Christopher Chun, the new executive director of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association, is today’s guest on the Warrior Beat Show, which begins at about noon.
Chun will answer questions posed here and on the show’s Cover It Live Section.

For years, there was talk of revising the way the men’s volleyball team does business. Suggestions included lower ticket prices and all general-admission seating.
Because of the tsunami warning Sunday led to the postponing of a volleyball match until yesterday, UH got its wish. Tickets were priced at $8 and $3, and seats were available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The result was that the regulars sat where they usually sit. The aunties were in the end-line section. Because the team benches were on the opposite side, some regulars sat behind the benches; some were in their usual booster section. There were some who even sat in the upper level.
The disappointment was the low student turnout.
Then again, the event was announced late, and the match was played on a Monday night.
I think the experiment deserves at least one more chance.

Word on the street is that Colt Brennan, schedule permitting, will be back in town to help out with a clinic this weekend.

Happy birthday to Labrat.
1st?
Good morning everyone
Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.
#3 wow!
Okay, missed it. That fillet of fish commercial just sticks. Those two guys just make it. Which begs another question, why do they make men looks so dopey?
Top six! 😆
I think tha singin’ fish is the star o’ that commercial. 😉
Thass a wunnerful article you wrote on MVB this morning, Tsai man.
I just realized something after writing that post… You, your brother and your son could be considered Tsai men.
Must not post any more…! Must be strong! Dont wanna be like that one crazy blogger…! Don’t want to post ten in a row!
ST ~ I was going to the game until I found out that Rob25, jmxxxx, A-Joe, Kazz, and even keed sat in the area I wanted.
No, seriously. That promotion would work if given the opportunity. Also, there is a desperate need to get these guys more *face* time in public.
Schedule autograph signing and photo ops for kids inside old Glum gym. Imagine a kid the size of Homey standing between those long tall dudes.
Or…have them set up a signing table at the Les next to the Rainbowtique stand. The fans need to get next to them to really Get Next To Them!. Show them, and they will come.
Even though the announcement was made late, I thought there would have been a more people at the game. Only 1,000 for a game against BYU?? Was a great game last night. I had a lot of fun talking with those BYU guys. I think the BYU players made the crowd cheer harder and louder with their actions.
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
Dpk ~ What a name to add to Shiro’s list! Afterall, if he can name one for Joe Moore, the blogmeister certainly deserves one in hizzhonor!
Now we need to come up with a unique batch of ingredimuntz to make ‘um ONO!…any suggestions?
I’ll start it off: Noodles, Green Onions, Char Siu and Chopped Filet-o-Fish.
Chris … congratulations! Tell us how your experience playing HS sports will help you in your new job?
Gee, top something!
How’s about top of the morning to you all?
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
ohhhhh!
Good one Tom! #17
Ditto for me. Great feeling to start the morning with the Tsaikos!
Good fun last night and when I thought Chawan can get loud… A-Joe is on anoddah level.
Is there a priest on hand at the SSC the next time an opposing player decides to exorcize PowederPuff? 😯
Article about how they are planning for Aloha Stadium to be used for at least the next 20 years.
Why does the Big City Diner commercial say to bring your “softball ticket stub” for a discount off your meal?
I’ve used the BCD discount with a UH ticket stub before, but WHAT softball ticket stub??? 😯
Note that the new LED screen and the TVs with ads throughout the stadium will make money for the Aloha Stadium Authority…not UH.
Used to be where the tartar sauce made the fish filet sandwich, now it’s neither one. Everything seems so synthetic.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
ST ~ My Mom said that the information about the replay of the MVB game was buried in the HA Sports section. The info really should have been on the first page of the Sports section and in LARGE type to advertise the re-scheduling of that game.
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.
Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
Esme & whooooossshhhhh…..
Good morning Tsai-kos!
Had lots of fun last night.
Can they at least set up a spot where kids can get autographs and pictures after the game? The girls have been having to “chase” the players down for pictures and autographs. Last night they were too shy and Umlauft was busy talking to someone else.
Stretch and A-joe did a lot of talking to the BYU players last night. 😆
I want that baby back, baby back-ribs!!!, with potato salad….pleeeezzz.
Aloha Stadium is indeed a “State of the Art” facility.
The art is circa 1975 though.
Christopher Chun,
Last year the SOS FUND was a big hit in the sense that there was a lot of support from individuals and businesses.
How problematic will it be for this to be an annual source of funds for the HHSAA considering the current economy?
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
Still haven’t gotten my pc working 100%…Betty goes in an steals my daughter’s laptop while she’s sleeping so I can catch up to the blog and email! Microsoft spent almost one whole morning via remote setup working on it and couldn’t fix it. No virus, just corrupted system files that couldn’t be fixed. The guy tried everything in his tool kit while I watched for hours. Seemed like a magic show with the pc operating itself (it seemed). My cell had to be plugged in cuz the battery was running low as he gave me a running commentary all the while.
Didn’t quite understand the idea of backup before…now I do! Thought it was for older pc’s that might breakdown. Listen folks! When you get your pc and get it to where you want with all the software you want, back it up! I didn’t realize that all the newer pc’s have built in applications to do that. I bought a 320 gb external drive at Costco for cheap and will use it as a repository for my backup when everything is good again. I’m backing up everything to include the operating system. As I understand it, the backup software checks at intervals and copies any files that have changed.
Please don’t be like me and be the ostrich in the sand. After I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled the operating system, it was so hard to reinstall all the programs. So many things had to be reconfigured to match what I had before…like email, anti-virus, browsers…plenny! My wireless adapter refused to recognize its drivers even when I dangled them in front of its face. Physically opened up the pc case and removed/installed the card a half dozen times. I had searched the internet for hours for the Windows 7 64-bit drivers (well known manufacturer’s site didn’t have them). After a day of wrestling with it (desperate for internet access) and needing to return my daughter’s pc, I removed the $60 piece of junk and used a $10 cheapie from an old broken pc. Of course it works!
Christopher Chun
pardon my ignorance.
please tell us which high school you graduated from, which sports did you participate in, and if you have kids in which high school?
mahalo.
Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.
Warrior Volleyball was great last night!
on a rather curious note…
shouldn’t the assistant coach and director of player personnel vacancies have been filled by now?
again prolonging the decision stirs the pot even further.
is there a road block somewhere?
a chink in the armor?
just wondering aloud.
Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish
good morning tsaiko country
congrats to cwade and his vball team on demolishing the cats from provo. supa effort by all
esmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Robby…you suck!!
Those words will resonate in my head for some time. BYU surely didn’t help themselves by getting arrogant and one player pulling up on his shorts…well, let’s just say he instigated fan taunting to a NEW level. PowderPuff indeed needed to be exorcised and Stretch had a soulmate right across the aisle from him!! I thought that Alan Hackbarth might need to be restrained, but nahhhh, let him loose on those BYwho? guys…they sked.
A-joe, you think that they understand?
It was a great night to be at the game and we saw Vili Nauahi at Zippy’s afterwards too.
Christopher Chun,
Congratulations on your selection.
What made you decide to seek/accept the position as head of the HHSAA?
Happy Tuesday all…
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
A-joe, Rob25 and PowderPuff…you looked good on TV last night…:-)
Did anyone record last night’s game? It would be a great one to have!
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
Rob25 – you mean dem senior (citizen) BYshoo players? 😆
Mr. Chun,
What are the new or innovative things that you will try to do to keep the HHSAA moving in a positive direction?
jm2375:
I told your daughter not to give Umlauft or Zemljak the ball until they made eye contact. She was the ball girl; she was in control.
ST – you lucked out. Her friend was on the other side. She’s the one with a crush on Umlauft. Stretch got lucky too, she was sitting behind him for the first game.
BTW, the girls said Stretch, A-joe, PP, Rob were very cool and can we sit behind them again?
Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.
Great win for the vball Warriors last night! Congrats to the Tsaikos in the crowd who got in the heads of the b y who players last night.
BTW- if you want more student turnout, offer free pizza. Works everytime!
Good morning everyone!
Re: #12
Stretch — Most Tsai-kos lived through the years of the great BYU rivalry…especially in football. But I just realized that most UH students today were not born yet or were less than 5 years old. BYwho? You old. 😆
Paka- great video. Anyone remember that happy feeling a couple seasons ago?!?!
SteveM – talk about old. Have you seen the “Beat BYU” towel?? THOSE are old and so is whoever has one.
GOOD THING I don’t have one of those towels…
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
never seen one either.
Last night was the first time we’d ever sat within ‘howdy distance” of other Tsai-ko regulars in the Stan Sheriff Center. They’d moved into our new regular seats by the time I arrived at 5:30 pm because 1) it was open seating and 2) they wanted to be on the same side of the court as the teams who’d also moved from their regular side of the Center. We wound up sitting behind the Tsai-kos a couple of rows further upin the stands.
During basketball games they sit opposite the teams behind the K-5 crew and the arena announcers.
Although we didn’t sit with the group, it was interesting to watch and listen to their interchanges with the BYU team. I wonder what it must be like to hear them at the Bowsball games yelling behind home plate. We sit upstairs on the third base side.
Speaking of baseball, this week’s schedule is really a weird one with a Friday afternoon/early evening doubleheader starting at 3:35 pm which conflicts with the softball doubleheader across the street starting at 4 pm. I’ll probably listen to the first baseball game on the radio and go to the first softball game and then meet up with DrDoc for the second baseball game which I expect will start around 6:30 pm.
Saturday’s game with Citadel starts at 1:05 pm while the softball team plays a doubleheader starting at 4 pm. Another day in the quarry!
Lots of good news on the public policy front. Will report that later.
That’s a nice video, even though it’s SMU. Anybody got the digits for the guy in the bikini top?
Mr Chun
HHSAA’s growth has been incredibly beneficial for Hawaii’s youth. What do you keep in mind as key thoughts for fund raising during your stint as the head guy?
mean the video.
i keep thinking that we should have been playing opposite of smu. that would have rocked the rust off the aloha stadium.
We need more BYU games scheduled for all the UH Sports teams. This rivalry needs to resume.
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
kazz,
i pick my moments when the crowd/band/announcers are silent to be heard. robin, stretch and pp folks can be heard no matter what.
Garret:
I sat in on the CBS Collegiate Sports presentation at a recent Aloha Stadium Authority meeting. The screen will be very different from what fans are used to seeing.
Another reason why UH needs to take ownership of the Aloha Staidum. Remember, they get zippo de nada from all the peripheral income.
FYI: $53,280,000 has already be appropriated for Aloha Stadium repairs and another $12,000,000 is in the Governor’s version of the FY10-11 budget which starts through the legislative process tomorrow, Wednesday, March 3. I am still trying to find out how much money already allocated has actually beem released by the Governor.
An additional $125,000,000 + or – is expected to be appropriated over the next five to seven years to accompany the proposed transit-oriented development projects – assuming the mass transit system is not killed.
Even if it gets cancelled, I believe that the surrounding area will be developed into a multi-use urban neighborhood; however, by the time that happens, you’ll be a tutu kane playing Go at a local park while keeping an eye out for the grandkids..
Oh no Steve din’t….did I just see him calling me old because I said BYwho??
Hmmmm!
Taylor Mays, USC, ran a 4.43 40 at the 2010 NFL combine and he came in weighing 220 at 6’3. Another Ronnie Lott. Shays say Eric Berry, Tennessee, is rated higher than Mays, although Mays out ran Berry. I’ll take Mays, I think his height and strength will help in the red zone, one hit, one stop.
Stretch – I think there’ll be a lead slippah heading your way (towards your bolo head)
So, what have we learned about Wahine Softball this year after a rough home/season opener and a lengthy road trip completing the toughest tournament around in NCAA D1 softball?
Na Wahine are 9-6 with losses to the nation’s TOP programs in #2 Arizona, #13 Georgia Tech and sharing one loss and one win over then # 10 Stanford. They’ve dominated the wins they’ve gotten over teams they were expected to (wo)man-handle and started off their first away tournament with two wins against two undefeated programs in Utah and UNLV. So in essence, no real surprises there, even with the preseason expectations, the win against #10 Stanford was GREAT but not totally unexpected as Na Wahine have had a track record of upsetting highly ranked teams early in the season.
Pitching actually remains a mystery, well to a certain extent. Stephanie Ricketts had no choice last season to be “IT” and “IT” is what she became last year. Softball fans and even casual fans saw her mature into a presence and saw her get wins on her own effort at times last year when the batting was inconsistent. When Coolen signed Kaia Parnaby, the Wahine softball followers breathed a sigh of relief knowing that Ricketts was going to have some help, we all waited to see what Parnaby was going to be like and all the while, I think many were content on knowing Ricketts would pick up where she left off last year. So far, that doesn’t seem to be exactly the case.
Parnaby opened her individual “season” on FIRE and right off the bat I would say she’d end up along side teammate Kelly Majam as WAC Freshman of the Year 2010 candidates. As for Ricketts, no doubt, she still has the experience and the softball IQ to have started our biggest games against the toughest competition. At this point it’s mental I believe perhaps with both the fans and her or maybe just the fans… Expectations for an athlete gets high when they give us reason to have them. Ricketts has struggled a bit, and in “struggled” I mean in comparison to the pitching standard she created for herself last year. We’ve seen it before. Colt was untouchable in 2006 and little more “human” in 2007. Injuries and a busy off field schedule contributed so we know there are reasons behind a student athletes’ performance on the field from time to time. Without compiling or researching the stats, Ricketts already has already been walking more batters than one would be comfortable with and her ERA has almost doubled from last season’s ending 1.96 (approximate #).
Stephanie’s Ricketts’ success on the mound is indeed the key to the season. Pitching in baseball and in softball is key. Parnaby has been very good, but untested this early on, yes she started against #2 Arizona and lost, but to really be tested requires more opportunities for the longer term. Ricketts IS tested. Parnaby will be great for us as the season goes along for many seasons to come, but this team has the tools and the right amount of senior leadership combined with underclassmen contributors to make some noise in the WAC tournament and in post season play.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Wahine play and this weekend starts a massive string of home games until WAC play starts so we’ll get to see the difference in her game, as well as the play of the rest of the team from the opening home tourney.
Bob Coolen said that the opening loss and performance against McNeese was due to the team looking for answers amongst each other instead of the leaders leading by example. As a sophomore, Ricketts is a leader and still, in my opinion with MUCH respect to the rest of the team, the face of the program this year too.
Ricketts needs to be the one to say, “_ _ _ _ it, let’s GO!!!”.
Yeah, no pressure huh? 😯
Kekoa,
For BYU men’s volleyball, they have NO choice.
After last night and the previous Friday, if they had a choice they’d NEVER come back.
You can thank, Stretch, Rob, A-Joe, and PowderPuff for that! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!!
Mr. Chun. Good to see you take the reins.
Q: What are the plans for expansion? The Leeward coast is growing. Will there be room for another High School?
Kazz: WHAT?!?! I was on my best behavior last night…actually, all the time. I am a Kamehameha graduate…some of us were taught manners!!
Kazz ~ You have never heard them work the basebows games…with Koakane filling in while they take a beer break it get’s really crazy!
OK, who thinks this is a dumb move? ProBowl before the Super Bowl?
http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/20100302/BREAKING02/303020030/2011+Pro+Bowl+scheduled+for+January+30+at+Aloha+Stadium+
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
Sat with sj-macro & myki last night across the SSC from Stretch & a-joe…we could hear them. I think I only caught PP’s voice once. I missed the BYU shorts taunt; what a putz.
Only 4 more MVB home games…
Paka — great video! Mahalo.
You know, I was looking forward to sitting with Stretch, PP, and Rob at the mvb match. Maybe I lucked out with the cancellation. 🙂
Agreed. But can we rekindle the passion of such a rivalry with a “generation” gap? We were there…years of frustration ended by lopsided wins… c’mon score a 100 points, beat ’em by 65, that’s OK! It was lizard brain time. Never had that feeling again toward any other team…
Rob25 were you not taught that it was a sin to tell a lie???? naughty naughty and having your fingers crossed behind your back doesn’t count
Hiya! Please keep Ryan Mouton in your prayers. He’s getting checked out for sickle cell and other possibilities.
SteveM your right but that’s where UH marketing needs to step up to the plate, an rekindle that feeling somehow.
Here is one idea for the BY-who rivalry, DVD made by RK with clips of all the games between UH an BYwho that he can find, showing the years of defeat, then the climbing of the mountain and UH standing on top Once and for all.
Shout out and prayers to Ryan Mouton – believe in thy self – full and speedy recovery!
Pomai:
#77 – yea, that would be neat to suffer all those years, 10 to be exact, and come back and win the last 3 or 4 games played. Garret Gabriel will always be one of Mrs A-house’s most favorite UH QB – hmmm, did “Colty” move to #1?
We have UHS tapes of the games, but they are old and some are very moldy. Anyone know how to “rejuvinate” the tapes by getting rid of the moldy stuff? Midori7 wants to copy them to DVDs.
Haha… If Princess Leila is my daughter… that makes me… ???
Hi Faye!
BYU and certain BIG 10 teams are much like professional golfers – always monkuing and giving excuses why they did not to well – turf, officiating, distractions of Waikiki, travel, etc.
Pro golfers must be, IMHO, the most “babied” group of professionals as they want the wind to go away, they say the greens are junk, they say the rough is too tall, and it goes on and on and on. Why can’t they play the course like many others who do not have the privilege of having the course closed and prepped for the tour event. Ever notice how fairway divots come out soft with lots of cusion below the ball. Try hitting them with the fairway rock solid.
Hey, what do I know, I only play golf once or twice a year.
Paka,
Thanks for the video share. Great stuff!
Missed the show. 🙁
Give that filet o fish give me that fish
Koakane/ wassupDoc,
Info in the H-Mail says the Bud Light Bullpen is still available for BaseBow games
Give me back that filet o’fish, give me back the fish
Yes, the turnout was low…but I thought pretty good despite it being a purely walk-up crowd on a Monday night. With few people in the arena, our voices were heard, especially by those COUGARS. Okay, so my “Beat BYU” towel is probably older than most UH students, but not BYU ones. 🙂 I am ready for the next showboat who wants to start pulling up his shorts and jumping up and down on a block. Give me a break…Kent!
Prayers and well wishes for Ryan. I thought he just got food poisoning. I guess that might mean that he won’t be here this weekend.
ST, your order is in and al will pick it up and deliver.
Kent should be afraid of you PowderPuff….very afraid!!
A shout out for a few of #1 son’s classmates as they debut a new sports talk show.
The Triple Threat Show on 1420 AM at 7 pm tonight.
Give a listen.
Thanks, Whitey.
Thanks, Al
Man…I think I need to sit with Rob25 and PP……
Hi!!
ST: If your “order” is that peanut butter mochi deliciousness…I’m gonna have to hunt you down, tackle you, and snatch that puppy right outta you’re hands….
If not, then I’m completely lost. Thats what happens when I post here in spurts….Speaking of spurts…who let homey loose on the Pink Side???
D1,
I shall give it a try too sir! 😎
Chas,
You get mail.
Spurts doesn’t sound good.
I got some of the peanut butter mochi…but not the one from Maui Specialties….which is out of this world good.
Umm Colomaohana mama….you have to show up to a game to sit amongst royalty!!! Hahahaha!! or the damned as was the case when I turned to look at PP last night…who took her away and brought in the freak??? Just kidding PP!!!

BENJAMINS…
Powder Puff. What a misnomer.
Freaky Fandomonium Mama is more like it!
Regarding # 60
{Another reason why UH needs to take ownership of the Aloha Staidum. Remember, they get zippo de nada from all the peripheral income.}
What we are missing here is UH is also not responsible for the peripheral expense of running Aloha Stadium.
Watch out Coloma…boss coming to get you….”SPURTS” MWAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Reminds me of the pink siders talking about Vajazzling on Facebook yesterday…MWAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHA
Eh, YOU guys da’ one who wen’ let him loose on our side….
The bickering between he and I started as soon as his first post showed up!
Yes, JJ, spurts……Go find the comment…..
And that Vajazzling was NOT me……
Give me back that filet of fish, give me that fish….
Good game last night on men vb….
Eh, Mrs. C…I told “whoever” that was that said “I can’t wait to see what will come out for the men..” that we already had something like dat…except we just call it “DAZZLING”….MWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

The Military College of South Carolina appears to have a pretty solid baseball program.
Hahahaha! OMG – Rob25 actually left my side and ran away when the freak came out. Can you imagine if Big C was there? Holy smokes…BYU may not have finished the game – maybe.
Wow- the playhouse feels like the playhouse of former times today!
HiHo!
PowerPuff: I was afraid that your head was going to spin around and who knows what would have happened after that….scary!! The voice was even starting to sound like a deeper version of Jennifer…you know the one!! Was fun watching you from a slight distance though….
They are off to a 5-1 start including a 15-4 mashing of Radford on Sunday when they hit 5 HR’s
Don’t get used to it Liz….you just never know on here!?!?!
Hopefully fans turn out in good #’s for the series. The Bulldogs are used to playing in a pretty big stadium that they claim is one of the loudest in the South.
…but the again, they no mo’ any PP in their stands! 😉
….wait, that nevah come out so good 😳
😳 😈 😆
…or that!
Good ev-a-ning.
That was as good as I can do Alfred Hitchcock.
Question.
So you ‘re the UH athletic director would you publically discuss with the media of what you expect from your coaches in their upcoming seasons and emphasize that if they don’t achieve certain criterias then their job status will be in danger? I hope not.
Personally I wouldn’t. I can’t see anything gained by doing this. Once quidelines and quotas are placed on your coaches the message interpreted is that you’re taking a stance.
My feeling is that this is great that the UH AD, Jim Donovan, is taking a stance. But in private. Not in public. Because once the AD lets his intentions be known publically, like the number of W’s he wanted his coaches to achieve, he has to follow through or else he loses respect.
Also I think once the AD goes public with what he wanted out of his coaches, with basically dictating and either or ultimatum, this puts a lot of pressure on the players, too.
And there need not be.
Especially if the UH athletic director was thinking correctly. For he should have just kept the specifics between his coaches and himself. It would shed him a lot of grief of how he is running things, especially if it plays out, now, that Coach Nash gets a pass and Coach Trap doesn’t (with both coaches missing on the AD’s mandates on the W’s). Just watch.
Two things are going to happen. Either JD sticks to his dictatorship and coaches are fired for failing(esp. in how he made these proclamations to the media).–Which I doubt. Or the JD softens up and opens Pandora’s Box.–Which I think he will.
Anyway, be prepared of hearing an excuse coming from JD , especially when after he made these public mandates on his coaches and changed his mind after they failed …or gives one a pass and not the other…which to me will be an interpretation of him saving face. And being a screw up.
Thought it was a tsunami warning last night but realized it was PP cheering.
Kind of feel sorry for the other guys. And, why was he pulling up his shorts? Trying to show off?
Rob25 . . .
Dang. Right again!
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
#122 wafan
“And, why was he pulling up his shorts? ” I hope PP doesn’t have that kind of effect on all of the players……. Ai”yah…………………………………
Anonymous
You are correct. It should be a private matter.
Pomai . . .
Oops. Hope he had a good time at the game!
Moanalua is a nice campus. Can’t find professor Jason.
Yeah, I’d have to agree with anonymous about keeping expectations between the AD and coaches private. But I think Donovan is entitled to a little more respect – he’s got a heck of job. High expectations from everyone and no money to do anything. Would you want that AD job?
JD is a decent, respectable person who’s between a rock and a hard spot. And he’s going to need to learn some things through experience – on the job training.
He needs to find a donor, somebody with big money, like the Oklahoma State guy or the Oregon guy.
Somebody who will come in and help support the program and give him the flexibility to make some moves.
Final thought: I think one of the reasons you join a conference is to play on a level playing field. If all the other WAC schools have student fees and get roughly 50 percent support from the school, UH should do the same.
You can’t expect miracles from Donovan when he’s got his hands tied behind his back.
Peace out.
Well said MM
As far as one part of funding, is the UH Alumni office run as a professional Public Relations office or just hap hazard like some of their other offices????
It sounds like that when you are looking
Had plans to watch Bobby Nash and the Shiga Lakestars of the Japan Professional Basketball League play this Saturday night in Yokohama.
I just learned Bobby’s contract was dissolved so he is out of work.
Bummer….I wish him well and hope he’ll find another gig where he can continue getting paid to play basketball.
not much to say eh d1??? MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Happy birthday, Labrat!
#121, didn’t Bob Nash guarantee 18 wins this year? All coaches should take in the inevitable, like injuries, suspensions, etc. before making those kind of guarantees. Maybe he shouldn’t have done that. I wish the MBB well and hope they win the WAC tournament, but, in reality, its not likely. Go Bows!
Happy Birthday Lab Rat !!!
a.k.a. RedZone, in Sept.. 2006. One of ST’s longest bloggers!
Yelling at Kent Tuttle of BYU was fun. Guys, he started pulling his shorts up and down near the leg portion of the shorts when he was in on a stuff block in the 3rd game last night. Don’t mind the showboating, but don’t be down 0-2 in the match as a visitor. Coach Wade wanted him carded – badly. Coach Wade was not happy with Kent’s dance with his shorts.
But the really funny part was when Ajoe and Stretch started yelling out the plays that BYU was calling behind their backs. They started yelling, “Play 1. Play 1.” And when they got stuffed, they started yelling, “Try another play.” Ahahaha! All in all, GREAT fun with Kazz, Rob25, Ajoe, Stretch and jm2375. Thanks, Rob!!! 🙂
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
Koakane and the rest of the gang at the ball game–It was great hearing and watching you all having fun at the ball park… It brings back memories of when I watch the Japan team who used to come to the easter tournament and how they had fun cheering for their team. It sure more fun with you guys and makes the ball game more fun… Will be there often and now we know where yoou folks sit so don’t mine us if we join in…momo
Happy Birthday Labrat!
“Give me back that filet o’ fish, give me that fish.”
Maybe an athletics surcharge for students? Charge a small fee, they come in for free at any of the paid events. Seats would have to be in a section that would be benefit our team, make general seating, and have a count limit. Whom ever come after the section(s) are full has to find open seats. Just a thought…
Stephen: I was at HPU already, I had class tonight. But if you’re ever on campus again, give me a call.
Damn nap… I missed the new Triple Threat Show on 1420.
Anyone else catch it?
[…] the original: The Warrior Beat| UH football, University of Hawaii athletics … Share and […]
Happy Birthday Labrat.
Happy B-Day, Labrat!
Hey, I thought Craig Stutzman as going to be an Assistant Coach for Receivers at Memphis State. Obviously the sportstalk host tonight thought the same thing, but Stutz corrected him by saying he was a G.A. there. What gives? Is it a temporary position until something opens up there?
as=was on 148.
When I checked the Memphis website a few days ago they seemed to have all of their assistant coaching positions filled. I do think it would benefit Stutz to get his master’s degree as many other coaches nowdays do.
Kazz,
The show was only 30 minutes long; not sure why it was cut back from the originally planned hour.
About half of it was spent on a phone interview of Craig Stutzmann from Memphis. As protector said, he stated that his position there is actually a GA position working with the receivers.
They started off the show talking about the first two BaseBows’ series.
They are all newbies on the radio; hopefully they will get the chance to get better on future episodes.
el guapo,
I think that’s part of the plan….
d1,
I’m just a believer in education, especially if someone else is paying!
Memphis is in C USA, maybe next season he gets to meet up with SMU and the former Hawaii coaches. They are in separate divisions but there are cross over games.
[…] The Warrior Beat| UH football, University of Hawaii athletics … […]
Memphis did not play SMU last season, so in 2010 they will most like have a game, not sure who the home team will be.
like=likely
little kid powderpuff boot eh, about the same size but ours talks and bleeds green and drinks a lot of green bottles.
See – wasn’t it good that there was general admission seating last night? Otherwise we would have been in two of the five seats seats occupied by the T-Hecklers so they would have had to move closer to the BUY team.
Old Diver: I’m tracking down the Aloha Stadium’s financial records to get the most accurate recent figures; however, the Stadium Authority has been in the seven-digit net profit region from what I’ve seen and heard for a very long time. Maybe in very good years even low eight-digit numbers.
Howwever, until there’s a new governor with vision and a Stadium Authority that gets it, transferring Aloha Stadium to UH will not happen any time soon.
I’ve now been referred to my fourth contact for the Budweiser Blue Tent in the Bullpen promotion. Hope to have the answers to several key questions by tomorrow night.
Will make a report here and then people can make a final decision as to what date, how much, and who’ll be responsible for all the organizational stuff such as reservations, collecting money, etc.
Sleep dreams
Ralph,
He mentioned that his hope was to meet up in the Conference title game.
ST –
Not entering, but “classic” contest for the free tickets tonight.
“Give me back that filet ‘O fish, Give me that fish”, is a damn catchy song isn’t it…?
D1 he has to help memphis build up like June did at SMU. Memphis finished dead last in their division last year. Memphis 1-7 in East division, 2-10 overall.
Whoops!!!! BUY = BYU or am I really wrong?
Congratulations to Bob for winning the tickets.
Whitey Iowa State made Kekaula’s highlights, but ISU loss in over time by 2 points on a last second shot.
Congrats on the win ‘Bob!’
Please continue posting so we can all get to know you. We are all User Friendly except maybe Powder Puff. She’s currently on a mission to rid the world of guys who seem to have problems with their shorts!
Nitey nite and sweet gimme dat fish dreams!

Anonymous,
agree with you on your final JD analysis.
in the end, all the great programs are judged based upon winning.
Notre Dame recently proved the point, UWashington last year, etc.
A happy Hump Day to all!
A happy belated birthday, Labrat!
I don’t think we play Memphis next year. It’s a 2 year cycle. We played them in ’08. We didn’t play them in ’09 so we probably won’t play them in 2010. I think we have East Carolina on the road, and Marshall and UAB at home.
Ralph,
Paka is correct that SMU does not play Memphis in 2010. Depending on the conference rotation they might have a home-and-home series in 2011/2012 or 2013/2014.
By the way, Paka isn’t the one who made that video that ST posted. A SMU fan named Thad made that video, which is part of a documentary he made about the SMU team last season. He started the documentary from the beginning of the season, so he sure had good timing as they had a winning season and bowl game after winning just 1 game each season for the previous 2 seasons.
Article about how the California State Universities are close to dropping down to D-II…with all the budget problems they have right now, SJSU, Fresno State, and other schools are really getting squeezed.
Dropping from D-IAA to D-II really changes how many women’s scholarships a school offers and only changes their men’s scholarship number slightly.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Special healing thoughts and prayers for Ryan Mouton and Jeff Reinebold today.
Time to kaukau.
Great Morning All!
Congratulations Bob!
Yet another blustery day today.
Good luck to all the State Boys’ BB participants.
HiHo….
Re-The WB Show
Well that’s a first. No comments from any viewers of watching the show. Or thanking the guests for appearing on the show.
On other shows in the past there would be a few acknowledgments.
Yesterday’s show none.
Also I noticed recently that the complaints of the video quality and choppiness “comments” outnumbered the acknowledgments.
Maybe this is sending out a message. And is related to lower viewership and poster’s acknowledgments of watching the show and thanking the guest for appearing.
It is for me. For it’s frustrating watching the video (even repeats). Nothing ever got done to fix the problem. So why bother, right?
Anyway, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that there weren’t any comments or acknowledgments following this past show.
Good morning Tsaikos. Have a great day everyone and may the sunshine bring you smiles and good health.
Good Morning TSAIKOS!!!!
Waiting to catch a flight to Oahu. The Krispy Kreme stop made me miss a flight. 🙁
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
never got the see the show yesterday, was working. will look at it this weekend, if i don’t view it before then.
have a great day gangee. gotta work. hi ho hi ho.
I really love what you write here, very insightful and smart. One issue though, I’m running Firefox on Debian and some of your site structure are a little wonky. I know it’s not a common setup, but it is still something to watch out for. Just giving you a heads up.
Intimately, the article is actually the sweetest on this notable matter. My partner and i agree together with your conclusions and definitely will eagerly look forward to ones own forthcoming updates. Saying thanks won’t just be sufficient, for your wonderful lucidity in your writing. I will quickly grab your really simply syndication feed to stay abreast of any updates. Great work and much success in your business endeavors!

It is advantageous, then, to have a repair service manual for your car, whether it is a Bugatti Veyron or a Hillman Imp. Knowing what has gone wrong with the car, and whether you can run the repairs yourself, is helpful for so many reasons. A good service repair manual will make it easier to drive with confidence, knowing that you have all the information you need to make the repair job less stressful, and possibly less expensive.
