Walk this way

For most teams, Football Fridays usually are quasi rest days in which physical activities are limited to walk-through sessions at the game’s stadium.

What started as a change-of-pace and now will become a tradition, the Rainbow Warriors will have a 40-minute, limited-contact practice on Ching field today. The first play is at 6 p.m. — the scheduled kickoff time for tomorrow’s game.

The practice will enable the Warriors to finalize plays, install some new ones, and, in general, provide more thorough preparation.

After that, 64 players — the usual size for a travel roster — will dine at KCC, then check into a hotel for meetings and video sessions.

Tomorrow, about a dozen non-hotel players will suit up for the game. Most of the dozen are scout players who have a chance to play.

    10. I think Hawaii can win by 10 but I think there will be a lot more scoring in that game…

  16. jeezy33 October 4, 2013 8:59 am

Also note that no one has seen Hawaii play with a lead in the 2nd half this year so play calling on D could possibly be different and opposing offense play calling will probably air it out more if trailing..

  17. Kekoa October 4, 2013 9:03 am

    Aloha Friday! ~

Checklist for tomorrow’s game should be formulated today. Time for each player to review their individual mission, and focus on team work. Getting that mindset put in place and running the important mental checklist over and over again will help. Execution to perfection the ultimate goal. It’s time to put a ‘W’ in the books.

    Go Warriors!

    Howzit Gang!

Well.. wish I could “walk this way”. Still limping badly. As much as I’d like to make it to the game and T-gate, I just don’t think I can handle that much walking at the moment. Pretty frustrated that my foot/ankle is still swollen, although the xrays have shown no major damage requiring surgery.

My son has to be at UH’s taro patch tomorrow morning at 8am. I’m not driving to and from, only to repeat it around noon. So, if any of you wander out to Manoa early, you may find me at either the farm area, or at Campus Center.

My younger kids have read enough to earn a free sundae at Farrells, so I’m bringing them to Pearl Ridge today after school. Will probably be there between 3:30-5pm or so.

See you if we see you!

Game Day Eve! Let’s go, Warriorz!!! Get that “W”!!!

  21. Wes'side Warrior October 4, 2013 9:56 am

Cuz it wouldn’t be a list. It’s a flat fee of $5 for the lower Halawa Lot and Kam Lot.

The upper lot (inner circle) is all reserved for pass holders.

Adding to my wish list — winning enough money to pay for the meals and hotel stay for the scout team … they deserve it.

  37. A-House October 4, 2013 11:12 am

With finances to tight, is it still a good idea to spend one night at a hotel?

Can the $$$ be better used by UHAD?

  38. Eastcoast Warriorfan October 4, 2013 11:15 am

Hopefully we come out with a statement tomorrow night, i’d love it if our boys put on a winning streak and salvage the year.

  39. tom mui October 4, 2013 11:39 am

    #37 A-House

Just guessing but I would imagine it is to isolate the players from their usual routine and make sure they are not fussing off at their dorm/house/apartment.

Also make sure they are at the meetings and what-not and treating it as a business trip. Also the meeting place at the hotel is probably big enough to accommodate the whole team.

On the other hand, to save $$, but to isolate them, may the Kobayashi Hotel – assuming it is still in business!

  55. Buffoman October 4, 2013 2:58 pm

Has there been a defensively linenan since Niko and then Al Noga who have been so feared by UH opponents as a disruptive force that teams prepared schemes to account for them?

I cannot recall aside from Laboy but he was hurt and was more of a rush end.

I may be beating a dead horse but those guys were like offensive weapons on defense.

Maybe Kennedy could be that kind of player in time.

  57. Old School Dave October 4, 2013 3:03 pm

While I don’t like BYU, you have to admire the play of linebacker Kyle Van Noy. He’s definitely an NFL quality player. Also, watching the UCLA – Utah game last night, that Bruin true freshman linebacker, Myles Jack was very impressive.

  58. jimmy the lock October 4, 2013 3:04 pm

jtl , only for the first 24-48 hours to decrease any more blood flow to the injured area, then warm compress to open the blood vessels to decrease the swelling.

  61. jimmy the lock October 4, 2013 3:20 pm

Ice can be used for chronic swelling also. Heat applied to an inflamed area is not recommended.

  69. Former UH Athlete October 4, 2013 4:43 pm

BYU is smashing Utah St in Logan.

Statistically, Utah St not doing bad, but 2 turnovers and Keeton has been inefficient passing. Van Noy is eating up the Utah St line alive.

Looks like a talent mismatch from the bits and pieces I’ve watched so far.

  70. Former UH Athlete October 4, 2013 4:47 pm

SDSU is leading Nevada 23-17 at the half.

Fajardo is back and carrying the offense… surprisingly, the Nevada rushing game has been stuffed. And yes, Nevada’s defense is bad… 302 yards surrendered in first half to an SDSU offense that’s been completely inept all season.

  71. A-joe October 4, 2013 4:48 pm

Solid Mo808!!! I like your positive enthusiasm!

“Be All The Fan You Can Be!!” UHfan808 rockin’ da Army jingle!

  72. Former UH Athlete October 4, 2013 4:50 pm

Nevada surrendered 9 points in the last 46 seconds of the half. Gave up a safety as the punter dropped the snap and then after the free kick, SDSU went 65 yards for TD in 37 seconds to end half. Terrible execution and defensive playcalling by Nevada.

Had a private tour of the George W and Laura Bush library today. It was very moving. There is a transition from President to Private Citizen that was so interesting. My husband asked if I could have my pic taken on the SMU field. They were very acocmodating. Why? When they heard I was a Hawaii fan and from Hawaii they were very accomadating. Beautiful field and football facilities. They were so nice to wish us good luck against SJ tomorrow.

Go Warriors! Lets WIN big tomorrow.

  77. Wes'side Warrior October 4, 2013 7:06 pm

    Howzit, HiFlyer!

Mahalo! Yup, doctor said only use ice the first 24-36 hours, followed by warm/hot water soak, preferably with salt in it to bring the swelling down… up to 3x daily.

d1… I’m sure there are other ways to reduce the swelling… hahaha!

  78. gobows October 4, 2013 7:09 pm

    wahine sweep them beaches 25-11,21,16.

    emily hartong 14k-11d, .414

  79. Former UH Athlete October 4, 2013 7:09 pm

Frickin Nevada… After a furious comeback, they completely fizzle in OT and lose by 7. SDSU had ball first and easily scored a TD, then Nevada goes: false start, short run, incomplete, incomplete, incomplete… Game over and fail to cover.

    Season tally now at 14-8

  80. gobows October 4, 2013 7:13 pm

    wahine hit .310
    lbsu .079

  81. Former UH Athlete October 4, 2013 7:14 pm

Utah St QB Keeton went down with a knee injury in first quarter. That explains the erratic passing game by the Aggies.

Utah St somehow allowed T. Hill to throw 3 TDs… Hill is a fantastic runner but an awful thrower. Like Mr Tebow and Taylor Martinez (Nebraska).

  82. Former UH Athlete October 4, 2013 7:22 pm

Going into tonight’s game, Taysom Hill was 54 of 133 (40.6%) for 741yds (5.6ypa) for the season with only 1 TD and 4 INTs…. After tonight, he’s got 4 TDs and 5 INTs.

Yeah, he’s pretty one dimensional. BYU is going to lose vs teams with athletic defenses and a halfway competent defensive coordinators who know how to gameplan vs running QBs. Look for BYU to get smashed by Boise St and Wisconsin later this year as they will force Hill to beat them with his arm. Peterson is a superior coach and Gary Anderson (formerly Utah St now Wisconsin) knows BYU’s personnel very well.

  83. oldtimer808 October 4, 2013 8:01 pm
