Game day: Utah State

It will be the Halawa Caucus when Utah State and UH meet tonight at Aloha Stadium.

At stake is consideration for the WAC’s Offensive Player of the Year. The Aggies’ candidate is Robert Turbin, a hard-running running back. The Warriors offer quarterback Bryant Moniz.

This week, the Warriors have focused on tackling, a tribute to the “angry” style of the Utah State running backs.

In turn, Utah State linebacker Bobby Wagner said the Aggies want to contain Moniz’s scrambles. According to a WB analysis, on non-sack scrambles, Moniz is average 12.1 yards from the point where he eludes an initial would-be tackler.

The Awkward Tour continues ย with tonight’s game as another stage in UH’s debate whether to extend the head coach’s contract.

Clearly, this is about money, and trimming certain people’s salaries is the AD’s strategy to whittle an accumulated deficit. It is a delicate process for an AD who, in an indirect way, is asserting that the administrators who hired him made a mistake in setting the head coach’s salary. (Those administrators also hired the AD.)ย For all parties, their best hope is for the Warriors to string together victories.

    But anyway, Tangle Turbin!

  15. postmanke November 5, 2011 7:50 am

given that the whole dynamics of the situation has changed dramatically from 2007 esp from an economy standpoint, I’m not too sure JD is hard pressed or that fine line is as delicate. I’m sure feelings wont get hurt one way or the other. Lace em up, put on your big boy shoes and get it done!

  16. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 7:51 am

I never realized Correa had such a wide body until I stood behind his Kardashian yesterday. UH should have a decent rotation at d-tackle next year with Hanohano, Correa, Matagiese, Samia and, maybe, Friel. I would actually like to see Kody Afusia move to d-tackle.

  17. d1shima November 5, 2011 7:53 am

  24. A-House November 5, 2011 8:51 am

With all the craziness on conference expansion or retraction, I wonder if UH would accept a Big East invite for a “west” division as envisioned by a certain sports analyst. Notably missing from his vision is Nevada from the “west” division.

If UH jumps with the other so-called MWC commits from the WAC, will there be an “exit penalty”? If so, amount? Is it in writing or oral commitment like a recruit who can certainly change his mind. In UH’s case, they committed to something that may no longer exist. If so, what sledge hammer does Thompson have over the departing teams?

Realizing that the Big East has a 27-month escape time clause, this can be a humbug if the PAC 12 invites UH. On the brighter side, it would give UH 27 months to really spruce up its academic and athletic programs – easier for athletics tho.

Exit fee is a dilemma as conference changes are causing this fee to be raised higher and higher. Wonder if a conference will stipulate that the amount must be paid in full BEFORE a school can actually move to another conference thus placing an obstacle for schools jumping around? Unlike the WAC that agreed to Reno and Fresno St paying their $1 million exit fee in 4 or 5 yearly installemnts. With or without interest?

A bigger question is how much will APEC affect the future of Hawaii’s business, leisure and athletics? Article in SA this am cited Congressional approval, waiting for Pres Obama’s signature, making it easier access for Asia-Pacific countries to conduct business in Hawaii. WOW, is this something special!!!

As a side note, a birdie whispered in my ear that the United Nations may purchase property in Hawaii and develop a political/business/residential complex for Asia-Pacific countries with delegates moving their families to Hawaii.

This could be a huge boost for UH and the East-West Center.

Good Morning Tsaikos! Everyone here in Northwest Florida will be watching the LSU – ALA game. The @home tailgates are already underway. I have a double blessing. No dog in the #1 vs #2 fight, no family ties or loyalties to either, like most people in my area have. My second blessing is that after i find my way home through beer and wingz, i get to watch the Warriors on ESPN3. As they say down in LSU country Geaux Warriors!

  27. Shoko November 5, 2011 9:12 am

Gosh, Georgia scoring 42 points in one quarter has got to be a D1 record.

  28. Old Diver November 5, 2011 9:13 am

The contract is about money and winning because the two go hand in hand. While UH does not have the same pressure from big donors like at Ohio State, Texas, Alabama and the rest, I have to believe the big donors do have JD’s ear. Sure would like to know what they are telling him.

  29. Old Diver November 5, 2011 9:24 am

ST’s take yesterday on some of the administrators at UH was spot on and something I have been saying all along. One of my son’s ex-professors also works part time doing retail sales. He said he does that because working in the real world gives him a real world perspective.

  30. Slugger November 5, 2011 9:28 am

    Good Morning, Gang!

Love the show of support by McBride for Christian. Get well soon, Steven!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  31. slenzi November 5, 2011 9:39 am

Coaches have to deal with FICKLE sh-tuff from every direction. Remember last year they were calling for Les Miles head because he mis-managed the clock in the waning minutes of two games in a row? FICKLE AS HECK because they won the two games in question. I think Coach Mac is thick skinned enough to let stuff like that roll off his feathers, but if support is denied from certain parties, then he has a right to question AND get his feathers up. Mac knows what a reasonable salary is, but he also knows what can be done total package-wise, and with regard to subordinate coaches, and he has a right to expect a good package when salaries have to come down. I remember that coach went on record soon after being hired that he was “shocked” at the salary.

They should agree to a contract of $100,000 per win. At the end of the season… sign the deal.

  35. madeinhawaii November 5, 2011 9:48 am

Or sign now… and fill in that number at the end of the season. Get this contract stuff off of the backs of ALL OF the coaches so that they ALL know where they will be for next few years.

  36. SteveM November 5, 2011 9:49 am

    Good morning everyone!

The AccuWeather forecast predicts the ENE trade winds to be under 9 mph at game time (versus the 32 mph gusts forecast earlier in the week). Low winds should help our passing game.

    Stephen Tsai #16:

Remember when Haku Correa and Jordan Hanohano committed to UH? What about Pai Pai too? These comits were directly related to coach Mac and Miaono opening up the home-front to let coaches and student athletes alike know that UH valued what they bring to the table. June Jones, bless his heart, had left Hawaii open to stripping by MWC and PAC 10 and even top Div 2 schools. JJ simply said, “The door is always open to come back,” but Mac said, “We don’t want you to leave.” There is a big difference between the two approachdes in our Asia-Hawaiian-Polynesian cultures. JJ reversed the Von Appen effect; MAC patched some of the holes in the JJ approach, and empowered folks like the Lee’s and Rich Miano to help him. No aloof kingship for MAC . . . beibng present, accessible, and vulnerable have been hall marks of his style.

  38. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc November 5, 2011 9:55 am

I have run across the list of earmarks designated for Hawai`i earlier this year. About 150 projects/programs lost their federal funding. Will tote up all the UH funds lost so that we can focus on who really is responsible for the cuts in UH external funding.

Off to softball, shopping, T-gating, and football.

  39. Shoko November 5, 2011 9:56 am

Would be interesting if Wyoming can pull of the win against TCU.

Not true. Pai Pai was recruited and kept home by Cal Lee and Haku was Jeff Reinebold all the way. Also only Pai Pai was really offered by other big time schools and considered a Pac-10 prospect. Gordon and Haku were considered WAC or Big Sky type players. Coach Mack had nothing to do with recruiting any of those 3 kids and overall the real big time prospects in Hawaii are still leaving. Pai Pai is the exception and once again Cal Lee kept him home no one else. If you are going to give Mack props fine, but don’t make things up or give him credit he does not deserve.

Got my Warrior Jersey- finally- at the Kauai Community College Bookstore – who graciously held my Ranbowtique gift certificate for months before I could get there! The only one my size was #1- which is okay because I like Aaron Brown and Greg Salas…

Gonna wear it all day through all my meetings – even through Waimea’s playoff game with Kapaa at 3 for all the marbles. (Waimea is BLUE and Kapaa is green)

Dunno if I can see the game tonight as it it also the Waimea Alumni Assoc. annual Luau (no rain, please).

As for the Warriors- take nothing for granted- especially home field advantage- because, of late, Hawaii fans seem to get disappointed faster than a Korean cheering section can change color. ๐Ÿ™„

Play for the LOVERS… especially the UNCONDITIONAL ONES who don’t gamble… ๐Ÿ˜†

And Coach Mack- We are all in the Hands of Ke Akua. Mahalo, Mahalo, Mahalo.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  43. Toots November 5, 2011 10:33 am

Why do you post pictures of our injured athletes or talk about upcoming surgeries? I just think you’re giving schools info that they don’t really need and doesn’t help us.

  44. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 10:34 am

Reinebold did most of the work on Haku. But Reinebold was off the staff when Mack took over, so I’m not sure who closed the deal. I don’t think Haku was going anywhere because his mom works at UH and his brother helped coach him.

  45. PolyMom November 5, 2011 10:39 am

@43 I agree. Other teams do look at these blogs. Why give them information about players injuries.

It was weird about Jesse Williams.

Twice he committed to UH, twice, for some reason, he couldn’t get in.

    Utah State is LSU.

  108. Iwonderwhytheyhateme November 5, 2011 6:20 pm

Can someone remind Mack we are in the first quarter pleaaaaaase.

There is NO need to go for it on 4th.

    WTH?!

  109. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 6:28 pm

    Pollard to the training room

  110. Hank November 5, 2011 6:38 pm

I like us pounding with Jackson & Iosefa…it’ll pay dividends in the 4th quarter and keep their offense off the field.

  111. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 6:42 pm

    Iosefa is awesome to watch!

  112. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 6:44 pm

Interesting that Clapp is at right wideout.

    Bell shoulda stuck around.

  113. madeinhawaii November 5, 2011 6:45 pm

Iosefa is Hawaii’s answer to Turbin.

  114. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 6:47 pm

    Bell was asked to leave.

  115. Hank November 5, 2011 6:54 pm

D is doing a great job so far of shutting down the wacs top offense.

  116. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 6:57 pm

there are fewer than 50 students in the student-sideline section.

  117. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 6:57 pm

Bet student attendance goes up when UH jacks up the student fee to $100/semester.

  118. BowsForever November 5, 2011 7:04 pm

Iosefa puts the “run” in Run N’ Shoot.

TD Moniz! That’s more like it!

  119. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 7:04 pm

    Yay…3 for 3 for harden/Austin and co.

  120. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 7:04 pm

    Hadden I meant

  121. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 7:04 pm

    Nice run by Moniz.

  122. WarriorNY November 5, 2011 7:05 pm

    What happened to Terrance Bell?

  123. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 7:05 pm

116:is there a protest going on?

  124. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 7:12 pm

They told him he was off the team after they burned Davis’ redshirt…they probably thought he was not as valuable to them being a non-starting senior…bet they are sorry bout that now!

  125. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 7:13 pm

Way to go Aaron brown!!! Playmaker tonight

  128. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 7:21 pm

Never like to see that…best wishes to their QB #16. Be well…

  129. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 7:22 pm

Mood is very somber after Keeton injury,

  130. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 7:23 pm

    NICE run Mo…dang!

  131. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 7:24 pm

They’re supposedly taking him to Queen’s.

  132. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 7:25 pm

Why not try the hook-and-lateral on second down?

  133. postmanke November 5, 2011 7:26 pm

Wishing the best for Keeton. Was hoping to see his legs move. Hoping nothing too serious

  134. WarriorNY November 5, 2011 7:26 pm

Wish nothing but the best for Keeton… He’s going to be a force in the WAC, if he can get healthy… Best Wishes…

  135. kawika49 November 5, 2011 7:34 pm

  141. kawika49 November 5, 2011 7:50 pm

As an 11b4p 100% Dav I think, the half time was done appropriately.

  142. Iwonderwhytheyhateme November 5, 2011 7:54 pm

Terrible to see the QB go down.

    Prayers that it isn’t serious.

  143. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 7:55 pm

No paralysis for Keeton, which is encouraging news.

  144. WarriorNY November 5, 2011 7:56 pm

Who is after Clapp on the depth chart???

  145. WarriorNY November 5, 2011 7:57 pm

    @143…

Very good to hear… Hopefully it’ll be a Jake Locker type injury where he can bounce back next year…

  146. Hawaiianbod November 5, 2011 7:57 pm

    prayers for Keeton.

  147. Hank November 5, 2011 7:58 pm

    #143…Good News…

  148. postmanke November 5, 2011 8:01 pm

    Good to hear about Keeton.

  149. A-joe November 5, 2011 8:10 pm

Our boys are totally flat on the sideline n field. No one seemed concerned about that last Utah score

  150. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 8:10 pm

    Now Clapp is out.

UH is running out of right wideouts.

    Charles Clay?

  151. markazulu November 5, 2011 8:11 pm

    C’mon warrior’s dont let up!

  152. Ipu Man November 5, 2011 8:11 pm

New Mexico State quarterback Matt Christian was knocked out of the Georgia game as he tried to tackle Baccari Rambo on the Georgia safety’s 51-yard interception return late in the second quarter.

    Stutzmann to right wideout.

    Paclebar to left slotback.

  154. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 8:16 pm

By the way, it’s Jordan Loeffler at left tackle.

  155. Buffoman November 5, 2011 8:16 pm

Mo is going to have it tough. These receivers are just not on the same page. Too bad.

  156. Ipu Man November 5, 2011 8:17 pm

Again, per Pomai’s last posting, the winnah will be…

    Clapp out with rib injury.

  158. rasu whatever November 5, 2011 8:19 pm

    whats attendance about 200?

  159. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 8:19 pm

In review: Clapp, Pollard, Leonard, C.Laurel, Bright, Chun not playing.

  160. Buffoman November 5, 2011 8:23 pm

Attendance actually 199. 200 is tickets distributed.

  161. Ipu Man November 5, 2011 8:24 pm

Probably lots of folks left town due to apec…

  162. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 8:26 pm

Adam Kennedy is a pretty good QB.

  163. Buffoman November 5, 2011 8:26 pm

Uhhhhh…wassup, Aranda? Not pau game yet.

  164. A-joe November 5, 2011 8:26 pm

Boys still playing flat. Kinda in cruise mode

  165. markazulu November 5, 2011 8:29 pm

Wow it seems like after Chucky Keeton left the game Hawai’i has been deflated an Utah State has been more in the game.

Hawai’i is just letting this game get away from them!

  166. Buffoman November 5, 2011 8:35 pm

Team does not have the finish mentality. They get ahead and let the foot off the pedal. Not what great teams do.

Watching the LSU V Alabama. That’s why they are 1 and 2. They play all the way. Non-stop. We just don’t have that. too bad.

  167. Buffoman November 5, 2011 8:39 pm

Our o line is uUGLY!!! They play like they are second and third team, not like player who can just step in. The mind set needs to be different.

  168. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 8:41 pm

    Terrible spot is right

  169. A-joe November 5, 2011 8:41 pm

There doesn’t seem to be an urgency

  170. Hank November 5, 2011 8:43 pm

    Here we go.

  171. A-joe November 5, 2011 8:43 pm

    Kinda cruising

  172. Buffoman November 5, 2011 8:43 pm

Did Aranda go out for coffee? Somebody has to call him back. There’s still a game and his defense is not looking good.

  173. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 8:43 pm

Oh my god…better fire back up guys!

  174. rasu whatever November 5, 2011 8:44 pm

not cruising, stopped, dead in the water

  175. PONO November 5, 2011 8:44 pm

Wow! Wow! Unreal! If UH loses this one we will be saying bye bye to Mack.

  176. A-joe November 5, 2011 8:46 pm

Ok. Let’s see what kinda fire we got!

  177. A-joe November 5, 2011 8:47 pm

    No no they cruising

  178. A-joe November 5, 2011 8:48 pm

No one wants to step up. Everyone hoping someone else takes charge.

  179. Buffoman November 5, 2011 8:50 pm

The line is just not blocking. Did Rolo join Aranda for coffee? What kind of play calling is that?

  180. A-joe November 5, 2011 8:51 pm

Moniz running the option completely wrong!

  181. rasu whatever November 5, 2011 8:53 pm

the only cruising going on is off of Maui

  182. Ipu Man November 5, 2011 8:53 pm

This USU team almost beat Auburn…so you know

they have good players and coaching…

  183. PONO November 5, 2011 8:56 pm

The injuries on the offense are piling up to a point where we have no continuity. Hope they can suck it up for one drive before we lose this game.

  184. Buffoman November 5, 2011 8:57 pm

It may be just me but this team knows how to embarrass itself. Why do they continue to do it? Yes people got hurt, but is the bench that weak? Does that mean we did not recruit well?

Where is the blocking on the runs?

  185. kawika49 November 5, 2011 8:59 pm

    Up to the D

  186. A-joe November 5, 2011 8:59 pm

    We playing not to lose

  187. rasu whatever November 5, 2011 9:02 pm

actually, it seems we are playing not to win

  188. Ipu Man November 5, 2011 9:04 pm

Gotta luv an exciting game, not one-sided or predictable!

  189. slenzi November 5, 2011 9:05 pm

    RIP #40

Thanks for the update on recruiting Hanohano, Correa and Paipai. If you look at my post, I said that Coach Mac initiated agressive outreach to the coaches and players in Hawaii that led to a change in the overall philosophy of recruiting our hometown kids. Somehow it got twisted that i was saying Mac was the be-all, end-all in recruiting those guys, which he was not. However, they were some of the first classes of local boys who came in under the new philosophy of letting both coaches and athletes know that things had changed at Manoa, and UH was now open to communications and suggestions, and wanted to get to know the local high school coaches and players much better than JJ ever did. Hope this clarifies.

  190. duffer November 5, 2011 9:06 pm

Utah State has had some good bounces!

  191. madeinhawaii November 5, 2011 9:08 pm

Dayumn… I’m not liking the way this is looking … c’mon Warriors..

  192. Ipu Man November 5, 2011 9:08 pm

    Nice knock-away by Tank Hopkins!

  193. A-joe November 5, 2011 9:09 pm

I love it!!! Pressure for no apparent reason!!!

  194. Ipu Man November 5, 2011 9:10 pm

    32 seconds left…catch down by 6 yard line…

  195. duffer November 5, 2011 9:10 pm

    Here goes Turbin

  196. WarriorNY November 5, 2011 9:10 pm

    wtf? this is unreal…

  197. Buffoman November 5, 2011 9:11 pm

Hopkins must be the poster boy for all offensive coordinators.

  198. Ipu Man November 5, 2011 9:11 pm

Richard Torres stops qb at 2 yard line…

  199. PONO November 5, 2011 9:12 pm

Hopkins is being taken to school. He needs to bounce back.

  200. Ipu Man November 5, 2011 9:12 pm

16 seconds left and Turbin gets touchdown…

  201. Hawaiianbod November 5, 2011 9:12 pm

    pfft

  202. rasu whatever November 5, 2011 9:14 pm

not to negative, but I thought we were favored to win the WAC

  203. Wassup November 5, 2011 9:14 pm

    You gotta be kidding me!

  204. Wes'side Warrior November 5, 2011 9:15 pm

Dang it. That’s why we don’t take the foot off of the pedal. That conservative stuff after the half killed us. Gotta keep moving those chains.

  205. duffer November 5, 2011 9:15 pm

Props to Utah State. They played 60 minutes! Kennedy played the game of his life.

  206. madeinhawaii November 5, 2011 9:15 pm

There goes the WAC Championship hopes… let’s hope we get into the Sheraton Bowl, at least… ouch!

  207. Ipu Man November 5, 2011 9:16 pm

I think UH felt too sorry for sending their “Chucky” qb to Queens…

And they sort of let up to be kind typical of Islanders.

Can you say Hawaii Kingdom lost?

  208. Buffoman November 5, 2011 9:16 pm

I hope we don’t make it to the Hawaii Bowl. If USU and a second string QB can do this to us, I’d hate to see us embarassed on national TV. Embarassing.

Did Aranda get back from his coffee break?

  209. MattyBoy November 5, 2011 9:16 pm

Now can everyone get out of their damn fairyland works and believe me when I say FIRE MCMACKIN!!!!

  210. A-joe November 5, 2011 9:16 pm

    This is Epic!

  211. WarriorNY November 5, 2011 9:17 pm

    I need a drink…

  212. MattyBoy November 5, 2011 9:17 pm

    MIH,

Are you serious??? You still want Hawaii to go to the Hawaii bowl after a showing like this?? You’ve got to be kidding me!!

  213. Wes'side Warrior November 5, 2011 9:18 pm

Okay, let me move my clocks back an hour and go sulk. Man…

  214. Hawaiianbod November 5, 2011 9:18 pm

    embarrassing!

  215. slenzi November 5, 2011 9:18 pm

Hard, hard loss, but we got to witness the stuff that football legends are made of … only this time it was with the other guys. QB Kennedy rallies USU to win this one for Chucky.

  216. Ipu Man November 5, 2011 9:19 pm

    Well, UH victory over Nevada

next week gonna be that much more

    sweeeeeet!

  217. MattyBoy November 5, 2011 9:19 pm

What will it take for people to know that Mcmackin is not the head coach we need!!

  218. Rip November 5, 2011 9:19 pm

Slenzi, those guys were recruited by June’s staff. They were done deals when he went to SMU and because Cal stayed here at UH they stayed. Haku’s mom works at UH he was a no brainer and in fact Hawaii was his best offer. If you have been watching this season, the so called “change in recruiting” doesn’t seem to have been much of an upgrade in size, or speed and the 4 and 5 star locals still don’t stay home. They head to the mainland.

  219. Hawaiianbod November 5, 2011 9:20 pm

    props to usu.

  220. MattyBoy November 5, 2011 9:20 pm

    Ipu man,

You really believe we are going to beat Nevada?? That’s weird and corny.

  221. rasu whatever November 5, 2011 9:20 pm

Ok, the OLine is really bad

USU is in a prevent with 7 guys in coverage

and our 6 (include RB) guys can’t block 4 rushers

    longer than a 2 count?

  222. Hank November 5, 2011 9:20 pm

We have struggled with staying focused the whole year…USU deserved to win – they played four quarters…we did not.

  223. madeinhawaii November 5, 2011 9:21 pm

    MattyBoy..

I’m a fan of the team and it’s players… that means I want them to go to a bowl game and I want them to get a little extra revenue for the season… And yeah, I want them to win out the rest of the season. It’s not always how you start.. it’s important how they finish the season. Cause that defines the start of the next.

  224. Warriorfan4ever November 5, 2011 9:21 pm

What the hell? Hot n Cold Mo gets player of the game? What about Aaron Brown? He had a heck of a game if I remember right!

  225. rasu whatever November 5, 2011 9:23 pm

    tsigh…..

  226. Buffoman November 5, 2011 9:24 pm

This is just so frustrating. Yes people got hurt but wow, we had Bess behind Chad Owens, we had Salas behind Bess. We do not see to have anybody behind our first line folks. If that’s the case, we’re in deep kim chee. NO BENCH!

  227. RedZone November 5, 2011 9:24 pm

    What the hell happened? Damn.

  228. Konaboy November 5, 2011 9:24 pm

222 you hit the nail on the head. D played an awesome 1st half, but could not get any pressure in the 2nd. O was helped big time in the 1st half by the Aggie penalties, but was like the offense of the UNLV game in the 2nd half. This team isn’t horrible but isn’t great either. You can just never tell what kind of performance you will get week in and week out.

Now excuse me while I try to find my ripped out heart.

  229. Wassup November 5, 2011 9:25 pm

At least we won’t have to stress out about the “WAC Championship” game next week at Nevada. Tough, tough game to swallow. Maybe we should go back to the drawing board with a new staff / system. Save money on contract and do not re-sign Mack. We can lose for a lot cheaper than 1.1 mil. per year.

  230. MattyBoy November 5, 2011 9:25 pm

Ill definitely donate money to fire Mcmackin!!

  231. MattyBoy November 5, 2011 9:25 pm

    Wassup,

    That’s what I’m talkin bout!!!

  232. kev-1 November 5, 2011 9:26 pm

spare me the cliches like “one snap and clear” like so many people like to say on this blog. That was by football definition, A COLLAPSE. The lackadaisical approach of the QB and the offense in crunch situations once again came back to bite them in the butt. I especially did not like seeing Moniz smiling so soon after a loss. The coaches hadn’t even shaked hands yet and our QB was laughing it up with the other teams coaching staff. Am I the only one who saw that?

This team has so much potential, but they keep on disappointing. WE REALLY SHOULD BE 9-0 or at least 8-1 right now.

  233. WarriorNY November 5, 2011 9:26 pm

    I have a question…

How many times has Mo come back to defeat an opponent? How many times has he let a lead pass? I’m not a Mo hater but just wanted to point that out…

  234. kev-1 November 5, 2011 9:27 pm

I am in favor of saving money, but I’d like to see the system stay. Here is the plan . . . Keep Rolo and Aranda and hire a local football coach legend . . . yep, CAL LEE!!!!!!!!!!!

  235. Konaboy November 5, 2011 9:28 pm

Kev, I disagree, the receiving corps is just not at the level it need to be for that type of record this year. Next year they will be, but then we are dealing with a first year starter at QB.

  236. kev-1 November 5, 2011 9:29 pm

How many times has MO overthrown a deep ball? You’d have an easier time figuring out how many he connected on. THis offense can not succeed if the only pass plays you complete are 3 yard outs.

  237. rasu whatever November 5, 2011 9:30 pm

Some days you’re the dog, some days you’re the hydrant

  238. Uniwarrior November 5, 2011 9:30 pm

#208: many 2nd string Qb’s are better than the starters. Don’t ever believe the numbers. They don’t always reflect the quality of players ability. Just the coaches choice. What really matters is the play on the field during game time. That kid threw the hell out of the ball. No doubt Austin would do the same under the same circumstances. No disrespect intend.

  239. kev-1 November 5, 2011 9:30 pm

konaboy . . . I don’t necessarily disagree, but if you look at our losses, they are all games we should have definitely won. With the exception of maybe WA. That is what I base my claim on. I do agree that the recievers are not where they need to be. But the teams we lost to, we definitely should have beaten.

  240. rasu whatever November 5, 2011 9:31 pm

Never, under any circumstances, combine a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

  241. kev-1 November 5, 2011 9:32 pm

    WHAAAAAT??

  245. Buffoman November 5, 2011 9:34 pm

MIH yes, it’s how you finish and we did not! And it seems to be a pattern. I agree with Matty, this team has been embarrassed and unfortunately it simply does not appear to have the momentum to improve and keep improving. They get better in one area, like special teams and regress in another DBs (Mr. Hopkins, everyone’s favorite target is not improving), or o-line. So what are the second and third team guys doing in practice when the first team guys are practicing? Watching teams like Arkansas, Oklahoma and others play, when one goes down the replacement does not appear to be ill prepared. Why do ours look so bad?

Props to Utah State. Nice guys playing and coaching for UH, but unfortunately, this team (coaching staff) lacks the killer instinct and is too laid back.

Time to bring back the offensive scheme that was the most successful in UH football history.

no knock on our qb, but he can’t hit the broadside of a barn which is 30 or more yds away. give him 100 chances and he will complete less than 5.

  251. Whatmoviewasiwatching November 5, 2011 9:40 pm

Come to the conclusion after watching UH lose to some really bad teams on a consistent basis this year that our team must be worse than those bad teams we lost to. Yes, coaching could definitely be better; and our guys give it all the got all the time. We should commend them for their efforts; but you can do only so much with what we got. Unfortunately, it is what it is. Let’s hope we can get some strong recruits next year.

  252. whitey November 5, 2011 9:41 pm

but then again, why is he throwing long when the rns is designed for the short game. oh, i forgot that our offensive coordinator is calling the plays.

  253. Konaboy November 5, 2011 9:42 pm

Kev, I agree that this game and San Jose could have been wins, but to go further, it just appears we just lack too many things this year on top of young receivers to have a well rounded team that can pick up where other parts slack off during 4 quarters of a game. Some seasons are like that.

On a side note I don’t think this is a “gut the system” situation. WAC title looks lost but the Hawaii Bowl berth is now priority #1 and we should be pulling for that.

I will be cheering them on next week.

  254. tommui November 5, 2011 9:42 pm

Well, as Charlie Brown would put it :”How can we lose when we are so sincere?”

So even if we lose or win, we have to give out support to our Warriors.

interesting that 2 weeks in a row, the qb missed or was excused from practice. don’t tell me that we have 5 qbs on the team and that our present one is irreplacable. Anyone else think losing Clapp was more of a loss than Pollard tonight? Pollard is our deep/middle guy, and we all know how that part of our offense is right now. But Clapp is our Mr. Reliable. He was the most significant injury of the night IMO.

Maybe Norm Chow will be available for next year… given UCLA is in the tank. He is up there in terms of age, and his stock is on the decline. That given, he may not be as demanding as perhaps he supposedly was in the past. Think he would do and least as well and PROBABLY better in keeping at least some of the top 10 Hawaii prospects home.

We are not getting rid of Mack. We don’t have the money to buy him out and pay the next coach a sizeable sum. Mack’s a nice, honorable man but he’s not going to give up $1M a year and quit. So let’s stop the get rid of the coach talk or so-and-so may be available next year discussions. It ain’t happening!

    Thoughts to the USU QB.

  310. Robin November 5, 2011 10:34 pm

Right, Norm Chow is at Utah now. I would surmise his stock is not as high now because of his age and because his teams haven’t been as successful as when he was at BYU and USC. Suggesting Chow because he still may have enough in the tank to get some results at home, and his connections and contacts on the West Coast may still be fresh enough. But I can’t believe people are suggesting Cal Lee. He did have a stint at D-coordinator didn’t he? Like Ron at O-coordinator. What Cal Lee did best at St. Louis was recruit talent, and he also had a great coach in Vince Passas.

Personally, what I find most frustrating about Hawaii football is their inability to keep most of the top talent home…and get only a small, if any, PREMIUM Mainland talent in return. Often, its the 2nd chance guys that we get when they are studs (Pisa, Bess, Colt). Contrast the Warriors to the Wahine. Most of the very top (Danielson, Cubi-Otineru, Kahumoku, Kamanao, etc, etc) play for Hawaii, and that is supplemented by very good Mainland and occasional foreign talent. I think only libero is the only position where Hawaii lost some of its very best to Mainland schools. But I digress.

Still, Hawaii football is losing more than breaking even or winning recruiting battles with PAC-12 schools like UCLA, Washington,Oregon State, Arizona, Colorado and others like BYU and Notre Dame. I HATE seeing that BIG list of DI Hawaii players not playing for Hawaii.

  311. Da Punchbowl Kid November 5, 2011 10:35 pm

  312. Robin November 5, 2011 10:39 pm

    Bottom line,

That is far from our best talent out there representing the State of Hawaii. Only thing perhaps more frustrating is seeing Stanford men’s volleyball winning the NCAA championship, while the team with Hawaii on their jerseys barely making the MPSF playoffs and exiting early.

Why did coach Mac leave the field along with most of players and not stay for our alma mater? Show some leadership and sportsmanship.

  324. Kevin November 5, 2011 11:13 pm

    My thoughts:

-Utah State did NOT play 60 minutes, they played 30 and we played 30.

*Again, failure to adjust and respond to their new-found momentum following the unfortunate injury to their QB was a prime example of consistent issues since 2008.

    -Ummm..

Well, that’s really the only thought I have really. I find it somewhat questionable that Moniz said they weren’t completely prepared for USU, because for the first half, EVERYTHING I said months ago and recently about us being able to handle USU was correct. Turbin was snuffed out and USU looked like most elevation teams do when they play at sea level.

Tonight, Coach Greg McMackin has and should have made upper campus’ decision an easy one.

The thing is, I’m not even mad, just in a state of acceptance. Acceptance that unless a change is made in coaching personnel, nothing changes. Anyone can point to issues of ill-preparedness in days prior to a game we lost or the inability to make crucial adjustments in our offensive approach and even in a basic act of getting the team up and ready for what comes in the second half.

These issues have remained since Coach Mack got the job and have not been unique to ONE season.

I place my vote of NO CONFIDENCE with this coaching staff. Nearly four years and I think it’s enough.

  325. Stephen Tsai November 5, 2011 11:15 pm

I agree that win or lose, team should stay on field for alma mater.

  326. Kevin November 5, 2011 11:19 pm

    Alma Mater:

This happened against San Jose State in 2008 and Coach Mack said he made a mistake ordering the team to the locker room after that loss and it would never happen again.

UH should FORCE an apology for this disrespect, blatant or not.

    REAL Momentum change:

USU starting QB carted off the field. Aggies headed into halftime two minutes later with a purpose. We did not respond and should have expected a surge from them.

Terrible play calling and terrible officiating. Missed opportunities

Niumatalolo won’t be leaving Navy any time soon for any program. Good money, great benefits. Plus, only a few teams run that offense.

for ANYONE who thinks Mac should be the coach TOMORROW: YOU DONT KNOW SQUAT ABOUT LEADERSHIP.

    MAC SHOULD RESIGN TOMORROW!!!

tsai DONT EVEN TRY and put ANY kind of positive spin on a reason Keep him. IF YOU DO YOU ARE GUTLESS

  342. PowderPuff November 6, 2011 12:32 am

Geez, no class. If anything, you should be grateful to Tsai for allowing you to continuously spew your poison and filth. Yeah, dog out the coaches, team, whatever…but at least do it with class. Dogging out Tsai really shows your character.

Hi PowderPuff! Don’t feed the troll, remember?

  344. Relentless November 6, 2011 12:42 am

cmon, why are you guys/girls so f***** negative? It’s as if God handpicked this team and play only angels. These boys you are talking smack about is fathers, sons, uncles, or brothers. show some respect for hawaii and and its only team.

if you have so much political things to say about the football team then why dont you run for president and voice your opinions then. If that’s too much of a hassle why dont you try for head coach or at least keep up with the football team when they practice their hearts out AND still go to school.

Another game lost indeed, but keep the faith for the future. Get a grip, grow up and show some damn respect. NUFF SED

  345. Slugger November 6, 2011 12:43 am

Looks like more work this coming week. Get ready for the next game.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  346. PowderPuff November 6, 2011 12:43 am

You think I don’t care? Please, don’t be so quick to show your ignorance.

  347. disappointed November 6, 2011 12:44 am

It may be time for a coaching change as losing 3 games that the warriors should have won against “weak opponents” (and almost losing to Idaho) is totally inexcusable. It this point, I’m tired of Mack’s excuses–I’m still in shock over how the UH lost when it had a 28-7 lead.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Mack will be to get us the two wins necessary to get to the Sheraton bowl (of course, maybe it would be better if we didn’t make it to the Sheraton Bowl because if we did Mack would find someway to have the team not ready to play and we could have another embarassing showing on national tv).

  348. PowderPuff November 6, 2011 12:46 am

What’s up, gmahoney!!!!! And my woman of the week, Slugger!!! Okay, okay….I’m pau with that classless wahine.

GMA – did you come by our tailgate? Damn, we had fun…

  349. gmahoney November 6, 2011 12:50 am

  350. PowderPuff November 6, 2011 12:53 am

Crap, I always have to leave an hour before game time. Hope to see you next time. Of course we’ll be there for Fresno State and BYU. I think Tulane tailgate is up in the air because tailgate master has some family commitment that day. Damn, today was hilarious. Wait ’til I post the video from it….it’s hilarious!!!

Thanks…yep, supporting the young men and women is what it’s all about.

  351. cocobean November 6, 2011 12:57 am

    #336. Kevin.

I agree with most of what you say.

Whatever direction the coaching situation takes it going to be painful. With Mack you know what you get. He;s probably the most humane coach we’ve had. Players first, fan friendly. His overall coaching effort is okay. Keep him for a year or extend him for plus 2 and we can expect more of what we’ve had up till now. More wins than losses but not moving forward as a program. With Mack what you don’t get is coaching excellence.

I wouldn’t want to be the one making the call on this. When you look at our facilities and resources there’s very few coaches that can excel here. It’ll take a super special coach to produce the results the fans want. The Petersens of this world a few and far between.

  352. Slugger November 6, 2011 1:01 am

    Our Warriors have heart…

One of the last group of players off the field: [Graves, Hopkins, Hardy-Tuliau & one # I forget right now(sorry!)] after kneeling for a prayer together.

    Love those guys.

Prayers for the Utah St. QB. They are, after all, only students.

  353. sports for fun November 6, 2011 1:04 am

Let’s see…returning starters on offense, 2…Moniz and Pollard. Receivers graduated…nfl receivers Salas and Pilares…

Let’s remember that our personnel on offense is almost totally new. Only Moniz and Pollard had significant playing time last year, every one else pretty much rode the pine. Did we really expect UH to contend for the title? I was hoping they would, but with so much players done with their eligibility, I felt it was a long shot. I felt like this was more of a rebuilding year for next year.

That being said, once the injuries happened to the receiving corps tonight, I felt the play calling went really conservative, or Moniz would make bad decisions. Sorry, but Moniz, to me, is not as good as the media, local or mainland, make him to be as a QB. Unfortunately, everyone who plays QB for the Warriors will always be compared to Colt until he exceeds Colt status.

The defense just didn’t rise up to the occasion tonight when the Aggies started gaining momentum. Both players AND coaches are to blame, not one or the other.

Other observations: There were some key breaks that went the Aggies way tonight. The second fake put had a throw that went off the intended receiver’s hands, but ended up in the arms of a teammate who happened to be in the right place at the right time. Also, the fumble that got kicked around and ended up being recovered by the Aggies for a first down. The long touchdown pass where Edwards and another teammate collided and the ball ended up in the Aggie receivers hands and ran for a TD…that was a backbreaker. When I saw that (as I watched the replay on espn3), I felt the game slipping away.

My observations: This coaching staff has a bad habit of taking their foot off the pedal when they have a big lead, or they start playing “not to lose” as the 4th quarter begins. Like most of you here have said, they don’t have the killer instinct. Now I know why JJ would keep trying to score even though he had a huge lead.

I love watching Warrior football! I love cheering for them! Unfortunately, this team has far exceeded my expectations on how bad they would play this year! It makes it difficult to watch, but I will cheer them on and support them because, after all, it’s just a game, not life and death, and the Warriors are my team!!

  354. cocobean November 6, 2011 1:12 am

#371. Agree 100% with your last paragraph.

SALAS STEPS UP: Speaking of Salas, Quinn wasnโ€™t the only rookie to have a solid day on Sunday.

Salas continues his ascent after a rough second week and has emerged as a key target on third down. He finished the day with five catches for 47 yards and chipped in an 8-yard rush that picked up a first down as well.

โ€œThe guy is a football player,โ€ quarterback A.J. Feeley said. โ€œYou can see the maturity in his ability and how he can kind of do what he did in college and apply them to the scheme and now he is coming along just like what you want.โ€

I hope that Clapp, Laurel, and all of the other Warrior players injured in this game are fully recovered soon. They may not be able to play anymore this season, but they will still attend the home games and be a part of the spirit of the team.

I hope that USU’s QB is okay. That was and is scary.

If the attendance was that bad for USU, how bad would it have been if a FG had gone differently and UH had lost at Idaho? That Idaho win looks huge now for UH qualifying for the Hawaii Bowl. UH needs 1 more win besides Tulane and I cannot imagine that not happening.

My 12-2 prediction for Ed’s newsletter looks just *slightly* off right now. Sigh.

  362. Garret November 6, 2011 4:33 am

Looks like the Big 12 won’t expand beyond West Virginia for awhile. That gives the Big East a window of time create their Western Division.

“We’ve got to get our house in order. We’re pretty good with 10 or, if Missouri stays, 11,” Neinas said Saturday after helping with the unveiling of a statue of former Sooners coach Barry Switzer across the street from Owen Field.

  364. Garret November 6, 2011 4:42 am

I am still confident about UH making the Hawaii Bowl (Fresno and Tulane at Aloha Stadium at least), but I’m no longer going to complain about the weak SOS hurting UH’s computer ratings after wins. As unhappy as UH fans might be now, Fresno State’s fans might be even more upset…but at least Pat Hill took a pay cut from $1+ mil to $650k last year.

Here are the Sagarin ratings after yesterday’s games.

    WAC:

    45 Nevada

    80 La Tech

    109 UH

    112 Fresno State

    116 SJSU

    119 Utah State

    131 NMSU

    143 Idaho

    Other Opponents:

    32 Washington

    62 BYU

    136 UNLV

    139 UC-Davis

    141 Colorado

    164 Tulane

  365. Robin November 6, 2011 4:42 am

Looking more like Hawaii will be playing MOST of the old WAC, with the exception that they will now be paying travel stipends to those same schools…

  366. Bulla November 6, 2011 5:00 am

Turbin, I mentioned his name a few times only because I saw first hand in Logan what he was capable of doing, a one man wrecking crew if you will. This loss really illustrates the dire straits that UH football is in right now.

Yes, I know it’s the only game in town

Yes, I know that the players are someone’s son, nephew, uncle, brother, grandson

Yes, I know that we need to ‘protect our house’

Yes, I know that we should play 4 quarters not 2 quarters

Yes, I know that our O line right now does not have 1 starter from our first game

Yes, I know that our receivers are all injured in some form or manner

Yes, I know that our D line could not pressure the QB in the 2nd half

    Yes, Yes, Yes,………….

So where does that leave us in this quagmire? We can complain, point fingers, make accusations, scream and yell, but all of that will not change our plight.

Mr. Donovan has some tough decisions to make, and that’s all I”m going to say ๐Ÿ™

  367. Longboarder November 6, 2011 5:06 am

    Hawaii Bowl?

Put the kool aid down. This team absolutely does not deserve to be playing in a bowl game.

  368. Longboarder November 6, 2011 5:11 am

  369. Warriorfan4ever November 6, 2011 5:53 am

that could be the decision for Mack that will be his Achilles heel, we shall never know…..but what is obvious is that we are not a very good team at this point in time. ๐Ÿ™ and that hurts.

  371. Pomai November 6, 2011 6:08 am

A wise man told me one time “All you work with the things you control not with the things you can not control”

So I will be at the next game at the stadium cheering the team then the next and so on, for the one thing that I can control is my support of this team.

  372. Bulla November 6, 2011 6:13 am

    Pomai,

i was listening on the radio after prison ministry, and when we couldn’t score on our 1st possession in the 2nd half, i told Lyn, “uh oh, i don’t like this..” USU is an uncanny team, a streaky team….in Logan i watched them struggle to a 17-17 tie with Weber State, I mean they were struggling. Well, 2nd half and an all time butt chewing produced 37 unanswered points.

Still gotta support the 808 team, but it is what it is…….. let’s see how the team can salvage the next few games ๐Ÿ™‚

Last night was so frustrating that I did what any concerned fan in this day and age would do.

    I made a website.

    http://warriorwriteup.tumblr.com/

  374. Lopaka43 November 6, 2011 6:35 am

Don’t you haters have somewhere else that you could play? You are very angry that Hawaii lost, and it is personal for you so you have to use crude, tasteless, and abusive language as though the people you are vilifying are cartoon characters. That is not who we are here on the Warrior Beat.

We are all very disappointed with Hawaii’s loss last night, and in hindsight, the choices that players and coaches made are clearly wrong, but in the course of battle, you make choices and some choices work and others don’t.

This team has potential but it is inexperienced and now many key players are injured. Whatever you say about this team, you have to admit they played hard to the end. I am sure they all blame themselves for not making this play or that play. Give them a break and give them the support they deserve for going out on the field and playing with such abandon and intensity.

And I agree with Bulla. I sure am glad I don’t have to make the big picture decisions. Coach Mack has built the potential to be special but we are not yet there this year, and because we all want to experience another 2007 and a Colt Brennan again, we are extremely critical of any performance that does not match 2007. And I am certainly glad I don’t have to face the hostile and abusive crowd of know-it-alls looking over the shoulder of the coaches, ready to pounce on any perceived failure to match up to the expectations that we will dominate the opponent and play error free ball even when we are being decimated by injuries and having to play third string players at key positions.

  375. RedZone November 6, 2011 6:38 am

I have to remember that we have young coordinators who are going to make mistakes. Injuries happen so players need to be ready to step in and make plays.

Don’t give up Warriors. Keep battling.

  376. Pomai November 6, 2011 6:44 am

On a another note, while attending the game in the fourth quarter their were some so called fans booing the team, IMHO that is just wrong, granted I see nothing wrong say “ah (insert name) is playing like crap tonight, but booing the team is just low class.

  377. Disappointed November 6, 2011 6:47 am

I haven’t read all 376 posts, so I’m sure I am repeating what was said earlier, but I have to voice my opinion: It is time to get rid of Mack. I was there at the debacle in Las Vegas. I wasn’t for the debacle in San Jose, nor for the nailbiter in Idaho. Doesn’t matter, the results are there in black-and-white: these are unacceptable, embarrassing loses, for which the head coach should be held responsible.

  378. Wassup November 6, 2011 6:51 am

I do believe that our players are great, and that they are much better than what we have seen. You will never hear me bad-mouth the performance of any of our players. The HC is the face of the program, and as such, he is held to a much higher standard. I don’t expect the team to go undeated, or even win conference championships. What I do expect is for the coaches to bring out the best in the players. If Mack can’t do the job, find someone who can. I’m still tired of his excuses.

  379. Bulla November 6, 2011 7:07 am

i like numbers, i think our resident mathematician Jason does also…in our HC’s current compensation package as far as i know (forgive me for any variation, i am not privy to private considerations between upper Manoa and the athletic department), this is what it breaks down to:

    $1,200,000 annually

    100,000 per month

    3,333 per day

139 per hour, every hour, based on 24 hours, but no one works 24 hours

2.31 per minute, every waking minute

ROI, many of us know that as Return On Investment, we are all taxpayers of this 50th state, and we are a so-called stakeholder as the HC position is the highest paid position on the State of Hawaii payroll.

Are getting the ROI we expected or was promised? Something needs to be done, collectively a decision needs to be made for the determination of where our AD sees the future of the football program heading to. Joining the MWC is a fiscal nightmare, and for those who don’t agree, just crunch the numbers for the ‘guaranteed’ travel subsidies.

Good luck Warriors, adversity develops resilience….we can only get better…… IMUA ๐Ÿ™‚

  380. Pomai November 6, 2011 7:13 am

Bulla as far as going into the MWC if you look at the overall picture I don’t think we really had a choice but to do so.

  381. PolyMom November 6, 2011 7:17 am

Post 310 @ Robin regarding Norm Chow. I think Uncle Norm is very happy where he is at Utah. Someone said his stock was down. Really? He still makes more money then Coach Mack! And if you follow his career and even watched one Utes game you would know his stock is not down. They kicked ass yesterday.

If they are thinking of a new Coach…they need a national search. Not just pluck and promote from within. Last nights game was a disaster. Let’s finish out the season and see what is next for these kids. They were very disappointed last night. Put your self in their shoes just for one minute.

Regarding all the injuries. They need injury prevention training. Yes there are special Trainers who specialize in this. UH does not have one of them. We need one in Hawaii ASAP.

  382. Warriorfan4ever November 6, 2011 7:17 am

259: this has been going on for the entire season and last year too. 263: yes u r correct. 265: agreed. 278: great point. 293 good idea! 309 amen to that. 324 agree with the “no confidence” vote. 335 LMAO good perspective. 345 thank u Slugger. 353 many good points u make.

  383. Shannon November 6, 2011 7:20 am

Conference memberships? Hawaii Bowl? Sheeez… Have we learned nothing about looking ahead, past what’s right in front of us? I just hope we have a winning season… Nevada isn’t gonna be any easier… Neither is Tulane or BYU… I wonder if the MWC is second guessing our invitation right about now…?

  384. Warriorfan4ever November 6, 2011 7:21 am

378: yep u said it best…disappointed. And it’s not just about a win or loss…the mess starts at the top…and it’s clearly time for a change in leadership…nuff said.

  385. Bulla November 6, 2011 7:25 am

    Pomai,

i agree somewhat, but remember before the MWC invite, the admin was touting ‘independent’ as the next best thing since coconut milk…..it is what it is…..have to salvage this season and move forward……2 steps forward, 1 step back…..that’s what they say…..

If you are one of those thinking of a new coach – don’t you think JD already has a short list? Just call the people on the short list and run the 10 day ad.

If you are one of those thinking of a new coach – help JD raise the $1.5 million to buy Mack out of this contract and the $500,000 a year for the next 5 years to help pay for the new coach.

If you are one of those thinking of a new coach – and all you want to do is whine about it, you’re just part of the problem. Community support, or actually the lack of it, is what is killing this program, not the coaches, not the players. If 50,000 show up every game, rain or shine, it would be much easier to buy a new coach and whatever else you need.

  390. Old School Dave November 6, 2011 7:45 am

Just get well and get it together for the BYU game. Hats off to the players, many them were gutting it out with a variety of injuries (part of the game). Hear Coach Tomey say that no one is truly 100% at this time of the season. Anyway, I still see a lot of guy playing their hearts out on the field and they are the essence of true warriors. True gut check time.

USU is building a solid program under Gary Anderson. He has a clear plan of going after the best talent in-state, recruiting Polynesian players, recruiting hard in places like Texas, and building the returned missionary program (will have a lot of 25-year old guys in the trenches).

  391. Da Punchbowl Kid November 6, 2011 7:46 am

Good Morning Gangeez! (no smile this morning, sorry)

Can’t blame angry posters who say their piece here. We are ALL Warrior fans and we are all frustrated and very, very dissapointed. Can’t stand fans who dog out the blog host and call the rest of us idiots because we are simply trying to support our Warriors win or lose.

But I have to say, I feel most bad for the Warriors. They are much better than how they’re playing, and nobody knows that more than them. All the other stuff about the coaching will need to be addressed, but we still have some games to play, lets make the most of the situation for the sake of the players.

Healing prayers to all the injured. I pray that Utah’s excelllent young QB is going to be okay.

Warriors, heal up, keep fighting and working hard. Each day is a new, blank page. Write your own ending to the season, Warriors. Once again, the sun has risen. Its time for the Warriors to rise up like a hot angry burning sun, and to let their lights shine until the season is over.

I think that Donovan is now committed fully to replacing Mack.

He might even name an interim coach while we search for a new coach– maybe stronger than normal, but doing that has advantages. For one we can start approaching candidates now instead of waiting. Keep in mind that Tulane for one is looking for a new coach and contacting a lot of the prospects I have heard others mention. After this season, Fresno may look for a replacement for Pat Hill.

The sad thing about sports careers– it is hard to end on top. They tend to end badly near the bottom or in steep descent.

A lot of part-time or new fans would do well to read your “How To Be a UH Fan”. I think it should be printed and handed out with every UH T-shirt sold.

But, unfortunately you limit who is going to read and re-distribute your posts because of all the profanity and bitterness. How about screaming everything you feel violently into a pillow (just so I don’t find out you’re my neighbor…or one of my kids) before you sit in front of your keyboard? And, yeah, I know it takes a lot longer to write something witty than it is to just fire off a couple of swear words. Obviously, you have a great skill set — just lose the profanity.

I like your writing style and I want to re-post your stuff, but I won’t do it if makes me look bad. Clean it up dude…looking forward to your updates.

Auwe! Perhaps they should think twice about carrying the State flag onto the field.
