Monday's practice
For the first time this training camp, the service teams (previously known as the scouts) ran Florida’s plays in practice. The original plan called for the Florida plays to be implemented Wednesday. But because the Warriors have progressed rapidly, the timetable was moved up.
• Quarterback Greg Alexander, who had been bothered by an ingrown toenail and tender ankle, resumed practicing ttoday. He split reps with co-No. 2 quarterback Inoke Funaki.
• Dylan LInkner, who moved to left wideout Saturday, received extended work.
• Linebacker Solomon Elimimian did not practice because of an ankle injury, which is not considered to be serious.
• Right tackle Keoni Steinhoff did not practice today because of a tweaked ankle. He is expected to resume practicing in a couple of days. Aaron Kia and Brysen Ginlack practiced at right tackle.
* * *
Cameron Allen-Jones has been impressive as a pass-rushing defensive end.
* * *
Vaughn Meatoga has played a lot while defensive tackle Fale Laeli rests his surgically repaired knee. Meatoga reminds me of a young Tony Tuioti.
* * *
You lookin’ at me?!? I’m lookin’ at you:
* * *
And this is the warm-and-fuzzy sign that greets us every day:
* * *
This is from Lon Gibson, father of basketbal player Matt Gibson:
Lil Matt has signed a contract to play in Romania this season with U Mobitelco. He will be their point guard. Last season the team finished in the finals of the Romania League. Off to Transylvania.
* * *
Mark Rodrigues, point guard on those giant-killing Chaminade basketball teams, attended football practice today.

From our friend, Jaymes Song, of The Associated Press:
I am very happy, and humbled, to annouce the birth of Sophia J. Song, who was born at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 10:10 p.m. She is 6 pounds, 5 ounces and 19 inches tall. Baby and Mommy are doing great and resting comfortably.
Baby Sophia has the grace of her mother and the appetite of her father.
Colleen did wonderfully. Amazingly, she put in a full day at the office before delivery. The medical staff noted how calm and composed she was during the process, unlike the father.
The birth capped an intereresting day that started with following Obama around the island. I had to ditch the Obama media pool while the senator was munching burgers at the beach.
We decided to go to the hospital, just in case, before taking the long drive home. And the hospital admitted her and Sophia was born five days early.
warmest aloha,
Daddy
I thought Matt was going to join a team in Australia.
Romania? Wow, how exotic!
where’s gigi’s post?? she’s been tapping her foot waiting all day for this..
Stretch — speak and you will receive!
Aloha Ka…. er, good afternoon!
4th!
WarriorMojo – you would have been proud today, Pepa worked 1st LT w/ Steinhoff out with an injury. He did pretty well.
Hey, ST- where is Kenny Estes these days….??? And Jett??
Stretch, THANKS! NOw that’s what I wanted to hear.
Top Ten, baby!
Stretch-
So how was todays practice?
Stretch, how’s “sTeeleBow” looking as the Sout QB?
Hello everyone!
Where’s H-bod and wafan? Are we sure koakane took them home?
Sout=Scout
Good to hear we are ahead of schedule!
hi xs- I was getting confused with the Homie yesterday…
Wafan said he does not have internet access while in Hawaii.
Mark Rodrigues is very cute. What’s he doing these days, assuming he graduated already?
GO SERVICE TEAMS!
g-nalo – Pho = fuh
A-Joe & Liz – just got the report from ST on practice since I wasn’t able to make it today…
For the first time this training camp, the service teams (previously known as the scouts) ran Florida’s plays in practice. The original plan called for the Florida plays to be implemented Wednesday. But because the Warriors have progressed rapidly, the timetable was moved up.

Liz:
Estes and Jett are both on the service teams.
gigi:
We’re you thinking about derrick low?
ST- how about implementing an e-mail notification system, so your loyal blog readers are given a heads’ up each time you post a new blog entry?
XLiz – next thing you know there’ll be a “Homee” too!
Congratulations and good luck to Matt Gibson. Somehow he matches Transylvania.
So, Derrick Low is the one going to Australia, then? I remember it was someone with Hawaii ties.
But which is better for one’s career? Australia or Romania?
Hey Stretch! Got any pictures you want to text to me?
what happened to the fonts???????? need ;microscope.
Top Turdy!!!
gigi – Romania is better. You get to learn how to speak Romanian.
Thanks, ST!
Thanks, Stretch and Homee…
GO VAUGHN!!!
Good news. ATT just called. My iPhone is in
homey – i didn’t take any pictures recently.
Bulla – u da man!
Yeah XLiz!
I haven’t noticed but how is the other “Bulla” at right tackle? Could he unseat Steinhoff?
good to see tee-bow practicing and giving our d a chance to do some serious work. one question, is there a defensive service team which imitates flouridah or future opponents????
If there is a email group for the Oregon State game, can I please be added to it? Am definitely going to that game now, but still working on logistics.
Also, is there still progress on a charter from Portland to Corvallis? One of the posters on the Sports Hawaii board is interested in joining us for that.
Stretch – soooo, nothing on the 16th or early morn’ 17th? 😆 Nah, just spoke with James on the phone and all I heard was “oh boy”.
homey, u r right. going get a homely, homer, homesick, homeless, homeseda, etc. u one popular guy.
Ahead of schedule is good.
homey,
Imitation is flattery. Ya don’t notice anyone tryin’ to be DPK do ya? 😆
WM – You still married after all this?
homii…
In Australia you can learn to speak Romanian with an Australian accent
From the previous post…
a-joe: Nice seeing you on Saturday night, too. Hopefully my parents will be around soon.
homey ⑤: Nice meeting you, too. My friend wants to go to Yogurtland later. Hahaha!
Good news:
Campbell’s Soup company called.
My two cans and string came in.
g-nalo – Pho = fuh
hey Homey.
apparently part time ‘Bombing’ isn’t as easy as it looks? but main thing mission accomplished. 🙂
whitey and DPK – you mean like koakane and his clan! Dat buggah get fan club!
Kelli
I’ve got your shot glass.
I’ll drop it off at UH today.
warriormojo, the last time i check, hawaiian air had a low fare departing honolulu fri afternoon and arriving in pdx in the evening and returning monday am back to hnl. was under 400.
Whitey,
Imitate Florida? You mean like putting 12 men on the d-line with 4 more stacked behind to simulate the rush?
Like Tsai sez, errybody here is a star.
But you, lil budyy shine brightest by far… 😉
Kelli – yup! see you on the 30th!
g-nalo – It was rough being a bomber, a cuban (mojito…I swear Bulla does not know the size of a shot glass), and a Primo taste tester. So what time did you pull an Esme on us?
budyy=buddy
ST,
Did Campbell’s mention if the instructions came with the kit?
Ok! MOJO!
Look forward to seeing you in Portland!
ST- nice pix – new camera? Whatchoo kona do wid the cans and string??? 😆
na nah nah…
HIHO!
Liz,
maybe the youngest one is tying the knot? eh? Wasn’t Campbell’s that sent it, it was her secret admirer.

I have some powder that can handle that shine…. 😉
ok.
closing the browser and getting back to my spreadsheets…
so whats the deal with Bolla?
and why all the hate from those on the redskins message board?
mih, something like that. that way you get to put plenty players into action instead of just watching and not getting any plays in. hahahahaaa
DPK – I may be a twinkle in your eye but nowhere near what Frank and those he is leaving with are doing for our future.
afternoon tsaikos
plenty things 2look forward to in da coming days — LLWS Semis, Decathlon, Pigskin pigout, Mililani vs. St. Louis
wonder if Kia has any chance of supplanting Steinhoff in that RT position to allow LL to start on da left side?
ST – I heard that 8 gauge copper wire is better than string. Plus get potential for battery booster.
Well, I haven’t been served with any papers. At least not yet. LOL
Whitey, thanks, that’s an awesome fare, pretty close to what Stretch got a few months back. I’m hoping more Tsaikos and Warrior fans will make the trip. I got my air travel using mileage and will be going by way of LAS.
I was wondering though if anyone was still making plans for a shuttle bus between PDX and Corvallis on the day of the game. The drive shouldn’t be that bad, but a shuttle bus works too.
For those going to the Florida and OSU games, how much was the face value of the game tickets? I’m looking at trying to get better seats behind the Hawaii bench. That might be asking for trouble on game day, though, so it’s still in the “thinking about it” stage. I mean, if I don’t rag on the Gator fans as I walk out after we win, will they still try to jump me?
bb – I’m waiting for Mike to get his hands on the Bolla report!
WarriorMojo & others for the OSU game – I am still working on a charter bus for the game. Right now, costs are about $900. Unless we can find more guys, it might be around $50-55 per person.
WM – I don’t think it would hurt if you also wear a BJ Penn T-shirt to the Florida game.
mih, after re-thinking, i think you hit upon something that should be used against the 1st team offense. the defense should have a 5 man front, 4 linebackers, and 5 defensive backs. this way they can really put pressure on the offense and make them in time to do things automatically like blocking both regular and blitzes, running routes thru holes, running pass patterns, making qb faster on his reads, etc. if the offense can handle this type, playing any team will lessen their mistakes and make them very very confident.
JJ dumped the returning starter at SMU for two freshman to battle it out. Bo Levi Mitchell, UH recruit is one of them!
homey, if I could stick your guns in the sleeves, that might be okay.
Homey, should be interesting to see.
My good friend was a student manager during Bolla’s first year. This guy took stats, practiced with the girls and did whatever the assistants asked of him. Throughout the entire season he was there he never spoke to Bolla and Bolla never spoke to him. When I linked the article to him yesterday he said, it didnt surprise him at all.
homey, or can be like stretch and wear his ua underwear.
Happy Belated Birthday to:
Tim “T-Grass” Grass 08/15 (21 yrs)
Aaron “Yoda” “Bainey” Bain 08/17 (21)
Keanemana “Mana” Silva 08/17 (20)
and for LizKauai a reminder that tomorrow’s birthday

Vaughn “Little Tony” Meatoga 08/19 (19)
g-nalo – It was rough being a bomber, a cuban (mojito…I swear Bulla does not know the size of a shot glass), and a Primo taste tester. So what time did you pull an Esme on us?
haaa, i could see Bulla was a popular guy and with good reason, on top of that he was the bartender. 😮
eh, i didn’t pull an Esme……………semi Esme maybe……………
sorry Tim… Misspelled your last name “GRASSO”
don’t really give a crap bout JJ or his ponies, just wondering if having 2 true freshman on the depth chart rise above a junior who started for about 2 years, is this gonna split da team. now i ain’t so sure if jj’s gong bowling this year, that’s okay cuz we are 🙂
69!!!! What a number!!
bb – That goes to show you what kind of person Bolla is. How the heck can you not talk to someone that is there to help your team???
u all are fast with the pingas. going take break and lurk.
BigWave – is that Grasso’s nickname?
Did anyone notice midori7 was walking around getting birth dates? I think I gave her my dog’s birthday…I can’t remember.
whitey – Hmmmm, WM wearing Stretch’s UA underwear…
Hi everyone! Just finished looking through yesterday’s blog…
Thanks so much for the sticker and the shot glass (ST just brought it by my desk). It was so great to meet so many of you and say hi to those that I already know. I had a great time. You guys are the best!! 🙂
I’m surprised he is still with the team. He if applied for the UNLV job, that should tell you that he doesn’t want to be here. Hope JD makes it mutual.
Caryn – you owe the Tsaikos a shot of CR for that glass
homey….hi cousin,
“i remember….when we used to play…bang, bang, shoot em up.”
“cowboys to girls….”
well you are still my cowboy!
i no play with girls.
how about you?
Bowzos – and we can thank HF for renewing his contract last year…
Afternoon Tsaikos!
A little late, but wanted to say thanks to all for the great karaoke on Sat! Esp to Stretch & SteveM for coordinating & handling finances, Bulla for the Midori Magarita & of course to all the awesome singers!!!
Congrats to Little Matt!
Happy Belated Birthday to Grasso, Bain & Silva!
Looking forward to Heather McMackin’s clinic tomorrow!
Hey there cuz! Wow, that’s an old song! before I was born!
Homey,
Yup you can call Tim Grasso, Tim, Timmy, TJ, T-Grass.
But his parents call him Tim Buddy Dude!
Homey – I know, we’re still paying for this BOZO’S deals.
Wafan and hbod safe plus dey neva palu da wheela and we not going say who dat
Yup you can call Tim Grasso, Tim, Timmy, TJ, T-Grass…..
but ya doesn’t has to call me Johnson……
[no really, its an old song….]
midori7 is a little leadfoot.
I was following her, and then I wasn’t following her. She zipped away on the Pali.
addahknowjoe,
re: yesterday’s post…
what are the twins saying about me and lefty??? eh? eh?
haha…
Stephen,
how are we gonna get reports from tomorrow’s clinic? who’ll be the designated tsaiko reporter? i know we’ll have lots of representation there.
I guess midori thought ST was a stalker?
chawan – The twins? You should have heard what Caryn and Kelli was saying!
Dennis,
Actually, Dan Morrison clarified things and said that Bo is the starter and Braden Smith (another true freshman) is the top backup.
homey,
what voices were you hearing? you were standing in front of the speakers all night long. you probably were hearing james whisper-sing from his back corner.
This is just a blog, but it talks about whether or not the MWC should expand by 3 teams. And they don’t consider UH one of the top 3 teams to take!
I don’t know if the AP always did this or if they had to add this because of some of the biased ballots they were getting. They are threatening to take away the voting privileges of voters who skew their ballots too much!
WarriorMojo,
I don’t know if you saw this report on SH about today’s practice, but this really concerned me!
Apparently, J. Taylor still cannot participate in practice.
chawan – fine, I’ll just keep what they said to myself and the rest of the guys.
I was just watching replays of Usain Bolt’s 100 meter WR and I must say that guy has an awesome top end! He should be able to destroy the 200 meter record.

ST- how about implementing an e-mail notification system, so your loyal blog readers are given a heads’ up each time you post a new blog entry?
…not to repeat myself, but am I the only genius who thinks this would be a good idea? kekekekeke
I was scrolling fast and thought Chawan_Cut Posted this…
ab fat, naahh, this way mo fun than one barrel full of monkeeeeeessss.
ab fat? ha ha ha
OK, brudda Kekoa will be in town (maui) on Wed, so going get muu call about 1 pm. Place will be announced later cause got to make sure they open. If any Tsaikos on Maui or visiting want to join us, just come. Will try to post place later this afternoon. Good chance that brudda al may be here too.
Mojo- I think the -face value- tix were $35 and $40 for Fla and OSU. Add $10 fee to that for HI.
bb- Redskin hate – our enthusiasm for CB5 overwhelmed the boards (not only a few Tsai-kos – plenny folks I don’t know) and some of the (normally combative anyway) resident posters thought their starting QB was getting dissed.
They were like- shadap about the rookie, system , WACky, inflated, blah blah blah pineapple QB already.
Of course, dems was fighting words.
Then it got worse when CB5 looked good in preseason “against the scrubs” and the normal Skins fans started getting excited.
It’s ugly, but gradually settling down.
Point is- Skins fans have been waiting for their franchise QB to appear for a long time (think Jurgensen) and Colt is looking pretty good to normal folk. Some want to jump the gun before he has time to settle in and learn how to be an NFL QB.
IMHO, of course
Muu Call on Wed, 1pm at Watercress Restaurant in the Waiehu Market plaza. Come as you are and don’t know when it will pau.
stretch, if you coming, the merchants are looking for your return.
abdullah, apologize for not saying aloha and welcome to ST’s blog. hope you enjoy this site as it is like no other blog site. people are family like here and always invite others to join us. Aloha and Welcome.
Aloha Tsaikos!
I am still looking for a couple more of players for my tsaiko fantasy football league. Also waiting for hawaiianbod and gorg to sign up.
For anyone who would like to participate, email me at djmitcho at yahoo dot com.
We are have a live online draft. This will take place on Sunday, August 24, @ 5pm Hawaii/ 8pm Pacific.
Aloha Everybody,
Looks like everything is kind of falling into place with the team. With only two more weeks till the game, I am hoping that all the small kine injuries to the O-Line, D-Line, and Linebackers will be all healed.
Been kind of out of the loop though the past couple of days so gotta go back and read up.
though-through
Wreck ~ Me, wafan, myki, and sj, were checking the time waiting for the 10:30 surprise package. Next thing we knew, it was 11:30. We were surprised at that.
Did anyone notice how much more relaxing it was in that room? The big screen, the comfortable surroundings and large dance floor…and then there was Esme! Radiant as ever. In perpetual motion. Just sashayin’ singing, dancing and ‘dueting’ with the stars! Was like Prom night huh Esme?
eh and by the A-joe and Koakane if you guys still out there send me one email with your contact info to kamakani underscore kane at yahoo dot com.
k-den gotta get back to work.
ST ~ What’s with Alex Gerke?? Been some ‘stuff’ spread on ceded lands about him that are none too flattering. As a result, when home town fans hang a nick like “Gerke da Jerky” ya gotta wondah wazzup.
abdullah fataai,
that’s a good idea and it is taken care of. the blogs are available via “rss” and you can be notified when tsai posts a new topic.

Kekoa, no forget u the honored guest on Wed. For this season, i going trust Coach Mc and his asst, so not going say anything that is negative. I don’t think Mc would have hired Gerke if he didn’t trust him or respect his ability to coach. This year is entirely different from previous coaching ways and maybe some no can handle and need excuses. That not good. I am sure this is not the first time Coach Gerke has been called names and won’t be the last, but if he knows how to coach and produce winners for the Warriors, I will be cheering.
homey,
forgive me. you are the man.
Ope Sawp Gangeh…dropping in and pulling out…
Nice pic of Vaughn Meatoga…one of my sleeper canditates for All-WAC DT in the near future…
K gotta pull an Esme tonight so spock the crew lataz…
ok, back to lurking.
whitey ~ I understand your confidence in coach Gerke being handpicked by coach Mack. We are on the same page. Believe me, I did not just hear of this yesterday. When I get to Maui, we can discuss this further. It goes deeper than name-calling.
eh back again for one question
eh Kekoa what’s the story behind Gerke the Jerky. no can read to fast so if anything was mentioned I neva see um.
I think from what I’ve read about Gerke he one nutts buggah. So if he gets a little out of hand, that’s what it is. The braddah is just nutts. Just as long as braddah can coach these boys up I find with him.
find-fine
Gigi ~ Sorry I couldn’t get this info to you sooner, I posted it on the wrong watchamacallit! We used to do lunch up there after a round of golf at Pali. This is my recollection circa 1983 – 1988:
The restaurant you refer to was the old Haiku Gardens. ‘Gardens’ is the key word. If you like the scenery of the Ko’olau range as a backdrop and lots of flowers, that’s what you pay for there.
The lower level of the establishment is the location used for Weddings. With all of the lush plant life that surrounds the area below and the lily pad pond and gazebo…expect squadrons of mosiquitos keeping you close company. The food is blaze’-blaze’ and the cost is not ‘word’ it these days. (IMO of course).
You really shouldn’t have any trouble getting seats for 10, they don’t seem to draw the crowds they used to back in the day. I hope I’m wrong and they’ve got good vector control for the bugs now. The food? Well, that’ll be yours to decide.
Kama ~ It’s true that he does have a ‘drill sgt’ attitude when it comes to coaching, and there is nuttin’ wrong wid dat. We all had that type of coaching experience before. It has nothing to do with the players, and more to do with his personal conduct as a representative of the team.
I was just wondering if ST had heard anything different about him. Something we can hang our hats on as we prepare for the season opener.
Good News on Cooke/Ching Field – it is being used…. by the band. They were out there this afternoon practicing on the blakc surface.
Afternoon practice was just special teams, nothing to report.
Kekoa I hope that this does not become somewhat of a problem, cause if braddah is truly one good coach then we just have to deal with his other stuff. I would just hope that as a representative of the team and the university, he decides to put whatever it is behind him and become one of the ohana which he is apart of.
On the other hand if he doesn’t, then he will need to learn what it means to be a part of one ohana. Cause would suck to lose one good coach because he couldn’t learn how to live hawaiian style.(jmo)
Hope everything can smoothe out.
k-den gotta go home
catch everybody when I get home.
True dat Kama!
iPhone in hand. The adventure begins.
Kekoa, thanks for the honest evaluation of the restaurant. My sister-in-law said she would call them again and get back to me.
gigi — re: Haleiwa Joe’s
As others have said, it was the Haiku Gardens and is now “Haleiwa Joe’s”. Peaches and I were there 3 weeks ago when her sister renewed wedding vows there. We had the buffet brunch. Maybe I was grumpy because I had to cut short a very enjoyable weekend to attend, but on my personal buffet scale of 1-10, it wouldn’t pass 4. I have not tried the dinner menu since it changed from Haiku Gardens.
Liz, you are way out there, so technologically advanced. All I have is a cell phone, which I rarely use. And this desk top computer.
you, too, Steve? Auwe!
Maybe, dinner will be better there…
BigHiloFan:
Give me your e-mail address – tommui (at) hawaii.rr.com
I hosted a dinner party last night. My inlaws told us Massachusetts does not permit liquor sales in supermarkets. You must buy it in liquor stores. They had to amend the consitution to permit liquor sales on SUNDAYs.
Also, you cannot buy liquor after 6 pm in Utah!
All the more reason to relocate to Hawaii, huh?
Also, there was a big debate as to whether it was financially more rewarding to begin getting SS benefits at age 66 or age 70.
If you live past 81, it is better to start the benefits at age 70 because the amount would be higher.
Ever wonder how other blogs compare to the WB?
I’ve been gleanig info from The Orlando Sentinel’s Swamp Things by Jeremy Fowler over the past couple of weeks. I was busy this past weekend so wasn’t able to check his blog.
This past Saturday he had UF’s compliance guy on as a guest blogger and opened it up for questions. The result? TWO COMMENTS…not only that they were both from the same reader!
Comment 1: (there was a pic of the guest on the blog)Why is there a big picture of you in your blog entry?
Comment 2:Or is that McCloskey? (the name of the blog guest)
😆
haha, D1. That’s funny.
I guess we bloggers are more loquacious.
Anyway the guy posts interesting stuff about the Geckos F-ball preparations.
This from Saturday.
Apparently one teammate thinks Percy Harvin won’t be playing in the first two games this season.
Great news for Hawaii! I hope Florida’s corps is riddled with injuries.
Most Folks who saw their spring game will recall Carlos Dunlap (DE) as one of the expected new stars for the Geckos. This article talks about four more newcomers who should make a difference for them. I’m pretty sure Mon Williams is the RB I recall as a really tough runner.
sorry, forgot to change the link to the story about the five newcomers
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_college_uf/2008/08/five-gators-who.html#more
Our people say that Letuli was not taken out because of injury.
So I’m watching TV and a preview for the chick flick House Bunny came on and had to laugh when I heard this…
The girl is in the restaurant ordering and goes “instead of the mahi-mahi can I just get the mahi because i’m not very hungry”
LMAO
disciplinary reasons, ST?
PB, was she blonde?
Starting LB’s Brandon Spikes and Dustin Doe have a lot of facial hair which somehow ends up hanging the name “Wolfpack” on this year’s Gecko Defense.

WOW, lmao, haha, duh? j/k
Liz ~ I hate to bust your bubble, but I heard on the news of the new iphone being recalled because of problems with a chip that can’t be fixed in the field. You might want to get with CS about that.
Maybe the one they shipped out has already had the new component installed. Also, keep close track of your battery life. That was another gripe they said they were getting.
Tomorrow seems to be a big day in the plans of both coaches as game prep ramps up this week; Hawaii will be at No-Aloha Stadium at noon trying to simulate Gainesville steaminess and the Geckos will try to ride out a hurricane as they attempt to simulate Hawaii’s schemes.
Hey, D1, that’s even BETTER news! Let the hurricane begin. j/k of course.
Pau4nau…
Heading to Kapiolani CS for oxtail soup.
One of #2 son’s requests b4 he leaves for McMinnville….

Aw, come one, ST, say it ain’t so. I don’t know if I should feel relief or worry even more. How long is this situation expected to last? Is it grades or conduct?
Good evening all,
Does anyone know how the “hands up” routine is going at practice?…and how successful was Dana LeDuc at getting cooperation from PRO-football Rams players to do this? I can’t imagine the pros adhering to this regimen, unless of course they got fined for non-compliance…
GO Warriors !!!
Liz,
Do tell all if you can post with iPhone…Good Luck!!
Nope, Gigi, he’s fine.
Relax, folks. Letuli is fine. There’s nothing wrong.
gigi, you do realize that “those giant-killing Chaminade basketball teams” were from 26 years ago? 😛
Went to afternoon practice after getting “robbed” by the UH Bookstore. (Yeah, I bought my books. But I got a nice discount card for local businesses in the area.) Nothing much to report. The first half was on special teams — Kelly and Symonds practiced kickoffs and punts (as Grasso was not there). They worked on kickoff and punt coverage. After that, the QBs came up and threw to half of the receivers, while the other half practiced catching with the JUGS and did those ab-crunch catches.
Hey ST: What is the deal with UH selling both Nike and UA logo wear? I would think that UA would want exclusivity after donating to the program. Is the selling of Nike gear a carry over from a previous contract? In any event, my personal opinion is that UA designs leave something to be desired thus far. Hope they come out with some new stuff soon.
ST: Thank you! I’ll be in tomorrow.
homey ⑤: Yogurtland was yummy-licious again! I just came back from going with my friend. Two people were using their heads this year and got me Yogurtland gift cards for my bday. 🙂 I tried the mochi topping… LOVED IT!
I’m going to attempt to take pictures from the clinic tomorrow. Maybe I’ll even take notes!
And the monkey arrives… Gotta go!
Nike stuff is the old stuff.
Kind of like our paper selling 150th merchandise.
evening gang, how is everybody doing?
lizk hope your new iphone is a better experience than last one. 😉 I am enjoying mine so good luck-no give up sista. btw stevem got one also and he always gives good advise so no scared ask him.
kama send an email to you so check it out when you can.
caught the beach vball and wash and may looks unbeatable. 😀 also da guy from jamaca (?) who is 6’8″ and runs da 100/200. da bugga fast and just cursing along 😯
hope da warriors start to put their stuff together only 2 wks before dey go to da swamp and with the weather d1 posted looks like it will be a swamp when the team gets there. plenty guys all busted up. wonder if the change in coaching caused many of da players to come in not ready for business ❓ (imho)
Gigi #141 and 152, no that’s not what we want, because when we win then all we will hear is that we did because we played their scrubs. We want them at full strength so that when we do win, and we will win, the world will know that we are for real.
I am waiting for UA to come out with some new stuff also. I wonder if the football team has any input into some of the designs??
Good evening Tsaikos everywhere!
we’re getting down, real close now!!!
Tom Mui
you can get me at susanleeloy at gmail dot com.
Eh Koakane
I got your email and I went send you one other one. Read um when you get chance. Thanks ah.
today I sent three faxes to Darolyn Lendio, General Counsel, UH, and Greg Takeyama, Director of Communications, UHM. cc;d Kevin Souza, Lt. Gov’s Chief of Staff. about the Ching Cooke Field fix. you gotta laugh. first Mr. Takeyama was real pleasant, but I asked him for a copy of the complaint, and he had to check with Mr. Dugg, Procurement Office. Hasn’t got back to me yet, but I’m gonna give him till tomorrow. He’s being nice, I’m being nice.
I started off da conversation by telling Greg Takeyama dat Dennis Sadowski filed the protest. He corrected me, telling me the complaint was filed by CO-HA [Builders Inc]. I said Dennis Sadowski was CO-HA’s registered agent, secretary treasurer and director. I asked for the letter; after that kind of introduction, I’m expecting his full cooperation tomorrow. I cc’d Mr. Souza on all of this.
Tom Mui, you make great points. A copy of the Tanaka v DLNR decision is coming your way. I don’t have a hard copy of the minutes of the 10/07 meeting, but I’m thinking that Darolyn Lendio knows we are looking at this very carefully and publicly , so I’m expecting her to put in long hours on this one.
Never got a chance to talk to her today, but thats what facsimiles are for. She knows the cc’s are going to ST, Ferd Lewis.
What you think? Should we get Rep. Takai in the loop now? I’m thinking that UH wants this moved along asap, so I’m just gonna keep sending out good vibes and see if my charming ways gets results, or if we gotta go to plan B.
But from wat I heard today, its pretty much a given that UH knows the advisory from the Contractor’s Board was not a rule.
what we’re left with is Dennis Sadowski crying about spilled milk and dragging down his friends on the Board.
THE HEAT IS GONNA BE TURNED UP REAL FAST, PUBLICLY.
i sure wish I had Ferd Lewis’ facsimile #.
btw, we’re using the wrong wording. instead of conflict of interest, try ‘appearance of improprietty.
laterzzzz.
Hey you guyz, i’m going to get up in da middle of the night and check my facts. if any of you geniuses like contribute samoa, go for it. we’re in this together.
Go Warriors!
Bad news for Reagan…sad to say, I saw this coming when they signed Grigsby since Miami’s RB coach was the one who turned Grigsby into a FB.
So this is a “appearance of impropriety?” I’d like to think the entire board is not involved, but…………..
Roster battles for the Dolphins.
Kelli – Pistachio yogurt, mochi pieces, nuts, and chocolate syrup!
I had to laugh when I read that because first thing that came to my mind was a 99 year old Korean lady. 😆
When thinking about UH’s past QB recruiting battles, everyone seemed to end up in a good spot for them.
Kevin Craft is starting at UCLA, his friends and family can watch him play.
Robert Marve is expected to be named Miami’s #1 QB, his friends and family can easily watch him play.
Bo Mitchell is starting at SMU, his friends and family can watch him play.
Brent Rausch is starting at UH, with UH’s coaches only knowing about him because they were tipped off by SMU’s current QB coach.
Funny how things worked out.
ST
first i’d like to thank you for making this nice spot to come hang out and meet odda peeps who got da same goal as me, Warrior Nation.
some things have happened here lately that I’d like to get off my chest. i’ve found that i’m sometimes not 100% right, and as difficult as it sometimes is for me, I try to give odda peeps a chance. what i’m saying is, maybe da facts you thinkin about wit da peep who wen pi$$ yu off could be a misunderstanding caused by someone in UHAthletics giving you dda wrong read about what was akchally said. i dunno, i wasn’t dare, but if peeps like explain demselves, apologize like dat, maybe taking da high road is good. one time 3 years ago, i akchally counted to 1000 3 times, and den i was so so pi$$ed i had to count samoa.
anyway, dats my opinion. rodney king said “can’t we just get along?: so true 😀 peace! akchally, for dat kine akshun, gotta fo face to face, look da bugga in da eye. den if yu still feel like dat, … free cuntree.
an akchally, get all kine guyz heeah wit issuuz…. 😀
in my professional opinion. 😀 i’m tinkin get ATV (alternatives to violence) class rejects heeah workin on long distance relationships 😀 I have a little personal experience in these matters. 👿 😆
Great report on da players today. keep it up gangee!
Go warriors!
Tombo just pointed out to me that the UH-Weber State game is on ESPN GamePlan!!! So, the first 2 games of the season will be on GamePlan!
Bighilofan2 are you writing your messages in classic plantation style pidgin?
Congratulations to Jaymes and Colleen! Sophia is a really cute baby!
Garret:
What is the general feeling regarding the QB situation at UCLA. Geez, I think any QB’s on the Bruin’s roster or future QB’s should carry ti leaves and Hawaiian Salt on campus. Year after year QB’s are marred by injuries.
Plus it makes Norm Chows job a bit harder.
bhf2 – I thought RK said, “can we all get along”… I know what you mean…
hey, i really like those 150th anniversary luggage tags. i’ll take the leftovers.
Eh Garret imagine if we could have gotten even one of those QB to come to Hawaii. Just imagine.
Bighilofan2 spoke with Takai this saturday and he said it is not a UH issue although it impacts UH, the issue is the dept ruling on the “advisory.” UH is in the middle, it has to comply with procedures made by a state agency…but contact him and get his take on the situation and if he can give you any insight as to who you should be directing your communication to at this time. We got your back….
hmmm. Now I wonder if the HA, HSB, and Midweek will reject my letter to the editor re Sadowski and Cooke Field. Will know tomorrow.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention this but I’d like to thank whoever left their Heineken and Beck’s in my cooler!
Ralph #177 LOL
Most of the time I have to read Bighilofan2’s post twice to git da driff, but Bighilofan2 no stop brah, you git’em. But for real Bighilofan2 tell us how you really feel about da situation?? LOL:)
: ) =
Bighilofan2 I meant your fax messages
You know Bhf2,
I think this whole situation going with Cooke Field is a whole bunch of BS. It shows that the process has still not changed to this day. It also shows that there will always be someone out there looking out for themselves rather than for the well being our beloved Warriors and the rest of the programs that use the field for there various uses.
I am happy to know that there is people out there like you and the rest of Tsai-kos that are willing to take that extra mile to make sure that things like this do not have to go through the same BS system everything else have to.
All I have to say is keep up the heat on these people and make sure they respond to each and every question you have with the most feasible answers and explainations.
Sorry for going on and on but that is how I feel. That’s all
Aww, what a cute baby. Congrats!
Florida Ted:
Hope you are hankering down for Fay and it’s a drizzle when it reaches your area.
Take care and be sake.
Koauka,
I think that “concerned” and “hopeful” would be the terms that fairly characterize the feeling about the QB situation in UCLA’s camp. Maybe Craft will be good…but they are getting *really* thin at the position!
kama krab,
Nice to see you on the blog again! I would love to have had Marve at UH, but he stayed at home and is starting for a BCS conference team, so I can’t criticize him for his choice.
Craft might have been good, but he would have missed Spring Practice at UH (though UCLA had a really late Spring Practice and he got to attend theirs) and he had only 2 years to play…I like how Rausch has 3 years to play.
I don’t think that the current coaching staff wanted a freshman like Bo Mitchell, so that is no big deal to me.
Good evening Tsaikos!!
Hope you are all having a good day!!
bhf2 – go get um! We gotcha your back!
BTW – got this email from Georgetown. Given that UH just finalized their schedule for this season, I find this surprising. Wonder what they’re waiting for?
Per seat donations range from $50 to $5000 (courtside) 😯
gg
collect early….we never know when we will leave this earth. if you wait until 70 you would have to live until about 92.
Free play link time. Please ignore my next 5 posts if you do not want the off-topic stuff.
UC-Irvine scientists got $4 mil from the Army to study “synthetic telepathy”…in other words, someone would think of something and a computer’s speech-recognition system would translate the brain waves and do what was suggested.
Japan uses about 7600 tons of uranium each year for their nuclear power plants. They are talking about getting 195 million tons of uranium from genetically engineered seaweed and from sea water.
Pretty funny that there was a 10-story-high Microsoft XP “Blue Screen of Death” displayed during the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics. The XP error message was displayed for *2 hours* during the televised ceremony.
More than 1,300 Catholic schools have closed in our country since 1990. Part of the problem is the decreasing numbers of priests, nuns, and brothers (who all work for little or no pay), which forces the schools to hire outsiders at teacher’s salaries that result in painful tuition increases. I know that I attended a week-long Jesuit retreat while I was at SCU and there were significant problems for the church due to the declining numbers of Jesuits.
Texas high school student was suspended (2 days!) for answering a phone call from his Dad in Iraq. I *cannot* believe that the school will not remove the black mark from this student’s record!
Free play links pau.

Josh Leonard’s grandmother and a few other people were asking about the streaming video that Hawaiian Telecom had last year and if they would be doing it again this year. Tombo sent me this link that shows that Oceanic is taking over the internet streaming…and they are charging a LOT more this season!
Garret,
$12 is not bad if the quality of streams are better, faster and less likely to overload than what people were getting from H-telecom.
I suppose with all the bleeding that H-tel is experiencing from lost revenues, they really can’t affford to be the highest bidder to keep the athletics package.
UH Athletic’s new website will launch on Wednesday!
madeinhawaii,
I would agree with you if the quality was guaranteed to be better. However, with the increased interest in the Warriors and this being the first year that Oceanic is doing the streaming for Warriors games, I’m worried about the quality!
homey ⑤: I had peanut butter and green tea. I ate it separately, so don’t think it was gross.
If you want to email Dennis Sadowski about the Cooke Field turf here’s his email address.
denny@co-ha.com
BHF:
I don’t know if you read my stuff on the blog, but perhaps Curveball, who offered his help, may be able to get the hard copy of the 10/07 meeting.
You could give Ferd a call or drop him an e-mail or letter. STeveM tells me that you don’t have an e-mail address but perhaps this is the time to get one, even temporarily. I use e-mail for my $50.00 arbitration (CAAP) cases!
its to bad some of the redshirts arent out at camp yet to help out with our offense by giving them a good look… the MLB or mean looking backer Kaleo Wong, walk-ons Josh Andrews who turned down a naval academy scholarship to stay closer to home, and the newly added Marc Moody from MVSU would put up a promising scout team for the Warriors, maybe not the Gators but close as we can get for service players
Garret,
Well, with less than two weeks to go, I still don’t see anything on Oceanic’s home page regarding UH video streaming. On UH’s website, it looks like they are launching some kind of Video streaming widget.
Techies handling the UH athletic website: I hope they do a better job than those who messed with the warrior beat or currently messing with the WB….imagine the nightmare of not being able to log on, long refresh time, changing font size, changing background, auto deletes, etc
Ralph,
The UH website seems to be running smoother these days, but then it could be because there isn’t much traffic till game day. Leave it to UH to underestimate the load, though.
I wonder if ST is watching “The Hills”?
Just came home from work, lo and behold, the 2008 Warrior Football Tickets have arrived.
Now that’s exciting! Wish the season started tomorrow!
I’m ready for some football.
Koauka,
Same here!
Tix in da mail today!
IS IT SATURDAY (Sept. 6th) YET?
d1 and koauka……now i am worried?
please, please mr. postman……
Shame on you Gigi. You don’t really want anyone to get hurt do you?
When you beat your opponent, you don’t want them to make any excuses for losing the game. You want to play your best against their best.
Please fellow Tsai-kos…let’s not get into the habit of hoping that our opponents incur injuries to their better players before we play them. First of all, it isn’t “pono”. Secondly, that belittles our Warriors by saying that we can’t beat them when they are at their best.
Our attitude should be that we will come to your house to compete against your best. Let the best man win.
pride.,
i agree 100%!
One more point and I’ll get off my soapbox. Once again Tsai-kos remember, even though we get all excited as Warrior fans, the opponents across the field are just kids. They’re the same age as my daughters, St’s daughters, D1’s #2 son, and Bulla’s baby boy. Football is a rough game by itself without us wishing injuries upon anyone else’s kids.
Gigi, I’m not picking on you, this is for everyone.
Okay pau, soapbox is ready to break.
Pride.: You forgot al’s adopted son/gigi’s adopted great-great-great grandson. 😉
But yeah, I agree 200%.
Pride and al,
I agree with the two of you. I know how it feels to have your son come home with a football injury, and the long lasting effects of some of them.
Ah, and Kelli, Miss Green Tea.
And James, as he insists he’s still in his early 20s. 😉
This was part of a humorous article about the Jets-Skins game
http://www.homermcfanboy.com/2008/08/18/the-pineapple-express/#comments
‘In the locker room I asked Brennan why no one else on the team seemed to know it was his birthday and was amused by his candid answer.
“I was afraid of what kind of hazing would happen to a guy on his birthday, so I tried to keep it hush,” said Brennan , who apparently isn’t familiar or very confident in coach Zorn’s no rookie hazing policy.
Either way it was the perfect answer from young quarterback who continues to improve. It’s becoming more and more apparent why Hawaii has fallen in love with this kid. If he keeps it up he too may one day get a game ball.
[Editor’s note: Matt Terl, the Redskins highly-talented blogger, writes in to shed some light on the topic of Brennan and rookie hazing. “Colt got his stuff talcum powdered at the home game, so he’s understandably skittish. Not sure why no one covered that, but there you go.”]’
No worry Al, from what I was told these tickets are mailed from a mainland printer. The mailing comes in bunches. I guess this time I got one the first bunch. Usually I catch the last mailing.
But them tickets feel good in your hands. Relief………….
Jason – I think james found out saturday night that he is no longer in his twenties.
addahknowjoe, stretch – thanks for the stickers.
Evening Tsaikos,
Thanks AdkJoe for the nice comments but what the heck are the twins saying about us??!! Chawan and I are all paranoid about it now.
Made a bet with my friend, says UH will loose by more that 32 to florida. No prob for the boys, I have faith. My friend played for Oregon St. so he talks smack all the time. Hope we beat the crap out of the beavers.
Sorry for spelling everyones name wrong last night. esp HOMEY. sheesh…hes gonna swish my head into a herman frazier.
BTW if there is no investigation on the Chinese gymnasts;s age I blame it on Mr. Platters, Herman Frazier. lol. Anything goes wrong for USA, blame it on Frazier. LOL.
Got our tickets too… wow, they are pretty like a sheet of mint stamps!
Hi Koakane, practicing now.
Just got my elec. Bill – yikes! $100 higher than last mo and the same usage ! 😡

2. “Wicked Games” by Stone Sour
We couldn’t reference the original Chris Isaak’s version because that makes us think of Helena Christensen, and once that happens we’re not coming back to football. So we’ll settle for the rough-around-the-edges cover done by Stone Sour, which seems fitting for the Hawaii-Colt Brennan love affair. If Colt keeps making plays whenever the coaches call his number, you can bet Brennan’s fan club will only get bigger.
Congratulations to Jaymes and Colleen Song, welcome baby Sophia!
Congratulations to Jaymes and Colleen Song, welcome baby Sophia!

Nitey nite!
And sweet dreams!
Hi Liz,
I’m practicing too. I’m still not very good with my i touch. Can only do one finger typing.
Time for me to go nite nite. Oyasuminasai.

Just saw on espn dot com that UH @ Utah St. on Nov 1st will be on ESPN GAMEPLAN. That makes two games for GAMEPLAN: Florida and Utah ST.

99club:
ESPN Gameplan is usually good at picking up the UH away games. I’m sure Fresno State and even New Mexico State will be aired. Thanks for the confirmation on Utah State.
Watch out Hawaii and Georgia, UF defense packing a punch.
“There’s no reason for us not to be the best defense in the nation, in the SEC. We’re working hard every day to get better. Our goal is to be the No. 1 defense in the nation.”

Thinking of throwing a party for the Hawaii fans in Gainesville.
Do you think it is a good idea?
99club,
Great news about the Utah State game being on ESPN GamePlan! Last night I posted the link to ESPN’s schedule that showed that the Weber State game was on GamePlan, so that means that there are already 3 games (including the first 2) on the GamePlan list!
It appears that Hawaiian Telecom is *not* doing the internet streaming this year. Last night I posted a link from Oceanic’s website that said that Oceanic will be doing the streaming for $12 per game.

Quick update on Kama Bailey. My best friend is a college official and he worked Idaho’s scrimmage on Saturday. He said Kama was the best looking running back they had and wouldn’t be suprised if he was starting before the end of the year.
Ok, Esme and out!
bighilofan2,
Your plan sounds good. Don’t forget to check out the bars near the stadium before the game, kids are okay. Visit Gator City, Salty Dog, Balls, Grog House, Copper Monkey, and Swamp.
Planning a party after the game at a local restaurant at around 4:30pm. Free appetizers and a cash bar. Can you go?
DENNIS SADOWSKI,
the bottom line is, as a very highly placed politician said recently to me:

what is your projected timetable for resolving this dispute? which agency/departments are involved in this fiasco? which agency are you thinking is making the decision? [I’m thinking that UH doesn’t no since Legal counsel doesn’t keep a copy of your complaint, or so i was told. and UH communications doeesn’t have your records for me to get a copy of, I gotta go through Procurement Mr. Duff, , or so i was told. I’m trying to keep an open mind.
tomorrow (Wed) I’ll ask the questions a little more pointedly. Then I’ll go copy Jeff Portnoy’s complaint and get to the bottom of this….
Aloha Kakahiaka!!!
BHF2: MAHALO for taking up the battle! Since you one lawyah, I have faith in you to get to the heart of this issue. It’s so transparent what Sadowski did with the “rules” when sitting on the Contractors’ board.
ST ~ Could you email me about my mail to you? I wanna know… Tanks,eh! I gotta go back to cleaning house & can’t hang on the blog.
Esme & out …
DENNIS SADOWSKI
I learned my cake cookin tekneek from Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm: 2000 degrees for 5 minutes, vanilla frosting

i not interested in making frenz…. i interested in gettin da field fix now.
Jeff Portnoy had the luxury of not really caring when the info came in, just so that it came in this year.
things alittle different for me. i like the field fixed by end of October, like was planned. to do that, i gotta move a little more fast, get to da back door supah fast, no worry about all da china in da way…
DENNIS SADOWSKI, UH peeps, i hope you’re reading this..
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Looks like it’s going to be a productive day at work (as always) with the team holding a closed practice at Aloha Stadium. ST will have to give us the update.
I wonder what sj and myki will be doing today
Mei Ling,

Good Morning bhf2, Mel Ling, Stretch and Tsai-kos everywhere!
It will be a more relaxed morning, no rushing around to make a doctors appointment a day early like yesterday. sj is still in bed so I can make fun of him. He will be at the doctors office and we both will meet friends for lunch at Camellia, then later on this afternoon I have an imaging appointment.
Tonight, sj will pick his sister up at the airport and I will be at the SSC for Mrs. Mack’s football clinic.
Wow we sure get a lot more accomplished on non-practice days.
Great Morning All!
Hope the sun beats down on da team at noon.
Put wattah on da field first; make ’em STEAMY, den go practice. 😯

“Jordon, a former Waimea High School runningback who went on to star at Colorado University, is now a Detroit Lion where he picked up two tackles and two assists in his outing last weekend.
“He’s still absorbing the fact that he’s a Lion,” Higa said. “But when he was first drafted, I told him that he needed to give back to the community.”
That prompted him to make an arrangement with Under Armour, one of Jordon’s endorsements, to provide the football team with shoes.
At first he wanted shoes for both the junior varsity and the varsity players,” said Jon Kobayashi, the Waimea High School athletic director.
“But the player arrangement he has prevented him from doing that. Instead, he came up with 50 shoes: that’s worth about $10,000.”
Higa said she thinks that Jordon never forgot about how she would work overtime to pay for shoes while he was playing football at both the Pop Warner and at Waimea High School.
“Shoes are probably one of the most expensive things you need to get when you play football,” Higa said. “In getting shoes for the team, he remembered how hard it is for parents, given the rising prices, to be able to afford shoes for football.”
