Game day: UMass

Our office numbers guy — Sjarif Goldstein — did the calculations and, carry the 3, it appears the Warriors will earn a bowl berth if they beat UMass on Senior Night at Aloha Stadium. Apparently, Arizona’s victory over Arizona State helped seal the deal. Well, that’s according to the estimations.

But, hey, it doesn’t mean much unless the Warriors cut down on penalties and improve on their starts. Here’s a look at their opening drives:

Fresno State: 3 plays, minus-5 yards, 2:00 elapsed time, punt
Boise State: 5—8—1:59, punt
San Diego State: 5—19—3:37, punt
New Mexico: 5—21—2:18, downs
Air Force: 5—20—1:50 ,punt
UNLV: 3—minus-20—1:44, punt
San Jose State: 13—69—4:56, field goal
Nevada: 10—81—6:12, field goal
Arizona: 6-minus-11—3:08, punt
UT Martin: 11—81—5:34, touchdown
Michigan: 3—minus-1—1:26, punt
California: 5—26—1:50, interception

Here are UH’s offensive penalties:
Fresno State: 9 offensive penalties, 69 yards
Boise State: 5-31
San Diego State: 5-34
New Mexico: 1-10
Air Force: 2-20
UNLV: 3-25
San Jose State: 7-55
Nevada: 6-55
Arizona: 7-60
UT Martin: 2-15
Michigan: 8-60
California: 2-15

Go Warriors! See y’all at Priderock aloha stadium!

  3. PBnJz November 26, 2016 10:27 am

Ugh! Why do they need to overlap events with WBB and FB starting 30 minutes apart? I hate choosing between season-ticket holding events! Considering I can catch FB on replay, I might have to opt for Wahine!

  4. Bugaz November 26, 2016 10:44 am

Best of luck Warriors!!! We’ll be there cheering you on.

  5. H-Man November 26, 2016 10:46 am

No penalties !!! Secure the ball !!! And score !!! Often !!! D Boosted by Viane Moala and return of Jerrol Garcia-Williams and Jamal Mayo. Go D !!!
    Go Warriors !!!

  6. clyde November 26, 2016 10:56 am

Hope I’m wrong, but I think after this morning’s games there are now seven spots open with eight teams still in contention (nine if you include Hawaii). Losses by Vandy and SMU would help clear picture.

  7. Da Punchbowl Kid November 26, 2016 11:00 am

    We got this!!!

    GO WARRIORS!!!
    MASH THE MINUTEBOYS!!!

  8. truegreen November 26, 2016 11:05 am

Clyde looks like you’re right. We still need help from one more before tonight’s game.

  9. truegreen November 26, 2016 11:11 am

Not sure about ST’s numbers guy but not out of the woods yet. We could use an “assist” from Coach Ken today. Go Navy!!!

  10. SteveM November 26, 2016 11:31 am

I’m home and going to the game. The last few years, the last game had no significance in terms of team standing so I usually booked a Thanksgiving cruise. Not this year. At the very least, Rolo, the coaches and players have made this season exciting to the end. Lots of motivation to win tonight, and a lot of pressure on us fans — Hawaii Bowl or Bust!

    GO WARRIORS!
    GO FOR BROKE!

  11. al November 26, 2016 11:36 am

As of yesterday, all we needed was a win.
    So just win baby.

  12. Maddog50 November 26, 2016 11:36 am

Hey I’m so jealous of those that can go-there is no other sport to me but CFB period. UNLV getting bonked by Nevada 10-0 first Qtr. Just win nothing else matters!

  13. Pride Rock November 26, 2016 11:46 am

    GO BOWS!

  14. truegreen November 26, 2016 11:59 am

#11 al: nope not yet. still need one more 5 win team to lose today. so far all of them have won. luckily Navy and Mississippi St are leading but it’s still not guaranteed until the game is over

  15. Old Diver November 26, 2016 12:00 pm

A win and a bowl berth would sure be a nice reward for the seniors who gave it their all these past seasons.

  16. truegreen November 26, 2016 12:01 pm

oh oh. Navy just fell behind and ole miss is pulling closer. coming down to nail biting time

  17. NorthShoreFan November 26, 2016 12:18 pm

    Aloha Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!

dang it the MW is like the Wacky WAC…SF taking Boise down!?!??

    Anyhoo, das good news…

UMass one tough cookie today…Warriors need to be focused and determined to pull it out.

    IMUA WARRIORS!

  18. truegreen November 26, 2016 12:18 pm

Navy takes back the lead 28-24 at the half.

  19. NorthShoreFan November 26, 2016 12:18 pm

    AF..

  20. NorthShoreFan November 26, 2016 12:20 pm

imho…Texas will be looking for a new HC after a couple of years..again. not sure why but it seems that program is “past their prime” already.

  21. cappie the dog November 26, 2016 12:25 pm

They can’t fire Paul Johnson now.

  22. Jenny Talls November 26, 2016 12:31 pm

Well your guy is wrong. We need to win and as of now, one of the last 9 potential bowl eligible teams to lose.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/5ej7mg/apr_rankings_for_potential_bowl_qualifiers/

  23. truegreen November 26, 2016 12:34 pm

Some breathing room now. Navy, Mississippi St, Wake Forest, Idaho, and UTEP are all leading right now. If just one of those win we control our bowl destiny with a win tonight.

  24. truegreen November 26, 2016 12:35 pm

    Thank you Jenny. Exactly

  25. burro sabio November 26, 2016 1:01 pm

    Navy isn’t going to lose

  26. Maddog50 November 26, 2016 1:08 pm

Again-I want a win! So 2nd place in our division is secure as UNLV is down 30-10 to Nevada and don’t look interested in playing! Now let’s go gettem!!!

  27. truegreen November 26, 2016 1:19 pm

Pretty amazing. At the start of today Hawaii needed just 1 out of 11 teams to lose to play for a bowl game tonight and so far the first 5 teams have won. Luckily it looks like we can count on Coach Niumatalolo to beat SMU.

  28. truegreen November 26, 2016 1:56 pm

Now it’s official! Coach Niumatalolo and Navy eliminates SMU from bowl contention opening the way for Hawaii to qualify for the Hawaii Bowl with a win tonight!!! Go Warriors!

  29. Boya_jr November 26, 2016 2:03 pm

    Let’s do this Warriors!

  30. Maddog50 November 26, 2016 2:28 pm

Boya_jr you been throwin the ball around to loosen up?

  31. Wes'side Warrior November 26, 2016 2:51 pm

    Aloha, Gang!
Well, no one responded to my question of tailgate spots the past couple of days. So we will just head out to the stadium and find our seats.
Bringing eight out of our nine… that’s as close as I can get, due to work schedules, etc. Wife and I will be in M-Blue (not Michigan Blue… and as long as she gets off on time), while most of our kids will be in the North Endzone area. Hope to see you all out there, celebrating a Warrior Win tonight!

  32. Wes'side Warrior November 26, 2016 3:24 pm

… and for those wondering… I gave up facebook for Lent, and never went back. s
So, my apologies if you all tried contacting me, and I never replied. Also changed my phone at that time too… too much real life drama that needed to be avoided.

  33. Bryson November 26, 2016 4:18 pm

The crowd is looking very sparse today I just pulled into the stadium and found parking no problem, hopefully everyone expected a big crowd so they ate catching shuttles and that’s why the lot is only half full…we’re actually playing for something tonight

  34. z November 26, 2016 4:53 pm

    We get chance.

    Go Rainbow Warriors!!!

    Time to go bowling!!!

  35. Moocher November 26, 2016 5:55 pm

I hope there’s a way to watch the game online 🙁

It’s pretty ridiculous if the marketing plan is to go to Asia and no one in Asia can even see the game.
Praying for a link to watch the game…

  36. Moocher November 26, 2016 6:00 pm

    anyone broadcasting on periscope?

  37. azwarrior22 November 26, 2016 6:01 pm

Has the game started yet? Nothing on ESPN1420?

  38. Warrior Fan November 26, 2016 6:02 pm

Is there a link to watch tonight’s game for us in the mainland?

  39. Moocher November 26, 2016 6:07 pm

    found a link on periscope
    https://www.periscope.tv/w/1LyGBOovXmbJN?q=hawaii#

  40. azwarrior22 November 26, 2016 6:17 pm

In that link, the video is not so good…is Hawaii the dark jerseys?

  41. azwarrior22 November 26, 2016 6:18 pm

Why isn’t ESPN1420 broadcasting the game?

  42. Akamai Okole November 26, 2016 6:31 pm

    A-house,

    They tried yer play.
QB faked middle…ran wide and pitched it.
    SMH

  43. barak181 November 26, 2016 6:31 pm

ESPN 1420 is broadcasting. I’ve been listening to it the entire game.

  44. Akamai Okole November 26, 2016 6:33 pm

I see BC in the radio booth talking

  45. Maddog50 November 26, 2016 6:35 pm

NM routing Wyo-Csu up on SDSU and watching Warriors!!!?

  46. azwarrior22 November 26, 2016 6:39 pm

Then for some reason on the mainland, you just hear them talk about Texas firing Charlie Strong.

  47. barak181 November 26, 2016 6:41 pm

Ok, seriously. With the glut of false start penalties this year – how many is it on the players lack of discipline and how many of it is on the coaches? Namely, Chris Naeole.

  48. Buffoman November 26, 2016 6:48 pm

The way we look one could say this is what teams look like in their first game of the season. Problem is, this is our last. Stupid penalties is just an unforgivable sin, and we keep making them.

  49. cappie the dog November 26, 2016 7:16 pm

Nevada used to charge money for webcasts that looked like this.

  50. Bryson November 26, 2016 7:38 pm

Anyone know if Tui Unga is injured,I don’t see him dressed or on the sidelines

  51. islandman November 26, 2016 8:16 pm

    https://www.periscope.tv/w/1YpJkAZrZyVKj

  52. Buffoman November 26, 2016 8:17 pm

I can understand why Lempa was so upset. That was an interception that turned into touchdown for U Mass.

  53. Buffoman November 26, 2016 8:24 pm

Here we go again. Another fumble by Dru and an ensuing touchdown by the opponent. Terrible. We should be better at this stage of the season.

  54. cappie the dog November 26, 2016 9:00 pm

I want to tell the UMass fans on the guerrila feed that Carl Yastremszski’s son made the last out for the Islanders in Aloha Stadium.

  55. Buffoman November 26, 2016 9:33 pm

Up two touchdowns and the me is not secured. Game now tied as they score two TD s with some ease. Painful.

  56. cappie the dog November 26, 2016 9:37 pm

    Scored too quickly.

  57. Maddog50 November 26, 2016 10:20 pm

Penalties made this a game. Glad for the win-when will it just stop, some of the penalties lead to scores and took points off the board. UMass is not a bad team at all and played well

  58. z November 26, 2016 10:48 pm

Rigo actually missed one. Talk about drama. Another game where it ended with a defensive stand. So how many games before Rolo!s hair is all white?

Way to go Rainbow Warriors! Now let’s finish with a win.

  59. NorthShoreFan November 26, 2016 11:12 pm

Heck of a game. Wan’t pretty but save pretty for the beauty pageants. Warriors played like Warriors tonight. Fought all the way.
Will have to wait for bowl invite.
Some untimely penalties of the concentration variety made it more interesting than need be.
    Bottom line…Warriors Win!…IMUA!

  60. cocobean November 26, 2016 11:36 pm

This season was like watching a one year old learning to walk. Progress was measured in baby steps. I fully expect the team to mature into a fully energetic two year old with fewer falls and the drive to start running.

  61. H-Man November 27, 2016 12:31 am

Warriors win; feel good. Congratulations to the staff and players. But in retrospect, our secondary got burned again and again, and there were waayyyyy toooo many penalties. ….again. And Dru had another fumble. When will these stop?

  62. Ohana Hawaii November 27, 2016 3:26 am

Great Season Warriors! if you don’t get a bowl game bet!. It’s might be course by poor performance in the last two victory of the season. But anyway put up your head!. Be proud wharf a great season this year were!. Because remember this in all Sport’s magazines! Plus the Mountain West Conference meeting that? That they have picked the University of Hawaii football program to finish the season in last place in the West division in the Mountain West Conference. Now! Coach Rolovich, I hope you go out to get some new assistant coaching staff in the defense and offensive!. But most of all a offensive coordinator is a most in case something could happen to you?. Because they’re is a lot’s of Coaches out there now!. Because all those coaches or being fired like Strong and so many more! Now the Oregon head coach is might be next to go!. He will be a great Assistant Head Coach and your new offensive coordinator too!. Because he runs same formation like the University of Hawaii football program do!. If not the University of Hawaii football program will have the same like this season or worst next years to come!. So good luck warriors!

  63. LizKauai November 27, 2016 3:55 am

Exciting game with a great outcome. Hope there is more to come.
    Go, Rainbow Warriors!

  64. Maddog50 November 27, 2016 4:52 am

So a solid number 2 in our division. Yesterday was a struggle but before anyone gets too critical UNLV at home Senior Night blasted 45-10, Wyoming routed by NM and finally the proud and staunch Aztecs on Senior Night at home get routed by CSU. Couple that with AF beating the Broncos and our win does not look as some might think!!!!!! A sincere thanks to Tom K and Kyle for all their effort that allowed some of us to see the game! Proud Warrior as always!!!!

  65. oldcoach November 27, 2016 6:11 am

Great win last night, way to suck it up and get the win. Coach Rolo and staff way to breath life back into the program, and we look forward to seeing the seniors in there one and only bowl game.

That being said your greatest challenge has now begun, recruiting and developing the next group to play with your FULL VISION on what RAINBOW WARRIOR football should be!

The honeymoon is over and now the clock is ticking as it is for all D1 head coaches, we wish you and your player the best of luck and our prayers are with you all!

    Congrats to Bows.
Lots of high scoring games around the nation.
And a lot of ranked teams lost.
Western Michigan should be number one…

  68. Akamai Okole November 27, 2016 7:41 am

    Great Morning All!

Good fun watching the Kardiac Kanak Attak!

Reports in the S-A say we bowling.

Nothing on the Hawaii Bowl site.

    🙄

  69. oneseason November 27, 2016 7:47 am

What a difference a year makes. Last season, UH (0-8 in conference) had only one win … against a struggling Colorado (1-8 in conference) team. This year, UH (4-4 in conference) placed second in its Division with 6 wins, and Colorado (8-1 in conference) leads their Division in the PAC-12 with 10 wins. It is great that the seniors will be going Bowling after 4 years of never coming close. And it sounds like UH will get an extra 15 practices with the bowl game, and that their new players should benefit a lot from the added experience. I am hopeful that stability in the coaching staff will continue the significant improvement that we saw this year for the Rainbow Warriors.

  70. Inyoface November 27, 2016 8:06 am

Another game another Dru fumble. What’s up with all the false starts?

  71. Whats up? November 27, 2016 8:27 am

I can’t believe some people can’t just enjoy the win AND a season that far exceeded expectations… So and so fumbled, so and so missed a PAT, so and so had a false start we’re 6-7, the OC and DC made a bad call…Jez… A win is a win. People…a perfect game is a win. Have we already forgotten the last few seasons? Outstanding job coaches and team! Hawaii Bowl bound!

  72. H-Man November 27, 2016 8:36 am

Inyo…the crowd was so huge and making so much noise, Dejon couldn’t hear the snap count…three times. Dru fumblelitis will never go away because of the way he carries the ball when running.

  73. 3-Prong November 27, 2016 8:45 am

Priderock on display for the 20,000 loyal and for those watching on TV at Aloha Stadium last night….

Go Bows…. now where is the invitation? hehe

  74. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2016 9:32 am

Good Morning Gangeez! Safe to say Pride has returned to the Rock!

The team has done far better than expected, we have a shot at a bowl game, the kids are having fun and so are the fans!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  75. Wes'side Warrior November 27, 2016 9:42 am

    Aloha, Gang!
Was a crazy game last night.
We gave up real estate in huge chunks all night, but at least we made that final stand when we had to. Too much squeezing!
And the penalties… especially to have three false starts from the same guy throughout the game. No can. Plus the personal fouls… seriously. And the majority of our penalties came at the worst time.
And we got lucky on Dru’s first scramble, that they didn’t bat the ball out of his hand. They did get it later in the game, though.
Anyways… was so good to be in the stadium again… live and in person. And to have 8 out of 9 of my gang there. Happy for the Warriors, and the Seniors, to hang on for that win.
This is a great Sunday! Mahalo, Warriors!

  76. Inyoface November 27, 2016 10:29 am
