I can see the athleticism is way up. Hope Kennedy can get qualified. I’m stoked that St. Juste made it too. If Marcus Kemp performs like Matt Kemp (talking about the production)he’ll be a superstar. At 6’4″ he has the potential to be a game changer. The question is, can he catch the football consistently and run good routes.

Is Sergio Garcia a whiner? Was all his complaining about he being distracted by Tiger and Tiger fans an excuse for a bad shot? Is he a victim as he said he was? And what about the 17th hole when he put 2 balls in the water. Was that bachi? The way I see it, yes, Garcia is a complainer and a whiner. There is a history with Sergio about this kind of thing when things don’t go his way. But, he is his own worst enemy. The problem with him is between his ears. That’s why I doubt he will be a consistent winner on the PGA tour. He has so much talent as anybody, but his brain and mental toughness and patience won’t let him play well for 72 holes. He’s great in individual matches or single rounds or as partners, but somewhere along the way over 72 holes in stroke play he finds his way to making shocking stupid mistakes. For that reason he will never be truly a great player. Tiger will beat him almost every time they tee it up. Just my opinion.

in terms of the 3rd round 2nd shot on the #2 hole by Sergio–sentiment was at a draw…no blame for Tiger but it was OK for the Spanard to complain….what was missed was the risk Sergio took in the final round @ the Sawgrass 17th by going straight at the par three flag…it was an all or nothing shot to win. Kind of reminescent of the movie Tin Cup with Kevin Costner. Garcia was tied with Tiger and Woods had played the hole safe hoping to force Sergio to make a mistake. Sure enough, Garcia hit the water twice in his risk-reward attempt and virtually took himself out of contention with one hole remaining….this will follow Garcia long after he retires and will add to the legend of Tiger Woods. His 300th start, 78th victory and a lesson for the golf world to savor–let your clubs do the talking.

One thing I conclude is that pro golfers, men and women, are the most spoiled professionals ever!!

in today’s faster paced game with no huddles, you need more athletes who can play.

I really believe teams will have a hard time matching the bigger, faster, taller, and more athletic receivers UH will put on the field. potentially, teams will be looking at all speedy 6 foot plus receivers. in my opinion height is already a form of separation for receivers.

i can see lots of play action and option reads coming with a horizontally and vertically stretched field…gonna get lots of pukas for graham to throw in and speedy backs to pick their way and find natural daylight.

might not be the R&S still….but i’ll take the “shpread”…spread’em shred’em speed offense anyday!

Biggest difference between Tiger and the rest is between the ears. While others can match his physical game, no one comes close to his mental game.

That’s why he’s always near the top of the leader board, even if his physical game is a little off. Also a big reason he’s won 53 out of 55, when tied or in lead, when entering final round.

Tied for the lead at the 17th hole…Tiger goes for middle of the green….Sergio goes for the flag….par versus quad bogey….end of tournament.

In a way I admire Sergio for going for it…. He went for the pin that was his only chance to catch Tiger. Reminded me of Kevin Costner in the movie Tin Cup, when he went for it a second time… He could have played safe and won a lot more money. Instead he dropped from 2nd to 7th….

Sergio should be grateful to Tiger. Tiger “made” Sergio into the richest golfer(currrent) never to have won a major.

Tiger super charged Sergio’s Q rating by agreeng to that made for TV one on one match back in 2000. The hype before and after the match propelled Sergio from just the sports news to the general and entertainment news pages.

Sergio has made many millons on the course but should thank Tiger for the many more millions he’s made off the course. Fueding with Tiger is a good way to keep your name in the News.

Was watching the State Track Meet on tv and saw Ewaliko run his sprints. Comments were correct. He is fast and strong. Has an unusual running style with his feet pointed outward when he runs. But he blew by everyone.

Minnesota started this season 3-6 and went 32-11 since, capping the season with a 3rd place finish in the B10 T with an upset victory over regional host and number 14 seed Nebraska. Their best finish since a second place finish in 1999.

Minnesota’s lead-off hitter, Tyler Walker is a handful at .393 with 51 runs scored, an OB % of .475 and 20 thefts in 23 attempts. Walker also has 12 homeruns and 31 RBIs. Shades of Kelly Majam, except Walker is more active in steals (Majam has 10 swipes). Minnesota has speed to burn on the bases, stealing 93 bases in 108 attempts. They will be bunting on Kaia. Scouting reports point to Hawaii’s weakness on D is the bunt, at four points–C, 3B, P and 1B. Especially, throws from the circle and quickness to the ball from the catcher’s position….with the exception of Walker and Kaityn Richardson (.440), the remaining Gophers do not hit for average but will lay the ball down on the dirt and sprint for their hits.

Richardson bats in the #3 spot and is nationally ranked with her .440 BA and a whopping .560 OB%. She leads the Gophers with 41 RBIs and his second to Walker in HRs (10).

Minnesota, like Hawaii (304), KOs alot–300 whiffs. if Parnaby can solve Walker and Richardson and is at her best, Hawaii will be in great position to win.

Minnesota’s pitcher, Sara Moulton brings heat and is nationally ranked in victories with 31 and strikeouts (279). She has great control and issues under two passes per 7 innings (1.75). Moulton has great command of her pitches and doesnt make many mistakes, yielding only 7-homeruns over 279 innings pitched. Compared to Parnaby giving up 17 dingers in 290 innings pitched. Moulton has been stingy overall in Xtra base hits, giving up 28/192 or 14.5% of her hits being doubles or more. Kaia, has yielded 45/213 or 21% of her hits have gone for xtra bases.

It all comes down to playing solid D. Wahine D has to sparkle and cut down on mistakes in the infield.

At times Hawaii’s D has collapsed under pressure especially when pressed with speed.

Huskie Stadium is a bigger field than the friendly confines at Manoa but the base paths remain the same distance. So our OF will have to play coverage well and make accurate throws back to the infield or cut-offs.

Coach Coolen has said, the Rainbow wahine will “play their game”.

I do not know how to interpret his statement for the Seattle Regional and his preparations for Minnesota in particular.

The Gophers present a different package for our D and bats.

We need to play loose but well prepared.

Thank you all for the great imput. Love the stuff on softball. Being here on the mainland, I don’t get much of the info on UH sports. By the way, in 1968, Renaldo Brown a high school student in LA, went 7’2″. He also won the Olympics with a similar jump. Still at 6’9″” + , Kemp would add a few points to the UH track squad finishes.
