WOW!!!
Jenna Rodriguez blasts a walk-off, two-run homer to send the Rainbow Wahine to the College World Series.
Sixteen of the Rainbows’ 20 outs were strikeouts. But then Rodriguez drives a pitch just barely fair in left, driving in Kelly Majam, to deliver the 5-4 victory over top-ranked Alabama.
And the Rainbow baseball team beats Fresno State to win the WAC Tournament and advance to the Regionals. I think Coach Trapasso has just earned himself a multi-year contract.
* * * * *
Again, credit goes to UH media relations director Kara Nishimura, whose winning call on the coin flip — tails — enabled the Rainbow Wahine to be the home team today.

The game will still be on ESPN @ 7AM Hawaii time right?

Parnaby – Good inning. 4 up, 3 down, no damage. 🙂
With technical difficulties – ESPN3 just showed up! 😀

Unlike yesterday’s ESPNU which I got through JTV, today’s one on ESPN3 I cannot get. It said It requires a compatible carrier where I live. God, here is the number one team in the tournament in Bama and the game is relegated to ESPN3?

I guess Ricketts was so sick yesterday she was puking near the team van.

Jazlyn is a cool name.
Does Jess’ throws often veer towards the outfield? Is that because AJ is a lefty? 😐
Jazzeline – sounds like some sort of cosmetic product! 🙂
Anyone else think those faces on the outfield wall are unnerving?
Tech Difficulties cleared, GAME ON! (ESPN).

Poor neighbors…. 😥
(That’s all the time…. 😀
Two things I did not know:
PP lives in a condo.
Condos have quiet time.
Let’s go Katie!!! 😀
~•~~~~•~~~~•~ ❀ ❀ ❀ Aloha Y’all!!! ❀ ❀ ❀ ~•~~~~•~~~~•~
How did the announcer turn Tampa into a three-syllable word?
…………….
Condos have quiet time.Depends on the neighbors… 🙄It’s going to be a high scoring affair. Ladies need to continue to put runs on the board.
The way these 2 announcers are talking, the NCAA better but a * next to the season HR record since our field is smaller and we play at altitude.
Two poor AB’s for Jess…. 😥
There’s the MONKEY! 😆
Good morning Tsaikos … Go Wahine!!!
What’s going this on with the “short field” thing … the mentioned it 3 times already …
Does anyone else notice a little Alabama *Crow-hop” goin’ on, or is the video feed a little jumpy?
Keep throwing dem strikes Kaia!!! 🙂 😀 😆
Yeah, before 8 a.m., you’re not suppose to make loud noises or run your clothes dryer. Now, did I hear the announcer ladies say something about the Wahines’ homeruns this year being on a “shorter” field? Whatever…c’mon ladies! Let’s go!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ROUTINE FLYBALL!! no get excited, the field is not as short as UH so hard for hit homeruns… for Alabama!!
You gotta believe!!!
I belived!!!
Weather Report – looks like strong TS band North in Birmingham, and lots blooming South around Mobile. Clear for now. 🙂
TV sound goes off 1420 on …
This is weird, watching the game on tv and listening to the radio the live tv is delayed. I hear what happens before it show on the tv.
Go Kaia!!!
Funny how PP picked up on the “shorter” remark 😆
I love how they just conjure up their own stats: 85 percent of the NCAA softball pitchers are righty?
Uh, survey says …
Dat Kayla – she’s one Braud! 😀
Feel the MANA!
Great fielding … yeah Kaia … you go baby!!! Yeaaaaa !!! 3 down …
TIMBER!!! 3up, TREE DOWN!!! 😀
Nice play to end the inning.
Alright Amanda.
Time-out – Need MORE KOPE!!! 😆
3 up 3 down
announcer said the wahine are feeling the mana
great announcer
top of the fourth, UH 3-0
mana=power
go wahine
What’s up this this strike zone … call it 2 ways blue …
build on that lead, one hit at a time…..here we go!!!!
Mana?! Did the ESPN announcer just say that Hawaii is starting to feel the mana?!
Love it!
They are also givin more respect to Hawaii’s power today too!
whoops bottom of third
watch out for that riser …
Let’s go MiGi!!! 😆
eh
wea is my buddy, phil…..phillip enos….time we go grab da boat, da wife wen go give me da green light for go fishing…….da water is good right now….we can go trolling right afta da game………auryte
Duh Comment No. 1: Riseballs tend to go up.
Wow – kind of wide! 🙄
let’s go Wahine
cmon blue … how come looked low and outside
Yay Jenn!! 😀
go wahine!!!
cmon … looks outside … give us that corner blue
This ump calling those outside pitches too outside. 🙁
Oh no she didn’t! Can you believe that espn witch actually said that Alabama was responsible for letting the “weaker” team in? Tried to backpeddle by saying “I’m not saying Hawaii is weak…” Grrrr!!
Now I see what Kazz & many others have been saying about the despicable ingrained (and probably in-bred?) bias. Coudn’t gauge it cause my laptop’s been on the fritz.
How wide is that strike zone?!? 😯
Duh Comment No. 2: We’ll talk about how important first-pitch strikes are.
yeah protector … that’s why I turned off the TV sound
Announcer doesn’t know that our field is ‘shorter’ so Homey can feel the Mana!
…But then again…is 200 ft down the L & R field line considered short?
shadduuup, hit by pitch……
Duh Comment No. 3: If the pitches are in the strike zone they technically should be called strikes.
how many beans are they going to argue about … the bama coach argues strikes and balls too
protector – ESPN1420 is delayed, but a good alternative rather than angst! 😐
I think Brynne Buchanan’s Dad is in the black t-shirt, sunglasses, first row above the dugout, and Yoshikawa’s Dad & brother are there, too.
Kanani’s grandma is probably vocalizing her opinion.
Eye on the ball, Amanda!
female espn announcer is killing me…..everything has been done to help the offense, now we have to help the defense??? sheeeeeeeesh
You know…. “dim”, da DimWIts! 😈
if you look at the other regionals … they move into the ball … and the still get the base … what’s up with dat
Duh Comment No. 4: Taualii … Hawaiian name.
Amanda had some good cuts … no worry … they goin get to Dunne again sooon … just a matter of time …
Go Wahine!!!
they’re now saying that you should earn your runs, not just hitting it over the fence for runs. Tell that to Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron and all the other players who has hit a lot of homeruns.
Hump inning. This is the one.
#150 – No more 3200 fans dressed in Red, and #1 Ranked Team to influence you…. 😈
Go Kaia!!!
Top 4th 3 – 0 wahine
Yeaaaa … 1 down … cmon Kaia !!!
HR Alabama 3 -1 Wahine …
Dats OK … keep in the game … get tougher … more determned wahine!!!
I thought the announcers were going to greet Morgan at the plate after that homer.
2 down … dats it Kaia … keep tougher
Alabama’s home run shouldn’t count because it went over the fence and they didn’t earn it. hahahaha.
Check out the dark clouds coming in… Hope they hold. How many innings is a “official” game for softball?? 5??
Yea Kaia … stay tougher …
ST … TV announcers were already talking about power and a bid inning … shessshhh … maybe das bachi …
I’m pretty sure 153 homers is more than 103.
sorry … thats “big inning”
Re #159 – seeeeee, ST! I thought it was just me, but they really get animated for ‘Bama’s HRs. Ooooh, I hear Stretch yelling, ROUTINE…..
3 down … bottom 4th … wahine coming up … 3 – 1 Wahine …
ESPN announcers are absolutely
neuteredneutral!!! 😆I believe Kaia can do this … got stay tougher … I believe!!!!
Yep. Five is official.
I’m wondering if, say, it’s stopped because of rain. Would it resume at the point it was stopped or would it reset to 0-0 the next day?
so far its the wide strike zone that is hurting the UH batters
cmon Wahine … gotta answer … Go Wahine!!!
Wahine needs to answer.
So, Rodriguez didn’t hit a home run. Instead, Dunne allowed Rodriguez to hit one?
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the qualifications of the espn announcer are? After making an idiotic opinion about miss-hits (referring to UH, I guess) being cheap, unearned runs as opposed to powerful line-drive home-runs (like Alabama?). A perfect Bama cheerleader & apologist.
1 down … that’s OK … stay tougher
Five?😕
That’s it Traci …good swing …
2 down … good at bat … when for the change … but that’s because you nevah know what the ump is going to do …
The HR debate…AND the HBP plays. Isn’t it human nature to turn your back to something that’s coming toward you?
‘bama sure has some big/tall players…. 😐
What’s up with that … how come the ump telling Majam where her foot was …
I don’t think they would play a game tomorrow. The talk after the rainout was if no games are able to be played by Monday, the higher seed would move on. The World Series starts on Thursday so teams need time to get there and prepare.
good morning tsaiko’s and tsaikettes
good morning for softbal
these tv commentators got to give me a break
go wahines
I think this is the fifth inning – 3 outs and then it’s official…. right? 😯
how many batters begin the pitch with their foot outside the box??? Besides that … where is the line now???
Go Kaia!!! 50 pitches … 40 strikes according to 1420
lol at posters crying about the announcers
they are a lot better than bobby calling UH football
This umpire is catching some heat. She is making some bad calls both ways. IF Alabama loses, I am sure they are going to blame the umpire.
Weather radar shows it’s clear over Tuscaloosa – at least for next 1.5 hours (my guess). 🙂
single Alabama .. lead off runner gets on …
cmon Kaia … Stay tough … throw some off speed stuff
Wahine uniforms looking good. McMackin and others take note.
Brew…. Yes but… SSsshhhhhhhhhhhhh
conTrolls kill blogs. 😈
yeah Kaia …. strike out … 1 down … yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
2 down … check swing … out to Yoshikawa … Go Kaia!!!
Stretch – what? did I miss someone getting HBP? 😆
how come they talk positive about about what bama is doing right and then what hawaii does wrong
Yay Kaia!!! 😀
yea … 4 down … wahines coming up … bottom 5th … 3 – 1 Wahine
Alright Kaia! Come on Wahine, let’s get a few more.
We need some insurance runs! Anyone around here know about insurance!?! 🙄 😀 😆
Parnaby is doin’ awesome!
Koakane – it’s bama’s fault for swinging at balls out of the strike zone … no credit to Kaia for some great pitches … sheeesssshhhhhhh
bottom of 5th
3-1 UH
6 more outs to go
go wahine
~•~~~~•~~~~•~ ★ ★ ★ Let’s go WAHINE!!! ★ ★ ★ ~•~~~~•~~~~•~
Being in Alabama and they’re ranked #1, if there is a rain delay, the officials would wait until there is snow in hell to restart the game. 5th inning. now the game is official. hope we pull it out. GO WAHINE111
brew correctamundo about 5th inning
We ain’t done yet … Go Wahine!!!
good shot of the hawaii crowd
go wahines see ball hit ball
Whoah…. what were those boys doing? Kinda spooky fans in ‘bama! :shock;
Brew, I LOVEyour cheerful posts! I can almost hear them in the “quiet zone” this morning. Oh wait, not quiet time anymore. Wooo hooo, I can let loose now. C’mon Wahine!!!!
good thing the announcers don’t know the meaning of “bachi”!!
there they go saying weaker seeded win not bigger than missouri beating oregon
…weaker teams…. 🙄
★★Go•Wahine!!!★★Go•Wahine!!!★★Go•Wahine!!!★★Go•Wahine!!!★★
gotta stay away from those high balls
how come i don’t squeeze like this during the men’s baseball game? no knock on the baseball team it’s just the UH softbows games are sooooo exciting. at times i squeeze like this during football on certain plays, but during the whole game? sheeeesh.
single … go wahine …
au’wryte keep hitting focus focus focus
Base hit MiGi!!! Bring here home Jenna!!! 😀
her 😳
watch out for the riser …
#217 papajoe2 – Too MUCHO info! 😯
Hawaii still chasing the rise ball.

No need worry, that is not a walk off homerun, we still get to bat.
well … we’ve always done it the hard way … gotta do it again …

LONG strike…
pitch outside to the LB 😐
fly out … 2 down … cmon Kaia … stay tougher … take care of business
double down the 1st base line … still 2 out
i didn’t agree with the announcers saying that we should pitch around the batter so Kaia could face a batter that was struggling for just that reason. putting the go ahead runner at the plate.
Where the ace? come on Coolen.
Ricketts in now …
seems now that bama is ahead the announcers starting to give wahines some luv
Interesting they didn’t notice the pitching change.
cmon Stephanie … stay tougher

UCANDOOOOOOOIIIIITTTTTTTT!!!
Amanda SO … 1 down
Katie SO … 2 down
cmon … Traci … had some good swings earlier … go Traci
Traci SO … 3 down … bama up 4 – 3 … top of the 7th
stop bama in the 7th and our top of the order comes up, we got the batters we want in the 7th hitting for us.
You have to give credit where credit is due. Dunne has been really tough as seems to get stronger as the game goes on. All it takes is one swing to tie it up.
do it sit the down
whats up with that inside change … looked good to me … cmon blue
Did the announcer just praise the game’s pitching? I thought, a few innings earlier, she said the sport has titled too much to the hitters.
the=them
1 down … go Stephanie …
Huh? Somebody check Grampa‘s kope! 🙄
ground out to Stephanie … 2 down … gooooooo Wahine !!! get the 3rd one
Announcer made a brilliant observation by saying that since the Wahine were not concerned with Alabama’s #1 seed that, “ignorance is bliss.” It reminded me of what someone said of the anouncers earlier.
If that constitutue ‘crying’ – then I’m drowning in tears of laughter!
Well, here we go to the seventh.
this is it …………….. leave it on the field ………….. battle go hard
LET’S GO NA WAHINE!
Come on Wahine. Top of the order, trailing by one, last chance. This is the stuff you dream about during small kid time.
~~•~~~~•~~~~•~ ★ ★ ★ Let’s Go WAHINE!!! ★ ★ ★ ~•~~~~•~~~~•~~
3 outs … bama up 4 – 3 … Wahine coming up for the bottom 7th

I Believe!!!
All the chips in the pot
tournament on the line
wahine down by one
lets go wahine
this is it
cmon Kelly!!!
Well-placed commercial announcements are an art…..
Who has more pressure?? UH batters or Dunne who knows that the UH batters can tie the game REAL QUICK??
again … what’s up with that outside corner … sheessshhhh
But praise must be given to the announcers for knowing about ti leaves and using mana.
Take it to the limit!
ballll four … Kelly walks … hooooo hooooo … good at bat
Rally… or there’s no “TOMORROW”…. 😐
Iwata needs to stay away from the high ball
cmon jessica stay tougher
Then again, back to: “Need to throw the riseball up in the zone.”
cmon … lay off the riser …
Jessica SO 1 down … Majam on 1st
at least the umpire is being consistent…. consistently BAD!!
again … whats up with the outside corner on the other side …
Dunne is good – Wahine got to be better! 😐
Booo this ump suckss!!!
Oh, my. Sixteen of the 20 outs are Ks.
again … blue .. ball inside … what’s up with that
Walk, Don’t Run!

Beeeeelieve!
Awesome!
Go Wahine!
WOW !!!
1-0, BaseBows up on VanDoornum’s 470ft Monster Slam!
The Wahine are ownin’ it, so I’m sayin’ it:
These girls can win the WCWS! NCAA Champs here we come!
Amazing! Simply amazing… Alabama fans must be shell shocked right now.. they must have really felt the game in their grasp in the 7th only to see is slip out at the very very last second. Wahine Softball.. simply amazing.. Congrats to the team!
WAIT A MINUTE!!!!! WAIT A MINUTE!!!! WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!! the homerun victory doesn’t count because it wasn’t earned. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
BELIEVE
GO WAHINE!!!
GO BOWS!!!
ESPN announcer … are you surprised? yes I am surprised … then praises bama … then says … live by the long ball and die by the long ball … this time obviously happy the long ball won … but Hawaii bats well … and gives them more than the defense COSTS … what’s up with that … still no love … always referring to us as the Cinderella team … hey … we just beat the Number 1 seed on their home field … what’s up with that ST
Was that a miss hit ball ????????
WOW Tsaiko Nation !
What A BIG hit as I am “AMAZE” of the heart and courage that these girls displayed as I cant believe what I just saw as that was a BIG hit in a crucial situation BUT bigger then that the ability and skill level that these na wahines show is simple delightful and “INCREDIBLE” !
Congrats to ALL of you for your support to this MARVELOUS team as they stepped up BIG time and ESPN is giving you the pub and props that you and this team richly DESERVE !
BIG WIN vs. Alabama as you end it in HIGH fashion and now Oklahoma City for the World College Series !
UNBELIEVABLE as these girls are beloved on this blog and I see why they make you PROUD of them as these ladies are “FOR REAL” !
BIG hitters who are HUNGRY to be the BEST !
Go Na Wahines !
Congrats to the Supa Wahines!!!!!
speaking of walk off homerun….. HAHAHAHAHAHA
Hey Majam,
You were spot on.
You beat ’em!
I’m reminded of that car commercial with the monkey and his pals and the background music is askin “How ya like me now!!!”
The best part was those Bama fans’ faces after that last shot!
“‘HOW YA LIKE ME NOW!!!” 🙂 🙂 🙂
GO WAHINE
….one of the GREATEST games in UH sports history…Mahalo for the ride wahine…MAHALO!
how sweet it is and beating bama at home tooooooooooooo
And in the big news …. Donovan has to pay for the World Series rings.
True Dat, Hank!!!
ok duffer, let me know how much I won in the wahine lotto.
can the basebows make it 2 Winnahs today???? Go Basebows!!!
what announcers??? you guys wen gamble and lost your shirt? if you were unbiased you should be screaming as it was an incredible finish, starting with the top of the 7th Alabama homerun. 2 outs, walk off homerun? come on…….
WTF!!!! I set the DVR for only 2 hours. The whole last inning, including the homerun didn’t fr!cken record. CRAP!!!
What an idiot. I wasn’t paying attention to the time. Oh well, at least I saw it when it happened!!
Wow, I am deployed in Iraq and able to read about the game online. This is geat. UH softball, baseball along with HPUs softball, go Hawaii.
I missed the win due to radio conking out. Shame the game was not televised. I would have loved the wahine’s even if they lost. They are great athletes and great role models for all Hawaii. Kelly “Roy Hobbs” Majam is a super hero as are the rest ot the wahine’s. And Bob Coolen has done an outstanding Job!
1st and 2nd seed out. Beaten by 15th and 16th seed. What do they know?
Now on to Basebows. Looks like the pitching is falling apart.
if you reading this kazz, myself and whom ever can come, if can can if no can still can
nancy’s babe 10 am
Hank the ride is not over yet, on to OKC!!!
#379 go ask Mel Kiper who picked the football draft.
It would have been a shame if all the games were rained out and Alabama got the automatic berth due to the higher seed. Granted they earned the No 1 seed during the season but we all see what can happen.
come on wessai represent
I was left in tears not knowing who to call or what to do.
Bob Coolen on TV sent the emotions even further. I have never heard his voice shake and crack under all the emotion.
This couldn’t have happened to a more deserving coach.
This couldn’t have happened to a more deserving core of young ladies.
This couldn’t have happened to a more deserving base of Wahine softball supporters that have been following them since February 11th.
PONO,
Gotta “batter” the Bulldogs!
Talk about a “Buckaloosa in Tuscaloosa”!! It was a sweet hom(er) in Alabama!! Go Bows!
Mahalo to all of you who donated to the softball program and those of you who are still putting your money where your mouth is! They need the support for this looong road trip.
Stephen,
You might want to work in the online donation information into the next article on Na Wahine. Guess I’ll send an email to Alvin & JD.
GO WAHINE!!!
OOOOk-lahoma, where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain,
And the wavin’ wheat can sure smell sweet, When the wind comes right behind the rainQ
OOOOk-lahoma, Ev’ry night my honey lamb and I, Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk makin’ lazy circles in the sky….
Stretch take a chance, record both ESPNU 219 and ESPN2 at 3:30, supposedly third game if necessary, and the ESPNU game won’t happen, Missouri beat Oregon. They probably replay the game in the slot
Awe-some, Wahine!!!! Talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat…
What makes it all the more sweet was how that smarmy witch had to acknowledge UH’s win (though very grudgingly) and having to be congratulatory along with having to interview Coach Coolen. Ah, revenge really is a dish best served cold! That hypocrite (pronouncing UH homers as miss-hits/long pop-flies (flys?) didn’t say anything about Alabama’s 3-run go-ahead homer as being “just wrong” when it just cleared the fence; she was so gushingly orgasmic. What goes around, comes around.
WAIT SO I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE SENSING A BCS SCHOOL BIAS FROM ESPN COMMENTATORS????
YA DON’T SAY???? 😆
What our teams are able to do on a shoe string budget, makes you wonder what they could do with a little more, eh? Hmmm maybe UH should focus on their attention on all women sports and make significant inroads into the BCS from that end first? Sort of setting precedent.
Big time credit to Kaia. She kept the Wahine in the game.
Koakane Kazz called, we’ll be there by 10
Amazing. Purely Amazing. Sistas, you did well.
BIK
WHITEY AND DUFFER!
Let’s start saving some more cash to write out!!!
Fresno pitching is running on fumes, too.
Gotta hit and play good defense….
C’mon BaseBows!
The ESPN announcers are “SHOCKED” only because they can’t believe what happen !
BIG TIME players make BIG plays in pressure situations and this is a TEAM of young ladies who are TREMENDOUS players and they have to PROVE themselves to a bias Nation of “BIG NAME SCHOOLS” and this WIN vs a #1 seed in Alabama at Alabama says one thing “I BELIEVE” as nothing but Congratulations are in order !
Being the term “cinderella team” has been around for a long time BUT when you FIT that glass slipper just dance and pour the champange and “CELEBRATE” as perserverance builds character as these na wahines have it and soooo much more !
GREAT win !
Stay humble and focus ladies as good folks of Tsaiko Nation we just witness Hawaii wahine sport history !
AWESOME job COACHES.
Bases juiced in the second….
MacDonald RBI single….tied at 2.

The 3 guys in a tub almost drowned, but due to their fast thinking they bailed out the water by removing the plug and voila, it was dry again and they laughing and smiling. Right kazz and duffer?????
Looks like they’re playing Mizzou.
Ground Out RBI….
3-2.
IW for Kolten Wong to load it up again…..
Hmmmm…..where have we seen Hawaii make someone pay for that move?

WAHINE – you gals are the greatest!
KAZZ – you are terrific too!
Holy Smokes!
Now that I can see the field, I get an idea how GINORMOUS that blast by Van Doornum musta been…Don Robbs said it was to straightaway Center over that huge thing out there! 😯
Mr. Kazz, CONGRATULATIONS on your un dying support to this team as you and others have been vocal with your dedication, belief and compassion to these ladies !
I have not had the opportunity to see them until now but reading your post’s along with others I can understand the ‘LOVE’ that you good folks have for these ladies as I gather there flight home will be a HUGE reception at HNL from the many local fans they have “INSPIRED” !
World Series here you come !
INCREDIBLE WIN and well deserved !
Ralph reports that Mizzou lost their ace to injury.
Speaking of Ralph, I just want to say this now.
I know Ralph gets a rep for being negative and what not, but since game one, Ralph has been there at every game for the Wahine and I’ve enjoyed his company at the Rainbow Wahine softball stadium.
All I’m going to say is that when the Wahine were matched up against Alabama, Ralph was the first person to message me that we can win if we play our style. Many times throughout this post season, he has believed as much as anyone here.
Now, I know that MANY others echoed sentiments of “BELIEVE”, but I just want to say this in response to the “Grouchie Ralphie” remarks over the past few weeks.
….that baseball must look sorta like those footballs that Rolo passed out to the QB’s for their summer workouts! 🙄
Here’s how the softball world series is firming up..
http://www.ncaa.com/brackets/2010/ncaa_bracket_DI_softball.html
#16 Hawaii, #15 Tennessee, and #13 Arizona St are the Cinderella teams with berths.
Kazz,
Nice post about Ralph….he takes a lickin’ from many of us but keeps on tickin’ 🙂
Good morning Tsai-kos!!
WOW!! Congrats to the Wahine!! Great win!! On to OKC!!!
GO BASEBOWS!!
ST – gotta check with SteveM or other cruisers, but the NCL ships all have bowling lanes on them. Not sure how much it costs though. SteveM – need to add that activity to the Tsai-ko cruise itinerary. 😀
Programs make good fans and vice versa.
The Rainbow Wahine and all directly involved with that program are the “pure hearts”.
They deserve EVERYTHING they get.
It’s an honor for us as fans to wear their colors and cheer their names and to feel it when they lose and to cry along with them when they win.
Heading over to Nancy’s to make sure
~ KK doesn’t exceed his EIS limit.
~ Keep Kazz from throwing chairs and tables around and scaring the public.
~ Serve animal parts to Ralph.
~ Keep a sharp eye out for Honey.
…but mostly, to savor a terrific win for our Super Regional ‘Bama slayers!
D1,
Ralph can be “rough” around the edges in critical criticsm of our programs, but he is a good guy and genuine.
Got to know him more over this season and bruddah has been watching Na Wahine out there in Manoa since the Brooke Wilkins days.
Congrats to the wahine softball team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Took me a while to read 425+ posts and only 10:15 a.m.
Darn it. Wife wanted together time and I missed the game winner. Anyways, CONGRATS TO THE RAINBOW WAHINES.
4-6-3…does it for me!
10th DP of the Tourney for Hawaii!
Congrats to Bryan Clay on his win today!
Good luck to HPU!
Coolen deserves a raise.
The past two days wiped away all my frustration with the football and basketball seasons.
I just want to celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree with all of you. Couldn’t listen to the biasness of the announcers
so TV for visual and ESPN 1420 for audio.
Congrats to Na Wahine!!!! The tide was high but we’re movin’ on….. Did anyone see the Alabama bachi sign on TV !! “Oklahoma here we come”
Boo Batesole!
IW to Kolten Wong AGAIN!
pcwarrior,
Maybe they were so impressed with Na Wahine they want to watch summoa!
heheheh
to the wahine softball team heading to oklahoma: keep your souls on fire and have a fun day playing your favorite game of softball…congratulations on your win at alabama!!!…good luck…your fan.
Good Morning all!
Great game Na Wahine!

What a come from behind victory. Congratulaions to the Softball Wahine! I couldn’t stop watching although I needed to be downstairs at the Democratic Convention.
Here’s to more victories in OK!
stretch I make a copy if you want, made double sure with DVR and DVD
mih,
Arizona St. is still playing Florida, and Florida is ahead 3-0 in the 4th inning. They are not in yet…
ST ~
Maybe you could get word to whoever writes for the UH athletics site. Their short initial update about today’s game is incorrect. The wrote that Jenna’s walk-off HR was a 3 run blast which was her first homer, not the 2nd one. Thanks.
Off to get flowers… Enjoy the celebration at Nancy’s, gangeez.
Esme & out….
🙂
Oops.. earlier I said Arizona State was one of the Cinderella team.. I was wrong.. they are still playing and Az State is down … it was #10 Arizona that is in the series.
All right.. BaseBows! looking good! 7-3
Coach Coolen said it best. In a post game interview, “this is the best day of my life.”
These are words of joy. And like others have said you have to feel very happy for him and his team.
This is great. And exciting. And dramatic.
It like witnessing something special.
It also great to see fans happy, smiling and exuberant in the Na Wahines win.
Let’s keep it going. All the way. Number one.
Come on Spangler….
Baseball team leading 7-3 top of the 7th. UH is the home team in this game as well.
Time to turn two…
Wahine rocked SEC’s best pitcher. No doubt they will go all the way.
Dunne was breathing hard at the end. UH’s lineup will wear out any pitcher.
So the Hohokam made the stadium and left? 😕
Slam it shut Lenny Linsky!
jm2375 — it’s possible to search for features at the VTG site, but bowling alleys is not a listed choice. Without extensive searching, the only ship I know that has bowling alleys is the Norwegian Pearl (the ship you were on last year).
Lots of ships have rock climbing walls, golf simulator, mini-golf course, full basketball/tennis courts, and even ice skating rinks. 🙄
The bowling alley and pool tables (another ship) are an engineering feat, even though a cruise ship does not shift much.
BTW, I liked the private karaoke rooms in the night club on the Pride of Hawaii (now Norwegian Jade). That was unusual… 🙂
Congrats to Coach Coolen and the Wahine!
Planning to make a copy of the game with both ESPN-TV audio and ESPN 1420 radio audio (with the audio synced to the video) so you can switch back and forth between the good announcers and the so-so ones. Hopefully, got all the pieces I need recorded correctly.
Any Tsaiko wanting a copy email me at hoherb at yahoo dot com.
Just like in all sports on TV, the announcers are unabashedly biased to the higher ranked BCS schools.
The umpire behind the plate was also biased to Dunne’s outside and inside pitches making it difficult for UH batters. Yes, she recorded 15 SO, but hom many were due to the ump behind the plate?
Will agree that some UH batters kept chasing the “risers” just like when they played Lawrie. Hope they will do better IF Wahine play UDUB in OKC.
And, just like a Hollywood script, Na Wahine pulls it out via the “long ball” for their greatest win in their short history.
Hope all the Na Wahine bitten by the “bug” feel a lot better than yesterday!
ON TO OKC and, yes, Kelly Majam was correct, “we will beat Alabama”!!!
So proud, so proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OLDIE – you’re terrific! Don’t know if my heart could stand it = except now I know the outcome of the game!
Come on, Lenny…do your thing!! Let’s have that double celebration!!
Here’s video of Rodriguez’s walk-off homer:

Yes Mr. Troll, ALL the way as your positive post’s on the girls has been inspiring to read !
Athletics brings out the BEST in all of us and when Hawaii can ‘WIN” on the BIG stage it just makes all Hawaii faithful that much happy proud of the 808 !
Coach Coolen did say it SIR and I watched his emotions with happiness as you could feel his enormous HEART for his “prime time” na wahines !
Mahalo to ALL of you for your LOYAL support as a “NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP” is in sight and the “softbows” will be the media darlings !
wow indeed.
thank you mr ahi. so fresh!
Thanks tombo! Luv it!
Yes ! Mr A House sir I feel your “SO PROUD” ! as your summation is always interesting to read with good thought and “unbias” perception !
You and the many other bloggers are happy and pleased as to over come obstacles that this Hawaii team has to go through and do it “MILES” away from the Aloha State speaks VOLUME of their intestinal foretitude !
Congrats kind sir as “ALL” aloha in the A House Family is fine and dandy as good as Hawaii own kona coffee candy !
Ted,
How many other UH fans are with you in a foreign land??
Rainbow Cliff and I, on behalf of the Letterwinners Club, would like to see all of the members in your unit that are UH fans have something to wear (UH).
I need your address so shoot me an e-mail and it will be in the post.
Mahalo for your service to our country!

last inning, fresno at bat
c’mon guys three outs away
this is exciting, go rainbows
top of fresno order due up
let do it
Baseball up 9-6 top of the 9th. UH is the home team.
It’s just too cool (although stressful) to see how the hitters are continuing to bail out / save the pitchers’ bacon at crunch time (for both teams).
Keep the dream alive!! Thanks to my laptop, I guess you’ll see this in another 8-10 minutes.
#460…Tombo Ahi,
I shi+ you not…I went to surf after the game and as I was out in the water I thought to myself “I hope a video is posted by the blogspot guy.” I come home and there it is. Thanks for putting that up.
I also know how you do your local sports compilations during the football season. Am I getting greedy for you to do one for this weekend as well? Even with the national stuff? Okay, I’m getting a little over my head. With baseball hopefully winning and HPU as well, looks like its a pretty good weekend for local sports. Keep up the good work with the vids. Always a must watch.
first fresno batter ground out to second
second batter fly out to LF
one out away
Just returned home from day at the beach with the grand daughter paddling. Tried to catch parts of the game but not much luck. They did announce Na Wahine winning over the PA system.
Thanks Tombo Ahi, that was nice to watch, have to admit I had a tear in my eye watching the clip. These girls are just an awesome bunch of young women, an deserve every honor they get. I am so happy and proud of them.
And I pledge right now that when they win the National Championship they will get rings no matter who pays for them.
Also a hughe congradulation to Coach Coolen and all the Ass’t Coaches, you deserve it all too.
Now no matter how it turns out, I think that we as fans should be at the airport to greet these young ladies when they come home.
Damm I haven’t been this happy in a long long time,
Mahalo NA WAHINES

Plenny WOOHOO! today ❗
Congrats Wahine SB and Basebows !!!!!!!
Mr. Oldie sir I would LOVE a copy as being here on the mainland does not give me many opportunities to see your fantastic ladies and here Hawaii play by play announcers on it will be a BIG treat !
IF you may mail it to Cliff Sanchez c/o Al Wooten Center.
9106 South Western Ave. LA. CA. (90047) as I will be truly appreciative and very grateful !
I will add it to my Hawaii professional library as this game and BIG WIN is truly TREMENDOUS !
Mahalo kind sir !
Whoever is watching online, did you hear the reaction from the announcer when he thought he was off the mic?? HAHAHAHA
#419 Kazz
Right onh Kazz, old Ralph gets teased a lot, but most of it is done in kind. But truth be told Kazz is right he is one of the biggest supporters of Na Wahine softball there is, he is there every game, and supports them $$$ wise also.
I guess Trap keeps his job.
Well stretch what was it????
Great day for UH sports. Congrats to the softbows and basebows!
Rainbow Wahine in the D-I College World Series, HPU wins to play on Monday for the D-II Championship, and to wrap it up the Basebows win the WAC Tourney and a bid to the Regionals. What a day!
Tombo Ahi — thanks for the video. Memorable clip!
WOW!! TRIPLE WOW!!
Wahine to WCWS!
BaseBows to NCAA Regionals!
HPU softball to DII Championship game tomorrow 9am (and 1pm) on CBS Sports Channel!!

BIK
Doctor Don a ‘PLEASURE’ kind sir as I thank you for including me on the attire to Ted over seas defending our country !
Just for him to lurk / post and be INSPIRED by these darlings of Hawaii softball is warmth to the heart and uplifting to the spirit !
Looking forward to your visit in June as my house and pool is READY for you !
Stay well my LWC bruddah !
Thombo, MAHALO for the video as watching it again sends “CHILL” to the spirit in honor of a GREAT win !
AWESOME ENDING !
Go ladies na wahine !
being a Fresno homer, he said a disapointing, “GAWD”. Oh well…..
Stretch on 480,
I’m also curious to know the reaction.
I was thinking that that lady (and I’m using the term loosely) announcer for the softball game kinda reminded me of the jerk senator in the movie Iron Man 2 having to smile & acknowledge the achievements of Tony Stark & Col. Rhodes
(and presenting them with medals) when she had to acknowledge the Wahine as winners of the Super Regional & having to interview and congratulate Coolen. What sublime justice!
Have a GREAT victory day Tsaiko Nation as I and Mrs. Rainbow Cliff are off to celebrate !
Shrek 3 in 3D and AWESOME sandwiches at Jersey Mike’s Subs in Hawthorne / Manhattan Beach !
Dr. Don GOT to take you there IF there is time and IF you like cold fesh sub sandwiches !
Puts subway and quiznos to a shame !
Go Wahine!!!!!
Great day!!
Need to keep in mind that it was a Fresno broadcast so understandable reaction. Now the ladies on ESPN, should TRY to be more neutral
hey bb, actually chawan does all those UH football chawan-pilations, i just link to em. but i’ll let him know. crazy day, congrats wahine and bows!
And to top off a great day, watching Jack Johnson in concert on HDNET.
can someone explain the CWS to me?
is it double elimination? how many teams? etc?
thanks!
Just wondering, are there any WAC teams in any sport still playing?
Tombo, you’re right. I realized that after I posted. My bad CC. I guess I’m still on the post game high.
STILL, keep up the good work.
bb,
no worries. tombo did a great job. i didn’t even think of getting today’s game recorded. can’t get the local news anyways today. besides, they’ll all have the same espn highlights so tombo’s one is good.
What a great Sunday for Hawaii sports!
Beside the Wahines and Baseball Bows, HPU wins and advance to the NCAA II National Championship Game on Monday.
Way to go Hawaii sports teams!
Congratulations BaseBows!
CONGRATS TO OUR 2010 RAINBOWS FOR CLAIMING THE WAC TOURNAMENT TITLE!!!
What a day!
Pomai,
As I turned to you with a firm handshake on the evening of April 30th 2010 after we clinched the WAC regular season championship:
“Through all the rain, the wind, the hot afternoon sun, dozens of chili dogs and chili bowls consumed and many Skittles coughed up, wow…. IT WAS WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!”
Oldie,
Email sent. Mahalogozaimasu!!
(Click on my name for the song)
“I Made It”
by Kevin Rudolph
(This song is also used by Rainbow Wahine Alex Aguirre as her “up to bat” theme.)
I look up to the sky and now the world is MINE, I’ve known it all my life, I MADE IT!
I used to dream about the life I’m living now, I know that there’s no doubt, I MADE IT!!! I MADE IT!!!
Unknown from a city where no one believed in me, but I never gave up the fight…
But now I’m on top, I told you to let it rock, the money’s fallin’ from the skkkyyyyyyy, I MADE IT!!!!!!!!!
I look up to the sky and now the world is MINE, I’ve known it all my life, I MADE IT!
I used to dream about the life I’m living now, I know that there’s no doubt, I MADE IT!!! I MADE IT!!!
Chawan the world series is double elimination, two separate divisions-UH, Missouri, probably UCLA & Florida in the West or left side bracket, the winner plays 2 of 3 against the East or right side bracket, Washington, Georgia, Arizona or Tennessee winner
so i wonder if there’ll be a banquet now???
chawan
brackets

Wow, today was a great day for the softball and baseball teams…wow.
Nice mention of Bess in this CBS article.
I got 2 hours of sleep last night tossing and turning just waiting for the game to start and the end result to come.
It came, I didn’t eat anything until 2 hours ago, I want to take a BIG NAP, but my feet haven’t touched the ground yet!!!
😆
Nice mention of RGM in this South Florida Sun-Sentinel article. The reporter seems surprised that one of the starting CB candidates for Miami cannot cover RGM…I don’t think that Warrior fans are surprised.
braddahneil posted this video of the last pitch of the UH baseball team’s victory over Fresno. It even has that comment Stretch referred to, haha

Chawan,
In an email I got from Coach Coolen he said the logistics made it difficult to execute since school is out of session and some players go their own ways during the summer, like the mainland girls going home for the summer.
If anything, we will discuss with Coolen the logistics of supporting one in the fall to welcome them back. Hopefully it coincides with the distribution of some “BLING” to the players if the timing is right or we can time it so that it does! 😎
bracelets for the men???
Hey Kazz
Hope the Wahine puka $500. 🙂
This article (which gives the arguments for Texas choosing to go to the SEC) actually makes me think that Texas might end up going to the *Big 10*. They would need to take Texas A&M also, which would mean that the Big 12 might need to take TCU, which could throw all of the previous conference expansion scenarios out the door. Texas going to the Big 10 would really throw off all the previous predictions and open up slots in the Big 12 and Pac-10 that would create HUGE conference shuffling in the Pac-10, MWC, and WAC.
Previously, everyone who discussed Texas going to the Big 10 focused on the $22 million that the Big 10 generated in TV revenue vs. the $11 million the Big 12 got for Texas. However, one important thing to note is that the Big 10 formed a powerful organization (CIC) that negotiates research money with the government on behalf of *all* conference schools. That can mean over a hundred million dollars each year for each school!
Penn State joined the Big 10 in FY 1990. At that time Penn State had $256 million in total research while UT-Austin had $228 million. Now, Penn State has $701 million in total research while UT-Austin has $493 million. That is nearly $200 million per year in research money difference in the growth of Penn State’s research funding since they joined the Big 10 relative to Texas’ research funding!
I would love it if UH could have a similar research collaboration with its conference members…but I don’t think many other WAC schools have as much research funding as UH.
So does form hold in the brackets as the teams advance to the WCWS or is there a re-seeding?
Garrett – Thanks as always for your info. Always appreciated.
But I must say, UH has heard what you were saying all along. The only way for UH to get more valuable for conference realignments is to win … and that they have done … recently … so far … so just win baby …
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJvYE6oLgxc&feature=player_embedded
Last half inning UH-Alabama.
Sorry, saw it was posted earlier….but enjoy again!
ct,
But could the WAC schools form a research collaboration that could boost all members in research funds? That can be especially crucial when you are talking about smaller research programs that do not have a big stream of funding from government sources.
I’m just trying to think of ways that the WAC could become stronger and bring in more money to each member University (especially UH!). Trying to look at models of how other Athletic Departments increase funding for their Universities to see what UH and/or the WAC could do differently to boost everybody…
Congratulations to Kolten Wong, MVP of the WAC Championships
…and to the other BaseBows named to the All-Tourney Team!
Ho’omaika’i to the UH Wahine Softball team, the BaseBOWS, and the HPU Sea Warriors Softball team in getting to the next level of play! Let’s hope Hawaii collegiate athletic teams get some respect & recognition now.
Big Mahalo to Kara Nishimura! After all of this, you should go to LV with your luck.
I love this picture on the rolltide.com website!
Check out the name of their player #13 (no less)!

Congratulations to Cool-en da gang & the Trapp Family of Swingers! Best wishes in the next round of games. I can just hear in the background, “Climb every Mountain”. Say, isn’t there a KK soon??!!!
UH-Alabama game on ESPN again!
Sorry, ESPN2!
espn 2 telecasting UH’s game at 3 pm
Locke looks bigger on the replay, haha
wow game on again. i hope we win again.
Bulla,
You get the thing on “stretch” dats why!

Good looking out on that pic. Poor girl must have had a rough childhood in the playground.
Would have been even more perfect if the girl on the right was standing on the girls left…
Let the good times ROLL…TIDE lol….
where is this pic in #528?
oh wait, nvm. ha! i get it.
is their pitcher sunburnt?
didn’t catch the live broadcast, but this Ump’s strike zone is whack.
#525
Garrett – Yes … the WAC and UH should look for grant opportunities and alliances .. that’s for sure … and I hope we can find some so that we can keep our brain trusts at home … so my boys will have an opportunity here at home. So much can be done to bring research monies here and take advantage of our ties to the Pac Rim nations and the Asian continent … we have so much going for us … it just hard to believe that we cannot leverage them. Keep the ideas flowing … we need big thinking
#528 nice find.
what a win.
i must say that we beat one of the better pitchers we will face this year. but, i tip my cap to kelsi dunne. she took it on the chin graciously and appeared to sincerely congratulate the wahine at game’s end during the postgame high five’s.
can’t wait until thursday.
got to love the uhathletics.com folks who were quick to get some nice full page poster up already congratulating the softbows and rainbows.
eh c_c,
you mean the ump was out of whack on the replay too? 🙂
It’s amazing how people notice obvious things.
I’ve been accused of some BS about how I am imagining ESPN sounding “biased” towards BCS conference schools and not doing their homework on schools like Hawaii in big post season situations.
I’ve made some phone calls in excitement since this morning and the reaction was the same. From a friend on vacation in Oregon to my friend’s dad and all the people in between, they all couldn’t believe the slight that the Wahine were getting throughout the broadcast.
They all asked me, was it always like this? I replied, well, this is the first time on national TV for the Wahine in two years, but in essence, could you not expect it?
When you look at it, the media, the NATIONAL media, is conditioned and geared towards the usual suspect of winners, however, who is going to deny the FACT that if you pride yourself as the “Worldwide Leader in Sports” wouldn’t you pose some real professionalism in researching facts as opposed to spewing biased commentary based on what is or has been the norm?
Oh wait, doing research is harder!
To call the Wahine’s additional runs other than solo homers “unearned” is plain dumb.
To heavily suggest that the Wahine’s homers were due ONLY to high altitude and small parks is ignorant since we have hit 12 home runs since the Palo Alto Regional and through the Super Regionals in two seperate parks AT SEA LEVEL IN PARKS THAT ARE BOTH 200 DOWN THE LINE AND 220 DEAD CENTER!!!
In the end it didn’t matter, the truth came out, and the deserving winners emerged.
However, the truth in the national perception was truly exposed for what it is and to make excuses in defense of it only adds to the ignorance and disrespect of 21 hard working young ladies that are representing the State of Hawaii and the University of Hawaii with honor and class.
The proof of favoritism was on display today, just ask anyone who watched and listened to the ESPN broadcast.
Personally, like I have been suggesting, I did NOT even watch the live television broadcast as I had set the DVR on, but opted to listen to the game called by Blaine Kauwe and Lori Santee, who gave EQUAL “excitement” to Bama’s runs as with Hawaii’s.
I met up to celebrate with some Tsaikos this morning and they filled me in on the debacle that took place over the airwaves ala ESPN, so when I returned home I watched the game in full to hear everything and you can just tell how “crushed” the play by play gals were that their favorite Alabama squad was eliminated.
things are looking up…
men’s volleyball and women’s volleyball are in the national spotlight and are considered elite programs again.
track has done well with a limited number of participants.
the baseball team has made a remarkable late season surge to get back to the big one.
wahine softball just put a huge exclamation point on national tv today getting to the csws for the first time. i am sure that many will be pullng for our girls and i won’t be surprised if they become the darlings of the tournament. long ballers who will be the smallest team out there and everybody loves hawaii.
looking ahead…a lot aniticipation, curiosity, and new found excitement surrounding our resurgent basketball team led by one time hawaii gatorade poy, gibson “the gibber” arnold, has many chomping at the bit. its been awhile and we’re hungry for some hoops.
As al pointed out earlier in the week, when the call went out to Kaia, she did a fantastic job today.
i have to believe that the football team should perform better than last year’s injury riddled team. we seem to possess the potential and talent to put together a stronger representative of our state. a lot of pressure surrounds this current coaching staff who have taken on quite a different look from its original staff just two years ago.
only mack and rich miano are handling the same chores from day one. several incumbents find themselves with new positions and with five new faces from the first of mack’s staff we seem to be constantly in a state of rebuilding the staff.
its time to hunker down and make something happen. enough indecision time to turn it on.
duffer…you coming in for the kkall? your driver awaits.
Al,
I’ll be on Oahu the 9th, 10th, & 11th. Playing err I mean marketing ala Stretch. I’m bringing my checkbook along. 🙂
Al,
I agree with you about Kelsi Dunne. On an Alabama website, 2nd pitcher Charlotte Morgan was quoted in saying that J-Rod’s homer was a “lucky shot”.
Morgan was visibly dejected as much as the ESPN commentators were emotionally dejected, however Kelsi Dunne, looked genuinely respectful to the Wahine while shaking hands at the end.
For Dunne, she knew she was good and was the ONLY big difference in Alabama winning over the Wahine as there is a big dropoff in pitching talent beyond Dunne, however you can tell by her face that she respected the Wahine for the legitimate threat they posed to her all series long.
FULL ARTICLE:
kazz…no worry. what happens on the field is most important.
that’s the bottom line.
from youth leagues to our collegiate teams, we are always overlooked. we don’t look like the type of team that should be competing with others. it happens in goodwill tournaments, little league, etc, etc.
but, we have heart and we have pride something that comes along with hawaii. walk softly and carry a big stick.
no worry.
just look at the faces of disbelief today. that tells the whole story my brother.
be humble, be ourselves, be hawaiian.
duffer…lemme know.
kazz…better to be lucky than good. twice in a game????
you ever see people, fans, go huhu over the national media. The teams won biggest in history and they crying over the silliest things. Instead they should enjoy the moment. Savor the goods things in life. But nope. I swear, I think if some of them won the mega bucks lottery they’d cry over having to dish out the 40% tax., If they listened to the announcers carefully it wasn’t as biased as they think.
Kazz,
3 words
In Yo Face!
she can cry lucky all she wants while watching the wahine on tv like the rest of us. good sportsmanship? not by her.
GAME 1 OF HAWAII’S WORLD SERIES MATCH UP AGAINST MISSOURI IS SET.
THURSDAY ON ESPN.
7AM HAWAII TIME.
#557 al
thats how give kazz some coaching
cry,cry,cry
Al,
Ha! Yes that is true. I also enjoy being right. 😆
Talking about the fact that we get disrespected by the national media and being portrayed as some kind of “lucky buggers” while celebrating a historic upset just makes it so much sweeter.
What’s up with wives and their “together time”, what a waste of time.
Looks like some fans at wacsoftball.blogspot.com aren’t imagining things also.
Congratulations to all the graduates from the Little Learner’s pre school. Wishing you much luck in your elementary school careers..
Let’s check the Wahine “Expectations”:
1- Expect To Win (Won)
2 – Expect to be in a dogfight (I’d say striking out sixteen times means that the were in a dogfight)
3 – Expect that sometime during the game, winning will appear to be impossible (Not impossible, but chances may have appeared to be slim with two outs in the bottom of the seventh)
4 – Win the game late in the fourth quarter. (Well didn’t it in the fourth quarter, but does the bottom of the seventh count? I think so.)
Great win Wahine!!! Celebrate well, and then get some much needed rest.
OH YEAH I CRIED!!!!
With tears in my eyes jumping around and yelling in the AM. 😎
What a day!!!!
When David knocked down Goliath, all everyone saw was the little David knocking down the Giant. No one was there to observe the thousands of hours that David spent shooting pebbles at rocks, trees, lions, and wolves. David had prepared his whole, entire life, to knock out the Giant. Only thing is that no one else was there to see the preparation phase of the equation.
The wahine have prepared their entire lives for this post-season tournament. Only their immediate family members, friends, coaching, and support staff know what kind of preparation they have been through. The Wahine are in the World Series because they belong there. It doesn’t take milions and millions of dollars to sweat. All it takes is effort and time. The wahine may not have tons of money, but it’s obvious that they put in tons of effort and time. Good luck next week. Although some of us are quiet in our support, we indeed are there to support you. Mahalo.
BREW808,
Got the package!!! Mahalo!!!
That was sweet even the second time around! 😎
D1,
I think I’ve watched J-Rod’s walkoff two run homer aka “THE DAGGER” about 6 times now.
I still think the best part about the whole thing was watching Bob Coolen’s reaction. He had his glasses on and the first time I could tell he was choking up but I couldn’t see if he was acutally tearing up, but in the replays you could see tears on his face.
Not enough can be written about the timeless dedication he has put into this program since he arrived at Manoa.
Again, this couldn’t have happened to a more hard-working head coach!!!
Pride,
Well said sir! 😎
duffer — please be sure to email me privately if you and/or whitey will attend on June 5. I’m not asking just for RSVP purposes–your arrival will seriously alter the betting line on whether Al actually finds his way to Krazy Karaoke or not. 👿 😆
In reference to Charlotte Morgan’s comment….heck, I’ll take lucky over good anyday, especially when it gets us to the WORLD SERIES!!!!
Wahine gets some love from ESPN…
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/columns/story?columnist=hays_graham&id=5234988
JM2375,
I’m still getting teary-eyed looking at that photo.
It wasn’t too long ago that this very team was performing in front of only their friends, family and 60 other fans and now they are shocking the world of softball.
I think the days of having casual and relaxing times at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium without having to deal with lines to the concession stand or the bathroom are pretty much dead. 😆
thats a good article from #576
I wonder who Bama would have started Game 2 if Game 1 was not a mercy rule game.
To me it seems that Game 1 allowed Alabama to take the foot off the gas just a little and subsequently in Game 2 the pitching was not as dominant and our bats came to life.
For people that DVR’d the game, try go back and look at the faces of the Wahine as soon as they arrived at the bottom of the 7th when they huddled as they always do by the dugout.
I saw the SAME looks that I’ve been seeing from my seat right above 3rd base above the Wahine dugout at Manoa since February.
This team continues to amaze me at how mentally strong they are.
BB,
I think Alabama would have been confident enough to start Morgan. Dunne is capable of playing a lot so if Morgan got lit up she would of got yanked easily.
Also, Bama was pretty sure they’d be going to Oklahoma City so they wanted to have two pitchers ready to go and I think Morgan didn’t pitch for about 2-3 weeks.
Even Marissa Yamane looks more chipper than normal.
Rob DeMello recaps the action from Alabama right now!!!
Great read. Mahalo jmxxxx.
Troll, sorry I have to back up Kazz on this, as I didn’t see the game live I saw the replay they had on espn. Without a doubt these espn announcers where bias, they fully expected bama to roll over Hawaii an the way they called the game it came across loud and clear. Now I agree that at times Kazz get a little emotional an express himself with that emotion but the facts he states are true.
You can ask around, I do see the game from both sides, an am the first to give props to good plays by both teams, I mean a good hit is a good hit, a good play is a good play period.
But I do draw the line when so called experts who are hired to be fair in their play calling are not, and these guys where not.
But no matter what anyone says about us being lucky or we only hit at a short park or altitude, they can not say we didn’t win fair and square.
Once again I wish to thank Coach Coolen and the road Warriors for making this one heck of a day for all the people of this State
IMUA NA WAHINE
Also oldie if you could so kindly make me a copy of this game also, I will add to my collection
I am proud of the Wahine and the Basebows … and the HPU teams for their victories. All of them well earned. And we should celebrate the victories and enjoy them for the accomplishment that each team makes in the history of their sports and their schools.
But it is also the responsibility of fans to point out the blatant disregard for the facts that these so-called ESPN announcers and analyst are making. No … I am not whining … just correcting the misconceptions and misstatement of facts. Yes … I am a fan … and yes I am biased … but I call em as I see em … and I agree with Kazz …

Kazz,… that’s chicken skin….
Kazz funny there was a giant rainbow over all of Haleiwa beach park this morning when we got there at 7:00, I should have know right there it was going to be a great day.
Another article out of Bama:
Here you can see that Kelsi Dunne is more mature than her senior teammate in the circle.
“We won 28 in a row and had seven new people in different positions and had a whole new lineup,” Murphy said. “I think we overachieved.”
“I think we overachieved.”????? What da chicken hekka is dat?
Kelsi Dunne was a class act during and after the game…unlike her coach who still can’t say “congratulations” or give kudos to the Wahine team…auwe
I hope Keilani Ricketts rounds up some Oklahoma fans to root for the Wahine.
I agree Dunne seems to be the only one who is mature enough to give props where there due. So props right back at you Ms Dunne, and deservedly so, she is one heck of a pitcher.
I like Kelsi Dunne. She should play for Hawaii.
If you look at Melissa and Jenna at bat in the last inning you will notice how relaxed they were. You would never guess that the game was on the line.
Haka,
We had six players in new positions and two freshman leading in our lineup.
We ate up the home run record, we ate up WAC and Palo Alto Regional competition.
We shocked the #1 seeded team on their field in the Super Regional for all the nation to see.
I think WE over-achieved also. 😎
Haka,
Keilani will most likely be there to support her sis.
Not sure about Keilani’s teammates though. After all you them BCS folk stick together yeah? 🙄
I remember reading earlier where the Bama coach said that Hawaii has a great softball team. I think it was after the second game.
Yeah Kazz,
If it weren’t for the “lucky rainbow” I don’t think we would have had a chance!
We will be getting a lot of long overdue attention this coming week. The girls know that they can enjoy it, but Katie and Amanda will make sure they stay focused. You never know if you’ll ever get the chance again and for the seniors…well you gotta feel good for them. It takes a lot of hard work, talent, chemistry and “luck” to play at this level.
Go Wahine!
Lucky you live Hawaii!
The Alabama coach did congratulate the Wahine as well as Kaia. Just because it wasn’t in those articles, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Here are the postgame quotes from Alabama’s website.
http://www.rolltide.com/sports/w-softbl/recaps/053010aaf.html
labrat,
reading that jenna played in the jr college world series last year and that her father prepared her for those situations all her life, it’s understandable that as coach coolen said, “she shows no emotion”. jenna said, “she knew she would hit”!!! you gotta love it!
i know i will have to play it back one more time before bedtime…i know it! 🙂
thanks, matt. I didn’t hear or read anything from the media. thanks for the link and my apologies to coach murphy.
anybody has video of J-Rods 1st Homerun??
#570 – Bruddah Kazz –
You are most welcome! 😀
I know you collect “stuff” and I thought you’d enjoy a little memento. Let’s hope it’s really, really special one!!! 🙂
Rainbow Cliff, Pomai, and those who emailed me, I should be getting the DVD of the game out to you by Tuesday or Wednesday…
Good luck to Coach Coolen and the Wahine on Thursday!

Troll – Shame on you!
> How come you don’t want to see the ESPN crew for what they are? Media mugs who are mean-spirited-high-maka-maka vermin. They are washed up, former players who have no business being around true athletes, much less describing their play…Is it because they are like you! Maybe that’s why you feel so badly for them.
> Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is? Kazz certainly does. So do the Tsaiko’s who raised money to help send the team to the Regionals. What did you do? Seems like you are the whiner…the crybaby. Cry, cry, cry for your media talking heads.
> Why can’t you talk about the team in a more positive light like Kazz does? Give us the facts about those media darlings of yours? How is it they screwed up everything from the dimensions of our field, to the identities of the players. What prompted them to add those delicious tidbits about how the Wahine rely on homeruns – how they don’t earn their runs by playing small ball.? BS!
> Enlighten us oh wonderous Troll. Tell us exactly how the Wahine players were given credit for crunching the long ball in comparison with the Alabama girls. No, try wait, I’ll tell you how…
R-E-L-U-C-T-A-N-T-L-Y!
Let’s Go Bows! Win it all and leave no doubt!
All I can say to Morgan is that Hawaii was really lucky when she was pitching. And when she popped up the ball in the second game to give Hawaii the win Ricketts was real lucky. I am really sad that you have to make excuses. Just give the props to the ones who beat you.
#600 Thanks Matt for posting.
Those comments by the Alabama girls shows a lot of class.
I agree w/ all of the comments above Re: Dunne. I think she’s maybe the best pitcher the Wahine faced all season – certainly in the top 3.
Kelsi Dunne and the Tide softball team were awesome & worthy opponents.
The UH Wahine Softball Team was more better – or is it more badder !!! 🙂 😀 😆
★★.W.A.H.I.N.E.★.S.O.F.T.B.A.L.L!!!.★.W.A.H.I.N.E.★.S.O.F.T.B.A.L.L!!!.★★
Yep! Kelci is really a class act!!
#600 – Thanks for the link Matt
I have no animosity towards the Alabama softball team. They were obviously disappointed and said a few off the cuff things … that’s OK … they are a great team and earned the right to be #1. But this makes me totally respect their outstanding pitcher Dunne … a real class act … wish her all the best as with the Alabama team (except against the Wahine of course) but with that attitude … I have no doubt that she will go on to do great things in life.
The problem I have is with the so-called “professional” broadcasters … the commentators and the analysts … they get paid for their services and should do their homework … and promote the sport that they are broadcasting. They should’ve been screaming at the top of there lungs … “do you believe in miracles … ” something like that … instead …they chose to go with incomplete facts … and inaccurate commentary … and sounded like someone died when the HR was hit … what’s up with that???

#613 – Kekoa – nada. 🙁
Nada chance, or Nada Colada?
KAZZ – You are one OK guy. Like the last time Pomai passed the hat, the Tsaikos will come through.
I have a different take on the stuff coming out from Alabama. They have nothing to be ashame of – their girls played their hearts out – just like our Wahines. Our victory could be the matter of skill and sheer determination. It also could be considered as lucky, as the ‘Bama girls may think.
Whether it is skill or plain luck, I don’t care – I’ll take it!
COACH COLLEN: You made my day! (Just as the WAHINE made yours!)
Incidentally, the Alabama field is shorter than ours – for those who are interested
It is one thing when others diss UH but when I see something like UH losing the game at their own website I have to scratch my head.
Check out UHs game today.
http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/custompages/Stats/Sb/TEAMSTAT.HTM?path=softball
labrat,
Someone had a deadline? 😕
labrat – I think someone too busy partying and/or crying
The game must still be going on in someones head.
I really want UH to face Tennessee again.
By the way, Morgan gave the Wahine hitters credit after she was shelled as pitcher during game 2.
http://www.rolltide.com/sports/w-softbl/recaps/052910aah.html
In fact, Dunne followed her lead after game 2 in talking about the Wahine bats. Like some of the best athletes, I’m guessing Morgan is ultra-competitive and doesn’t like to lose. I think the emotion of the end of her collegiate softball career got the best of her today which led to her unfortunate remark about a lucky hit. She may not be the narcissist that some of you portray her to be.
I agree the ESPN crew left something to be desired. The remarks referring to the Wahine as the weaker team (stated numerous times) were just uncalled for and lacked professionalism.
#606
Everyone’s opinions subjective. no need be condescending.
Plus I also think your brew808, nice try.
Labrat #619 maybe that was the 3rd replay on ESPN and we lost. OH NO! I knew we shouldn’t watch the 3rd replay. odds are we were bound to lose eventually 🙂
Just watched the dvr…
Best game since West Oahu won the Little League World Series.
In that game, I remember watching the opposing coach yell at his players. I felt the bachi instantly and knew Hawaii would win.
Today’s game bachi moment for me was when the ESPN announcers started looking ahead to Alabama in the World Series. BAM.
If Alabama had respected the Wahine, especially after playing them yesterday, they would not have that “crushing loss” feeling today. They would have been able to walk away with pride after battling a worthy opponent to the very end.
But a loss to a team they viewed as inferior is a hard pill to swallow and thus the sense of loss.
So, WAHINE.
Stay humble, stay focused, stay healthy and keep respecting your opponents while you do what you do.
Most of all, mahalo for BELIEVING in yourselves and being STUDS out there in the ballpark.
You will go ALL – THE – WAY!!!
#619. I guess the person/people that are responsible for updating the UH website leave something to be desired as well. To link to that incorrect box score in the very article describing the Wahine win makes it even worse.

you ever see people, fans, go huhu over the national media.
Actually Alabama has a larger field which is 200 feet down the lines and 220 at center.
The Rainbow Wahine Softball field is 200 feet all around from the lines and at center.
I pointed out the biased announcing in the ESPNU Facebook link after hearing the invitation to join in.
It was VERY biased.
It gave me a whole new appreciation for Papa Leahey who calls a “both side of the ball” broadcast so well. I guess I expected that from “ESPN” booth announcers.
Well,
Onwards and Upwards.
One pitch and clear.
My fears were unfounded.
I take my cap off to Coach Coolen and the Wahine.
I BELIEVE!
HA! Katie Grimes is sporting that “DEFEND HAWAII” shirt with the image of the AK-47 on the front!!!
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! 😆
I always loved that concept design. It gets the point across!!! 😈
#606
this is what i wrote on another site
am i’m right or wrong isn’t the point. the point is is that i write what i see, mostly without prejudices.
re-espn broadcasting of the UH softball game.
Everyone’s opinion is subjective. Some say amateurish. Some say bias. Some say insightful. Some say BS.
I say insightful.
Both announcers in their approach provided analysis and color. They identified strengths and weaknesses of what the batters and pitchers were doing correctly and badly on both sides. Sort of what Gruden does for Monday night football in identifying what made the play work or not.
They showed replays of both team’s pitcher’s mistakes of throwing homerun pitches that were at eye level.
They said on numerous occasions of how the Hawaii batters were swinging at bad pitches. This is fact.
They also didn’t have many opportunities to toot Hawaii’s horn when 16 of the batters went down swinging, right?
Their dialogue acknowledged that Hawaii proved the skeptics wrong when it came to hitting the long ball. If they were biased would they start a debate and then end it by diluting Hawaii’s accomplishments this year? They didn’t.
Time and time they gave props to Hawaii, complementing them on how well they traveled, played on a hostile field, endured the elements and represented themselves well.
They also alluded to the Hawaii fans in attendance. And how they are a proud people. And how the fans in the islands are proud of them, too. They used words in identifying the Hawaii team like having the Aloha spirit and mana.
The broadcast team also raved about Coach Coolen being a dedicated worker in his 19 years in the program.Giving him props. They also gave props to the sailing coach for doing 20 years at UH. For good measure they said coaching in Hawaii would be a great job.
I thought the broadcasting team game Hawaii due respect.Honestly listening to them over the last two days if I were from a neutral state, I’d say I learned more from following their dialogues and debates about Hawaii than Alabama. I don’t see biases or amateurism.
🙄
As seen from the other side of the fence.
It had to be tough for Tide Sports Executive Sports Editor, Tommy Deas, to write this article.
We’ve been on that side of the fence soo many times.

BIG mahalo for the sacrifices you do for our country! Be SAFE and come home SAFE!
WOW, it is!
Came home to see the Softball and Baseball team win.
Congratulations to the Softball team for knocking them “mini” tides! Stay hungry ladies.
Also, congratulations to the 2010 WAC Baseball team. Better late than never! What took you so long? And, oh, stay hungry, too.
To follow the Wahine, Brooks Baehr will be reporting LIVE from Oklahoma City for Hawaii News Now.
Here’s to many more championships for the University of Hawaii.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but this has to be the first time the women and men’s team of the same sport won the WAC championship on the same year. Here’s to many more.
This link takes you to an article of the Lady Tide press conference. Embedded in the article is the video of that conference. Watch it. You can see how painful it is for them. How their awesome season came crashing on one “lucky” swing.
It was a tough interview but I give credit to the Lady Tide.
A-Joe,
What happened to the rest of that article? Seemed more like a game summary than anything.
How’s that photo though? Sheesh, that is tough!
I mean I really want to laugh at it, I really do, but I just can’t. Should be ok though I am sure Michelle Smith went over to console the Alabama players one by one.

This writer, Gentry Estes was gracious on Twitter to let us know what was happening during the lightning storm delay.
It thought his articles were pretty good.
Hey, Rob DeMello is back on air, again. I thought he wasn’t suppose to be back until June. Anyway, nice to see him on TV once again.
kazz and duffer, are we continuing into the CWS??? I have no problem with staying in the tub with the 2 of you. Except, this time i going bring some biru.
BIG mahalo to the men’s baseball team and the rest for their support of the softball team.
WHITEY,
I SHALL CONTINUE ON TO THE END!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously though, you and Duffer are just GREAT! You don’t have to do this, but I know you want to out of the kindness and dedication in your hearts..
TO RECAP WOMEN’S WORLD SERIES DONATION STAKES:
HOME RUNS – $20.00
GRAND SLAMS – $50.00
MERCY RULE VICTORY BY WAHINE – $200.00
Re: #625 – Troll, you weren’t even close. I tell you what. Brew is a lot smarter than all of us, he would just ignore you, like he’s done already. I just jumped in because of the ridiculous defense you offered for the ESPN broadcast team. That and your condescending attitude towards Kazz.
You’ve now dissed Brew and Kazz! No need apologize tho. We know who you are. We’ve all known people like you all our lives. You just don’t get it, never will.
Unlike what you say, not everyone’s opinions on this blog are subjective. In fact most of them are as objective as the previous paragraph! This fact has somehow been ignored by you Mr. Troll.
You may all return to the regularly scheduled program. My head hurts, I goin’ sleep.
Good Memorial Day eve UH faithful, and to all a good nite!
Nitey Nite and SWEET WAHINE/ BASEBOWS Dreams come true!
kazz, rub a dub, dub, three men in a tub, kazz, duffer, and me. like i said, i going bring biru on board this time. i wonder if the troll would like to join us in the tub and we can exchange info????? Plus he would help balance our tub with yin and yan.
Whitey,
BTW, stop calling it a “bathtub”. 😯
I don’t like the sound of that. 😆
to the darkside merchants, i will not be visiting you to make any purchases in the near future cause my spacecraft got hit by some softballs in space and i can’t takeoff due to a softball storm which is scheduled for June 3rd-9th.
BG808,
Not sure about that stat you presented about a women’s and a men’s team winning WAC titles in the same season though.
I think either a combination of the two tennis programs and the Rainbow Wahine Soccer program may have also done something similar.
Interesting is that while UH’s softball and baseball programs flourished TODAY, Alabama’s softball AND baseball programs went in the opposite direction.
Talk about polar opposites today!
Ho boi! So much pilikia troll bebe. Maybe you should just chill and except the fact that everyone on this blog saw what happened today as a slap in the face. So we beat them at the end, and that’s all that counts.
As Al would say, ’nuff already!
G’nite Liz! How ’bout dem Bows?!
kazz, this is not your usual tub which holds only 3, but this is a most spacious one and we can accommodate many more and make this trip more enjoyable. hooooohaaaaa
Hey, who’s knocking Brew? 🙁 Brew, hope you’re able to follow the ladies in OKC. What a day…I can’t get enough of watching the video clips of the bottom of the 7th. WOW WEE, can’t wait for Thursday morning – may have to tell the boss I’m coming in after 9. 🙂

haka – #656 – well said!
Off-topic – anyone ever used priceline (name your own price) for flights? good? bad?
Kekoa,
No no no no. “Troll” thought that the way ESPN called the action was sufficient enough for what the Rainbow Wahine Softball team deserved.
Simple as that.
JM,
Never did sorry to say. I used hotwire.com a few times though and the prices were some of the lowest around at that time though.
Ms. jm…I know someone who’s used priceline for hotels – seems to work really well. Not sure about flights, though…for hotels, you can name your lodging (2-star, 3-star, etc.) AND your desired price.
It will be nice to come home to watch the softball and baseball team play. Should be back in time for the WWS.
The late Michael Jackson would say “heal the world” 🙂
The priest at my church would say “peace be with you” 🙂
And, tsaiko al would say…nuff ready! 😆
only 35+ posts to 700.
stay awake just a little bit longer.
Sorry … wasn’t going to say anything more … but I guess some people were listening to a totally different broadcast than I was … sure the broadcasters mentioned certain things in passing … but if you think that it was fact filled and objective … well … I guess you must be more insightful than I …
All I know is that the announcers got many “facts” wrong … sure the Wahine were getting dominated by a great pitcher … but there wasn’t a whole lot to compliment Alabama about until the 5th either … but they still managed to get in jabs about the size of the Wahine field and our hitting covering our fielding … and the strike zone … puhleeassse … don’t need to go on …
But the main thing is that as professional broadcasters … they did not even say that this was an “historic” win … no #1 seed has ever been defeated in a regional. No announcers getting excited at the level of the competitors and the “battle” on the field. No one screaming … going … going gone … home run … or commenting that this may be the most exciting game in this years regionals … like I said earlier … they reacted like their best friend just died. If you enjoy sports … then you gotta love the ending to the game … one way or the other … especially when you are a supposed professional broadcaster … isn’t that what you live for … exciting endings ????
ct
PP – have used hotwire for hotels, but never used priceline for flights because they never gave me anything good. This time however,… (if it’s really true) they’re quoting around $200 less than anything else I can find. Hubby still won’t commit to exact dates, so I’m still a little stuck. Time’s running out. This trip is for mid to late July to DC. He thinks the trip will be boring.
So Kazz, it’s all water under the proverbial bridge? Kayden. Thought this troll mama was getting on your case.
My apologies to the troll. The opinions expressed seemed a bit odd. Who would’ve thought these experts were gushing with goodwill towards anyone else except the Tide!
jm2375 – I use Priceline regularly for low rates but not bidding.
Kekoa- amazing day. I was fully engaged in spiritual development programs for kids and opio and left the ballers in Kea Akua’s hands. The dvr treat this evening was sweet!!!
Wow, jm…good luck. If it is $200 less, then that’s pretty good for high season, I suppose. Do you get to choose your carrier/seats with priceline for airlines? I wouldn’t think so. You know very well that D.C. is a hard place to get to from HNL (no non-stops, except Air Force One), so any savings would help. Good luck with your trip planning…always an exciting adventure – to plan for upcoming trips.
#666 ct
I take one exception to your comment, I did notice some excitement from the announcers when Alabama hit their home run in the 6th, they both came across a giddy as heck.
wtf announcers got to get with the times. don’t downplay the long ball, diss the bats or the players etc. give it up and just announce the plays
every sports go thru changes in player, equipment, rules, strategies and the teams that adjust keep winning and moves on. that is why they are always in the hunt. 😈

My colleage was laughing when reading one paragraph on your post “… goes to UH media relations director Kara Nishimura, whose winning call on the coin flip — tails — …” this is it, you just nailed it down pal.
Hi there. I really appreciate the great points you made. I dont think Ive actually thought about it in that way. I can really appreciate how you approached the subject matter and what you said really gave me a new perspective. Thanks for taking the time to write this all out. Nice precise info.
