JC o-lineman commits to UH
Offensive lineman Mike Milovale of Hartnell College has accepted a football offer from the Warrirors.
He was raised in American Samoa, and was a high school teammate of UH running back Joey Iosefa.
Milovale is 6-4 and 310 pounds.

We all know someone who wants to let you know about a great investment. No obligations. Honest. Just a little of your time.
Punahou running back Steven Lakalaka and Kamehameha safety Taylor Taliulu listened, and yesterday both decided to invest in the Warrior plan. In doing so, they rescinded pledges to Pac-12 schools — Lakalaka to UCLA, Taliulu to Washington State.
“Steven and I are really good friends,” Taliulu said. “We were talking about it. We thought it would be cool to show everyone we’re serious about Hawaii football. We can change this place around.”
Taliulu had been set on going away. After completing his UH trip yesterday, he evaluated his offers.
“I felt home would be the best place for me to get a scholarship and try to be the best player I can be,” Taliulu said. “I think coach Chow has a really good coaching staff. I feel I can gain the best knowledge from them.”
Lakalaka expressed an interest in medicine. During his visit, Chow and assistant coach Keith Uperesa took Lakalaka to the John Burns Medical School. They met with professors and other students.
“That meant a lot,” Lakalaka said.
The message: Many of the things on the mainland can be found in Hawaii.
Lakalaka and Taliulu then discussed their situation.
“We talked about USC and UCLA, and their traditions,” Lakalaka said. “Somebody had to start it. We wanted to be part of starting a tradition.”

First! Let the exciting times roll!
Aloha.
“Starting a tradition” Way to put it. Got a feeling this first recruiting class will make a lot of memories for years to come!
Wow!. The entire State of Hawaii is behind Coach Chow’s vision of the future of UH football!

SPEECHLESS!!
Joke going around the SEC this recruiting week. Have you heard about the new LSU credit card? It has zero interest, zero points, and Les Miles.

Great decision by Lakalaka and Taliulu. I once had a choice between attending a respected established school or going to a newly opened one that was just starting to create its traditions. I chose the new school and it ended up making a huge difference in my life. There’s nothing like helping to build something to be proud of from the ground up. It creates personal bonds and priceless memories that last a lifetime.
If I didn’t have a structure fire to put out I could have been top 5 … Awesome news on the recruiting front. Thank you so much for choosing to be Warriors… There will always be only 1 first recruiting class in the Chow Era. I know this is just the start of exciting times. Go Warriors 🙂
Great job by Chow & staff. 2 x 3-star Pac-12 commits serious about academics as much as athletics *choosing* to go with Hawai’i. Could become one of those “remember when” moments in Warrior football history. And, at the very least, proves Hawai’i can finally & consistently compete for top local talent against ‘elite’ programs featuring new coaches (Leach @ WSU, Mora @ UCLA, Chow @ UH).
Very interesting blog. Im happy I checked it out….will follow.
Welcome to the Warriors recruits! Tradition building…I’m liking it! Go Chow! Go Warriors!
The power of the “Chow” is awesome!
Morning, everyone!
Wow, awesome news!
I know you guys repeated it already, but it’s worth repeating again to everyone contemplating their future, whether it be at home or on the mainland…
Welcome, all new Warriors! Looking forward to the new “Dynasty Warriors”! Let it start here and now!
That was some full on Jedi mind trick. I love it!
Nice!!! This is going good.. It is a good morning in HAWAII!
Matt Sparks visited and committed to UMass over the weekend.
Great to hear news like that on the home front! I hope this also influences some of the other recruits who were on the fence as well.
Great job by the coaching staff and players on this very successful recruiting weekend!
Welcome to the Warriors Steven Lakalaka, Taylor Taliulu, Dejon Allen and Jerrol Garcia-Williams!
Welcome to ALL who have decided to become, WARRIORS!!
imo, if this trend continues….UH will certainly become a force to be reckoned with!!
Thanks for coming back home, coach Chow. You are inspiring so many local prospects with your dream. Mahalo-plenty!!
Good Morning Tsaikos!
Awesome news on the recruiting front.

Some people have occasion for someone to do their toll replacing, some don’t. Some people dearth an deputy to usurp them purchase or push a billet, some don’t. It’s that simple.
Any “leaks” on who the “rebounders” may be? I can hardly wait for the signing moment this week.
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
ST
Great job on your writeup this morning. great job.

glad to see more boys staying home.
hope we can keep this trend going and have local kids fighting to get a scholarship at UH.
“…we want to be part of starting a tradition [in da Chow dynasty]….”
me too.
duffer
very interesting article you posted. “The Destroyer” really got me going, da teacher from Kaimuki High School. got me thinking about Jason. 😀 an Wafan. 😀
maybe Taliulu can be dis generation’s Destroyer.
Very impressive Coach Chow!!! Keep up the hard work and the season ticket holders will grow exponentially. To quote the often used statement from Field of Dreams, “If you build it, they will come”. My family from Maui might consider becoming season ticket holders (super ferry might help too) if Coach Chow continues to convince the states top talent to play for the home team.
Exciting times indeed!
Welcome to Hawaii guys!
Matt Sparks…
I went New Hampshire. my mind game, the idea of the Ivy League, and making it there, was the excitement. once there, i had to stick it out, freezing da oloz year after year. cuz you gotta finish da degree.
then came the freezing morning in June after graduation. by July I was digging out, heading back home. 😀
yup, you gonna learn alot grasshopper. uncle is wishing you da very best. you gonna be appreciated by coach Rolo. my grandchild#3 is appreciated at CW Post, playing vb on a scholarship.
explaining all this to you because you deserve the best.
and so do the recruits who are choosing to stay home.
i’m hoping the best for you means you going to UMass.
and I’m hoping the best for Lakalaka. Taliulu. Fonua. Sai. Woolsey. will happen because they each choose to play for us, Hawaii.
yup, i’m excited for all of us. good luck.
jBone.
i’m happy to learn you might become a season tix holder. ehh… tell you family no take my seat!!!!
Duffer, I fall into tthat category of being old enough to relate to that story. I can remember watching those programs on a Black and White. My mom thought it was all crazy and silly, but for me and my friends, it was real. I remember finally going to one of those events in the Civic, my first time in that structure and being in the front row. The gentlemen who were friends with my dad were regulars to wrestling and invited us to go with them. Unfortunately, King Ripper was in the main event and as you may recall, whenever he got hit but good, he’d let his spit fly.
So much for my hot dog and coke.
It was much, more fun back then. Seems like we all did not take ourselves and life so seriously, which allowed for more laughter, an easier time making and keeping friends and in that course enjoying a different kind of quality of life.
Can’t go back, but it’s great fun to remember.
Entirement d’accord avec ce que je viens de lire !
Good morning Tsaikos!
Great recruiting news! Hope to hear more on Wednesday.
As a former UH player…there is no tradition at UH. No school fight song THAT EVERYONE SINGS TOGETHER, like EVERY other school in the nation…GO BOWS and LETS GO HAWAII arent cutting it. I attend a bunch of college games every year and UH IS THE ONLY SCHOOL THAT DOESNT HAVE THAT KIND OF FAN INTERACTION.
A simple handout at the gate of the words to a fight song, cheers and other fan participation opportunies. I went to the SUGAR BOWL their fans were ready to cheer…I noticed many drunk girls that had there back to the game until a cheer then they were all about it.
Players like Adrian Klemm feel the program let him down, that the program has no connection to former star players (that played multiple years in the league, that are not local)
have a great day Tsaikos everywhere. great day indeed!
Great posting! I really like the way you are sharing the unique take on this subject. Keep it up!
D
i hear you. and that is gonna take action by the AD. gave him a original fight song book from 1953. mint condition.
now he just gotta find da right singa fo make da words jump out, catchy kine, like
BOOM SHAKALAKALAKA BOOM SHAKALAKALAKA.
too bad Adrian has had alot of years go by, and himself neva try lead da cheer.
but we got Coach Chow now, and i’m saying give him time. he get one pedigree. and we got Don Weir. just saying, join da wagon, talk nice and positive. maybe good things are coming down the road.
I am hopeful.
go Coach Go!
D
you also gotta remember, UH is home of the quiet peeps. not da KPT or Waianae Peeps, but da talk softly stay at home read books kinda peeps. gotta change da culture. and i think its changing. because Chow is here.
G-R-E-A-T N-E-W-S
Congrats to our new Warriors, it’s about being a part of something bigger than ourselves, it’s about being a part of something that will be your legacy, it’s about being a part of something that will live on long after your playing days are over….it’s about being a part of something that will make history.
What exciting news, and it’s not even Wednesday yet. Now, we as fans need to support Coach Chow and the program, and THAT is why we are buying our season tickets again. We will donate them to the Tsaiko’s for the most part since we will be supporting ‘the beast’ in his final season as a Wildcat, but we might be able to make one or two games.
Next season, I already got the green light that we are on the travel squad for the Warriors…cheeeeee hoooooo 🙂
GO WARRIORS
GO WILDCATS
Howzit Everybody,
Congrats to those committed to play for the Warriors. Hopefully there will be a whole new tradition started with this class.
good morning tsaikos. lots of good news and it ain’t wed yet.
Also congrats to Matt Sparks for his commitment to UMass.
Thank you ‘duffer’ for the walk through “memory lane”. I too was a big fan of 50th State Wrestling and my favorites were “Handsome” Johnny Barend, Curtis “the Bull” Iaukea and Ripper Collins. And of the guys later passing thru, Ray Stevens (partners with Pat Patterson, as I remember) became my favorite. That was such a fun time and of the matches I saw live, there was some real blood that was spilled along with the fake as well as some real scars for the participants. Now that’s what you call a “contact” and physical sport.
Great Morning All!
Truly great.
Welcome home Steven Lakalaka and Taylor Taliulu!
Whew!
I’d never wanna be bidding against this coaching staff on e-Bay! 😉
Good morning, gangees!
Welcome, Allen! E komo mai, recruits!
Mahalo, Coach Chow!
Have a good day, everyone. Latahs…
Wow, Allen committed even though they screwed up his name on the welcome poster.
Aside a fight song, sending out regular bulletins (similar to the AKA bulletin) to all the football alumni, past & present, throughout the year to keep them abreast of what’s going on with the program (i.e., recruiting updates, game notes, get togethers, fund raisers, features on past/present players, meet & greet sessions when the team is on the road, etc.) would go a long way to make the alumni feel appreciated and not forgotten.
I’d also suggest getting a fund raiser started by asking past footballers for donations for new lockers where they get a plaque (name, #, year(s) played, honors, etc.) on the locker they donated for. This is a great way for new players to learn of the former players who came before them & who shared their jersey #. (Other schools (public & private) and have been pretty successful with this.)
In short, so many ideas that be can be undertaken to really make the Warrior program better than ever.
Any scoops on the recruits who visited this past weekend (or previous weekends) but haven’t committed yet, i.e. Fiso, Januska, Fanaika?
#51 D, I hear you and see where that could be improved. Please also note that Hawaii, because of its isolation is somewhat different. Part of the “embracing” you describe as missing needs also to come from the ones who want to be embraced. That’s been a part of who the culture is. They are quiet as described, but a part of that also wants to be recognized as wanting to be wanted.
Look at the small participant pool that is Wahine Volleyball and watch how those girls are embraced by those local aunties and the extended families of the local girls.
A part of the embracing comes from recognition of the time spent here. When watching the Pro games do introductions, when a player who played at UH says he played for UH as opposed to his mainland high school, it says that that player embraced his time in the isolated place called Hawaii. If he “gives props” to his HS, the locals feel that he still sees that as more important, which is okay, but the local will not feel the same toward that player as those who claim the Hawaii experience.
I believe that Coach Chow’s decision to take practices to other communities will build that embrace that may have been missing during your tenure.
WE may lack a song, but as a local culture we do not lack for the sense of extended family. IT just has to be made a two way effort and believe that Coach understands and is putting this in place.
i want a UH steven lakalaka jersey http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhMig8G3ucI
JJ & Mack both had scrimmages on neighbor islands, so they have been reaching out… I know in the past Adrian Klemm was a member of Na Koa at the one of the highest donor levels, so he has given back to the program. The Letterwinners Club is getting more active, but I think they concentrate on activities in Hono, California and Las Vegas. Na Koa is making an effort to recognize previous football letter winners (apparently the records are missing some of the early years), and they are asking people to contact them.
StarAdvertiser screwed up spelling of Taliulu’s name in print version. Bad, bad, bad.
Anyway. Welcome to:
Steven Lakalaka
Taylor Taliulu
Dejon Allen
Jerrol Garcia-Williams
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
And what a good morning it is. Running out of superlatives for Chow, his recruiters and the recruits. Let’s just put it this way – have to agree with most posters here, Chow and company are doing a terrific job, and it isn’t even Wedsnesday.
To all of the new recruits, thank you for comitting. Congatualtions for being part of a very exciting renewal of UH Football. Along with others in your recruit class and with some very talented returnees, UH Football is going to very exciting to watch. Thanks for being part of something very special.
Coach Chow. Awesome. Nuff said!
GO WARRIORS!!!
There’s a tiny comma between Dejon Allen’s names on the placard.
Wonderful blogs. Thank you very much for your effort! These contents are very interesting to read
DPK, I agree, great work!
Now if the off season training could help the returning young men beef up their academic standings, gain strength, conditioning and flexibility, it’ll be an interesting spring.
I am most interested in seeing what our returning o-linemen will do in the off season to prepare. It will be different and I only hope that those young men see it that way and will prepare well in advance to make the most of the changes that are coming. That o-line could be the strength of the team. Preparation physically, emotionally and academically will be key.
Exciting, very exciting.
#74 – Buffoman,
We can only imagine, given Coach’s thoroughness in his recruiting efforts, that he’s going to be all over the offseason stuff. Warriors will be doing hard work. SC’s right around the corner.
Jeez –
Just re-read my post at #71. I’m very, very sorry for using the word “very” so very many times. Very annoying, I reckon. Its very hard for us ole guys to write our very best so very early in the morning. I’ll try to be very careful not use “very” so much in in the future. 😳
ST,
Any confirmation that Chow already cut two players for showing up late to an off season lifting workout?
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Amazing, just amazing! Coach Chow and the other coaches have done wonders considering how little time they had cultivating the fields and planting the seeds.
Great harvest so far – expect more by Wednesday!
Admiring the dedication you put into your blog and in depth information you offer. It’s awesome to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same out of date rehashed information. Fantastic read! I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.
we should all go and celebrate the amazing recruiting accomplishments thus far by eating chow fun at Hee Hing restaurant today!
Excited about the recruits and glad they made the decision to stay home. Makes me think back to my days when I had to decide which school to attend. I had to choose between staying home and going away. Was tough. However, I chose to go away and it payed off. I went with Kapiolani Community College over Windward Community College.
#231 previous page STEVEN! Want me to give you a wake up call at 5 am? hahahahah Hey we have to do it this early, signing has to be at 7 am for all the kids so UH can do their press conference as well as all the colleges the kids are going to on the mainland (all levels). Everyone is welcome if they can drag their okole’s out of bed.
oops… I meant Stephen. my bad
quite good publish, i surely adore this internet web site, keep on it
#46….playing for Coach Ogoshi from Kailua!! Good girl! My dad went to CW Post back in the stone age when we were little living on Long Island (see I’ve always been and Island girl..Long Island, Sicily, Hawaii with occasional stops in Maryland and the desert)
Yes Matt Sparks commited to play for U Mass with Rolo. He’s really excited.
Hopefully good news continues!!! Couple DTs, Brostek, Fanaika, come on!!
I thought this news was interesting and could have serious implications for UH and the MWC. The NCAA apparently wants to split D-IA into 2 divisions…
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/story/2012-01-29/ncaa-division-I-structure-football/52875162/1
Garret, I saw that too and it’s very concerning. Under no circumstances would UH want to be left behind with the have-nots. I think that’s true for most of the schools in the proposed MWC-CUSA merged conference.
True about UH not having a traditional fight song. Why not have a contest on who can come up with a fight song or remix an old one if there is one. The song chosen receives lifetime season tickets to all home games. The boys can still keep the Haka. Do it after the fight song. I notice when we lose we just walk off the field with our heads down. When we win we perform the Haka. It will show Pride and Class is always represented. IT’S WHO WE (polynesian people) ARE. I’ve always taught my son (currently on UH squad) since Pop Warner, “ALWAYS WIN with PRIDE and LOSE with CLASS”. Win or lose, fill the stadium. SEC, ACC, PAC-12 etc do it. Why can’t we?
Ever herd of the Crab syndrome? Crabs trying to get to top of the rock, but there are other crabs always trying to pull them down. When I read some of these of these blogs, that’s the feeling I get. People trying to help the program and well…..you all know the rest. Manuia le aso.
#77 Go Bows
Although I don’t have any names, I can confirm that at least two players have already been cut from the team for not meeting expectations. An inside source told me that Chow has even posted a picture of what he wants the players locker to look like. If one thing is out of order, that player must report to Chow’s office by 6am the next morning. If study hall or a training session is missed, those players are being dealt with by either running on the field, or reporting to Chow’s office. The team lacks discipline because the previous staff was too lenient about too many things. Chow is not only trying to make a statement, but he only wants players that work hard and want to be a WARRIOR!
Congrats to Matthew Sparks on commitment to UMass with Rolo!
early commits by Fonua, Sai, Lakalaka and Taliumu are sure to set-off a maelstrom of emotions in the local Polynesian community for its prime football athletes to stay home. Chow makes a good point to reverse Hawaii’s talent exodus: the path to success begins and ends here in hawaii….Chow should know–he took the same route from Wilder Street to Salt Lake, nearly two generations ago….and returned. He is also making a strong case for mainland Polynesians to return home. And, that maybe the biggest statement yet. while Polynesians represent the smallest of American minorities, still, mainland Pacific Islanders dwarf the number in Hawaii.
It’s ironic that the once rejected Norm Chow, has returned, to unite and ignite a resurgence in the hometeam. It came at a most critical time, when the Manoa soothsayers and power brookers were humbled through their past mistakes.
Hawaiian history is replete with examples such as the false lono who sailed into Kealakekua Bay during the makahiki. Cook’s arrival was mistook to represent a manifestation reserved to demigods. And, so it was, has been and remained–until now. Norm Chow is by no means a demigod. But, he is a man on a mission with an hour glass turned upside down. If anyone can dispell the myth of Capt Cook, that everything begins and ends in the east– it could be Chow.
In Polynesia, the North star rules. It is the motherland for all of Polynesia. Hawaii. Welcome home, Coach Chow, your legacy is just about to begin.
About the Haka, will Chow allow it?
Happy for UH and for the vote of confidence the program received from the two local blue chips. Now it is the time to show good faith and support the team. Buy tickets, donate to the program and help Coach Chow and his players make the dream come true. One thing is a little disturbing in the blogs. Local players who go to the mainland are sometimes cast as traitors or disloyal to our state. No way, this is a personal life decision. Sometimes kids just need to get away! Lets help our best make the decision to stay in Hawaii by building up our program and making it something to be proud of!
UH fight song:
http://www.hawaii.edu/news/article.php?aId=2068
almost always played after a uh score (home game).
Mongering everyone and welcome new warriors. Keep they pipeline going.
mongering? huh?
92…nice read
95…thanks. i knew there was one. i just can never remember the lyrics.
100
al, remember when they had the old scoreboard at aloha stadium and they displayed the lyrics as the fight song was playing after a score? what didn’t make sense, and still doesn’t make sense today, was that the mascot was doing his thing and nothing ever got coordinated with the fans in singing the fight song. the coordination of fan effort was discussed previously so i’ll stop for now.
in the meantime, welcome recruits! good job coaches and parents!
keep working hard because once the scoreboard is turned on, only winning counts.
UH fight song
Here‘s to our dear Hawaiʻi,
Here‘s to our Green and White.
Here‘s to our Alma Mater;
Here‘s to the team with fight.
Rah! Rah! Rah!
Here‘s to old warriors calling,
Here‘s to old battles won.
Here‘s to Hawaiʻi‘s victory,
Here‘s to each valiant one.
sung to this tune by UH band
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ehBlRiAGso&feature=related
103,
No offense but there is not much fight in that song…. BORING!!! Someone really needs to write a new song and submit it.
Pomai, and no forget after the song gotta spell…
W – A – R – R – IORS…GO WARRIORS!
This to me is “mickey mouse” and an insult to our past athletes, coaches and administrators:
The University of Hawai‘i Sports Circle of Honor is now in its 29th year. What originally began as the UH Sports Hall of Honor in 1982 is located on the inner concourse of the University’s 10,300-seat Stan Sheriff Center, overlooking the court. Over the years, a total of 93 members and 10 teams have been inducted into the Circle of Honor.
Have you ever tried to read the about the “Honored” athletes?
Have you ever noticed those plaques and “Pillars of Honor”? And kinda hard to read. Plus it looks terrible.
I got no problem with the plaques and stuff honoring athletes but Why have it only in the SSC? I am pretty sure no one can go and visit and view that Circle of Honor at their leisure. Fans and future fans should have a place to go and read about past athletic acheivements. I have been to other universities where I could read about past athletic acheivements and it was just an awesome place to visit.
What is the criteria used to determine entry into Circle of Honor?
Who decides? I think the Letterwinners club should have a strong voice in that. And I am pretty sure Adian Klemm is not in the Circle of Honor. Why not?
Somehow, we have to build an actual building that displays all the awards and honorees accomplishments. Call it the Hawaii Warriors Hall of Fame. Make it truly a place of honor. Where people can visit at their leisure. And set actual guidelines as to how athletes can make the Hall of Fame so that they have something to strive for, and nothing to complain about later.
Those pillars around the SSC is ridiculous and an insult to the athletes, coaches, administrators and to us fans.
Just my opinion.. And yes I donate to the program what I can afford.
Looks like Jeremiah Valoaga decommitted from Utah and will be going to UNLV instead….
also, no mo Noga’s in the CoH.
Co-Ed.
That is the University of Hawai’i fight song. Has been for a long time.
Well, that and Fight for Old Hawai’i.
Click on my name for a YouTube link.
Speaking of traditions
they should start a pep rally on campus before every football game at least. that probably would bring more student support.
and everyone sing the fight song at the rally.
and make it a real school pep rally not the corporate rinky-dink stuff they have tried recently.
and start some new cheers. kinda no make sense everyone yelling Let’s Go Bows. , when we are called Warriors. The cheer should be Let’s Go Warriors! duh…
And YES, please end the Rain – … – Bows, back and forth endless, boring “cheering”. The problem with that cheer is that it has no end to it.
New cheers, or rally cries! please… we need something to answer back to all these other school’s cheers.
sorry, i got no solution here, i not big on the the rhyming stuff.
UH not having a traditional fight song?
I saw black and white footage of “Co-Ed”, I saw late 80’s tailgate clips of people with ukuleles and guitars singing Co-Ed in the parking lot…
Co-Ed, you know, that song that is played at EVERY HOME GAME FOR ALL SPORTS!!!
Again, UH has traditions of it’s own, but I guess some are busy as USUAL thumbing their nose due to their subsequent inferiority complex and always drooling over what traditions bigger schools that get national TV coverage on a weekly basis does.
107 – I’m 90% sure Al Noga is in the Circle of Honor.
Good thing Taliulu committed because Ma’ne Manaea didn’t even make trip this weekend and looking like a solid Idaho commit
Are our colors still just green and white? What happens to the fight song when they wear green and black … ?
Please some put a remix on the fight song. “Hail to the WARRIORS “or “LADYS WARRIORS” for womens sports.

About the Haka, will Chow allow it?
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
I hope Coach Chow will DISCONTINUE it – it’s a distraction to the task at hand;
which is to WIN the football game.
This is D-1 FOOTBALL, not ETHNIC STUDIES 101.
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
(In previous years, I did write Coach Mack about it; but he said he would let the team decide.)
I think the Haka or Ha’a Should be continued as an integral part of our team identity.
Otto, looking through the list of inductees, no mo Noga’s.
While all this excitement over the local recruits is completely justified, we have to be careful not to chase away mainland recruits who are neither local nor polynesian. I mean if you were a top level recruit and read the boards and had no local ties and wasn’t polynesian, would you feel like an outsider? Hearing Coach Chow speak was inspirational, but the message that is coming out of Hawaii has to be balanced. Keep the top local talent and welcome with open arms top mainland talent.
Ideally, recruits SHOULDN’T be reading message boards, but no can help. Gotta wonder how many times a prospect Googles their own name to see what pops up and where it is coming from.
God forbid a propsect reads a message board and realizes “holy cow, some of their fans don’t even know what their fight song is!!!”
Willie Henry committed to Michigan. Congrads to him Really was hoping he would come but best of luck to him
coaches asked samson anguay to move back to RB.
awesome picture of davone bess and coach chow.

glad to see warriors of past still keeping in touch with the football program, even with a totally new coaching staff!
re uniform color. why do we wear black when uh color is green and white. was jj who started the black unis, why, because it makes uh look menacing? we should go back to our traditional green and white. watched the past season bowl games and all the bcs games and all the schools wore their traditional colors. think ok state was the only one who wore black unis. i say get rid of the black and go back to green and white. IMUA
TYaiea:
Das cause you stay from Aiea… and Aiea’s colors are also Green and White, yah?
Hoping Fiso signs w/ UH & convinces a teammate or 2 to join him. There quite a number of Long Beach Poly players who are highly sought after this year. Would be great to keep this pipeline going & ending at UH.
The first line in the fight song,” here’s to our dear hawaii “it should be “here’s to hawaii’s warriors”…”dear hawaii” brings no fighting spirit.
I’d like to see the UH uniforms go back to Green and White. It can be a darker tone of green, if need be for a more menacing look. However, I would say that if you want to be menacing, do so through your play on the field and not by what you wear. Same goes for the haka.
TYaiea: I heard that Wendell Say was going to add Black to Aiea’s Green & White this year to honor “Aiean” Warriors like Savaiigaea, Keisel-Kauhane & others. Whatcha think about that? Nah, only kidding (I think).
Jessica S. …
[…] I found this nice information on this very nice website […] …
Re: fight song – I attended a basketball “only” school. I don’t remember a fight song, just a cheer. Never learned the alma mater. Games were waaay off-campus (30 min in good traffic, at least an hour in rush hour traffic). Don’t generalize.
tyaiea – more schools are wearing black in addition to their school colors. Evidence of it was seen on Friday when Grand Canyon wore black. Their school colors were purple and white(?).
i’m with old school dave, keep it green and white…can change the shade of green, like the UA green shirt and maybe chage the design of the color mix…gosh if we had a benefactor like oregon’ p. knight…btw live in aiea but originally born and grew up in kahuku, long long time ago when still had the plantation.
Watching part of the Pro Bowl yesterday, I noticed several tv views on Hawaii’s northern coast line shots which were just beautiful!
About 12-15 years ago, UH oceanographers began “mapping” the sea around the Hawaiian Islands and made a strartling discovery. They found a “rock slide” from Kauai to the Big Island and 5 – 7 miles in depth. What could have caused such an event?
always wondered why all the “northern” side of all islands were so “water to bottom of cliff” scenario – only exception is the windward side of Oahu, the Hanalei valley area of Kauai, and isthmus between Haleakala and west Maui mountain range.
112…another one of those things that make you go “huh?”.picking idaho over hawaii……..
picking idaho/wac over hawaii/mwc?
kibbie dome over aloha stadium?
becoming a vandal vs a warrior?
moscow, id 24k over honolulu, hi 400k?
six restaurant over 2k eateries?
moscow, id has one zipcode hawaii
moscow: for every 100 women there are 110 males.
honolulu: for every 100 women there are 94 males.
moscow’s greatest tourist attraction is the public library all we got is the beach at waikiki.
Continued congrats to Coach Chow and his staff in recruiting players who want to be Warriors.
2 more days and chance that others will decide to be part of the Chow era – something special!
al,
Yeh but no forget about the vodka! 😈
Add Nuclear reactor disposal site to Idaho versus none for Hawaii.
Magnificent goods from you, man. I have understand your stuff previous to and you’re just extremely great. I actually like what you have acquired here, certainly like what you’re saying and the way in which you say it. You make it enjoyable and you still take care of to keep it wise. I can’t wait to read far more from you. This is actually a wonderful website.

mr. ahouse…howzit?
i know this was a few days ago when you discussed the burrito on the flight home from lost wages, however, i asked a frequent flyer of that same airlines who claims that the free burrito is really good stuff.
i told em that i know another guy who begs to differ. then i mentioned that you were so used to the gourmet food at the bellagio.
Well, there’s something to be said about small-town settings…
…as soon as I find out what it is, I’ll post it here!
As mentioned earlier, more & more teams adding Black uniforms (Oregon, Arizona St, Georgia, Northwestern, Kentucky, Maryland, Rutgers, etc.). This happened after UH wore their Black. I like to think that we started the trend & were the first in something on the national collegiate football level.
(We also had a “first” in appearing in a BCS game – more firsts to come in the future w/ Norm Chow & co.)
off-topic
SMU: We hear more changes are coming on the offensive side of the ball. Sources telling us
running backs coach Wes Suan might move to offensive line and other changes are in the
works as well. We’ll keep you posted.
We also saw that Junior QB Kyle Padron sought, and was granted, his release in order to transfer (SMU single season passing, TDs and completions leader). (this part posted by another blogger)
… from the coaches hiring blog.
circle of honor…observations
there seems to be as many if not more non-athletes in this circle.
when will june jones be enshrined?
just because he is still employed, shouldn’t dave shoji be in there already like a long time ago?
where is mark tuinei?
if there’s larry sherrer, then there should be nolan george and tennyson lum.
where’s ed “soupy” kawawaki in all this?
shouldn’t timmy chang’s records been enough to get him a place here?
colt brennan, remember that guy?
what? where’s the 2007 warrior football team that made national headlines getting to the bcs’s sugar bowl?
there’s no doubt that the greatest ommission and error by the powers to be is the fact that they have refused to place the noga brothers in this enshrinement.
…nuff said
134# Great Comparison
136…btw, i think only i got that one.
mr. ahouse, yeah the food on hawaiian air is junk. we always bring our own food over and pick up sandwiches (hoagies) on our return. if you want to pay extra, you can purchase the special meals offered. Other than the meal, hawn air is the best, good and attentive attendants, only one with direct flights to vegas, free entertainment, etc…wife and i go to lv every month and that’s the only airline we fly on. be leaving on Thurs nite for the super bowl festivities.
I’m sure Kyle Padron and Bo Levi Mitchell do not share the same sentiment of JJ as does Timmy and Colt. ‘love me then leave me” SMU almost got some of that too.
An All-Conference DT on #2 son’s team was asked about his favorite uni combo (purple and white school colors).
He said, all-purples. There’s nothing better than to pummel a guy and watch his reaction to getting his a$$ kicked by a guy dressed like Barney! 😆
Bottom line: No care what you wear. Intimidation comes from domination.
nice tag on jerrol garcia-williams

rite on d1. can’t wait for wednesday. hope all those verbals come thru and pick up some others that weren’t really talked about. IMUA…
OK. Hawaii missed out on the boy from ND.
Maybe stop by and leave a card with this Iowa family.

Good Luck TYaiea!
Have a great time! 🙂
#145 – al – there is a total of 58 athlete’s and 29 non-athlete’s, this includes the latest inductees Brooke and Patsy.
148…i think i’ll tell the family member what you said. that’ll make em happy.
51-D
Not sure what your point was to post such a statement. It seems you’re leaving it to others to solve a problem that may or may not be occurring.
But here’s the thing. Let’s assume you’re a former player as you’ve stated. If you’re referencing Adrian Klemm’s name I am to presume you both were teammates which makes you in your late 20’s to early early 30’s. At this point in life you should be well on your way in pursuit of your life’s goals and to being an outstanding citizen. Also at this age you should be more than capable of distinguishing whats right from wrong.
Now, rather than come onto the blog and condemn the program, why not step up and make a difference. Why not come forth, be a Warrior and champion a change in the culture. Right what you see as wrong.
If it’s simple handouts that you believe will change the spirit and attitude of the fans, then why not make it them yourself. Find companies that will sponsor the printing of those sheets with the fight song on them. You could make them business card size so that people could keep them in their wallets for easy reference. You could also have the lyrics printed in handouts given at games. This may sound absolutely crazy but, I believe you could even take it a step further. Why not convince stadium and Stan Sheriff officials to post the lyrics on the Jumbotron as the band plays the fight song. Or, how about this- get a band member to hold up a giant flip sheet with the lyrics on it! Have the student hold it up so that everyone in attendance can see it. Why not convince UH to post the lyrics to their website and make it available.
Perhaps you could hold pep rallies at UH and teach the students the fight song. Hold pep rallies downtown and get the business community to participate during their lunch hour. How about holding a statewide contest for school kids to create a video of their entire school singing the fight song!
Maybe you could start up an Alumni program that keeps in touch with all the former players. Not only from football but from every sport. You could make a Circle of Honor where you’d recognize former players achievements. Maybe create a website that honors every athlete. Post their playing stats that can be easily looked up and crossed referenced with other former athletes.
Once the Alumni program is up and running maybe you could have dinners, luncheons or fundraisers and invite these former players to attend to be honored or be guest speakers. Maybe even sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
You could have mandatory history lessons for current players to know about former players. They would have to do research, find a former player, interview them and enter their findings in a data base for all to see.
D- you have a allot work ahead of you. Good luck and get busy my friend. We look forward to hearing positive results from you in the near future.
155…yes mr. pomai i counted that many too. i was just making a point that there seems to be an abundant number of non-athletes in the circle, whereas, to me there should be a greater disparity of athletes to non-athletes ratio.
especially when the likes of the nogas are missing from this list.
Pomai…
I guess that means that at UH behind every 2 outstanding athletes is a third wheel.
I wonder what the ratios are at other unis.
Fight for Old Hawai’i
Odd live recording where the silly stadium announcer is trying to talk over the band. Idiot.
So, how many of you will download it as your ringtone?
I think Kevin posted the words once upon a time a long time ago.
I guarantee the Sark will be trying to start poaching off recruits from our class….
Top OT Zach Banner just announced USC over UDUB. Got to think Dejon Allen phone will be blowing up this week and I pray his commitment is solid… I usually hate these last 2 days of recruiting because usually more bad happens than good when it comes to midmajor teams.
tyaiea…those not for free meals leaving hawaiian air out of hnl are actually very good. i think it was bev gannon before and now from chai chaowasaree. of course you must fly first class domestic or on all int’l flights.
anyway, when has coach meals ever been a gourmet experience.
Come on. Is anyone going to add a comment with some value?
Some value
in the past…the coach talked about recruiting bigger, stronger, and faster players.
now, the coach gets bigger, stronger, and faster players.
brostek has eliminated oregon. looks like it’s down to UH and washington…
I’m hoping that the recruiting of athletes will turn out to everybody’s satisfaction. The athlete and fans. So far, it seems the results based on verbal commitments will turn out to be a banner year for football. Looks like Coach Chow’s efforts are paying off…considering he had to evaluate the prior staff and search for the present assistants…and survey the field for prospective recruits. I’m sure his position at Utah State gave him a foot up on the field of recruits.
Now, my two cents regarding UH uniform colors. The Athletics Director should standardize the shade of green to be used on ALL uniforms. No black. If athletes think black makes them look fiercer, well, I think we recruited the wrong athlete. Look at Boise State – blue, Ohio State – orange, North Carolina – sky blue. They seem to proud of their school colors and their performances don’t seem to have been hampered by their less than fierce colors. The haka and Vili the warrior? Ditch both of them. I agree that the haka would tend to exclude the mainland recruits. Not a message that should be given to all team members. After all, isn’t the haka of Maori origin?
Factcheck: Well said.
besides samson aguay moving over to rb…i am still waiting for chinede “promise” amadi to make that transition.
like jeezy33 said, it is great stuff to have that shorty, little, shifty speed backs come flying out of seemingly no where behind those behemoths on the line. by the time you notice them they’ve already gained ten yards.
and then boom lakalaka to break your shoulder pads.
and then bam from a joey “palooka” iosefa to give you a mean buzz on the helmet.
then zip zip pass to miah and company from the slot.
and then aloha over the top to trevor davis and chris gant.
comng soon!
PRIDE said it with more power but I still hate it when a player says “I’m playing for Hawaii!”
No, he is playing for Idaho
No, he is playing for Washington
No, he is playing for UCLA or USC or Nebraska
He definitely is not playing for Hawaii.
I guess there is nothing wrong for playing for one’s self or self interest, but he is not playing for Hawaii.
re: #163 $3.99?
Sorry using swype to type not the greatest.
Isn’t these last 2 or 3 days a dead period?
one call is okay.
usually a large fan associated with connecting in order to blog owners that i really like however don’t get lots of hyperlink adore through.
As Guy Hagi says, we’ve got the best weather on the planet.
It is gorgeous outside. That’s where everyone went I suppose…
Just because the Circle of Honor is still missing names of deserving individuals, those already in it deserve worked just as hard and did a lot for UH and any ridicule of the Circle of Honor is a ***** SLAP in the face for all those currently inducted.
Another thing that bothers me is the amount of attention local athletes get when they go to mainland schools. The write up of their performances is written so glowingly, as for me, “who cares?” Compare that to athletes who come from the mainland to play for Hawaii. The comparison is shameful. Hawaii athletes who go to the mainland should be relegated to “oh, by the way, so and so is doing this” on the back pages of the paper. Not only is the print media is to blame but TV is also bad about this. Teo of ND is a case in point.
Patsy Mink is a 3rd wheel? She was the non-athlete next to Brooke Wilkins and Natasha Kai.
For anyone with a daughter or friend earning an athletic scholarship, I think their opinion of Mink might be HIGHER than that.
Oh but then again.. maybe Mink might have been of the wrong political party in some people’s minds.. so…. ok.
Nice to see that Pat Hill has a job with the Atlanta Falcons as O-Line Coach. He was the enemy, but always respectful of the Warriors. Pretty funny to see that he attended UH Spring practices as a guest, at least I think it was spring ball.
Excited to find out what pleasant surprises may pop up on LOI Wednesday. Impressed with the body of work so far in such a short time with coaching staff.
Went shopping to Don Quijote just before lunch and saw what looked
like a fb recruit, about 6’6′ blonde dude, being shown around the
store by a 6 foot guy… excited by all the merchandise…but the tall
recruit was deep into his tweets, head down never looking up, just
saying, ummm, ummm, oh yeah, that’s nice, ummm, ummm.
😯
per ST’s header ….
Offensive lineman Mike Milovale of Hartnell College has accepted a football offer from the Warrirors.
He was raised in American Samoa, and was a high school teammate of UH running back Joey Iosefa.
Milovale is 6-4 and 310 pounds.
Wafan,
Fight for Old Hawaii. Now used as a supplementary song to add to the music. Still love the upbeat tempo of it!
i have nothing against those that are in the CoH but i question the selection committee on the requirements for getting into the circle. case in point, Clay Stanley’s achievements as a player vs. the achievements of Al or Niko Noga for the University of Hawaii. just sayin…my beef is with the selection process.
PASS!!!
Good luck in your future endeavors young man. 🙄
kevin…my comment was not meant towards any inductee. i just want the selection committee to someday forgive whatever pains them about the nogas.
yeah, Kevin, especially when he was being shown where to buy
gyoza and tofu…he wasn’t interested at all.
milovale….aloha.
okay three more parents to go.
Welcome aboard, OL Mike Milovale of Hartnell College.
We need speed
So, is he, Mike Milovale considered a “rebounder” or not? I am still interested in just who the “rebounder(s)” may be.
What happened to Mr. Dustin Adams, is he committed to coming to UH? Did not follow after reading that a UH assistant when up to see him.
Now that we have Mr. Lakalaka and Mr. Taliuli committed to UH, wouldn’t it be simply over the top for local recruiting if Mr. Brostek chose UH over UW. Wow, that would be quite a terrific start to the Chow dynasty.
welcome to the warriors big mike!
The “third wheel” isn’t always a bad thing, on may devices, it’s the wheel that steers.
and allows for the device to stand on it’s own.
Come to think of it, who takes a recruit to Don Quijote?
Might as well take a recruit to a chicken fight in Nalo before heading back to campus.
Mike Milovale welcome to the Warriors!
humans are so big nowadays. welcome to Warrior football Mike!
Cheeehooo!!!!
isn’t recruiting visits over? maybe that was a pro bowler.
or as us Chowder heads would say it, Chowhoooo!
big mike has a great looking highlight video. very capable of both run blocking and pass protecting. looks to have good hips and quick feet to turn defenders inside.
him and blake muir can battle it out during spring camp for the #1 LT spot. i wonder who else coach chow has projected to play LT.
dustin adams is no longer a hawaii recruit…he chose n. illinois.
Why is it that when someone sees a tall guy with another tall guy, they assume the person is a recruit? What if he was just a guy who was new to the state and that was his dorm roomate showing him around? Are we eavesdropping that much on people’s conversations that we can ID people as recruits?
Did he have a t-shirt that said “recruit?”
Maybe he was “just” a pro-bowler or just another tall guy.
But he was young, muscular and looked taller and heavier
than cam newton…somebody you’d like your daughter to marry.
I am often to blogging and i really appreciate your content. The article has really peaks my interest. I am going to bookmark your site and keep checking for new information.
Frick, I’ve done that. 😆
Was sitting near courtside for a Wahine volleyball match years ago and Bill Amis brought two new guys with him. (Was Lasha Pargahlava and Petras Balocka). My friends couldn’t help hold in laughter as I was mockingly trying to peep in on their conversation in the row in front of us. 😆 😆
But in my defense it was pretty obvious they were bball recruits.
TY Aiea:
You and Mrs have a great time!
Win some back for us!
Told Mrs A-House maybe we can do the same in a year or 2!
Any word on Fehoko Fanaika? Or no chance at all?
fresno fans think he is a lock.
i didn’t realize how sought after fehoko fanaika was… c’mon ray, we need your help to win this battle!
http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2012/jan/23/filling-gaps-weis-seeks-jucos-transfers-bolster-ro/
I know this is the Dead Period, but is it ok for other recruits to call recruits. Like having Fonua, Taliuli, and Lakalaka, calling Brostek, to convince him to play for the Warriors, and be their teammate.
i don’t see why not.
ST: is Mike Milovale a JC with only two years eligibility left?
Kevin/Kevin1
Same reason, I suppose, everyone thinks I play chess and memorize Star Wars lines.
(Then again, I was in the chess club in high school. We called ourselves the Check Mates. OK, that was kinda geeky.)
I once talked to brostek’s dad (Bern) many yrs ago. he wanted to play for Hawaii but his dad said NO. I hope Bern doesn’t pressure his son to leave home.
There might be a scholarship or two that will open up.
Welcome to Benihana’s.
Welcome Mike Milovale.
So happy Lakakaka is staying home. YES! Now can someone please call FAIRBAIN and keep him home too! He is AMAZING!!!!
Regarding Patsy Mink she was an incredible woman. She and my Mom went to Maui High School. If not for MINK there would be NO Title IX. May she rest in peace and be remembered as one of the real and TRUE feminist who did not hate men like the other feminist of her time.
Aloha to you all, especially to Tom Mui and Don Weir. Back to work. Very busy in LA with all the award shows.
Recruiting looking real good. With a couple more surprises by LOI day (especially at LB & DL coupled w/ another local boy or 2), the 2012 recruiting effort can be deemed “extraordinary!”
polymom…thanks for the cookies!
benihana?
heard that rumor, too.
Milovale is the #10 ranked OG in the nation by one source. This for sure, Chow & Co. have already distinquished themselves for having a great network of eyes. That is because they have been beating these grounds for decades and scouring the mainland landscape for talent. You cant beat the experience of working the juco and high school networks in california and throughout the west and SW. In retrospect, our previous coaches handicapped themselves by hiring only locals. We should never repeat this mistake again.
With the commit of milovale our offensive line looks to be our strongest unit. Both in depth and in quality athleticism. We are good to go barring injury or academic casualties…im still amazed that coach Chow has the luxury of playing UH recruit Dejon Allen on the DL. Bold statement of what is to come.
Milovale is a tough and relentless guy. Him & D. Allen can be big assets to the DL.
milovale is an olinemen.
allen will be on the defensive side of the ball.
fiso and brostek are killing me…i just want to know already!!!! waaaah!
ST 215 . . . Kinda like how people always assume I’m a model or an actor because of my stunning good looks. Truth is, I only model and act as a hobby on the side, not as a career. I’m too busy with my job as a brain surgeon.
Okay, okay . . . so I model for the before pictures of weight loss plans and act like I know what I’m talking about when it comes to sports. Hey, I still model and act! And so what if my brain operations consist of me killing brain cells while consuming mass amounts of alcohol!!!
@ PolyMom
Both my parents went to Maui High too. I was going to ask what year, but…………:-)
any one in the market for nike shoes?
@219 Polymom: Patsy Mink was an exordinary woman. She was my UH (undergraduate) business law teacher. Friendly adversary when I was Ad-Ass to Sparky and always was irritated when I called her Sensei though she was only a couple of years older than me.
we might end up with our full complement of 25 new recruits for this coming season.
how about a 6’6″ guy?
another ilb?
and where is that shane “kamuela boy” brostek?
Yes, Polymom. Thank you.
a wr?
6’3″ 4.35
just asking.
ST- Is that implying that some players are transferring? I think we have two many QB and slot recievers
Circle of Honor….do not know how you get there….but if the list above is accurate…2 people come to mind…Jim Kalili…..Charlie Aiu…..both drafted Charlie played couple of years. That is not the point….people none finer….human beings none finer….teamates none finer….Warriors none finer. I remember sitting in Charlies driveway eating steaks marinated in rock salt drinking Primo….his Grandmother in the house singing….playing the Uke…..no finer teammate, no finer friend no finer rep of the team and its culture. I will never forget Jim who said few words nor Charlie….I am a better person for them….Circle or Honor? Circle of lifetime respect—-
Coach Chow on Petros and Money show
http://www.foxsportsradio.com/pages/petrosandmoneyplayer/mediaplayer.html
Thanks Polymom for the cookies!
I know there are all kinds of recruiting rules, but are committed recruits (I guess oral only at this point) allowed to lobby fellow recruits?
I guess it would be kinda neat if some of the local boys who chose to stay lobbied Brostek to stay home too.
from the interview on the petros and money show:
coach chow has confidence in graves and is looking to him as being the guy this upcoming season.
240 . . . thanks for posting that. That is quite an endorsement.
ST, Al, I’m only guessing, but if my guess is correct, wow, not that would be a very nice “dish”. Hmm, I always liked Benihana.
UH plays Montana in BracketBusters game. Why do we participate in this if the game isn’t going to be televised? What’s the use?
http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/138365024.html?id=138365024
just because it’s not televised doesn’t mean it has no use.
This is the interview that Coach Chow did with the LA radio station
http://www.am570radio.com/player/?station=KLAC-AM&program_name=podcast&program_id=petrosmoney.xml&mid=21775105
cheepono- I agree he does have confidence in Graves but I still think it should be an open competition. I would keep an eye on Cayman Shutter to turn some heads
ST, Al and Buffoman,
I like tappanyaki but don’t understand why Benihana??? Help! 🙂
cp – don’t think it helps the RPI and it’s a road game. Who wants to go to Montana in the middle of February?
Likewise, just because it is on television doesn’t mean it has a purpose.
Traveling to Missoula in February?? Yikes. If it had to be a Big Sky school why not Portland State or Sacramento State?
Notice that lots of the linemen recruits are already Bi…GGG and Ta…LLL! Noticeable difference from the past.
No need feed them cake noodles to fatten them up.
Hope they are quick, flexible and strong. Go Warriors!
Man what’s up with the code words?? What’s happening at benihanas??
ESPN, did not do the Basketballers any favors, by having them play Montana. Not an easy place to get to. Probably have to fly into Seattle, then catch a flight to Missoula, from there fly to El Paso, bus to New Mexico St., then head over to La Tech. What a road trip that will be.
Not sure what the RPI is with Montana, but if it is useless like JM says AND it’s not national TV exposure for UH, AND its an away game then what is the point?
BB teams plays in Missoula on Sat 2/18, then in Las Cruces on Thurs 2/23. It might take them that long to get there!
Been to Missoula, in February, the Basketballers will be lucky if their flight to Missoula is not delayed due to weather conditions. Hope they remember to bring alot of warm clothing with them. Weather can be in the single digits that time of year.
Hmm. Should I have said Fantastic Sam’s instead?
More clues Stephen…keep then coming as I try to crack your code 🙂
With 85 scholarships, the breakdown that typical colleges (non run & shoot) would be happy with:
QB – 4
HB – 4
FB/H Back – 4
C – 4
G – 7
T – 7
TE – 4
SE – 4
SB/FL – 4
S – 7
CB – 7
ILB – 7 (w/ 3-4 Base)
OLB – 7
DL – 10
P – 1
K – 1
U – 3 (Coaches choice – extra RB, OL, Receiver, DB, P/K, etc.)
Will be interesting to see if coaching staff will have to pare down some returning scholarship players.
Good luck to whichever SA writer goes on that road trip to Missoula, NMSU, and La Tech.
Clues clues hmmmmmm
Benihana= Chop Chop Cut Cut
Hmm fantastic sams and benihana…..lol
Thanks for the link stretch. Good interview by nc. Can’t wait for call the coach with nc soon.
Thanks Pipp!!
I kept thinking which recruit is connected to Benihana’s or Fantastic Sam’s! My one track mind is thinking additions and not subtractions.
I’m a bit confused, but enjoying the encryption in ST’s messages. Fantastic Sam’s, “a little off the top, please?” With both, one usually comes away satisfied.
Wild guess:
Benny hana hou = Another player from Kahuku? Maybe a “rebounder”?
wow…all I can say is NC is all about business…so hope these players treat it as such and don’t miss any mandatory meetings or workouts…

I don’t get all the code words and hints. I’m just hoping that Shane will decide to become a Warrior. With Shane on board, in addition to all of the talent already committed, this recruiting class has a chance to become legendary.

ST, your car is being towed away, according to the Animals.
nick januska picks colorado state.
Benihana slices, Fantastic Sam cuts, 85 scholies allowance – get the unpleasant picture?
lb sometimes an acronym for linebacker.
lb sometimes an acronym for long beach.
pick one,
Yah for Laka Laka. Can they stop the plane and keep Fairbain in Hawaii.
Aloha to you all. Busy, wishing you all the best.
so there wasn’t enough room for both januska and fiso? if a = b and b= c then i hope that means fiso is on board.
I wonder why no news of De’Jon Coleman, that kid is interested in UH!
He is a HB, i believe we could use him, he isn’t getting any looks from anyone. He is interested in 3 WAC schools, 1 Pac 12 and 2 MW schools. UH is one of his interests. GET HIM!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuIjdzEMDFs
damn out of contention for sean draper. down to iowa, louisville, and pittsburgh.
288…yup, not surprised on that one. the distance of our lake is too wide for some to venture.
Maybe their to big to fail, but there not to big to wail.tera gold
#286 how does that kid not have any other offers?! every run for the first 6 minutes is a TD!
It’s suey time.
Did we get Sam (Fantastic Sam) Awrabi?
When it comes to “cuts” and “Benihana”, when ST and AL speaks, often you have to listen to what they are not saying.
It’s the old riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but there is a key.
AL – drop me an e-mail – what’s the key?
Was it Sam or Salamo?
#286: Is he a qualifier? (Hows’ his grades/test scores?)
Chow getting close to his recruitment limit, probably will not hear anything until Brostek and Fiso decide.
Go, Warriors!
Go, coaches!
Whoo-hoo!!!
Nytal.
300!
283: I’ll take both. Glad his mom agreed.
@286 Wow.
301: Does that mean Fiso has committed to the Warriors. 😀
303:
Come on Brostek, join the fun, be a Warrior.
Brostek, I know you want to play in the NFL, let Uncle Chow help you get there.
Chop Chow?
Wow why has no one offered dajon Allen yet? That kid is ridiculous! #286, how did you come to find out about him? There has to be some reason why as to nobody offered him. That kid runs like a beast on steroids!
if you had da skills, but had to choose a business adviser, who would you pick?
if wuz me, i’d pick someone like dad. Dr. Chow. no ifs, ans or butts.
and you can tell dat Coach Chow is not waiting for nobody. He is all business.
Go Coach. Go Warriors!
change of pace …
Portland State: Sources tell us former Yale defensive coordinator Ikaika Malloe will join the Portland State staff. We hear he will likely work with the special teams.
from the football coaches hiring blog.
Coach Chow’s credo.
do your job.
do it right.
do it 100%.
and if you don’t, he’s worse den Donal Trump.
You’re Fired!
talk about da motivation factor.
Is there any way we can get Chow and staff to take a look at Dajon Allen’s highlight film? Just so weird how no one has offered that kid. Unless he has some sort of issues, that kid should definitely be offered. No doubt about it.

Welcome to da Warriors young man. Welcome welcome welcome.
Listen to da Coach. He means all of us, including you, well. very well.
MattyBoy is right.
De’jon Allen’s highligte video is AWESOME.
DE’JON ALLEN. must be grade issues. because dat brudda is speedy. freaky quick through the holes. maybe coaches think get too many Allen on da team.
he’s definitely worth talking about. but i’d radda talk about Kamuela Shane. 😀
#308 Mattyboy Hawaii offered to Dejon Allen and he committed to Hawaii on Sunday.
Draper is out
Com’n on Now….(Carter of ESPN) calling pro bowl a fluke?
Welcome to the Warriors Mike Milovale! At a time when you should feel football starved…Chow keeps throwing an appetizer here and there…:)
Some get Coach Chow Marshaun Coprich’s Highlight Video….
#327 pretty sure they mean De’Jon Coleman
I’m so sorry yes I meant Dejon Coleman. So sorry for the confusion
Be wary of Boise St. They just “raided” Oregon St of one of their Grey Shirt players (just like they did to us not too long ago).
Fantastic Sam= Great linebacker who plays the SAM position.
BIK
MattyBoy
I’m pretty sure you mena De’jon Allen, da speedy running back from Arieta HS. das who was on da video. not Dejon Allen, da big brudda who committed over the weekend.
Did you see Dejon Allen’s face? imagine him across da line from you? dat is da look of domination up above. no doubt about it.
Welcome Dejon Allen. welcome welcome to Hawaii.
I’ve read a few posts about how recruiters would need to “talk to papa Brostek,” as though Bern himself is making the decision. Word is actually that he is rather hands off and it is all on Shane to make his choice.
Now yes, Bern is a famous UDub alumnus. But speaking as a parent, don’t you think Bern would love to see his boy stay and play for the home team? Any parent will tell you, it’s hard putting them on the plane.
BIK
About Dejon Coleman….
Not sure, his size is very deceptive. He is fishing for schools, i wonder if he took a trip here yet…. the schools have shown interest in him but have not made any offers to him yet. He has only visited San Jose ST and New Mexico State and Washington ST.
I know nothing of his grades, i came about him just rummaging through players who have not chosen a school and saw he was very interested in UH.
If the recruits keep their word, no doubt about it, Coach Chow will keep his word. He will coach them to the tippy top of their game, individually, and as a team.
Coach Chow is a no fool around kinda guy. I don’t know how many times I’ve said this, but I’ll say it again because it bears repeating.
We are sooooo lucky to have Coach Chow as our leader. all of us. Governor included.
Jim Donovan included. we all gotta back up Coach Chow. even da Punahou Mafia. and da St. Louis Mafia. and da Kahuku Mafia. and da Big Island Mafia. you get da idea. heck, we all gotta back him up.
and yeah, we need a fight song. to da tune of a Glock. 😀
Hello! This is my first visit to your blog! We are a team of volunteers and starting a new initiative in a community in the same niche. Your blog provided us valuable information to work on. You have done a wonderful job!
Talofa, Milovale!
ST, how is your auto, hope you not hitching home.
Haha…funny that people are still trying to figure out the fantastic sam’s and benihana subliminals…
Word on the street is that Tom Olds is one of the players cut. Can anyone confirm or deny. Or at least confirm or deny that they are cutting players
Coach Chow,
No scade um, go get um!
We got yo back!
Mahalo,
State of Hawaii
337…BIK… You’re right about Bern. He wanted Shane to enjoy the recruiting experience. Something else about Bern… When he was in the NFL he lived on the cheap and saved up his money so that he could retire in peace. He still lives simple. So, I think you’re right that he’d prefer not to have to fly to the mainland to watch Shane play. But, its going to be Shane’s decision.
ST pretty much confirmed they were “benihana-ing” players earlier today (which opens up more schollies).
I am sure it was hard to let some players go. But it might be the best for both parties. It is not high school football anymore, D I football is no joke but it is still hard to let a young man go. Good luck to anyone who moves on. I hope there is no ill will toward UH
Olds is OK.
There was a Susan Sarandon moment.
al,
You’re giving everyone a migraine with your “subterranean” messages. We’re busting our limited number of brain cells trying to decipher what’s going on. My head hurts so much I think it’s time to eat some ice cream.
So, is it true that players are being cut? If so, that should get everyone’s attention.
Whoa! Chris Tanaka gave props to ST for breaking the news about Lakalaka. Good job, ST…you had quite a busy day yesterday. Chasing around 17/18-year-olds, then covering that lame game in your cushy digs at the stadium. 🙂
ST I don’t get it about the Susan Sarandon moment. I must have missed that movie that she acted in.
I’ve decided to see what I want to see, thus interpretation of Stephen’s latest comment:
opposite of Olds is Ok = News is Great.
Susan Sarandon = SS = Shane AND Salamo
or does he just mean is car (olds) is ok but he almost drove it over a cliff (Thelma and Louise).
PP,
Yep. Saw Tanaka(?) give Stephen the credit on the earlier broadcast as well.
ST,
Any news on Fanaika? You think we get chance? This recruiting class is looking Pretty good. It would even better to have someone like Fanaika as well as Fiso.
Every so often a player will self-Benihana.
Hara-hana?
Beni-kiri?
you guys are tripping me out on here tonight. and I aint even smoking
some of you are still in a lurch…
benihana = known for its teppan yaki style of food preparation/presentation
fantastic sam’s = a well know chain of hair trimming services.
starting to get a feel for it now…both establishments use a common implement to ploy their trade.
get it?
got it?
goooooood.
…alex pacheco, hilo, hawaii
Haha….Tanaka(?). Okay, I get it. Ah, the 9 p.m. news is the first news of the day for me.
kev-1,
In my neighborhood you can just wait til HFD comes to your neighbor’s house and start inhaling! 😈
ewa…try this one
olds = thomas olds freshman olineman.
ewa (355) – ST does not drive an OLDS, but his auto is old, and it did get towed.
The Blog Host no longer drives an old towed?
Some people need someone to do their toll return, some don’t. Some people trouble an substitute to facilitate them obtain or supply a house, some don’t. It’s that simple.
😕
d1 . . . that stuff on the news was in your neighborhood? Or am I misinterpreting your post?
ST: You mean a Susan Sarandon moment as in her film Dead Man Walking?
So far what i got is Susan Sarandon went to Benihana’s and got her hair done. My decoder ring is broken.
d1shima (365) – Are you saying, the Blog Host, is following Coach Chow’s steps, and having his neighbor drive him to work? 🙂
I’m guessing the player involved got a warning…and was as close to being a dead man walking as can be…
rz…(and for gigi if she is still lurking) the teppan cooks at benihana use knives to “cut” the steaks, shrimps, etc.
the hairdresser’s at sam’s use scissors to “cut” your hair.
Yes!
(you folks figure out who 😆 )
If I am reading “al” correctly, it seems Coach Chow has gotten a few surprise commitments he was not counting on, and needs to make room for those commitments, so he is cutting some players currently on scholarship.
the message i got was that somebody did get cut perhaps one or two.
is it just me or is there an uncanny physical resemblance between papa brostek and shane brostek with brock lesnar? distant cousin perhaps? lol.
Is Coach Chow instituting a NO long hair policy. 🙄
steve…not quite. it seemed to me that they already may have more than they have room for this year including a rebounder or transfer or two. the greyshirt list was/is forming already.
in the meantime, team rules were laid down that needed to be adhered to as well maintaining the academic standards to be eligible. the subliminal message i got was/is that one or two guys may have crossed the border on these issues or some may be leaving by their own free will., these things are common place all across the nation.
its not that chow is cutting kids to make room for his own recruits.
Thanks, Dexter. It’s a genial blog! Can there be too much golf?
chow is a man of great character and would not employ such a tactic.
375:
(#353) Powder Puff:
You know, I’ve been thinking for a long time, and honestly I don’t know or understand the proper protocol. But it seems to me Mr. Tanaka (Hawaii News Now) in general (sports anyway), almost always takes what our Mr. Tsai reports, verbatim most of the time, and rarely gives credit.
Nice to see our blog leader finally get credit.
Since we’re talking, I often see Mr. Leahey (KHON) “borrow” some of the same information. But again, I don’t know or understand the proper protocol.
Been noticing!
hope the players are all catching z’s. they got a team meeting at 6 am tomorrow!
Times are good…surf’s up!
Je ne peux qu’approuver tout ce que je viens de lire ! Cordialement
Merci d’avoir lu tout. chaleureux
al will that affect UHs apr?
Wonder what the Blog Host will write about in tomorrow’s SA, since the Pro Bowl is over and gone. Will it be about some surprise commitments, or what players have left the program? 😉
“They don’t look like soldiers. They don’t act like soldiers. Why the hell should they expected to fight like soldiers?”
Quote from General George Patton upon taking over II Corps in the North African Campaign during WW II.
Old School Dave – So rightfully said. Could Coach Chow be General George Patton, reincarnated.
Old School Dave – Coach Chow’s saying, “If they do not look like football players. They don’t act like football players. Why the hell should they expect to play like football players.”
Bleed Green & White…I honestly don’t know either. Maybe in an attempt to do the journalistic thing in quoting and attributing sources, they’re finally realizing their source is ST! The TV guys probably don’t see ST (or S-A) as a competing news outlet, so it’s okay to attribute their source as ST. But yes…nice to see him mentioned for his hard work. Getting excited for Wednesday!!!
Steve — are you a recent new blogger or are you “Steve” from last year? I think recent, but please confirm. Welcome to the blog if you are!
392…you’re quoting chow verbatim?
New, or recent.
rz…only if they don’t graduate
al (395) – No, just going off of what Old School Dave was saying about General George Patton’s quote. But it would not surprise me, if Coach Chow has the players dress very business-like, when they enter a Stadium. Not just the way they want to.
al, is there a certain amount of time they have to graduate?
WOW!!!
I’m really excited about what Wednesday holds for Coach Chow and the program. After reading the comments from Taliulu…
“Steven and I are really good friends,” Taliulu said. “We were talking about it. We thought it would be cool to show everyone we’re serious about Hawaii football. We can change this place around.”
I want to be witness to this change. I’m sold and have gotten back into spending my fall Saturday nights in Halawa. After all, these are exciting times.
Oh…I wasted a 400 shout out.
Steve — thanks. Over the years we have had 8 people with Steve in their blog names and two exactly = “Steve”. You are the third. When people use only first names, duplication is possible.
I presume you live in a Hawaii. If not, please tell us what city.
steve…yup. i think its five or six.
chow has already addressed game day and travel attire in team uniformed dress. he said probably not blazers. but, i am thinking either in polo or aloha attire with slacks. uniform.
many players have already commented that they are looking forward to stricter team discipline.
SteveM – I live in Hawaii. Maybe, I should change my name, and tack on the initial to my last name, as you do. Start calling myself, SteveK. Would that be better?
i’ll be listening to this as i await more official news…

al, I like that, the discipline part. From what I have seen with past UH Coaches, and I do not mean, only football, but all UH sports. The Coaches that have done well, are the ones that have been strict, and have discipline rules to follow.
406: I hope I’m feeling the right vibe. If not, oh well.
I remember SteveI. Not everyone can be fooled. 😉 Right al.
Steve — actually, we have a “SteveK” from July 2007. Not you is it? Anyway, I can differentiate by the date of first post. Use whatever you want.

There is clearly a lot to know about this
amazing stuff! thanks
J. B. Priestley: “Like its politicians and its wars, society has the teenagers it deserves.”
D1 FOOTBALL RECRUITING. Very recent history shows, no can count on any teenager making up his mind or acting rationally on Letter of Intent Day. How many times have we seen parents over-influence a prospect to go somewhere else, or seen a teenager rebel against parents and discard the alma mater, or just do something completely off the wall like say “You know I just don’t like green uniforms.” It happens every year, and its happening again this year, all over da country. UH is not immune, so until we get the signed letters in hand it is never a done deal. God Bless all UH Warrior recruits.
Extremely good post.Really thank you! Will read on…

Whos this De’jon Colemen someone was talking about? Did we offer him?
No offers yet….
Wow his highlight video looks awesome!
People may have forgotten June cutting players when he came on board.
He was hated from that day on by several local families since several cuts were from here.
Isn’t it unreal how De’jon has no offers yet? Just weird. He definitely seems like a legit D1 running back to me.
Someone should try to email Chow and staff this kids highlights!
Good morning …it is always unfortunate when a player gets cut but normally these cuts are justified when the student/athlete is not doing the right things to keep his scholarship. I think it all depends what our new coach is expecting from our student/athletes that the current players need to adhere to.
It exciting to see what looks like a good Warrior football recruiting year. But these new Warriors are the future not this year.
Thank you!…
Awesome, I really like this post. By the way, family of mine had certain … troubles in well known matter. I pity her….
