Game (G’)Day: California
Linebacker Jerrol Garcia-Williams, safety Daniel Lewis and tight end Tui Unga won’t play today because of disciplinary reasons, according to a UH official
UH would not disclose what led to the disciplinary action or whether the three players are in Sydney.
Nick Rolovich is expected to address the situation after today’s game, the UH official said.

I hear 3 players not suited up due to disciplinary reasons, hmmmm.
Let’s go Warriors!
Howzit Tsaikos!!
Hmmmmm:
@HawaiiFootball said it will make an announcement shortly regarding three players who are not at ANZ Stadium. #hawaiifb #staradvertiser
Another loosing season!
3 players? Oh boy, I hope they didn’t do something too bone-headed… That does not sound good…
Howzit tsaikos! It’s been a while. Glad to have Hawaii football back. Gobows!
Ugh: Per Stephen, Jerrol Garcia-Williams, Daniel Lewis, Tui Unga are not at the game because of disciplinary reasons
Jerrol Garcia-Williams, Daniel Lewis, Tui Unga are not at the game because of disciplinary reasons, per UH #hawaiifb #staradvertiser
So who isn’t playing? Left me hanging ST.
What a bunch of lolos.
Forget them, start the college season w/ a huge upset. Make Hawaii proud, Warriors!
Next man up!
Good thing get 105 players on the trip.
Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t all three of them starters?
Unga is a sometimes starter… but the other two definitely hurt the team’s chances.
44.
Way more of a concern losing Williams and Lewis than Unga
Its a great day Tsaiko’s,
Does anyone know what happened to the 3 guys.
GO WARRIORS!!!
Go Warriors!
Sigh, it’s disappointing but don’t let that ruin game day… Kickoff coming up!!!!!
1420 coverage starting. Leading with Cal personnel losses. They just alluded to the Hawaii personnel to be held out of today’s game.
So who’s next man up? Andrew James-Ho for Unga; Ikem Okeke for Garcia-Williams; Keala Santiago moving up to back-up to Austin Gerard? Guess we’ll know soon enough.
Maybe the three are being held out to be fresh for the
game at Michigan…
Ipu Man…
LOL— I like the thinking…
Disappointing news. Oh well, in football there’s no crying over spilled milk.
Weather looks good with clear skies from what I’ve noticed,
According to Curran, not only are the three players not at ANZ Stadium, they’ve been sent back to Honolulu. Rolo’s gotta set the tone for discipline.
Also, Stubblefield has a knee injury and won’t play, according to Curran.
Defense
Yikes… One minute in and we’re down a TD…
Track star turns on his burners…
Yea, first down!
Camera takes the pic…
Still the same.
Well I already like the offense better than last years…. But man, was that throw into triple coverage?
Man, shades of 2015. Early yet, but not looking good.
Hey, UH Defense held ’em.
9 yard Saint Just gain 🙂
Another first down by Saint Just and another
by qb pass. UH is Rolling… 🙂
We have an offense again!
Touch Down Hawaii!
WOOHOO!!!
All American Kemp TD!!! 🙂
Sorry guys, I’m gonna be posting a lot. Staying in to watch the game…
TD…83 yard drive !!! Whoa, now that drive looked good.
Here we go boys! Nice looking drive! #PlayWarrior
Great play!
SJ looks a lot stronger.
WOOO!!!!
#2!
Touchdown that is
That run was nasty
SJ scores with Ikaika blocking.
Stiffen up defense ! Shucks, down to 12 yard line before I could post. Okay, now stiffen up.
Gotta stop giving up such good field position. Give our D a chance. Go Warriors!
4th and 3 … Go for it? What would a riverboat gambler do?
So far game Hawaii game plan is 10 times better than the last 4 yrs
Go Bows!!!!! Kemp’s (?) footwork on first TD was super. Definitely seeing some bright spots so far.
Great throw by Woolsey!
Anyone else reminded of the USC game in 2010?
Skill players need to step up their game. The oline is doing a real good job. Ikaika has a lot of time to throw.
UH stopped Mohammed to force punt.
UH Defense is greater than him 🙂
This will be just a super season…..if comparing to last season training camp n practices leading up to the first battle….
Nothing negative me has seen so far from the lower campus n or AD or coaches…..ie…. no checks…sleep on cots… no money…maybe shut down football n on n on it went…
We have now a coach who has shown….. PRIDE N ONE TEAM CONCEPT ….WHICH WAS SO SORELY MISSED LAST FEW YEARS…before he announced the starting QB….”We will address the team first….with the announcement…then the media….imagine last few years…..as a player to find out what was going on with the team….they got the info from the media first…
Hope all this positive vibes are a prelude to heads up play from all…..both players n coaches…..is very optimistic here that the plane ride back home will be one of jubilation n cheer…..with more plane rides with the same celebration
in weeks to come….IMUA
Strange penalty secretly called after I posted…
Leaping Penalty
Leaping to block a kick may be illegal under Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1(q) of the NFL rules. Article 1 of Section 3 lists all acts that the NFL considers to be unsportsmanlike conduct, which includes, “Running forward and leaping in an obvious attempt to block a field goal or (extra point) …” Players lined up within 1 yard of the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped are exempt from the leaping penalty. The NCAA has a similarly worded rule that applies to college football, although the college penalty is considered a personal foul.
oops 4 got…..free ewliko he he he
Stupid leaping penalty. Who decided that and why.
Big name teams who don’t want to lose to little giant killers…
I want to see the alleged leap on replay.
Tackling is just horrible.
New coaching staff. Same old team.
Great first quarter, offensively and defensively, but seemed to stall in the second. Will be interesting to see second half adjustment. Hope Rolo figured out those third-quarter blues.
Much more entertaining than Chow ball.
Tackling is horrible cause the defense has been on the field forever. Onside kick to start the game was idiotic.
Well, penalties killed us in first half.
So same qb I predict.
Saint Just was great. Kemp, too.
Even Ewliko looked good—just one bad bump.
Defense was good until that bad leap call.
How to pep up the team? Score. Score. Score.
Team overall looks better but this is embarrassing
A maybe leaping penalty and a fumble threw things into disarray for Hawaii. The offense was competing fine for most of the half.
They seem so much better but these dumb turnovers and penalties are killing us…
Frustrated by mistakes, but could the ESPN announcers talk about THIS game, and not go on and on about next week’s games.
It almost seems like they hit a mental breakdown at the leaping call. Which hurts because the defense stayed on the field for a very long time after the leap call, Ewaliko fumble, 3 and out.
They need to dig deep and focus on the little things.
They scored that many points quick. I always told players when I coached that if we do what we are supposed to, then we could score points quickly as well.
I really expected more. But they look last last year’s Warriors. Let’s see if Rolo can wake them up to play good, disciplined football. And I bite my tongue, but it slipped out. Maybe a new quarterback should start the second half, just to see if a change can wake up the offense. I don’t know what to say about the secondary.
With 4 minutes to go in the second quarter, the score was 14 – 20 … Hawaii down by 6. Keeping the wheels from coming off again in the second half is key. I believe it is doable though. Hawaii gets the ball though. http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=139756
Our dline pau.
Yup…D-line looks pau
Lakalaka is back!
Lakalaka!
Loving what i see from the oline and running backs.
So many good field possession we gave them during kickoff it’s ridiculous.
Need kicker who can reach the endzone.
We’re lacking depth on defense. O-line looks good! Offense is sustaining drives a lot better than last year.. Overall our team is playing as I expected. I think if we can clean up the turn overs and if our defense can force some turnovers we’ll be ok. Go Warriors!
Well, it could be that the Cal kick returner, Muhammad (starting RB), runs a 10.5 100 and is a member of the Cal track team.
great QB sack; first great pressure on their QB since the first quarter. Hope Meffy’s injury not serious; we need all the DL help we have! Can we pick up a huge Aussie DL on this trip–not more punters.
me like what you say warrior nation…..
yes; speed kills. But maybe we need a better setup on the return team?
The team is hanging in there; not quitting like last year.
Another turnover SMH..
Lakalaka should be right behind St. Juste in the next game as far as depth.
I agree we need a kickoff kicker that can get past the endzone.
A break goes Hawaii’s way.
Hopefully they can learn from this game and tweak the approach on the next game. Players did well but some iffy play calling.
We still need a lot of work to do. Defense still gets torched when we can least afford it.
I am a fan and look forward to a good time watching this team. Looking forward to seeing them at Michigan.
I did expect to see a little more passing from UH. Hope our players & coaches can learn & build off this game. We need to get one more TD on offense
Michigan is going to pummel us. This team has a lot of holes to fill.
Overall, slightly more exciting brand, but then again there hasn’t been football in months.
Would like to see Sanchez just do field goals and punts only. Have someone else kickoff.
We definitely don’t have as many drop passes. Kudos to our receivers for putting in that extra work
Great run Paul Harris…
He didn’t give up!
Hawaii will be battle tested, Michigan will not be. Play basic football in the next game, not so much long passes and we’ll be good. Our running is on point and so is passing. Special teams needs to be worked on.
C’mon defense!! Don’t let them score again!!
Tackling remains an issue. They need to improve this part of the game or it will really look bad against Michigan.
Am i the only one Shocked we scored over 30 lol
3 different rbs with tds.
Glad cal didn’t score at the end, I thought they were.
Well…..not shocked but still a little disappointed. Defense seemed less stout than I hoped. But without KT and with the pre game loss of the naughty boys I guess it should not be a surprise. O-line and running game were strong. So was pass protection. I worry about Michigan coming with major beef early that pummels our defensive front seven in the first quarter and has us so beaten up and exhausted that we will have nothing left early. I just hope this insane early schedule doesn’t leave us so injured and demoralized that we can’t rise up when league play starts.
The worse part of the game was giving Cal field possession on 4 kickoffs, maybe 5, on the 40 yard line or better.
No more run, run, pass punt. At least Hawaii can score now. If they can get better on defense, I think the W’s will eventually return to Hawaii football.
Hawaii played hard to the end.
We scored 31 points!!!
It’s early so this doesn’t mean much but UH looked better last year against Ohio State.
This was the first game in a long time where there was a feeling of hope when Hawaii had the ball.
Now if they can cut down on errors and improve on defense, they will win.
Yep! 31 points.
Played well in spots, but als played badly with turnovers an the same dumb penalties that hurt us with Chow. We are going to have to cut Rolo some slack because we still have problems that are not his fault– no pass rush from dline– too slow off the ball, nod dline depth, defensive backfield has one good player but rest were too slow and out of position. Tackling was an issue alla round on D. On O too many dropped passes but Woolsey, the oline, and running backs played well. Give Rolo time to recruit and get his players in and we will be more competitive.
Wahine Volleyball 0-2 against Wisconsin. Set 3, Shoji puts in Iosia at setter. Guess what, Wahine playing great. Win Set 3 26-24. The quarterback makes a difference.
Great effort today clean up the mistakes, the poor tackling and kick off cover
and we should be okay for conference games Will lose to the two powerhouse teams but the sky is the limit after that
Great Job Guys
Turning point of the game: In the 2nd quarter, when our D held them but then #44? was called for jumping during Cal’s punt; and the ball went back to Cal. We were only down 17-14 at that point; but Cal got the ball back; drove down the field; our D held them to a FG but that seemed to tire our D. Then our ensuring fumble on the kickoff return, really took the air out of the momentum of the game; as Cal quickly scored a TD; and the rout was on. Our D really needs to improve on their tackling; and we really need to find pass rushers! Would have liked to see what our other QB’s can do when the game was out of reach–we need to find out how they can perform in a real game situation–we all know what Ikaika can do at this point.
Wow…what an interesting game! Seems we were right in the thick of things and then the wheels came off. Still saw some good things.
Some players need to start thinking TEAM.
Oline impressed me. Most improbed. CN got them running good.
DL, needs some work and some help from the O. O looked improved.
Free who? Me thinks KE needs to go over to the defense. When he touch the ball not too many good things happen. He might be better suited on the defensive side of the ball. With his speed, might make a good DB.
Turnovers and mental mistakes kills.
Anyhoo, snap and clear. Time to start think Michigan or else.
Rb’s looking good. St. Juste, Harris and especially Lakalaka,
One of the keys for me was play with Discipline…unfortunately that went by the wayside before the game started. These guys need some laps around the field.
What was up with that punt penalty that cost us? That was some horse manure.
I think Hawaii played pretty damn well for the first game. Yeah we can go back and say that turnovers killed us and penalties but this was way more exciting to watch then what we had the previous years. Remember how bad we lost at home to a bad USC team in June Jones first game as HC. I think this team has a promising season ahead and lots of talent on offense. MWC Champs. Calling it and I don’t care what anyone says or thinks.
Might want to try someone else on kickoff returns after that costly fumble.
Flashbacks of Norm Chow’s first game. All the fans had their positive optimism for the future. My take: it’s going to be another long season! Go Bows!
ST – We were right. Warriors suck . Lost again
Cal is a far superior opponent to Colorado.
Any other school would schedule a bye week after a trip to Australia.
Except Hawaii.
50%. I’ll take that. Before last year, I didn’t think it was possible to throw under fifty percent week after week. Ikaika Woosley looked decent. B-.
A. Zwhalen to play in Michigan game COUNT ON IT.
Starter won’t play the whole game after the lopsided first half.
What you say! coach
151 jT: You would know that after one game? Glad to see we have a real life psychic in the house.
Yup, me too. I was flashing back to 2012. it was disappointing. Prior to the game, Rolo said the season will depend on whether the players can respond after mistakes because mistakes will happen. No finger pointing. No laying blame. Certainly, this game will test the team’s resolve to eliminate the errors and play as a team. And there was enough good things they did to build on, but I wonder what their mental state will be.
Oh what could have been with KT, Lewis, JGW on Defense and Unga on offense.
Moral victory today. Good Night Sydney.
Hoped for more-tons of good things. Mistakes, turnovers, poor tackling-all correctable. Very optimistic for the balance-
Hmmmmn, I thought they were right there for a moment.
Three areas were glaring:
Ball security;
Dismal and underperformed kickoff returns; and
Slants, of any depths, were available on most all instances last night.
On the other hand, what was noticeable on the positive:
Solid o line play;
Variety of effective running backs;
Kicking game seems solid, and
Team temperament is much better.
Overall, I remain optimistic, and there is plenty of things to build upon….I give last nights performance a C+/B-.
Was in Vegas and the odds makers are A++++ on the game
Wow, UH scored a bunch!
If Cal didn’t have the refrigerator 300 pound back
and the track star, UH would have won, I think.
🙂
Hope the coaches and UH upper campus
don’t penalize the players who were naughty.
Sheeeeesh—enough already. Let kids be kids.
HOPE…
H is for Hawaii
O is for Offense
P is for no Penalties
E is for Effort
Michigan is going down 🙂
Lot’s of promise in this team. The other posters have summed up the game pretty well. RB’s are talented, O-line held their own and Ikaika looked like he belonged out there. I really liked the look in his eyes as he lined up over center.
Defense has its work cut out, but I think they’ll get better as the season goes.
At this point, as long as the Warriors keep working hard and don’t get down on themselves, I think they will do well in games to come.
#167 … I don’t get the impression that coach Rolovich is the overreacting type. He comes across in interviews as thoughtful and measured.
Overall, if the great eye doctor of football were to ask .. “better or worse”, I would say “much better”. I have hope. We did not win one conference game last year. And we only won 3 conference games during the 2014 season (Wyoming, UNLV, SJSU) … the most ever under the previous coach. By the end of this year’s Homecoming game against UNLV, coach Rolovich might just have equaled that.
“Hope the coaches and UH upper campus
don’t penalize the players who were naughty.
Sheeeeesh—enough already. Let kids be kids.”
Ipu Man, no. They’re not kids. They’re actually college aged adults and one of them is a senior. If the infraction is major, they should be held accountable and disciplined. If it’s minor, then it’s minor. Let’s have some perspective here: these men represent the university in the most visible sport in the nation. Standards should be high.
Hana pa’a, I wonder who is Rolo’s latest catch…
Guud Morning Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!
Lots of things to work on for the next game.
Oline was bright spot for me. Did a good job for our stable of eunning backs. RB’s proved to be elusive and powerful.
IW did a credible job.
D needs to get better in hurry.
Special teams…not so special. Need some work.
KE might be better suited on defense. Use his speed there. Peeps have been asking to free him up but hasn’t proved ball security is a concern with him and also needs better decision making on kick offs. He’ll be one to watch. Will be making plays once he settles down.
Overall feeling good about this team. Brutal early schedule should have been for later in the season but what da heo…jump in the fire early!
IMUA WARRIORS!
I agree the tackling was very bad. That’s something hopefully we can correct before we hit the “Big House”. Harbaugh is going to stuff the run down our throats then hit us with the pass as soon as we stack the box to stop the run. I felt bad for the secondary because our D-Line applied no quarterback pressure. Webb had all day in the pocket…looked like a stature back there. The secondary can only stick with their man for so long. If we don’t apply QB pressure look for the same results if not worse in Michigan. D-Coordinator needs to implement some stunts, blitzes, something to help the back end out. LBs also need to do a better job of filling the lanes. Cal’s running backs torched the middle of the field all game. Let’s regroup fellas and go to Michigan and put up a much better effort…ESPECIALLY THE TACKLING!!!
KE should play wide reciever.
He runs a great Go route and
would open up under routes.
Lets get the next win!!!!
North Dakota state
What makes them so good.
They recruit locally?
Rollo should copy them.
Yup, tackling was not stellar. Especially, when their QB carried our safety 4 yards into the endzone–safety had an angle on him, and even broke down on him…that was not a bright spot.
I thought the 4th down leaping penalty epitomized how games can turn on a mental mistake and Cal’s last play of the first half highlighted our poor tackling – one guy missed the QB around the five and another hit him around the two and a half but couldn’t keep him out of the end zone. If either guy makes the stop time would have run out Cal had no timeouts left. It was disheartening to score then to have Cal start close to their forty or beyond every time we kicked off.
I thought our team looked like they’re still learning how to win. Mental errors can be be fixed, poor tackling can be fixed, kickoff coverage can be fixed. We don’t seem to have a team ethos of everyone buying into what Rolo has been preaching. All the consistent winning football program have a team ethos whether it be the Patriots, Boise, or Kahuku. The coaches, players, support staff and fans all gotta buy in to what Rolo has been preaching – Live Aloha, Play Warrior….until this happens we’ll still be learning how to win.
Tackling seems to be a lost art. If you watch the NFL these days, the tackling pales in comparison to what we witnessed years ago. These young men are more focused on trying to lay the hard lick and not focusing on wrapping up. Don’t get me wrong, we want the physicality, but it means absolutely nothing if you don’t finish…WRAP UP!!! I agree that the QB driving our safety into the endzone was hard to watch.
Morning Tsaikos!
ST, any info?
Before we take off, one big time Hana Pa’a to take with us. #DownUnderBigBoy
Surprised to read JGW and Unga didn’t even make it down to Australia.
Offensive line play was good. Ikaika had lots of time to throw. Collapsed defensive line often leading to a decent run game. Michigan will present a step up in talent with their defense.
Go Bows
Hopefully the 3 guys can play in the next game.
