Tough sledding
After this morning’s practice, strength/conditioning coordinator Bubba Reynolds emphasized the teamwork in workouts.
“We hunt together, we eat together,” Reynolds said.
The Warriors have made significant progress from a year ago, particular in the sled drill, in which a player pushes a weighted sled (weighing up to 200 pounds) 20 yards. Last year, each player started the offseason program doing six 20-yard reps of sled pushes and ended with 10 reps. Today, the players each did 16 20-yard reps. The reps increase to 18 next week. Reynolds also participated in the sled push.

Foist?
Nice pics!
Oh what fun it is to push,
a one Warrior open sled!
Go Warriors!
Dang drill looks brutal…but necessary.
LOI tomorrow…beginning of the future.
Take the next step….
Signing Day 2moro
UMass Aug. 26th.
Looking good Warriors! Thanks for the pics, Stephen!
Tomorrow!
as Doris Day sang:
Que sera, sera
what ever will be will be
mine is not to see
Que sera, sera
perhaps, UH will be blessed with extra good news on 2/1/2017!!!
Would be nice if high school prospects in the cold Midwest
could see ST’s pics—do they want to do this in the freezing
cold? Or in Hawaii sunshine 🙂
Lois Manin is now assistant athleletic director / chief of staff, per SA.
The “hyenas” have left the rock.
Truth will be known tomorrow morning.
Yes, she is.
Those aren’t ordinary sleds.
They are altered to make the drag more difficult.
So, yeah, pushing a weighted sled is harder than it appears. Especially 16 reps.
#7 indoor practice facility makes it warmer there then here this morning
Despite poaching — and threats of poaching — when it’s all said and done, UH will have filled its immediate recruiting needs.
It was 61 degrees this morning.
It looks like they use different amounts of weight for different positions. Is that correct, and how much weight do they push?
Thanks for the pics Stephen. Man the overwhelming majority of the boys look in top shape. Couple braddahs gotta hit some salads but overall impressive stuff. Just hope they don’t screw up their backs pushing that sled! Would be nice to see some pics of the blog host out there doing some training too. Gotta take care that heart Mr. Tsai.
Jus got home a half hour ago, Wah, no recruiting news ! Okay, tomorrow it is.
Y’all gotta check out Coach Rolo’s twitter account. Just put out his top 10 things to ponder when deciding to protect pride rock or go someplace else. Gotta love it! Way to go Coaches and Hanapa’a baby!
Think how hard Siberian Huskies have to work
pulling a sled with someone on it for miles. It’s indogmane.
MileHi I agree funny stuff. Some stuff not so funny when you have to live it!
Stephen, Please Answer!!! If Kesi Ah Hoy is going to Oregon State, then why doesnt he make the commit publicly. Some of us fans here thinks we still have chance. Please clarify.
I believe the coaches at UH know where the recruits are going, and have already have commitments to fill the class. It’s just not for public consumption right now and there are poaches still out there. Patience, patience. Rolo and Co. will have a terrific recruiting class with athletes, size, and youth.
Rolo has been silent on the #hanapaa twitter announcements. Probably a good idea to keep the poachers at bay.
I trust that the coaches have their plan B’s lined up in the event pen does not get put to paper. We’ve seen it time and again, and there have also been some signing day surprises and post-signing day surprises as well.
Even with the lack of local commits, this looks like one of the more solid classes in recent memory.
#20, Ah Hoy is the guy to make his decision on his football future on which is the best for him. I hope he stays home, but either way wish him the best. The only thing I don’t want to see is that stupid dang “hat” thing!!!
Congratulations to Lois Manin! Well deserved!
Never met her in person but she helped me a lot when she was with Aloha stadium. She was very helpful with much attention to detail. I mentioned I recognized her name through ST’s blog when she was with UH. I could sense the smile in her emails. I had the feeling she would find her way back to the lower campus one day. 🙂
I read Ferd Lewis’s column on Hawaii and the Pro Bowl today.
Not surprising.
But I still question why we paid the NFL $5 million every year to hold it here. They should be paying us… or us only giving them a discount on Aloha Stadium rental . Yup, need more transparency at the HTA.
ST, can you tell us about what time tomorrow coach Rolo will announce the recruit signing class?
Thanks MileHIWarrior, Rolo’s top ten
reasons for staying home LOL 🙂

Hope he thinks about that
for himself when other colleges
come calling for him…
Maybe I missed it somewhere, if I did, my bad, but how come no one can answer
what is Fred Ulu-Perry’s status? Just wondering cause he should be quite a difference maker. Appreciate it if someone knows the scoops. I know there is alot of players on the team, but to me, just the same ones are getting their kodak moments.
Mermea officially de-commits:
https://twitter.com/anthonymermea/status/826648091528826881
Mermea: Tough loss so late in the game. Hyenas are true predators.
Luv the thing about the hyenas leaving the rock!…LOL
One recruit leaves another takes his place. It’s next man up! Who knows how the recruits will turn out? Can only point to Coach Miano…walk on and NFL caliber player. We have a lot of hidden gems in our recruit class.
IMUA WARRIORS!
Well, they got Mermea’s teammate instead, and he WANTS to be a Warrior. Thanks, Stephen.
Well, it is what it is, so I am not going to worry about it. Rolo will find some decent players to plug in. He will hold on to a solid group come tomorrow. We are still in a transition. Continue to win, get increasing national attention, and “they will come”.
Perhaps some de-commits will come to regret it, as they may end up buried on the depth chart and not sniff playing time and their teams may end up being a loser.
As far as local players leaving and not considering the UH, same thing and as others have mentioned, it won’t help them find a decent job in Hawaii and someday they may be desperate to return, but cannot. The other reality is that more often than not, the degree programs they selected are akin to the value of a liberal arts education, so unless you have better connections because you played here, the opportunities are far less than say an engineering degree. Reality can bite.
Bummer Mermea seemed like he was going to be a good get. Hopefully we can replace him with equally talented or better player.
Greeley should be in Mermea’s ear right up until they sign their letters.
Really getting worried about our depth on the DL … only 1 recruit thus far
LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS !!!!!
Hope this gives some Nevada recruits to re-think their commitment tomorrow…..

Like I said, there are very good football players all over the place. The trek is to find them. Example, Viane Moala was lightly recruited and he produced as a true freshman. He has a big upside at 6’7″ and 290. He will be better and better with added coaching, more experience, and as he fills up his body. By the time he’s a junior he’ll probably 6’8″ and 310 lbs. and an NFL prospect. Somebody de-commits you can always find a player equal to or better than the last one. There’s something said about finding that “diamond in the rough.” Keep working and find that special player who can elevate the program, ala Colt Brennan. Greeley is rated higher than Mermea. If Hawaii can get Wilson too, I can see a two TE formation regularly.
#39 … “Kapakahi” … the really sad part of this story is that a “local boy” Timmy Chang was the one who made the call … talk about “pilau” and “mainland style” … UNR better not try to recruit the local kids … this story needs to be passed around locally …
LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS !!!!!

I don’t think it was his fault. I think it was the head coach that made the call and told Timmy to call him about it. The head coach will always have the last say.
@41
You have to remember, Chang is just taking orders and doing the dirty work for the head hancho.
I get that scholies get reneged for whatever reason but at least own up to it and be accountable. Feel bad for Timmy cuz I’m sure that’s now how he is.
Been looking for signing day central-no luck. Even though it’s 9 am CST hoped the page would be up
