It’s go time

The Rainbow Warriors depart this afternoon for Los Angeles on the first leg of a two-game, 10-day road trip. They will stay overnight in L.A., then tomorrow travel by charter flight to Ogden and then by buses to Logan.

Joey Iosefa is one of five running backs on the 64-player travel roster. Samson Anguay, who moved from slotback, counts as part of the running back group. The others are Diocomey Saint Juste, Steven Lakalaka and Marcus Langkilde.

There will be four tight ends on the trip, but none named Jordan Pu‘u-Robinson. He continues to recover from an MCL injury.

There will be nine offensive linemen. The two additions are tackle Leo Koloamatangi and center Brenden Urban.

Quarterbacks Sean Schroeder, Taylor Graham, Ikaika Woolsey and Jeremy Higgins are on the list.

Kickoff returner Bubba Poueu-Luna, who suffered a hamstring injury last week, will not travel.

Ceejay Santos replaces Joe Uglietto as the backup kicker.

Sure the four-corner point — Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona — gets all the pub. But let’s not forget that Utah and Nevada are bordering states, too.
    Wendover, baby!

  28. Bowwar October 31, 2013 12:15 pm

The blog is kinda barren today…I guess everyone has said enough about the FB team, Chow, and the dismal season…Sad…

    Looking forward to Men’s BB.

  29. papajoe2 October 31, 2013 12:41 pm

Men’s BB is like all UH sports. In the preseason, we get psyched and think that they will do well, but I personally, don’t think we will be as good as a lot of us fans think. We don’t have a true center. I love the way the returnees play, especially Fotu and Standhardinger, but if anyone of the big men gets into foul trouble or injured, then what? I’m hoping for the best for them, but I think the prediction of 6th in the Big West is about right. Didn’t most of us think that the football team was going to be better than they are now, with some actually saying 8&4 or better, although most publications predicted UH last? Lets wait and see and enjoy UH sports for what it is.

  30. Slugger October 31, 2013 12:42 pm

    Happy Halloween!

Logan, UT is a 10 hour drive for me. Wish I had the time to go.

It’s not that cold yet. Hope the future forecast for Annapolis holds; looks sunny & clear.

    Good luck, team.

    GO WARRIORS!

  31. NotNasti October 31, 2013 12:54 pm

Just got my “Challenge Them” t-shirt. Mahalo (Jesse)James for the donation. Very talented. Loving the “Bonafide Tsaiko” on the front of the shirt. And a beeg mahalo to ST for dropping it off. Now I’m not anonymous to you (you know where I work and what I look like). In the words of the late”Crazy Mary” (you old-timer UH baseball fans should know who I’m talking about), “Hawaii gonna win! Hawaii gonna Win!”

  32. NotNasti October 31, 2013 1:01 pm

    29. Bowwar: Maybe everybody is following the Marriage Equality hearing today. Tsaikos? Not. World Series hangover? Maybe. Oh-and-seven blues? Ohhhhhhh yeahhhhhhh.

  33. Whats up October 31, 2013 1:29 pm

No joke, Utah State is still a really good team with or without Chuckie Keyton. I think this game will be ugly for Hawaii and a blow out is coming at Logan, Utah. Navy is also a good team and I expect another blow loss for Hawaii at Annapolis too. I’m sorry but the next 2 weeks are going to be painful for us the Hawaii Football faithful, I just can’t see Hawaii pulling off the upset against Utah State and Navy on the road.

    Utah State 52
    Hawaii 27

  34. PolyMom October 31, 2013 1:30 pm

Good luck on the road Warriors! Let’s take care of business at the office on Saturday!

  35. Maddog50 October 31, 2013 1:37 pm

Just make something happen when your in there and get a win. Go Warriors!!!!

  36. Andrew October 31, 2013 2:06 pm

    34.

I agree Utah State is still a good team, but I think the score will be much closer than that. At most I see Utah State winning by 14.

  37. LizKauai (mbp) October 31, 2013 3:27 pm

    Go, Rainbow Warriors!!!

  38. gobows October 31, 2013 4:55 pm

Agree with the usu outcome…navy is not a good team, but owen nine here we come.

  39. oneseason October 31, 2013 6:12 pm

On this night of Halloween, nothing scares me more than the consistency of the UH offensive play calling ….

In the Colorado State game, UH ran 29 times out of 86 offensive plays. They averaged 1.1 net yards per rushing attempt (32 net yards) compared to 6.8 net yards per passing attempt (386 net yards). So about one third of the offensive plays resulted in negligible gain.

As we enter game 8 of season 2, running plays have consistently failed to deliver. 262 rushing attempts have netted about 580 yards versus 324 passing attempts for about 2400 yards. Passing attempts on average have gained about 3.4 times the net yardage compared to rushing attempts.

With about 45% of offensive plays so far this season being rushing attempts, it seems clear that the offensive play calling approach needs to be re-examined.

    Let’s go Bows!

UH-USC: 0.7 yards per 31 rushing attempt, 5.1 yards per 41 passing attempt
UH-OSU: 1.7 yards per 33 rushing attempt, 9 yards per 50 passing attempt
UH-Nev: 3.1 yards per 44 rushing attempt, 10.1 yards per 20 passing attempt
UH-Fresno St: 1.5 yard per 35 rushing attempt, 8.2 yards per 46 passing attempt
UH-SJS: 2.6 yard per 33 rushing attempt, 7.3 yards per 53 passing attempt
UH-UNLV: 3.4 yard per 57 rushing attempt, 6.8 yards per 57 passing attempt
UH-CSU: 1.1 yard per 29 rushing attempt, 6.8 yards per 57 passing attempt

I guess I’ll be seeing my favorite Warrior in the morning. Guess he can come home for a couple of hours. Should be fun! Gets to finally see the new house. And his old bedroom.

  41. JustAsking October 31, 2013 9:34 pm

42: Is your favorite Warrior a player? Didn’t think players were allowed to take personal side trips?

  42. mo808 October 31, 2013 9:48 pm

Don’t forget folks! Be a Fan!

Happy All Saints Day in T minus 3.16 hours…

  43. papajoe2 November 1, 2013 12:29 am

I went to the basketball game tonight. BYUH is smaller than UH and a small college. UH seems to be lacking big men. Rozitis, although 7 feet tall plays like a forward with his hands by his waist instead of up by his shoulders. It was obvious that he is huge and not a bad player at all, but imo is wasting his height. Nevels is very quick and not afraid to take it to the hoop. Standhardinger is very good too but kept on the referees about 2 bad calls that he thinks they made. He should let it go and focus on playing basketball. The refs are not changing their call and some refs may get pissed off and start calling things on him. Spearman go hurt on the opening jump ball, just seconds into the game. I hope he is alright. I don’t think Fotu had one of his better games. The UH guard play started off slow with a few turnovers but are very quick compared to BYUH and is probably the strength of the team. Shamburger IS a good playmaker. Thomas, Valdes, Smith, and Harper also contributed well. I left with 7 minutes left in the game to beat the lane closures on the freeway.

  44. wasabi November 1, 2013 4:29 am

53- it’s her son Calen Friel..

    Manoa #1…good one 🙂

  45. gobows November 1, 2013 5:28 am

    #46

shamburger and nevels are the keys. gib finally has playmakers not on loan from fb. standhardinger should get more open shots and 42 will continue getting easy baskets in the paint.

  46. 3-Prong November 1, 2013 6:05 am

Ppj2: good to hear that guard play may be the strength of the team now. Gonna need it in this guard centered league.

  56. tom mui November 1, 2013 7:15 am

    UHFan808

Was going to wear my UH (green) cap; my UA UH green shirt; green pants and green sneakers and be a faithful UH fan for halloween.

However, I began to look like either an small Golly Green Midget or a slightly large menehune!

    GO BOWS!

    BE SAFE AT LAX!!!

  58. wafan November 1, 2013 8:15 am

    Kinpira!

  60. PolyMom November 1, 2013 8:19 am

Let’s hope the boys can get out of LAX. Airport and traffic shut down.they might have to get to the game by bus. It’s bad here. Choppers everywhere. I can see it all from our roof top deck.

  61. PolyMom November 1, 2013 8:19 am

Waiting to hear back from the kid.

  62. Slugger November 1, 2013 8:35 am

    PolyMom,

I remember seeing the kid standing at the practice field gate watching practice before he could join the team. Number of years ago. A bunch of freshman I used to watch are playing their final year and it’s bittersweet to think they are now playing & I don’t get to watch them in person. Hope they all are getting their degrees.

Good luck this weekend! GO WARRIORS!!!

  63. papajoe2 November 1, 2013 8:44 am

#49 3-Prong, Weakness? I may be rebounding. Keep Fotu off the boards (hard to do though) and not much else. The team looks very quick though. After all the years with Coach Wallace and the big men in the WAC, we are now more of a guard, small forward oriented team. They can move and fast.

  64. papajoe2 November 1, 2013 8:46 am

Since its a charter, can they bus to the next airport (Long Beach?) and fly from there?

  65. papajoe2 November 1, 2013 8:51 am

What I don’t like about this long trips, with nearly 100 in the travel party, and all the different busses, flights, hotels, etc., somebody is bound to forget something somewhere. ST, don’t lose your phone in the casino!

  66. LizKauai (mbp) November 1, 2013 8:55 am

papajoe2 – how does the plane get to LB from LAX? Bwahahaha!

  67. Shoko November 1, 2013 9:02 am

Two closest airports that they could fly out is Long Beach or Bob Hope airports. But I think those two airports might be carrying the weight if LAX’s temporary closure.
