Game day: Tennessee Martin

A few things to know about the Warriors’ home-opening opponent:

> Martin is located in West Tennessee, a 2 1/2-hour drive from Nashville. The population is 10,515; UT Martin’s enrollment is 7,910.

> The Skyhawks have a unique logo. It actually features two hawks facing each other to form one bird. If you cover one side of the picture, you’ll see the profile picture of the hawk.
skyhawks

> Jason Simpson inherited a program that, at one point, lost 45 conference games in a row. In the 10 years since, the Skyhawks have been one of the more successful Ohio Valley Conference teams.

> Simpson’s philosophy is this: Recruit freshman and let them “grow” into fifth-year seniors. They also add junior-college players to fit needs, and interested FBS transfers. There are 14 FBS transfers on the roster, including the top two quarterbacks. Gunnar Holcombe and UH quarterback Kyle Gallup were Marshall teammates last year. Troy Cook won a national championship with Florida State. OK, OK, Jameis Winston really won it for the Seminoles, but Cook, the third-stringer QB, still got a ring.

> The Skyhawks use a 3-3-5 defense that has similar — but not identical — qualities to San Diego State’s scheme. Three to watch: 1) Defensive end Damani Taylor; 2) linebacker Keith Prather; and 3) rover Kahlid Hagens, who made 15 tackles against Cincinnati last week.

> Credit Norm Chow for scheduling this game against an FCS opponent. Blame Chow for scheduling a team that led Cincinnati in the third quarter before imploding with three red-zone blanks.

  7. Whats up September 10, 2016 8:32 am

Michigan is blowing out UCF today. But UCF did score 14 points and it’s early in the 3rd quarter.

This should be an easy home game against a FCS opponent.

    Hawaii 63

    Tennessee Martin 3

  8. Maddog50 September 10, 2016 8:38 am

75 sunny low humidity. Watching a bunch of games but got to follow tonight’s on radio!!! Go Warriors

  9. Akamai Okole September 10, 2016 8:43 am

Depending on direction, 2-1/2 hours out of Nashville puts UT-M close to the Jack Daniels Distillery.

No wonder they see two birds! 😆

I went to Rock City (Georgia/Tennessee border), and from there you supposedly can see seven states. Well, there’s no real way to know what you’re seeing because there are no lines, like on a map. But it appears everything is near something in the South.

I heard a comment from an AD last week to the effect of: I wish we had a quarter of these facilities.

Reminded me that all is relative especially in CFB. When #1 son was describing his team’s facilities in La Grande, OR he made it seem kinda bleak…

until his former teammate came to town from their Dillon, MT school and immediately told my son, “Wow! You guys’ place is NICE!” 😯

  25. H-Man September 10, 2016 10:17 am

UCF out rushed Michigan, 275 yds to 119 yds. Speight had 4 passing TDs. UCF used two QBs and they passed for a combined 56 yds. UCF did what I was hoping Hawaii would do which was to have a successful running game and sound defense against the Wolverines. Speight is the big difference.

  26. GoBowsFromTheMainland September 10, 2016 10:24 am

Anyone have any word on how to view stream? Being able to stream every game during the chow era something I can actually say I miss if they’re taking that away. Know a lot of recruits and players families watched on the stream too, why take steps back?

Would like to see the defense shut out a team this year or maybe just 3 points.

  31. Ipu Man September 10, 2016 12:41 pm

Any0ne see refs take game away from Troy?
Clemson in red zone stood up by Troy stout defense,
ball squirts out and Troy heads the other way for sure td.
But ref said the whistle blew… wtf

  32. Ipu Man September 10, 2016 12:44 pm

And I’m sure I saw Michigan offensive lineman
horse collar a rushing defensive CU tackler
but nothing called. I would call that HOLDING…

  33. z September 10, 2016 12:44 pm

    Way to go coach Kenny.

  34. Jack Flash September 10, 2016 1:25 pm

I heard the Mountain West is streaming games on Twitter now.
    Go Warriors!

  35. kalua pig September 10, 2016 1:28 pm

the only thing i credit norm chow for is running a program to rock bottom.

  36. Stephen Tsai September 10, 2016 1:29 pm

Speaking of lines, my peeps said UH is 12-point favorite (6 points at the half).

  39. ai-eee-soos September 10, 2016 1:56 pm

go to google for streaming link Hawaii vs UTM. cant/paste
don’t kno if it will work for you

  40. H-Man September 10, 2016 2:33 pm

    Game Day. Go Warriors !!!

  41. cocobean September 10, 2016 2:34 pm

The only thing I gathered from the first two games is that the team is not good enough to take anyone lightly. My gut feeling is the team is going to make 2-3 40yards + plus plays. We got 4-5 playmakers capable of busting some long ones.

Ikaika has got to stay out of 3rd and four or longer . He has yet to consistently show he’s able to convert them.

  42. WarriorNY September 10, 2016 2:57 pm

I’ll try to find a link later. I’ll post my email address if I find a good one….

  43. SC September 10, 2016 3:00 pm

This game will be closer than I thought previously. I suspect that Hawaii will win by 14 and cover the spread. I also suspect that Hawaii will run the ball between 60%-70% in this game in order to control the clock.

  44. RatMin September 10, 2016 3:00 pm

GO WARRIORS! Gotta work but will be listening to the game on ESPN 1420.

  45. NYUHTX September 10, 2016 3:13 pm

Mountain Waste not streaming? Or is OC not sharing?

  46. z September 10, 2016 3:29 pm

LSU starting quarterback was struggling the first 2 series and the offense stalled. After Jackson State kicked a fieldgoal to go up 3 -0, Les Miles changed quarterback. New qb came in made some nice throws a moved his team into the endzone. Since then the momentum of the game has changed. Amazing what replacing one player can do.

  47. Inyoface September 10, 2016 3:39 pm

Alabama uses a 2 qb system, not sure what the big deals is about only using one.

  48. tom September 10, 2016 3:48 pm

    GOOD AFTERNOON, HAWAII!
The Alabama game was really something. The talking heads mentioned that the freshman Alabama QB could lead his team to the National Title.

    Maybe Tua should take notice.

  49. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 3:52 pm

    Howzit Tsaikos,

For my mainland braddahs and sistahs, if you search Hawaii football live stream on youtube there are a couple feeds. We’ll see if they work. I hope they do work cuz the wahine VB is streamed via youtube.

  50. Maddog50 September 10, 2016 3:59 pm

If anybody finds a feed we become friends forever. Getting drunk on FB all day-watching UNLV and NM game before moving to SDSU!!!

  51. oneseason September 10, 2016 4:17 pm

UH used to have streaming links for WVB, and affordable streaming football. Then the previous AD basically arranged another bid deal for the new contract. I think streaming went away after the new contract. Regardless though, this shows how important it is to put the stuff you want into the contract.

  52. Akamai Okole September 10, 2016 4:30 pm

Kilani Sitake is not having a good day…

two Cougs ejected for targeting on really marginal calls. 😈

Talking heads call it out for what it is…litigation protection

  53. DaveLetterMan September 10, 2016 4:52 pm

    Let’s go Warriors!
Bad news, OC Sports not sharing:
    https://twitter.com/mountainwest/status/774786145301336064

  54. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 4:56 pm

Man I really hate Oceanic. They have always been bad for Hawaii sports. Let them do what they want with high school games. But UH needs to figure out a way to get rid of them. For all the fans on the mainland we are trying to watch to support them but are being blocked due to Oceanic being greedy and wanting to own the market. Thats bad business for UH.

  55. Tazer September 10, 2016 5:50 pm

There should something out there for you folk (out side of Hawaii) Just wait the game start then do your search thing. And good luck.

  56. WarriorNY September 10, 2016 5:50 pm

    I can’t find another feed at all… I will keep looking…

  57. Hilo-WArrior September 10, 2016 5:54 pm

Has there been announcement on the amount of fans in the stadium? Or for you tasiko’s at the stadium, whats your guess?

  58. tom-warriornation September 10, 2016 6:11 pm

can’t believe there is no live streaming; auwe for all mainland fans!!!

  59. Buffoman September 10, 2016 6:19 pm

The defense still struggling. Why did they throw when their running was killing us. Good for us. Lucky they decided to throw.

  60. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 6:20 pm

I would assume that UH was stacking the box and they tried to pull a fast one.

  61. islandman September 10, 2016 6:21 pm

    Charter bought Oceanic Time Warner.

  62. z September 10, 2016 6:33 pm

Woolsey playing good. The others need to step up their game and they are. TD. Now defense plug those holes.

  63. tom-warriornation September 10, 2016 6:33 pm

Hawaii touchdown on radio almost as good as seeing it live; but not.

  64. tom-warriornation September 10, 2016 6:35 pm

Grambling leads Arizona 21-3 at half in Tucson. Grambling has 303 total yds offense, AZ only 230.

  65. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 6:39 pm

Hey Tom, I was looking at the stats from last weeks game. They weren’t that hot either. Hopefully UH gets on a hot streak starting with that last TD and 3 n out.

  66. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 6:40 pm

    Make a QB change now.

  67. tom-warriornation September 10, 2016 6:43 pm

No live streaming of Hawaii home games is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

How can we get good recruits from the mainland if their families cannot watch their sons play in home games???? Who is responsible for this screwup?

Not to mention, there are thousands of mainland/overseas fans that are willing to pay $15-20 each for this live streaming!

  68. WarriorNY September 10, 2016 6:44 pm

    Tom—
    I could not agree more!!!

  69. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 6:45 pm

Listening to ESPN1420 is not the same as a live feed.

  70. Inyoface September 10, 2016 6:46 pm

    Take #11 out! Pau already!

  71. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 6:49 pm

DB or AZ…need to make QB change…don’t wait for the half !!

  72. oneseason September 10, 2016 6:49 pm

#61 … That is a good example of why contracts are so important. But the Charter purchase was in Spring 2016, but streaming of ppv games ended quite a few years ago. I think it cost $10, but am not sure.

  73. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 6:51 pm

I always said it when I grew up back home. Oceanic is just a greedy company in an isolated market. They get to monopolize the market. And its wrong. But when this contract was last agreed upon the AD allowed this.

I really want UH to allow K5 provide this for free and expand the market of UH football. Correct me if I’m wrong because I was still in middle school when JJ got hired, but didn’t he try to get Fox to air UH games?

  74. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 6:53 pm

Defense porous, offense uninspiring. Make QB change now !!!

  75. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 6:53 pm

#72 we were able to watch all games on the MWC network via campus insiders the last 3 years as well.

  76. 808 September 10, 2016 6:54 pm

We’ll see if Rolo makes a QB change.

  77. Buffoman September 10, 2016 6:56 pm

If I was U T Martin I would run until UH could stop our run game. We getting schooled by their run game. No need pass.

  78. WarriorNY September 10, 2016 6:57 pm

    @Hilo,
Yes, Fox Sports West 2 had games when I was living in Cali over ten years ago…

This blows… I don’t know how much more of Curran I can take…

  79. z September 10, 2016 6:59 pm

Hawaii defense getting man-handled by a FCS team.

  80. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 7:00 pm

we need to bring in a QB that can make plays !!! Make the QB change now.

  81. 808 September 10, 2016 7:02 pm

Wow. 17-7 T-M. I hope it’s not another blowout game. By an FCS school?

  82. Buffoman September 10, 2016 7:02 pm

Wow, this is not a “big time” program. They look good. We don’t at the moment.

  83. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 7:02 pm

I hope Rolo understands that everyone is expendable. If its not broken don’t fix it, I get that. But we are obviously broken on offense. I don’t judge our coaches decisions, but make a change. Even the P5 schools are making changes left and right.

  84. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 7:04 pm

    3 and out…we stink !

  85. 808warrior September 10, 2016 7:08 pm

    Good change

  86. 808 September 10, 2016 7:09 pm

If Woolsey had another year, he’d probably start again next year.

Maybe next year is the new beginning. UH is losing to an FCS team!

  87. Coach DB September 10, 2016 7:09 pm

Hopefully these coaches will make some personnel changes, and put some young players in who are excited too play. Both offense and defensive sides of the ball!!! Start developing these new recruits now!!!

  88. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 7:09 pm

    DB gets it done.

  89. 808warrior September 10, 2016 7:09 pm

    There you go! TD Lakalaka!

  90. 808 September 10, 2016 7:10 pm

There you go. The score is still within reach

  91. z September 10, 2016 7:10 pm

Boom Lakalaka. This is the back we should start.

  92. Hank September 10, 2016 7:11 pm

    Mahalo Coach!

  93. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 7:11 pm

now Defense will be inspired because of our new QB play.

  94. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 7:12 pm

Lets see if this was the spark of momentum we needed to get to take the wind out of the sails of UTM.

  95. tom-warriornation September 10, 2016 7:13 pm

Touchdown Lakalaka! Credit the OL & new QB read also.

  96. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 7:15 pm

What hurts is UTM has 2219 TTL yards to UH 114.

  97. Coach DB September 10, 2016 7:20 pm

Gotta get some real athletes in this next recruit class, were needing

    about 6 REAL athletes POOKIES-JUNEBUGS!!

Try Juco’s they will come over!!!

  98. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 7:28 pm

Start AZ in the second half.

  99. warriorfan September 10, 2016 7:32 pm

We look just like we look last year on offense, Rolo needs to start calling plays and stop letting his best friend do it. Only 110 yards in TO against a FCS team, this is sad…

Is there a worse play by play announcer in the world than Bobby Curran, God he is awful. Forced to listen to him because I live on the mainland and Oceanic is screwing everybody!!

  100. RB September 10, 2016 7:38 pm

Ever since they went back to ” Rainbow Warrior” they never looked good. Maybe its time to drop “Rainbow” JMHO

  101. z September 10, 2016 7:38 pm

If coach looking for playmakers this would be the game. If we can’t find we will be in deep kimchee the rest of the season.

  102. Inyoface September 10, 2016 7:43 pm

I’m starting to think the players don’t have faith in IW.

  103. Inyoface September 10, 2016 7:45 pm

Zeal Hill doing pretty good at Boise

  104. Inyoface September 10, 2016 7:45 pm

    *Zac

  105. tom-warriornation September 10, 2016 7:50 pm

we should use the reserve OL for our DL; to see if that can make a difference! we need drastic changes to our Defense NOW & offense! Use anyone red-shirting to help; we need game changers now–the future is now! How about trying COLE BROWNHOLTZ; I want to see him play in a real game–he can be a game changer with his running!

  106. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 7:53 pm

Bad mistake to start IW in second half.

  107. z September 10, 2016 7:53 pm

    Triple coverage.

  108. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 7:54 pm

    Get him out of there…2 picks…..UGH !!!

  109. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 7:54 pm

Why in the world is Woolsey back in the game?

  110. 808 September 10, 2016 7:56 pm

Interception again. It’s like UH is playing with 10 players and Woolsey plays for the opposing team.

So much for the 1st possession in the 2nd half.

  111. Hank September 10, 2016 7:56 pm

    #92 I take it back.

  112. 808warrior September 10, 2016 7:57 pm

IW thanks but time to move on.

  113. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 7:58 pm

All offensivethis half,Warriors; please don’t lose this game!!!!!

  114. Inyoface September 10, 2016 7:59 pm

    #109 No idea

  115. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 8:00 pm

What does Rolo see in IW? IW doesn’t have the “IT” factor. He’s like deer with headlights. Bring in AZ.

  116. WarriorNY September 10, 2016 8:01 pm

Wow, San Diego St. is up on Cal….

Sigh, I hope we can get something together…

  117. 808 September 10, 2016 8:02 pm

If he keeps Woolsey in, it’s all on the coach.

Let’s see if he stays with Woolsey for the next possession.

  118. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:03 pm

azwarrior22, Rolowitz sees himself in Ikaika. Givin’ that playah the chances Coach R. missed.

  119. Inyoface September 10, 2016 8:04 pm

If he keeps Woolsey in he’ll be doing the same mistake Chow did.

  120. WarriorNY September 10, 2016 8:04 pm

    Aye…

  121. 808warrior September 10, 2016 8:05 pm

    Defense ? One more touchdown!!

  122. WarriorNY September 10, 2016 8:05 pm

    Zwahlen?

  123. 808 September 10, 2016 8:05 pm

TD T-M. It doesn’t look good. It looks like a repeat of last year. I hope Rolo changes the QB for next series on offense.

    Defense is really bad!

  124. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 8:06 pm

IW couldn’t get it done as a sophomore, IW couldn’t get it done as a Junior, and IW isn’t getting it done as a Senior. So what conclusions can we draw from this??? IW can’t get it done !!!

  125. Inyoface September 10, 2016 8:07 pm

    Bench #11 forever

  126. MattO September 10, 2016 8:07 pm

I take back what I said about being sad that there’s no streaming option… Listening to this is painful enough.

  127. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:07 pm

WarriorNY. How you? How’s your health and family, bruddah? It’s been longer than Sauron’s One Ring went missing, my goodness.

  128. 808 September 10, 2016 8:08 pm

Okay, IW is in the game again.

  129. WarriorNY September 10, 2016 8:11 pm

Everything is good CG… Thanks for asking…

    This game is getting annoying…

  130. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 8:11 pm

I don’t care who is in the game. Don’t put Woolsey back in. Come on. I believed the Rolo was the change. But nothing new is happening at all.

  131. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 8:12 pm

OMG, IW is so BAD !!!

  132. cappie the dog September 10, 2016 8:13 pm

Grambling is playing the wrong quarterback.

  133. Inyoface September 10, 2016 8:13 pm

    He’s back in! Wtf!

  134. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 8:14 pm

Come on coach we got a break. Show us there is change. Nope! Woolsey is back. Damn…..

  135. 808warrior September 10, 2016 8:14 pm

    Touchdown! Still replace IW

  136. 808 September 10, 2016 8:14 pm

TD Hawaii! Now if the defense can hold, we have a game.

  137. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 8:14 pm

WTF, I’m getting disillusioned with IW’s play.

  138. MattO September 10, 2016 8:14 pm

    TD! Oh thank goodness…

  139. z September 10, 2016 8:14 pm

TD DSJ. Just run the ball.

  140. 808 September 10, 2016 8:15 pm

I think Rolo will stay with Woolsey no matter what happens.

  141. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:16 pm

I have spoken to acquaintances and their cohorts, who have seen Hawai’i in action with the past two games. If a Grease can precipitate their collective reaction, it is akin to becoming impressed with the glassesed-assumed-4.0-student’s bustin’ out of a break dance move(s)—unexpected, but, sorely appreciated.

Hawaii football has support the world round (i.e., “internationally).

    Let’s have a win, Warriors!!!!!

  142. Inyoface September 10, 2016 8:16 pm

TD from running but when we can’t run against a team we’re in trouble if IW is in.

  143. WarriorNY September 10, 2016 8:17 pm

Donnel Pumphrey has 280 yards for San Diego State right now… Looks like SDS will upset Cal…

  144. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 8:17 pm

Demote IW to the Scout team.

  145. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 8:18 pm

Lets go Warriors!!! Play Warriors!!! Lets finish this thing strong!!!

  146. WarriorNY September 10, 2016 8:18 pm

I’m writing about San Diego State because I can’t freakin’ watch this game!

  147. oneseason September 10, 2016 8:18 pm

#75 … Thank you. I had forgotten that.

  148. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 8:19 pm

Is it me, or will the common question for Rolo this week be in regards to his decision to keep Woolsey in the game.

  149. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:20 pm

azwarrior22, think the conundrum is . . . if not Ikaika, then, who?!?!?!?!?

  150. seewhy September 10, 2016 8:20 pm

RB, you think a name change made UH suck?? SMFH. Ever thought about terrible recruiting?

  151. Hilo-Warrior September 10, 2016 8:22 pm

Sounds like a great stop by our Defense.

  152. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 8:23 pm

anybody but IW…he’s too predictable and uninspiring. Let AZ have his chance.

  153. WarriorNY September 10, 2016 8:24 pm

DSJ is going to break one again… I think…

  154. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:25 pm

    27-24 Hawaii

Marcus Kemp our new Hawai’i hero!

  155. cappie the dog September 10, 2016 8:26 pm

    Good for you, #11.

    Keep fighting.

  156. MattO September 10, 2016 8:26 pm

FINALLY some chemistry. Keep. It. Going.

  157. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:28 pm

    ‘Bang! Bang!’
    I am
    The Warrior

    – Quarterflash

  158. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 8:32 pm

    3 picks, enuf said.

  159. 808 September 10, 2016 8:32 pm

3 interceptions by Woolsey. How long can the defense hold them?

  160. 808warrior September 10, 2016 8:34 pm

IW needs to be subbed out!

  161. 808 September 10, 2016 8:34 pm

I wonder who holds the record for most interceptions thrown by a Hawaii QB.

By the end of the year, Woolsey could break that record.

  162. 808warrior September 10, 2016 8:35 pm

IW is not able to see the field.

  163. MattO September 10, 2016 8:35 pm

Tough to win a game after 3 picks…

  164. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:36 pm

INT. Hawaii get ’em. Come on now, non-truebelievers.

  165. MattO September 10, 2016 8:37 pm

…unless your defense saves your okole. Again.

  166. obachan September 10, 2016 8:37 pm

Woolsey should not be making such bad reads given his game experience.

  167. Willie September 10, 2016 8:39 pm

#140, um SDSU Aztecs are favored over the Cal Golden Bears by 7 according to the oddsmakers. So this won’t be an upset if the Aztecs hold on.

  168. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 8:40 pm

This is like Ground Hog day…you keep putting in IW and he keeps doing the same thing, 3 and out or a pick. You can’t say he’s gaining more experience because he is a Senior that’s been with the program for 5 yrs. You can’t say he’s a leader because he doesn’t win. Being servicable is over-rated…it doesn’t get you wins.

Make a QB change for good…the future is NOW !!!

  169. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:40 pm

Rolowic sees himself in Woolsey; never discount that in a QB-oriented head coach.

  170. Whats up September 10, 2016 8:41 pm

San Diego State just beat Cal 45-40

  171. Willie September 10, 2016 8:42 pm

Unless Brown doesn’t have the playbook deep enough, don’t understand how a IW that is playing up to his dismal stats of more Ints vs TD’s still got the helm? The guy makes awful decisions, throws into double/triple coverage and telegraphs his throws to his first option so much. Someone tell me that he is the best option to win?

  172. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:44 pm

Oh. This is like comic book superheroism for the Warriors right about now. Carrying opponent on back.

  173. 808warrior September 10, 2016 8:46 pm

Run and eat up the clock!

The least IW touches the ball better yet!

  174. RB September 10, 2016 8:47 pm

#147 im saying ever since they went back to that name they sucked. Maybe it is the recruiting. It’s terrible probably cause of the rainbow name. im just saying!!!

  175. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 8:47 pm

Rolo became a player after he was benched. IW has been benched over and over again in his career but keeps coming back, like the Eveready bunny…So this much you can say that IW is resilient and servicable, BUT he doesn’t win !!!

  176. z September 10, 2016 8:48 pm

And that’s why you play Lakalaka. The defense comes up to stop him and boom wide open Unga.

  177. MattO September 10, 2016 8:48 pm

Can say what you want, but that TD pass was beautifully set up.

  178. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:49 pm

    We got 35-24 going Hawaii’s way. Let’s give a big ups,please?

  179. cappie the dog September 10, 2016 8:50 pm

    Quarterflash was “Harden My Heart”.

I think you’re talking about Scandal.

Both female leads have the big hair.

    Easy mistake to make.

  180. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:52 pm

OK, everybody be cool, stay vool, Hawaiians, still get the lead, two pint conversion attempted by Skyhawks when fail, relax, don’t do it.

  181. z September 10, 2016 8:53 pm

    Put in Santiago.

  182. MattO September 10, 2016 8:53 pm

Man… making this way harder for ourselves than we have to.

  183. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:53 pm

cappie, you ae correct. A Grease stands corrected. S/b Scandal.

  184. azwarrior22 September 10, 2016 8:54 pm

Keep bringing in IW to hand off the ball. If we have to throw, we’re screwed.

  185. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 8:56 pm

    * cool, not vool
    * point, not pint

  186. z September 10, 2016 8:56 pm

    No ints please.

  187. Willie September 10, 2016 8:59 pm

#157, unfortunately Timmy Chang has the NCAA record for Ints that will probably never. E broken. Now unlike IW he threw for a ton of TD’s and was a very good Rainbow QB!

  188. Whats up September 10, 2016 9:03 pm

Why is Rolo sticking with Woolsey… is Chow calling the plays… running the dive play over and over.

  189. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 9:04 pm

    Aiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeee!

  190. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 9:05 pm

    Plenny time. Be cool, all.

  191. Buffoman September 10, 2016 9:07 pm

Our tackling is beyond woeful. Terrible. Special teams kick and punt coverages both kicking and receiving is not good. Holding, blocking in the back, and missed tackles just below par.

  192. MattO September 10, 2016 9:09 pm

    Dear Bows,

Please don’t give the ball away again.

    Mahalo,
    MattO

  193. 808warrior September 10, 2016 9:17 pm

IW not so good on the 2 pt, not so good

  194. Chicken Grease September 10, 2016 9:48 pm

Moral today: it is good to be positive about things. And work hard.

    Thank you.

Next week . . . Wildcat will be dined ‘pon.

  195. hossana September 10, 2016 10:14 pm

Everybody getting excited cuz Hawaii beat Tenn.-Martin. Beeeg Deal!! Hawaii was just pathetic in their win….not even excited because we won and don’t accuse me of being negative. Hawaii was just pathetic and don’t use Norm Chow as an excuse. Just tired of media, fans, whateva blaming Chow when things go South…after two games, defense…offense….tackling…offensive and defensive lines….horrible…yeah, we won…and Ikaika came through at the end but against a half way decent team, Hawaii would have gotten CRUSHED….even though teams like Troy, Western Ky., Nevada etc. lost, they would have rolled over Hawaii….now where is the positive….Arizona just got by Grambling so listening to the fans in the parking lot saying we have a chance…WOW….THAT’S ENCOURAGING but then again, Grambling would have SMOTHERED Hawaii every way possible but THERE IS HOPE for next week SO WATCH OUT Arizona…..HERE WE COME……..!!!

  196. kev-1 September 10, 2016 10:48 pm

Hawaii pulled out the upset win over a big power house like Tennessee? Great!!! Oh wait. That was Tennessee Martin?

Hmmmm… yes, a win is a win. But thst bungee cord leash on Woolsey needs to snap back already. He is not the answer. Decision making is still terrible. Continuously throws into multiple coverage, and has poor mobility for an athletic looking guy.

Glad for the win, but the reality is hard to accept.

  197. H-Man September 10, 2016 10:53 pm

What a great win! We had fun watching this game. Very entertaining. Go Warriors !!!

  198. AlaWai September 10, 2016 11:41 pm

Patience. It may take some time, but success will come one game at a time.

  199. 3-Prong September 11, 2016 12:04 am

Plany nail bitin’ tonite but got a W. Big play were made when we needed them. Its just that we created too many needs for ourself.

  200. cocobean September 11, 2016 12:05 am

I was at the game the overall impression I got is it’s not that we’re a good or bad team. It seemed to me we have a minimum amount of physical talent be it size, strength, speed or quickness. We got some players with some of those attributes but not enough of them. This lack of overall talent filters down to our kick coverage and kick return teams.

We really got to play mistake free and get mentally tougher as a team to be able to compete with the teams left on the schedule.

  201. 3-Prong September 11, 2016 12:06 am

Still,…count me in as a “glass half full” guy. What about you? Monku?

    Enjoy the ride!

  202. kahuna September 11, 2016 12:17 am

Not only does IW have 3 picks. He only threw the ball 18 times and completed only 50% of his attempts. I can live with 3 picks on 54 attempts but 3 picks on only 18 attempts?

Dude was horrible. On a couple of his TD passes…..his receivers were WIDE open and another pass was a shuffle pass so there weren’t many passes that he “threaded the needle “.

  203. cocobean September 11, 2016 12:45 am

To many the verdict on Ikaika is in – bench him. Brown played decent against Michigan, a game he was not shouldered with the pressure of trying to win a game. He has not shown me he is capable of playing a whole game mistake free. That he can flawlessly execute a good portion of the play book. An example of what I mean is on the shuffle pass play he ran. It was against a three man rush and he was not able to sell the play. He looked for the receiver way too early and the play was blown up. No one really knows if he can really make the proper reads when the outcome is still in doubt. I know Ikaika has a poor track record of making plays when needed and for making too many unforced errors but I’ll go with him until Rolo is convinced someone else gives us a better chance of winning.

  204. H-Man September 11, 2016 5:37 am

The only distressing part of the game, to me, were the many missed tackles. Coaching staff, can you fix this?

  205. LizKauai September 11, 2016 6:16 am

    Mahalo, Ke Akua

Nice to hear a W in Aloha Stadium again.
Maybe someday we can see a W too.

  206. 808 September 11, 2016 7:10 am

Woolsey seems like he will revert back the the mean with 50% completion rate. If he can just manage the game and cut down on errors, maybe Hawaii can win a few more games.

The defense is more of a concern this season. I hope they can cut down on errors on the defense.

It was said before this game that this game will be a better gauge for where Hawaii is located on the competitive scale.

Well, it shows Hawaii is really not that good yet. I hope in time Rolo can turn things around for the better.

Last night was a win. A win is always a good thing.

  207. Maddog50 September 11, 2016 7:21 am

Does anyone know if the game will be downloaded to you tube. Listened to the game on ESPN last night till 3 am. It was arduous to say the least listening to some of the commentary. Anyway a win is a win….tackling is a mental thing. Coach Rolovich said it best “you can’t throw dumb interceptions”. This team will get better and I just find it nothing short of profound what coach says about this team ie hoping you win instead of expecting to win. It takes time to build a winning culture-Go Warriors!!!!!!

  208. wafan September 11, 2016 7:28 am

    Maddog50 . . .

Arduous. You, sir, are being far too generous.

  209. Maddog50 September 11, 2016 7:35 am

Wafan-I know but my mother always said if you don’t have something nice to say then don’t say anything!

  210. Maddog50 September 11, 2016 8:01 am

MK-K #5 needs to know that the throat slash gesture is a personal foul for 15 yards. Could have cost them the game-not very bright

  211. oneseason September 11, 2016 8:21 am

Well, it was exciting football. It doesn’t look to me like Chow’s prevent offense. And maybe some good things to learn from the Grambling State – Arizona game … GS was up 21-3 at the half before losing 21-31. http://www.gsutigers.com/news/2016/9/11/football-a-tale-of-two-halves-g-men-fight-hard-drop-game-to-arizona-31-21.aspx

  212. H-Man September 11, 2016 8:43 am

Waaaa…….. Why so many negative comments? It was win where the team could have folded, but they didn’t. I think the players learned a lot about themselves; about grabbing the ring for the win. The defense made the plays down the stretch with the two sacks and the final interception. Man, it was exciting to be at the game. I lost my voice for yelling so much. It’s been such a long time that we, the fans, could celebrate a victory when it seemed to be slipping away. And my kuddos to the coaching staff for calling a great second half. Going on 4th and one at your own 29 is……crazy. But Rolo called it and Lakalaka delivered 13 yards. What a win!!!

  213. H-Man September 11, 2016 8:52 am

And no forget, today’s Wahine VB match against Washington is at 4 pm on Oceanic.

  214. Tempmanoa September 11, 2016 8:58 am

I watch some of our games each year on the mainland. Someone should look into this to see what is going on. It cannot cost much for Oceanic to stream its game feed on the Internet. A small charge like we paid in past years of $10-$15 should more than cover the cost. Is there some issue with the contract with the University that is causing this? Was streaming covered by the contract or is Oceanic trying to leverage something else from UH? How do other MWC schools stream their feeds to the MWC network?

  215. islandman September 11, 2016 9:32 am

Replay on OC Sports now, analog 16, 4th quarter

  216. Inyoface September 11, 2016 9:49 am

Will we win against better teams?

  217. clyde September 11, 2016 10:09 am

Nice to see Timoteo and Santiago get some meaningful minutes, though I believe they could still redshirt if needed. Interestingly, if Santiago makes that late-game pick, it could have likely been a 48-36 final … right on the reported local line.

  218. Rodney September 11, 2016 10:23 am

    We Won !!! Nuf said!!
    As for Chow
It’s his recruits and some of our run plays and play action
that worked last night was in
last year play book, even our
    formations.
    A Win is a Win!!!
    Thanks Rolo!!! And Team

  219. Former UH Athlete September 11, 2016 11:06 am

Sadly, what I witnessed last night was a team that has 3 wins max unless there are serious improvements.

UH struggled mightily to slow down an average FCS team at home. I knew defense was going to be an issue this season but this is a lot worse than I was expecting.

Offensively, the run game is clearly the strong suit of this squad. DSJ and Lakalaka both averaged well over 5ypc, which is solid. Rolo needs to make a change at QB. IW is just too inconsistent with his accuracy, decision making and awareness. He only completed 3 passes in the entire 2nd half. THATS IT!!!!

  220. Bryson September 11, 2016 11:11 am

Last time I checked the W-L doesn’t specify pretty or ugly it just says Win or Loss…The boys should be happy about this win they fought back from numerous miscues…with that said it they shouldn’t be excited about it because this win shows them the things they will need to work on going forward…but as Rolo said a Win is a Win…

  221. Walterm September 11, 2016 11:30 am

re: #210. I believe it wasn’t a throat slash. More of highlighting the Hawaii on the Jersey. At least I hope so

  222. NorthShoreFan September 11, 2016 11:44 am

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!

was nice seeing all the Tsaikos yesterday. Mahalo to Sailor Blue for making it possible. Great host!
Exciting game! Defense answered when it was time to.
Reminded me of some other teams who used to bend but not break and always answered the call when it was necessary to make a huge stop.
Now, time to get back to fundamentals on tackling and catching. Too many missed tackles and drops. Got to get better. Sun Devils will be a notch above UT-M.
    IMUA WARRIORS!

  223. NorthShoreFan September 11, 2016 11:47 am

every W will be a hard fought W.
Boom Lakalaka came up big, St. Juste ran hard…defense got busy when it was on the line. Start of something guud!

  224. NorthShoreFan September 11, 2016 11:49 am

    and….9/11….NEVER FORGET!
