Bradley lost for season

MOSCOW, IDAHO — Worse came to worst.

Wideout Rodney Bradley is undergoing surgery for a broken left leg, and he will miss the remainder of the season. He is expected to return to Honolulu Tuesday.

Bradley suffered the injury when he appeared to be leg-whipped by Idaho safety Shiloh Keo. After the game, Keo apologized for what he said was an inadvertent play. He also said: “He’s in my prayers.”

* * * * *

Greg McMackin said he takes full responsibility for the loss. But he said he is not to blame for the timeout taken in the final minute of the first half. The Warriors had just made a first down. He said the referee looked at him, and when McMackin nodded, he assumed it meant to call a timeout. McMackin said he did not call a timeout, but the officials would not reverse it.

* * * * *

Too many busted plays on defense.

* * * * *

* * * * *

Linebacker Josh Rice dyed his hair because he said he was tired of  being called “Goldilocks.”

    4 hours! Go Warriors!

I think its going to be a much better game than the last 2 for sure and warriors are gonna win.

Wish we could be there in person to support!

  7. whitey October 17, 2009 6:50 am

short yardage passes to pilares and salas sounds like a good beginning. bradley should start with his usual down the sidelines, but after a couple of does, he should fake the outside and go deep in the middle where he will be wide open. since our ol strenth is estes, pound a couple of running plays up the middle with green the lead blocker and moniz carrying the ball. give idaho things to think about the first 8 plays.

  8. βρεω808 October 17, 2009 6:50 am

A successful initial drive resulting in SEVEN points will be the key….along w/ a motivated D flying around like the 1st half of the Wazzu game…. 😯 😐

on defense, let loose one the lb and bump their receivers at the line of scrimmage. when i say bump, i mean hit em. this will give the pressure man time to truly put pressure on the qb. hustle back to line of scimmage after every play and show that you mean business. walking slow does exactly that, slows you down and you not ready for the next play. this is college ball, not the pros, so hustle.

  12. Maverick October 17, 2009 6:56 am

    I ditto Whitey’s Hur-Rah comment.

    Go WARRIORS!
    GO WILDCATS!

  13. whitey October 17, 2009 6:57 am

for special teams on kickoffs, no scared run over the blockers, run em over, so your teammates can make the play.

  14. wafan October 17, 2009 6:57 am

They will allow LWJ to run and mix in short passes and screens.

Our D will step it up and slow down their running game — sorry Kama!

  15. Maverick October 17, 2009 6:59 am

Aloha Pomai. Is it too late to post a score prediction?

    Warriors – 49
    Vandals – 32

  16. whitey October 17, 2009 7:04 am

no celebration for sacks, interceptions, or any other defensive plays. give the ball to the ref, run to the sidelines, then celebrate with your teammates. if the defense is on the field, offensive coordinator should be talking to the entire offense to make sure that know what plays, what routes, blocking, etc. As soon as there is a change from defense to offense, both teams hustle (no walking, run baby run). Show Idaho that you here to play football and you are what you want to be, WARRIORS!!!

  17. whitey October 17, 2009 7:08 am

same thing for offense, you celebrate on the sidelines, not on field while the game is still on. For the coaches, be organized, know what is going on the field and off, pay attention to your assignment, and most important talk to your players when they come off the field or getting ready to enter the game. Disorganization and miscommunication will kill you!!!!!!

good morning and good morning again.

usually don’t arm chair QB before nor after games, but since you ask………..add in a little more shovel passes. shovel, shuttle, shuffle, whatever….but need to add some so they don’t T off on the O-line.

on defense they have no choice but stop their running game first. no doubt thats what they’ll try to establish from the get go. not stop them cold but enough to make them pass, this means commiting a safety closer to the line.

  35. g-nalo October 17, 2009 7:44 am

Bighilofan2 – i can tell its game day, you have a great day too……..

  36. whitey October 17, 2009 7:44 am

porgot, for those coaches that are upstairs today, no only look at what is going on, but anticipate what Idaho will do. after you send down the info to the field, you should be planning and talking about the next play. in other words, get info out faster to field and if cannot, then switch places and have different set of eyes upstairs. the present way of info flow is too slow. so upstairs coaches, if the players are going to hustle, you have to hustle like them, then everyone is into the game and we can overcome the present stigma.

  60. Kazz (#1000 COMES TONIGHT!!!) October 17, 2009 8:52 am

A bit of a break from the football talk.

    Rainbow Warrior Basketball Practice Notes:

-Artie Wilson, some guy from Brand X, and about 25 fans attended the 1st practice of the 09-10 basketball season at Gym II, which provides quite a “cozy” atmosphere as you are pretty close to the players.

-No doubt the word stood true as there was an obvious difference in the 3 point attempts between our returners and Dwain Williams and Jeremy Lay. Also, Lay proved to be a very feisty defender on the perimeter which is good news since the departure of our best 1 on 1 defender last season in Kareem Nitoto.

-Bows had numerous slippage issues which prompted many “wipe-ups” on the court. At one point Williams, in turning to pivot at the top of the key slipped and stopped himself in “mid-split” causing him to wince over in a bit of pain to his groin, but he walked it out and was ok.

-Douglas Kurtz is HUGE. Like pro wrestler huge, but the difference is Kurtz will pass a drug test. 😉 I’m digressing… Anyway unlike some big men we’ve had recently Kurtz is proportionate in his 7 foot frame and appears to be in tremendous physical shape…….. unfortunately he had a large ice pack on his right knee for most of the practice and when he got up he appeared to walk around fine.

-Petras Balocka didn’t have exactly what I’d call a good practice as far as the 5-5 half court stuff as Coach Nash kept stopping play early on to remind Balocka of missed assignments and decision making in his passing game relevant to the flex motion offense which will apparently remain as the backbone of our offense.

-Bows worked on their transition game as they went through full court transition-type drills with added emphasis on NOT missing lay ups. Paul Campbell solved this by simply dunking all the time.

-Hiram Thompson as a healthy player 100% is whole different animal. The point guard position has been in peril the last two seasons and I think this may be solved somewhat if Thompson can get his field goal shooting down as Thompson has already shown that he’s not afraid to drive the basket when necessary. He did that fearlessly last season with a nagging injury and if he remains healthy this season, our offense will already be much more improved based on that alone. His 3 point game will get a make-over as well, or at least it appears it should as he worked with Lay and Williams at the end of practice 3 point shooting drills.

-Leroy Lutu can dunk! Leroy Lutu also has been hitting the weight room pretty hard as well. The physical conditioning of both he and Thompson showed up last night. Lutu should be able to contribute off the bench more so than last season.

-Arizona transfer Zane Johnson was there on crutches with a heavy knee brace on his surgically repaired knee.

-Ji Xiang appeared to have some difficulty in understanding positioning and I’m not basing this on my opinion, but just by the constant coaching and confusion he displayed last night when going through the offensive scheme in the half-court game. Several times Coach Wheeler had to bring Xiang aside for some extra coaching.

For the most part, the team looks to be in much better physical shape that last season as Flemings and Thompson weren’t 100% at the start of the camp. This time, aside from Kurtz and Johnson, everyone appears to be 100%.

Love the Bows, love watching basketball in person, but I’m not the greatest and noticing the “little” things of the game, but we’ll see how much Coach Nash will be willing to develop that full court, uptempo game with the addition of Williams and Lay.

Apparently the “starting” line up looked like this as of last night: Flemings, Williams, Thompson, Balocka, and Amis.

It was only the first practice so it’s hard to say who would compete for what, but the only “locked” positions of starters would be Flemings, Amis, and Thompson. Since Kurtz couldn’t play last night I don’t know what he’s like or what kind of competition he’d give Balocka at center. We’ve seen our bigs play some “soft” basketball in the past so I don’t know how physical Kurtz can be even though he looks as if he could kill a man 5Xs before he hit the ground.

Barring injuries, we should have more production off the bench than last season.

I dunno.. was just looking at the http://www.Zap2it.com tv schedule.

  69. al October 17, 2009 9:11 am

i think defensively we will come out aggressively. a lot blitzing, return to the nickelback blitzes, and the like. if anything we have been too soft on pressuring the qb. i think w/a pass first team like idaho we will address the rush right off the bat. moving blaze back to olb is something i have been waiting for. look for mana to have a breakout game.

offensively, a vastly improved moniz and company will “mo em down”. new found confidence in the running backs/game will also keep the all out rush tabled just enough to make plays. return of shovel pass, bubble screens, and inside screen will make a deep impact. then, finally we will see jovonte latch on to a couple of long ones. pilares will atone for last week’s dropsies.

Noticed a bit of a Hawaii connection in that Idaho’s starting defensive end #95 Aaron Lavarias (6-3 248 Jr.) is the son of former Kahuku HC Clarence Lavarias. He’s from Woodinville, WA. The Lavarias family was well known as a very athletic family from Waialua HS back in the 70’s. Bro Lyle played at Utah and Fred was the coach at Waialua.

You got me really excited there for a second Kazz. I imagined a nineteen year old Leroy Lutu Sr. running around the court at the Gym lower campus. The I realized that you’re talking about Jr. not Sr., and Sr. played football at Washington about 28 years ago.

I’ll be cheering for Jr. though, especially if he’s as good as his dad.

  76. A-House October 17, 2009 9:18 am

    ST:

On offense – first 3 or 4 plays should be “sutdent body right”, “sutdent body left” until Idaho stops UH. Then, do a 4-wide out formation and have a slot move to a RB position to form an “I” and run several plays which includes screens. Next, hit the receivers at short yardage and just let them run for YAC. Then, repeat until Idaho stops them.

Defense – I say go with “8-in the box” to stop the run and then call various changes such as LBs or DL dropping back into pass coverage
while LBs rush the line. Coaches use very simple motions such as 1-arm up or 2-arms up or arms folded against the chest, etc to signal defensive alingment. MLB must relay to the DL and LB, by pointing, who drops back and who charges the line of scrimmage. Coaches change the signals after a few series to throw Idaho off. Difficult, NO, must have great focus by UH defense. Therefore, before the game starts and during the game, the defensive unit must huddle to hear coaching instructions and this includes the back-ups as they can be called to go in at any moment. None of this shit of “lolly gaging and grab ass” along the side lines!

I wish Coach Mack would tell his staff, “enough of this bull shit. You guys work together or changes will be made at seasons end. You devise a scheme for the game or second half and brief me, as a group, why you can or can not support the DC/OCs plan.” If the plan sucks, then it’s up to Coach Mack to make OC/DC changes.

Sorry gang, but I’m revisiting my Army training for current and future operations.

I saw on ESPN.com that the Tennessee Titans lost their 2nd starting CB. That led me to find this article from today’s Tennesseean:

    http://www.tennessean.com/article/20091017/SPORTS01/910170326/2072/SPORTS

With Cortland Finnegan (hamstring) not expected to play and Nick Harper (broken forearm) out of the lineup, Mouton and McCourty are likely to be the starting cornerbacks against one of the NFL’s best passing attacks.

  80. Kazz (#1000 COMES TONIGHT!!!) October 17, 2009 9:21 am

    Pride,

Lutu Jr. made a lot of believers out of him from last season. Hard to believe he is on “walk on” status, but I think that had more to do with timing than anything.

The kid is an athlete, with a little bit of pi*s and vinegar in him. He’s gotten stronger this season. If anything he’ll make a difference in games by his defensive play and/or drawing fouls as he’s right up there with Hiram Thompson as far as his ability driving to the net and the vision to do so when it’s necessary.

  81. duffer (iPhone) October 17, 2009 9:22 am

A Warrior victory and a bolo head Stretch….priceless.

    Tackle, tackle, tackle.
    Execute on offense

  82. Shannon October 17, 2009 9:24 am

    @ A-House: RIGHT ON BRADDAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  83. Kazz (#1000 COMES TONIGHT!!!) October 17, 2009 9:24 am

    Landry Jones sucks.

Can a 3 loss OKU team remain in the Top 25????

    It wouldn’t surprise me… 🙄

  84. Kazz (#1000 COMES TONIGHT!!!) October 17, 2009 9:26 am

Sooners get the ball back… so what??

    Landry Jones can’t move air.

(I’m trying to keep my mind off the anticipation of the Idaho game…)

  86. LizKauai [iMac] WARRIORS! IMUA! October 17, 2009 9:30 am

OK- off the join Kymry and the gang!

    Latahs!

  87. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 9:30 am

This is it! This is where the Warriors draw the line in the turf… dig their feet in and turn the season around!!!

    WARRIORS IMUA!!!

    Go for broke! WHOOOOOTAH!

  88. LizKauai [iMac] WARRIORS! IMUA! October 17, 2009 9:32 am

Hi Kawika- thanks for the Idaho/Hawaii connect!

  89. Shannon October 17, 2009 9:34 am

    LOL @ shining light…
@ LizKauai: FINALLY!!!!!!!! was waiting for the boys to sport the all whites!!!Wait a minute…………last time they wore all white, they got LICKINS!!!!!! IN A DOME!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Hopefully today is different…MUCH different…

  90. innocent observer October 17, 2009 9:37 am

Agree that the warriors must blitz more often and gang tackle. They are not strong and fast enough to overpower the other teams. Sure, they might be burnt on some big plays, but lets hope that a risk-taking defense will also counter those by scoring some on its own, like interceptions, fumbles, etc.

Offensive wise, they should go to the short passes, in and out, as the offensive line cannot give the QB too much time for long passes. This would be better for Moniz since he does not have a strong arm but is quite accurate on shorter passes. In the red zone, they should find a big strong lineman and use him as the short yardage back.

  91. protector October 17, 2009 9:39 am

Good luck to the Warriors! (I’ll be watching at Genji)
Good luck to Dave Shoji (and team) in tryihng to win 1,000!
(We’ll be there at SSC to witness it)

  95. Saturday Morning QB October 17, 2009 9:57 am

    ST,

I say the warriors come out, see their own shadows, get scared, and then they scurry back under the mack’s butt.

Idaho takes a 28-0 lead in the first half.

In the second half, the warriors come out again, see their shadows again, and this time scurry for cover under robert’s butt, which provide ample shade and cover.

At the end, Idaho wins 58-0, and the warriors lick their non-existent wounds, wondering when things will change.

Robert and Mack high five and chest bump each other on another fine game.

Monday morning, UH fans clamor again for mack’s head. The clamoring gets louder and more ugly.

This is my Saturday morning analysis.

Suggestion: instead of the haka, UH should do the Faka.

  96. Koamahu October 17, 2009 9:58 am

How about put some football pads on the wahine volleyball, then we can beat and sweep idaho.
    Just a blog opinion thought.

  97. Koamahu October 17, 2009 10:06 am

Hey JJ why i nevah see u and homey at the Happy Day Parade in Disneyland?
    I thought u had a girlfriend?
    That explains it.

  98. Da Punchbowl Kid October 17, 2009 10:16 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

Anyone who has watched this team from the beginning of the year knows that they have it in them to do better than they have the last couple of games. My advice to the team:

Have fun, and just win baybee, just win! You can do it!!!

  99. mo808 October 17, 2009 10:38 am

Good Morning All! Game time ETA in T minus 16 minutes and counting! GO Warriors!

  100. Bulla October 17, 2009 10:48 am

35-7 Weber State over Sacramento State at 1/2 time

  101. wafan October 17, 2009 10:50 am

Just as some get annoyed when the UH is referred to as the Rainbows those from Hawai’i need to show the same respect to others and learn to say the names correctly.

    Moss-co.

    NOT Moss-cow.

    Geez. Hard is that?

  102. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 10:53 am

    ESPN Plus/ESPN Regional telecast.

Looks like Leahey and Yamanoha didn’t make the trip to this road game either, unless I’ve been mistaken.

  103. Garret October 17, 2009 11:01 am

Wow, Idaho is getting a HUGE push from their interior OL…

  104. mo808 October 17, 2009 11:02 am

Don’t think Game Over yet, gang!

  105. Garret October 17, 2009 11:02 am

That ref got a knockdown on Mana Silva…The Idaho RB wold have been stopped.

  106. Garret October 17, 2009 11:06 am

Great play call that Rolo scripted. First play for Moniz–easy short pass and let Pilares run with it. That is how UH started the Fresno State game also, good to get Moniz going.

  107. Garret October 17, 2009 11:07 am

Great running after the catch for Salas! Nice drive going.

  108. mo808 October 17, 2009 11:08 am

    Touchdown!

  109. Garret October 17, 2009 11:09 am

Great scramble by Moniz! Idaho had pressure and it was 2nd and 10, so that was a drive-saving run.

  110. Garret October 17, 2009 11:09 am

TD Inoke on the Wildcat in the red zone!

    Red zone TD!

  111. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 11:09 am

Awright… 7 all.!!! Way to go.. INOKE!

Glad he redeemed himself for that fumble the last time.

  112. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 11:10 am

    Nice TD by Inoke!

  113. 99club October 17, 2009 11:14 am

Hmmm….I’ll take the OVER for the game total, Alex.

ND v. USC on the tube, Hawaii on the ‘puter, Octoberfest beer on the table, and Tsaikos on the blog. Yessss!

  114. mo808 October 17, 2009 11:15 am

    Oh well, speed kills!

  115. Garret October 17, 2009 11:15 am

That was WAY too easy for Idaho…first TD for that WR this season.

  116. 99club October 17, 2009 11:15 am

    OK, our turn.

  117. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 11:16 am

Time for the Defense to step up!

  118. mo808 October 17, 2009 11:17 am

How do you answer that comeback by the Vandals?

  119. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 11:17 am

Oh well. Back on offense it is.

  120. Garret October 17, 2009 11:17 am

    99club,

It sure looks like the OVER is going to happen, another WAC shootout. The good thing for UH is that Idaho’s pass defense is their weak spot on D, which matches up nicely with UH.

Still, the D has got to do a better job or they are putting a lot of pressure on Moniz and the O.

  121. NYUH October 17, 2009 11:17 am

Well, at least the defense can rest 🙁

  122. Garret October 17, 2009 11:19 am

Taylor has looked dangerous on both kick returns in this game.

  123. 99club October 17, 2009 11:21 am

Howzit Garret! Yup, the D will tighten up, I’m sure. This is going to be a barn burner! Wish I was there. That’s a neat venue for a game. More like a concert atmosphere since the dome’s so small.

  124. NYUH October 17, 2009 11:21 am

Nice to see LWJ getting the job done

  125. 99club October 17, 2009 11:22 am

This ESPN360 feed is SWEET. Nice throw, tough drop.

  126. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 11:23 am

    LWJ is looking good!

  127. Garret October 17, 2009 11:23 am

GREAT 3rd-and-14 conversion and a long run after catch for Bradley!

  128. 99club October 17, 2009 11:23 am

    Yeah! Nice play!

  129. Garret October 17, 2009 11:23 am

GREAT job by the OL on that 3rd down, Moniz had a clear view of the entire field with no pressure.

  130. 99club October 17, 2009 11:24 am

Notice the yards after catch? He’s hitting them in stride. NICE.

  131. Garret October 17, 2009 11:25 am

Got to convert in the red zone…no way to win without red zone success in a high scoring game.

  132. 99club October 17, 2009 11:25 am

    LWJ’s lookin’ really good!

  133. duffer (iPhone) October 17, 2009 11:25 am

    What’s the score?

  134. 99club October 17, 2009 11:25 am

OK, they saw that play before.

  135. 99club October 17, 2009 11:26 am

    Nice pass, tough drop again.

  136. 99club October 17, 2009 11:27 am

    Duffer,

    14-10, Idaho.

  137. postmanke October 17, 2009 11:28 am

    Moniz is slinging it well!

  138. 99club October 17, 2009 11:28 am

Of course we would’ve preferred a TD, but dang those were two good drives!

  139. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 11:28 am

    99club:

Yep. The ESPN360 feed is pretty good. The announcers are fair; at least I can watch the game with the volume on.

  140. 99club October 17, 2009 11:30 am

Listening to these clowns trying to pronounce the Hawaii names is like finger nails down a chalkboard. Don’t they prepare?

  141. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 11:31 am

    Defense.. DEfense.. DEFEnse..DEFENSE

  142. 99club October 17, 2009 11:32 am

Howzit CRW! You’re right about the announcers being fair, but that one guy obviously made no effort to learn how to pronounce names before calling this game.

  143. 99club October 17, 2009 11:33 am

    3d and long. Hold ’em!

  144. Garret October 17, 2009 11:33 am

ESPN360 with a fiber optic feed is awesome. Paying just $30 per month for internet access for my home when they gave us $250 to sign up was a great deal…

Idaho sure showed confidence in their OL by running up the middle on 3rd-and-3. Iupati is an excellent run blocker…I’ve been trying to see how he has been doing against the Warrior DTs.

  145. 99club October 17, 2009 11:34 am

14-10 Vandals at the end of the 1st qtr.

  146. Garret October 17, 2009 11:35 am

At least one ESPN guy can pronounce “Iupati”…the color commentator really didn’t practice at all! Maybe he just didn’t bother practicing the OL names.

  147. Garret October 17, 2009 11:35 am

The first play of the 2nd quarter will be huge…it would be great for the D to get the stop, and it is important for the D to get off the field and not get worn down.

  148. duffer (iPhone) October 17, 2009 11:35 am

    @99club
    Mahalo!
Kinda hard lugging a tv on the golf cart 🙂

  149. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 11:36 am

    Cmon Dee!

  150. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 11:36 am

    99club:

Yeah, I noticed that, how the one guy is saying ’em ok, while the other one continues to fumble on their names.

Can’t guarantee announcer fairness in next week’s game, which will most likely be carried on ESPN360. When Boise’s been on ESPN360, they’ve been carrying the 7-Sports/Boise feed. You know how they are…..

  151. Garret October 17, 2009 11:37 am

    Nice stop on 3rd down!

  152. Garret October 17, 2009 11:40 am

OL got away with holding on 2nd down.

  153. 99club October 17, 2009 11:41 am

CRW, next week’s game’s already scheduled for ESPN360. How does Oceanic make any $ on their streaming deal?

Thought we would have had a free play on that one. 1st down anyway.

  154. Garret October 17, 2009 11:41 am

Siavii just gave UH a first down on 3rd-and-4 by going way offsides.

  155. 99club October 17, 2009 11:41 am

How did he escape that? Nice.

  156. Garret October 17, 2009 11:42 am

Wow, if Green got past that 1 LB, he would have run FAR.

  157. 99club October 17, 2009 11:43 am

    Duffer,

10-6 Arkansas over Florida 6:44 in the 3d qtr. Still 14-10 in our game.

  158. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 11:43 am

    Oh no

  159. Garret October 17, 2009 11:43 am

Idaho is definitely blitzing as a big part of their game plan on D. Some blitzes they show early, others they come late, trying to confuse Moniz.

  160. postmanke October 17, 2009 11:43 am

    leg whipped?

  161. Garret October 17, 2009 11:44 am

Oh no…Bradley is grabbing his leg/calf.

  162. Garret October 17, 2009 11:45 am

No leg whip penalty when making a tackle…just a bad luck play.

  163. 99club October 17, 2009 11:45 am

Oh n-o-o-o-o-o-o-o. Bradley looks like he’s hurt after that last play.

  164. postmanke October 17, 2009 11:45 am

Easy to sustain a fracture on that kind of leg whip

  165. 99club October 17, 2009 11:46 am

    Howzit Liz!

  166. Garret October 17, 2009 11:46 am

    postmanke,

I thought the same thing as your #164…I hope that Bradley is okay.

  167. 99club October 17, 2009 11:47 am

That looked horrible. He’s done for the year, for sure.

  168. Garret October 17, 2009 11:47 am

Bradley is still down and the stretcher is out…I feel so bad for Bradley.

  169. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 11:48 am

Not a good sign for Bradley… dang!!

  170. postmanke October 17, 2009 11:49 am

That is unfortunate, wish him a speedy recovery.

  171. SojuNTaegu October 17, 2009 11:49 am

Is this game on the internet? I would love to watch here in Korea! Got up early an everything!

    Go Warriors!!!!

  172. 99club October 17, 2009 11:50 am

TD USC. 21-7 with 7:29 left in the 3rd

  173. 99club October 17, 2009 11:52 am

    SojuNTaegu,

It’s on ESPN360 for free, or Oceanic streaming for a small fee…equivalent to a couple jungle juices or white dogs.

  174. 99club October 17, 2009 11:53 am

Florida just scored. 13-10 FL 3 min left in the 3rd.

  175. SojuNTaegu October 17, 2009 11:53 am

Thanks man! Anyone know what happened to Bradley?

  176. Garret October 17, 2009 11:53 am

    99club,

I thought that Oceanic only offered streaming video for UH home games.

  177. wafan October 17, 2009 11:54 am

1420 is several minutes behind ESPN360.

    Must be an Idaho time-shift.

  178. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 11:55 am

    Go Moniz!

  179. 99club October 17, 2009 11:55 am

I’d love to see Chizy on a crossing pattern

  180. Garret October 17, 2009 11:56 am

Wow, Moniz is doing a GREAT job with his scrambling, but he really needs to go down quicker because he took a big hit.

  181. 99club October 17, 2009 11:56 am

Yeah, I was holding my breath at the end of that run! Tought hit to the head.

  182. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 11:56 am

#175- looks like tibia to us.

  183. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 11:56 am

Warriors moving the ball!! Gotta win this one for Bradley and Alexander!

  184. postmanke October 17, 2009 11:57 am

Stay cool as a cucumber Moniz – we got this game

  185. 99club October 17, 2009 11:57 am

    Moniz looks GREAT!

  186. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 11:57 am

    Tick…..tock…..tick……tock…..

  187. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 11:57 am

    Facemask?

  188. SojuNTaegu October 17, 2009 11:57 am

Ouch on the tibia Liz… Thanks for the update.

  189. 99club October 17, 2009 11:58 am

    Garret,

My bad, I’m pretty sure you’re right about Oceanic only doing home games.

  190. Garret October 17, 2009 11:58 am

That reverse to Taylor from the ‘Noke formation was predictable and developed too slowly.

  191. postmanke October 17, 2009 12:00 pm

i was just thinking fake… lol good time to go for it, didnt work but i love it!

  192. wafan October 17, 2009 12:00 pm

    Talk about a bad spot!

  193. Garret October 17, 2009 12:00 pm

    Red zone offense…sigh.

  194. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 12:00 pm

    Fake! Nice.

  195. Garret October 17, 2009 12:00 pm

Fake FG…but Idaho stopped UH at the 2.

  196. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 12:01 pm

    game is on http://www.channelsurfing.net now.

At least they are trying a whole slew of different things and taking some risks… 3 yards shy of 6 points.. dang!

  197. 99club October 17, 2009 12:02 pm

FAKE FG! No good. Still 14-10 Vandals, 4 minutes left in the half. They have the ball on their 2.

13-13 FL-AR at the beginning of the 4th.

  198. Garret October 17, 2009 12:02 pm

Congratulations to Idaho’s players and coaches for that stop. They stayed at home even thought UH never showed that play this season. Inoke hit LWJ in stride, UH executed the play exactly as planned…Idaho’s player just stayed home and made the tackle.

  199. postmanke October 17, 2009 12:02 pm

You can tell by enos eyes the fake was on. Good stuff. keep the focus – we got this game

  200. 99club October 17, 2009 12:03 pm

    199

  201. Garret October 17, 2009 12:03 pm

That was a LONG drive for UH…that could pay off later in the game because Idaho’s D could get tired.

  202. wafan October 17, 2009 12:04 pm

    Dang.

  203. Garret October 17, 2009 12:05 pm

My mistake, on the replay Inoke didn’t hit LWJ in stride…but Idaho had a guy back there to watch for the fake no matter what.

  204. 99club October 17, 2009 12:05 pm

TD USC. 27-14 late in 3rd.

  205. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 12:06 pm

Idaho is making our Defense look so porous.

  206. Garret October 17, 2009 12:07 pm

I’m glad that pass was a little too long or Idaho would have had 2 long TD passes.

  207. 99club October 17, 2009 12:08 pm

    Good D! Idaho punting.

  208. Garret October 17, 2009 12:08 pm

4th down! Idaho’s QB missed 2 straight open receivers.

  209. 99club October 17, 2009 12:10 pm

1:15 left in the half. Hawaii’s ball on the UH 15.

  210. Garret October 17, 2009 12:10 pm

Didn’t the Idaho guy have the football when they took everyone off the pile? I’m glad it is UH ball, though!

  211. 99club October 17, 2009 12:10 pm

    Beer break!

  212. wafan October 17, 2009 12:11 pm

    Close call on that fumble.

  213. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 12:13 pm

8 seconds lost between the out-of-bounds and the timeout call.

    Come on!

  214. Garret October 17, 2009 12:13 pm

Did it take 8 seconds after the play was over before UH called the timeout? I don’t know if that was the ref’s problem or the coaches, but it looks like the clock ticked down from 1:00 to 0:52.

  215. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 12:14 pm

I meant to say the catch and tackle, not the out-of-bounds as was said in my previous post.

  216. Garret October 17, 2009 12:14 pm

    CRW,

I was typing the same thing.

  217. 99club October 17, 2009 12:15 pm

Man, I like the way Moniz is playing.

  218. Garret October 17, 2009 12:15 pm

UH called the timeout quickly this time…but they didn’t need to because the clock stops after the first down.

  219. 99club October 17, 2009 12:16 pm

Ugh! Go out of bounds, brah!

  220. Garret October 17, 2009 12:16 pm

My mistake, Idaho called that timeout…crazy, since that helps UH.

  221. NYUH October 17, 2009 12:17 pm

    time mgt

  222. Garret October 17, 2009 12:17 pm

Moniz is playing very, very well! His mobility has been key to this game and a less mobile QB would have not made as many plays.

  223. wafan October 17, 2009 12:17 pm

Kind of looks like it was a official problem rather than a coaching problem with the 8 seconds.

  224. 99club October 17, 2009 12:17 pm

Hawaii down to Idaho 38 with 40 sec. left in the half. One timeout left.

  225. 99club October 17, 2009 12:18 pm

We’re going to score. You watch.

  226. postmanke October 17, 2009 12:18 pm

very reminiscent vs UNLV this game.

  227. Garret October 17, 2009 12:20 pm

Why not go for it on 4th down with 10 seconds left?

If the pass is incomplete, Idaho has a few seconds and 60 yards to go!

  228. 99club October 17, 2009 12:20 pm

20-13 Arkansas over Florida 9:40 left in the game.

  229. 99club October 17, 2009 12:21 pm

    Garret,

    Good question. #227.

  230. Garret October 17, 2009 12:21 pm

    Halftime key stat:

    3 red zone drives:
    TD
    FG
    stopped on 4th down fake

Bad trend and 10 points in 3 red zone drives is near the bottom of red zone success in the national stats.

  231. 99club October 17, 2009 12:22 pm

    14-10 Idaho at the half.

TD USC. 34-14 with 13 min. left in the game.

  232. postmanke October 17, 2009 12:23 pm

    227 – Garret,

Previous plays ~ sack and almost INT – I’m pretty sure that’s why

  233. NYUH October 17, 2009 12:24 pm

I’m usually pro-coach but I really don’t like the time management issues we see time after time. Any possession is an opportunity to stick it.

  234. Da Punchbowl Kid October 17, 2009 12:24 pm

Add a power package for short red zone or an option series and this would be a different team.

  235. 99club October 17, 2009 12:25 pm

    Garret,

What did you think of the TX game? Not as much scoring as I had expected but still had a happy ending.

  236. Kazz (#1000 COMES TONIGHT!!!) October 17, 2009 12:27 pm

LETS GO WARRIORS!!! LETS DO IT FOR A FALLEN BROTHER!!!

  237. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 12:27 pm

Nevada squeaks by Utah State for the 35-32 victory.

La. Tech blowing out NMSU 45-0 through mid-4th quarter.

  238. 99club October 17, 2009 12:27 pm

FL scored. 20-20 with 7 min left in the game.

  239. 99club October 17, 2009 12:29 pm

    DPK,
Agreed. Or even just a BIG TE target.

  240. al October 17, 2009 12:30 pm

nothing wrong with the run n shoot inside the red zone.

its the play calling. okay, the inoke worked by surprise the first time and granted we dropped two td passes in the endzone.

but, on the one that we had first and goal at the five, we run for 3 yds and we should have just kept running the next three times. idk??? why go back to the inoke again and again????

    fake fg???? why???

    arrrrgghhhh.

    i’ll shut up now.

  241. 99club October 17, 2009 12:30 pm

    ND scored. 34-21 11:13 left.

  242. 99club October 17, 2009 12:31 pm

Make that 34-20. USC blocked the try.

  243. Garret October 17, 2009 12:33 pm

    99club,

That game was a classic example of two excellent offensive lines, with mostly seniors playing that are All-Americans last year or are candidates to be All-American this year, that just got *dominated* by the defensive lines. Great D on both sides.

If Texas recovered the fumble near the goal line, they score a TD. If Colt McCoy went down instead of trying to fight for more yards when he was wrapped up by the D, Texas probably scores another TD. But the Texas D played well enough that Texas’ O didn’t need to score much.

  244. Garret October 17, 2009 12:35 pm

UH had a LOT of success with option plays near the goal line. With Moniz being so mobile, I don’t see why that hasn’t been tried at all.

  245. postmanke October 17, 2009 12:35 pm

Yes, dont look past Utah St

  246. 99club October 17, 2009 12:36 pm

    al,

Yeah, those were tough ones. You’d think we’d follow Estes up the middle a few times in that situation.

Mixed emotions. I don’t like being down right now, but we are DRIVING and Moniz looks great. Future’s looking bright!

  247. al October 17, 2009 12:36 pm

to me we should employ the paul johnson spread offense inside the ten. it is probably the most effective 3 yard offense around. the old triple option from a team that passes would certainly keep the defense in a frenzy. rego the big back and chizzy with salas, pilares in a slot or wr. panic time for a defense.

    well, what do i know.

  248. al October 17, 2009 12:37 pm

    yup 99.
okay second half….let’s get it done.

  249. 99club October 17, 2009 12:39 pm

Still 20-20 FL-AR. AR missed a 38-yd FG attempt. 3 min left in the 4th.

  250. 99club October 17, 2009 12:41 pm

Ooooo…ND intercepts and have the ball on the USC 12.

  251. mo808 October 17, 2009 12:42 pm

    3rd and 7

  252. 99club October 17, 2009 12:44 pm

ND scored. 34-27 7 minutes left.

  253. Garret October 17, 2009 12:44 pm

Bad first drive, but at least receivers are getting open.

  254. NYUH October 17, 2009 12:44 pm

Pilares dropping a lot of balls. Wasted opportunity.

  255. mo808 October 17, 2009 12:44 pm

Hope the D can get us the ball back!

  256. 99club October 17, 2009 12:45 pm

Man, that play was there. Idaho’s ball.

  257. 99club October 17, 2009 12:46 pm

FL in FG range with 1 min. left.

  258. 99club October 17, 2009 12:47 pm

Nice to hear their announcers questioning Idaho’s play calling. 🙂

  259. Garret October 17, 2009 12:47 pm

I’m glad that Idaho’s QB has been missing so many passes this game.

  260. Garret October 17, 2009 12:48 pm

    99club,

I agree with the announcers–I don’t know why Idaho doesn’t run the ball more…their drives have been stopped mostly by incomplete passes.

  261. 99club October 17, 2009 12:50 pm

    Crap. Where’s the pass rush?

  262. Garret October 17, 2009 12:50 pm

Now that I posted #260, Idaho goes and completes 2 passes and gets a scramble for 8 yards…

  263. Garret October 17, 2009 12:52 pm

LBs overpursuing and Idaho is getting BIG yards on cutbacks.

  264. wafan October 17, 2009 12:55 pm

    Come on Warriors!

    Concentrate!!!

  265. Garret October 17, 2009 12:56 pm

TD Idaho on the 3rd down run.

  266. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 12:57 pm

Warriors gotta respond on this drive… can’t let themselves fall back any further.

  267. Garret October 17, 2009 12:57 pm

Illegal substitution on UH on the extra point try?

  268. Garret October 17, 2009 12:58 pm

14-play drive that took forever for Idaho. Warriors need to score now and keep Idaho’s offense off the field for awhile so that the D can rest and adjust.

  269. mo808 October 17, 2009 12:59 pm

Like Robert said, “let’s get it started NOW!”

  270. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 1:01 pm

    Aaron Kia offsides again…

  271. Garret October 17, 2009 1:01 pm

Wow, Kia almost tripped and fell backwards before the ball was snapped. 2nd-and-13, need to get this first down!

  272. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 1:02 pm

    Alright Avery!

  273. Garret October 17, 2009 1:03 pm

First down to Avery on 3rd-and-13! Excellent protection by the OL!

  274. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 1:04 pm

Oline is not giving Moniz enough time. The pocket collapsed completely around Moniz just too quickly…

  275. Garret October 17, 2009 1:04 pm

DE got around Hansen for the sack…

  276. Garret October 17, 2009 1:05 pm

Kia injured…who goes in at LT?

  277. 99club October 17, 2009 1:05 pm

    FL won, 23-20 over AR.

  278. Garret October 17, 2009 1:06 pm

3rd and 5 is much better than 3rd and 10…Idaho offsides again.

  279. Garret October 17, 2009 1:07 pm

LONG first down completion to Taylor!

  280. 99club October 17, 2009 1:07 pm

    Nice run after catch!

  281. 99club October 17, 2009 1:08 pm

    Final. 34-27 USC over ND.

  282. Garret October 17, 2009 1:08 pm

Moniz 5-for-5 for 48 yards passing on this drive according to the announcers.

  283. wafan October 17, 2009 1:09 pm

Call plays like EVERY down is 3rd and 10.

  284. Garret October 17, 2009 1:09 pm

4th quarter will begin after the break. 3rd and 1…huge play for the Warriors!

  285. 99club October 17, 2009 1:10 pm

Oops! Clock operator putting 1 sec back on the clock. ND has one shot left from the USC 4. Lucky, eh? 😉

  286. wafan October 17, 2009 1:11 pm

    Dang. Red-Zone time.

  287. wafan October 17, 2009 1:12 pm

    TD!!!

  288. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 1:12 pm

Great to see UH starting to master the art of the time-consuming drive.

  289. 99club October 17, 2009 1:12 pm

    1st down!

  290. Garret October 17, 2009 1:12 pm

Nice pass to Medeiros on 3rd down!

  291. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 1:13 pm

    TD!!!!!!!

  292. 99club October 17, 2009 1:13 pm

    TD Moniz! Yeeeeehaaaaw!

  293. Garret October 17, 2009 1:13 pm

TD Moniz on the scramble! Red Zone TD!

  294. NYUH October 17, 2009 1:14 pm

    Go for 2

  295. Garret October 17, 2009 1:14 pm

No need to worry about red zone play calling if Moniz can just scramble like that.

  296. wafan October 17, 2009 1:15 pm

I wonder if those out of bounds kick offs are intentional.

  297. Garret October 17, 2009 1:15 pm

Moniz has to have an AMAZING 3rd-down completion percentage in this game. Wow.

  298. NYUH October 17, 2009 1:15 pm

    Dah! Down 4

  299. Garret October 17, 2009 1:15 pm

TWO kickoffs out of bounds in this game?

  300. 99club October 17, 2009 1:15 pm

Dang. We just gave them 20 yards. That penalty’s too severe.

  301. wafan October 17, 2009 1:16 pm

    Go Kama!

Sorry to all the Warriors. Hard to break the habit of cheering for a fellow Monarch.

    Uhhh, GO WARRIORS!

  302. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 1:18 pm

Huge possession now.. gotta get that ball back from Idaho and take the lead

  303. duffer (iPhone) October 17, 2009 1:19 pm

    What’s da score?

  304. Garret October 17, 2009 1:19 pm

Great tackle by Spencer Smith…2nd and 6 became 3rd and long.

  305. wafan October 17, 2009 1:20 pm

Looks like we dodge one with the incomplete call.

  306. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 1:21 pm

dayumn … got the fumble but couldn’t recover the ball…

  307. Garret October 17, 2009 1:21 pm

UH got a break…that should be a first down for Idaho. Clear call, blown by the refs…but UH benfits!

  308. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 1:22 pm

Sure looked like a legit fumble by the Idaho receiver. We’ll see how it comes out.

  309. 99club October 17, 2009 1:22 pm

    Duffer,

    21-17 bad guys.

  310. Garret October 17, 2009 1:23 pm

Spencer Smith made the tackle for loss on 2nd down and then caused the fumble on 3rd down. Great job stepping up!

  311. Garret October 17, 2009 1:24 pm

Darn replay…but they made the correct call.

  312. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 1:25 pm

    Hold tough Dee!

  313. 99club October 17, 2009 1:25 pm

C’mon D! We need a stand right here.

  314. Garret October 17, 2009 1:25 pm

Wow, that was a good audible by Idaho’s QB. Pass down to the 3.

  315. wafan October 17, 2009 1:27 pm

    28-17. Dang.

  316. 99club October 17, 2009 1:28 pm

    TD Idaho.
    28-17 8:40 left.

  317. 99club October 17, 2009 1:35 pm

    1st down! Nice.

  318. Garret October 17, 2009 1:35 pm

Great conversion on 3rd-and-10! Moniz is on fire every 3rd down, and Avery has done a nice job.

  319. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 1:36 pm

pocket collapses again.. fumble.. dang!!! NOT GOOD.

  320. Garret October 17, 2009 1:36 pm

    Fumble, Idaho recovered…

  321. wafan October 17, 2009 1:36 pm

    Dang it.

  322. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 1:37 pm

Vandals will try to run down the clock.. I’m sure.

  323. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 1:38 pm

    Tackling 101???

  324. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 1:38 pm

Obvious passing situation… how did he get so open? ouch!

  325. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 1:39 pm

    Need a TO

  326. 99club October 17, 2009 1:39 pm

    *Tsai*

  327. Garret October 17, 2009 1:39 pm

Wow, that was a big 3rd down conversion for Idaho for a huge gain. UH needs a turnover or the game is over.

  328. wafan October 17, 2009 1:40 pm

    Hi, Liz!

    How did they turn out?

  329. wafan October 17, 2009 1:41 pm

Stop them now or it is all over.

  330. mo808 October 17, 2009 1:42 pm

I’m soooo down right now :(. Is there any way to come out of here with a win? Let’s Go Warriors!

  331. rasu begasu October 17, 2009 1:42 pm

Sorry if your family reads this, but Kia needs to be a guard
    really,…..sigh……….

  332. wafan October 17, 2009 1:43 pm

Vandals shoot themselves in the foot on that one.

  333. madeinhawaii October 17, 2009 1:44 pm

Huge opportunity for Hawaii here to stop the Vandals and get that ball back.

  334. mo808 October 17, 2009 1:44 pm

Well, I guess there helping us :)!

  335. Garret October 17, 2009 1:44 pm

    2nd and 23, stop them!

  336. OldDiver October 17, 2009 1:46 pm

That TV color guy is clueless.

  337. Garret October 17, 2009 1:46 pm

2nd and 33, stop them! Idaho would have had 3rd and 20 or so, so maybe declining could have saved time.

  338. rasu begasu October 17, 2009 1:46 pm

    don’t take the penalty! geeeeeze

  339. rasu begasu October 17, 2009 1:47 pm

color guy knows more than mac

  340. Garret October 17, 2009 1:48 pm

They actually converted 3rd and 26!

  341. 99club October 17, 2009 1:48 pm

    A-a-a-a-a-a-n-d that’s all she wrote.

  342. rasu begasu October 17, 2009 1:48 pm

sha na na good bye, good bye

  343. wafan October 17, 2009 1:50 pm

Time to sub like crazy and give everyone a chance.

  344. wafan October 17, 2009 1:50 pm

    Four straight.

    Tsigh.

  345. rasu begasu October 17, 2009 1:50 pm

    Losses to
    UNLV
    La Tech
    Fresno
    Idaho
    =
    No Hawaii Bowl

  346. RichfromOc October 17, 2009 1:51 pm

This season is starting to turn really fugly.

  347. OldDiver October 17, 2009 1:51 pm

Mack made the right decision, the color guy is talking nonsense. All for not since they converted 3rd down.

  348. 99club October 17, 2009 1:52 pm

Tough loss comin’ up but things look very promising for future games. Too many drops on key plays. Turnovers. Hat’s off to Idaho, they’re going to be tough from now on!

  349. Committed Road Warrior October 17, 2009 1:53 pm

    And that’s it.

Oh well. We’ll see what Boise has in store for us.

Ceteris parabus, that has the looks of being another ugly matchup.

  350. Manoa October 17, 2009 1:53 pm

Mack has his work cut out for him.
No way he can spin this loss.
Horrible play in every way (props to Moniz, Medeiros and the receivers.

  351. Garret October 17, 2009 1:53 pm

At least Moniz played very, very well and he’s a sophomore. His first UH road game didn’t scare him at all.

  352. RichfromOc October 17, 2009 1:54 pm

On a positive note I think we found a quarterback and will stable in that position for three years.

  353. rasu begasu October 17, 2009 1:54 pm

I’ve said this from day one, why can’t we recruit REAL OT’s
It’s not fair to the QBs, the team and boys themselves to be outclassed and out played every week.

  354. OldDiver October 17, 2009 1:55 pm

Agree, probably a losing season, but at least we found a QB.

  355. rasu begasu October 17, 2009 1:56 pm

Moniz can’t play with his back on the turf……..

  356. OldDiver October 17, 2009 1:57 pm

Good O-tackles are hard to find. This same discussion is happening at the NFL level as we speak.

  357. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 1:59 pm

    Karma. Helmet spear karma.

  358. wafan October 17, 2009 1:59 pm

Seems there is some urgency now.

    A tad late, though.

  359. 99club October 17, 2009 1:59 pm

Who’s going to the NV game?

  360. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 2:00 pm

    TD

  361. 99club October 17, 2009 2:00 pm

    TD Hawaii!

  362. wafan October 17, 2009 2:01 pm

Odd to hear about the stats and how well the Warriors did as the PAT is blown.

  363. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 2:03 pm

    Good redzone practice.

  364. wafan October 17, 2009 2:03 pm

    Perhaps a respectable score?

  365. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 2:04 pm

    Go Warriors!

  366. rasu begasu October 17, 2009 2:04 pm

Ok, suck it up, game over.
    Get ready for thr Broncos
Time for a upset at home!

  367. wafan October 17, 2009 2:05 pm

    Go Warriors!

    Break the Broncos!!!

  368. wafan October 17, 2009 2:05 pm

    Go Warriors!

    Break the Broncos!!!

  369. chopsueyboy October 17, 2009 2:05 pm

all in the plan to get Boise State overconfident?

  370. LizKauai (iPhone) October 17, 2009 2:06 pm

    This room is applauding for
    Moniz and co!

  371. Imua October 17, 2009 2:06 pm

    Go Warriors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  372. wafan October 17, 2009 2:06 pm

    Coaches Poll:
1 Florida wins a close one at home in the final seconds against an unranked team.
2 TX didn’t look good against OK at all, but won.
3 Alabama will probably pound the daylights out of South Carolina. They’ll get a few more #1 votes, for sure.
4 VT is losing to #19 GT 21-10.
5 USC beat ND. They’ll be movin’ on up like the Jeffersons!
6 Boise won on the road, but not in spectacular fashion. Should be 5 next poll.
    7 Ohio St. lost.
    8 TCU won convincingly
9 Cincy won on the road against undefeated team.
    10. LSU off. Next up Auburn.

    No question.

If the Warriors are not there neither are the crowds.

Drawing fans from both schools this year will be especially tough with the higher airfares. Hopefully, the hotels and bowl put some nice packages together to help entice the fans.

  390. Kazz (#1000 COMES TONIGHT!!!) October 17, 2009 2:23 pm

    Positives:
    -Moniz
    -Avery
    -Medeiros
    -Salas, of course.

    Negatives:
    -More injuries.
-Pass rush still nowhere to be found (see “more injuries”)
-“Interesting” and predictable offensive playcalling out of the wildcat.

The “WTF” moments of the game:

    1) TWO kickoff errors by Enos.

    2) Coach Mack going for the penalty on 2nd and 33 instead of declining it sending the down to 3.

    ==================

Big prayers to Rodney Bradley at this time, hearing that his injury is “Joe Theisman-like”…

  392. Kazz (#1000 COMES TONIGHT!!!) October 17, 2009 2:26 pm

More speculation that Rodney Bradley’s injury is a complete fracture of his tibia and fibula.

-Per orthopedic surgeon on 1420am just now.

  393. d1島 October 17, 2009 2:31 pm

    wafan,

    Thanks for asking. Another win.

59-14 over Lewis & Clark. It was over in the first 7:00 of the game. 21-0 by then. Biggest challenge for the coaches in the 2nd half was to get PT for 100+ players.

Next week. Game of the Year at Willamette in Salem….and we’ll be there! 🙂

  413. Kazz (#1000 COMES TONIGHT!!!) October 17, 2009 2:51 pm

    Coach Mack,

    Do better sir.

We understand that you don’t have much to work with right now… Fate has not been kind to our fallen Warriors, but still… there should be no reason as to why when you ask a group of defensive players: “Who’s gonna make a play” and only ONE Warrior raises his hand…

If the kids are not going to get up and motivated, then you and your staff need to kick some OKOLE!!!

    That’s all…

  414. chopsueyboy October 17, 2009 2:52 pm

  415. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 17, 2009 2:52 pm

    2nd comment the….

    POSITIVES

    1) Moniz did a pretty darn good job at putting the ball in the receivers hands.

    2) It wasn’t raining and cold in the Kibby Dome.

  416. Kazz (#1000 COMES TONIGHT!!!) October 17, 2009 2:54 pm

    That’s all…

  419. Abracadabra! October 17, 2009 2:58 pm

    Negatives – Da Head Coach

My prayers go out to Rodney Bradley

  420. Kazz (#1000 COMES TONIGHT!!!) October 17, 2009 2:59 pm

    RUSH THE TERAFLEX!!!

    Who’s with me? 😆

  421. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 17, 2009 2:59 pm

    3 comment the…..

    NEGATIVES

    1) Our D-Line is sloooooow and our defense is no where to be found. If you can’t stop the basic run up the middle time after time you are pretty much done.

    2) Enos…..out of bounds on TWO kickoffs??? =(

    3) Receivers dropping passes that are in their hands…Which brings me to the whole Ron Lee thing…Wasn’t he relieved of O-coordinator duty so that he could work MORE with the receivers? He needs to work on dropped passes.

    4) Offensive line was pretty offensive to me….I will pray for 2 things, Bradley and some decent O-Tackles that can actually block once in a while.

That being said…Hawaii Bowl is I think pretty much out of the question. Lets gear up and try to salvage whatever is left and hope for a much better season next year.

    Go Warriors.

  422. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 17, 2009 3:01 pm

Re: Robert Kekaula’s comments on 1420 post game show. If the coaches asked the defense “Who is gonna make a play, who is gonna lead etc etc” (paraphrasing) and only ONE person raised their hands……..SHAME SHAME ON THE COACHES…..how much does it cost to get Lou Holtz to come in a do a pep talk? hahaha =P

  423. mo808 October 17, 2009 3:09 pm

Bradley my thoughts and prayers go out to you! MO you ARE the MAN!! Sorry Blaze, the D just didn’t do that much better this week–please continue to be the motivator. Coach Mac, I remain hopeful! Boise is up next week guys–Go Warriors!

  424. Warrior in GA October 17, 2009 3:12 pm

Well, its official we have lost to Idaho, I will repeat that for dramatic effect, Idaho, and control the cellar, well it really cant get any worse, the fact that we make the same mistakes is really unbelievable on defense and in the red zone. What I cannot seem to wrap my arms around is that why has this program dropped so far in less than 2 years. Offense looked better but can we PLEASE get somebody to replace Kia at left tackle, if he is best we got, our qbs are going to continue to get killed. Oh.well nothing else left to say, no bowl game, lets just hope we can win a few on the home stretch but Mack is in trouble, he should be the football team’s press aide because he always talks a great game, but he gets outcoached every week…..

  425. kymrykauai October 17, 2009 3:16 pm

    Great job Bryant Moniz!
We are behind you and many fans believe in you and are so proud of you!

Praying for Bradley and hoping to hear an update soon.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    Great to see you lizk!

  426. Slugger October 17, 2009 3:18 pm

Not too bad a game…we still need work, but Moniz was great, RBs not too bad. Leon went stay go. I liked the wildcat! (I don’t know enuf to say anything about the D- & O-line.)

The receivers need to work with the JUGS before practice like some of their notable Warriors have done in the past. Develop the hands.

Prayers out to St. Damien for Rodney Bradley. And healing thoughts out to GA & all the other guys who are banged up & hurting.

Stretch, young Grasshopper, all you need are yellow robes. :))

Esme & out…. See some of you at WVB tonight!

man thats terrible news about bradley. hoping a very very speedy recovery.

  432. appagom October 17, 2009 3:45 pm

I have had UH season tickets 31 years now. This years team looks a lot like those von appon teams, except we have 2 wins… so far in the wac, defeated 0-3. Very embarassing as the warriors defense can not stop anyone. 3rd and 30? no problem 37 yards and a 1st down. Whats with the drop passes, fumbles etc. Fake field goal was a good idea or even going for it on 4th but it back fires when the opponents march 95 yards down the field and score. I don’t know if I can bare to watch Boise St. 49 – 0 at half? We already know #1. warriors unable to stop the run, pass, 3rd and long and #2. offense can’t score more than the opponents. Coach Mac, you are a defensive guru… this must be eating you up inside big time.

  433. wafan October 17, 2009 3:47 pm

Prayers and positive thoughts to the Bradley family.

Looking forward to your return next year!

Who says it will be 49-0 BSU at the half?

  435. expat October 17, 2009 3:55 pm

Tough game to lose, but Idaho is a solid team and they just made more plays when it counted. They really wanted it. Still yet, the Warriors didn’t give up and considering the injuries the offense looked really good at times. Red zone still very disappointing to say the least– on both sides of the ball.

I hate it when the guys get blown out. This wasn’t one of those games and with a game like this that was really much closer than the final score I have a hard time feeling all that bummed.

  436. appagom October 17, 2009 3:55 pm

  438. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 17, 2009 3:58 pm

49-0 at the half? we may not be good, but we arent that bad gosh.

I am guessing the spread will be around 15-18 pts??? give or take a few. the gurus were pretty accurate with Idaho’s spread with the opening line so itll be interesting to see how much Boise will be favored by.

  439. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 17, 2009 4:00 pm

man, Alabama’s defense is looking really really solid against both the run and the pass.

  441. appagom October 17, 2009 4:04 pm

Offensively we putting up the numbers but the only numbers that count is the score. Need to convert in the red zone, no 3 and outs, control clock and keep the defense on the bench. Just imagine if Moniz had the skilled players around him like Colt had. At least Moniz is a gamer…

what things specifically did McMackin take responsibility for? did he elaborate at all as to what things went wrong that was under his control? i cannot fully believe that everything that went wrong could be put on the coach.

or was it more of general statement?

  446. Stephen Tsai October 17, 2009 4:29 pm

  453. ikaika October 17, 2009 4:47 pm

Positive: these UI boys that UH never offered are doing well.

Positive: NMSU lost today so maybe UH can share being the bottom feeders till next wee and hopefully NMSU will lose and UH will win.

Positive: Moniz proved he can play for UH

Positive: Salas continues to be a bright spot for all of us to enjoy

Negative: No bowl game for UH this year.

Negative: Excuses, excuses, excuses and more to come. Our #1 back ups should be as good as our starters so no injury or academic excuses allowed.

Saw them. Guess what I decided to have for dinner rather than head out. Yep, you talked me in to it.

I will enjoy the heady aroma as I ever so gently open the halves to reveal the hot steamy goodness within. Softly and oh so enticingly the invigorating perfume entices and fills me completely as I move slowly and lovingly closer for a nibble at the warm and firm apex. It will soon enough force my focus just before I consume that which is before me.

Ultimately, I will have smothered the inner surfaces with globs of quivering bits of luscious strawberry preserves; before, happily and eagerly, licking and lapping at the little rivulets of sweet goodness as they run down onto my fingers.

We got to see Kymry’s Warrior treasures before she dashed off to help with the high school cross country meet this afternoon.

    Warriors,

summa you did real good, and uncle’s proud that you showed pride in yourselves.

summa you just neva play our best. for example, you was scared that Moniz was hanging you out to dry with his pass and da D coming at you fo full on contact.

but the truth is, good players would have made the plays. no blame the next guy, blame yourselves.

and the same goes for the coaches.

okay, losing is getting easier. one snap and clear.

  470. bighilofan2 October 17, 2009 5:34 pm

    one more thing.

the Warriors did play as a team. I felt they played hard and tried hard.

all of us at Cronies Bar and Grill were feeling good for our team, at least through the beginning of the 3rd, maybe even into the 4th.

our coaches can do better. do better, coaches!

Mack needs to take hold of the defensive reigns,I predict with Mack’s Recruiting Hawaii will have a top 10 Defense in either the Fourth or last year of his contract.

losing is contagious. ask UTenn, Titans, Lions, Redskins, Rams, Warriors. 😀

at least i can smile, hope for the future. truthfully, i’d like to hope the receiving corps will show more confidence in Moniz, and Moniz be more zippy and accurate with the receivers. and if he’s not da bestest butta man, bring up da reserve!

I just hope Mac can maintain his health. The season is taking a toll on him. He look really looked tired warn out this game. Dont stress! Just play through this madness. It does turn around.

  484. Garret October 17, 2009 6:19 pm

Momo and Mrs. Momo are at the volleyball game–I’m sure that there are a lot of Tsaikos also there.

We left for Legoland once the game was over so that my kids could do their once-a-year nighttime trick-or-treating there. Seeing them all dressed up and happy was a nice way to help forget about the game…but then I caught up with the blog and saw the news about Bradley and I’m depressed again.

  485. bighilofan2 October 17, 2009 6:21 pm

    Postmanke,

you right about that. it does turn around.

you gotta do what you must!

  488. Garret October 17, 2009 6:25 pm

Seeing the defense struggle so much has to be bugging Mac, so I agree with postmanke’s #483. Mac waited so long to be in charge of a D-IA program and now he’s got to wait for things to turn. If recruiting continues to go well, things will get better over time.

Today was homecoming for Oklahoma State’s football team. They played at Boone Pickens Stadium…but T. Boone Pickens and his wife were at the SMU game instead of the Oklahoma State game. That is the first time Pickens missed an Oklahoma State home game in years, and this was homecoming!

I wish there was some link for UH to get T. Boone Pickens to go to a game at Aloha Stadium…or for some other billionaire to take an interest in Warrior football.

Wondering if UNLV hangs on to Sanford for a few more games? I wonder if he will be the first coach to be relieved of his duties in 2009? With John Gruden already linked to Louisville, will UNLV/ boosters make a push for Gruden? Far far fetched.. but ya never know.

    2 games to go Dave.

  512. Garret October 17, 2009 7:29 pm

    3rd quarter scoring this season:
    UH 0, Idaho 7
    UH 0, Fresno State 14
    UH 0, La Tech 14
    UH 0, UNLV 7
    UH 0, Washington State 7

UH has not scored a single point in the 3rd quarter against D-IA teams this season! That comes out to opponents 49, UH 0…and the 3rd quarter was even cited by Mac as the reason for the loss against UNLV. Today’s game was close at halftime and UH could have won the game with a strong 3rd quarter.

Whatever adjustments are being made at halftime just don’t seem to be effective…though the adjustments the opponents are making seem to work better. I had a feeling that the 3rd quarter scoring wasn’t good this season so I looked things up and was surprised at 49-0. To me, this is the most overlooked stat this season.

49-0. Five games against D-IA competition, 0 points in the third quarter. Maybe I’m making too much of this, but that stat kind of sticks out to me. This is especially notable to me because Mac always defers the kickoff and chooses for UH to get the ball first in the third quarter. Obviously, UH hasn’t done anything with their first drives after halftime.

  513. Garret October 17, 2009 7:31 pm

    postmanke,

Regarding #494, if it was up to me I’d let Pickens put up wind farms in a bunch of places in Hawaii if it would lead to some huge investments in Hawaii’s energy situation (and a lot of people in Hawaii would get jobs with wind energy) and donations to UH.

    duffer:
    google:

To enable CAPS LOCK on the iPhone, tap the Settings icon on the home screen, then tap the General button on the next screen.

In the general settings screen, tap on the Keyboard button.

In the keyboard settings screen, tap on or slide the switch to the right of Enable Caps Lock.

    Caps Lock Use:

Enabling the caps lock feature doesn’t change the appearance of the keyboard. Instead, the caps lock feature is accessed with the standard shift key. If you quickly tap the shift key twice it will turn blue indicating that it is now in caps lock mode. You may need to try this a few times before you get it right.

Once you are done with your email rant, simply tap the shift key again to get out of caps lock mode.

    @531.LIKE THIS!

    THANKS

  536. djmitcho October 17, 2009 8:29 pm

What I’m about to say will probably not be “liked” by some or most. It is my opinion and nothing else. First, I will always support the Warriors. I grew up going to UH games and will always be a fan. I just feel the need to speak my mind after todays game.
As far as the offense goes, it’s about as good as it’s gonna get this season. Moniz is a good enough QB to run the offense. While the receivers are doing a good job most of the time, there are too many dropped passes. The offensive line still needs to work harder. It’s too bad that they are on their 3rd right tackle of the season. If there is one thing that Moniz needed to work on this game it was recognizing the blitz.
The game management at the end of the 1st half was horrible, even without that last timeout debacle. With the type of offense Hawaii runs, there should be no reason to use all those timeouts. It’s obvious they have a 2 minute offense, as seen at the end of the 4th quarter. Why they were not running it at the end of the half, I have no idea.
The only real problem I saw with the special teams was the 2 kickoffs that went OB. I had no problem with the fake FG. People have a problem with it because it didn’t score. If they had gotten into the end zone people would have thought it was the best play ever. Had LWJ not hesitated after catching the ball or had he caught the ball in stride he would have scored.

Coach Mack needs to get more involved with the defensive game planning if he’s not involved. Running the D is his specialty. It’s what he is good at. I am in no way saying that Mack should not be the head coach, but he needs to do a little more with the D. If Cal Lee has full control of the D, then that is the problem. Idaho was not running a complicated offensive scheme. Most of it was zone blocking with a pulling guard. Mack also needs to get a mean streak. During the game I saw him talking to the D, but it didn’t seem like he was very fired up about it. It’s great to be a nice guy, but I feel needs to turn it up at game time. The D needs to turn up the heat the rest of the season to do something. There is nothing to lose at this point. Start bringing it. I don’t think they got close to Idaho’s QB all night. Something definitely needs to happen with the defense soon or there will not be another win.

Once again these are my own opinions and don’t expect everyone to agree with them, but I felt the need to express them for once.

  542. kama krab October 17, 2009 8:37 pm

    Howzit Everybody,

    Garret #512,

Those statistics are totally disturbing and is a very big problem especially when you are going to defer the kick-off until the second half. This is just one of many things that needs to be worked on the rest of the season and should be taken care of going into next year.

  543. Old Diver October 17, 2009 8:38 pm

After looking at the replay of the game, it appears the offense tackles are not solely to blame for the breakdown in protection. The defense tackles are pushing our center and guards into the face of Moniz making it impossible for him to step up into the pocket. In other words our entire O-line needs work.

  544. LizKauai [iMac] WARRIORS! IMUA! October 17, 2009 8:40 pm

  549. kama krab October 17, 2009 8:46 pm

    djmitcho,

No doubt. Those points you made are definitely things we need to work on. Without putting blame on one person or without calling for Mac’s head, what you said I think everyone can pretty much agree with.

No problems here just go old constructive criticism. Gotta have it sometimes.

  550. LizKauai [iMac] WARRIORS! IMUA! October 17, 2009 8:49 pm

    NMSU is unraveling a bit – 14-7

  551. kama krab October 17, 2009 8:56 pm

What I will say after this game is we will probably be out of contention for the Hawaii Bowl, which to me is little hard to swallow. But what I will say to the boyz is to continue to get better and continue to work hard because win or lose us Tsaiko’s will continue to be there at each and every home game. Also after watching this game I saw some go things from Moniz. Things that made me think that we got something special. I am not going to say another Colt but you just got a feeling that he just has that little something.

I am very much looking forward to see what we are in for for the rest of the year because it will give me a better since of what type of team we will have next year. With the addition Tuipolutu (sp?) and a healthy Hafoka I look forward to what these guyz can bring up front.

Just gotta enjoy the ride. =)

  552. LizKauai [iMac] WARRIORS! IMUA! October 17, 2009 8:56 pm

    17-7

kama krab – agreed. djmitcho brings up what I couldn’t put my finger on during the game- Coach Mack is not able to do what he does best- run the defense with his full attention.

I’m sure the film will reveal a lot and I’m looking forward to seeing how they adjust to new personnel and situations next week.

5 points away from 1000 wins.

I don’t know but it seems to me like UH was going backwards on 2nd down. Still I like the way Bryant plays. As you can see the bugga can run when he has to. I think the offense is starting to get there. This was a really good second game for our qb.

I just want to say take care and get better Rodney Bradley. Your loss was greater than this game.

There are just a few things that need to be said, so I can sleep better tonight,

We all had very high hopes obviously, that’s our job as fans, but now, as reality starts to sink in, we have to look at what we have very realistically.

What we have is really not that bad, look closely.

2008 we were lucky to make the Hawaii Bowl, our entire offense was gone and no QB or other back-ups of note, were ready to play. To top it all off, a brand new coaching staff, etc, and a killer schedule.

2009, onother tough schedule and this time our entire starting defense was gone, yet, we seemed to have some good talent. Then the injury bug started to hit us with a vengeance, especially to key players.

We started the year with great promise, the offense looked good and the defense was adequate and the excitement started to build somewhat.

Then the karma changed on a dime, as it so often does. A lousy one point loss to Vegas, that should have been ours, could have been chalked off as bad luck, but then came the real doozy.

The monstrous travel was bad enough in itself, but then came personal tragedy in the form of real disaster in Samoa, hugely personal to many of our players and we got blown out. Woopdedoo, what a minor thing, when you suddenly don’t know the fade of your loved ones, or worse, you do know.

All the while the injuries kept going and taking their toll.

Yet, despite all this, I saw a team today, that didn’t quit, I saw a team that kept their pride and kept on playing for us, and therein lies my encouragement.

I don’t know many teams, given the same circumstances, who wouldn’t have crumbled completely. I’m calling on my fellow fans, that it won’t be us that does the crumbling, but keep hanging in there with our young Warriors in full support.

The future looks bright, it always looks darkest just before the dawn. I seem to recall a Warrior team awile back, everybody had given up on for a bowl game, but then they won their final five games, including the impossible by beating Northwestern and Michigan State back to back.

My fellow Tsaikos, all we can do now, is to back-up our young Warriors with our hearts and emotions, a small price really, when you compare it to the players sarifices. It is easy to be a fan when the team is up, but love proves itself in the down times.

Just as the players have to earn their greatness as a team, so do we as fans. Are we ready to earn ourselves a great team? It will not be acclomlished with weekly which hunts for the caches heads, since that won’t happen anyway, or fans insulting each other, but the BELIEVE we actually had in 2006 and 2007.

The pay-off will come in 2010, are we ready to earn ourselves a great team by then?

  578. Kazz (#1000 WINS!) October 17, 2009 10:52 pm

Just got back from Majestic Maaaaaaaanoa and what a night!!! WHAT A NIGHT!!!!

The reports on the tickets issues is NO LIE. I haven’t seen the SSC that packed to the rafters since the 2005 Michigan State basketball game.

The SSC was loud, the Wahine looked a little nervous and their play showed it, but to know that you are about to cement history on that night can be nerve-racking.

Props to NMSU though for giving us decent competition which just added to the atmosphere.

RUBBERBAND MAN MADE SEVERAL APPEARANCES!!! Me and my friends had EXCELLENT seats in the lower bowl right behind the Wahine bench along side the tunnel on the student section side. Da RUBBERBAND MAN STILL GOT IT!!!!

I felt it all tonight. I was not there for the past years, but I felt I was in the presence of volleyball royalty with regards to the milestone win and the fan experience at such a massive level.

The sheer volume inside the SSC tonight was overwhelming and it was surreal to see the streamers and confetti falling with over 9,500 going NUTS and Coach Shoji being bombarded by his team.

Tonight they truly did it for Coach Shoji and the joy on their faces said it all. It wasn’t a win just for a win in conference play, but a win for a coaching icon in Hawaii.

They say things happen for a reason, no matter how odd or bad, and LaTech being unable to travel resulting in all the right pieces falling together on a weekend night against our best conference opponent was the best thing that could of happened.

I’m not going to lie… There was a sense that the non-pure volleyball fans showed up tonight to feel good about something and it showed. NMSU provided some scary moments for our Wahine. In the back of our minds we knew we had the talent to overcome whatever they threw at us, but still… ya know… 😉

The REAL loyal fans of all UH athletics deserved to end the day on a good note, but I think we really all left the SSC with more than just a “good feeling”.

    October 17, 2009 04:16:23 pm

Depends on how you hit your head. When I actually played sports a long time ago long long long time ago, you’d get knocked so hard you get a funny sensation and taste in your nose and top of your mouth.

re: the team playing with emotion and passion etc etc etc….

first of all i think its quite difficult to gauge someone playing with all their heart, or not giving up etc barring anything obvious. I haven’t personally seen any point in this season where i could say the team gave up (if they did it wasn’t obvious) or where they played with all their hearts (unfortunately i cannot read minds and football is emotional and energy packed to begin with). Its not to say they did or didnt but its a personal feeling that i think only the players themselves can own up to imo and not for me to judge, oh u gave up on us or you played ur tail off etc.

i don’t know how many of you listened to the 1420 post game show with Bobby and Robert but Kazz made reference to it already.

Robert basically said that when one of the coaches (not sure if it was Mac or someone else) went up to a group of players (defense i believe) and asked who is ready to lead, make the key play etc…and ONE (1) player raised their hand….

I don’t know if Robert was being facetious or not but I heard the comment and Bobby responded by saying how unsettling that was.

On one hand I hear that we played with passion and heart etc etc which is all very beautiful to say and think, yet what was said in the post game of the team mentality at the time seems to be a contradiction.

Did anyone hear anything further on that issue? What are the possible problems? If I can get to the Na Koa luncheon I will be sure to bring this point up.

  583. Kazz (#1000 WINS!) October 17, 2009 11:29 pm

During the live game, I thought nothing of Keo’s diving tackle on Bradley that caused the injury.

Now just saw the replay and I’m not so sure…

Whatever Keo says is what he claims… Deep down only he knows the truth. So he’ll deal with it.

Karma sucks. Those on the bad end of it will find out soon enough. 😎

  584. Kazz (#1000 WINS!) October 17, 2009 11:32 pm

To all Warrior linebackers and DBs,

If a referee is in between you and the opposing WR or HB and you’re about to make contact with him, JUST MAKE SURE WHEN IT’S OVER, HE WON’T BE GETTING BACK UP!!!! 😈

  585. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 17, 2009 11:42 pm

    adding to #582

My immediate thought would be that its human nature to feel down and out when the performance of your team is not up to what one expects.

I really believe its time that we get behind the team especially the defense to ask them to work harder in ever aspect of their practice and give 1% more above what they gave the week before.

There is only so much kicking someone can take before they do in fact give up. So lets hope the coaches show them tough compassionate love and us fans show up at the next game to back the team up.

    go warriors!

  586. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 17, 2009 11:54 pm

Highlight of my day so far-

    Shame on you Ms Liz

The trunk door slammed on my head. My head is bleeding a little, and I feel woozy. How do you know if you’ve had a concussion?

Remember Natasha Richardson? She died after hitting her head on the ski slope & she didn’t feel bad until she was ‘home’ (or whereever she was staying). I hope you went to get checked out at the ER before getting on a plane to come home.

  590. Slugger October 18, 2009 1:07 am

Just got through recording the game on DVD. Will have to take some time later to go over it.

    Hope Rodney is doing ok.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  591. royvic October 18, 2009 1:12 am

Patrons at a bar that I was at in Kalihi were laughing every time Idaho scored. So I just sat along with them, drinking the beers faster than I should, and it got to a point where I was laughing, too, more at listening to their comments during the game.

First of all, I can’t dispute what they were seeing and what they were saying regarding Hawaii’s play on the field.

“Our guys are slow. Our guys are fat. Our guys are out of condition. Our coaches are out coached,” said this one old guy at the bar.

To all the others at the bar, including myself, we were all probably in silent agreement to what that one person was saying.

“OMG you call that pass defense in referring to the LB play dropping back into coverage,” said a another one.

Yeah, he was right, too, I was thinking. And as I was gobbling more food and beers down in (I guess) relieving the pain of watching the Warriors getting beat.

It was ugly. It was funny. It was sad.

And when one of the bar girls, who had been serving us during the game, had asked how Hawaii was doing at the end of the game she got big laugh, too.

But not as big of a laugh Coach Mack got for that boner at the end of the game. Again. Even the television analyst was shaking his head and questioning why the Hawaii coach was taking the penalty yardage in lieu of giving Idaho another down.

But it’s okay. Given the choice of exiling to totto’s island, and away from this misery–I’ll stick with this. Hawaii’s home.

  592. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 18, 2009 1:20 am

i can agree with our players either being slow or every team we have played being really fast.

a fellow Tsaiko and I noticed in todays game that the Idaho’s receivers were beating out our DB’s by 3-4 yards maybe even more at times whenever they threw deep (and when they did show it on TV).

regarding all the comments about yesterday’s game, cannot disagree with a one of you.

me, as a Warrior fan, I can say this:
“gonna yell, till i cannot yell no mo. gonna scream, till i cannot scream no mo. and when i cannot yell an scream, i’m gonna sit down and drink, and drink, and den i’m gonna get up, and yell samoa.”

    dare, i feel betta already….

  602. RainbowCliff October 18, 2009 4:24 am

Good Morning Tsaiko Nation, All I can say is to “HANG IN THERE” as it is going to be a long season. I am going to get this off my chest as I feel you good folks know what I can do “TO HELP” !

First and foremost the Al Wooten Center is in the hub city of ALL the local major High schools in the South Bay and South Central Los Angeles area. At the Center we are running a College Trak program run by an AWESOME 21 year old graduate from Boston College who is tutoring students on SAT preperation. Pete Carrol has 3 incoming freshmen from Washington Prep H.S. enrolled in our SAT prep program. We need the statistics as fee waivers are being used or Pete got ALUMNI to take care of ANY cost. Washington H.S. is just 8 minutes away from my Center.

I wear my Hawaii attire almost everyday and when I do I am ALWAYS approached by HS students am I a coach for Hawaii or what affiliation do I have with them ? my answer is many but the point that I am making I got some GREAT young H.S. talent in the area that I work and live as I am SO CONFIDENT I can get to play and sign to Hawaii.

I have schools as Inglewood, Hawthorne, Leuzinger, Serra, Gardena, El Segundo, North, West and South Torrance H.S. that are just DYING for some Ohana and with my athletic background history and living among you GREAT folks they will be ready to adapt to the culture, food and life style of the Hawaiian Islands.

In South Central Washington Prep BUT a small school H.S. just open up just 8 minutes away from my Center. Amino Charter with about 400 students and a football team just started with some HS talent that is unknown as I have seen talented samoan and african american angelino’s have size, quickness and GREAT speed as they practice at Henry Clay Middle School in which I pick-up 2 of my students from there to attend the Center. Pete and Rick don’t know NOTHING about this school existing.

Morningside H.S; Dorsey, Manual Arts, Compton, Centennial, Fremont are ALL in my domain with TALENTED players you would not believe waiting for “BIG KAHUNA RAINBOW CLIFF” to get them ready for PARADISE !

The SAD part to all of this is Coach Mack won’t recruit mainland H.S. athletes as he just want athletes with “polynesian background or have a relationship to Hawaii”. When I heard this ridiculous statement I just became so flustered as I said to myself I came to Hawaii and I had no polynesian or Hawaii link background with MANY other LA athletes that played for Hawaii. Ricki Bass, Dewayne Jett, Dana McClemore, Mike Stennis, Karl Kennybrew, Chris Roscoe, Keith Hill, Gary Allen and the BEST of them ALL Cliff Sanchez. NEED I SAY MORE !

You BUILD your program with FRESHMEN and I am around the GOLDEN POT of it all here in Los Angeles. I have offered my services (FREE) on many occasion to reliable sources but I am hearing that I am a violation, I am not a coach and ANY involvement with scouting or recruiting would put the program in NCAA infractions.

In closing I have TRIED to really help my Hawaii athletic teams. I live in LA so there is NO need to send ANY coaches as I am right here. Have a BEAUTIFUL 4 door sedan with Jack helmet Hawaii attenna ball and Warrior license plate holder showing the OHANA everyday !

I know for a fact I can GO into Pete Carrol’s and Rick Neuheisel back yard and become “THE SILENT MAHI MAHI” and bring you good folks some GREAT young freshmen talent with athletic and academic skills.

But everytime the DOOR GET’S SHUT IN MY FACE as I finally let you folks know on this blog on what I am prepared to do to make Hawaii into a POWERHOUSE !

I am confident, I know the parents as teachers hold me in high regard and guidance counselors love the aura of this good looking BODINKEE talking credits, gpa and sat testing. H.S. Coaches work out with me at Magic Johnson 24 hour fitness and LOVE me keeping them in shape as I am known in Magics Gym “The 51 year old Rainbow Legend”

Have a GREAT morning as I tried good folks to really help you. I am off to play my tennis, work out at magic’s and re-visit one of my former players that I coached in Redondo Beach who with other players are scheduling a pre-ceremony gathering in honor of my 17 years at Wooten. The fruits of my labor have grown and want to show homage as I am blessed and honored. Any comment you folks leave to this message I will read later. Aloha ! RainbowCliff.

  603. Shannon October 18, 2009 4:25 am

Hey…Even JJ went 3-9 in his 2nd year…but he also went 9-4 and beat OSU in the Oahu Bowl his 1st year… 🙁

  604. RichfromOc October 18, 2009 4:33 am

#591 that was a good read… I wish I could have been there instead of watching the game on gameplan, in the closet and in SC country.

  605. onandon October 18, 2009 4:44 am

RC, I’m sure that you could help out quite a bit, especially given the amount of football talent in your area along with your rep that you have. However, it is my understanding that there are NCAA issues that would pop up esp. with you being an alum and trying to recruit athletes. However, it would be great if the coaching staff would respond to your offer to help, even if it is just establishing a relationship with some of the coaches that you are close with in LA.

  606. duffer October 18, 2009 5:35 am

    @c_c………..

Mahalo for the video, wish I was there! 🙂

    Good Morning Tsai-kos!

  612. Hank October 18, 2009 6:25 am

    Aloha Kakahiaka…

So great to have this place to express our feelings.

First, thoughts of healing, recovery and peace to not only Rodney Bradley (love his game), but to GA, Aaron Brown, Brashton, Pollard, Hafoka, and all the others who are not playing because they have pushed their bodies to the limit…Mahalo to you all.

Although losses are hard, and injuries harder, I can’t help but feel that this season is not “over”. Call me crazy, but I don’t think the Hawai’i Bowl is out of reach. Boise’s great, but they have not been playing well over the past several weeks. They have shown signs of vulnerability against UC Davis and Tulsa. Me thinks fatigue may be setting in and I think the Karma of their game against Oregon where their player (and fans) was caught trash talking before getting punched will come back to bite them. Our Defense always plays to their potential at home, and with Moniz feeling the offense…it is not an impossible win. So why not shock the college football world and kick their a….!!!

I believe our guys can do it.

San Jose, USU, and NMS are winnable. Navy struggled against SMU, and Wisconsin lost at home yesterday. Hard, but not impossible. One game at a time – with the Broncos next week.

    Go Warriors!
