Game day: Utah State

view

LOGAN β€” Sure, the Rainbow Warriors arrived at the hotel at 2:35 this morning, and who knows when they got to go ne-ne. But this is truly a game day, one of the few early-afternoon ones.

Cool weather, 2 p.m. kickoff, and newbies amazed they can see their breath.

This is why they invented football.

  10. JustAsking November 2, 2013 6:09 am

ST— Thanks for keeping us updated through all of yesterday’s events!

  11. NYUHTx November 2, 2013 6:13 am

I hope they took a dip in Manhattan Beach. Forget snow and freezing rain, it’s when you swim the Pacific from CA that you appreciate Hawaii.

  12. A-joe November 2, 2013 6:23 am

Awesome Morning, Tsaikos!! Lets give our men all the support they need!!!

Whitey, D-1, NYUHTx – good to see old blood stomping around the blog this early in the morning.

  13. NYUHTx November 2, 2013 6:26 am

Hey A-Joe. Hoping the guys suck it up today. Maybe all this will help them find another gear.

  14. UHfan808 November 2, 2013 6:31 am

    Good finally-game-day morning, Tsai-kos and Lurk-ers! ^_^

  15. Boya_jr November 2, 2013 6:41 am

Good luck Warriors! Hope you got some sleep on the plane.

  16. Stephen Tsai November 2, 2013 6:44 am

Colorado State women’s volleyball team is in this hotel. They’re tall and quiet. Funny, I never hear that about me.

  17. Stephen Tsai November 2, 2013 6:46 am

I wore a Manhattan Beach shirt around the lobby this morning. UH folks were amused.

  18. Shoko November 2, 2013 6:46 am

Good to hear the team made it to Logan.

Anyway, I figure what is perceived as a bad omen can actually turn into something positive. Predict USU’s freshman rookie quarterback has a bad game makes some bad reads that turns into a some picks.

Is that Portuguese sausage on that pizza? Nah.

  19. UHfan808 November 2, 2013 6:51 am

    58 & 59 from Thursday’s 10/31 post–

If you don’t succeed, try try again –

Yes, me hopes that, too, and even tho they had to get up almost soon as they fell asleep!

Read your post and began imagining a Jolly Green Giant and a marching band person with a tuft of black hair for their fluffy feather green hat Heeheehee but what did you end up wearing, instead?! πŸ™‚

  24. Boya_jr November 2, 2013 7:10 am

Lots of the recruits from Utah. Must be a nice homecoming, also reminder that living in Hawaii is a nice change of scenery. Might see some future recruits at the game today.

    eeeeeeeee puke pizza.

  34. cocobean November 2, 2013 7:46 am

Play for Qs like Warriors. Take care of the ball. Win 3rd D on both sides of the ball.

  35. cocobean November 2, 2013 7:48 am

    Play four Qs like Warriors.

  36. 3-Prong November 2, 2013 7:49 am

UHFan808, today they will put it all together, sleep or no sleep, no excuses!

  37. Stephen Tsai November 2, 2013 8:24 am

Logan is quite retro. Oceanic’s Steve Jackson said he expects Marty McFly to be skating by at any moment.
Logan is clean, the people are friendly, the street lanes are wide, and the view is gorgeous. But, ya know, it would be nice to have an elevator.

  38. PolyMom November 2, 2013 8:39 am

From the hotel it’s to far to the beach. And the water is still freezing right now!

First game we can watch in television. So excited!!!

Send the team good WINNING thoughts!

    GO WARRIORS!

Get busy at the office today. One more push…remember what I told you boys!!!

  39. wafan November 2, 2013 8:50 am

    Kinpira!

  40. kev-1 November 2, 2013 8:53 am

Put it all together today and you win. Will be watching, cheering, and believing.

    GO (rainbow) WARRIORS!!!

  41. Bryson November 2, 2013 9:10 am

  43. al November 2, 2013 9:19 am

    slugger….argugala?

  44. al November 2, 2013 9:22 am

lots of you were at it again yesterday. you know the usual monku monku because you guys so perfect.

well, the program doesn’t have deep pockets. the budget is one of the worst in the mwc.
put your money where your mouth is….DONATE!

    …nuff said!

  45. A-House November 2, 2013 9:38 am

    hey, al:

don’t forget to remind me to see you at the next home game to discuss our obligations!

so early and already spouting off at #44 – ha, don’t think it will make a difference!

  46. A-House November 2, 2013 9:40 am

mixed feelings or no “vibes” about today’s game – hmmm, good or bad

MasaBoy says it will be a wipe out for UH

  47. Bryson November 2, 2013 9:45 am

Thanks Al but I only have basic cable I don’t have digital…

  48. LizKauai (mbp) November 2, 2013 9:45 am

Game results aside, gamblers be dam’d…. it is the PEOPLE we CHEER FOR!!!
    GO! RAINBOW WARRIORS!!!

  49. LizKauai (mbp) November 2, 2013 9:47 am

OK. Now gonna cheer for Merv’s team.

  50. papajoe2 November 2, 2013 9:55 am

Strange. I was looking at today’s tv guide in the back of the SA’s sports pages. It says Northwestern at Nebraska at 9:30 on BIGTEN* NA/247. I hope its a misprint or they can play a game in 1/2 hour because I’m watching our Warriors to their 1st victory at 10 on 1247/247.

  51. WarriorNY November 2, 2013 10:01 am

    Enjoy the game folks…!

CBS Sports channel… Thank god, no need to stream! I can’t believe we are 25 point underdogs…

  52. WarriorNY November 2, 2013 10:11 am

    What a joke…. I can’t believe they DQ’d Jackson for that play…

  53. WarriorNY November 2, 2013 10:16 am

Bryson, I can get you a link… There may be some spam though…

  54. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 2, 2013 10:18 am

Looks like its going to be one of those games…Oh well, toodles!

  55. 99club November 2, 2013 10:23 am

    Lookin’ good Hawaii!

  56. 99club November 2, 2013 10:24 am

    FG! 7-3 them.

  57. markazulu November 2, 2013 10:29 am

The secondary is gonna have its hands ful today

  58. papajoe2 November 2, 2013 10:32 am

‘mI disappointed that we got in the red zone and then we ran the ball on 1st and 2nd down since we are one of the top running teams in the nation (sarcastic). DANG!

  59. Shoko November 2, 2013 10:33 am

USU’s got a pretty good o-line. Giving more than enough time for QB to find open receivers.

  60. markazulu November 2, 2013 10:40 am

Lakalaka has been getting some decent runs going

  61. 3-Prong November 2, 2013 10:40 am

    Defense!

  62. papajoe2 November 2, 2013 10:41 am

    Dicipline?

  63. papajoe2 November 2, 2013 10:42 am

QB is a future 1st rounder.

  64. markazulu November 2, 2013 10:43 am

Another big 3rd and long conversion πŸ™

  65. nanakuli November 2, 2013 10:44 am

Rich Miano should be our DB coach next year.

  66. markazulu November 2, 2013 10:44 am

Hawaii has only 10 guys on the field wtf

  67. markazulu November 2, 2013 10:46 am

That 3rd & 11 conversion hurt and so did that 15 yard late hit

  68. Warrior fan November 2, 2013 10:51 am

Already looking forward to next weeks game

  69. Buffoman November 2, 2013 10:52 am

Defense is not doing well. Too bad.

  70. markazulu November 2, 2013 10:54 am

Defense hasnt looked to bad against the run but the passing game is killing us

  71. markazulu November 2, 2013 10:55 am

    Pass interference WTF

  72. Warrior fan November 2, 2013 10:56 am

No PI?? When it rains it pours.. SMDH

  73. WarriorMojo November 2, 2013 10:59 am

Holy crap, that wasn’t a block in the back?!?!

  74. markazulu November 2, 2013 10:59 am

    These refs are pretty upsetting

  75. Buffoman November 2, 2013 11:02 am

When you’re losing you get no breaks. Even the announcers loving USU.

  76. oneseason November 2, 2013 11:05 am

Navy leading Notre Dame 20-17 … Navy ball about 2 minute left in the first half

  77. papajoe2 November 2, 2013 11:06 am

The camera is showing most of the field. Watch UH linebackers. They are always out of position.

  78. 99club November 2, 2013 11:09 am

Navy leading ND right now. Wow.

  79. Whats up November 2, 2013 11:09 am

The defense can’t stop anybody early in games and today it’s happening again. The Refs are giving Utah State some breaks on some calls today.

  80. Whats up November 2, 2013 11:12 am

I did say that Navy is a good team the other day and they are showing it! Like I said a few days ago, Hawaii is going to get blown out by Utah State and Navy.

  81. markazulu November 2, 2013 11:12 am

The run blocking is pretty good today

  82. Maile Tsai-Russ November 2, 2013 11:20 am

Refs are horrible. So many obvious holding infractions on USU are going unflagged.

  83. Inyoface November 2, 2013 11:22 am

Miano should be our defensive coordinator.

  84. Shoko November 2, 2013 11:23 am

    Time of possession:
    Hawaii 6:49
    USU 19:43

  85. obachan November 2, 2013 11:26 am

MWC refs AKA Make Wrong Call refs

  86. LizKauai (mbp) November 2, 2013 11:29 am

Guess it’s time to eat something…
Good game for people with low blood pressure.

  87. azwarrior22 November 2, 2013 11:32 am

Put TG in second half. SS is not a first-string QB…he’s more suited to a relief role.

  88. Inyoface November 2, 2013 11:32 am

    Talk about home field officiating!!!

  89. papajoe2 November 2, 2013 11:38 am

I liked the idea of a fake punt, but the play itself sucked! Fake handoff on a fake punt, then run the ball. I think for a fake, it is too slow developing. Once the “D” sees fake on the hand off they know its a fake punt and will not drop back.

  90. markazulu November 2, 2013 11:40 am

Hawai’i has had some big plays on offense but the defense is also giving up big plays. That 1st INT should’ve been called back because Gant was shoved and it was blatant pass interference that wasnt called. Horrible officiating not gonna discredit Utah State though they are playing a hell of a game i like there receivers

  91. kapakahi November 2, 2013 11:54 am

    Where’s JGW?

  92. Former UH Fan November 2, 2013 11:56 am

UH is truly a terrible team. I’d much rather watch prep football than whatever this is: a bunch of grown men playing something that resembles football. My suggestion is, if the defense can’t hold anybody under 80 points, then they might as well play dirty, target the head, and go for the knees so even if UH loses, at least we ruin the other team’s season.

  93. Former UH Fan November 2, 2013 11:59 am

Seriously, just take some scrubs from the practice squad, put them in the game and tell them to launch helmet to helmet at some of the starting offensive players on the other team. that way, when they get ejected, it’s no big deal, but once the other team’s best players start leaving the game because of injuries, now UH will have a fighting chance to get at least 1 win this season.

  94. markazulu November 2, 2013 11:59 am

Oh stop it now to say they should play dirty and intentionally hurt someone is ridiculous

  95. kev-1 November 2, 2013 12:02 pm

Is the defense still delayed at LAX?

  96. kev-1 November 2, 2013 12:03 pm

Good opening score by UH to start the 2nd half. Let’s hope the defense shows up.

  97. markazulu November 2, 2013 12:04 pm

I hope that td got our defense pumped up

  98. 99club November 2, 2013 12:05 pm

    C’mon Hawaii, tackle!

  99. Warrior fan November 2, 2013 12:07 pm

    Defense is…. SMH

  100. 99club November 2, 2013 12:12 pm

    Alright, hold them to FG.

  101. Former UH Fan November 2, 2013 12:12 pm

UH has a pretty good chance to win OIA red division next year though. Maybe even states, but punahou and mililani will probably be tough games for them.

  102. Inyoface November 2, 2013 12:12 pm

Kick off out of bounds didn’t help the defense. Always mistakes after we make a big play.

  103. Inyoface November 2, 2013 12:13 pm

Come on Schroeder, work your magic!!

  104. Norm Chow's Puny Anus November 2, 2013 12:16 pm

You guys won’t believe this, but I can get punier.

  105. 99club November 2, 2013 12:18 pm

    A turnover would be nice.

  106. 99club November 2, 2013 12:19 pm

    Nice stop.

  107. Minion November 2, 2013 12:20 pm

    Former UH Fan

For someone who hates UH, you still watched the game. What an absolute dumbasss. Buttfarts like you waste the space on this blog. I hope it eats you inside that Hawaii is crap! Hahahahahahahaaaa!!!

  108. Wassup November 2, 2013 12:20 pm

    D can’t stop anybody on 3rd down.

  109. 99club November 2, 2013 12:21 pm

OK, no more jinxing from TX.

  110. obachan November 2, 2013 12:21 pm

I blame George Bush for this season’s woes.

  111. WarriorNY November 2, 2013 12:23 pm

How are we this bad on 3rd down??? Sigh…

  112. MattO November 2, 2013 12:25 pm

I don’t know much, but I know that was offensive pass interference with that clear as day push-off.

  113. markazulu November 2, 2013 12:26 pm

Not gonna give up though hawaii has been on fire in the 4th quarter so we shall see what happens lol

  114. MattO November 2, 2013 12:27 pm

I take it back. We’re just awful.

  115. MattO November 2, 2013 12:28 pm

Okay I don’t take it back – but we are awful.
    The zebras aren’t helping though.

  116. Inyoface November 2, 2013 12:32 pm

    Gotta play catch up again..

  117. 99club November 2, 2013 12:32 pm

    Yesss! Get chance.

  118. WarriorMojo November 2, 2013 12:33 pm

How did I know it was going to be a FB dive after that pick?

  119. Inyoface November 2, 2013 12:34 pm

    INT!

  120. WarriorMojo November 2, 2013 12:34 pm

I knew when Woodard didn’t score we were in trouble.

  121. Inyoface November 2, 2013 12:35 pm

    Hahahahahaha wtf!!!

  122. HiFlyer November 2, 2013 12:35 pm

    WTF

  123. WarriorMojo November 2, 2013 12:35 pm

    Okay, deep breaths.

    Be a fan.

    I am.

  124. 99club November 2, 2013 12:35 pm

Navy up 34-31 over ND right now.

  125. Former UH Fan November 2, 2013 12:36 pm

minion, how do you know I’m watching the game? lol you are dumb.

  126. Inyoface November 2, 2013 12:36 pm

Thats just the way we are.

  127. kev-1 November 2, 2013 12:37 pm

When Woodard didn’t score on that INT because he can’t STEP OVER SOMEONE LYING ON THE TURF, I jokingly said “great, now the offense is going to come in and kick a field goal. But I was wrong. SS, the savior to many of you, came in and played like SS.

    This team is disgusting.

No more positivity from me today.

  128. Maile Tsai-Russ November 2, 2013 12:37 pm

Tavita makes a great interception down to the USU 5…three idiotic play calls later, USU has a 99-yd interception return for a TD the other way.
Yeah, Sean Schroeder, ‘this is a damn good team’ alright.

  129. MattO November 2, 2013 12:37 pm

    Fire everyone.

  130. 99club November 2, 2013 12:37 pm

I’m thankful for the fact that there’s beer in the fridge.

  131. HiFlyer November 2, 2013 12:38 pm

ND scores to take back the lead against Navy 34 – 37.

  132. MattO November 2, 2013 12:38 pm

I don’t even have beer. Sadness.

  133. UHfan808 November 2, 2013 12:39 pm

    36 3-prong:

They can do it, I know they can!

They need to believe they can do it too, too!

GO WARRIORS!!! BELIEVE IN YOURSELVES, TOOOOOO!!!

  134. MattO November 2, 2013 12:39 pm

    Fire our OC… Oh wait…

  135. Bigislandkurt November 2, 2013 12:39 pm

While we are in Logan, UT getting demolished, Navy playing Big Boy football against the Golden Domers.

    BIK

  136. Inyoface November 2, 2013 12:40 pm

    So sad

  137. markazulu November 2, 2013 12:40 pm

Ugh this season has me deflated lets hope we can see a few td’s put on the board at least and a few defensive stops

  138. MattO November 2, 2013 12:41 pm

Win, Navy – you’re our only hope.

  139. Maile Tsai-Russ November 2, 2013 12:41 pm

    134:

I need to drink what you are having…

  140. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 2, 2013 12:41 pm

I believe we will stop Utah State from scoring 70 points!

    I belieeeeeevveee!!!!!!!!!!

  141. Inyoface November 2, 2013 12:41 pm

I was into giving Chow another year but my thoughts are starting to dwindle.

  142. WarriorNY November 2, 2013 12:41 pm

This is depressing… Time for a shot… You guys wanna play a drinking game? Everytime we run up the middle we have to take a shot…

  143. obachan November 2, 2013 12:41 pm

    I don’t even have a fridge.

  144. UHfan808 November 2, 2013 12:41 pm

  155. markazulu November 2, 2013 12:45 pm

What happened to st juste why isnt he in the game he was moving the ball pretty good

  156. papajoe2 November 2, 2013 12:45 pm

I’ve never said it before because I never believed in it before, but coach Chow should be up in the booth. We can see soooooo much of what is going on with Utah’s wide angle TV view of the game. Some of it is soooo obvious and could be easily corrected. First half, most of the time, the middle of the defense had some huge space that USU could and did easily take of right over the middle among other things. Coach just gotta relay what’s going on to the defensive coordinator or offensive coordinator (oopps, none). He also could see how stupid some of the plays called or defensive sets we are in.

  157. Slugger November 2, 2013 12:45 pm

Keeping going, Warriors! Play the game.

    Let’s Go Bows!

  158. 99club November 2, 2013 12:47 pm

While Coach is in Utah, he needs to recruit this kid:

  159. Slugger November 2, 2013 12:48 pm

    Go UHFan808!

Think I’ll go to the NAU game tonight. Get in free to the WVB after the FB game.

  160. Chow Von Appen November 2, 2013 12:48 pm

MattO, I keep calling dive plays because I know that none of my quarterbacks can execute any semblance of a modern passing offense and that the line is too terrible to execute any other kind of run play. The runs to the outside have been adjusted for and diagnosed by the Utah State defensive coordinator by halftime. Basically, what my game plan is now is to just have the quarterback throw it up for grabs and pray that a UH receiver comes down with it.

  161. MattO November 2, 2013 12:49 pm

#157 – exactly. Example: that fake punt – you could tell straight away we didn’t have enough blockers. And yet, we still ran it. And the unblocked LB on the left did, in fact, make the tackle. We should have called a TO and either adjusted or kicked. It was ridiculous and arrogant to run that play given the look we were getting.

  162. Chow Von Appen November 2, 2013 12:50 pm

Aloha, 99club. Thank you for the recruiting suggestion. My recruiting staff will contact this fine young man right away and offer him a scholarship. With the state our offensive line is in, he could most definitely play as a true freshman and make an impact right away!

  163. MattO November 2, 2013 12:51 pm

#161 – certainly looked like it on that last series. Maybe I can drink cooking wine.

  164. 808bowler November 2, 2013 12:51 pm

    watching this is disgusting

  165. kev-1 November 2, 2013 12:51 pm

If the head coach can’t coach from the sideline and needs to be in the booth, he shouldn’t be a head coach. The booth is for coordinators, so they can relay info to the head coach. Maybe the problem is the fact that our HC is stubborn and our coaching staff is filled with brand new coaches and grad assistants.

  166. kev-1 November 2, 2013 12:52 pm

I have NEVER not wanted to watch. I am there now. I have bought into the “we are so close” BS too long.

  177. Chow Von Appen November 2, 2013 12:57 pm

Aloha MattyBoy. I understand your frustration with the way the team is playing this year, but our players and coaching staff are working hard and we are constantly moving forward and going in the right direction. To be honest, at the start of the season, we couldn’t even complete a forward pass. Now we can at least run simple plays that a halfway decent high school team can run, like a 5 yard hitch and a slant. We are also particularly good at hail mary’s (because we seem to throw them a lot). Please have patience. Imua Warriors!

  178. manoa#1 November 2, 2013 12:57 pm

sheddy azz coaches…if the boys was 100 percent behind chow they would play hard and win some games FOR HIM but the boys don’t give a dam about chow.!! FIRE HIS AZZ .!!

Graham can’t hit the side of the Koolaus.

  187. kev-1 November 2, 2013 1:01 pm

OH SNAP!!!!! The commentator just said that Chow told them he’s not sure if he’s cut out to be a head coach. NO SPIN. He said it. WTF is that?

Your own coach tells the media he is not confident in himself? Come on. Hawaii fans deserve better than that.

  188. kev-1 November 2, 2013 1:03 pm

I have never said to get rid of Chow. I’m saying it now, after hearing that.

  189. jeezy33 November 2, 2013 1:03 pm

Does anyone believe Taylor Graham still needs time to show that he is a great QB?

Or does everyone finally realize he just isn’t good……

Sorry to admit this. But we may need to drop the rainbow from our name. πŸ™‚

  191. MattO November 2, 2013 1:04 pm

I get that we’re tired from the terrible travel delays. But still…we should be tired, not flatlined.

  192. Shoko November 2, 2013 1:05 pm

I can’t imagine what’s going through the players minds, not so much the losing streak, but the way in which they are losing. Hard to keep positive when faced with those kinds of obstacles.

  193. Balko November 2, 2013 1:05 pm

As I mentioned a while back, UH hasn’t been close this season, and it wasn’t a psychological problem on UH’s part – opposing coaches have felt sorry for Chow and/or UH, and took their foot of the gas pedal in recent games. The Utah coach said in interviews prior to this game he would not replicate that error: he would continue to force the ball down the field regardless of the score (and, by implication, the embarrassment/humiliation experienced by UH/Chow).

If the Navy game is another humiliating loss I wouldn’t be surprised if Chow gets Lane Kiffined on a tarmac. Bobby Curran said last week that many high profile UH football supporters were weary of being in ESPN’s bottom ten.

And maybe its just me but the radio broadcasters seem almost blase about the performance in this game, as if there is “word on the street” that changes are afoot if the Navy game goes badly south.

  194. War-E-Or November 2, 2013 1:06 pm

I think were the worst winless team in D1. While other teams shoot themself in the foot, we shoot ourself in the foot, commit stupid mistakes and cannot execute consistently. Brah… When its all said and done… The chasing of championships is done, and so begins on how the school can keep afloat in times of high cost of living. Pay per view… It has its merrits, but that and the expense of living in paradise are what keeps the ppl from going to the stadium. How can we get back to the late 80s? Is June our savior? Will we give Miano his due after everything he has done for us as a kamaina? Is the Lee coaching family done with college coaching for good? Is there an nfl coach willing to have the balls to step up and take a huge pay cut ala jones in 99 to make us a winner again regardless of hawaii ties or not? Will the new athletic director actually pull of the impossible of getting uh out of the red?
So many things to ponder… Local ppl, kamaina… No matter what stay possitive, keep the aloha spirit going. I live in da mainland now but, even though this is a message board, keep it classy freddy blassy!

  195. obachan November 2, 2013 1:06 pm

I don’t blame the players – they put in their effort but this feels like the University of Humility.

  196. War-E-Or November 2, 2013 1:07 pm

  199. Maile Tsai-Russ November 2, 2013 1:10 pm

  200. War-E-Or November 2, 2013 1:11 pm

Omg… The commentator …. Oh boy… It just sealed it right there

  201. MattO November 2, 2013 1:12 pm

It’s just my opinion, but Chow is too smart to not realize telling broadcasters that he thinks he may not be cut out for the head-coaching job won’t make it to air. Which leads me to believe he’s already setting up his exit, whether voluntary or otherwise.

  202. RB November 2, 2013 1:13 pm

Ever notice how players have career days vs UH? Also ever since Ben Jay went back to “RAINBOWS” the “W’ is no where near. Drop the name and watch the “W” come.

  203. 99club November 2, 2013 1:13 pm

Just get a decent OC on staff to help out and things will work out in the coming years. I actually like how the future looks for the Warriors.

  204. War-E-Or November 2, 2013 1:14 pm

Gotta admit im happy for the local kids who play for USU… They showed up big time. They look like they have something to prove, as the entire team does too.

  205. Shoko November 2, 2013 1:16 pm

That must gave been a Woolsey designed play…

  206. kev-1 November 2, 2013 1:17 pm

actually we close, there are 4 other winless fbs teams and 3 of them actually are worse than us, although fcs grambling has it real bad.

owen 8 southern miss, 8 miami oh, and 9 georgia state are statistically worst. i think georgia state may be the all-time worst, they lost to samford and chattanooga to start the season. 7 uconn is a joke.

all the teams average under 100 yds rushing and less than 300 passing.

  222. kev-1 November 2, 2013 1:37 pm

No doubt this was their worst performance of the year.

Maybe Chow will continue with his creative methods to improve the team, like changing the way they walk into the stadium or what kind of music they listen to in the locker room.

  223. Whats up November 2, 2013 1:39 pm

Hawaii Offense is just plain bad, the O line is horrible, the run game is non existent, the QB play is horrible, the only position that showed up to play on offense is the WR’s and they stunk it up too! Schroeder play regressed against better competition on defense. It’s time to start Taylor Graham or Woolsey for rest of the season because it’s better to get the future QB’s game reps for the last 4 games of the season to build for next season. If Hawaii gets 1 win this season it will be a miracle. I can’t even blame the defense for todays blowout loss because Hawaii Offense sucks okole.

  224. kev-1 November 2, 2013 1:40 pm

LizK . . . thank you for posting that so others can see it. I have been overly frustrated today, but that was the nail in the coffin for me.

Notice that the commentators tried to do some damage control after they shared the comment. Still, it shows poor leadership and a lack of confidence. NOT the thing you want to hear from your head coach.

  225. oldtimer808 November 2, 2013 1:40 pm

Did Coach Chow really make that comment about not being cut out to have a head coaching job? I am supporter of the UH and the student/athletes but coaches come and go and the main thing is that the student/athletes graduate and do well on the field as well as off. I am saddened by this comment from Coach Chow and if it is true than he should resign at the end of the season and not take any monies going forward. I hope the UH has an out clause if he does resign. I believe we do have the players but we need a coach that will know how to best utilize the abilities of his players and we don’t need a pro set type of offense since it is difficult to recruit those kinds of players. I think Coach Miano has been trying to put himself into position to try for the head coaching job again with his success at Kaiser.

  226. JustAsking November 2, 2013 1:41 pm

So Chow bemoaned the 6 hour flights to the mainland during his interview with CBS commentators? Seriously? Did he think UH was on Catalina Island when he took the job? C’mon coach, ……

  227. gobows November 2, 2013 1:42 pm

    #221
that would have made him look smart. now da buggah just old. twenty years past prime and fading by the second.

  228. Manoa2 November 2, 2013 1:43 pm

I think that we all need to think seriously about whether Chow is cut out for the job.

Even when we take baby steps to improve, we are like a 2 year old chasing a 10 year old– every step forward we make, they take another 10 steps.

Meanwhile, we are so bad on execution, penalties, and mistakes, that we are actually helping the other team beat us. If we could just fix mistakes with some half way decent coaching, we might actually win some games. A lot of times we have the right idea, but the players don’t seem to see it, or they are thinking about what they can eat at the training table, or maybe the coaches have not found a way to coach discipline and focus, and improve execution and cut mistakes.

  229. Inyoface November 2, 2013 1:43 pm

    He really said that? Wow.

  230. LizKauai (mbp) November 2, 2013 1:43 pm

Chow is running this once proud football program to the ground….Hawaii is Better than that come on folks wake up and smell the roses…..Chow needs to Resign or be Fired.!!

  232. Chow Von Appen November 2, 2013 1:46 pm

Aloha, kev-1. Let’s be serious. Higgins isn’t any better than shroeder and graham. Only delusional people like Independent Thinker think that higgins will sell out the stadium and lead our football team to wins. He’s worse than woolsey because at least woolsey has potential. I will continue to work tirelessly with my coaching staff, day and night, until we can finally look like we can at least win a couple of games in the OIA red division. Mahalo for all your support. Imua Warriors!

  233. kev-1 November 2, 2013 1:46 pm

I’m pretty sure that when UH had the undefeated regular season capped by the Sugar Bowl, they had road games too. Sick of his excuses.

What bothers me more is that Chow will give all of his excuses, then follow it up by saying “but that’s not an excuse.”

  234. kev-1 November 2, 2013 1:47 pm

    HAHA . . . Chow Von Appen,

TRUST ME, I wasn’t advocating for Higgins. I just meant it as a comment to show how bad the game was looking.

  235. kev-1 November 2, 2013 1:49 pm

UH . . . possible the only team in the nation that has given up TWO 90+ yard turnover for TD’s to slow defensive players.

  236. Chow Von Appen November 2, 2013 1:52 pm

Aloha, kev-1. To the offense’s credit, they knew that Utah State was going to score anyway, so why burn more clock and tire out the defense even more? Just let the guy go get his pick 6, and then get the ball back at the next kickoff and try again! Imua Warriors!

Delete my earlier comment. Think the cheap shot was on #82 after looking at is again.

  244. WarriorFan November 2, 2013 2:17 pm

Another tough loss for the Warriors. Are we seeing any improvements? If we’re honest with ourselves, we are not. The players are trying their best, we can’t say the players aren’t trying.

But, we definitely need to question what we are doing in terms of coaching. Why are the players coming out looking flat to start BOTH halves of all games? Why are we having interceptions run back for touchdowns weekly? Why are receivers running into the QB on running plays? All of this boils down to fundamentals of football; COACHING.

“We had a tough travel schedule, but it’s not an excuse.” “We had many injuries, but that’s not an excuse.” If it’s not an excuse, why even bring it up?! Don’t couch your comments under the guise of “it’s not an excuse,” when clearly, you’re trying to justify why your team isn’t executing.

Look in the mirror and ask yourself this question: Am I allowing the players to be in the best position to win? If the answer is no, please save us the agony and resign immediately.

Ben Jay, forget your five-year plan. We, as a program, don’t have the luxury of waiting 5-years for the “hope” that Chow’s plan will come to fruition. Be a leader, pull the plug NOW!

  245. olos November 2, 2013 2:17 pm

Haha you guys lost again. One snap and clear my left foot. More like one slap and clear D1 college football! What a disgrace to the State of Hawaii.

  246. LizKauai (mbp) November 2, 2013 2:19 pm

Agreed, 3-Prong. Looks like Saui got tangled and just twisted down. Still. Damage is damage.

  247. gobows November 2, 2013 2:22 pm

if they catch the bus now, they don’t have to worry about a 6 hour flight.
i hope the coaches take the team to see all the tourists sites in the dc area. most locals don’t get the chance to travel out there.

  248. WarriorFan November 2, 2013 2:28 pm

    #222 speaks volumes!

  249. Bumby November 2, 2013 2:29 pm

I stated that if UH is 0-9 or 0-10 the hammer will come down on the coach. The morale appears to be sinking lower and lower. Losing the confidence of many and players are not playing like the talent they possess. (My observation)

Coach not looking to next year and still playing a quarterback who throws too many interception. May not make too much of a difference with another but at least you will give next years QB game experience. If a coach cannot comprehend that, he has no pity from me. If you will be around for next year play those who will need to get game experience that will help them to be better next year.

If the upper brass is thinking of letting him go when the team comes back the announcement will be made at that time. If they do so at the end of the season they are just as blind of planning for the future as the coach.

  250. LizKauai (mbp) November 2, 2013 2:30 pm

olos- honestly, because of the escalating need to be more physically destructive to be a winning team, I am ready to pull my plug on football. It’s not worth the injuries to the kids.
It started for me when Colt was targeted for destruction in the Sugar Bowl.

I have supported Schroeder this season because he has been our toughest, get smashed and get up QB. Plus he is a senior and a leader and a no quit kind of guy. But enough is enough. The finesse game that I loved in 2007 is gone. Running and throwing and catching and scoring is a delight to watch.
Running and juking and running and scoring like Alex Green was awesome.
Running and getting smashed, running and getting smashed is not for me.
The big teams play with nothing but damage on their minds.
How can we justify emulating that model?
    I don’t.
Every players and his family can come to their own conclusions and choices.
There’s more than one sport in college for the student-athlete. Choices and preparation can be done when the kids are young.
But no sport is worth permanent brain damage.
God Bless and GO, Rainbow Warriors!

  251. wow November 2, 2013 2:34 pm

Lava and your sock puppets, people just don’t like your whining … either stop whining like a child or grow a pair….

  252. papajoe2 November 2, 2013 2:44 pm

    RIP Buttons. Aloha.

  253. LizKauai (mbp) November 2, 2013 2:57 pm

    Heavenly Consolation, Buttons Ohana

  254. Old Diver November 2, 2013 2:58 pm

So Chow is questioning whether he is cut out to be a head coach and describes the travel as the part he dislikes most. The dirty little secret about Chow is he never liked to recruit and was never known as a good recruiter at his previous coaching stints. He always disliked the traveling and hotel stays which went along with travel, so this comes as no surprise to people who coached with him before.

  255. Stan Manley November 2, 2013 3:26 pm

When Coach Jones inherited a 0-12 team and transform them into a 9-4 team, my belief is one coach can make a difference. Games (where UH is an underdog) are winnable under the right coach despite the players ability. An average player can be a great player if the person in charge can guide them to greatness and I don’t think Coach Chow is it.

As for the players, I feel for each and everyone of them. I am sad with the results of this season but I am sure the players are feeling much worse than I am. Some are far from home with little or no family in Hawaii. WE need to support the players in every way possible on and off the field.

  256. Chow Von Appen November 2, 2013 3:30 pm

Aloha, Stan Manley. Thank you for your comments, but as you can clearly see, I AM that coach. We are headed in the right direction, gang. By the next game, we will progress from dive plays up the middle to more complex running plays like counters and traps. Imua Warriors!

  257. Superman November 2, 2013 3:35 pm

Chow doesn`t have what it takes. Pau already! Those who still believe in Chow you guys are delusional and living in a dream world. Wake up folks Chow is not the guy!

    Good-bye Chow!

  258. Norm Chow November 2, 2013 3:55 pm

WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO MEAN TO ME???? *sniffle.

  259. A-House November 2, 2013 3:57 pm

it would be interesting on how “recruits”, committed or not view the terrible offense and defense and question should I really play for this team?

hell, I am way better than the “starters” and I can make an impact my first year – other side says, why should I play for such coaches and athletes?

each game, I see very little, if any, improvements on offense and defense and for that I put the responsibility on the coaching staff

I was so disappointed at the half that I went to work to do something positive.

best be told that UH will do another 0-12 season and what happens, happens

I will buy season ticket next year.

  260. A-House November 2, 2013 3:59 pm

I hope Zwahlen watched the game – he may just change his mind about his future for 2015.

  261. Jonj November 2, 2013 4:04 pm

After two seasons of saying it and being the bad guy. I think the majority of folks and chow himself knows that chow can’t cut it! Hated the hire… But when he had his first introduction as the coach I liked what he said. But quickly 2 games into the 2012 season knew chow football was bad again!

    Few questions.

If/when the new coach is hired can our best QB come back to the team (DG) or did his eligibility expire??

Will we lose a few of the bright spots on our team??

how many of u now realize that Firing Mack was the wrong decision??

And can u unrealistic fans now realize that UH will never be a perennial power house each year??

  262. Norm Chow November 2, 2013 4:06 pm

Every night I go home and read the terrible comments on this blog by you horrible people, and I’m going to be flat out honest with you guys: it hurts. It’s hurtful to not only myself, but to my families, and to the players. Every night I read these terrible comments and I cry. I cry for the gods. I cry for the people. I cry for the land that was taken away.

UA MAAAAAAAAAO! KE’EA O KA AINAAAAAAA! I KA PONOOOOOOOOO! O HAWAIIIIIIIIII!

  263. Babo November 2, 2013 4:12 pm

#263 – With a recruiting budget of 182 thousand a year, UH will never, EVER be a powerhouse football club.

All we can hope for is the Hawaii Bowl, or our most common bowl achievement, the Toilet Bowl.

  264. lava November 2, 2013 4:19 pm

You shut your goddam whore mouth, jonj. All you do is come here and spew hatred and stupidity. You lucky this is the internet.

  265. Jonj November 2, 2013 4:22 pm

What is entertaining is listening to FUHA week in and week out trying to validate chow, his efforts and FUHA weekly predictions only to totally wrong. I guess the oddsmakers were pretty right one once again even giving us extra points.

Please FUHA quit ur predictions. Maybe ur bachi for the team! Ever since u came on the boards in 2011 we’ve been losing! Haha… Really it’s not funny becuz I love this team!

  266. gobows November 2, 2013 4:24 pm

the hawaii bowl IS a good thing. remember when people would complain about going to the hawaii bowl? oh how come we cannot go to one mainland bowl game? they no even go to the home games, but they like the team spend money and go to the mainland. whatever happened to dem dummies…

  267. Jonj November 2, 2013 4:24 pm

I trash the team and I trash the coach becuz I love this team!

  268. Jonj November 2, 2013 4:26 pm

Looks like lava hating his bashin on Mack! Lol… I don’t hide behind my name lava jonj stands for jon James and if u like talk shit we can make this real

  269. Jonj November 2, 2013 4:27 pm

I have never trashed talked the team! Idiot… Now we know who goes and impersonates posters “lava”

  270. lava November 2, 2013 4:30 pm

Oh yeah, jon james? well my name is false crack medevac. you still hiding, jon james. jon james is the most haole name ever. you walk around hawaii kai and yell “jon james,” then see how much people turn around. doesn’t mean jack, jon james.

  271. jonj November 2, 2013 4:30 pm

  272. Jonj November 2, 2013 4:33 pm

You right is one haole name. But I’m black n Mexican I born n raise big isle look more local than you and I’m more Hawaiian than most Hawaiians! I bleed green . If you like talk more shit than we can meet and I’ll have it video for everyone to see on this board afterwards!

  273. Wes'side Warrior November 2, 2013 4:33 pm

Got done with today’s activities over at Leeward Community College, and I couldn’t wait to get home to READ what happened.

First thing I see is a DQ! What? Dang!

Just seemed to snowball from there.

And to hear commentators say that Coach Chow questioned his own ability to be HC. Wow!

Where do we go from here? Still got a few games to be played. Still on the road, heading to Navy. What do we do?

Defense seemed to be our strong suit at the start of the season. Offense just couldn’t get it going. Then role reversal. Now? Frustration.

I love and appreciate all of our student-athletes. As young adults, with many away from home, how can they cope with what’s happening and still be 100% effective? This was an ugly loss, not just an almost-won kind of contest. How do we get everyone’s heads back into the game, and remain focused, one game at a time?

I’ve said as early as last year that perhaps Coach Chow should sit up in the booth for a game and call the shots from there. Would that create problems on the field during a game? Other HC’s have called games from the booth, so it’s not out of the question.

As Jonj asks above about firing Coach Mack… I would rather have a 6-7 season, than a 3-9 or 0-12 one!

Where do we go from here?

By the way… the Discovery Fair at Leeward Community College was very crowded and lots of fun. Glad that my oldest daughter’s choir performance went well. Glad that I finally got a chance to hear her sing live and in person, after being away for the past 4+ years.

Healing prayers to all… physical, mental, spiritual, social, financial, etc…

  274. Jonj November 2, 2013 4:40 pm

i talk big on the internet because i get small boto.

  275. Jonj November 2, 2013 4:42 pm

Lol lava… That’s all u got?!? We kno u one weak old man. Go sleep already

  276. Jonj November 2, 2013 4:46 pm

False crack medevac?!?!? Haven’t heard than one since 2nd grade…

  277. lava November 2, 2013 4:47 pm

You black and mexican? Well I Hawaiian and samoan. So what, then? You like dance haka with me or something?

  278. olos November 2, 2013 4:50 pm

PolyMom, D1shima, Former UH Athlete where are you when the team is down??? Especially when so much negativty focused on the boys and or Coach Chow????

  279. Jonj November 2, 2013 4:54 pm

Can tell u one fafa… Guess ur mom knew u were the weakest of the bunch

  280. Jonj November 2, 2013 4:58 pm

280 olos FUHA like tell the team for play dirty now and send kids like TG and SS the “nobody’s” and take out some knees

  281. Warrior fan November 2, 2013 5:04 pm

If we fire Chow… Who would want to coach at UH? I wonder what Lane Kiffin is doing?? Maybe he can help us…

  282. kapakahi November 2, 2013 5:08 pm

    #283,

    Dino Babers

    Brian Norwood

  283. lava November 2, 2013 5:08 pm

jon james, bend over young man, and then you can find out.

  284. Jonj November 2, 2013 5:10 pm

Well since Miano got states to go. I say hire cal lee, Reggie Torres or Keith uperesa as interim. Post the real job now and try to hire someone beginning to mid December to help recruiting.

  285. Gay Norm Chow November 2, 2013 5:12 pm

I like the way you talk, lava!

  286. Jonj November 2, 2013 5:13 pm

Agreed kapakahi! I think Adrian Klemm should be added to the list. I kinda like the thought of hiring a position coach so he doesn’t have “his” type o offense.

  287. kapakahi November 2, 2013 5:13 pm

St. Juste not getting enough touches.

  288. RB November 2, 2013 5:14 pm

I rather see DSJ run the ball he has more speed then Lakalaka.

    CAR YDS AVG TD LG
    D. Saint Juste 7 48 6.9 0 15
    S. Lakalaka 12 36 3.0 0 9

Nequan Phillips should not even be starting. He gets toast on a lot of deep passes. Don’t get me wrong he is a good CB but when it comes to the deep ball I’m sorry but he is too slow.

  289. olos November 2, 2013 5:17 pm

I repeat. PolyMom, D1shima, Former UH Athlete where are you when the team is down??? Especially when so much negativty focused on the boys and or Coach Chow???? I’ve fallen and I can’t get up….

  290. Jonj November 2, 2013 5:18 pm

Kinda funny watching Fresno play today. They playin our old style of football and looking like our old style

  291. kapakahi November 2, 2013 5:20 pm

Whenever it happens……almost guaranteed that Babers and Norwood will both be applying for the HC job.

  292. Jonj November 2, 2013 5:25 pm

And then Jim tressel will get hired. Lol

  293. obachan November 2, 2013 5:26 pm

I’m not advocating for Chow’s resignation or termination. But if that happens I’d vote for Dino Babers who’s the head coach @ Eastern Illinois. His current salary is $170,000 and in the middle year of a 3 year contract. I’m sure EIU will do what they can to retain him but perhaps the idea of coaching at his former alma mater is attractive to him. I was impressed with his values & coaching philosophy in this recent interview.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2bmd1YsqCE

  294. kapakahi November 2, 2013 5:26 pm

Not being negative about the boyz…….who’ve been playing hard all season.

However just being a realist……that Coach will probably need to produce a winning season next year to keep his job.

  295. olos November 2, 2013 5:36 pm

Chow stays unless he “retires.” Give hime one more year to put it together! What’s the rush?

  296. Warrior fan November 2, 2013 5:41 pm

I feel bad for the players.. They’re working very hard but the coaching staff isn’t helping them out.. Would Babers or Norwood be interested to coach at UH??

  297. hightide November 2, 2013 5:47 pm

Ben Jay said the program under the previous coaches was mediocre at best. What is his take on this coach?
What’s the word to describe what was on the T.V today?

  298. Buffoman November 2, 2013 5:48 pm

It was a very bad performance. Agree.

The defense was very poor from the start again and it did not take long for the oftenest to follow suit.

I believe Chow will keep his job for another year unless he throws in the towel himself. I think Ben Jay will demand changes to the staff. I think TK will be sacrificed along with a couple of others.

I think next week’s game may be ugly. If there is a shot of a win, it may be against Army. But that is iffy.

Still a fan but that was ugly.

  299. Former UH Athlete November 2, 2013 5:50 pm

Maybe I should be thankful I didn’t watch the game today. Only bits and pieces on the radio. Looked pretty ugly on box score. I can only imagine a few untimely penalties and bad mistakes following good plays.

    290…
DSJ had the better game today, but Lakalaka has been more consistent… that’s why he’s the #1 so far. Plus, I think DSJ gets more touches if UH isn’t forced to abandon the run game in the 2nd half.

I did hear the 1420 guys mention Marrell Jackson was ejected for targeting… Was it legit or a bad call by refs? Seems like the secondary is a mess when he’s not in the game…

  300. RB November 2, 2013 5:56 pm

    # 301 the call on MJ was a bad call IMHO.
DSJ to me seems like a better RB again IMHO

  301. greenthumb November 2, 2013 5:57 pm

I agree with the people who are saying that the TV crew’s mention about Chow’s comment about his suitability as a head coach was a strategic move, maybe a trial balloon. That business about long haul travel was a head shaker though — maybe fatigue with LAX yesterday or the impending two weekends straight on the road? After all, air travel is quicker now, just less pleasant with security and crowded planes.

  302. Jonj November 2, 2013 6:15 pm

Despite what lava thinks… I know the team has talent and that the coaching is the issue. I also feel that if we get smoked again at navy. We should be seeing a fire.

  303. Former UH Athlete November 2, 2013 6:25 pm

291… Gotta let the boo birds blow off steam before saying something good. Pointless ranting, is pointless.

I know there are several motivational speakers who have quotes for that, but I can’t recall names right now…

Didn’t get to watch so I don’t have any opinions good/bad/indifferent, but looking at the box score, it’s not a lot of good.

  304. Moocher November 2, 2013 6:33 pm

The problem with letting go of chow is that the team is neither her nor there. scrapped players to build “his” offense. i can see, i think all of us could see what he was trying to do. although with homecoming loss, this loss, and i wish there were a place i could hear chow’s comment about not being cut out to be a head coach.

consider all those things and now yeah, this time i think is at an all time low, perhaps past the point of no return. i gotta say for the first time i think it’s time for Ben Jay to get on the horn to Miano NOW since he is the most reachable to be interim coach part 2, and promise Miano a fair shake at the head coach position.

I can see chow’s vision and what he wanted, but if his comment were true, perhaps coach it’s time to say the honorable thing to do is step down before more damage is done.

having a vision is one thing…but time and reality always wins.

Ben Jay, please get Miano on board to finish out the season, give the boys a change, and start the wheels moving now for next season. in my opinion that’s the best thing that can be done at this point after chow’s comment if it were true. anyone know where we can hear that comment again?

  305. Babo November 2, 2013 6:36 pm

You cannot blame this stuff on the kids and the coach. Until the University actually makes it a point to put forward a good product we will all suffer. When you hire a middle school football coach like Chow, it is a slap in the face of all fans.

The University doesn’t care if the team wins, they want the money and the paycheck.

  306. oldtimer808 November 2, 2013 6:38 pm

#295 I agree about Dino Babers as a possible coach at UH. I love the system that he runs since the offensive mindset is similar to what Baylor runs.

  307. erich November 2, 2013 6:53 pm

chow looks like he’s giving up. how would players react to their head coach saying this?

    http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865589781/Long-night-of-losses-takes-toll-on-Hawaii-head-man-Norm-Chow.html?pg=all

β€œI don’t know. I’m too old for this. I’m way too old for this. I had fun as an assistant. I don’t know about all this stuff.”

  308. papajoe2 November 2, 2013 6:55 pm

Moocher, why Miano? Big difference between Red and White division and High School and Div. 1 college.

  309. Old Diver November 2, 2013 7:03 pm

    310

Miano has a commitment to Kaiser an their championship run. There is no way he jumps ship now.

  310. Tazer November 2, 2013 7:32 pm

This is getting to be like a T.V reruns for this team. As for the Chow comment, maybe ST can get a answer if he did say it or not. And what he really meant by that. And I feel the players are the ones getting drag down by this coaching staff. Even if they say they like Chow. And Chow get real coaches to run your offense for you. Don’t get students (that are learning how to coach) to do the job for you. And call the right blocking asseiments for offense line. And also Chow you need to be flexing your play calling. And get help for you to run this football team. As for you people who are calling to fire the coach. Well it be up to Ben Jay, Apple and the board of regents to call for the axe to fall on Chow. As for the players go out and have fun and take care of your business on the field. But also Please play nice here. Even if you don’t like what other people saying.

  311. papajoe2 November 2, 2013 7:47 pm

Taser, read #309. He admits he’s way too old for this.

  312. Jack Flash November 2, 2013 7:55 pm

It’s bad enough we have to watch our anemic and pathetic offense, but watching Fresno State run their version of our old run and shoot is almost to much to handle.

  313. Inyoface November 2, 2013 7:56 pm

Did the team even sleep the night before the game?

  314. Inyoface November 2, 2013 8:03 pm

Chow I think might be too old to deal with everything that happened in the off season. Nickname changes, locker and weight room issues, bad personal investments and hiring of an OC that had family issues. This flight delay and all the losses might be the last straw for him.

  315. Inyoface November 2, 2013 8:05 pm

Not to mention all the financial woes of the program. You need to have a lot of tolerance and energy to take the head coaching job at UH.

  316. Derek November 2, 2013 8:20 pm

We are 2/3 towards a winless season. We will not beat Navy, we will lose big to San Diego St. We will gasp for air in Wyoming and might not score in the freezing weather. And finally, with all the marbles on the table we will not stop the leading rushing team in the country, namely Army.

Graham’s performance is terrible. Schroeder helps the other team more than he helps our team. Woolsey needs a lot of seasoning. I don’t know why Higgins was on the trip if he wasn’t going to play. We were out coached again.

I’d like to know who hired Chow. Who are these people. Show yourselves! Pro Set offense? Give me a break.
I think some people are on suicide watch!

  317. 808 warrior November 2, 2013 8:30 pm

Now is the time for Chow to step up and be a leader!!

    Stop making excuses!!

The shadow of his leadership permeates to his team.

Stand tall and start leading the team!!

  318. kev-1 November 2, 2013 8:45 pm

I would agree that now is the time for Chow to be a leader. However, his comments in recent interviews, both before and after the game, show the opposite of a leader.

Hearing the coach sound so defeated and question his own ability to lead is more disgusting than anything I saw on the football field today.

    Shame.

  319. kev-1 November 2, 2013 8:45 pm

After reading that article, I got the impression that he was longing for Utah.

  320. WarriorFan November 2, 2013 8:53 pm

    #309 wow

  321. nanakuli November 2, 2013 10:23 pm

Coach Chow is a nice coach that can call plays for teams with lots of talent. He got fired from USC, the Titians, the Bruins, and did well at Utah. If he goes upstairs he may save our season and save his job. I see talent, but piss poor play calling.

  322. LizKauai (mbp) November 2, 2013 11:40 pm

God Bless and Goodnight, Rainbow Warriors!

  323. wasabi November 3, 2013 4:11 am

Chow’s vision and implementation of that were two different things. What he did with his old school football is hard work no fun mentality was to take away the spirit of the team. If he had kept a few coaches (Rolo, Aranda) who could have helped assess talent of the players and kept up morale, without imposing his old school tactics and alienating players, he would have been much more successful. He is now like a man on an island alone. I don’t blame him if he wants out. I do blame the PTB fot hiring a first time head coach who is 67 years old. Now will the Tsaiko’s admit not every situation demands blind following?

  324. just saying November 3, 2013 4:24 am

At this point in the season norm chow should give woosley or higgins a chance at quaterback and run some option to help his running game . start the competiton for next years starting quaterback.

  325. Papololoco November 3, 2013 5:55 am

Chow is not cut out to be a HC, can we all at least admit that?

  326. Papololoco November 3, 2013 6:07 am

Chow has done more damage to this team than any HC in UH history. What Von Appen did was pretty bad but what Chow is doing is even worse. it’s not enough that he completely robbed us of our identity (R&S) but we are now one of the worse team in the FBS, sure to be at least #2 in the Bottom 10 next week. It’s obvious that chow doesn’t want to be here, he should do the right thing and resign, NOW!
