Storylines:
> The Warriors need to run the table for a winning regular season and accompanying berth in the Hawaii Bowl. But if they win two of next three, a 6-7 UH team still has a chance to qualify for the postseason if there are not enough bowl-eligible teams to fill bowls.
> Boise State, ranked No. 19 everywhere, needs to win and get some help if it wishes to qualify for the Mountain West title game and a chance at a New Year’s Day bowl. The Broncos’ lone loss, to Wyoming, was critical because the Cowboys are unbeaten in the Mountain Division. The Broncos need Wyoming to lose twice because the Cowboys own the tie-breaker advantage between the teams.
> Running back Jeremy “McWeapon” McNichols, quarterback Brett Rypien, slot/wildcat Thomas Sperbeck, nose tackle David Moa … well, you get the picture. The Broncos are still the New England Patriots of the Mountain West.
> Is this the breakout game for wideout Keelan Ewaliko, who has received a lot of reps this week? He was targeted eight times in the past two weeks after being thrown to once in the season’s first eight weeks.
First in your hearts?
We getting killed today. Hide the women, the Mexicans and the Muslims. And the Rainbow Warrior fans.
When it’s March and I’m twiddling my typing fingers with boredom, I’ll really be missing days like today.
Any day with football is a great day. Well, except for the NBA playoffs. Those are two great months.
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs:
Jes wishin’ and hopin’ for a miracle finish today.
GO Warriors!
Jus hoping a great offense is scripted and executed today. Go Warriors !!!
I was just hoping to remember it’s an earlier kickoff.
(But not an earlier ending. These national games tend to have looong commercial breaks.)
Self-fulfilling Prophesy time: Beat Boise and UH will win out for a bowl game.
GO WARRIORS!
8th!
Looking for a good showing on national TV by the Warriors. Even if we do not win today so far it has been a great year for a team that has been beaten down the past 3 years. Play to win. Play with respect for your teammates and your opponent. Play with PRIDE!
LIVE ALOHA! PLAY WARRIOR! DEFEND PRIDE ROCK! GO WARRIORS!
The team is still searching for the consistency all good teams have. The offense , defense and special teams have all shown flashes of quality play but not on a consistent basis. All units have made numerous mistakes that contribute to a loss. Like many have said, myself included, this team is still learning how to win.
I do believe the players and coaches learned a little something on how to win or at least how to give yourself a chance to win from the SDSU game. I really expect them to play with a lot more focus and intensity then last week. I’m hoping the outcome won’t be decided until the final minutes of the 4th.
Marcus Kemp! John Ursua! Keelan Iwaliko! Makoa Camanse-Stevens! Dylan Collie! Paul Harris! Diocemy Saint Juste! Steven Lakalaka! Kaiwi Chung! Tui Unga! Dakota Torres! Dru Brown! O-line! Have a great day!
#9 cocobean – Agree! If they play their best in every phase for the entire game, anything is possible!
GO WARRIORS!!!
BREAK DA BRONCS!!!
Lakalaka starting again.
Okay, that was quick. Scored on in about 2 minutes.
So far samo samo. Penalty on kick return. Can not stop run to the outside. Toasted on deep ball. And no offense.
Seems every first possession has a penalty. And defense gives up quick score and offense cannot sustain drives.
Again. No offense. Defense needs help. Everything samo samo.
This looks bad….
Bad news. They scored again. Looks like deja vu. This could get ugly quick as Wyoming just lost to UNLV. So Boise is tied with Wyoming and Wyoming still has to play SDSU.
Why 4 and 5yds??????
Route was short!!!!
Shades or Walter Murray. Kemp drops a sure touchdown pass.
Defense stop em
Hold to field goal!!!
Commm on boys!!
Great run by Paul Harris with speed to the outside–why wasn’t he used in the SDSU game (think he only played one series in the 4th quarter of that game)?
Blitz em!!
Thank you D!!
Let’s pound the Rock!!!!!

To much heat!!
Moving to the shade!!
Let’s go boys!!!
We really look bad. Scoring against us looks really easy.
Unga was open.
They making him look better than Pumphrey.
Looks like they will score again. We look confused trying to force the issue. Either they are really strong or tackling is still a problem for us.
Our defense is gassed already.
Embarrasing on national TV. Very undisciplined…too many mistakes.
At least Hawaii is not going to get shut out again on national TV. That’s one small positive they can look to at the end of the game.
I’m having a hard time watching this game because they are overmatched.
Maybe we are seeing a Hawaii team reverting back to the mean – a 4 or 5 win team.
If Hawaii plays like this at Fresno St, they will see another L in their record again.
I think had more folks watching Kahuku last night. Maybe we should offer all seniors from Kahuku scholarships. That way we may get more folks in the stands. If there’s a coaching opening, offer Tata a job. Couldn’t hurt.
Overmatched is one thing; Rolo is trying to lay a foundation and doesn’t have all the materials yet. But outplayed and outcoached? Well, that’s a dangerous combination.
Not laying the blame on Dru, but think we may see Ikaika starting the second half.
Need to have something positive to build on and take to Fresno next week.
At halftime, this is Norm Chow’s revenge. Hawaii couldn’t bear Sacred Heart.
Yep. Watching the game right now. Not only are the coaches pleasuring themselves in the booth, apparently the players are doing the same on the sidelines.
Wow…never seen a single player make his team the worst on offense, defense and special teams the way Keelan Ewaliko can. Never.
He may be a good practice player and a good kid but man when he steps onto the field his team has no chance.
No Ikaika Woolsey, please. Leave him on the sidelines to pleasure himself. I would rather see Aaron Zwahlen. Coach Rolo, if you are actually coaching, please start Aaron.
Hawaii will remain in the MWC in football for many more years. They won’t be leaving the MWC anytime soon and I don’t think the MWC wants them to leave.
Hawaii pays for all travel cost for other teams to play here. In turn, they get to beat Hawaii to a pulp on national TV. Great set up for other teams in the MWC. The league will always need that one guarantee win on schedule. Hawaii is that team.
Brown didn’t drop a pass that could have been 6. At least he is running more. Don’t know if he can take the hits. He looks so tiny out there.
Fumble!!! They will score again.
Bring in AZ !!
I wasn’t calling for Dru to be replaced. He suffered a blow to the head, and figured Rolo was going to make a change.
Going get uglier.
Dru is not the problem but the game is out of hand…give AZ the reps. This game is over.
Rolo couldn’t bench Dru if he wanted to because … he had all the benches removed from the sidelines. Gotta love that; coach ain’t giving up.
Can any UH receiver catch with his hands?
Just 13 more field goals to tie. Hold ’em defense, give Rigo a chance!
Toasted again.
Bummer another score. Need more field goals. We look very, very bad. I
Ursua was out of bounds.
my observations:
watching Boise in pre-game – 90+ % of all passes were caught with “hands” and in full stride – UH — 60% or more of all passes were too short, away from a receiver
discipline — Boise full of it — UH needs a lot to be desired – fault belongs to all coaches starting with the HC — witness the number of penalties for UH
is Rolo and position coaches afraid they will hurt a player’s feelings? if so, in the wrong business
Rolo may have been the right selection, but his choice of OC, DC and position coaches turning season into something less than desirable – important OC/DC based on “friendship” and Rolo’s conclusion that both can successfully work with position coaches
Kemp – some on this blog look at him as a potential NFL player — yes, he has the height, but speed and catching with his hands??? wide open pass – he used his “forearms and chest” and ball bounced away – certainly not the first nor I will say the last time!!!!!!!!!
again, play selection left a lot to be desired and the “D” same — don’t understand if the “base” set of 3 DL and 4 LB cannot get to the QB, what makes the DC feel a “prevent D” will work — heck, it was obvious that the 2 DL and 5 or 6 LBers could not penetrate Boise’s OL
Curran and Veneire (sp) kept repeating on radio that UH has a “bowl game” chance if they are 6 – 7 — if all things fall into place – – dreaming, dreaming???
also mentioned that if UH has a great recruiting class and a good spring camp, UH may surprise many next year — they really believe the “freshman” class can start?
how many very good HS seniors will gravitate to UH? few if any!!! heck, most of the top 15 local players don’t even consider UH — if UH is lucky, maybe 1 or 2.
Fresno St may be bad, but UH seldom does well on the mainland.
Rolo’s removing benches for the 2nd half — effective? not my observation as the O and D kept up the sad paces.
yep, just my opinion!!!
Gifford way too many penalties.
A-House: these things happen when you’re a first year head coach inheriting a very terrible team with players who are either terrible or weren’t developed by the previous coaching staff.
The coaches, including rolo, need more than 2/3 of a season to turn anything around.
But there is definitely a lack of talent leftover from the chow regime. That guy really drove the program off the cliff.
but you’re right, though. marcus kemp isn’t an nfl player.
Man we slow. Even our runningbacks get caught from behind. But we no can catch theirs.
Looking back at the pivotal point in time when Hawaii chose Chow as the HC, I don’t blame Chow entirely. I blame the power brokers at UH when they formed all their committee’s to find a coach only to find out that Chow was always someone in the higher ups at UH first and only choice.
This program will feel the affects of that one bad decision for years to come. This year’s team is definitely better than teams of the last 4 years. But, Rolo will need time to turn it around. Thankfully for Rolo, he has a long leash on his tenure in Hawaii because UH has limited resources.
Rolo on brief post-game radio interview. Quotes were something like this:
“We haven’t been good offensively for the past month. We need to evaluate what we’ve been doing, and that’s from the head coach on down.”
“Paul Harris was our lone bright spot on offense. I give him a lot of credit.”
(On removing the benches): “While the game’s going on on the field, we have 20 guys sitting on the bench like they’re on vacation. I told them if they want to do that, then go to the locker room and take the benches with you.”
Well, hope the team can recover from the past three weeks. While the margins of defeat were tough to stomach, it was not unexpected they would go 0-3 in this stretch. There’s still a lot to play for.
Whoa. Nos. 2, 3 and 4 all lost today.
…effects of that one bad decision…

On a brighter note, Currently and Veneri was saying on the radio if Hawaii wins out, they have a chance to play in a bowl because lack if qualified teams.
When was the last time Hawaii still in the picture for a bowl game this late in the season?
Again, tough loss on national TV. I just hope they don’t take fresno st lightly because they are a 1 win team because they could be a 2 win team after they play Hawaii.
Back to back games of the same ilk, make it very hard to watch to the very end.
Negatives, perimeter speed on both sides of the ball is still hurting us. Penalties to start the games and drives, places in the hole from the get-go (when you have just average talent, this just kills everything–but, this should be placed sparely on the coaching staff). Drops, drops and drops. While punting and field goals are superior, we don’t get much out of our return games, and we lose the field position battle consistently.
Positives: I still think our interior line play is pretty solid. Dru is gritty as hell. We have a helluva a kicker. We are playing a lot of young guys. RBs are better than average.
I have no problem with a first year coach getting only 4-5 wins, I’m a little gracious accepting teams putting 50plus on us consistently.
Brett Rypien is a really, really good quarterback. His passing was right on the mark with the receivers in full stride ( a few steps ahead of Hawaii’s DBs I might add). And I thought Boise St’s coaching staff designed plays where their receivers were often wide open. It seemed our defensive backs often did not have a clue what was going on. If not that, then they were simply beaten by skill and speed. I fell asleep in the 3rd quarter.
Tomorrow, Rigoberto Sanchez will be the official leader in field goal percentage.
Thank you for staying with the team even though your coach invited Lou Holtz to fall practice.
Tough loss with another big game Next week. Rest up warriors
Guud Evening Tsaikos…Bootiful Evening!
OUCH!
Ok now time to get ready for the Golden Screwdriver Trophy next week.
IMUA WARRIORS!
OC leaves a lot to be desired. The past few games have been reminiscent of the offense under Chow. They said on the radio that it appeared Rolo got more involved in the play calling toward the end of today’s game.
Kemp … even when he makes catches, most of the time he catches with his body. That alone will keep him out of the next level. He hasn’t been able to break the habit.
Silence their lying lips-those proud and arrogant lips (CNN & their cronies)
You love evil more than good and lies more than truth.
The Lord detest lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth.
REPENT OF YOUR SINS AND TURN TO GOD
This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I’m telling you about.
“He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. From one man* he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries.
“His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist.
When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God.
Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
In this time of uncertainty help us Lord to recognize our inadequacy and our need to put our trust in you.
Pride Rock
Mr. Fear God-
CNN and MSNBC do not compose of the supposed liberal media.
They are centerists.
They are not the perfect analogue to FOX.
Pride and Passion are the key characteristics of a winning football team. The players themselves must possess most of this and the rest is instilled by coaching/teaching. This team has been crushed by 3 teams that will finish in the top 25. They were picked to be a doormat of their conference. The 2 losses that hurt the most are the gifts to UNLV and NM. The most important thing for this team is Monday then Tuesday and so on till game time at Fresno, not another thing beyond that regarding football should enter their mind it all nonsense 4-4 from doormat is huge!
I applaud Coach Rolovich for removing the bench during the game “wake up” and understand what your doing-if someone has to tell you that you are immature and may not possess what it takes to be a winner.
I have observed both on TV and personally up close at games sideline antics that should not be tolerated. I grew up played and coached in an era when the rule was if you in uniform “keep your head in the game” otherwise you might be looking for it or at least a uniform other than the one your currently playing.
1 more win make this season a big stride forward despite the setbacks, 2 wins makes it huge! GoWarriors!!!
Let’s not forget Perry, Moanu, Hensley, and Holly waiting in the wings among others and a full class to come!
Meant Eperone Moananu in previous post
Maybe next year guys… Might have to start next season with a dual qb system if the starter is bombing in the first half. Then pick one on the conference opener.
You’re not a real baller if you can’t catch with your hands
