Super Regional postponed

The Super Regional between UH and Alabama has been postponed until tomorrow because of today’s thunderstorm.

Game are scheduled for 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. (Hawaii time), and will air on ESPNU.

If necessary, Game 3 will be Sunday.

ESPN did something about building a fantasy NFL team. I’m bored, I figured I’d give it a shot using UH players from the past 11 years.

Rules are this: 53-player roster. Players have to be relatively in shape, so that includes guys in the pros, recently retired, recent UH graduates. That last item is known as the Nick Rolovich Rule. I asked sportscaster Robert Kekaula for suggestions. He mentioned Rolo. So I called Rolo, asked him if he could throw the rock. “Of course,” Rolo said, mentioning that he does 200 push-ups a day. (Not certain if they’re consecutive.) So Rolo’s in.

So here’s my team:

QB: Colt Brennan,
QB: Nick Rolovich.
QB: Shawn Withy-Allen.

RB: Nate Ilaoa,
RB: West Keliikipi
RB: Chad Kapanui
RB: Daniel Libre

WO: Jason Rivers
WO: Ashley Lelie
WO/SB: Greg Salas
WO: C.J. Hawthorne
SB: Davone Bess
SB: Chad Owens
SB: Ryan Grice-Mullins

T: Wayne Hunter
T/G Tala Esera
T/G: Laupepa Letuli
T/G: Aaron Kia
C: Samson Satele
C/G: John Estes
G: Kynan Forney
G: Vince Manuwai
G/C: Hercules Satele

NT: Lawrence Wilson
NT Isa‘ako Sopoaga
NT/DT: Vaughn Meatoga

DE: Melila Purcell III
DE: Ikaika Alama-Francis
DE: Keala Watson
DE: Michael Lafaele

OLB: Travis LaBoy
OLB: David Veikune
OLB: Pisa Tinoisamoa
OLB: Adam Leonard
OLB: Francis Maka
OLB: Fetaiagogo Fonoti

ILB: Solomon Elimimian
ILB: Baze Soares
ILB: Jeff Ulbrich
ILB: R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane
ILB:  Timo Paepule

CB: Kenny Patton
CB: Jeramy Bryant
CB/NB: Ryan Mouton
CB: Ryan Keomaka
NB: Richard Torres
SS:  Jake Patek
SS: Spencer Smith
FS: Leonard Peters
FS: Keao Monteilh

PK: Dan Kelly
P: Mat McBriar
LS: Tanuvasa Moe

Explanation: Where’s Tim Chang? Of course, he’s one of the top three. But it just wouldn’t be right to let him run the scout team. The NFL trend is the 3-4 ,so that’s this team’s defense. I know Keala Watson was an inside guy, but in the 3-4, it’s better to have DT-like guys on the outside. Michael Lafaele sometimes played too upright. He’s perfect at DE.  David Veikune and Travis LaBoy will be used as stand-up rushers, like Jason Taylor. There also is an emphasis on special teams, which is why Francis Maka, Fetaiagogo Fonoti, Timo  Paeipule, R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane, Richard Torres, Spencer Smith and Ryan Keomaka secured roster spots. Jake Ingram is the school’s greatest long-snapper, but Tanuvasa Moe is a great tackler (and McBriar is not) and he also can play linebacker.

Your arguments?

Happy birthday to Brie Adams.

I am still hoping to view the coach mac interview — when the transition is complete I would have to guess that all the video that is currently being hosted by livestream will be lost unless they keep getting paid. ST, do you know if there is an archive or any plans to preserve the video?

Re-posting in case people did not read the end of yesterday’s blog.

The MWC has contacted the media in Boise to provide them with a coordinated effort to cover their meeting that begins in a little more than a week. I’m sure that it is just a *coincidence* (cough, cough) that the MWC is expected to decide upon expansion in that meeting and they just happen to be making sure that the Boise media covers the meeting. It is also an amazing coincidence that BSU’s AD knows the details of the MWC TV deal and set up an ESPN game to start the 2011 season.

Boise State has a relationship with the conference as the only school from the WAC to join in with efforts to change the BCS structure. And the Mountain West appears to be very concerned with making sure that we here in Boise understand that their current television partnerships are very beneficial for teams in the conference, providing more money for member schools and more exposure for sports programs besides football… And they’re right.

I’ve said it before… and I’ll say it again (or write it, as a the case may be)… Where’ there’s smoke, there’s fire. There is simply too much smoke to think there isn’t any fire here, considering all the attention to detail by the conference here.

The Mountain West presidents will meet June 6-8th in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. In preparation of the event, the mountain west has contacted local media here in Boise and is providing us with a coordinated effort to cover the meetings.

When speaking with Boise State Athletic Director Gene Bleymaier, he did not acknowledge that an invite is forthcoming, but I did ask him if he thinks the Mountain West’s TV partnerships with the Mtn., CBS College Sports and Versus are beneficial.

Bleymaier said, “It certainly hasn’t hurt BYU, TCU or Utah in their rankings. And then you look at what they’ve done in basketball, and they have four teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament… Compared to two from the PAC 10… They’re getting some exposure.”

Bleymaier went on to say the Mountain West reaches 74-million TV viewers, and the 2011 game with Ole Miss will be covered by ESPN regardless of what conference Boise State is a part of.

For those of you who don’t know Brie…she’s a young lady who is very energetic. She volunteers her time along with her mom, at all the HS Track Meets. Even during a long rehab period for a foot injury, she managed to hobble around to all the Meets and attend Tsaiko functions with her mom, JaM.

So, again, Happy Birthday to a very special young woman.

At this point, since UH & the WAC aren’t in a position of strength, UH has to play their part by winning big. It starts with the football team. A good showing will enhance their attractiveness.

Garret….and we have to start playing when people are watching, not when they’re sleeping dreaming of NFL Sunday. As I stated in the last, irrelavant post prior to this new one, no one will care about or it will such a lag effect that climbing into a shadow of a spotlight may come too slowly for us.

Fan will have to make sacrifices if they want to cheer a team. If heaven forbid, we find ourselves without a conference after the realignment dust settles, some blame will have to be on us. Saturday night games are a hinderence to recognition on the larger stage and yet we cling to it, selfishly and balme other matters for not being noticed.

  22. Garret May 28, 2010 7:58 am

    Buffoman,

The trouble is that the USC home game is set with ESPN and the WAC games are set…so, the only games you could move to earlier times are the D-IAA game and the UNLV game at the end of the season. Nobody will care if UH beats a D-IAA team badly, so moving that game time doesn’t matter, and the UNLV game is too late in the season to matter.

I read your post at the end of the previous blog and do like the idea of earlier game times, but I don’t see how that could be implemented for many games.

Another problem with moving the games earlier is that ESPN will be busy showing SEC and Big 10 games then so UH would never be able to get on national TV. ESPN exposure is the most important thing for UH when they do well, but ESPN won’t show UH if they play early games.

  23. Da Punchbowl Kid May 28, 2010 8:07 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Happy Birthday to the lovely and talented Brie!

    GO WAHINE!!!

  24. Buffoman May 28, 2010 8:07 am

Garret Right, but as JJ once attempted to do with the suggestion of moving the games to an earlier time slot, it wasn’t so much for instant TV (I agree with you, they won’t show games as currently listed) it was more about the scores. Sportswriter don’t see UH scores until they’re done posting the rest of the nation’s college result. JJ wanted us to be in the mix and that could only occur if we played early enough for that to happen. And that was when he was winning. He wanted UH to be recognized in the same breath as BSU and FSU. He got tremendous push back as people said winning was enough, and that was the end of that.

  25. Da Punchbowl Kid May 28, 2010 8:12 am

    Oh yeah…

    Top Twennyfive!

  26. Garret May 28, 2010 8:12 am

    Buffoman,

I agree that moving the game times earlier could be good. For example, when UH has 6:05pm kickoffs, USA Today’s score tracker has that as a *Sunday* game because that is after midnight Eastern Time during part of the season. So, it won’t show up on the same page as the rest of the football scores.

UH actually solved this problem by moving the games to 5pm last year, though they are being moved back to 5:30pm because of fan feedback. Some earlier games could be good and I’d bet that some WAC teams would like that because it would make it easier for them to leave on Saturday.

  27. Da Punchbowl Kid May 28, 2010 8:12 am

    Howzit Buffo, Garret and Liz!

  28. Watch Godgifu May 28, 2010 8:20 am

    Happy birthday to Brie!

Afternoon games – even late afternoon games – certainly would help Hawaii in more recognition. The sun burns even more fiercely in the States in the Deep South and Southwest so that complaint by Hawaii fans(?) shouldn’t be highly considered.

What Hawaii needs is a consistently winning record – and the fans will come, rain or shine!

  29. Pomai May 28, 2010 8:28 am

I agree with the early start, say no later than 5:00 pm, but even with that and all other movement an what ever, if we don’t win then it won’t matter, the whole key to us being more than what we are now is winning.

I have to believe Carl Benson is currently working on the assumption that Boise is gone and has found suitable candidates to fill the hole. Garret am I correct in believing a conference needs eight teams to be viable? Of course this would put Hawaii in a bad position of looking for another football opponent. I’m afraid due to our weak conference their are few proactive choices. I’m with Garret, we need to win NOW.

On Wednesday, there was no title next to the May 26 date on either of our computers. I finally was able to get to that day’s blog by clicking The Warrior Beat title to the left of Stephen’s picture. That lists all the of his posts with the most recent at the top and a click-to at the bottom of each day’s selection for all of your postings. That worked.

PS: Everyone has been notified one way or t’other about their future with the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, but they are not even supposed to let their spouses know until the general public is notified next week. I found this out by speaking with two other reporters, but I suspect that some spouses already know.

  49. Richie May 28, 2010 10:03 am

I think the departure of Ron Lee will have a lot bigger impact on our program than most people might think. Ron Lee was a critical component as a receivers coach in the run and shoot offense. He coached Ashley Leslie, Chad Owens, Davonne Bess, Jason Rivers, and Ryan Grice-Mullen to name a few and he is the one who really taught them how to play the position. Obviously, he has not been appreciated much since Mack took over and, in fact, has been unfairly criticized and blamed for some of the team’s problems over the last two years. Coach Ron Lee is a class individual and he certainly would never articulate the real reasons for his departure.

Just a gut feeling, but it would not be a huge surprise to me if Ron Lee ends up as the receivers coach at SMU. I think June would certainly make adjustments in his staff as he certainly understands Ron Lee’s importance as a coach.

In the meantime, we are left without a receiver’s coach, and Ashley Leslie cannot actually “coach” in his position as a student manager as some have suggested.

Bess explains why he isn’t going to sell his #15 to Brandon Marshall.

Bess told me today he has no plans to give up the number he took when he reached the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2008. It doesn’t matter that he’d never worn the number before — not in college or high school or anywhere else.

“It’s been a long journey, and I just feel like I had to start from ground zero with that number,” Bess told me. “It’s just a lot deeper than what it seems to be. … For me to go through what I went through with that number, it speaks measures. … It meant I overcame a lot and I’m still trying to overcome more. I’m my own biggest critic. I’m just trying to get better and better and better.”

Bess and a friend back in Hawaii, where he starred in college, are producing T-shirts with images of Bess, the Aloha and Sunshine states and, of course, the No. 15. Proceeds will benefit Bess’s newly formed charity, which also will prominently feature the No. 15, although it’s still in the name-selection process.

Bess probably could have gotten Marshall to fork over $50,000 or more for the right to wear the number he made famous in Denver. Still, it’s refreshing in this money-first era to see that some things simply aren’t for sale.

“That’s just me,” Bess said. “I think that’s a [sign] of my character, period. Everything isn’t about money. Obviously whatever he offered me would have been great money. I could have definitely used it. But with me some things are deeper than just the materialistic things.”

  54. Garret May 28, 2010 10:39 am

And then there are the kids out there with “Bess 15″ Dolphins jerseys.

    “That’’s motivation, too,” Bess said.

  55. NorthShoreFan May 28, 2010 10:52 am

Bess’s statement says a lot about his character..UH was truly fortunate to have had such a fine athlete and human being to have represented the 808.

  67. A-House May 28, 2010 11:30 am

In the past 25 years, the most consistent itme about UH football has been their inability to be consistenly good and have winning seasons.

Most notable has been the 1992 Holiday Bowl and 2006 and 2007 seasons where the team did well. However, what followed has not been pretty to look at.

Why is this? Coaches? Players? “Offensive/defensvie System”? An enigma for sure!

On the other hand, BSU has been almost automatic, but very few, if any, of their players make it to the next level while a “cruddy” team like Hawaii puts many up there. Why?

  68. BG May 28, 2010 11:40 am

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIE!!! A very special young lady

  69. […] The Warrior Beat| UH football, University of Hawaii athletics … […]

  70. Garret May 28, 2010 11:41 am

    A-House,

I did a quick Google search and found that it is a *myth* that UH has a lot of players in the NFL nad BSU doesn’t get many. This list is 2 years old but at that point in time it looks like BSU had close to the same number of former players in the NFL as UH.

You wouldn’t expect to see many NFL players from BSU from the years before they entered the WAC because they were a D-IAA school. However, they have rapidly been getting more and more NFL prospects.

One thing to note is that BSU’s recruiting improved significantly in the past 5 years due to their success. They basically had only 1 senior starter last year (he was drafted in the 1st round by the Jets), but they will have a lot of players drafted in the next 2 years.

So, it isn’t that BSU doesn’t get many players in the next level…it is that *Hawaii fans* don’t hear about BSU’s pro players as much as they hear about UH’s pro players. If I’m not mistaken, BSU already has more 1st round NFL draft picks even though they have been in D-IA football for many decades less than UH.

  75. madeinhawaii May 28, 2010 12:07 pm

    A-House,

I think it boils down to community and Institutional commitment to excellence in the program. If you have that, then the coaches can simply worry about building the best program they possibly can without the distractions. Our recruiting budget was a joke till recently and even today, it’s probably smaller than most D-1 schools when adjusted for travel expenses. After years of dissuse, we finally have a real practice field… how did it ever get that bad? The athletic department is finally getting a much needed facelift that has been long over due. Wasn’t there a lot of mold issues last season too? How can you compete with that? UH does very well for what it has.. but, simply put, it needs more to do more.

  76. madeinhawaii May 28, 2010 12:08 pm

I remember the Yuval Katz volleyball team fighting for the championships. He was a super hero. I wasn’t disappointed when they couldn’t win the big one. Just watching his magtc was worth it. Even the Derek Tatsuno lead bows way back than. Could not win the college world series but Derek was good enough to make it all worth that wonderful time. T’he undefeated Warriors of Sugar Bowl 2077. Georgia was definitely a bulldog ripping our pants with dog bites. But I respected Colt Brennan more after that defeat than ever before. Like Rocky continuously getting knocked and punched to the ground by Apollo Creed, Colt like Rocky kept getting back on his feet. Getting knocked down, getting back on their feet time after time. It showed me the guts of a great Warrior never to give up. If Brett Favre got slammed to the ground that many times, he would have left the game. I believe if Dan Marino got mistreated that badly, he would have left the game too. But not Colt. Eventually JJ got to feel bad and pulled Colt out. Alabama is no fluke. 50 victories. Home run power and speed to burn. I will love our wahine softball team win or lose. It will take a super effort. May the spirits of Yuval Katz, Derek Tatsuno, Colt Brennan, infiltrate the wahine’s bodies and boost them on to victory! It can be done. I believe! Book em Gibbo!

  96. Garret May 28, 2010 12:36 pm

Idaho’s Athletic Director seems to indicate in his blog today that he thinks that BSU going to the MWC is a done deal…the MWC meeting where they are expected to invite BSU is during the week of June 7th.

Everything the media has written and publicized is basically what we know at this time. The Big 10 is looking at expanding to 12, 14 or 16 teams. Any movement by the Big-10 could impact the Big-12, which could impact the Mountain West and ultimately the WAC, and the Big East, which could impact Conference USA, and possibly the Sun Belt. As you can see, after the first move, the dominos will start to fall.

The WAC needs to have options to replace schools in the likely event conference shuffling occurs. How many schools, which schools and the timing still is a question mark. My prediction is a non-BCS conference will make the first move and it will be sometime during the week of June 7th!

    FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS!!!

    THOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!

    (I’m losing my mind!!!)

  99. Garret May 28, 2010 12:37 pm

He goes over the WAC’s options to replace BSU. It is interesting that no D-IAA team could move up quickly, so they could join the conference but would count as the 1 D-IAA game that could be counted for each WAC team.

So let’s get down to business and discuss what all of this means to the WAC. In the event the WAC needs to add teams, there are some procedural matters that need to be understood. At this time, there is a moratorium in place until Aug. 7, 2011 which precludes any institution from pursuing Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) membership unless the institution pursued membership before the Aug. 9, 2007 adoption of the moratorium. Currently, no football-playing FCS schools that would fit the WAC’s demographic started the reclassification process before Aug. 9, 2007. We have heard California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo), University of California at Davis (UC-Davis), Sacramento State, Portland State and Montana all are considering starting the reclassification process once the moratorium passes.

Assuming any of the above schools would start the process, each would need to submit an application prior to June 1, 2011 in order to begin the process during the 2011-12 academic year. The entire process takes two years and the requesting school must meet all FBS requirements, which includes increasing football scholarships to 85 and requiring each institution to sponsor 16 sports, during the time period. From a practical point of view, a current FCS school could be admitted into and participate in the WAC during the 2011-12 academic year. The school would be eligible for all NCAA Division I championships in all other sports except football. For football, a school could play a full conference schedule in 2011 with those games counting as the one FCS game currently permitted for FBS schools. In 2012, all the games versus the school would be counted as FBS games. The school would be eligible for post-season bowl games following the 2013 season.

  101. Garret May 28, 2010 12:38 pm

His reasoning is sound about why the Pac-10 might not want to expand now.

It appears Pac-10 expansion at this time may not happen because of the recent television contract negotiated by the ACC. So why would a television agreement, reached by the ACC, influence the Pac-10? It is simple. Money! The ACC’s new deal, which takes effect for the 2011-12 school year, more than doubles its existing contract and is now worth $155 million annually. The fact Fox was interested enough to join the fray and create a bidding war bodes well for the Pac-10, which will be renegotiating its TV deal beginning in January 2011.

Also boding well for the Pac-10 is that ESPN did not get the NCAA Tournament broadcast rights and, as a result, has money to spend. So do the math. The ACC has an estimated $88 million more dollars to divide among its membership without expanding! The only reason the Pac-10 expressed interest in expanding was to make it more attractive when it re-negotiates its television contract this winter. In theory, by adding some attractive teams (Utah and Colorado) and creating a 12-team league with a conference championship game (similar to the Big 12), the Pac-10 could command more television revenue. However, why expand when the possibility exists to more than double your revenue without expanding? It appears the Pac-10’s revenue ceiling is higher than the ACC’s and its deal could more than double from $43 million to more than $100 million.

    ARM WRESTLING CONTEST!!!

    I think we’ll be favored! 😎

  127. Buffoman May 28, 2010 1:27 pm

Okay, so if bad weather is stopping us from softball, let’s get back to talking about UH, the WAC and beyond. Here’s another thought, let’s go develop our own television market. Let’s take japan. They love Hawaii, they love baseball, softball, volleyball, know soccer, tennis, and starting to get into football. Why not go there once or twice a year with a team of the season and play against them. build a relationship. develop some level of television coverage. At some point, with that spiffy “H” they may actually marry the UH as their own wanting to watch “their” adopted American team compete. So we send the tape or if they like live feed of our games. Build a sponsor base, expand a market. More important lock down the relationship. That will take dollars but if it means dollars in sponsorship, invest.

Now when Pac 10 wants to expand, we have something. We may not be the best comeptiton wise, but we have what they all want – market.

I’m sure Garret will find flaw with this, but hey, I don’t much of a box to work in.

  128. NorthShoreFan May 28, 2010 1:31 pm

    Buffoman..no foget Australia, Samoa too….

  129. Garret May 28, 2010 1:36 pm

    Buffoman,

Developing the Japan market *is* a good idea. However, maybe they just don’t care about college sports in the US? JD and Mack went all around Japan and nothing seemed to come of it, though JD did mention that UH games are shown on a delayed basis in some parts of Japan.

Notre Dame went to Japan around the same time as JD and Mack and got a lot more publicity than UH did…but I don’t think anything happened for them either.

One important thing to note is that Hawaiian Airlines has started a flight between Honolulu and Japan–that could help UH get cheap or free flights there.

Unfortunately, when Japanese Universities seem to look for research collaborations, they seem to pick Pac-10 schools. One huge deal comes to mind between the leading solar power research group in Japan (University of Tokyo) and Arizona State, with the solar power research already getting $100 million in grant recently. It can also be argued that Stanford already has more of the Japan market than UH does, and U-Dub has a lot of ties to the Japanese interests located in Seattle…

  130. LizKauai m/ May 28, 2010 1:39 pm

jm- at this rate you’ll be home to watch the game live!

    Latest eta: 2pm

  131. jm2375 May 28, 2010 1:40 pm

    2:15!!!

  132. Garret May 28, 2010 1:40 pm

Australia and Samoa would be good markets, but I don’t know how UH could get tangible results from there within the next year. If Jesse Williams had been a prominent part of UH’s D over the past few seasons that might have helped with the Australia market…but UH does have a couple of other players from there. Trouble is, OL and P positions aren’t normally highlighted in TV broadcasts…

TV sets in other countries won’t help the Pac-10 or MWC get more money for their conference TV deals, so it probably doesn’t matter to the conferences. It could help UH recruiting, but I don’t see how it would bring money to a conference…

  171. mctruck May 28, 2010 3:11 pm

somebody must have moved Alabama, bwaaahahaha!!!

  172. Pomai May 28, 2010 3:11 pm

This game should not be played, play one tomorrow and double up Sunday.

  173. al May 28, 2010 3:12 pm

its really 8:12 pm in alabama since they are in the central time zone.

  174. NorthShoreFan May 28, 2010 3:12 pm

Weather still bad….may have to try and get games in tomorrow and Sunday…if not able to finish or play games…then higher seed will advance…only speculating the scenario..from a birdie so…

Yup Wahine went back to hotel..was snacking on chips and pickles?..now das not energy fuud is it?

  175. mctruck May 28, 2010 3:13 pm

Well, BaseBows start in an hour…

  180. al May 28, 2010 3:17 pm

ok, ok, so i ordered the thunder and lightning so the game would be delayed. now i can watch it live and not worry about lizk and ralphie blurting out the scores.

  181. labrat May 28, 2010 3:18 pm

The forecast for tomorrow is bad too. They should just fly them over here.

“if not able to finish or play games…then higher seed will advance..”

    Is this for real?

  187. Kazz ($100.00) May 28, 2010 3:26 pm

    NorthShoreFan,

Worst case scenario… If the weather is like that through Sunday and into early next week, I DARE the NCAA to justify advancing the higher seed if they cannot make up the games.

The talking heads of softball at ESPN will probably justify it too saying that Bama would have won anyway! 🙄

  188. Ralph May 28, 2010 3:26 pm

    99club trans back on

  189. Curt May 28, 2010 3:27 pm

I hope we get this first game in today. If not, will the third game be eliminated? If so, that would not be good for Hawaii as all Alabama would have to do is win one game to advance. I no likee that if that’s true. I think we really want that Friday game to be played.

  190. Ralph May 28, 2010 3:29 pm

Lawrie back on her game, 5 Ks out of 6 outs. But can Washington score more runs. Struggled through out the regional in scoring runs for Lawrie.

  191. Ralph May 28, 2010 3:32 pm

we have saturday and sunday to play 3 games, no problem, unless the lightning sticks around for 3 days. I don’t see why they can’t play thru the week days next week to determine a winner, but the winner would have a disadvantage at the world series-no rest or acclimation

  192. Kazz ($100.00) May 28, 2010 3:35 pm

    Pomai,

If the weather is so bad down there that they miss the next few days and Bama advances by DEFAULT, that’s the sports equivalent of wealthy bank clients getting free passes on account violations and compliance issues.

  193. 99club May 28, 2010 3:37 pm

Neither team is in school and the next round isn’t until Thursday. They should be able to play the 2 out of 3, no problem.

  194. chopsueyboy May 28, 2010 3:38 pm

Sooners Take Game One Of Super Regionals, 6-1
Oklahoma used five homers to beat the top-ranked Washington softball team, 6-1, in the first game of the NCAA Super Regionals Thursday night at Husky Softball Stadium.

  195. NorthShoreFan May 28, 2010 3:41 pm

That is just a scenario I heard…if they are not able to play any games.. or if not able to complete the series..weather is looking pretty bad this weekend…just got to hope they can get the games in.

  196. 99club May 28, 2010 3:42 pm

Top of the 10th, HPU-Angelo State still tied at 0-0.

  197. Ralph May 28, 2010 3:43 pm

Washington fans got their parkas out, lots of hoodies in the crowd and its summer. Even the umps are wearing jackets.

  198. NorthShoreFan May 28, 2010 3:43 pm

So what if the Wahine beat Bama in the first game and the series is washed out…will they advance?

  199. al May 28, 2010 3:44 pm

kazz…kazz. calm down. take a shot of tequila.

that would never happen. if by tomw the weather is unbearable and the forecast is no better. they can always move the game to manoa.

  200. al May 28, 2010 3:45 pm

realistically they would wait it out until the series is done. they could move it to a neutral site with better weather conditions.

  201. NorthShoreFan May 28, 2010 3:46 pm

Assume Ricketts pitched the Sooners first game…

    Bumped into Brie’s mom..had a nice conversation…

  202. A-House May 28, 2010 3:48 pm

BTW, who has the “final” call on canceling the game today?

    Ralph:

I get blank screen on ESPNU!

  203. Slugger May 28, 2010 3:48 pm

ESPNU was going to put the Oklahoma-Washington game on after the Arizona-BYU softball game. Had a nice lunch with SteveM & curveball.

Pleasant surprise at Genji…one of my elementary school classmates came in for lunch & to watch the game. Dean used to be a cheerleader at St. Louis. Funny thing is that another one of our classmates heard that he had died. And he heard that another classmate who is alive & well in D.C. had passed away. That’s really a good reason to go to class reunions…dispell the rumors.

Manana, the Wahine will WIN! GO WAHINE!!! Lanakila!!!

Will they be so desparate to start the game at 10 pm?

Is this a first for the Super Regional?

  217. NorthShoreFan May 28, 2010 4:03 pm

Michigan is out..lost two to Tennesee..Thursday and today..

    NCAA site says….
Poor weather that delayed play earlier at the SEC baseball tournament in Hoover is now taking aim at tonight’s opening game of the NCAA softball super regional between Alabama and Hawaii.

While rain hasn’t fallen yet, wind gusts and the threat of lightning are at the UA softball complex. As of now, the game scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. has now been pushed back 90 minutes and could go much later. Each time lightning strikes, the projected start time is pushed back. As it stands now, a start time is undetermined and officials are in a wait-and-see mode with the weather, which doesn’t appear to be getting any better.

Once they get started, you can follow the in-game action and up-to-the-minute weather updates on the BamaBeat’s Twitter feed.

Alabama is sending Kelsi Dunne (29-4, 1.89 ERA) to the circle tonight against Hawaii’s Stephanie Ricketts (27-7, 2.35).

    Here’s the starting lineups ….

    HAWAII (44-13)

How does the doubleheader affect pitching? I guess what Im wondering is who starts game 2?

  258. Slugger May 28, 2010 5:08 pm

Wish they would start the 1st game in Alabama earlier than 4 p.m…

    Brew808,

The moisture for a lot of the rain AZ sees comes from the Gulf of Mexico, but the thunderstorm production is partly due to the heating of the earth & the movement of moisture upward. This is from Wiki…

Thunderstorms result from the rapid upward movement of warm, moist air. They can occur inside warm, moist air masses and at fronts. As the warm, moist air moves upward, its cools, condenses, and forms cumulonimbus clouds that can reach heights of 10 km. As the rising air reaches its dew point, water droplets and ice form and begin falling the long distance through the clouds towards Earth’s surface. As the droplets fall, they collide with other droplets and become larger. The falling droplets create a downdraft of air that spreads out at Earth’s surface and causes strong winds associated with thunderstorms.

I think if they are playing at 4 p.m., there’s a high percentage chance of having a thunderstorm in the area. Early morning would really be better. Maybe AL is counting on the default win? Booooo!!!

  259. Ralph May 28, 2010 5:09 pm

Parnaby is the “wristier” of the two. Parnaby’s “bread and butter” are her curves and screws to the corners.

If Coolen said the “thicker” air favors these movement-based pitches, then Parnaby should feel ‘at home’.

  265. Slugger May 28, 2010 5:23 pm

  296. bigwiezie May 28, 2010 8:02 pm

did anyone hear on ESPN, that if they dont get the Wahine Super Regional in because of weather, Alabama will automatically advance to the WS because they are the #1 seed?

Someone told me this, i just want to confirm if someone else heard this as well.

  297. d1島 May 28, 2010 8:15 pm

Super Regional. If inclement weather limits play, every effort has been made to
complete competition by Sunday and competition cannot be completed by Monday, the
team that will advance to the finals will be based on the following:
    0 games played Highest seed
1 games played Winner of game 1
2 games played If each team has a loss, the highest seed

  298. d1島 May 28, 2010 8:16 pm

    WooHoo!

    WAY TO GO BASEBOWS!

  299. sjmacro May 28, 2010 8:16 pm

  302. protector May 28, 2010 8:18 pm

  303. d1島 May 28, 2010 8:19 pm

    whitey,

They advance to the Championship Game tomw.

  304. Curt May 28, 2010 8:20 pm

Because of the rules favoring the higher seed, we want the games played and settled on the field…not to mention that we just plain want to beat them!

  305. whitey May 28, 2010 8:21 pm

Congrats to the Rainbows on a great win. One more to go. Go get’um Bows.

Goto Google Images and find 2 good pictures that you can use. Try and find a good banner type picture for your TV Show, and try to find a good picture you can use right on the site that might influence people to take your survey to gain access to your show. Save these pictures.

    5. Make your own videos by downloading a season, opening the file in Windows Movie Maker, and mass producing clips by using storyboard and just dragging different sets of clips into a section that already has a title and credits with your link.

I introduced myself to cancer sticks when I was really young. It was the dumbest mistake of my life. Now I’m much older and I have coronary artery disease. I now know stopping is very hard. I used a huge number of the stopping aids but not one helped me. Then I heard about the electric cigarette. The e-cig uses a nicotine fluid that consists of simply nicotine. No toxic substances at all. They have fortunetly made all the difference. No longer sucking in cancerous substances feels completely fantastic!
