Tuileta set to join volleyball Warriors

Former Punahou two-sport athlete Larry “Tui” Tuileta is expected to join the volleyball Warriors next week.

Tuileta, who was at USC for three semesters through December 2015, has met the requirements to complete his transfer to UH. He already had received conditional acceptance to enroll at UH next month.

Tuileta will not receive any form of athletic scholarship from the volleyball Warriors, keeping open his options if he also wishes to pursue a career with the football team. He has three seasons of volleyball eligibility, but only two years for football.

    Foist?

Tuileta’s future is with the volleyball team and he should concentrate on that. Football is not a priority for him and it will take more than a year to get up to speed and physical condition to compete or participate on the team.

    Have a Merry Christmas Tsaikos!

    Mele Kalikimaka!

    Welcome home to Mr. Tuileta.
He’s gonna have to wait in line to get on the court. This year’s team is deep and talented, but young.

    Go Warriors!

I’ve been call to work tomorrow, so I won’t make it to my first and the last tailgate of the year. Oh, well, next season, the good Lord willing. Is the cattle call still on for the 27th? I don’t recall seeing any RSVP’s. I’m RSVPing now, if its a go. I’m looking forward to meeting some of you fine folks in person. Merry Christmas!

Tui will make the volleybows even deeper. He will earn his way onto the court at some point. May eventually be part of the passing rotation the Bows will need when Kupono graduates. Those guys are crucial and hard to find.

Hi Stephen, it’s interesting to see players progress past the court and field after UH. There is one particular player I loved watching OH Danielson who I understand went on to play pro in Japan. A powerful and dominating player. Looking at her personally she is part Hawaiian, born n raised in the islands, went to Kamehameha School, and lived the volleyball life from a young age. She was groomed for it. If you look at her journey it’s been quite amazing. Made the Jr Olympic, National USA, and World Teams. Been to places and competed overseas even before graduating high school. That type of exposure and experience is priceless and to make it that far at such a young age says a lot about the player and family who support her. Takes sacrifice, commitment, and drive to cultivate your craft n talent. But even smarter as a coach to see that and recruit that kind of talent. Shojis efforts has been nothing short of pure genius. I applaud his service and diligence as a coach with UH. He’s coached some great players and gave us some great games and records. It’s about the wins. Regardless of the obstacles as a university. He took what he had and worked with what he got. Comes down to coaching. He himself brings players to UH. His reputation. Great coaching n knowledge of the game. Finding players, identifying their strengths, and tapping into it to make it work for the team. I say this because it’s interesting to see that there is a football walk on try out since 2015 WR Malik Lockett. He’s part Hawaiian, is from Kapolei homestead, wasn’t born in Hawaii because his family was military but was raised in Hawaii. His journey too has been quite remarkable. He competed nationwide in FB camps and combines made quite a name for himself. Played multiple sports at a young age cultivating his craft n talent. He too was being groomed for the game of FB. Spent his senior year in FL before coming back to the islands. So where is he? I say this because he like Danielson come from the same bloodline. They are family. Not everyday you get that kind of talent and player. Great talent but even greater people. I think Lockett’s only downfall is he lacks opportunity. Two try outs and still no offer? Running a 4.5? Like Danielson who was being recruited by Florida but chose to play in her home state. Lockett was being recruited by FSU. Extra ordinary legit DIV I talent takes a good coach to find and be smart enough to capitalize on it but to be able to groom it. The kind of talent to make it to the next level. And it’s right in our back yard. Hate to see that kind of talent go to waste when it’s homegrown.

All I want is a Warrior Victory!

Merry Christmas Tsaikos. May the Warriors have a great game and their stockings be filled with joy and good health

And for my friend Col A House, merry Christmas and may the Warriors “TRUMP” Middle Tennessee State.

Good luck to the Bows!! Play hard, with no regrets, leave everything on the field, injury free. Regardless of the outcome, what a difference a new coach and staff makes!

Also, looking forward to recruiting and Spring Ball, too!

  17. Inyoface December 24, 2016 10:30 am

He should try out as a receiver.

  18. A-House December 24, 2016 10:31 am

    whitey:

your heart felt Christmas wish is accepted and be especially wonderful when UH “TRUMPS” – absolutely love dat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there come a day soon, I hope, to visit Maui and would like to have lunch with you and Duffer — also would like to pay my respects to Stan Saka

last time I visited Maui, I flew direct to Kapalua Airport to visit a client

before that, Maui Airport did NOT have any “passenger ramps” – we walked off the Aloha Airlines plane to the terminal — yee gads!

  19. A-House December 24, 2016 10:38 am

with Stoots as the “passing coordinator” — I wish he would “open up” his play book
and use them today — use the true “spread offense” at MT and see them scramble
    of defense

to all the TSAIKOS, where ever you are, a Merry X-mas from the A-House ohana — may we be blessed with good health and happiness this holiday season and into 2017 — a victory today would be the “icing” to an up/down season.

will continue to look at the South End zone for for potential recruits — yes, yes, I know it’s a “dead period”, but wat da hey!!

  20. A-House December 24, 2016 10:41 am

with UH moving VB to the Big West Conference in 2017 — Tuileta won’t play against his former team mates at USC

hope he has used 2016 to grow stronger and faster.
