Game day: UNLV

It’s homecoming when the Warriors play host to the Rebels this evening. Here are some of the side stories:

> Runnin’Rebels? With three receivers and quarterback Johnny Stanton (who started the first four games) unavailable to play, the Rebels are expected to emphasize their running game. Lexington Thomas has slumped in the past two games, but he’s still a threat. And the offensive line, led by center Will Kreitler, is very good.

> Then again, as long as wideout Devonte Boyd is on the field — and he’ll align on both sides and the slot — the Rebels are a threat to pass. Tight end Andrew Price also stands out, and not just because of his 6-foot-6 frame when he is aligned in the backfield as an H-back. He’s a terrific blocker. He also can run vertical routes with speed, sometimes matching freshman wideout Mekhi Stevenson cleat-for-cleat.

> The Warriors’ pass defense has improved in the past two games, largely because of an aggressive secondary.
First four games:
Passing: 83 of 121 (68.6 percent)
Passing yards: 1,086 yards
TD passes: 11
Passing yards per attempt: 8.97
Yards per catch: 13.1
Sacks: 4
3-and-outs: 7 of 46
Past two games:
Passing: 37-66 (56.1 percent)
Passing yards: 378
TD passes: 2
Passing yards per attempt: 5.73
Yards per catch: 10.2
Sacks: 11
3-and-outs: 3 of 23

Congratulations to the winners of the shirts.

Will they stream tonight’s game? Will the MWC site have it available?

  3. wafan October 15, 2016 8:25 am

They, not being the winners, of course.

  4. wafan October 15, 2016 8:28 am

Have neither seen nor experienced this much rain in a long time. Not excited about the coming winds, too.

  8. UHBooster October 15, 2016 8:50 am

Are they opening the stream for football or is it just for v-ball? Warrior nation on the mainland await. Or does anyone with the know how able to stream it for us?

UH footballers — play well with heart and intensity — Ws will come your way.

if you should lose, there is no shame because you played with heart and intensity!!!

  20. A-House October 15, 2016 12:59 pm

whitey – from yesterday – thanks for thinking of us!

BTW, a co-worker who goes salmon fishing in/around Ketchikan and Kodiak Isle annually said it was slow this year in the “rivers”

it was slow at Anchor Point and Shelter Island also – fewer, but larger – hauled in a 23 and 19.5 # cods – it was scarry as the head is so huge – plan to shoyu-ni the head soon, but so rich can only eat 1/2 – MasaBoy gets the other half as sister and mom says it’s too rich and makes all of us feel dizzy.

  21. A-House October 15, 2016 1:03 pm

shout out to the PNW tsaikos – wafan, Izzy, expat, djmictcho – keep safe during in coming rain storm!!

my late Dad, IMHO, made the best Kimpira – well seasoned with the little Hawaiian red chili pepper — of course, we cleaned and sliced the gobo — delicious — many I ate recently was over cooked – U know, soft/mushy

  22. Jack Flash October 15, 2016 1:28 pm

Keep the momentum going. Keep playing hard. See you at the stadium. Go Warriors!

  23. Kapahulu October 15, 2016 1:57 pm

    Gameday!

    Aloha UH Rainbow Warrior Fans.
Come out to Aloha Stadium tonight and support our UH Football Team.
They have been playing hard and exciting lately. Almost feels like the good old days once again. Got plenty room on the Bandwagon.

Homecoming Game Tonight against UNLV. (Hawaii favored by around 8 points).
Replace those negative memories from the Norm Chow years with some fresh excitement.

Sunshine Dru Brown (UH QB) has made a huge difference.

The Defense has been playing exciting attacking Defense that gets Hawaii Fans excited.

    Go Bows!

  24. Kapahulu October 15, 2016 2:01 pm

Anyone else notice the Ticket Sale from the UH Athletic Dept. this weekend.
For a total of $35 you could get a ticket for last nights Wahine Volleyball game,
UH Football Game vs UNLV and tomorrows Wahine Volleyball game.
    Sounds like a good deal.

    Keep the good deals coming!

    UH 38 – 22 UNLV

  27. Former UH Athlete October 15, 2016 2:20 pm

Also consider the opponents on those stats. Yes the D has played much better, but let’s be honest, the MW West division is terrible outside of SDSU. And even SDSU is completely one dimensional on offense, but I give em credit for finding ways to get Pumphrey his yards even with defenses loading the box.

  28. Maddog50 October 15, 2016 2:21 pm

Can’t wait! In the meantime Lobos bested the Falcons 45/40. Tale of 2 halves. AF barely showed up in first half-tried to catch-up 2nd half. Both showed vulnerabilities-first things first win this one-Go Warriors!!!

  29. Chicken Grease October 15, 2016 2:26 pm

Watching UCF vs. Temple on ESPNU right now. Mililnai’s McKenzie Milton is simply the one who got away. A Freshman should not be this good. So fun to warch his throws.

  30. Chicken Grease October 15, 2016 2:26 pm

    * Mililani’s

  31. Former UH Athlete October 15, 2016 2:27 pm

Oh and if anybody doesn’t know already, Alabama is far and away the best team in the nation.

They demolished Tennessee in Knoxville. Granted Tenn is a wounded team with a bunch of starters out, but Bama showed no mercy in front of 102,000 fans.

  32. Ed October 15, 2016 2:28 pm

Anyone know how to stream Fox 5 Las Vegas broadcast of game ?

  33. Ed October 15, 2016 2:37 pm

    From the mainland ?

  34. glkato October 15, 2016 2:49 pm

    try this: http://livestream.com/kvvu/Live

  35. z October 15, 2016 2:51 pm

SDSU also has Penny. Another one we should be worried about.

Rainbow Warriors stop the run and force them to pass. We need the dline to show up as they did in the last game. That unit has really come together of late.

    Go get em Rainbow Warriors!!!

  36. airsumo October 15, 2016 3:05 pm

For mainland warrior fans I believe the game will be shown on youtube.

  37. Tarheel Warrior October 15, 2016 3:08 pm

Go Warriors!! Power back on finally in Eastern North Carolina. Ready for some warrior football!!

  38. tongo October 15, 2016 3:19 pm

Any link to game on YouTube??

  39. NotNasti October 15, 2016 3:20 pm

This was the live stream link for last night’s vb match. FYI Hawaii ppl are geo blocked. http://hawaiiathletics.com/watch/?Live=7

  40. Bryson October 15, 2016 3:27 pm

While at the time it sucked to lose out on Milton,if he had stayed committed we might not have offered Dru Brown…

That’s the feed from Fox5 Vegas but I’m not sure if that will work once the game begins…

  42. oneseason October 15, 2016 3:31 pm

Looks like good attendance. Lines for great unwashed parking are long and slow. I wish the had parking passes like for wahine volleyball.

  43. oneseason October 15, 2016 3:34 pm

Wow. Parking lots are full. Great sign!

  44. Bryson October 15, 2016 3:38 pm

In addition to Milton playing for UCF you got former UH WR Keith Kirkwood playing for Temple

  45. NotNasti October 15, 2016 3:39 pm

#89 for Temple is Keith Kirkwood. Starting wr playing against UCF on ESPNU.

  46. NotNasti October 15, 2016 3:40 pm

    Same idea Bryson. Jinx?

  47. Bryson October 15, 2016 3:48 pm

Lol great minds think alike NotNasti…

  48. Tempmanoa October 15, 2016 3:49 pm

Checked the UH website and the link someone posted which shows only volleyball. Very early this morning there was an OC Sports “test” link on a UH site that showed a list of football games, but it is gone now and the “game day” page on the UH site says no streaming. Anyone hear different.

  49. z October 15, 2016 5:44 pm

    Lavender????

  50. WarriorNY October 15, 2016 5:49 pm

unable to get streaming, only can listen to radio broadcast

  53. Buffoman October 15, 2016 6:23 pm

    Sputter, sputter….

Offense looks ragged in first two possessions. Seems a bit out of sync.

  54. Warrior Fan October 15, 2016 6:38 pm

Is it me or does Bobby Curran cut off Jon Veneri all the time SMH. I sure wish they would broadcast it online for us on the mainland to watch the game..

  55. Buffoman October 15, 2016 7:07 pm

Still a bit uneven. Defense looks slow again. Touchdown looked too easy. Need to be better.

  56. Buffoman October 15, 2016 7:17 pm

Offense coming alive. Looking good. Torres is going to be a solid tight end. Paul Harris is quick to the hole. Such speed..

  57. UHBooster October 15, 2016 7:17 pm

Anyone on the mainland having any luck watching the game? Please post any links.

  58. Ki October 15, 2016 7:24 pm

    Score please

  59. Ronnie October 15, 2016 7:31 pm

21-21 with 34 seconds left in the half

  60. Buffoman October 15, 2016 7:31 pm

Defense still struggling. Can’t seem to make necessary stops. Touchdown and tie.

  61. z October 15, 2016 7:36 pm

    21-21 at the half.

Warriors simply just gave up. Did they over-celebrate from homecoming?

  74. Inyoface October 15, 2016 9:49 pm

    Another fumble by Dru smh

  75. Rodney October 15, 2016 9:49 pm

    Ball Security!!!!!!!!
Anybody think we had enough time to throw under the coverage and get a few 1st downs at end.

  76. Chicken Grease October 15, 2016 9:50 pm

Tonight’s game is demonstrable of how the U.S. Presidential election will go—will be neck and nexk whole way. Trump will lose like this.

  77. Rodney October 15, 2016 9:50 pm

    Bobby Curran needs to get
    better!! Argh!!!!!

  78. Inyoface October 15, 2016 9:55 pm

How did we not score on that first possession?

  80. Buffoman October 15, 2016 9:57 pm

Yes, defense still has a ways to go before we can think post season game. We just can’t seem to be able to stop the run on a consistent basis.

Dru has to secure the ball or simply not try to run out of trouble and just throw it away. Unless it’s a design run don’t run.

  81. islandman October 15, 2016 9:59 pm

Trump will get wiped out, per projections.

  82. z October 15, 2016 10:03 pm

    Maybe Dru no can?

  83. Chicken Grease October 15, 2016 10:21 pm

islandman, don’t go by biased CNN polls. Trump will NOT lose big. He’ll have as much of a chance as the Warriors had tonight.

  84. A-House October 15, 2016 10:34 pm

opening offensive series was a “bad omen” when you have a great kick off return only to punt the ball and perhaps set the tone for the game

my observations as the game progressed:
UNLV OL and DL controlled the LOS — yes UH scored a lot of points and had significant runs, but did it lead to points on the board? – nearly every “dive play” got stuffed for 1 or 3 yards – notice how their OL and DL moved in unison to either side and the RB just slipped through a small opening – where were the UH LBers – they got sucked in moving with the line – noticed how UNLV LBers played position ball and was just waiting for DSJ in the middle

UH LBers did not “track” the ball carrier – credit to #18 for fooling UH D — notice how UNLV coach made an immediate QB substitution by pulling #14 out after 3 offensive series and inserted #18 who had UH D guessing the rest of the game.

why did several UH players stop chasing the ball carrier when they were within 3′ allowing the RB to gain significant yards — #5 did that at least 3 or 4 times

it was uneasy game to watch as both sides moved the ball and scored

with this loss, expect a smallish crowd for New Mexico on 10/29

  87. H-Man October 15, 2016 11:13 pm

With the game tied and Hawaii had the ball with 5 min left in the game, it was Hawaii’s game to win. But Dru Brown turned it over with his fumble and Hawaii lost. End of story.

  88. cappie the dog October 15, 2016 11:21 pm

There is nothing more irritating than hearing gamblers celebrate behind you because the game went over.

  89. cocobean October 16, 2016 12:07 am

No politics…..but can’t resist saying. I want to start a rumor that Bill Cosby just endorsed the Donald. Saying he knows how it is when all these horrible, horrible women make false accusations.

  90. cocobean October 16, 2016 12:10 am

Tonight is just another example of when two fairly evenly matched teams play the outcome will be in favor of the team that wins the turnover battle.

  91. Inyoface October 16, 2016 5:23 am

Rolo said Dru ‘s fumbles will change the outcome of the game one day, it sure did.

  92. Bugaz October 16, 2016 6:56 am

I like the direction coach Rolo and the team are headed. Warrior football is exciting once again. We scored a bunch of points and the outcome could of have gone either way with a few minutes left in the game. Imagine if we had the likes of Kennedy on the Dline, how much of a difference that could have made. I’m hoping with a recruiting class or two of nasty Dlinemen with other talented position guys, Rolo will have our beloved Warriors battling with top twenty five teams again.

  93. Tempmanoa October 16, 2016 6:56 am

Very disappointed that there was NO streaming of the game on the mainland (where I was stuck again). I thought this had been worked out by Matlin based on newspaper reports. I saw posts on the audio feed site from a player’s parents looking for somewhere to see their son play. This is not going to help with recruiting and getting mainland support. I know this may not be thousands and thousands of people affected, but we had streaming last year through Oceanic and the MWC site so we know it can be done. What happened?

  94. The Flying O October 16, 2016 8:06 am

It’s sad when the only streaming option for the game on the mainland is some random guy sitting in the stands broadcasting the game from his cell phone on the periscope app, giving play by play commentary and answering questions from viewers who type him messages.

  95. Chicken Grease October 16, 2016 8:24 am

Are you kidding? This is AWESOME. By the people for the people. Local TV at its best and the way it should be. Getting really tired of hearing the likes of Kanoa and/or Kekaula (who I can barely understand when he play-by-plays; and I got Bose speakers here) doing Hawaii sports announcing.

  96. Tempmanoa October 16, 2016 9:22 am

I am on the mainland. I tried to watch two or three of the periscope feeds and with bad view, cutting in and out, and really not seeing what is happening, it did not work for me.

Last year we streamed games, but not this year. What happened? Why can’t we do it again? Saw posts from parents of players who were unhappy they did not have a chance to watch their sons play. Video exists– why was it limited on the mainland to Las Vegas.
