Training camp: Day 5

In a dress rehearsal for tomorrow’s full-pad scrimmage, the Warriors were in shells for situational plays during today’s fifth practice of training camp. Quarterbacks Ikaika Woolsey, Aaron Zwahlen, Beau Reilly, Dru Brown, Cole Brownholtz and Cole McDonald each took a turn at the controls.

Of note:

> After right wideout Marcus Kemp mishandled a Woolsey pass, the Warriors went right back to Kemp on the next play. Woolsey scrambled right, then fired to Kemp for a touchdown.

> Brownholtz demonstrated his range of throwing motions. On one play, Brownholtz eyed a receiver on his right, then turned and fired to Ammon Barker on the left. The next play, Brownholtz zig-zagged to the right, then side-armed a pass to H-back Kaiwi Chung.

> Diocoemy Saint Juste is healthy — and having a remarkable week. His strength, low style and quickness make him a running threat, even on third-and-long. He is difficult to catch, even when defenders are trying to make two-hand-touch tags.

> Cornerback Cameron Hayes got a turn on the No 1 defense. He had man coverage on Kemp, wideout Keelan Ewaliko and, even, slotback John Ursua. Hayes made an interception on a tipped pass.

> On the other side, cornerback Rojesterman Farris made a leaping pick.

> At 6-2 and 235 pounds,Tevarua Eldridge does not have prototypical size for a 4-3 defensive end. But he is a smart player who has made smart plays the past two practices. He has taken a turn as a No. 1 end.

Has anyone received their tickets to the Aussie game yet? If so where are you sitting? I’m trying to figure out where we might be located when we receive ours.

ST, thanks for the update on the players, especially Ikaika and Brownholtz. Me too, I think maybe Brownholtz has a chance to start. Looking forward to tomorrow’s practice where I can see all of the players in pads.

    haka @ 4 –

“sleeper grail” I love it – you watch his highlights and it does look that way don’t it. QBs are loaded.

I hope we can see a healthy DSJ all season. I know we haven’t seen his full potential yet. He can fly. We have a great crew at RB so far.

Great tidbits, Mr. Tsai. Lotsa little things can make great things.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    Warrior Dave:

MasaBoy and I were in Alaska week of 7/17/for 6 days.

Thursday it turned cold – maybe high 40s, but Friday it got colder and windier – then Saturday, it was raining, cold, and wind blowing – had difficulty getting to the boat for our ride to Juneau.

I actually lost weight because of the “no seconds” for breakfast and dinner AND no snacking all day except to munch on ginger to keep the “pomp” in control!!!

got to talk with you on fishing in/around Ketchikan (sp) – met a “fly” fisherman who said good things about fishing in that area

    Scrimmage observation:

Everybody pray Dru Brown wins the starting job. That’s if you want to see points on the scoreboard.

  29. clyde August 6, 2016 9:40 am

Thanks, Jeezy. I’ve only seen Brown’s highlight video and an interview, but something about him stood out from the get-go. I think he has the “it” factor, the swagger. I know Stephen likes him, too.

  30. AllG August 6, 2016 9:46 am

Hoping one of the JC QBs can win the job. Main thing is they need to get the play book down and get to know strengths and weakness of their receivers. I wasn’t overly impressed with any of the QBs from the Spring.

  31. Jeezy33 August 6, 2016 9:59 am

    29. He’s very unorthodox and will never look good in. 7 on 7 type structured setting. But when pass rush is on and a play is needed to be made, he was the 1 qb I saw potentially have that intangible to make something happen. None of the QBs could move the ball really besides Brown today. You put him in a Oregon type offense where he can read the D, and he makes a play. John Ursua is just really good and he knows how to find him. He has a long way to go but I am praying that he wins the job before cal game. Woolsey looks ok but it’s same ole game managing type play that won’t put up a lot of points.

  32. Da Punchbowl Kid August 6, 2016 10:31 am

    Thanks jeezy!

    Haka… “sleeper grail” 😉
