s up with Colt?

  16. Bryson July 26, 2012 5:32 am

At least I finally figured out who the mystery player may be….

  17. WarriorNY July 26, 2012 5:33 am

    Bryson,

Care to share with the rest of us?

What is going on with Colt?

  18. kapakahi July 26, 2012 5:35 am

    ST,

    Updated status on Ronald Fields?

  19. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 5:35 am

    Morning, everyone!

Great news on these Duke transfers.

    Paipai and Edwards look good.

What’s the scoops on Colt? Last we heard out here in Atlanta was that the Falcons are showing interest. Whether it’s just to have extra throwing arms for camp or not, who knows. Better than nothing.

Anyways, hope you all have a great day!

Keep the votes coming for Bryant Moniz, please. Race is tightening up.

  20. Shoko July 26, 2012 5:38 am

Guess I’m not the only one intrigued about Colt. After scouring online for the last ten minutes, I found nothing.

Can someone with the inside scoops please throw a bone out to use folks?

  21. Bryson July 26, 2012 5:42 am

    WarriorNY,

    I wouldn’t wanna ruin ST’s surprise….lol

But what is going on with Colt?

  22. Stephen Tsai July 26, 2012 5:42 am

    Colt is actually in Hawaii.

  23. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 5:43 am

I find it amusing to hear some say forget about scheduling Penn State for football. We did the same with Alabama and USC when they were “tarnished goods”. Why wouldn’t Penn State be a good idea? They are also of the elite class, no matter if on suspension. We’d probably get nationwide coverage, and bigger gate and sales receipts, as opposed to scheduling another Lamar, and counting how much we made on cotton candy sales.

  24. Stephen Tsai July 26, 2012 5:45 am

Just a reminder that Tachibana is on suspension for breaking a team rule, not for a violation of the code of conduct. Yes, being arrested is against team policy.

  25. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 5:45 am

And from some of the QB’s we’ve already seen in the AFL, Colt’s accuracy and quick release should get him a job in this league, at least, if he wanted it. Or so it seems to these unprofessional eyeballs.

  26. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 5:46 am

    Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.

    wowowowowow!

It won’t be the first time a DUI was a fake.

I like that Alex is fighting. and I think Cunney’s up for the task.

Cunney coming out now gives Coach and Rockne chances not only to plan for

future problems, but maybe wiggle room for our team. because rules is rules.

and Coach is NOT stupid; He gotta balance da idea, 2 am outanabout, versus guilty or kinda guilty but not USC guilty or OSU guilty or BYU guilty or ND guilty or PSU guilty.

main ting, Warriors have a guiding light.

but I agree with Buffoman 11’s bottom line. Team before 1.

  27. mo808 July 26, 2012 5:47 am

Good Morning! Welcome to Ryan Hall! All the to Vlark Evans! Welcome back CB!

  28. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 5:49 am

    shoko.

CB supposedly busted last night on a DUI.

oh no. no. no. no. no.

  29. d1shima July 26, 2012 5:50 am

Hawaii News Now reporting that they have confirmed that CB arrested for DUI and promotion of a dangerous drug. They sent a crew to HPD before confirming it.

  30. mo808 July 26, 2012 5:53 am

    @28 are you serious?

  31. mo808 July 26, 2012 5:53 am

    @28 omg

  32. Shoko July 26, 2012 5:55 am

    Aww, crap!

  33. WarriorNY July 26, 2012 6:02 am

Oh no… promotion of a dangerous drug? What does that even mean?

  34. mo808 July 26, 2012 6:03 am

@29 DUI and promotion of dangerous drug is nuts!

  35. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 6:05 am

dang dang dang dang dang dang dang dang dang!

but c’mon Shoko. We could see this coming from NOLA, truth be told.

    I still root for CB.

but he needs to schedule a few sessions with Dr. Drew.

    me too.

    🙁

  36. Stephen Tsai July 26, 2012 6:06 am

Wow. Just read that (I’m still at the airport). That’s not a good thing for Colton.

  37. mo808 July 26, 2012 6:09 am

@36 nope to say the least

  38. gmahoney July 26, 2012 6:09 am

    Oh no, Colt!

  39. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 6:10 am

Dang it. Just read it on facebook, via HNN.

As I said, I had vertigo seven years ago, and still can’t walk a straight line. And I stopped drinking way back in ’91, while stationed in Korea. Guess they’d bring me in under suspicion too, for not walking straight. But the dangerous drug bit…? Dang it!

  40. wafan July 26, 2012 6:12 am

Good morning it seems for most of us.

  41. wafan July 26, 2012 6:12 am

    Here come the haters.

Better practice your scrolling and ignoring skills . . .

  42. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 6:15 am

promoting a dangerous drug is like possessing a line of coke. or a block of ice.

CB needs a very good Honolulu gun. Brook Hart esquire, comes to mind. get samoa. Somebody who can control the situation, including the client.

but really, CB coulda used a coach like NC. And I think that is what Coach is trying to do

with the Warrior team. Life Lessons.

Like Guava said yesterday’s post, I agree with Coach Chow handling the situation. And I agree with El Sabio Burro’s reflection in da late post about da timing of tings. but i ain’t worried. Coach can handle!

  43. wafan July 26, 2012 6:15 am

Welcome to new one way Warrior Hall-way!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  44. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 6:17 am

wafan is right. nuff already wit da negative vibes.

i like know… what happened to da money. 😆

  45. LizKauai (iPad) July 26, 2012 6:17 am

    Aloha Kakahiaka.

In spite of its great popularity, alcohol as a beverage is not what the world needs today.

    God Bless!

    Have a great day, everyone!

  46. Stephen Tsai July 26, 2012 6:20 am

    It’s becoming a sad story.

  47. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 6:24 am

who among you lucky buggaz going to the town hall meeting at Pearl Ridge Elementary School tonight at 7 pm? Coach Chow, Rockne Freitas, Scott Wong going to discuss the upcoming season.

if you retirees can keep it together until 8:30 pm, maybe you’ll give us a report?

  48. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 6:25 am

When I was growing up, I used to often wonder, what would my family (relatives, etc., and now, our state) be like if alcohol was totally banned? Would we be a more productive (family) society? Or would crime skyrocket because there’s one less escape from reality?

Sorry for the trolling, but with the recent rash of DUI’s, this question has resurfaced.

I mean, smoking is limited to certain areas now. Whereas, in the past, we’d never have thought a smoking section would exist. It used to be “smoke ’em if you got ’em”, wherever that may be.

  49. Bugaz July 26, 2012 6:28 am

Welcome Mr Hall! Work hard make the cut. We already know you got the skills in the classroom. I hope it all works out in the end.

  50. 3-Prong July 26, 2012 6:29 am

He gave up a lot for us.

  51. BigWave96744 July 26, 2012 6:32 am

If Colt is found guilty, there goes his image and people’s hope of him being a politician (or even Gov). As Hall and Oats said, “Say it isn’t so”

  52. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 6:33 am

    Colt,

    pray with me… for me…

    “Dear Lord,

I know I’ve been frail in my lifetime. many times. Lord, if I get outta this one, I promise to be da goodestest ah da goodest from now on…. Amene….”

notice I got the prayer down pat? das cuz i experienced.

get your head outta your … shell… walk the talk. you owe yourself.

    PS. We love you, man!

  53. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 6:37 am

    Amene. Mahalo, BHF2!

  54. Kekoa July 26, 2012 6:40 am

WW ~ Good points to ponder. Here are 2 others…

What stops coach Chow from simply telling Alex to sit? Sanction or no, it’s still the coach’s call as to wether he plays or not.

Penn State coach O’Brien will be paid about $2.3 million per year in the five-year deal; that includes a base salary of $950,000 year and annual 5 percent increases. He also will receive $1 million annually from radio and TV revenue and will take in $350,000 from Penn State’s contract with Nike, according to the Centre Daily Times.

  55. mo808 July 26, 2012 6:41 am

@54 Yes, BHF2… But for the grace of God go I as well!

  56. polywarrior4life July 26, 2012 6:47 am

Welcome too warrior nation, Ryan! Whow! Too bad for Clark, was hoping he would rebound during the fall. Nice video of Paipai and Mike at mw media day.

Even though I feel bad for Alex, I would have to agree with ST, maybe he should have waited until the final outcome.

I would say that so far this year is full of bad news drama for warrior nation. Need some blessings to break the spells.

  57. Ipu Man July 26, 2012 6:48 am

Amen…for everyone who prayed that wonderful little powerful prayer….

    in Jesus’ name, Yshuah.

  58. Ipu Man July 26, 2012 6:51 am

Psalm 27:4 One thing I have asked of Yahweh, that I will seek after,

that I may dwell in the house of Yahweh all the days of my life,

    to see Yahweh’s beauty,

and to inquire in his temple.

27:5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me secretly in his pavilion.

In the covert of his tabernacle he will hide me.

He will lift me up on a rock.

27:6 Now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me.

I will offer sacrifices of joy in his tent.

I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to Yahweh.

  59. Shoko July 26, 2012 6:54 am

Yep, quite alot of negative publicity. Hope this isn’t a sign of how the season will unfold.

  60. tommui July 26, 2012 7:02 am

I don’t know if it is a good morning for Hawaii.

So sad for Colt who gave up so much for Hawaii.

ST: right on #2 – it is a cart before the horse.

  61. A-joe July 26, 2012 7:07 am

    Colt! Aiyaaaaah!!

  62. Bryson July 26, 2012 7:10 am

Put it this way even if Dunnaiche has to ride the line he’ll still be a participant in practices and will suit up for games the scout will still get too see his punting mechanics…if he doesn’t try and at least get the suspension appealed then he would lose out on alot of possibilities to be seen…so maybe it’s not a matter of him trying to buck the system and not take responsibility more a matter of trying to secure his future oppurtunities….

  63. lava July 26, 2012 7:12 am

Colt Brennan has not been Colt Brennan since he got laid out in the Fresno State game. Colt needs help.

  64. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 7:12 am

    Good morning Tom Mui.

you going to the mete tonight? no more stairs. 😀 get to see Coach Chow, AD Freitas and the 4 steely eyes.

  65. tommui July 26, 2012 7:18 am

ST – nice to hear that the MWC might consider helping Hawaii in its travel subsidy. (SA article this AM).

Wes’side Warrior #39 – I have a balance problem too! If you are stopped on suspicion of DUI, I assume you are smelling of alcohol, slur speech etc., the police would probably require that you take a field test – straight line walking, maybe standing on one leg etc. If you flunk, you would be arrested for DUI.

Hawaii law requires you to take a breath, blood, or urine test if you are arrested for a DUI.

Hawaii’s “implied consent” law says that if you are lawfully arrested by an officer who has probable cause to believe that you have been driving under the influence, then you consent to taking a blood or breath test, or both, (if suspected of alcohol intoxication), or urine test (if suspected of drugs). R

Once you are arrested and refuse to take a test, the officer should tell you that your license will be suspended. After the officer tells you the consequence for refusal, he or she must ask whether you still refuse. At that point, you could change your mind and not face any penalty for your initial refusal.

In most situations, if you refuse to take a mandatory blood, breath, or urine test, you cannot be forced to do so.

Where the incident that caused you to be arrested also caused injury to yourself or another person, however, the state can force you to take a test.

Of course should you refuse to take the test, under the law, your license will be automatically suspended whether you were actually found to be DUI.

The law applies if you were boating or under the influence of drugs.

  66. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 7:18 am

    jmo

good to get the bad news outta the way now. motivation for the good guys. You seen Paipai and Edwards in the videos? and we know get samoa like dem on da team. that was what i took away from watching L&L, Coach Kaumeyer, and hearing coach’s philosophy.

i’ll take Hawaii and the points.

  67. Bigislandkurt July 26, 2012 7:19 am

It happens all the time. The downward spiral of former football players when the game is no longer there for them. Colt’s been persevering through some very challenging times. And now to add this. Damn. How much can one bradduh take?

Dangerous drug could be coke, meth, extacy, pills.

    He’ll bounce back. I hope.

    BIK

  68. wafan July 26, 2012 7:23 am

Agree with bhf2 statement got lots of other good guys on the team.

    They need out continued support!

  70. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 7:27 am

a few lawyers were standing around outside court, shooting the bull on Tuesday. one lawyer said “I was talking with my brother (a deputy prosecutor in Hawaii) and we agreed, if we ever get stopped by a officer and we had been drinking, when the officer comes up to the car I’d already have da window rolled up, turn on my cell phone to my home phone and record, and i would respond to the officer asking for my license and registrating by handing the officer my driver’s license and registration and roll up the window, and not answer any questions nor agree to take a field sobriety test. force the officer to arrest me for whatever charges he claims. the officer would have to arrest me on the spot for what he saw in making the stop in the first place and he wouldn’t have the results of the field sobriety test to back up his claim of having probable cause to make the stop.” I thought about the conversation, and my reaction was ……… hmmmmm…

The tip above is fo all Warriors that want to chance drinking and driving, a DUI, and the implementation ah da babuuz fakta.

    😆 😆 😆 😆 5 stars.

The better approach is to listen to Coach’s sage advice. Do good.

  71. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 7:27 am

Just spoke with one of my Bruddahs… he’s been a Kumu Hula for many years. He’s also still a UH student (working on his Master’s, I think) and does archaeology work for them from time to time.

He said he can’t call them to tell them they need a blessing. They should be the ones calling out for someone to do a blessing on their behalf. Or someone (yes, can be from the WB) can suggest to them that, with all the recent negativity, perhaps they should have a blessing done. Then it would be up to them as to who they call on to perform that blessing.

He also said, with the Hawaiian Department there, that should be the first place they go to, if they wanted a blessing. Also might want both a Christian and Hawaiian blessing, as is tradition with roads, buildings, events, etc.

I can’t volunteer him, as they’d need to talk with him directly. But… yeah… good idea!

  72. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 7:30 am

agree with Big Island Kurt 67.

    ok. gots to go now.

    Have a great day Tsaikos

    woossshhhhhh………..

  73. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 7:32 am

Mahalo, Tommui! At least I now know it’s more than just walking the line! TV shows alter reality!

  74. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 7:32 am

    prayers?

    maybe for you and me.

    but….

    I bet coach is thinking… Glock….

    😆

  75. Musashi July 26, 2012 7:34 am

Seems that everyone forgot that Coach Chow told or remined his players on how to conduct themselves over the summer, and yet, Alex (18 hours later) gets caught for DUI. And what kind of message is his attorney giving, that it is okay to drink and drive, break team rules, nevermind what the coach tells you, because they (the attorney) can try and find a loop hole (or interpret to policy) to get you from being suspended.

Plus, if Coach Chow had suspended Alex within 72 hours of the incident, would his attorney now be saying that Coach Chow was too fast in suspending Alex and did not wait for the court hearing?

Man… it is time to own up…

  76. K-Bay July 26, 2012 7:44 am

    Agree with 71…

Time to Draw a Line in The Sand and In Spirit …

    NEW START,

  77. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 7:44 am

True though. Broken team rules is broken team rules. Period.

  78. Da Punchbowl Kid July 26, 2012 7:45 am

The blog corrects itself. The UH team corrects itself. Life corrects itself. Colt will correct himself.

Prayers for all of the above. Nuff said.

  79. Da Punchbowl Kid July 26, 2012 7:46 am

    Blessing never hurt.

  80. protector July 26, 2012 7:47 am

    Wes’side Warrior on #23,

It seems we’ll have to agree to disagree on the Penn State issue. I don’t consider Penn State to be in the elite class that USC and Alabama are in; not by a long shot. You also seem to be referring to a once proud Penn State who I acknowledge had respectability and tradition; you ignore the state of the state. They are a pariah and it’s the “nature” of the tarnishment that will be a detriment to the school and the state. You keep talking about the money, but not only does Penn State have the stigma they’re dealing with, but they never had the cachet or charisma of USC or Alabama.

  81. protector July 26, 2012 7:51 am

    DPK on #78,

As usual, you are ever the voice of reason and compassion, buddy.

  82. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 7:54 am

Fair enough, protector. But if talking to anyone from the eastern or northeastern part of the country, you’ll hear the same argument for Penn State, and against USC or Alabama. Different strokes…

  83. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 7:59 am

And from that fountain of wealth, known as “Wikipedia”…

Athletic teams at Penn State have won 68 national collegiate team championships (37 NCAA, 2 consensus Division I football titles, 6 AIAW, 3 USWLA, 1 WIBC, and 4 national titles in boxing, 11 in men’s soccer and one in wrestling in years prior to NCAA sponsorship).[122] There have been another 54 national collegiate championships, by either individuals or club teams.[citation needed] The 40 NCAA Championships ranks seventh all time in NCAA Division I, and is the most of any Big Ten school.

Since joining the Big Ten in 1991, Penn State teams have won 60 regular season conference titles and 13 tournament titles, including fourteen consecutive titles in women’s soccer (longest streak in women’s Big Ten athletic history),[129] and eighth straight in women’s volleyball (the longest streak in Big Ten volleyball history).

Penn State has one of the most successful overall athletic programs in the country, as evidenced by its rankings in the NACDA Director’s Cup, a list compiled by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics that charts institutions’ overall success in college sports. From the Cup’s inception in the 1993–1994 season through the 2007–2008 season, the Nittany Lions have finished in the top 10 eight times and the top five four times, and have finished in the top 25 every year.[131] Since the 2007 season, Penn State has won ten National Championships in 5 different sports, the most among current Division 1-A teams.

Does anyone know what happened to Anthony Pierce; did not see his name on the roster?

  85. gigi-hawaii July 26, 2012 8:06 am

Sorry to read the bad news about Colt. Seems like he has hit rock bottom. The only to go now is up.

  86. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 8:07 am

Oh sorry, should have been “fountain of knowledge”.

  87. gigi-hawaii July 26, 2012 8:07 am

As for Dunnachie, he should man up, admit he did the crime, and now will do the time (suspension if Chow goes that route). Is his attorney trying to sweep the dust under the rug? Shame on him!

  88. WarriorNY July 26, 2012 8:07 am

    protector,

Anthony Pierce is going to grey shirt.

  89. gigi-hawaii July 26, 2012 8:09 am

Playing Penn State would be interesting to say the least. Wonder how such a game would affect attendance at Aloha Stadium.

  90. WarriorNY July 26, 2012 8:09 am

Penn State is an elite school with a HUGE football following… Scheduling them would very big…

  91. gigi-hawaii July 26, 2012 8:11 am

Glad for ST’s great publicity for the 2 Warriors in Vegas. It offsets the bad news here in Hawaii. We really should focus on the good guys on the team, not the ones who get in trouble with the law.

  92. WarriorNY July 26, 2012 8:12 am

Even with sanctions, Penn State would have millions of followers on the East Coast. Playing them could only help our national exposure…

  93. gigi-hawaii July 26, 2012 8:14 am

Would there be as many fans if Penn State football takes a dive due to the departures of key players?

  94. (Jesse) James July 26, 2012 8:16 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!!

Aiyaah is right for Colt…not good news….disappointing… 🙁

    Welcome to Mr. Ryan Hall….

Loved Coach Kaumeyer’s philosophy and the philosophy of the coaching staff that he presented on L and L last night. Gives me hope.

  95. BigWave96744 July 26, 2012 8:18 am

Nah.. no need on Kahuna, Priest, Pastor, Monk, Shamah, Obon-San, Rabbi, etc to remove any so called curse.

Each individual should pray for themselves, DAILY, for the decisions they will face.

What the team needs is a visit by family members of those killed by DUI people. They need to hear testimonies of ruined families. They need to see Hamburger movies of grotesque car crashes due to bad decisions.

    Curse??? Really???

  96. BigWave96744 July 26, 2012 8:20 am

HawaiiNewsNow’s Ramsey Warton said the dangerous drugs could either be Cocaine, Meth or Heroin.

    My best to Colt.

  98. Wes'side Warrior July 26, 2012 8:30 am

But BigWave… we not talking only about (suspected) DUI’s… but just overall bad energy. Bad luck with the Stevie Wonder stuff. Bad luck with the fire that destroyed the files building. Bad luck with the costly design for Wahine softball. The list goes on. Just plain bad luck.

  99. RedZone July 26, 2012 8:33 am

Way too much drama this summer.

  103. 808lvr July 26, 2012 8:39 am

lol @ Colt. Everyone put him up on a pedestal when all along he’s been a shady, snake-like person. Kinda puts the whole “I forgot why I was in that coeds room” and “I don’t remember why we crashed into Theresa Wang” all into perspective.

  104. Bigislandkurt July 26, 2012 8:40 am

Sheesh. No curse. Just bad decisions.

And even worse, GETTING CAUGHT making bad decisions.

    BIK

  105. papajoe2 July 26, 2012 8:41 am

Wow, all this bad news is depressing. In a few weeks, when the much anticipated football season starts, all will be pushed aside. I will forget anyway because I have magnesia. 😮

  106. Shoko July 26, 2012 8:43 am

I know we’re not in the WAC anymore, but I thought some might be interested on the WAC Media polls that came out…or not.

    Coaches poll:

    1. Louisiana Tech (6) 36

    2. Utah State (1) 31

    3. San Jose State 24

    4. New Mexico State 22

    5. Idaho 17

    6. Texas State 10

    7. Texas-San Antonio 7

    Media poll:

    1. Louisiana Tech (25) 193

    2. Utah State (3) 164

    3. San Jose State 130

    4. Idaho 102

    6. Texas State 57

    7. Texas-San Antonio 43

  107. Nobody July 26, 2012 8:47 am

Punter is fighting for an NFL career. Maybe by the lawyer doing this it gives Coach Chow an out to play him. After all, they don’t have a punter nor will get one of his talents. Its good for the Dunnachie and also good for the team. Never under estimate what goes on behind closed doors.

  110. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 8:59 am

Whitney Houston got plenty plenty breaks from those who looked up to her, recounted her good deeds in their lives. I’m one of them. the worst part is that well wishers, like me who covered for her, in the end look at themselves as enablers. count me in that group too.

so i say in all sincerity to CB, you can only look to yourself for hope and hope.

you can CB. yes you can!

  111. Buffoman July 26, 2012 9:12 am

#107 If that is the case, that a deal is being done behind closed doors where rules for one are different for other based on need and not on morals and overall ethic, then we’re back to where all bad things start.

The guy broke a rule set by the coach. If that cannot stand up because the individual is counting on a career and the team needs a punter and an exception is made behind closed doors, that would not say much about the coach and UH.

  114. Graham July 26, 2012 9:13 am

Really a sad story about Colt. He went from a projected 1roind pick to getting cut in the CFL. And after the car crash and now this DUI and drug bust. The state of Hawaii should always be grateful of him for coming back senior year because if he didn’t he probably would have been 1round pick because mike Martz would not have coached in the senior bowl. Really hoping for the best for colt

  115. Slugger July 26, 2012 9:20 am

    Hi, gang!

    Welcome Ryan Hall.

Colt, start praying, stop playing. 🙁

    Night all.

  116. Derek July 26, 2012 9:20 am

Colt needs to start manning up and make a difference in a positive way. Whether it is here or on the mainland. He’s such an engaging person that he can effect people. Stop trying to play football anymore and begin a new chapter such as being a teacher and coaching on the side. This is not the end for Colt Brennan. At his young age it is just the beginning.

  117. jimmy the lock July 26, 2012 9:22 am

    @protector

What you talking about that Penn St. never had the cachet of USC or Alabama? In the previous years they ranked third, behind Texas (#1) and Notre Dame (#2) in team value. Sure they’ll take a big hit in years to come but they will still have their following.

    I’d schedule them anytime.

  118. papajoe2 July 26, 2012 9:23 am

I hope that the Olympics will take away some of the negative distractions. Unfortunately, it takes place in London where prime time is around 11 pm to 3am here. I like to watch all kinds of sports in the Olympics, but the time difference will make it hard for us in Hawaii. Did you know that Olympic soccer already started? Women games yesterday, including the U.S., were at 3 am. Men’s games today were at 1 am. I realize that they will tape delay most of the events, but nothing like seeing it live. Now I only hope that England has enough security so nothing like terrorist attacks happen. These games are supposed to bring the world together in peace. I pray it does.

  119. jimmy the lock July 26, 2012 9:25 am

Colt has a way of staying in the news.

    When all else fails, punt.

  120. jimmy the lock July 26, 2012 9:29 am

    We need some positive distractions.

    How’s this, Hawaiian Plate!

  121. papajoe2 July 26, 2012 9:30 am

I wonder if CB was like that all the time which is why he couldn’t make it in the NFL or CFL. Those leagues investigate all players that represent them and maybe they knew something that the average fan in Hawaii didn’t know about. Sure some players slip through the cracks, but they do investigate beforehand. I hope not for Colt’s sake. Still pulling for him though.

  122. tommui July 26, 2012 9:37 am

Buffoman #111 – you said it all!

  123. Shoko July 26, 2012 9:47 am

Well, this might be the best thing to happen to Colt. Sometimes hitting rock bottom causes a person to re-evaluate one’s goals and ambitions in life. Getting help through faith, therapy or support from family and friends can get you back on the right path.

Let’s hope this is rock bottom for Colt.

On another note, I’m going out on a limb and say Boise State and San Diego State will eventually come back to the MWC. Once they get that sour taste of having to travel so far for conference games, they’ll realize they made a mistake.

  124. Shoko July 26, 2012 9:49 am

Michigan State favored by 7.5 points. I think the Spartans will cover.

  125. papajoe2 July 26, 2012 9:52 am

Changing the tune. I heard this yesterday.

Hawaiian guy owns a chicken and lets it run around in his yard. Every morning he wakes up, and goes outside to look for an egg or eggs laid by his chicken and makes himself breakfast with the eggs. One morning he was looking for eggs but couldn’t find any. He thought this was strange until he saw one in his neighbor’s yard. He hopped over the little fence seperating the yards and was ready to pick up the egg when his neighbor, a huge guy from Texas, sees him and yells “LEAVE THAT EGG ALONE.” The Hawaiian, not wanting to get into a fight with the huge man says, “but sir, this egg is from my chicken and I pick up the eggs every morning for my breadfast.” The Texan then says, “the egg was in my yard so it’s mine, unless you want to do something about it.” The Hawaiian then says “we could settle this like we do here in Hawaii. We each kick each other in the nuts and the one that takes the shortest time to stand up is the winner of the dispute.” The Texan looks at the Hawaiian’s barefeet with slippers, then looks at his shiny, pointed boots, covered with rinestones and trinkets, and immediately says “wel,l lets get it on.” The Hawaiian then takes a mighty swing with his luau feet, right in the Texan’s balls. The Texan lifts up about a foot from the blow, and yells out in pain before crumpling to the ground. While moaning, and holding his balls, he struggles to get up and finally makes it to his feet. He checks his watch and yells out “30 seconds, yeah! Now it’s my turn.” The Hawaiian turns and starts to walk away, then tells the Texan. “ah, just keep the egg.”

Cunney is saying that the student athlete’s code of conduct states that a student-athlete must be suspended within 72 hours of the infraction. But if being arrested is “in violation of a team rule” does that fall outside of the COC?

And on a positive note, Wahine bb got a big post player and a point guard. Just what they needed…

    UH wahine basketball recruits announced

    By Ferd Lewis

    POSTED: 10:42 a.m. HST, Jul 26, 2012

The University of Hawaii announced the signing of a forward and point guard as final two players from this year’s recruiting class for women’s basketball. Their signings give new coach Laura Beeman seven newcomers — four freshmen and three transfers. The latest signees are freshmen Marissa Wimbley and Brianna Higgins. UH said Higgins is a 6-foot, 1-inch post player from Foothill High School in Henderson, Nev. Last year she averaged 13.7 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Wimbley, a 5-foot, 6-inch point guard from Elk Grove, Calif., averaged 14.8 points, 3.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game.

  135. shadow July 26, 2012 10:37 am

Plain & simple: UH punter wants to play THIS season. Gets lawyer to TRY to make this happen. Lawyer wants to meet w/ UH to get punter what he wants. Lawyer & UH meet, student & team rules made more clear. If Punter found guilty, UH holds the line & Punter can either take it or leave it (minus any money he gave to lawyer).

  143. hawaii'biship July 26, 2012 11:06 am

Ok, so what excuses for Colt are we all going to come up with now to defend him? First he was drunk during the coed situation in Colorado (so it wasn’t his fault), then there was conspiracies and people holding him back in the NFL and CFL to explain is failures there, and then his Poor-Colt-doesn’t-remember-what-happened when he almost killed Teresa Wang in that crash. So boys and girls, what now?

What’s up with folks so quick to chastise these days? Aloha has disappeared.

You know what? I’m glad HPD is doing their jobs and doing it well. If people get busted, and it sticks, then fine. But to run off without knowing what the real evidence is… without any due process having taken place? Bah. Wasting my time.

When folks get busted, they need help. Period. Those calling for a beheading… all angels? Fo’ realz? Neva ran a red light? Neva talk on da phone while driving? Neva get caught stealing da neighbor’s mangos, and den tried to act like nottin’ happened? Neva did anything illegal or immoral in your lives? You all Mother Theresas or Father Damiens now? The UH player and his lawyer – shades of 1991 (a little different situation) with Terry Whittaker (RIP) and local attorney David Shutter. That, with the Jamal Farmer drama, made for a season with so many distractions resulting in a losing record. Don’t like all of these distractions even before the first game of the season.

  169. Bowwar July 26, 2012 1:02 pm

Welcome to the new Wahine!! I hope Coach Beeman works with the point guard on significantly improving her assist average though. Any starting point guard who averages 3 assists or less has to be underachieving. Her stat-line looks good in terms of being a rebounder, an aggressive defender and decent scorer. Getting teammates involved is paramount to effectively running the floor.

  175. jimmy the lock July 26, 2012 1:20 pm

    again @protector

Have you seen this recruit play? She could be excellent at dishing the ball but it’s up to the teammate to put the ball in the basket. Hold off on your assessment until she steps on the floor and we see her play.

  176. RedZone July 26, 2012 1:22 pm

Coach Beeman was an All-American point guard.

  177. RedZone July 26, 2012 1:25 pm

  183. Kevin July 26, 2012 1:40 pm

    RE: PPV settled?

I dunno what you guys mean by “settled”, but ST’s article today states:

UH’s pay-per-view money is now deposited into the MWC’s pool of television revenue, which is then distributed to the MWC members

So I guess it is settled. Its settled that the monies UH fans pay for PPV will go out to other MWC schools, except for SDSU and BSU.

  184. Kevin July 26, 2012 1:42 pm

Its one thing when people cite rumblings of alleged “closed door discussions” about who’s starting or whatever and why so and so is starting over so and so. (this one is my favorite to read because thats when you can see the biases of the accusors 😆 😆 😆 )

BUT… its another when people cite cover-ups of criminal acts.

    Just saying.

And a bit sadder to see Colt’s arrest. Colt proved himself and his aloha for Hawaii so he will always be a hero in my eyes. But this is not a good thing for his life.

    #150. – hawaii’biship –

I know that, but rumors were Colt and Shatki were not of “right mind” and were fighting in the car leading to the accident, the convienient “I don’t remember” excuse didnt’ fly with me or many others. If you want to give Colt the benefit of the doubt over and over and over again, feel free. But this bruddah has stopped pedestalizing him a long time ago.

hawaii’biship, have you ever been in a real bad accident? Well I have 15 years ago and till this day I still do not remember it all, I can remember things maybe a few mins before and then nothing until waking up in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. So I am not saying he is lying like you are I am saying that it does happen. Also there was no witness’s to the accident so how does anyone know that they were arguing ?

  193. tommui July 26, 2012 2:11 pm

BHF2 #70 I happen to remember the Kernan v. Tanaka case, the police could order the driver to exit the vehicle if they reasonably believe a crime has been committed – which would include DUI type cases.

  217. kev-1 July 26, 2012 3:14 pm

I have been the biggest Colt fan from day one. I have always said “he can” when haters said “no can.” I have also known of some of his “recreational” activities too, but have never thought of it as more than my own experiences when I was young.

Whatever this is, whether a simple on the way home from a night of partying gone bad, or braddah has hit rock bottom, I don’t know. I think it is pretty lawyer-like though for his attorney to claim his behavior is a result of his accident trauma.

As much as I love the guy, I have always thought coming back to Hawaii was bad for his career. Since college, nothing but bad things for him here. He should have stayed on the mainland and trained . . . and nothing else. Instead, he would come here often and slack off, party, and of course . . . the accident. It is hard for me to say this, but I am starting to feel like Colt has never truly invested in what it takes to make it at the next level.

At this point, I hope he gets his legal troubles resolved and his life in order.

    I’m sad today.

  229. Kevin July 26, 2012 4:00 pm

Taking a page out of Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy…

Symbols and ideas are much more everlasting than solitary individuals.

Colt Brennan’s story was one of overcoming past indiscretions and making something out of yourself. Placing this recent incident aside, that concept remains true. With Brennan? Only time will tell.

The point is, the people fell in love with the man and I too once stood in line for two hours to obtain an autograph (something I never did with anyone else) of his. However, it is his story and the idea of overcoming past mistakes to become a contributor to society and an overall good person.

To allow this recent incident to overshadow hope that people can make something out of themselves is criminal. It’s the real injustice to an ideal of hope, an idea that we can overcome our own shortcomings.

We cannot get too wrapped up in what happens to an individual.

Individuals make mistakes. Individuals can disappoint us. All won’t, but some will.

Beliefs, ideas, and symbols are ever-lasting.

  230. Garret July 26, 2012 4:15 pm

So sad to hear about Colt…

  231. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 4:16 pm

    On a bright note:

welcome to Warrior Nation, Mr. Ryan Hall. Good job, Punahou. Good job. 😆

  232. Garret July 26, 2012 4:19 pm

Travel subsidies if 2 schools are in each geographical category:

    $150k x 2 + $175k x 2 = $650k

PPV money to UH: $2.5 mil (some years $2.7 mil or $2.8 mil)

So, the MWC takes the $2.5 mil and then tells UH they *might* give UH some of the $650k back…how is UH coming out ahead there?

Note that the MWC says that UH will get more money back to compensate for travel subsidies…of course UH will! The MWC will split UH’s $2.5 mil among all schools, so UH will get 1/9 or 1/10 of its $2.5 mil. So, UH will get $250k or so back because of PPV as their natural share of TV money…and the MWC will call that “giving back” some of UH’s money.

Or am I reading this wrong?

  233. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 4:21 pm

Colt Brennan needs a George Clooney Fixer kinda guy in his life. not a DUI guy. not a criminal defense guy. not a drug guy. someone who has the pedigree, someone he can look up to and who has the skill set to reset the man. get guys like that who Cal Lee knows, who Coach Chow knows. McCorriston. Ray Tam.

but first, CB gotta say to himself… ok… I’m at rock bottom… and believe it. everyday.

  234. Garret July 26, 2012 4:22 pm

The MWC needs more TV revenue because the MWC’s TV deal went down $4 mil because the mtn ended. So, CUSA gets $4 mil more in TV than the MWC, since they already that their local TV rights also. This article says that the money is being made up because the MWC will get $4 mil extra in basketball money…but UH doesn’t get any of that!

The total revenue of $23.3 million is expected to remain the same in 2012-13 despite the loss of $4 million in TV revenue because The Mtn. was shut down. Money from the NCAA basketball tournament will make up the difference.

    http://voices.idahostatesman.com/2012/07/25/ccripe/boise_state_will_forfeit_23_million_mountain_west_revenue_blueon

  235. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 4:23 pm

i think it was Slugger who said it right a little earlier.

more praying. cut out the playing.

  236. Garret July 26, 2012 4:25 pm

The MWC was willing to let BSU wear their blue uniforms if BSU stayed?

The MWC was willing to give BSU more than an equal share of conference revenue? The funny thing is that *UH* would have gotten *more* money under this rule…so, UH won’t get that extra money since the rule didn’t go into effect.

<blockquote. The Mountain West rule prohibiting Boise State from wearing all-blue uniforms on the blue turf would have been rescinded if the Broncos had decided to stay in the conference, Thompson said (if Boise State breaks the rule, the league board of directors would tackle the issue, with a fine possible).

The largest piece of the Mountain West’s pitch was to subject half of the conference’s BCS distribution to a performance-based distribution. Teams with BCS Top 25 finishes would have gotten larger shares, with Boise State getting the most and Nevada and Hawaii getting a bump.

  237. Garret July 26, 2012 4:26 pm

I wish the MWC could have made a rule that teams leaving don’t get the travel subsidy. Teams leaving don’t get any conference revenue, so why should they get UH’s money?

Hawaii will pay Boise State a $175,000 travel subsidy for this year’s game as part of the Warriors’ membership agreement with the conference.

  238. madeinhawaii July 26, 2012 4:31 pm

UH should adamantly refuse to share its PPV monies.. I’d rather see them give up PPV than allow the MWC to take that money.

  246. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 5:09 pm

itsa these kinda things that keep da coaches in tippy top shape.

    and the adrenalin flowing.

plus now, there is the outside distraction. and the distraction is stuck in Honolulu. The bail. The court system. The probation system. The no leaving the aina until your probation officer gives the okay. The likely involvement in the drug court system.

yep, CB is gonna be a system QB for sure. i say these things because the situation can actually turn out to be a blessing of sorts. for example, i know a mayor who was busted for felony marijuana charges, and he turns out okay. same can be said for CB, if he allows his life to change from player to prayer.

    Good luck CB.

I been gullible plenty times. Plenty. i might believe you. but i’m not sure.

we can all second guess how weeda done things in hindsight.

I’m giving JD the benefit of doubt. but truthfully i wuz disappointed that he cracked so easily. obviously he had not had survivor training in a torture/capture/prisoner of war setting. and obviously he never watched Sgt. Schultz, Hogan’s Heroes, too many times growing up. “I will say nothing. nuttin….” If they never like him say anything at all, that should have been made clear CLEAR before the press conference.

Personally, I think Ms. Greenwood is all professional, but her issue is not only with JD, but also with Ms. Hinshaw. And if she’s gonna run things her way, then she’s gotta sit down with JD and explain to him how her boat is gonna sail. Professional. Good luck, JD.

Revised prognostication on da CB case.

according to Kanoa Leahey tonight news, CB was not arrested, but case is pending investigaton. so there is no bail, and he’s not on travel restriction, and he’s not in the DUI or felony system. yet. could be. could be not. maybe never. maybe a deal can be made before his case gets into any legal system. now it will be up to the prosecutor. and the defense attorney.

but ultimately, this case is about CB. and CB’s future.

  258. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 6:59 pm

MIH is this what you’re refering to?

Paul Cunney claims the university missed a 72-hour window to impose the discipline

    By Ferd Lewis

The attorney for punter Alex Dunnachie said the University of Hawaii wants his client to sit out this season and he is contesting the school’s authority to suspend him.

I would hope that the coach could come up with creative ways (other than a suspension)

    to discipline him.

Dunnachie has not been suspended for his July 7 arrest on a DUI allegation, but attorney Paul Cunney said in a letter to UH interim athletic director Rockne Freitas, “I am requesting a meeting with you as soon as possible to prevent Coach (Norm) Chow from suspending Alex Dunnachie after he appears in Honolulu District Court on Friday Aug. 3, which would violate the code of conduct of the student athlete.”

The attorney for punter Alex Dunnachie said the University of Hawaii wants his client to sit out this season and he is contesting the school’s authority to suspend him. Paul Cunney: “I would hope that the coach could come up with creative ways (other than a suspension) to discipline him.”

Like ST said #2 above, the cart before the horse.

  272. BigHiloFan2 July 26, 2012 7:59 pm

ok, Coach must be back in town by now.

I think its a good idea for UH Football for Coach to by charitable, hands out to Cunney, and maybe share what he’s got in mind. give Cunney and Dunnachie a heads up.

for me, time for Dunnachie to consider plans B and C. sit out a year, come back and play next year. or send out feelers to DII schools where he can play now.

somebody gotta explain to Dunnachie the situation. Its like this. He got shot. Plain and simple. He got shot. He gotta work on his PR. make for a positive statement so he does not diminish his chances for the next level. there are ways for him to man up. first thing he gotta do, is look coach in the eye again.

somebody gotta explain to him, the HPD shot him. plain and simple.

As Stephanie Lum read from the telepromopter:

“Its a fall from grace from a man once so beloved in Hawaii” … – referring to Colt Brennan’s arrest.

“Once so beloved”? What does this imply? He’s hated? He’s a social cancer? What?

No. I know exactly what it implies and the media sure as hell won’t dictate my own thoughts and they sure as hell don’t dictate or represent what many others think.

    Nice try.

I think this website holds some really wonderful info for everyone : D.

Colt will always have a special place in University of Hawaii History…He turned down possibly millions of dollars to come back and represent a state he isn’t even from…it’s kinda sad when he’s at his lowest people wanna take pot shots at him instead of offering words of encouragement…I will forever be supportive of Colt Brennan through the good times and even through what’s happening now…

…AND DON’T FORGET THE MOST RECENT PSU RECORD THAT IS GREATER THAN ALL THOSE PREVIOUS ONES PUT TOGETHER: NUMBER OF YEARS OF THE PEDOFILE COVER-UP, NOT TO MENTION ITS PROFOUND EVERLASTING EFFECT ON THE VICTIMS.

RE: 6′ 6″ PUNTER…PROBABLY NOT THE TYPE TO “MAN UP”, OR SCRAP WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER; MOST LIKELY A MAMA’S BOY WHO RAN HOME CRYING WHEN SOMEONE STOLE HIS MARBLES WHEN HE WAS A KID. SEE IF YOU KETCH A 6-3/6-5 LOCAL BOY TRYING TO BE A PUNTER…NO WAY. THE ATTORNEY IS DUNACHE’S LATEST MAMA.

it could very well be that a young man goes to see an atty who specializes in dui cases…

…he is worried about his future and how he messed up bigtime. life has taken an awful turn for him. anxiety and panic sets in.

the atty tells him to fight for his “rights”, “i’ll help you.”

hah. billable hours as one counselor so stated earlier.

maybe he needs to publicly apologize to the team and his coach. the nfl will frown upon his most recent actions if he doesn’t make “pono”. he’ll be viewed as one with a sketchy attitude and a social risk. the latter, a very huge thing in pro sports these days where image is important.

maybe he should have asked to take a redshirt year as his penance. shag balls in practice for a year, perform triple the number of volunteer hours at madd or other related organizations. take care of business, get his degree, and the like. become a role model/citizen during his hiatus.

come back for his final year of eligibility all “clean shaven” and all. the nfl would await in open arms then as well as his team and this state.

    …nuff said.

hey bhf2…sorry i missed your tag earlier. was busy…er, taking a nap. spent the day in “no ka oi” land.

met up with the duffer at jack’s (whitey’s breakfast of the champions joint). whitey-san was out chasing the little white ball today as thursdays are his “game day”.

gotta love these car rental places when you pay for a compact and they loan you a dodge challenger fully loaded and with hemi under the hood. was tempted to drive to hana just for the heck of it.

gotta love maui…they still abuzz about victorino and suzuki every where you go.
