Medical condition sidelines Davis

Running back Mel Davis has been hospitalized the past two weeks with a non-football-related medical condition.

Davis, a senior, is not expected to play this season.

“He needs thoughts and prayers right now,” head coach Nick Rolovich said.

Rolo apologized for being late to a radio interview yesterday, saying he was visiting a player in the hospital.

Stay strong, Mel, and may you have a full recovery.

The Fertitta Football Complex … wow, very impressive … Oregon/Nike-like.

Too bad the Ellison (or Omidyar, or Case or …) Football Complex in Manoa will never happen.

Thoughts and prayers to Mel Davis for a speedy and full recovery.

    #13 Bryson
I’m surprised Kelly and the staff couldn’t get that money donated to Notre Dame…It seems to be the only reason they recruited Nicco. I don’t think I’ve seen him even on Special Teams…but hey, that might have been the only reason Chow was recruiting him as well.

    Sorry for the cynical outlook.

With all the money that’s in Vegas you would think this football sports complex would have happened awhile ago. Now if only Elon Musk would pony up some cash so UNR can have their cake and eat it too.

Poor guy, after what he had to fight to get to Hawaii.
A 4-star recruit in the eyes of God, too.
Here’s a bit of his background:

Two weeeks in the hospital is long for anybody.

  38. greenthumb September 13, 2016 6:58 pm

Healing thoughts for Mel Davis. In this era, two weeks in hospital is a serious span of time. Sending wishes that this young man will be able to build back his strength, earn his degree, and do the good works for others that are close to his heart.

  40. A-House September 13, 2016 7:33 pm

Speedy and full recovery to Mel!!!

  41. A-House September 13, 2016 7:43 pm

    coaches question:

1] special teams – any consideration for the player to take a knee if ball is caught in any part of the end zone? 98.5% chance of short gain { less than 15 yards } and /or a fumble – bad odds — take the ball on the 25 yd line

2] prevent defense on 3rd down and long ( 10 or more yards ) — why use if the D-line cannot “hurry” the QB with 4 rushers and DBs cannot contain the receivers? remember Oregon State last year? how many 1st and 10 did UH give when OSU was 3rd and 15? every time with the receiver going over the middle.
    blitz the QB!!!

  42. kev-1 September 13, 2016 8:04 pm

Wouldn’t it be fitting if UH wore the special red, white, and blue uniforms that they were provided by Under Armour for Saturday’s game vs. Arizona considering they will be holding Pearl Harbor commemoration activities?

  43. burro sabio September 13, 2016 9:26 pm

Two weeks in the hospital sounds very serious. Get well soon Mel Davis.

  44. hitmanhart September 13, 2016 9:55 pm

  45. 898warriorfan September 13, 2016 10:43 pm

Where can a fan send a get well card ???

Prayers for a complete recovery and:
    A) He’ll be able to return to school and get his degree
    B) He’ll be able to play football again
    C) If he’s able to play football again, the NCAA will grant
him a Medical Exemption for a 6th year

  46. Spokane WA Grammie September 13, 2016 10:55 pm

Coach Rolo is doing an excellent job attaining cohesiveness, inspiration, & sensitivity within his program, coaches, & team.
Am currently residing in Spokane WA & a former resident of Pauoa Valley. I’m an avid fan – win or lose. After looking over the schedule, I was so disappointed because I will only be able to view 3 games.
Is there a way that it could be live streamed or Pay Per View.
During the UTM game on ESPN 1420 page, there were many postings (Mainlanders or residents) excitingly requesting the network it was being televised or live streaming. It’s difficult listening to the game especially if it is exciting. Many of us would like to join in to support the team.
Mahalo Coach Rolo for returning to your “real” Home!

  47. akuhead2 September 14, 2016 3:12 am

Maybe I missed it, but does this mean that Melvin Davis will get to play next year?

  48. Shoko September 14, 2016 7:44 am

Have a feeling RR will probably not take a chance on losing Solomon for the season if he’s not 100% come Saturday; not against a team that is 25-point underdogs. I think we’ll see the backup, Brandon Dawkins, who looks to have happy feet, which is probably not an attribute RR likes in a quarterback when running his up-tempo, spread offense.

  49. whitey September 14, 2016 8:02 am

My best to Mel Davis on his speedy recovery.

  50. NorthShoreFan September 14, 2016 9:50 am

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!

More Healing Energy to Melvin Davis.

I’m hoping Mel will be able to complete his studies ad walk out of here with a degree. Question for coach Rolo… Will we be able to keep Mel on scholarship and allow him to complete his studies? Will we be able to keep Mel on the team?…IR, Redshirt, medical retirement etc.

  51. Old School Dave September 14, 2016 9:51 am

    Get well soon, Mr. Davis!
