Not in my house
One of UH’s proudest days also is one of the most conflicted.
Because of the commencement ceremonies this Saturday, Les Murakami Stadium is not available for the UH baseball team that night. Apparently parking is the issue because the ceremonies will be at Stan Sheriff Center. The Ching Athletic Complex and Murakami Stadium are used as lei-gifting areas.
The ‘Bows have to fill their schedule in a certain time frame. The ‘Bows have booked every weekend of their schedule. The ‘Bows and Fresno State reached agreement to play each other in a non-conference series this weekend. But with Murakami Stadium unavailable for three consecutive days this weekend, it was decided to play the series in Fresno. The state baseball tournament will be played at Murakami Stadium through Friday.
It’s unfortunate the ‘Bows will have to travel late in the season during the stretch part of the league schedule, and that several players will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony. At last count, there were about a dozen players set to earn degrees. It’s too bad accommodations could not be worked out. Hey, I’ve attended back-to-back funerals at Hosoi with no logistical problems.
But as they say, it is what it is.

Sailor Blue bought the Bud Light Bullpen experience, which featured a pig cooked by Circle of Honor member Don Murphy. You’re free to be envious.
GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!
Foist! It is what it is.
Foist after Judge Tom!
To me it’s a no-brainer. The twelve should remain in Hawaii for their graduation, or fly with the team to Fresno for the Friday game, but return on Saturday to participate in the graduation exercises. It happens only once. There are other ball games to play.
The softball team’s 5 seniors received diploma jackets, from was it Vice Chancellor Cambra, in a ceremony after the game on Saturday . They will be on the road this coming weekend.
I remember the baseball team seniors had something like this recognition in past years.
2010 Softball Team should be in Circle of Honor as well
The problem is that commencement should be on a Sunday so the baseball team can play Thursday to Saturday. But Sunday is Mother’s Day so they don’t want it that day, even though that would be a great gift for all Mothers.
Maybe too much work for the florists and lei-makers.
Maybe I had too much coffee this morning.
Graduation used to be on Sundays but was moved to Saturday so people wouldn’t have to hang around an extra day. If I’m not mistaken the dorms have to be emptied on Saturday
RE: #8
Yes, students have to be out of their dorms by mid day on Saturday.
Not in my house also is today’s blog theme.
#19 – Try Moanalua High School, not Mililani for Austin. Why do you ramble?
ST this was an excellent topic to write about. Amazing how it turns around to hurt the student athletes
True, students need to be out on Saturdays but those participating in commencement were also given an exception to stay longer. If that is the sole reason commencement is on Saturdays, it leads to the question of why Student Housing is dictating the commencement date and explains why things are so messed up. In other words, IMHO it’s a stupid reason to have commencement on a Saturday.
hawaii traveling to play fresno st. on the road during the conference season is complete nonsense.this shows the schools commitment to athletics.
Good to see some photos of familiar faces with Mr. and Mrs. SB!
OK, one of the posts is cray-cray, right?

One of the signs of mental defect is talking to yourself.
We care. Get help. Quit spamming the blog with nonsensical posts.
