“Lone Survivor”
Marcus Luttrell, the Navy SEAL whose story is portrayed in the book and movie “Lone Survivor,” met UH coach Norm Chow last week. After a nice conversation, Luttrell agreed to speak to the Warriors in November.
Luttrell’s story is inspiring.

Good morning everyone!
Inspiring indeed!
A Warrior in every sense!
Go Warriors!
A long time ago I bookmarked the link
hawaiiwarriorworld.com/warrior-beat
that would take me to ST’s blog.
It worked fine until a few days ago – now to see today’s post got to scroll to bottom of yesterday’s post and click on ST’s link to today’s blog.
Humbug.
How come?
Every year a team of folks either leave the team or transfer–there is not some bigger story lying in wait. Since Jesus played JV football at Mt. Jerusalem High, people have been transferring.
They may have seen they were going to get a lack of playing time, or the position being stacked for the next 3-4 years, or just don’t like sunshine 300+ days a year, but it happens every year, to every team.
I think that is why so few posts now.

Why bloggers are not posting? There’s little excitement being generated about the football team. The only things we hear/read constantly are the financial crisis of UH Athletics and poor football season ticket sales. And of course there’s the NCAA report of violations by the basketball team. All negative stuff. We’re not even getting feedback on last minute recruits or no recruits to fill out the depth-chart on the O and D-Lines. Wait, a two-deep depth chart has not been released. It’s all covered in grey fog. Yet, I feel there’s a lot to be excited and positive about the upcoming season. The defense looks solid with the returning players. Lots of experience on the D-side and lots of questions on the O-side of the ball, but no one is talking or writing about the upcoming season. It should be exciting. How many times can you play the current reigning No. 1 on their home turf? We can’t win, but it will be interesting to see just how well or badly the team plays. The opening Colorado game should tell a lot of what to reasonably expect. But without feedback from UH Athletics, the fans have nothing to chew on.
And, is Chow challenged? I was going to say color blind, but some people might take offense. I mean pink shirt with a baby-blue tie. Maybe he’s at a baby shower? He became a grandpa recently, right? Oh yeah, my son is color blind. We always chuckle when he comes up with some really loud colors in selecting cars. He’s learned to ask. And we always lie to him. “Yeah, looks good. The brown you chose is nice (but it’s really a loud aqua).”
Yes H- man… n don’t 4 – get the lies about that ‘so called scrimmage game’ at the stadium…that is the pits… worser then deflategate he he he…punahou english he he he
What’s the difference between an oral thermometer and a rectal thermometer?
The taste.
Where do you find a no legged dog?
Right where you left him.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend, but she left me before we met.
A man and his wife were awakened at 3:00 am by a loud
Pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door
Where a drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is
Asking for a push.
Not a chance,’ says the husband, ‘it is 3:00 in the
Morning!’ He slams the door and returns to bed.
Who was that?’ asked his wife.
‘Just some drunk guy asking for a push,’ he answers.
‘Did you help him?’ she asks.
‘No, I did not, it is 3:00 in the morning and it is pouring rain
Out there!’
‘Well, you have a short memory,’ says his wife. ‘Can’t you remember about three months ago when we broke down, and those two guys helped us? I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself!’
The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into
The pounding rain.
He calls out into the dark, ‘Hello, are you still there?’
‘Yes,’ comes back the answer.
‘Do you still need a push?’ calls out the husband.
‘Yes, please!’ comes the reply from the dark.
‘Where are you?’ asks the husband.
‘Over here on the swing,’ replied the drunk.

Reminds me of the late night shenanigans Rasu Begasu (RIP) used to post.
Don’t worry, they’re not going to pay anyone to speak.
Not 100 K, not 100 dollars.
Nutmegger:
So, true about finding the blog.
I gave up the other day and just posted a link on Twitter.
Not sure why some items don’t appear. Or some appear and then disappear.
Hey, I’m just a peon.
Riggins and Patterson were talented young men from good Southern California schools– but they were unproven and inexperienced. More troubling would be the loss of Blake Muir, our best offensive lineman in 2012– and maybe the best in many, many years who started every game as a freshman but transferred to start at Baylor. Dick Tomey said that was a huge loss of possibly the most talented player on the team. We also lost Ben Dew, like Muir, a player from down under, expected to start on the oline in 2013 he left to start at Houston. We suffered from those transfers as we did with the transfer of Trevor Davis who started for CAL and in a PAC 12 game scored back to back TD’s on returns, and two TD’s off passes– we could have used him on our receiver core. All three guys were outstanding in attitude and work ethic. Those things happen but they kill a team like ours.
Imagined conversation between Lebron James and Coach Phil Handy.
Phil: Good morning, Lebron.
Lebron: Who are you?
Kolten Wong finally produced from the leadoff spot.
Now he is a legitimate All-Star contender.
I think he was something like 1-15 before today’s breakout game.
I remember UH was playing a football game against Utah. The night before, the Golden State Warriors and Utah Jazz were playing an exhibition game. A bunch of reporters attended the hoops game. After it ended, we headed into the locker room. The PR guy was like: “No, no, we’re limiting how many people can talk to Joe Smith,” who was the No. 1 pick that year. We were like, Who cares about Joe Smith. We want to talk Phil Handy. Handy was surrounded by Hawaii reporters.
Thank you Mr Lock. I needed that…
site s essd up. ctpe ormaly.otersits k nyhs bo ies.
I can’t wait to hear his story. He played for the Navy Midshipmens. Good evening!
Napoleon Hill: THERE ARE NO LIMITATIONS TO THE MIND, EXCEPT THOSE WE ACKNOWLEDGE.
thanks ST 4 INFO !! to bad chow was more of a people person !! would help out a lot !! no hipe with him as da coach !!
Boola, regarding transfers. You are so right. People leave for various reasons. Remember way back when I know we had like 110 plus or so at training camp, the depth charts were 4 and 5 deep at all positions with some guys not even on the board. Guys would leave in the middle of the night at training camp never to be seen again. Guys would just up and quit in mid season. The departure of one Casey Ortiz was probably the most infamous one. It only matters who stays—
Maddog, not sure if you overlapped, but my HS coach was Tommy Ronquillio– crazy crazy bruudha- who I was at once terrified of, and secretly wanted to be…
Ben Clarke, IMHO, has been the best offensive lineman for the past 3 seasons for UH (started as a true freshman in 2012). Very steady and dependable player.
Clark and Miur:
why did they leave and what can be done to correct this?
yes, players leave for whatever, but dig deeper and find out why and correct, if can!
otherwise, where will the improvement(s) be???
one General Order for US Army soldiers is to follow all “lawful orders” from a superior.
and this was the crux of Lt Calley’s order in the Mi Lai massacre in Viet Nam – several members of the platoon testified that all they were doing was following orders – it was a tough call as the VC used women and children to use bombs to kill US service members such as explosives in bicycle handle bars or under bags of food
saw Lone Survivor at Windward Mall – incredible story!
anyone else watching to see if UH will leave Eurpoa with commitments such as the 16 year old who gave UH a bad time receiving her serves?
it’s been a LONG time since Shoji recruited gals from Europe.
congrats to the Iceman! he who giveth me my lame nickname. glad to see he is doing well!
Hurry on down to Ross Store at Ward. They have couple of classic “Norm Chow – Chasing Championships” UH logo tee shirts for $8 with 10% discount on senior Tuesdays. Sure to be a collectors item – think I’ll buy one and wear it to season opener.
Gorgeous day. Good morning everybody.
Go Bows!
