Still ticking
It’s been pretty surreal entering a new newsroom. But the old Star-Bulletin guys have been really welcoming, especially Paul Arnett, Dave Reardon, Paul Honda, and the desk guys. And I’m reunited with some of my old UH pals — Nadine Kam, George Lee, Dennis Oda, Lucy Oda, etc.
Sounds like there’s going to be a strong push to have a lot of UH football coverage. I’ll be the football beat guy, but Jason Kaneshiro, Billy Hull, “Ferd” Lewis and Reardon will be contributing regularly. There also will be two columnists — “Ferd” and Reardon — at every game.
And, of course, the blog will be an important part of the new newspaper.
There’s still sadness that many of my Advertiser family aren’t part of this. Dayton Morinaga, Stacy Kaneshiro, Leila Wai, Kyle Sakamoto, Stanley Lee, Kalani Takase, Brandon Masuoka, Wes Nakama, Clyde Mizumoto, Steve Kimura, Paul Carvalho, Stan Pusieski, and Da Clerks will be missed. Always.
I’m smelling chili peppers, so I’d better find some work to do.
* * * * *
“Ferd” and Ann Miller in our new digs:

Ran into former UH defensive tackle Michael Lafaele, who now is working for a marketing company. Lafaele and UH director of player personnel George Lumpkin will be conducting a Christian football camp. It will be three days and two nights, beginning July 1, and will be held at Waipahu High School. Call (808) 206-0312 for details.
Good morning ST
couldn’t find you on star advertiser
OK – #2.
Howdy Hawaii!
AL: Apparently I was the last poster on the HA site (#2243).
You owe me!!!!
David Veikune is being praised for his progress this offseason. Hopefully he can earn a spot in the rotation at inside LB.
OK, I’m disoriented.
It appears that the blog is on both the old site and the new site.
Deep breaths, deep breaths.
Maybe somebody will claim me.
Deep breaths, deep breaths.
What I do notice is that the entries aren’t numbered.
That might make it difficult for Avis.
Testing…..Testing 123…..
Folks, this blog appears to work. I just don’t know where we are.
Good Morning Tsaiko Family!
ST, where ever you are, we’ll find you!!!! 🙂
If Scott is in charge of the Online stuff, does that mean he can fix the blog format/template like he did the last time the Advertiser changed blog software?
I think this is where I am suppose to be?? (holding hand up)Is this the right room?
The MWC’s commissioner told their University Presidents to be prepared to have a quick meeting at any time to decide on expansion.
BSU may not want to go to the MWC if they get raided:
I HOPE Scott can make changes…. The font of this template is going to be a “challenge” for me to read…
Ronnie it looks like the same as the old one to me, except the names are a different font.
BSU’s President gave a funny analogy to their annual attempt at getting into the MWC.
Actual the total white background looks better to me.
The MWC will discuss expansion later this month.
Boise State is starting to sound pathetic.
Well, I’m on the other side. Didn’t have to change anything, just clicked on Warrior Beat on my favorites list and voila. Aloha Kakahiaka Tsaikos.
It also seems that the refresh rate is better than the old site.
Hi Pomai. Hi Garret.
Maybe it’s just my computer. I had to “Ctrl +” twice so it would be large enough to read.
its up and a running.
good night.
test 123 test 123, top twenty. when does summer camp start
expat BSu always was pathetic just like their biggest fan benson.
WATCH GODGIFU…did you fill out an entry form?
WATCH GODGIFU…you’ll also have to explain your handle and how you arrived at the name.
🙂 Sorry forgot to say “Morin ALL”
I hope we beat da poop outa BSu this year. >:)
Good Morning Tsaikos!!!!!!
Whoa al, insomia??????????????
Beating BSU would be the best thing for the WAC teams to do–then their value for conference expansion goes down and other WAC teams can get the prestige that BSU has now. Trouble is, WAC teams try every year to beat BSU…and don’t succeed often.
Folks, this is the same blog server as a few days ago, only the template has been changed.
Bear with us as we’re still working out all of the transition issues. I’ll see what I can do about getting the numbered comments added to this template.
Thanks!
Breaker Breaker One Nine,
10 – 4, Needs some numbers for referral of posts.
Down and out
There is a life after…yea ! G-morning ya’ll.
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,
It’s going to take a few days on this shake out cruise to figure out the bugs in the SA blogsphere. All the best to every blog dog today as we sniff out the spot.
Thanks Scott for all your hard work
Thanks Scott. We know you’ll get it fixed!
Good morning all!!
Just testing to see if I get on this morning.
Yeah, I guess I can keep my old handle, appropriate for an old f–t!
I join all the others in thanking you Scott for all your efforts in making this the best blog!
Hi Stephen looking forward to more great stuff from you.
Really good to see this blog continue. Not only provides entertainment. But fun, and for me with PTSD, a kind of therapy. The world would not be same without this blog. I am a lurker so hardly on but I enjoy watching other peoples comments. Good to see it continue and ST is here. All is good with the world. Giv em Gibbo!
Am I in the right place? Seems like the right place. The posts are kinda small.
AL: Tell you what – you let me know who I am but you have to figure out what the name means and where it would lead you by high noon today. Hint: Godgifu is Old English for”God’s gift”.
Just saying George Susuki or whoever does not count.
No coaching from the sidelines, please.
morning gang!
thanks Scott
Stephen – relax, fall camp will be here soon, please give the princess our best wishes
Notre Dame may hold the key for the whole conference expansion situation.
Great Morning All!
So according to Scott it’s the same playhouse, just a different paint job?
It’s kind of funny (not) that the NCAA doesn’t want student athlete’s to make money off their sports ability but yet it’s ok for all the big conferences to make billions off the student athlete’s back. 🙁
good morning tsaikos.
Good morning Tsai-kos!
On the new format today, I see. We need #s!!!! This blog gets too many comments to not have numbers! The last one had over 2200!
Thanks Scott Morifuji for all your hard work keeping the Tsai-meister sane.
i guess it works. good morning d1, there are sum hi’s and lo’s
Pomai – agree with you 1000%!!
Good Morning Tsaikos!
Can’t we just use the poster and time stamp for reference?
EX: d1 6:10: Yeah, how about adding some flames!
If Scott can add numbers, that’s easier, I guess. For us anyway. 🙂
Don’t know if will work for all of you but I uploaded some pictures of the Na Wahine arriving yesterday, just click on my name.
good morning ST, and welcome aboard your new job. hope you not getting lost.
Where are we?
Who are you?
Who am I?
Howzit whitey!
Glad you made it over here.
Have a terrific day erryboddy!
HiHo….
Pomai,
You know what has been one of the things that has pushed schools to try to maximize their Athletic Department revenue? Title IX. Schools had to add a bunch of women’s sports, which has opened up great opportunities and given us wonderful stories such as the Wahine softball team. However, women’s sports lose a *lot* of money for every D-IA school.
Where is that money supposed to come from? Every school was told they had to add a lot of women’s sports if they wanted to keep playing football, but the courts or the government aren’t providing the money to subsidize them. That forced every D-IA school to significantly increase the money they brought in!
We simply *cannot* have things both ways. We cannot criticize schools for increasing Athletic Department revenues significantly when we expect them to support a lot of sports that lose money. Even men’s sports lose money–baseball loses a LOT of money, men’s volleyball loses money (UH’s audited figures even shows that UH loses money on men’s volleyball). If we want to keep those sports also, the money has to come from somewhere!
Pac-10 schools in the past discussed how they might have to cut men’s volleyball because they couldn’t afford to subsidize it anymore. That would also allow them to cut a women’s sport at many schools. Cal took a *bus* when their football team played at UCLA last season. Some Pac-10 schools are lost $5 million to $10 million last year. They *need* more money or they will cut sports. If a few Pac-10 schools cut men’s volleyball, the sport will not have enough schools to qualify as an NCAA sport anymore. There is a reality that the Pac-10 needs a lot more money because their schools are getting their budgets cut significantly due to the economy. Their cuts could end up hurting UH also.
Without a lot more money coming from somewhere, sports like women’s softball could cease to exist in 10 years. Every school and conference is looking out for themselves to avoid having to make painful cuts like that. Some schools will NOT succeed at it. I hope and pray that UH is not left behind.
Garret I understand what your saying, but don’t you think they(big 6) are making a lot more money than just to cover the losing sport programs? Maybe I’m wrong but it appears of the surface that greed over rides whats good for the student athlete. Maybe I’m just not seeing the big picture.
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Morning…
Hmm…I’m still running the numbers up on the old blog too. This is like living a past life ST!
My problem with this site is that the left-hand margin goes off the visible screen. Any solutions?
Got stuck at Kaiser yesterday for over an hour & a half so I wasn’t able to get to the airport. Mahalo to those of you who did.
Wahine volleyball ticket apps arrived last week. Anyone else buying season tickets?
Please number responses.
Busy day so see you all this afternoon.
Glad to see ST and the gang up and running–this from a long time lurker.
Thanks everyone for joining us.
Scott Morifuji made it over, so he should be able to work things out.
We’re just trying to get settled.
Passing on a little note from LizK about her grandson. Small man is undergoing surgery today. Please add him to your daily prayers.
Mahalo.
Good morning everyone. I’m glad they fixed ST’s byline for his story in the online version. Last night they misspelled his name.
Matt – not surprising since they misspelled his name on the contract also
whoa, what happened to the borders.
top 100 babeee!
Aloha all
g’morning Tsaikos.
Yay! Found you guys! Good morning Tsaikos…
Yeah, I guess I’m “Steven” — on my contract, my password, etc.
Maybe that’s why I can’t sign in.
Anyway, they’re working to change my byline. I think I’m going to go by Stephen Grice-Mullins.
Morning Tsaikos!
Finally found my way to the right place.
I’m glad everything seems to be the same as before.
Still regulating.
Aloha Kakahiaka, Tsaikos!
I’m with Pomai. I like the white background. Hope Scott gets the template with numbers fixed. Go, Scott!
Good luck to David Veikune! Maybe we’ll see you on TV this fall.
I think the Tsaikos were the biggest “group” at the airport yesterday. Mrs. A-House is in a pic for ST’s article.
Hey, good morning, Hawaiianbod!
test….
Thanks for the new blog!
ST:
Thanks for the “props” in your article this morning, but its the Coaches, support staff, and especially the players who are most deserving of any acolodes for the 2010 season.
Our is but a small contribution to the team!
Would be nice if the hired the Princess and continued with the video segments.
gotta get use to the new hale – i already have my sunglasses on 😯 along with a telescope in-tow 🙂 to read the ‘fine’ print.
but… i have no fear because Scott is hear. thanks Scott!
i do like it when you submit a comment it returns to the bottom of the page and not back to the top.
Amen A-House
Hawaiianbod also the refresh rate seems faster to me.
My shoutout is to my baby nephew Paxton. He’s in that group Advertiser pic! He’s so big now. I’m gonna teach him how to block. I don’t know how to throw well, so can’t teach him that.
Reading ST’s comments at the top, things are not totally the same as before.
I hope the Tiser staff that weren’t invited to join the HSA will find something fulfilling in the near future.
Had someone complain about his name being spelled incorrectly on his badge every year for a film festival. He asked why that kept happening. The graphic designer responded that she only copies and pastes from the staff page on our intranet; she doesn’t proof. Ends up the genius had entered his own info wrong when he first set up his staff profile. He corrected it that night.
🙂
j nothing like making A
Goooood Morning Everyone

Don’t ya just love that “new blog” smell? 😆
Scott’s already on the case, but yeah, numbers for the posts and shaded background for every other post would make it easier to read and navigate.

Since this is the same server/old software I’m certain the same HTML rules apply.
Oh, I see NCAA tried a few out.
homey says
colomaohana says
dass ur uppah lip!
Hey, with the new italic print, it sure looks like we’ve got “horney” posting, instead of homey.
That can’t be too different, right?
Anyone really reading what DPK says?
Speaking about DPK, word on the street is that Esme wants a CC.
Garret,
My feel is what is in the best interest of UH now is,
1. Major restructuring of the conferences in a way that fractures the MWC, or
2. Major rumors that the MWC will be fractured due to restructuring of the BCS conferences with would happen this year.
3. Worse thing that could happen is the rumors disappear or Notre Dame joins the Big 10 ending all conference restructuring, which means the WAC loses Bosie and possibly LaTech.
Your comments?
DPK: Hahaha!! Took the words right outta my mouth!
Esme? CC?
Eh, tell her come HERE and say dat!
hehe.
Yep, no difference. Sure does look like horney though! LOL
My grandson was one of the Census takers for the Ewa beach/Kaupe’a area.
He told his team member to do your house ’cause he nevah like spend his whole day on one family. Da boss might think he was goofin’ off.
Besides, he said he was down to one pen and just knew he’d run of ink making all those entries!
Well you should go to FB and see!!!
Back to sports…Go Wahine! Big shout out to the Tsaiko greeting committee. Thanks for taking the time to welcome our girls and coaches back.

i like change that means i got some money in pocket.
really though, change is good.
i like the challenge of change.
and change typically means things are looking up.
Just a tiny margin on the left in Firefox when it’s not full-screen. Green Browser gives a good margin… K-Meleon displays a minimal margin. Ditto with Opera. My Internet Explorer died ages ago so I can’t see what that looks like.
Nothing really on FB. I hardly go on…
Lame? ok, one out of 10 is lame.
Pomai
What’s GH’s blog name? I think I know him
Scoones, koakane??? Scoones??

New blog. New beginnings. Keyboard works, ran a test post, S key works, post was accepted, So here we go. Oh I forgot, hi.
I just listened to yesterday’s end of the year WAC Commissioner’s teleconference.
During the 34 minute teleconference with the media, Karl Benson answered questions poised at him from the media. Naturally most of the questions centered around the “what ifs” about conference shakeups and the trickle down effect it would have on the WAC.
“If Boise leaves for the MWC,” the commissioner said. “We’ll have to move on.”
“Right now there’s a lot of moving parts,” the commissioner let on (or he basically said). “We’ll have to wait and see what our next moves are when the picture gets clearer.”
The media taking part in the teleconference, which basically was a 34 minute question and answer period with the commissioner, were asking similarly the same type of questions: What teams are you looking at to replace Boise? Are you looking at expanding to 12 teams? What are the penalties to Boise if they do decide to leave after July 1? What were the demeanors and body languages of the school’s president and athletic directors at the recent meeting with the commissioner in Las Vegas? What was the commissioners thoughts of teams making it to BCS Bowls, or playing on the biggest platforms, being rewarded with a biggest pieces of the pie (Dave’s question)? New schools coming in, how soon? New schools (FCS) coming in are there hardships to other WAC teams in the first couple of years?
My impression of the teleconference is that the commissioner didn’t what to get into *specifics* at this time publically of which teams that the league is courting if their is a fallout to the WAC when all the dominoes fall. It seemed (IMO) that the commissioner by default has to have a wait and see approach. Plus he know everything has to be finalized by the higher ups, so it would be premature on his part to speculate. Or to say this is what he wants to do. He did say that privately and behind closed doors that his meetings with the schools presidents and athletic directors that they have openly discussed different scenarios.
“The WAC has a storied history,” Benson eagerly said. “We’ll get through this, other teams in the WAC have to step up.”
I’m hoping that what he says, proves true, especially for UH. And there’s a continuation of adding to the WAC’s storied history. But whatever happens be done with already. Leave, leave. Stay, stay. I don’t want to have this being carried on every year, where the WAC fate, or UH’s fate, or Boise leaving, is up in the air. Get it settled once in for all.
koakane: Did you guys throw homey into a strangers car that night?
Well, your plan didn’t work: He still found you.
Bwuahahah!!!
Hiya!
Mahalo for the prayers. Baby Gryphon came out of surgery the same happy fella and is headed home. Lab results in a day or so.
The blog looks the same on iPhone, btw.
Guud Morning Tsaiko’s!
Man took me a couple of days to catch up on all the going ons…Choke post!
1…..BIG MAHALO TO NA WAHINE and BASEBOWS for a toatlly awesome season! “Coolen da Gang” will definitely be back next season.
2…..BIG MAHALO to the A-House Ohana for making it to the airport and welcoming back the Wahines. Wanted desperately to be there but too much to do at the “farm”…
3….Best Wishes and Good Luck to the employees who will seek another path.
4….Sending lots of HEALING ENERGY to LizK’s grandson.. Me and my patnah really enjoyed your hospitality and pray for your grandson’s recovery.
5….Some really great post here and from some of the really fun loving Tsaiko’s..keep it coming and great to hear from the longtime Tsaiko’s….
LizK,
Good news on the little guy….hope the labs come back good, too.
Have a terrific trip! 🙂
Yay baby Gryphon!
So…. Daniel Smith and UH agree to terms…
Thoughts anyone???
Oh look at this, karma has a funny way of working things out yeah?
LizK great news on baby Gryphon!
Old Diver,
I agree with your points. I would add that if #3 occurs, the MWC might need to add 2 more teams to get to 12 teams…and that could result in more losses to the WAC (Fresno and Nevada will be doing all they can to get those spots). If the WAC loses BSU, La Tech, Nevada, and Fresno, the WAC will not be considered a conference anymore and can lose all bowl affiliations, TV contracts, basketball tournament spots, etc.
Colorado’s Board of Regents are meeting about the Pac-10 today.
Good news, Liz!
Hey Stephen: Good to hear things are going well with you and the “new” staff.
And da Beat goes on…and da Beat goes on.
The Chancellor for Kansas asked Nebraska to stay in the Big 12…for Kansas’ sake.
Sheesh, not much of a secret when others know they are meeting tonight…LOL
If the Big 12 dissolves, does that make the MWC an AQ qualifier?
Kansas and Kansas State are unhappy that men’s basketball doesn’t seem to mean anything for conference realignment…only football matters.
madeinhawaii,
The AQ criteria says that the top 6 conferences get AQ spots automatically. If there is no Big 12, then the MWC is an AQ conference!
homey,
Newspapers have excellent sources, so it is hard for any Board of Regents to meet secretly when everybody is being watched so closely in times like this.
It appears that one reason David Veikune is doing so well this offseason with Cleveland is that he’s lost more than 20 pounds.
Both of Cleveland’s ILB starters at the start of last season are missing OTAs, so Veikune is getting a lot of reps.
That’s great Liz!
Enjoy your trip!
Thanks again everyone for the well wishes. I appreciate them.
But, trust me, I’ve already been blessed.
I get to retain the best job, and, most of all, still have great benefits.
But, please, keep my former Advertiser co-workers in your thoughts and prayers. They face difficult futures. They’re great people.
Uh, oh, chili peppers ….
Shout out to Biggie and Pac…
Back to business, when did the WAC become the developmental league for the Mountain West?
I think it’s time the WAC gets proactive. It needs to develop its own expansion plan. That means recruiting UNLV and San Diego State.
I also would target Wyoming.
Hawaii might be isolated by water, but Wyoming is isolated, too. And it does not have a significant television market. What it has is good facilities. Wyoming will be left behind when the conferences shift again. Target the weak, I say.
i still think THE Princess would be a good sports anchor with Kekaula at KITV.
Ahhh. The comfort of familiar blogs. No can “beat”.
Mahalo for remembering Gryphon today and in the future! Scary times for newish parents.
So I am talking about India and all the bombings going on and my friend closes the conversation, “Have a blast!”
Got a chance to tout the experience and Influence of this blog at a work-related webinar about social media today.
Waiting for the next meeting now on my holoholo workday. This one includes lunch!
Awright! Work pau, lunch coming up. All the HTML text tags used formerly should work, right?
We see above that bold and blockquote works, along with the smileys.

So it WAS Mr. A-House I saw on KITV welcoming the Wahine back!
Thanks A-House ohana!
We just have to wait for the Princess to return. She’s still in Europe.
C_C –
I second the thought of the Princess with Kekaula on air. She’s got everything she needs to rock that job!
Yep, it was indeed the A-House family, Pomai, Myki, SJ Macro and Mei Ling at the airport.
Good thing, too.
They were the first to present lei.
What’s gonna happen when she returns, OH Undisputed Master of the Hawaiia Blog Universe.
Don’t act like you dont know I’m talkin’ abou you Tsai!
#228- I agree. The WAC leadership needs to put the WAC FIRST on it’s list of priorities. The best defense is a great offense.
With the rise of the baseball and softball teams in post season play this year, Hawaii is helping create more respect. It would be great to see the WAC itself create some marketing mileage from these accomplishments!
Hawaii* oops!
Well?
Too bad we can’t go from a position of stremgth and BRIBE a conference to take us in.
I don’t correct typos unless they can really be misconstrued.. like leaving out a letter in the word “crock”
and typing..
“rock”
LizK,
Good news about Gryphon!

Good morning everyone…it is still morning, right?
Chooooohoooo!!! Can you hear me now?
Go Warriors!
Funny, the new format allowed me to “duplicate post”. The old format gave me an error.
Re-Tomorrow’s announcement of APR Progress Rate Announcement
Is it hold it your breath time for UH athletics , maybe the baseball team?
We’ll see. The last report indicates that the baseball team was below a 925 (922) and was penalized.
Here’s a link to UH’s last report dated 5/01/09
http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/apr2008/277_2008_apr.pdf
Copied from the Knight Commision’s web site
The NCAA will release the latest round of Division I Academic Progress Rates on Wednesday, June 9.
Data released will include scores and any penalties for all sports teams at 332 Division I colleges and universities.
The data will be made available to national media at 1 p.m. Eastern with an embargo of 2 p.m. Eastern, when the data will be made public via the NCAA website.
The NCAA will hold a national telephonic press conference to discuss the latest APR figures at 2 p.m. Eastern on June 9. Speakers will include NCAA Interim President Jim Isch; Walter Harrison, president of the University of Hartford and chair of the NCAA Committee on Academic Performance; and select NCAA staff members.
The Academic Progress Rate is a real-time measure of eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team.
An APR score of 925 (out of 1,000) is the minimum level of academic success; teams scoring below 925 can lose scholarships and face other sanctions over time, including bans on postseason play.
The most recent APR scores are based on a multi-year rate that averages scores from the 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years.
ditto kazz remarks and try put indentation on left please or center better yet
One thing that MUST be a legitimate concern for all schools in the WAC are the incoming or freshman or sophmore student athletes that are paying attention to these conference shift rumors.
If I were an incoming high school recruit or a current UH student athlete that is a freshman or a sophomore, I’d be concerned about the potential of the WAC getting “dumbed down”.
If these shifts start ACTUALLY happening, I wouldn’t be surprised to see or read about transfer requests all around the country and WORST here at UH.
checking out so have a good time and catch yu’all lattas bye now
How come? Looks ok to me on my PC.
This format (without the numbers) makes responding a little difficult for those not so computer savvy. Also will be hard to read without the borders.
Anyhow, great morning and glad we still have a home.
Thanks Pomai.
For me the whole site loads faster.
*coughing*
Testing 1, 2, 3 … !
Speaking of APR, can someone confirm that the APR rules are in effect for ALL athletic programs in D1?
I was speaking with Ralph about how former Wahine Justine Smethurst never graduated from UH and if that effected the Rainbow Wahine softball APR.
And …. hoooomigawd, we are LIVE! The Warrior Beat blog lives on! I love it!
Hullo, my Tsaiko friends. Hi, ST!
*hugs and chili pepper all around*
Funny, my old bookmark for the WB still works. …
Howzit Esme!!!!
Ezzzzz is in the house! MOOOOOOOO!
Aloha, everyone. Best wishes to all those not retained.
Kazz – It’s all sports teams in D1.
Yesssss!!!
Hi Everybody!
Hail, hail the gang’s all here…I’m breathing a sigh of relief reading the posts of my best friends. Still feeling warm and fuzzy after yesterday’s experience. Bruce Asato, you’ve captured what I think is the best photo of me that I have EVER taken…and I can’t thank you enough.
I kind of like the white background, but Scott, if you’re taking any recommendations, could you use a bigger font for the message text portions and perhaps soften the white-ness of the background just a tiny bit. Much mahalos!
Have a great day, everybody!
I think Wahine softball has always been above the cutoff point. Ok, just in case, almost always have been above…
BG808..agree with u on the post..(without numbers)
Heya¡my very first comment on your site. ,I have been reading your blog for a while and thought I would completely pop in and drop a friendly note. . It is great stuff indeed. I also wanted to ask..is there a way to subscribe to your site via email?
I wonder how the baseball and basketball teams will do this year???
Howzit NSF? Hope you had a great time in Kauai.
With all the moooing I think I’m gonna do an oink oink and have roast pork with gravy all over. No mac salad, just 3 scoops rice.

Well, I guess there’s no better time to welcome change than now.
Howzit everybody!
Same braddah. Shorter name. =)
homey — I like my roast pork a little crispy. Got that kine? I’ll join you!
Esme won Al’s lunch offer the other night….or so Al and I maintain. 🙄
The target “last post” was supposed to be midnight. On that criterion, I think J won, so she can collect the next time she’s back in Hawaii. (I love committing Al to lunch stuff 👿 ). But Esme, just doing esme’s–swooped in and scored the 900th and 1,500 post minutes later.
I also owe a lunch prize to the 1,000 poster that night… 🙂
checking in …
Eh howzit Hawaiian, more easy for type da new name yeah? Did I hear a cc call???????
Howzit all!
Did you know that after registering to enter comments on the SB.. you can change your handle (visible name) to whatever you want? I dunno how that affects your log in.. but I was able to post as “madeinhawaii” on Reardon’s article.
Whooops.. not SB.. but SA
From HNA.. to HSA…
checking in..hope everyone is having a good day
SteveM, al, et al … ya know, like I was saying on the FB side, I wasn’t actually expecting lunch at all. I was just posting for fun. But if I can “collect” (in spirit) … I’d love it to be an actual Cattle Call! Maybe the first Cattle Call with the blog in its new digs. What do you guys think?
Believe it or not, it would be my first CC. I can do one now, now that, uh, I have all this free time …
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
hi everybody
Good to see everyone has made it through the light! Good to see you on the other side! I read this blog daily and enjoy everyones comments. Thank you ST and all and especially the StarAdvertiser for encouraging communication within the family. We one are family in this WARRIOR nation! Aloha
Wow numbers!!!

300!
Oh, and before I forget …
*waves to Scott Morifuji*
Yes…I’ve done it too, but haven’t posted. Looks like the name for registration is not necessarily the one that will appear on post (only by default). So everyone can have their blog name, I think. Login using your email addy to avoid confusing yourself 🙂
But no need login for now. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Anyway, I gotta go tend the kids for a little while. Will be back again later for more discussion about possible cc. Be thinking about possible locations, willya? What ono place have you guys been wanting to eat at that also is roomy enough / has portions big enough for a crowd like ours?
Kden. Back lataz.
The way I understand it, the blog is still using the same server that it did when it was under The Advertiser.
No moderation, I’m told, so if your post doesn’t appear, it just means I don’t like you.
Kidding.
I think.
I love all of you.
Esme — Al will make the call, I think. You like lobster? 😛
testing, seeing if I get to use my name, last night the site wouldn’t let me log in or register
Esme go for it set it up just name the time and place, anyone can make a cc.
Eh howzit Ralph, long time no hear.
Softball was insane this season so I had “tunnel vision”.
Am I crazy or did the unsupervised workouts for football start yet?
my Bing search hasn’t found the Star Advertiser! only articles from the TV networks on the Star Advertiser.
Howzit everybody, glad to see the new site is working with no problems.
Good afternoon, Tsaikos. Hooo hooo…I sure hope my post appears. Or else, I’ll know where I stand with ST. Haha! 🙂
Wow, A-joe, I like the new slimmer you. 😉

2262 comments on yesterday’s blog.. a fitting adieu…
Ralph Ralph Ralph…You gotta type Star-advertiser when you use Bing. Doink
Did I mention that I’m off again next Wednesday?
And how come you use Bing? You like their previews of videos?
pau lunc howa had baked salmon casserole, musubi, chow mien and gobo. naaaaaaaaap
d1 don’t say, wow what a coincidence so I’am I.
d1 – You did not mention that. Any part time job openings at your place for a say female teenager?
I forgot to mention that I am due to be sick from work on a Wednesday.
Sorry I’am = am Ho da fat fingers.
Yes, thank you, thank you for all of the posts.
Huh. I went to click my ‘favorites’ link in Firefox for the blog, which used to have a gif of the Advertiser hibiscus, and now it’s changed to the SA star. Guess I’ve been assimilated.
Afternoon Tsai-kos!
Congrats to the Basebows on their ranking! Also congrats to those player and recruits who were drafted today.
SteveM – who was #1203? I owe them lunch, since it was my idea.
homey,
The Denver Post *really* isn’t helping to keep the meeting secret. This is what they wrote today:
How secret is a meeting when the newspaper publishes the time and address?
It looks like Colorado will be the first domino to fall…they apparently will leave the Big 12 as early as tomorrow! The Pac-10 had 2 scenarios: Add the 6 from the Big 12 or add Colorado and Utah…either way, Colorado is apparently leaving the Big 12.
The Big 12 has a $10 million exit fee and Colorado couldn’t even afford the $3 million to buy out Hawkins’ contract before this season. This is apparently what they are meeting about today.
Garret/homey,
If they contact area escort services they might even get the room number. I’m sorry, did I type that out loud?
Re-Freedom and Information Act
IIRC after the Sugar Bowl, a news organization was successful in applying the freedom and information act in it’s request in finding out the names on the list in regards to UH’s traveling party.
With today’s announcement of UH settling with Smith can the freedom and information act be applied here on the specifics of what the two parties settled on?
Could Texas A&M and Oklahoma be planning to go to the SEC instead? That could end the Pac-16 and maybe Texas will go to the Big 10 or SEC?
Garret,
I stopped reading after “This from and Aggieland source.” 🙂
Did I mention jm2375 and I are not available next Wednesday? Although I guess if the majority are available Wednesday, then choosing that day would be only fair. 🙂
sheesh. Replace ‘and’ with ‘an’ and destroy all hardcopies.
roysan – what act is that?
jm2375 — #1203 was sj-macro, with his post: “add choi sum, make miso ramen”. 🙂
sj-macro also made the 1,300th comment to enter the century list.
Thanks Jason. But now you’re gonna start rumors! 🙄
roysan16,
FOI request could be made, but the terms of the settlement could be covered by a confidentiality clause that would keep the terms private.
thanks Homey, I use bing because the browser pictures are fantastic. Msn has too many junks on it and firefox with too many popups.
BG808…me and my patnah really enjoyed Kauai…Waimea..Hanapepe. Kept to that side of the island..remind me of Haleiwa back in the day…people really “hang loose” and laid back. Ishihara poke da bestest..went five different varieties and all was guud!..wait .. except for da “snails” neva try dat one…raw wasabi tako…hoooo!!!
Pomai… me thinking you will kepp us posted on the “Bling” fo da Wahhine project and when we step in right?..
Hooo!…and the plot thickens…secret meeting?….
homey: You ALWASY sick.
Ralph,
Did you see the news on Friday that Microsoft was ending its Bing cashback program?
If the Pac-16 doesn’t happen, it looks like the Pac-10 would just take Colorado and Utah. The MWC would replace Utah with BSU. That would keep things pretty stable in the western conferences, which is good…if the next round of expansion happens later, UH could be in a better position in football and men’s basketball.
Whew! Finally got to join in. I really got lost there for awhile looking for this blog site. I’m glad boise staying put in the wac. On the other hand, boise must feel like what else we have to do to get invited. GO WARRIORS!!GO WAC!!
jm#### and Jason sitting in a tree…THAT IS JUST GROSS! *BARF*
Big C – Stop writing the obvious.
Garret – At least we may get reports of what transpired in the secret meeting from those sources.
homey..
would be more gross if it was a “family” tree, eh?
Boise could take a pro-active approach and pressure the Commish to build up the WAC rather than constantly whining and wanting to leave.
homey,
Colorado has scheduled a press conference tomorrow…we will definitely know then, but they have such poor security we’ll probably know hours before the press conference.
Maybe it has to be one of those deals like the Knicks and Nate Robinson.
Boise State doesn’t want to be in the WAC.
So instead of waiting around for the Broncos to leave, maybe it would be better for the WAC to release the Broncos from their membership.
You wanna go? Go now. Thanks for all of your years of service.
It’s inevitable, anyway.
ST — wouldn’t Boise have to leave a few $$$ on the WAC plate if they split early? Why not just attempt to add another team now?
Cal has a much bigger Athletic Department budget deficit than UH…they need the new TV network and expansion.
homey ℞,
Sorry. All done with summer hiring.
Garret,
This seems like the most plausable considering how some conferences are balking or “playing chicken” with the expansion rumors right now.
Personally, I wish for this to be true considering our position and the risk of the other athletic programs at UH that have been doing quite well but stand the risk of elimination in the worst case scenarios.
Cal’s upper campus forgave more than $31 million in debt that their Athletic Department had in 2007! It would be nice if upper campus got rid of the $10 million deficit UH Athletics has…
I wonder if UH football could survive in D1 as an independent? Any thoughts?
Coach K got $4M from Duke in 08-09! Started with a $2M salary plus incentives….
read that Coach Wooden never took more than $30k per year.
Kazz,
I agree wit you. If expansion is minimal in the west, the WAC and UH will stay about the same for now. That would be best for UH’s nonrevenue sports. Then hopefully UH’s football teams starts to win big and a big-money conference comes for UH.
mih,
Could I survive as a fan with a 6-7 game schedule (home and away) with a huge “bye week” from the 3rd week of September thru Thanksgiving? 🙁
Ok, I’m starting to miss the gray highlighted items we place in block quotes. 🙁
ST,
What about the $3 million the WAC will get if BSU makes a BCS game? The $6 million that a WAC team earns for making a BCS game is split evenly–$3 million for the school making the bowl, $3 million for the conference.
That $3 million and the $1+ million exit fee are reasons not to let BSU out early.
how soon would UH have to start “winning big”?
d1…
I suppose it would mean a lot of lobbying from our AD, Chancellor, UH Pres.. BOR.. Politicians to get an exemption to open the season one weekend earlier. This would make that 13th game option even more attractive as it would allow the opposing team to retain a mid-season bye week.
Would it make more financial sense for UH to finish second to a BCS-bound WAC champion?
For UH to get invited to the BCS dance, the State would have to invest big time into the school. Not just the athletic program but get those badly needed repairs done. Got to improve the overall school image.. raise tuition and activity fees, increase the athletic dept budget and bit the bullet on travel expense compensation if asked.
Not going to happen.
checking the blog clock …
Okay, finally found the Warrior Beat. Who would of thunk it would be under “Blogs?”
To me, that’s like asking students if they accept an additional student fee or asking the public if they want to pay taxes.
Money is an issue more than ever and already some teams are on the bandwagon of telling anyone and everyone how expensive it is to fly to Hawaii. Conference affiliations put all that to rest. As Wayne Brady said to Dave Chappelle: “This isn’t an option ******, if you don’t smoke this, we got a problem”.
Imagine UH’s predicament right now of signing non-conference football opponentsto play at Aloha Stadium and multiply that by two or three and that’s not even taking into account the other sports at UH.
For some reason, Bob Coolen has had NO problems scheduling BIG name softball programs to come to play the Wahine at Manoa (i.e. Oklahoma, UW, CAL, Stanford, etc…), but then again, a lot of the power softball teams are from the PAC 10, so not too far away I guess…
Congrats to Dave Shoji for being selected to the AVCA Hall of Fame class of 2010!
http://hawaiiathletics.com/news/2010/6/8/WVB_0608101445.aspx
d1shima,
The BCS evaluation period covers 4-year periods. There are always 2 periods that overlap–the current period is not good for UH (2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011), but a new evaluation period starts this year and goes over 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
If this season and next season goes well, then UH would be more attractive to conferences. If the MWC stays at 9 teams, they might need to add 3 teams to keep their AQ status…whichever teams do well over the next 2 years could earn their AQ spots.
One thing that hasn’t been discussed in media reports is that even if the MWC becomes an AQ conference in 2012, they still need to worry about staying an AQ conference in 2014. So, they may need to add teams in 2012…they should be able to pick which WAC or C-USA teams they want if they have AQ status to offer.
All right! WTG Dave Shoji!!
Yep, now it’s getting harder to read.
By the way, all conferences are asking their teams to schedule their nonconference games early in the season and leave the rest of the season for conference games. That means that UH could not fill their schedules in football, basketball, softball, baseball, etc., if UH was an independent.
FYI: I’ve been asked to look up TV contract dollars
MWC: $12 million per year
C-USA: $11.3 million per year
WAC: $4 million per year
One reason why it is hard for the WAC to poach teams from other conferences. If you look at NCAA men’s basketball success in the tournament, you see another reason why teams would lose a LOT of money by moving to the WAC.
Except with other independent teams, I assume… not a good scenario at all.. but if no WAC, then what is left?
I see UH dropping football all together in the next 10 years. I hope it won’t happen this way, but I just don’t see the political will in Hawaii to stop it from happening A lot of people in Hawaii just don’t care about athletics, it goes all the way to the top starting from the Governor to UH administrators. You don’t even hear anything from Inouye concerning UH, but you see Orrin Hatch making sure he’s taking care of BYU/Utah.
Congratulations Coach Shoji!
d1島,
Can’t believe they messed up ST’s contract too.
ST,
Just make sure they spell your name right on your paycheck.
10 years?
Governor?
Inouye?
Believe it or not, there *are* some people working hard behind the scenes to improve UH’s situation. Some of them are even Tsaikos. That is all I can say. I hope to be able to say more sometime…
Big difference in TV contracts.
Big difference in TV markets.
CONGRATS TO UNCLE DAVE!!!!
WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG??????? 👿
Garret,
August 7th 2010. If get chance to fly down to Hawaii, come spill the beans at the blog bash! 😆
It’s good to see The Star Advertiser retained ST and this blog continues under his leadership. It’s the lifeline of all Hawaii blogs. And Ferd coming over too. I know it’s sad that not everyone was able to come over too. As a lurker, I am not on as much as the regulars but I am so happy this blog continues. It’s like Adrian Monks Natalie Teager. A companion/assistant to our lives. This blog is invaluable.
As in was leaving the airport today , there was this one kid come home for R and R from Afghanistan. Use by phone to call home, but no one home. Giving him a ride to surprise his mom. How cool is that. I hope I don’t scare the mom away !
Ahhh. back in the office at last.
Hey, the blog looks nice to me.
Congrats, Coach Shoji and the MLB draftees!
Back to work….

I’m sure there are, but let me just say that administrators like Greenwood and Hinshaw don’t exactly fill me with a lot of confidence. After the 0-12 football season there was some talk of dropping football all together, a couple more poor seaons, or if the WAC breaks up and you will see the talk again I’m sure. Like what another poster said we aren’t willing to invest the money to improve the university.
… too many posts, so re-posting …
UH baseball team ranked 30th in nation
By Star-Advertiser Staff and News Services
POSTED: 12:40 p.m. HST, Jun 08, 2010
Hawaii, which ended its season Sunday, is ranked 30th in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Top 30 poll, released today.
It is the first time the Rainbows (35-28) are ranked this year, and the first time they ended the season ranked since 1992, when they finished 11th.
Arizona State (50-8), which beat UH twice in winning the regional it hosted, remains No. 1 in the poll.
duffer-
That’s awsome. Mahalo for that act of kindness! Way to go.
Hi!
Yay for Gryph!!!
Place looks decent. I agree, it does need a larger font size (I am at 200%) and numbers. Definitely. Numbers.
Looks like most of us made the trek over successfully.
And, it does seem to refresh faster. Or it could be that it does not have to deal with 2200+ posts.
That is a record that will stand for years!
Whoo-hoo!!!
What gets me about all this talk about realignment is the fact that many of the teams discussed are only good due to their current coaches. Rutgers to the Big 10? Where were they before their current coach and where will they be after he leaves? Same for Boise. They just cut the guy’s salary after winning a BCS bowl game. Do they (Boise AD’s)think that just anybody can walk in and repeat what the previous and current coaches have done? One of the big BCS schools is going to offer the current Boise coach a huge sum of cash next year and I think the party will be over for the Broncos.
Who would make a good commissioner for the WAC?
name says it all–glad to see warrior beat alive and well. blog’s been an entertaining daily stop of online surfing for years.
thanks ST, Scott, Tsaiko’s!!
Congratulations to Shoji!
Vravissimo!!!!!!!!!!
Pomai . . .
Just about any one else?
400
4th century.
Quite the difference from earlier this morning and the 23rd century.
Did they take away the wall clock for you guys?
What about deadlines?
Good for Lafaele and Lumpkin…Good Luck with their camp! 🙂
late afternoon to all tsaiko’s
congrats to cshoji on being inducted to the AVCA hall of fame, the warrior men on being ranked 30 in the college polls. where did the wahines get placed?
btw how is amber kaufman doing in track?
Pomai-
Agree with wafan: anyone else. The guy who is supposed to be our “man on the scene” is not our “man on the scene.”
WCWS 6th inning: UCLA 15, AZ 6 & Michele Smith is still talking about composite bats. 🙄 Meanwhile Holly & Pam talk about how UCLA has one of the best batting coaches in Fernandez.
Congrats to Dave Shoji!!! Well deserved!
slugger like I posted before impressed with UCLA coaching staff than the team. All of the coaches when thru the program and played at a level higher after their college day was over such as the olympics. They then returned to coach at Westwood.
Could the WAC try an raid MWC before they raid others?
Sure seems Michele Smith is a one-trick pony. Odd why she would continue to beat the subject to death.
Sorry for the weird pun.
when=went
Slugger-
I’m with you. And let me guess…not a thing about how well any of the student athletes did in school. Equipment and rules discussions are fine during the regular season, but during the CWS they give the impression to the casual viewer that there is some sort of controversy going on and that some teams only got there by exploiting loop holes. That’s what ticked me off most about their commentary during our games. They should be celebrating the student athletes and their accomplishments both on and off the field.
OK, I’m back for a minute. Any more thoughts about WHERE to have the Cattle Call next week?
On scheduling … it turns out the only day I can do would be Monday. How’s that day for everyone else?
wafan when are your making the return to the isles? did you get to see pat and mike during the year?
Pomai,
can try but….
What’s that adage about bringin’ a knife to a gunfight? 🙄
😕
d1 yeah but what do we do just sit around until we are left holding the bag just like the last time, at least try to do something before we get dumped on again? Azz why hard!!!!!!!
Koakane . . .
Bad year this year — just plain old busy with five committees. Ugh. Darn administrators create committees to keep us pre-occupied so we do not have time to think and ask questions. HA!
Return on July 1 and get to be there for the T-Gate. My first one. Whoo-hoo!
Esme,
There’s a min one tomorrow…………….cc that is
Dwight K. Schrute
Esme . . .
How about a cc in three or four weeks. Can you squeeze one in then?
Oops. Got too excited.
How about five to six weeks?
Gotta have my daily Tsaiko fix! We’ll follow you anywhere ST. Aloha from the mainland! Here’s a tidbit that has come out of some conference meetings….look for Montana and Montana State to bolt the Big Sky for the WAC if the WAC gets raided.
commissioner for the WAC?
How about anybody directly related to President Obama?
Kazz ok I’ll bite who da heck is Dwight K. Schrute?
Simple. You can still throw the knife when the bullets run out. 😎
madeinhawaii we don’t even want to go there!!!!!!
Only the greatest paper salesman in the history of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton, PA Branch.
He also has a beet farm and is borderline insane. 😆
wafan 5 to 6 weeks heck we could have 3 or 4 by that time.
D1,
The REAL question is, “who wants to bring a gun to a Chuck Norris fight?”
😯
😆
Kazz are you saying that the Wacky WAC needs someone wacky!!!!
Pomai . . .
What, you guys slowing down?
Kazz . . .
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Good one. Even an crazy person can do better. HA!
Money is a nice thing to have yeah?
Nytal!
Keep the place nice and neat — for the time being, anyhow.
Dwight K Schrute once deliberately set his office on fire to test the fire safety knowledge of his co-workers and as a child he performed his own circumcision.
The WAC needs an aggressive and out of the box thinker/do-er. 😆
d1, I know that sounded contradictory. But eh, I do have to go job interviews! And I have some standing weekly appointments. ;D

This is a NEW blog and a new time.
I’m personally shunning the name of that ESPN softball commentator.
Meanwhile … hey, can someone tell me what’s the right coding for when you wanna quote someone?
wafan … hah? How come you prefer a cc so long from now? …
Howzit Tsaiko Nation!
So this is what it’s like on the other side! Not so different. Unlike some of you I’m not seeing numbers on the posts…would be nice. Is there some trick to seeing them? No biggee.
Just wanted to check in and say Howzit! Glad we’re still together!!

Speaking of Amber Kaufman I just finished watching a video of her being interviewed, which is posted on UH’s athletic site. Great, great interview. Whoever did the interview I think has a bright future. A lot content was covered. Great questions by the interviewer. Then again perhaps Amber makes the interviewer’s job a lot easy with her bubbly personality. Some of the questions that were covered, “which sport did you like better,” “what influence did Coach Shoji have on you as an athlete,” “why made you decide on coming to Hawaii.”

Haven’t figured out how to get to this blog from my Windows smartphone (blackjack). The url goes to the SA mobile site, where I couldn’t find the blogs anywhere, but the breaking news is listed right on top.
Hmm…. those of you with blog sites… do you have your blog code?

Good Evening Tsai-kos! New place feels just like home.
JM,
I’m getting the same. My blackberry is sending me to the mobile version of the Star Advertiser.
I’ll have to wait until the new official URL for the Warrior Beat is on. Even Dave Reardon’s blog connects to the old Bulletin site.
(Man, I cannot wait to get the HTC “Incredible”!!! This blackberry is wearing out on me!)

STILL FEELING THE MANA OF THE WAHINE???
I encourage ALL interested parties to donate what they can to the Rainbow Wahine’s account at Koa Anuenue.org. There is a section where you can set up an online donation or set up monthly automatic deductions to their account. I have done this and experienced NO problems and 100% of all money donated is tax deductible. If you set up monthly donations, Koa Anuenue will send you a receipt at the end of the calendar year you can file for your taxes.
This account is for the program’s use ONLY and greatly assists the program in offsetting costs to their annual budget.
OR fans may send checks payable to “UH FOUNDATION”.
***Please indicate “WAHINE SOFTBALL ACCOUNT” on the memo line.***
Mailing address is:
UH FOUNDATION
PO BOX 11270
HONOLULU, HI 96828.
Koa Anuenue will mail donors receipts using the name and address indicated on your checks in the upper left hand corner or otherwise noted by the donor.
I have been donating for two years now, and it’s a worthwhile commitment. These young ladies work as hard as ANY UH student athlete and this program has had a history of winning not just in the WAC, but on a national level considering their smaller budget compared to UH football, basketball, and volleyball.
EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS!!!!!!
Jm & Kazz – the HA link still work on my mobile
What kine phone you get?
I’m sure I can do something on my phone’s browser to fix that, but soon enough the Star Advertiser’s techs will get the new URL straight, then I’ll bookmark it on my phone.
ST,
Aside from UH football, will you still be the beat writer for Warrior volleyball and Wahine softball?
There is a Chuck Norris-type joke in there somewhere. 😎
Well, the news leaked out about Colorado’s meeting. They apparently weren’t getting ready to leave for the Pac-10…they were discussing their horrible APR situation. Bad, bad timing for Colorado. Kansas with their scandal with their AD right now can relate. Scholarship losses in *football* and men’s basketball!
and “boom” goes the dynamite…
To give you an idea of how badly the Pac-10 wants Texas…
Nebraska will announce by Friday that they will go to the Big 10? That would mean the Pac-10 will become the Pac-16…Colorado’s APR failure in the 2 revenue sports may cost them $20 million per year.
“And everyone’s getting fat except the Western Athletic Conference.”
I just read this in an article in the LA Times. The author writes about the landscape of college football possibly changing in the future.. And then he includes this statement about the WAC, which everyone knows by now is an understatement and valid.
Also included in this article is a statement by the WAC Commissioner.
“This is wild,” WAC Commissioner Karl Benson said this week of the stakes.
Ugh.
In my opinion the WAC school presidents need to assert themselves more and take on a greater leadership role.

Kazz – http://blogs.starbulletin.com/uhsportsextra/yoshikawa-makes-wcws-all-tournament-team/
One of the “feel-good” stories surrounding the softball team, and there are many of them, is how this season turned out for Traci Yoshikawa in the end, on the BIG STAGE.
Throughout the season she was up and down and up and up and then down and down and then up again at the plate.
She had her big problems at 2nd base and got pulled on more than one occasion during the regular season. Yoshikawa wasn’t the fastest hands, but had power, after all, she was the FIRST Wahine I saw crush a softball over that 45-50 foot net in the outfield on a blast to left field center early in the season.
I will openly admit, her at-bats had me sweating and biting the skin off my fingers, but the young lady came to play in every game and never quit and it showed on the BIGGEST STAGE of the season.
Where we lacked in production at the top of the order, Traci Yoshikawa made sure her senior season didn’t end without a fight. A big two run homer against Missouri and a single homer on the last night of D1 NCAA softball in her career. It was almost fitting that Yoshikawa was the last at bat and went down swinging to end this season.
From the homers she launched to the spectacular ESPN-like fielded outs she snagged at times and the frustrating moments in between, Traci Yoshikawa was a part of this historic season and Mr. and Mrs. Yoshikawa should be proud that they raised on hell of a young lady that represented her home state, her university, and her Ohana very well.
MAHALO JM!!!!!!!
Congratulations Traci Yoshikawa!
Best wishes to UH alum Bob Nash!

Before I say good night, I leave you with one last question to ponder, esp for Kazz & Pomai —
What will the signage out in right field of RWSS look like??? (you know the bannahs?)
Last thought of the day…
They had this K counter on Strasburg on SportsCenter just now.
They should count how many good games he’ll have as a rookie.
Relax media… RELAX!!!
JM,
There is a big billboard thing on both sides of the RWSS, just outside the foul line on the wall.
On the left outfield side is a board listing the names of Louisville Slugger All Americans, so they got two names to add to that. On the right side is a list of years of WAC titles, regional appearances, etc…
They’ll probably just fill those in.
They could use a “makeover” though… 😎 I think I just know the Tsaiko for some advice too… 😎
Still hungry… Good nite to all as I head out to Jack in the Box!!!!!!!
Good first day in our new “home” at the Star Advertiser!!!

“2010 WAC Champion” right next to the “2007 WAC Champion”
I made up this one:

But in all honesty probably nothing, sad yeah?
jm and pomai put this regional banner “winna winna chicken dinna 2010” the WAC banner should read “if can can if no can we did”
bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Pomai & Kazz – what about being the 5th best team in the country? 😀

I couldn’t agree with you more Stephen! It’s time Benson get off his butt and be proactive. He should remember that he’s our commish 1st and a BSU alumni 2nd.
Let BSU go to the MWC already. Hope BSU is still happy after Utah and TCU leaves for a BCS Super conference. The kicker is if BYU leaves too!
Nitey Nite and Tsweet Tsai-ko Dreams!
g’night and g’morning to all!
Could not find Stephen/Steven’s link to this site when I logged on to the SA page – only three sites under BLOGS and nothing in the sports. I assume that this will be remedied after they figure out whether to call him “Stephen” or “Steven”.
good morning Hawaii!
KAZZ: While I have a little monthly donation to the Tsaiko fund,I have no problems with a donation to the softball pot.
I have been trying to figure out language which would not diminish the UH allocation to a program because of these special donations.
If the AD has given the golf program for example, $20,000 a year for the past 3 years, I would not want to see the $20,000 reduced because of outside donationss. If people decide to set up a monthly donation of $5 a month which would generate $500 a year, I don’t want the AD to reduce the golf allocation to $19,500!
Sooooo heeeeeeeere’s where everyone went… I was looking for you guys… =)
As far as I’m concerned, Na Wahine were #3 in the World Series.
OK. Gotta sleep. Hahahaha!
Peering into the windows of the new clubhouse. Wow, very energy efficient 3-way windows with auto-shutters able to withstand hurricane force winds.
Anything that’ll keep those two pesky Tsaikettes, Esme & jmxxxx, from trashin’ the place is a plus.

Wow over 500 on the first day’s post. Not quite 24 hours.
Esme . . .
Not there. Still here. But will be in a few weeks.
Conflicted about BSu’s football team. With them, when UH wins the WAC’d it means something. Without them, who did UH really beat?
We would be the king of the bump.
Gosh. Just noticed the blog clock is correct.
Okay, not quite used to that!
Wafan should be checking in soon. Just wanted to comment on your query from last night.
The Princess now sees herself as somewhat of a *Fashionista.* She will be the most color coordinated Pitcher in the Rainbow Wahine rotation one day.
Good Morning Tsaiko Family!
Happy Wednesday!
Ok, off to work.
Btw Wafan. My freshly graduated Damien nephew got a Schollie to a D-2 Catlick College in the Lone Star Conference. Picked up an extra $10k from the church on the academic side.
Hi ho Ronnie!
Great to see the blog alive. Got to work on my Army tix.
The “secret” meeting of the Regents for Colorado actually was to discuss moving to the Pac-10. It seems that they are worried about the exit fee for the Big 12. They say that they don’t have an invitation for the Pac-10, but official invitations won’t be extended until everything a done deal.
Kansas is upset about being left behind in the Big 12. However, it is their fault that their AD had to miss the Big 12 meetings due to their ticket scalping controversy. If Kansas didn’t have anybody there when Texas was looking for Pac-16 teams and Nebraska was looking for teams for the Big 10…you snooze you lose.
interesting post, pretty much covered it all for me, thanks. poker
Garret,
Thanks for all your info. Saves everyone time from surfing for info.
Ehhh?!!, what’s up doc??
I thought this blog was a gonner…I’m glad I kept surfing around and found you’al!!
Aloha/howdy from, Marshall, Texas, to all you Tsaiko survivors.
I’m in total agreement with ST; WAC commish, benson better start like, yesterday to become more proactive with our own expansion plans….in particular, offering SanDiego St., and UNLV, as they fit perfectly with the WAC.
Wahine sb team on KGMB this morn sometime between now to 8:00 a.m.
808ike,
I’m glad that you find the information useful. I’m following this very closely because of its importance to UH. There are people in Hawaii far more important than me to this and I know that the information may be useful to them. I also have a lot of ties to UT-Austin and it appears that Texas is central to all of this realignment situation, so that make things even more interesting to me. I only post about 25% of what I find though because I don’t want to overload the blog even more than I currently do and because a lot of what is published is just a duplicate of other articles or is wrong on the facts.
Garret,
OVERLOAD!!!!!!!!!!
morning gang!
Kazz – droid
Garret – i too appreciate the info
Moving from the WAC to the MWC would give BSU about $3 million more per year in TV/basketball/bowl money. Why would SDSU or UNLV want to get $3 million less, pay MORE for travel, and lose their chance at being a BCS AQ conference by joining the WAC?
ST said earlier in the blog that UH should try to poach some of the MWC’s schools. The Advertiser reported a month or so ago that Karl Benson and the WAC *did* approach at least SDSU and UNLV. However, I cannot understand why they would choose to take less money and spend more in travel to join the WAC. The WAC’s schools also bring less fan interest, which would hurt attendance.
The fact is that UH would join the MWC if asked. So, why would UH fans think that MWC schools would choose to leave to join the WAC?
Things could be different if the MWC got raided significantly, but they have more TV money, more NCAA basketball money, and bigger paying bowls to offer schools to join them even if they lose some of their top teams.
808ike,
Have you read all the articles about how Texas might still end up in the Big 10? They are actually pretty plausible and well researched, but I don’t post them here because only the Pac-10 rumors directly affect UH.
I don’t post the articles about schools positioning themselves to be grabbed by the SEC or ACC (killing the Big East), since it doesn’t affect UH much. The only thing that does affect UH is that the Big East or ACC might end up taking C-USA schools, which means that La Tech would get to join the C-USA like they wish.
The MWC is apparently trying to make a big push to get Colorado. However, that would be $10 million or so *less* per year for Colorado and they already have a budget deficit, so that is pretty much a worst-case option for Colorado. Colorado’s horrible football record would hurt the MWC’s chance of getting an AQ spot unless the Big 12 went away…then they would become one automatically it seems.
Anyway, these are little summaries of some of the stuff I’m not posting.
By the way, if Nebraska joins the Big 10 as planned in 2011, then they would pay Texas at Nebraska this season and *not* need to play in Austin next season. Nebraska will get a huge pay day from having Texas at home this season, especially after the Big 12 title game last season.
Garret,
Agree! Texas is the driving force of the realignment of conferences. I think
ND is second.
Fox is trying to keep the Big 12 together and is proposing a 20-year TV contract extension! If they are offering Big 10/SEC money guaranteed for 20 years, that would be more than $4 billion!
The funny thing is that Fox also will apparently own 49% of the Pac-10/12/16 TV network when that gets started in 2012. So, Fox wins either if the Big 12 stays together or if Texas goes to the Pac-16. Fox *also* owns 49% of the Big 10 TV network, so they win if Texas goes to the Big 10 also.
808ike,
I read reports that the Big 10 is offering to go to a “pod” setup (similar to what the WAC-16 used!) if they go to 16 teams. Multiple reports say that they are trying to make things attractive for Texas to join them by offering to put Texas A&M, Nebraska and *Notre Dame* in the same pod as Texas. That would give Texas an annual game against Notre Dame, plus an estimated $40 million in TV money.
I don’t believe the pod setup is true, but I do believe that they are using Notre Dame as an incentive for Texas to join them.
9am here, I’ve got to get some work done. See everyone after 6pm.
Great Morning All!

Why not “Ferd”‘s Werds?

Jeremiah Taeatafa Masoli (born August 24, 1988 in San Francisco, California) was a college football quarterback for the Oregon Ducks football team.[1] On June 9, 2010, the university announced that Masoli had been dismissed from the team following his arrest for drug posession two days prior.
Wasn’t he suspended from the 2010 season for 2nd degree burglary in March? Now he’s off the team for good, I bet. Too bad… but obviously his vices were greater than his team spirit.
