Thanks again to Coach Mack for being our video guest. As I understand it, we encountered problems with “choppiness” during Mack’s segment. I guess the techs cleaned it up for the replay.

who are the projected greyshirts from this class?
2
i’m figuring one’s gotta be that hilo lineman. just hope they don’t drop the ball on any of the greyshirts like they did w/ noa…
congratulations on securing what appears to be the best recruit class in warrior history. i know it will take several years to right the ship. it looks like this year will require even more rebuilding or reloading than last year. this year we will lose another 30 seniors.
so, do you start to insert freshmen and sophmores a bit more this coming year knowing that you may take it on the chin but, are developing the experience level of the whole team necessary for the future?
Problem with grayshirts who aren’t on the team now, as I understand it, is they weren’t eligible during the fall semester. There’s a cutoff date for enrolling at UH, as well as the mandatory Clearinghouse evaluation period.
Art Laurel and Alema Tachibana were eligible and part-time students in the fall, which made it easier for them to go to fulltime status this semester and receive their scholarships.
I wonder if the video will not be choppy. Noon huh? Damn, got a lunch date today. Hope the show will be archived for later viewing.
We’re still on the 200-second delay because of the Pro Bowl contest, which, by the way, ended yesterday. The names have been submitted, and the winners are set to be announced.
top 10!
cheepono.
Good morning posters, lurkers, ST, Princess Leila, and Faye.
Why a 200 second delay? Why not 120 seconds or 77 seconds?
Good morning everyone!
I want to know what sort of urgency Mack is placing on getting the O-Line up to speed, to avoid the sack totals of last season. And what they are doing to address the personal foul issues. Seriously. Between those two issues, 3 more wins could have been had last year. ST, your thoughts? Could you kindly ask Mack about this?
I see Toma is off to ND. Good luck to him.
Everyone’s always blaming the offensive line for sacks. Tell the Quarterbacks to get rid of the ball. Tell the receivers to get open darn it.
Coach Mack, Congrats on securing a promising class of student-athletes! Are you planning on changing your recruiting strategy as far as over-offering? Do you think it had a negative effect on some kids that ended up de-commiting? I think some kids may feel that they may have a better opportunity with another school that had less commits for their respective position.
I blame the defense for the sacks. After all, it is them who do the sacking.
Coach Mack,
How soon will you fill the 2 open coaching positions? Will Brian Smith coach another area/position & hire a new OL coach? What duties will the other coach have?
There’s a lot of people to blame for the sacks but the personal fouls, now that’s a total different story…the blind man who just listened could tell that one certain olineman was getting called for a lot of stuff. PF, holdings, false starts, no need to say his number he and most others know who he is…
Top Twenny!
Top 5!
Somethings goofy with the site or my pc…anyone else notice webpage problems?
There’s a 200 hundred second delay… Now I’ve forgotten what I wanted to ask 200 seconds ago.
Will Heun be a rush end? Or an RB?
I’d like to see Steele Jantz at least get some reps as a QB for a while, and see what he can do before moving him elsewhere.
Will the team practice exclusively on the turf at Ching Complex or will they still use the grass fields too?
Coach Mack:
Now that Toma has decided to attend Notre Dame, what do you plan to do with the scholarship that was offered to him?
200 seconds is actually 3.33333333333333333 minutes for those who wanna know.
DPK – Stop asking rhetorical questions. I don’t even know what rhetorical means.
Pride: yeah, different things contribute to sacks…receivers not getting open, not running correct routes or even lack of speed where a play doesn’t develop. QB’s holding onto the ball too long, or even running backs missing a block. But if you watched any game, you know many sacks were had due to leaky blocking up front, or slowwww feet at the tackle positions. Ultimately the O-Line needs to execute better, and that’s the bottom line. My question for Mack via ST wasn’t about placing blame as much as what they are going to do to improve. Don’t get your panties in a bunch!
Will MAC make changes in off-season training–especially our OL?
Will Tony T be promoted to full-time coaching status?
Question for Coach Mack
Quoting Bobby C on 1420 he has raved and said that when it comes to recruiting integrity you and JJ are tops. Is this true?
In other words once a player has committed to another team- 1) Do you still go after them 2) Close the door entirely 3) Leave the door open, and allow the player in only if it’s on the volition of the player
Paul Johnson of Georgia Tech has set a precedence where he has pulled a scholarship offer from a player who had committed to his team yet was still visiting other programs. What are your thoughts of recruits that have committed to your program and yet were still looking elsewhere.?
T. Maka, a one time UH recruit that was scheduled to visit Hawaii, publically announced his intent of going to UCLA a few days before his scheduled trip here. In an instance like this – 1) Did he come? 2) Or did UH nix his trip knowing that it would be a futile attempt of trying to sway him away from UCLA-and basically save money and costs of having him travel here.
Thank you for stopping by for the chat. I join others in congratulating the coaches and recruits for bringing the big picture into focus.
Oxymoron, I know what you’re saying. I’m just playing.
Coach Mac:
What do you envision, not just as a program or institution, but as a community, as a state, an entire Warrior Nation, what do we need to do to not only bring a national championship to Hawaii but be a consistent national force every year?
Never settle.
Keep fighting!
Howzit Everybody,
According to Coach Mac he already has an idea on the G.A. position and a Special Teams person. He also said that he is bringing in two very experienced O-Line coaches to interveiw, so it will be a very interesting next couple of weeks. It really looks like there are going to be some changes in responsibilities come spring ball.
Sorry Pride. but I just had to laugh picturing your panties in a bunch.
It (hopefully) won’t be choppy because we’re doing it in studio.
m-homey- would that be shorts or bvds that you are picturing? Just curious…
😈
Stephen- you sound very clear on the promo video. I betcha the eBay ref caught a few off guard tho… 😆 Way to be yourself, ST!
I have a doctor’s appt. that may carry into noon. But I shall be praying for the HA server. Hopefully, the techies got what they needed to beef up the system to handle video and blog loads together. We have seen the crashes w/o the video element.
HAPPY FRIDAY!
Homey!
How come you picturing Pride in a three point stance?
Tsai- The multi-media mega figure! 🙂
Homey,
How can my questions be rhetorical?
Hi MLiz!
A-Joe – Not only picturing it but he is the center and you are the QB!
DPK – See.
I wonder if we’ll see a couple of running backs in the backfield this season on certain plays?
It was actually hard trying to come up with a hypothetically rhetorical question in response to your rhetorical question… 😆
22.
DPK- Good question
Practicing exclusively on artificial turf has a lot of drawbacks. I’ve read somewhere that players practicing daily on artificial turf are more susceptible to injuries, harder on the knees etc. than it would be on grass. Ron Lee looks forward to practicing on the Ching Field because of the lights.
A little of topic……..
Stretch……….
April 26 Sunday, bring another sandbagger to Maui and play in the Maui Junior Golf Fund Raiser.
🙂
of = off
roysan16-
Your question about Paul Johnson’s tactics is also a good one…
I hope everyone with questions regarding what it takes to become a national player and win a national championship has season tickets. I love how UH fans want to be elite but no one wants to shell out $$. People complain about $3 parking and ticket prices. UH games are a bargain compared to any other venue on the mainland. Even SJ St charges 15-20 bucks to park. Let’s get real here.
Everyone’s asking how to buy the porsche when you’re making minimum wage. I’m not saying dollars equals victories but there is a damn high correlation.
Question for Coach Mack.
If someone in the “know” told you it would be wiser to have your team practicing in the afternoon instead of the mornings would you listen? Getting the player’s body clocks more attuned to a time of the day closer to when they actually play the game-wouldn’t this make sense? Your thoughts?
Coach Mack-
Pono brings up a good point. If the football program brought in more money from ticket sales and other sources, where would you spend it? What areas of the program are the biggest victims of budget shortfalls?
*On a sidenote, I am a proud season ticket holder, and we have a group of 31 of us in the south endzone red section. Personally, I would be willing to pay over $200 for each of my season tickets. But, there are some in my group that complain about the $110 price of our tickets currently.
lol…too clever md.
Coach Mac, this year will mark 30 years as a season ticket holder and I really respect that you are a “1st class” type of coach.
My pet peeve is that unnecessary personal fouls have got to stop, these are definitely preventable.
Why not just suspend players for egregious “lolo” type personal fouls. 1st time you’re out of that game, 2nd time out + 1 game suspension. 3rd time off the team for that year. Guarantee with this system those selfish individuals will stop with this “consquence for action” plan instituted.
How about it Coach Mac?
My panties are always in a bunch. But at least they’re pink, my favorite color.
Pride:
You are a good sport!
Thanks for the mesage to Nolan R.
Can you state that in a question, Pride?
Coach Mac:
With our new load of running backs, will the offense run the ball more? Out of the JC receivers(both this years and last years recruiting classes), which one do you feel will contribute the most?
Aloha and Mahalo for all your hard work……
Coach Mack,
Will practices remain open to the public for spring ball?
Thanks,
Kevin
Pearl City, HI
roysan16-re: post 39
I was under the impression that the “FIELD” turf that was installed was closer to grass than astro turf…….isn’t astro turf the one that causes more injuries and field turf a, very similar surface to grass, more user friendly in competetive sports….just adding my two cents, although i could be wrong
Pride. knows Nolan Ryan?
might be a question more for JD, but did we ever figure out if we’re able to have a drop box at the stadium for NaKoa contributions…
Coach Mack:
Its the 100th Anniversary…
Any chance of anything “retro” happening with our jersey’s?
Looks like ST and the Princess are on their way to be like Regis and Kelly, Vanna and Pat, Sonny and Cher…
…from blog host to video host. I guess those karaoke videos paid huge dividends.
Homey. I taught him how to pitch?
Kekoa – you got mail.
So, to win the tix, do you have to be present to win?
Anyone going to the Wahine softball game this afternoon? I’m thinking about going.
Homey-
Whew! Thank God for shot gun formation!
Pride. – Good one!
A-Joe – After the otot, then you were in the shotgun formation…or more like punt formation.
Mornin’ (barely)!
oxy ~
I hope the Coach addresses the fouls that our players commit.
DPK,
I think it was Gary (UH field maintenance) who told me that the team would still be using the grass fields during the week for practices & will be using Ching field on Fridays for walk-throughs. I don’t think Coach Mac thot my suggestion that the Tsaikos could play flag football on Ching field. (Don’t want to see you guys hurt yourselves… :)) )
Hope the video is smoother than yesterday. Good to see the Princess doing her magic.
Have a great day in Hawai’i nei, erryone!
OMG — over in the Hawaii MomsLikeMe site, Esme is lamenting the fact that Tsai-ko (Jagermeister) Bombers won’t be flying at the Karaoke Call tomorrow. Can you imagine a joint Karaoke Call between Esme’s mothers and Bulla’s bombers? 😯
How can I get an invite to that one if it happens? 😉
SteveM – no mention anything about goteborg sausage, she going twist it around and call you kolohe
Aloha, everyone! I am here. I am working on a deadline, but I have TWO computers on and will be watching the show with one eyeball, working with the other. …
And, hey, no talking stink about me here! Especially now, with the show 5 minutes away! No moms! No sausages! 😆 Focus! Focus! Football, SteveM! Football! 😆
P.S. …
Really> I understand Colt is in today’s show too? If so, right on!
Aloha, Colt! *waving madly* Awww, man, one of these days I hope I will get the chance to shake your hand and thank you again for leading our team on the greatest thrill ride ever. Wishing you huge aloha and luck!
OK, I’m switching to the Tsai channel now … 😉
live chat is on
http://sports.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=thewarriorbeat
Check out ST’s shirt…. NICE!!
BTW – don’t think LIZ or Kekaula needs to be worried
Howzit? I cannot see the video because no Flash for iPhone Safari browser. 🙁
video still choppy
ST’s Tsaiko shirt … ftw!!
My video looks smooth … but it’s on the fastest computer here …
i missed who won the tickets
I think ST said that HawaiianKiko and Cheepeno won the tickets. I’m sure he’ll post it here too.
Stretch:
Good question – hope it was me!
Mrs A-House is vey unhappy with the “choppiness” of the video because ST said that it would be better since they were doing it inside a “studio”. Whatever message Coach Mack had was lost in the choppiness.
LizKauai: That’s why I went to a school computer to watch the show. I’m back on my iPod touch now. 😀
IDK about everybody else, but that was really choppy for me. Maybe it was just this UH connection.
Hawaiinkinko:
Congrats on winning the tickets, but Mrs A-House is very disappointed she didn’t win and a self professed “sore loser”.
Enjoy the game and have fun on Sunday.
and Cheeopono!
Strech,
It was really choppy on my side to.
It was really choppy for me too. I was on a high speed connection. Most of the prerecorded stuff came through fine, but the live stuff was a mess. I didn’t hear more than half of what Coach Mack said.
Jason,
I think the show is over right?
I was anxious to see how my Blackberry Storm would handle the feed.
Anyone saw Coach Mack mention if practice will be open to the public for Spring camp?
Video was choppy for me too. Pretty good show, but might need a director to cue the talents when the videos start and end. ST is getting very smooth. 🙂
By the way, what is the deal with Mack saying Cayman might be the first recruit from Punahou? What about Miah, what about the Uperesas? Those are just the real recent guys.
his first recruit maybe, not sure
Congrats All!
ST and PL- for a groundbreaking effort.
To the Advertiser for moving forward in the journalistic communication business.
To the ticket winners and all who entered to support the effort.
To Coach Mack and the Warriors for being who you are where you are!
GO WARRIORS!
Kazz: Was pau around 12:30. Roughly half-hour show, went couple minutes over.
I think there are things that need improving and better planning, but nevertheless, I’m looking forward to watching this new show on Tuesdays.
Jason or Liz or anyone who is versed in Korean fuud –
What is the difference between chige and soondubu?
The videocast (now available for replay) was a good first start! Learn and adapt and this has choke potential! I’ll be looking forward to watching this on Tuesdays in the future.
video/audio a little choppy, but I like the concept and am looking forward to seeing more in the future.
big thanks to coach mac and the tsai/wai team.
Well, congrats, Princess and Tsai-Meister.
That was fun and the video was flawless, all the way over here in Florida.
Great job, let’s keep doing that, that way we all can get to meet the whole team personally.
Coach Mack sure is a class act, I like his whole approach to recruiting, already planning for present and future seniors to go for their Masters. If I were a parent of a college kid, I would MAKE my son play for Big Mack.
Jojo- I dunno. Jason can prolly tell you.
Ok. Pau. Blunching and time to go back to work.
A hui hi ho!
Jjigae means stew. Sundubu, strictly speaking, is soft tofu. When we say sundubu, we really mean sundubu jjigae. There are various types of jjigae — gochujang jjigae and doenjang (miso) jjigae come to mind.
Thanks Liz?
Jason? I mean gim chi chige and soondubu
I can’t believe I missed the show!
anyone have a recap? or is it cached somewhere to replay?
chawan – look for Stretch’s link above.
I wonder if ST and PL have makeup and wardrobe people?
Another thing, I think ST and PL should be mic’d. Sometimes I couldn’t make out what was being said.
I see TCU already got a commit for 2010 from an OT, so I guess coach Mac has got the right idea. You go coach.
I’d like to give a special thanks to ST b/c without him… winning the tickets would never have been possible… also a big mahalo goes out to the honolulu advertiser and all the tsaiko’s of the WB.
Faafetai Lava. cheepono out.
Congrats to cheepono and HawaiianKiko!
Way to go, Cheepono and HawaiianKiko!
Any scoops on the 2010 recruits or silent commits?
Wahine volleyball just got a commitment from 5′ 9 setter from southern California, Rainette “Mita” Uiato.
Uiato is a 2010 recruit. Replacing Stephanie Brandt.
expat:
I too was surprised when Coach Mack said his “first recruit” from Punahou knowing that Miah red srited last year and will be competing for playing time in Spring ball.
But, no worries as there will be many more from Punahou in the future if Coach Mack keeps refining his recruiting process.
Kimo decomitted because he had a chance to play TE and UH does not use a TE.
I was disappointed that Wade K went to Oregon, but he had his reasons and hopefully Coach Mack left the door open should he decide to return.
I thought I saw something about a 2010 scholarship offer to the OT at Waialua – correct me if I’m wrong.
Thanks for the scoops Wahinefan!
Uhh… Just woke up… Still chilly in Seoul. I missed the show!!!???
Speaking of panties; did you know the word panty is uni-sex here in Korea? Koreans use it for both men’s and women’s underwear.
Pride, you don’t have to get them in a bunch. One at a time at the Dongdaemun market in East Seoul is just as cheap! Haha!
A-House – No need correct you. Now if UH can get that Punahou DL for 2010…
some prayer request……
spoke with hawaiianbod’s mother earlier today. brother is in the hospital with a severe infection of one his arms. unsure how he got it or where he got it from.
he should be fine. he was mainly concerned that he would miss the karaoke kall tomw.
Brother “Bod”,
Take care we all wish nothing but the best in a speedy recovery for you!
Prayers for hawaiianbod!
I embeded the HISTORIC video replay on my blog too.
HiHO!
What a Tsaiko, there he is, in the hospital and he is concerned about the KK.
Get well H-bod! See you at Spring ball.
Take care Hawaiianbod! Don’t worry, If you can’t make it tomorrow, we have another in a couple weeks 😉
BIG KARAOKE CALL
Saturday, February 7, 2009
7:30 PM – 12:30 AM
Krazy Karaoke (1308 Young Street)
A few Karaoke Call reminders before some of us leave our computers for the weekend…
1. Per KK’s policy, we may enter the room (Green Room) as early as 7:15 PM. We must likewise exit around 12:15 AM.
2. Please reserve the front section of seating and tables nearest the door for Esme’s MomsLikeMe group. This is so we can all greet them easily, they can make a fast getaway, and/or easier to get to the dance floor 😐
3. d1shima will do the initial input of karaoke songs to minimize duplicates and even distribution. Paper & pen for requests will be provided.
4. Did I mention it is a semi-dinner potluck…? 🙄
Prayers out to H-bod’s bro ~ get well soon.
Mei Ling – It’s H-Bod. The “brother” in al’s post is a term of endearment. We are all “brothers”…well “sisters” too.
SteveM – Looks like we’ll be having sushi and dessert!
Karaoke Call suggested attire: “Tsai-ko Black” and/or name tags.
Okay, just so I can put SteveM to work, koakane is bringing gau gee and I am bringing gau gee.
Ummmmm, It may be sore wearing just a name tag.
I watched the “re-play” of TWB on the Advertiser.com and it was a great job. Leila looked as lovely as ever and St looked like ST.
The techies cleared up the picture but the miking as uneven.
Might I suggest that Leila and ST be given mikes as the segment with Coach Mc showed low volume with the two and good volume for Coach Mac.
But great job and congratulations to all.
homey — can wear a Goteborg sausage too? That’s so the moms you’ve been inciting can recognize you… 😆
Nah, wear your Tsai-ko shirt–it has your name on both sides for a reason. 😉
A-House knows better now (after I grabbed him in a MMA headlock) that he is NEVER to post anything on the blog without my knowledge or prior approval when he uses my name. On his behalf, I am apologizing to Cheepono and HawaiianKiko for his insinuating that I am a poor sport about not winning the tickets. He was desperate to post something and resorted to nonsense that named me. So…
Cheepono and HawaiianKiko –
My sincerest congratulations on winning the Pro Bowl tickets! Enjoy the game which promises to be action-packed and played under ideal playing conditions in our beautiful paradise.
and…
ST –
As choppy as the live interview video was, it still was very enjoyable to gaze upon lovely Leila, two of the most good-looking studs, Coach Mack and yourself. If anybody thinks I’m kissing up to you, ST, folks…it doesn’t work and has never worked in the past. ST is THE most honorable and reputable professional in the business and one of my favorite neighbors.
Enjoy a great Pro Bowl weekend, everybody!!!
Howzit Mrs A-house!! How’s things!! Set your hubby straight! 😆
HawaiianBod –
So sorry to hear you were hospitalized. Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery. Tsaikos will always keep a seat for you at any of the functions. Take your time…recover well.
So A-House, did the wifey actually throw a tantrum?
hi Mrs A-House,
i believe you. matter how much Mr. A-House runs in the sands of Ala Moana beach, when you get the MMA headlock on its tap tap tap.
Hbod . . .
Get well soon! And, stop worrying your Mom.
Mr. A-House . . .
Get well soon after what sounds like a brutal headlock by the Mrs. Geez. Note to self: do not, under any circumstances, get Mrs. A-House upset. I wonder if like mother, like daughter applies? Ugh. I think I would rather not find out first hand. Or is that first back-hand. HA!
Princes . . .
Looking good! As usual.
Mr. Tsai . . .
Uhhhhh, yeah. You looked good, too.
Mack . . .
Always a classy guy!
Homey . . .
Just depends where you wear your name tag.
g-nalo – headlock seems too WWE, I think she got him in a triangle and put him to sleep.
wafan – I did say sore.
Oops!
A thousand apoligies Princess. I intend to neither change your gender nor number.
Princes = Princess
Dang. Must be Friday.
apoligies = apologies
Okay, I will stop now. Shucks.
Watching the video, or parts of it, little by little, I noticed Coach Mack conveys a happy smile. This is very noticeable. I hope behind that smile things are going well. Listening to the exuberance in his voice one senses everything is fine.
Points he touched on. And goals that he foresees in the future is that he wants at least half his starters working on their masters in their last year. This is huge. A very good precedence to start.
He mentioned that he made the rounds to each recruits homes. And let on that the families took good care of him as he was glancing down at his tummy. Fostering a bond with the families was key. But again think how much of selling point it is to the recruits and parents when the head coach wants you not only graduate, but he wants you to graduate above everyone else that aspires in getting their bachelors-he wants the recruit to have the sweeter plum, a masters degree. This is huge.
On the same thought he mentioned how happy he was with Tony T. And what finer example to show to the recruits than to say that Tony’s been there, done that. For Tony can proudly say that all his hard work has paid off in the class room-with his 2 master degrees. This is huge. And Tony can be captivating when expressing to the recruits and future student athletes aspiring to higher education.
One question dealt with which recruit did he have to work hard on in convincing him to stay. And that was Chad L. And the beaming smile was omnipresent when he talked about the recruits, especially when he was glad to land Chad and the boys from Kahuku. And the rest of the kids from Hawaii and the mainland.
After listening to Coach Mack he alluded more so the character of the recruits saying that was important of which kids he wanted in his program.
This is only the first full year of recruiting, so to speak, compared to last years three weeks sprint of trying to land recruits. And as other fans have been happily impressed with the direction the program is taking…I wholeheartedly agree, too.
Best wishes and get well quickly to Hawaiianbod.
Homey,
A-house would have gotten away with some help of some vasoline.
Homey,
A-house would have gotten away with some help of some vasoline.
Tough thing to hear on Aloha Friday….
Good luck to those affected at Brand X

Good thoughts for Hawaiianbod.
Congrats to Cheepono and HawaiianKiko.
Busy day….
I go catch up on some reading and bbl… 😉
Wow, where did everyone go?
TOM,
LMAO 😆
SteveM you might want to post the cost per person for the KK, who will be collecting the money to repay Stretch for the downpayment etc, BYOB or whatever to drink and pupus….
Website Directory – Hawaii
Website links category Hawaii
Where is everyone? Getting ready for the KK tomorrow night?
I saw Ferd in the news. Look like they had a union meeting about pay cuts.
I missed Mack???? Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!
Gonefunnit………..
Ralph – Look at SteveM’s site for the info. We know the routine already. Plus it’s sold out and only special guests will be allowed in.
Homey I know of SteveM site but was posting a reminder to SteveM that those who don’t frequent the blog or read his website might not know of the charges, etc….
off topic Captain of the Port Royal is in deep kim chee…grounding a cruiser next to the reef runway….kind of close to shore for a big ship…
If they don’t frequent the blog then they won’t see it.
Ralph:
My buddy is on a ship that is right next to the Royal..He says it is buried in the reef on both sides..I went up on top of the mountain and looked down at it and it is real close in the light green water..ooopppps…this might get very interesting..
curveball – When you reached the top of the mountain did the guy up there tell you that cars cost less at cutter?
🙂

chawan aren’t you at the wbb game….gender equity- you and Kazz got to bea there to show your support for both genders in bb..take a pilllow with you, it is going to feel like a long night watching the bouncing ball.
Well if they can’t read then they don’t surf the internet. Probably just watch TV and sing songs thinking they are saying the right words. 😆
wow, homey is online late.
a friday night at home for homey…
ralph,
taking a break. tomorrow is gonna be a long night, with the basketball game and then karaoke.
can’t handle 4 straight days of games anymore.
Port Royal captain is headed for early retirement. Navy has some seagoing tugs and salvage ships with powerful engines. They may have to send a couple. The reef must be taking a beat.

BIG KARAOKE CALL
Saturday, February 7, 2009
7:30 PM – 12:30 AM
Krazy Karaoke (1308 Young Street)
A few Karaoke Call reminders…
1. Per KK’s policy, we may enter the room (Green Room) as early as 7:15 PM. We must likewise exit around 12:15 AM.
2. Please reserve the front section of seating and tables nearest the door for Esme’s MomsLikeMe group.
3. d1shima will do the initial input of karaoke songs to minimize duplicates and even distribution. Paper & pen for requests will be provided.
4. Did I mention it is a semi-dinner potluck…? 🙄
5. Suggested attire for Tsai-kos: “Tsai-ko black” and/or Tsai-ko name tags (Goteborg sausages optional).
6. Please pay Stretch at the door. $15 per person.
and homey isn’t the one wearing the purple muumuu last spring
a New Zealander and an East European plays on the wbb and I don’t recall any problems for them to enroll at UH or with the NCAA clearinghouse…so the problem for the fb Aussie is his core classes not being relevant to colllege prep courses….
lots of turnovers…wahines throwing the ball away, san jose walking or double dribble…..imagine the amount of monies spent on scholarship on both teams and their level of play is definitely not D1
Mr. A-House,
Just checked the team website. It says that Miah and Uperesa are 2007 grads, so it sounds like they were JJ recruits.
Those of you watching the wahine bb game might have taken note that E-Bolla stood and actually ‘acted’ like the coach for the first 15 min of the 1st half!
I guess he read my critique about the players coaching themselves while he sat thinking about his 401k. I won’t mention the score with 3:45 left in the half–I don’t want to be the reason a personal foul is called on Sensei Al for making a slashing motion at his throat…he wouldn’t believe it anyway…heheheh!
Kekoa:
Why don’t you take POPS out there he will have that boat off the reef in no time..
yeah don’t tell Al the score to the wbb, we want him to watch all 40 minutes of it

Karaoke Call suggested attire: “Tsai-ko Black” and/or name tags.
two things come to mind
one, karaoke kall has turned into a “bowling league” fashion event.
two, robert was gonna wear his hot pink shirt and pride. would be following him around all night.
karaoke kall is sold out….
dang. i was just thinking of making my first kk.
Curveball ~ Before they built that reef runway, and neighboring Hickam Harbor, that area was great for spear fishing. Schools of sizeable mullet were ranging that area within easy ‘trow net’ range too.
You made me flash on Pops helping a friend bring his sunken cabin cruiser up. He secured the inside of the cabin with a 3 man life raft. Once inflated it popped the bow straight up. Then using 2 empty 55 gallon drums filled with air as floaters, he was able to level the boat and tow it in for repairs.
Pops suggested they use a 20 man life raft for the missle cruiser…heheh!
el guapo:
I guess I mis-heard Coach Mack if he said “MY” first recruit out of Punahou and that would be Cayman.
I hope this starts the “pipeline” to Punahou as their team is really an “all Oahu” team with players from all over the island. Just imagine if Teo and Toma had to play for Kahuku as all public schools are basically restricted by boundaries.
Same can be said of any “private school”.
Kekoa:
This is only the 2nd game I saw Bolla standing up and “coaching” his players.
With Mrs Bolla as an assistant, it appears that Chasity is in the “background” rather than in the players faces. Too bad cause I really believe that she would make a hellva good head coach.
Col A House, you missed the part about coach mc’s daughter is also at punahou and she keeps an eye out for future players for her dad. good kid!!!!!
somwhere lost in the e bolla case is how the hell is his wife the asst coach????
Tuioti’s did at Punahou, now I find out coach Mac kid is at Punahou….I had reason to believe there is a waiting list to get into Punahou, tough to get in, very selective and limited spaces with lots of applicants. Rock stars, just march to the head of the line….
A-House ~ Seemed like he was talking story with Todd Apo the ref, instead of ‘coaching.’
remember when riley tried to hire his brother and was denied. somehow the board of regeants has fallen flat on its face because this is a gross case of nepotism. but then, i always forget that the ass ad, mkk, is an attorney, but a crappy one.
kekoa…..no forget the abundance of clams and ogo in that very same area. also was known for choke papio and o’io.
e bolla’s wife applied, the committee narrowed the selection to 3 and she was picked…Bolla was excused from the process. can’t remember who sat on the selection committee, maybe the HA person covering wbb can enlighten us…who got stuck covering the wbb, is it mike….
ralph, send your kids to roosevelt or mckinley. same education, but less money. naahhhh, only joking.
ralph, another suggestion, use al’s name for reference to get into punahou. might work.
kekoa, how is the queen doing???
psssst, Al, if your shirt doesn’t fit anymore, just say so and we’ll make you another later this year…
Al is a McKinley grad…..he would be a good reference for fuud but I don’t want to get as fat as him and fine dining is not an option for me…I live the simple life…
Ralph – I think Coach Mack’s grandson (and maybe his granddaughter) attend Mid-Pac. I saw Coach talking to his grandson, who was wearing a bb uniform, a couple of weeks ago. BTW, Coach Trap’s sons also attend Mid-Pac and Bob Coolen’s son attended Mid-Pac last year, but I hear he’s now attending Punyhou, which actually makes more sense, since Nanci Coolen teaches PE at Punyhou.
good thought whitey, how is Diana doing these days?
if a parent is on staff at Punahou, the kid gets a waiver-freebie…
since jm2375 mentioned coach trap, i was just thinking how will uh baseball do this year. i used to follow them quite religiously till they let coach nomura go, then it all fell apart. hard to generate enthusiasm since then.
Ralph – I think it’s only the first kid. Subsequent kids get a discount, but not that much.
will there ever be another tats playing for uh????
702WarriorNation,
I hope that you had a great birthday celebration!
I’m sorry that I didn’t respond earlier to you–the papers and other work *really* kept me busy! Plus, all this negotiation and contract delays was putting a lot of pressure on me and I think my posting was getting grumpy. Today was so busy that I missed the video chat and haven’t even seen it yet! I guess I’ll see it tomorrow…
or will uh ever go to the college world series again?????
Al,
I think you were right and I was wrong on McKay…I thought I remembered his situation, but it might have been another player (maybe the recruit roysan16 mentioned in his post) that had committed shortly before his scheduled visit to UH. I remember that being discussed here or on SH.
This paper ranked the impact that the players had with the Dolphins.
sheeesh, thinking like this reminds me of when i made sure i watched laurel and hardy, buster keaton, eddie cantor, three stooges, the little rascals, and red skelton. not to mention lucky luck, capt honolulu
Bill Parcells sure has a great contract situation–he’ll get his full pay even if he quits and takes another job with a competitor.
Congratulations, between everyone, all were answered.

Now do, we attribute “Three Times a Lady” to Jason as LizKauai suggested?
and making the “goggle” signal with your hands by capt honolulu is not easy
break time and maybe sleep time.
Texas Tech sure recruited well this year (getting an Oklahoma commit to switch shortly before NLI day topped off their class nicely) despite the messy contract situation with Mike Leach. The latest contract stipulations makes it seem like Texas Tech’s AD doesn’t want Leach to accept the contract extension and to go away instead.

DARPA is funding a program to create sustainable autonomous robots–no batteries needed and no human control. Terminator flashback…especially disturbing to think that the robots can fuel themselves on dried human flesh. So, these armed autonomous roots can live off of human bodies!

Story about a 7-year-old golfing prodigy…3 years ago (when he was 4!) his family moved from Chicago to Las Vegas so he could golf year-around (just about every day). His parents have spent over $20k on lessons for him and he’s just in the first grade!

Three Times a Lady, eh … 😀
Speaking of which, I hope Rich2176 and Margo are doing well.
Well you just can’t beat dropping off your youngest child at the airport for a flt to PDX and coming back to see a report about a plane limping in on one engine from Hawaii the night before. 😯
It was nice to get that text earlier tonight letting us know he got in without a problem 🙄
Whitey ~ Clean out your cobwebs and check your email.
D-1 ~ You are blessed my friend!
ralph….i am on a diet.
tonight, we met friends at pf chang’s. half price pupu’s, three buck stella’s on tap, two buck discount on wine, and great company.
garret,
eh no worry. we all make mistakes.
yah, even monkey’s fall out of trees.
(just joking)
so tonight number two goes to a place where nfl pro bowlers will hang.
al – you didn’t want to join no 2 at rock za & femme nu??
Saw this only just now and … bwaaaaaa hahahahahaha! xD
Anyway, I’m just whooshing in and back out. Gotta get all my housework and office work done now so that I can get a pass to go out tomorrow night. 😉 I’m so looking forward to seeing the Tsaikos! It’s been ages!
P.S. Has anyone extended an invite to cb? 😉
actually they said i was too old to follow them.
Ralph: At Punahou, the first child of a faculty member gets in free – assuming the child meets the all requirements for admission; second child is 50% discount and after that, good luck!
Al & Big Wave ~
Do you recall the late 50’s out at Makaha when the Army would park a couple of huge searchlights on the beach? It allowed night surfing to become a really cool spectator event. All my heroes back then like Rabbit Kekai & Buffalo K. were the Kings of surfing. Lots of tandem teams put on quite a show in the spotlight. They did actually have a speaker system set up and would announce the top 3 of the night. I believe that their only reward was bragging rights.
In the day time I’d be out there with my dinky little paipo board. It was handmade in Mr. Bowman’s wood shop class at KS prep school. I was like a little mosquito out there pestering the big board guys by sliding in on the eastern fringe of the wave as they normally broke in that direction.
Pops was usually hanging around the reefs further to the east where the waters were usually calm…poking fish for our lunch.
Esme’s coming! Hooooowheee! Now the place will really be rockin!’ May I place my request now for a song that you never got to sing at the Blog Bash?…. FIRE!
If you want, I’ll even bring a bass guitar so we can have that bass riff grinding out over a seperate speaker! More noise toys to crank up the musica!! Hola!
i heard about the night lights….but that was too far to travel in those days. we fished a lot with the family all along the waianae coast. after the second break in of our vehicle we stopped going.
however, i did catch a wave or two at the infamous makaha beach. my uncle was one of those beachboys back in the day with all those historical figures of surf.
Al it wasn’t a breakin, kekoa was hungry and thought you had some extra fish and dem days the boys from the ceded lands neva use door knobs to get in anywhere..
Everything past Waipahu was considered ‘country’ including Waipahu! Kapolei was all cane field. Folks in the city rarely came out there. People really did use the coconut wireless to give surf reports…get to the nearest rotary black clunker and dial your frenz about the surf heights.
Ralph ~ Never went hungry when you were in or near the ocean. Never understood break-ins. Never had anything valuable enuff to steal. Never say never…
…and Ralph, thanks for asking about Diana. Pain is getting more spasmatic at times, and that really kicks it up to scream level 10.
She’s looking forward to breaking out of the cabin fever mode and go to the KK and take her mind off of this stuff, and have some fun with good friends.
