Warrior Bowl
Spring training wraps up with tonight’s Warrior Bowl at Ching field.
The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. It will feature a scripted offense-versus-defense scrimmage of about 80 plays.
This will be another important opportunity for offfensive linemen Chris Posa, JR Hensley, Matt Norman, Kingjames Taylor and Austin Webb to get reps. The competition will intensify this summer. Left tackle Dejon Allen has not practiced in nearly two weeks while rehabbing an ankle injury. Elijah Tupai and Eperone Moananu did not practice this spring while recovering from injuries. UH also is bringing in three offensive linemen in June. There also should be a decision on Fred Ulu-Perry, who did not participate in spring ball because of medical and personal issues.
Cole Brownholtz and Cole McDonald are expected to get most of the snaps, as they did at Saturday’s Festivus, in the competition for the quarterback’s spot behind Dru Brown. Ryan Tuiasoa has practiced as the No. 2 back behind Diocemy Saint Juste. The Warriors probably will continue the strategy of rotating three backs in a game.
Jahlani Tavai and Malachi Mageo are the top two linebackers. But Russell Williams Jr. Danny Mulanga, Jeremiah Pritchard, Ikem Okeke and Solomon Matautia have had strong springs. With Paul Scott joining this summer, this might be the Warriors’ deepest unit.
First…
Can’t wait for the season to start!

Hope all is well w/Fred Ulu-Perry
LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS !!!!!
Herd Fred Ulu-Perry not coming back he hangs out a lot with jordan agasiva does not look good.
Anxious to attend tonight’s scrimmage. Appreciate the OL updates. For sure, Ryan Tuiasoa has been the surprise on offense.
Is there a chance the game will be streamed tonight?
Howzit Tsaikos!
ST, you need to close yesterday’s post and direct Tsaikos to this one.
Hope everyone stays healthy during tonight’s scrimmage.
Just returned from the fb practice (yep, I left early, about 8pm). I took the wrong glasses so I couldn’t see very well, but it seemed the defense was dominating while I was there. Looking forward to the season with everybody on board!!
any more reports of the Warrior Bowl from anyone? ST: appreciate the updates; great work; they should double your salary!
Tonight, I watched part of the 80 play scrimmage. But, I left a little early about 8:15 pm. The defense looked good.
As for the punting and place kicking, I hope they bring in another punter and a place kicker to create competition. The team will sure miss Rigo Sanchez this upcoming season. Maybe they could try some rugby style punts just like how Scott Harding use to do it.
It looks like DB is ahead of the two Cole’s. In a year or two, I hope one of them takes a giant leap and gives DB some serious competition at QB.
I too left early. Was too cold for me without jacket. The offense (1s) is good with Dru at QB. Ryan Tuiasoa is as advertised. Looks like Cole McDonald is separating himself from Brownholtz. Well, tonight anyway. Someone has to explain the defensive scheme because I don’t understand it. They showed a good pass rush and I thought the secondary played well.
It was a fast pace scrimmage with almost non stop plays. Some 1s, 2s, 3s rotation. It was fun. Cant wait for august. Go Warriors!!
I was hoping our own Kifi was there to watch the scrimmage—specifically, I wanted to hear what he has to say about the young tackles—first step, their slide, and if they got a good punch…..Kifi, Hawaiian you out there????
Morning Tsaikos!
Saw highlights of the scrimmage on the news last night. Good to see the players are working hard but also having fun.
Also, good grind out win for the Warrior baseball team. Hey ST, you had a pinch hitter. Glad to hear you didn’t have to run back and forth between the two venues.
GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!
re: 14 Boolakanaka
Always trust Kifi’s observations – hope he comments.
Sat next to former UH basketball player, Rod Eldridge (1973-75). Was nice to meet a former player and reminisce a bit about the old days.
don’t forget penei pavihi.
