It’s $howtime for the Warriors

The Warriors are officially on Hawaii Bowl time.

That means:

> UH’s fall meal plan ran through brunch yesterday. After that, the Warriors became eligible for per diem. The daily allowance is $75, minus the cost of meals provided by the bowl or school.

> Each Warrior will be receiving up to $925 in gifts — $375 from the school and $550 from the Hawaii Bowl.

> Eleven staff members — three coordinators, six position coaches, director of recruiting/retention Jason Cvercko, and director of football operations Lois Manin — will receive a bowl bonus. The bonus formula is this: Add the total of their one month’s salary, then distribute the money evenly. It’s a merry Christmas for the highest-paid staff member, a merrier one for the lowest paid. The bonuses are well deserved. They had to prepare the regulars for the bowl game, train the redshirts and developing players separately, and recruit.

Good info on the moolah !

The national exposure is good and should help recruiting. San Diego State and New Mexico’s wins in the Las Vegas and New Mexico Bowls, respectively, gave the Mountain West Conference a big boost to start the bowl season. It’s exciting for the team, fans and especially the seniors. Looking forward to the game. Go Warriors !!!

MTSU hits the island tomorrow. Looking for a great week of coverage leading up to the game. Warriors should be mostly healed and healthy or at least in pretty good shape. Can’t wait for Sat-hoping for some good recruiting news prior to the W/E. GoWarriors!!!!

    whoa, Maddog50:

your place mucho cold today according to the weather forecast — high of 6 and low of -12

no recruit visits this weekend because of graduation yesterday? or, did some sneak in and leave? hopefully, with a verbal commitment to UH

recall several year ago, UH brought in a DL guy, but he arrived near 400#s and never offered a scholarship

OR, will UH load up this coming week? a victory or playing a good game may well tip a recruit into UH’s favor — especially, for the “local” boys who can drive to Aloha Stadium.

and, a belated shout out to Scott Chan, manager Aloha Stadium, for making the last 2 games memorable while going in our gate — 100% of the ushers and some of the security people seemed to be more welcoming and pleasant — previously, I complained about security actually making “body searches” which is taboo!!!

Showtime, basketball fans, Daniel Fotu came to the islands last week and played yesterday in the 2nd and 4th quarters for Kahuku in their upset win over Mt. Vernon ( N.Y.), 60-54. 3 FG’s, 6 for 6 FT’s, 12 pts. UH recruit Avea had 10 rebounds, coach Brandyn Akana’s nephew, point guard Jessiya Villa, 27 points.

Boy!. The teams that Mountain West Conference just play this two bowl were really easy game!. New Mexico was favorite! Because San Antonio is not a great football team. San Diego State had to win the Las Vegas Bowl. If not they’re aren’t a great football team like people said. One Houston had a new head coach just one week before bowl game. Two he had no asst. coaches! They were all grad assistant staff!. Now! Let see what University of Hawaii football can do in Hawaii Bowl? . They must stop the run and passing game from Middle Tennessee!. If not Hawaii will lost by 30 point. So good luck Warriors! I don’t care if you lose or win!. Just remember you all? You were pick to finish last in your division and no bowl game!. And sports news magazine said that University of Hawaii football program don’t have great players on their rosters. That is why their aren’t a great football program. They all can eat their words now!. Even the NCAA too!.

Even their own State were they come from they aren’t the same!. I it’s called Ohana in Hawaii!. They is no were else is the world!

SF 6-7 Justice Sueing, Jr has offer from UH. But also has offers from Utah, St Mary’s and Montana. Playing for Mater Dei, but is from Hawaii and attended Maryknoll. 3.8 GPA, per hoop seen article.

A-House, it’s the recruiting dead period, December 12, 2016, through January 11, 2017. where coaches may only write and telephone student-athletes or their parents.

  15. NotNasti December 18, 2016 1:12 pm

H-Man is correct. Right now is a recruiting dead period, which was reported by ST on this blog a little while ago.

Awesome! Congrats to the Warriors and coaches! Nice to see them getting their rewards for doing such a good job this season. Great to have that “Bows-in a Bowl” atmosphere again. It’s been too long!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  18. Paniolo December 18, 2016 2:58 pm

Because of late fumbles that took a potential wins over UNLV and New Mexico Lobos, games played at Aloha Stadium this year, our Warriors would have ended the with a 8 wins and 5 losses.
With that said, we should have a lot better Warrior team next year and another return to the Hawaii bowl in 2017. The 2017 will be a lot better with only one powerhouse on the schedule – road game in LA against UCLA.

  19. 808 December 18, 2016 3:57 pm

I think Hawaii needs to also look out for the BYU game next year. In 2012, they lost by a score of 47 – 0 to BYU. I think this time around it will be more competitive.

The out of conference schedule for 2017 doesn’t look as daunting as last season and this season.

Nice to see Rainbow Warriors getting rewarded for all their hard work.

    Time to throw some strikes!

Recently signed DL Jamie Tago has been named a first-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American. I believe the NJCAA includes the JCs outside of California JC association.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here.
    Without the snow, tho.
Should make mid America recruits drool.
    🙂
    Lucky we live Hawaii.
