Big win for Warriors
* This was a big victory for the Warriors. Why? Because during the summer, everyone kept saying the Warriors could not — NOT! — open the season 0-3. The Warriors showed talent in racing to a 21-0 lead; they showed heart in coming back from a 28-21 deficit. Squandering a three-touchdown lead is never good. But football is a game of momentum — and emotion — and, in the end, all that matters is whether you win or lose.
• It appears Spencer Smith will be out for several weeks. Preliminary indications are that he has a fractured forearm. This is a tough one because he’s good player and a really good guy. He’s worked hard to have a good senior season.
• One tradition I hope sticks is what occurred today. The Warriors went over and stood next to the Black Knights as Army’s alma mater played. Then the Army players went over to watch as the Warriors performed a haka. It was a classy move by both programs.
Let’s go, Warriors!!!
#1 Baby!
UH Warrior Fan For Life!
Up and At ‘Em!
Let’s Go!!
Wow! Actually first, for a change! Yup, remembering 9/11 and honoring our First Responders and Military for their sacrifices!
I wish I still weren’t on Hawaii time.
And I wish I had a pastrami sammich like the one in the pic, Stephen. Could you put one in your pocket and bring it back for me? 😆
Go WARRIORS !!!
Beat ARMY !!!
How do the guys look, Stephen? Gametime in 4 hours, I’m going back to bed!
Thanks to your pic we’ll be having pastrami sammiches for brunch.
Good morning, Stephen, DPK, and Tsaikos etal!!
GO WARRIORS!!!
BEAT ARMY!!!
Good night. Again.
Heyyyyyy Midnight!! Ready for the game?
Crud, I slept in.
Need to get showered up and leave the hotel for the 30 minute drive out to the game. Hopefully today’s game will remain entertaining, even though the emotions and significance of playing today will be up there.
Woke up at 7am Central time, getting kinda antsy, because I will be able to watch our Warriors beat Army live via our cable TV provider.
Special aloha to Liz and Slugger!!
Go Warriors! Beat Army!
Hi DPK! You betcha! Missed the tailgating and fellowship with the Tsaikos! But I have secondbest – I can be with you all vicariously through this wonderful blog by Stephen.
Go Warriors! Imua!
Ok, top 20, Go Warriors!!!! What am I doing up at this godly hour 2:20 AM. Body clock all out of whack now. Any, Go Warriors, again!!!!!
#14 Any=Anyway
The body clock will be better when we get to Vegas, well, if I go to sleep early.
It is hard to cheer against Army on 9/11…I hope for no injuries, respectful play, and a Warrior win.
Top 20.
For those who will work today or no PPV, UH-Army game on
channelsurfing.net
St,
Bring the pastrami sandwiches to the next T-gate and I’ll bring the Grey Poupon.
Pomai,
I hope I’m not too late…42-14.
Remember 9-11
This is a day to honor the 2,977 innocent men, women, and children slaughtered by evil Islamic jihadists — and to resolve that “Never again” remains America’s operational stance, not an empty slogan.
Army vs. Hawaii Warriors on this day. Not coincidental. It’s fate.
Alooooha from the durteeee south! Good luck Warriors! Beat Army!

Anyone know where I can watch the game in Hawaii???
channelsurfing (dot) net if you’re staying home…
MICHIGAN WARRIOR,
Mahalo for the info, get to watch about an hour before i have to leave….. 🙂
Hope all WAC teams playing this weekend win too!!!
If I have to head out during the game, I’m taking my son’s laptop!!!
On ESPN1420am (dot) com, there’s an ad for “Giovanni Pastrami”. It’s featured as the “Restaurant of the Week” with a 50% OFF printable coupon. With all the sandwich talk lately, has anyone eaten there recently?
It’s out at 227 Lewers Street out in Honolulu. Gonna take a look at their website and menu now…
Their website says they are open 6am to midnight during football season.
Any food/drink establishments out there airing the game? High five-ing alone after a touchdown is just not the same . . .
Man, their menu looks good… and they serve some of my favorite pizza from when I was stationed in California… Round Table Pizza! (But actually… if I was back home… no one can beat Big Kahuna Pizza!!!)
Great Morning All!
IT’S SATURDAY!

Never forget…..
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,
On a day of solemn remembrance, may all of our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines who are at harm’s way be kept safe through their tours.
Go Warriors!
Good morning!!!
Bowing the head to remember all who lost their lives on 9/11, those first responders who fell ill after helping others, and all remaining.
#39… little lost warrior… I think some Tsaikos posted maybe a couple of days ago where they might try to meet up at for today’s game. If anyone recalls off-hand, please post that info again here so little lost warrior has somewhere to go!
Other than that, like I said above, Giovanni Pastrami (on Lewers Street in Waikiki) opens at 6am… although, truthfully, I don’t know anything about the place. I just noticed their ad on ESPN1420am (dot) com, and looked them up.
top fiddy.
WOO HOO!
GO WARRIORS!!

GO WARRIORS!
Hi, midnight & Barbara!
Morning to the Tsaikos who are up…sjmacro & myki, enjoy breakfast at Murphy’s. The bambucha nachos woke me up at 3:30 this morning…guess I won’t have that again.
CRW, hope you have a safe drive to the Academy. Meet up with the A-House ‘ohana and get a sweater vest for the winter compliments of Na Wahine Softball Booster Club.
I’m sure Don Weir is up there rousing the UH fans & meeting up with Ellerson.
ST ~ Thanks for the pictures…Oliver Twist wants more, please…
@#39,
Club Genji, Murphy’s, Nancy’s, are some of the spots mentioned earlier. Buffalo Wild Wings will be the place for the ESPN crew…
Mahalo, Annoddah Dave! I have been away from home so long, I’m not familiar with those places, so I didn’t want to just throw out business names without knowing if they are even on O’ahu or not! lol
little lost warrior,
Where are you closer to?
Downtown/Chinatown > Murphy’s Bar & Grill, Merchant St.
McCully-Mo’ili’ili > Club Genji, So. King St. & Hauoli St.
Waikiki > Giovanni Pastrami, Lewers St.
Buffalo Wild Wings is in the Ilikai Hotel, Ala Moana area.
When I lived in Flagstaff, we used to go to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch UH games. One of the managers was/is from Maui.
Go Warriors!
Go Wildcats!
Annoddah Dave,
When the softball team was playing in the Super Regionals, I called Nancy’s and they were not going to be open early. Don’t know if they change their hours for football season.
GO WARRIORS!!!
BEAT ARMY!!!
Hawaii will start game first on offense.
Go warriors!
Radio for goarmy ($10) bummer but a bit better
than BC and RK if you can believe that…
Go Warriors!
Morning, gmahoney!
Morning, Slugger.
Slugger! You made it up!
Hi gmahoney!
Aloha, gmahoney!!!
Touchdown Hawaii!
Touchdown!!!!
Alright, Royce! TD!
Looks like Big City Diner in Waipio is open.
Hi Michigan Warrior, my most favorite daughter and her family live in Clawson. Where are you?
TD!!!
channelsurfing dot net is ahead of the radio feed…
Shane Austin holding the extra point attempt…
Moniz 26 yard pass to Royce Pollard.
Roseville… kinda close to Clawson…
In fact, they got one good store out there that we visit once in a while… Noble’s… we get our sushi from there!
Here at J J’s Broiler with the kid.
GO WARRIORS!!!
Where’s Liz?
Chee…Nice TD pass
All this time we talk on Facebook.. I didn’t know you had family out here! Gotta come visit sometime!!!
Noble Fish! I know where that is! They are huge Warrior fans, my granddaughter’s name is Brennan, born shortly after the Perfect Season. My daughter cleaned out the Rainbowtique when she was here.
Oh crap.. what happened? My channelsurfing just stopped. Anyone else got another site to watch?
A fine day of rememberance to all!
Missed the TD — video was not working and 1420 was spotty.
Argh!!!
Listening to Bobby Curran and Robert Kekaula now… dang it! C’mon, channelsurfing…
Great defensive stop! Keep our offense on the field! Let’s go, special teams!!!
Hope both teams play with honor and pride.
Go Warriors!
#67 sportsforum—thanks! Got the picture—free!
@#74…atdhe.net
duffer,
Did Liz have a meeting this morning?
Offense is clicking
duffer,
Yep. think Liz is at a meeting and sneaking updates on iPhone
Good morning Tsaikos. Go Warriors!!!!!
Good Morning from Pete’s Tavern across AT&T Park – city by the bay. I am here all by myself with my eggs, bacon and potatoes. The manager here said he lived in Waianae. My hotel was crawling with Colorado Buffalo fans – they play at Cal today. Go Warriors…wahoooo!
Nice move by Bradley to get into the endzone 14-0.
WooHoo!
Whoo-hoo!
TD!!! Good morning, everyone!!!
BC and RK are like a couple of minutes delayed.
MI Warrior, good feed on atdhe.net.
Auryte PP!
Gotta keep it going and pour it on for now… remember… we’re still underdogs!!!
Good morning Tsaikos!
This offense is firing on all cylinders. Looking good 14-0 in the 1st qtr.
Yeah, got it, girl! Mahalo! Really miss you guys!
channel surfing football picture is jerky
but the commercials sail through perfectly…
hmmmm???
Hi, d1! Go wildcats!
#80… sportsforfun… mahalo for da link! Forgot about this site!
Eggs, potatoes & avocado now cooked. Ready for another cuppa kope and another Hawaii TD.
Does anybody know where I get can get a WAC patch, like we have on our uniforms ?? I need it Bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like our game against Navy last year helped prepare many for this Army option attack. C’mon WARRIORS make it 21-0.
Another nice defensive stop.. playing real good disciplined assignment football now! Defense is doing it!
PP . . .
Cheer loud (like anyone had to tell you that) and make the Buffalo fans curious.
Go WARRIORS from JJ’s!!!!
1st sack for Army. First Hawaii punt comin’ up.
Off topic,
Ask B$-You…they get plenny! They not using ’em anyway! 👿
Weird defensive set, and they end up sacking Moniz because of it…
Good to see the 25th Infantry Division’s patch on the Army uniforms. Tropic Lightning!
Way to go D!
Good Army field position, but the defense rises to the task again! Go, Warriors!!!
wafan, I hope UH busses ‘um up next week. I asked them who they play today and they just walked by and said “Cal” all while being super self-absorbed in their black and yellowness. They didn’t even notice my GREEN shirt of their opponent next week. UGH, please…I hope my fellow Tsaikos and friends give ‘um hell in Boulder next week.
Defense playing solid!
Anybody going to the Mountains next week to watch us dominate, Guys here in CO are already talking Shit about us.Hope I don’t get thrown out, might need somebody to watch my back.
Hi, PowderPuff!
Glad you found a place to watch the game this morning in my favorite City by the Bay.
GO WARRIORS!!!
Hey PP I wouldn’t have noticed your GREEN shirt either. I’d be looking at your SMILE! 🙂
You were smiling right?
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
Just loving the defense!
Go Warriors!
Great game so far, and the blog wishes for classiness are happening. We have our flag out today rather than game banner. The USAA and now Wounded Warrior commercials are *sniff*
Question, why are the Army players wearing Tropic Lightning patches for this season? Coincidence?
That shovel was sweet!!!
Alex Green! Great run…over 20 yds.
off topic,
I don’t have WAC patches, but for a donation to Na Wahine Softball Club, I have a few Aloha shirts with “Western Athletic Conference” embroidered on the sleeve – I think they are only size Medium, though.
Aw duffer…good morning, and give a big high 5 to the kid for me. He’s a super kid.
See Thrasher – they are soooo lame. Kick their Rocky Mountain balls next week! Hey slugger…this place is super cool right across the ballpark. Guess there’s a Giants’ game today too.
At least these announcers tried to practice the Hawaiian names. 🙂
Gmorning Gang!
Good to see familiar faces on the blog this early in the morning!
Geev um Warriors!
TD HAWAII!!!! PILARES!!
The way we’re rolling now… we can’t let up! But can’t get too cocky about it either. Pilares TD!!!
TD Hawaii!
Yay for the TD Pilares/Moniz!!!
48 yard touchdown pass from Moniz to Pilaris
Good question on the patches, it might be just for this game against Hawaii. I seem to recall them wearing a mix of patches in the past.
Pilares…
Moniz to Pilares = TD! Yay!
We’re still underdogs this game… wonder how we’ll be looked at next week?
ha’a ha’a
PowderPuff- You wreaking havoc dis morning?
Bwahahahahahaha!!!
Easy Tigah!
Didn’t the announcers on tv say they change patches each week to honor different units?
Commercial break now…Good morning, Tsaikos & Tsaikettes, Lurkers & Lurkettes!
Hope all is well. My first time back on the WB in a long while and nice to see everyone here.
Stayed at home with the sniffles and coughs in hopes of not passing along this dang cold.
Watching the game on channelsurfing dot net and the volume is weak so plugged in my Bose noise reducing ear phones and can hear way better now. Just gotta remember to take off the earphones before going to the bathroom eeks LOL.
Keep it up team — GO WARRIORS!!!
Still calling him Polaris. They must think Navy is in town.
Warriors!!!!
C’mon defense! Don’t give up any first downs this half!!!
Howzit A-joe! This year’s offense is reminding me of the JJ years. Lookin’ good. This game is OVER. 😉
morning powderpuff. enjoy your breakfast.
Man… I shouldn’t have said anything…. Army’s 1st first down!
Slugger, PM the info I’m down.
Duffer — Got your text this morning — Hello to you and son!!!
Let’s go, Defense!!!
Uh oh. Army’s waking up. C’mon D!
Hey A-Joe
Wasssuuup
#129 #135 re patches maybe changing, thanks. Missed first few minutes. So far the CBS crew is a lot better (including that cadet) than the ESPN crew calling last week’s game.
PowderPuff,
I really like the ATT ballpark. Easy to get to via BART & MUNI. I’ll have to figure out where I can watch the Boise game in Oakland.
I smell a late his penalty coming up for Hawaii…they need to watch out.
his=hit. sheesh.
Game is not over until it is over but it is good to be very optimistic, I hate bachi.
Morning, Sir…whitey, oh yeah and Mr. d1. Haha, a-joe…see the kinds of things that go through my head when I get nobody fo’ talk to?!? Ha!
This is a very cool place…manager said he worked at Makaha Resort and lived on St. John’s Road in Maili.
Looks like GDL is over his nerves.
Whoo-hoo!
Army TD 🙁
Oooo..almost a blocked try.
What’s up with those push ups!!!!!!!!! LMAO
There goes the hopes for a shutout. Thought their left side jumped offside, but guess not. Gave them a taste of moving the ball… we gotta shut it down!!
Now we get the ball back and chance for another score — GOOOOOOO WARRRRRRRIORS!!! 🙂
We used to do pushups when I was in too… for EVERY point Army scores.
Just woke up and great to see hawaii on top. GO WARRIORS!
Nice return for Sampson…great field position again.
Good morning Hawaii, btw!
Hey PP, oh, can you see or hear the game there?
wafan- yup, still calling him ‘Polaris.’ Maybe somebody in the press booth can help him out.
Slugger here is my email if you can send me that info. ranch3d@rmi.net
Guess the official was watching the ball and not the knee. Should come back a few yds.
That’s not indisputable.. his shoe blocks the view of his knee.
Will there be a replay tonight or tomorrow?
Hey UHfan808, yup can see the game, but no volume. They have the main volume on the S. Carolina-Georgia game. Wish they would show a picture-in-picture of Jason Sehorn. Mmmmm. 🙂
San Jose St. down 14-0 to Wisconsin with a minute left in the 1st half. They just had a FG try blocked.
Nice run Moniz!
Great escape technique, Moniz!
Okay… our offense is looking shaky this series. Get it together, guys!
At least we keep the 1st down.
Second sack, same guy.
C’mon O line
What the heck are we doing on offense now? Can’t let Army back into this game!!!
I think everyone in the stadium knew that bomb to Salas was comin’ up.
Should’ve ran the ball to let the clock keep running.
PP – Hmmm, come to think of it, you’re lucky you can’t hear. I’m missing Robert Kekaula on the internet version with the sound ON and am having to listen to the announcers mispronounce our guys’ names and say all kinds of negative things first chance they get. LOL
vision problems?????
moniz is holding the ball too long.
need a change?????
UHFan88. Got my ears on too.
Cmon Warriors! No mistakes!
where’s the running game to slow down the rush???????
IT’S SATURDAY!!
Commercial break…
Michigan Warrior, Maybe a dumb question, but are you a Hawaii Warrior fan who now resides in Michigan, or are you a Michigan fan who cheers for the Hawaii Warriors. Just curious about your blog name, hi-ya! 🙂
Gotta say that’s a great name for an Army QB: Trent Steelman Sounds like a Top Gun name.
UHF808 . . .
Nice to see you back! Hope you feel better soon.
The negative comments are less biting than those made by the FSU, UN-R, and BSU announcers and that very biased softball woman.
Happy Birthday and Happy Belated Birthday to all my Tsaiko family!
Howdy Ronnie!
While waiting on the sidelines O-line, get ready for our next opportunity. Do everything you can to push those chains forward and protect da MZ!
Hey Liz, those things work pretty darned good, yeah?
Hi 99club!
#188… UHfan808… Born in Queen Kapiolani hospital, grad from Campbell high school… (classmates with a couple of Tsaikos)… after my Army time and Eagle Hardware time, now living with my family in southeast Michigan… A UH fan since hanabata (Termite Palace) dayz.
Ronnie – HEY! Yep, it’s our first game on a Saturday! Are you coming home anytime soon?
10-0 NE over ID in the 2d Qtr.
Wore my “H” shirt yesterday (my own Aloha Friday celebration). Anyhow, went to the bank. The teller takes a look and says she graduated from UH a bunch of years ago, she then tells me I should talk to one of the bankers to update some information.
So, I go see the haole guy sitting at the desk. First thing out of his mouth is, “Eh, wea you grad?” He grew up in Waianae and graduated from HBA. HA!
Those of you who went to UH and the music buildings would know about the Gillete (sp?) building. That was his step (great?) grandma. Dang!
Never really got the information updated. Oh well. Forced to go back and talk story some more.
Ok! Halftime adjustment time.
Go Warriors!
wafan, Glad to read that you made it home safely. Good seeing you last Thursday during pre-game T-gate. Wish I knew you were here all along. Next time we gotta go eat sumting, my treat, k? Your choice and gotta be sumting you like. hehe
wafan, RE my *sniff sniff cough cough* THANKS! 🙂
Trent Steelman sounds like an Artillery officer, or maybe a Tank Commander.
So far so good…
… hope the heat and humidity isn’t taking a toll on the Warriors.
UH, second quarter…lacking intensity on both sides of the ball; hope they don’t think this is going to be a cake walk just because they scored 21points in the 1st quarter?
I agree, Moniz holding on to the ball too long…..don’t start messing around..stick to the game plan boys!!
wafan, RE online announcers’ comments, sometimes just one from just one of ’em is enuff 👿
Liz . . .
How is the meeting? Are you paying attention? Kind of embarrasing to stand up during a presentation
screaming and yelling when the Warriors score, yeah?
Army starting to penetrate our Oline… causing Warriors to draw some penalites… gotta make some adjustments… so far so good.. gotta keep playing to win.
Morning all..!!! I missed the first touchdown waiting for my computer to warm up.
And speaking of officers… why didn’t I ever have any of those fine cheerleaders as a Commander during my time in?
UHF808 . . .
If you came in from the back 40 more often . . .
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Good morning everyone. What’s the score?
#195 Michigan Warrior, Oh Tsigh of relief! j/k. We have at least two things in common, 1) we’ve both been born in the same hospital and 2) have both been in the termite palace! Was it your choice to live there, far far away?
Hey UHfan808!
I wish I was coming home! If I could take the time off, I’d come home for the Nevada game. Hawaiian Air had an air/hotel combo, but it was for 3 nights…
I’ll just have to settle for going to fresneck country to watch us beat the puppies!
MIH,
I think the reason for the penetration is because, Moniz is sitting back there too long, waiting for a reciever to get open; waiting back there ain’t going to work for any offense…gotta start mixing in some running plays to keep the, “D” honest.
wafan’s #206…bwahahahahaha! *cough cough cough* heeheehee!
Wife’s family was all up here when we moved back in 96. Now, we can’t wait to save up enough to move back home. Time for me to get back with family and UH. Hard thing is that her mom is now in a Nursing Home. We’ve taken care of her, off and on, since ’88. Just getting harder and harder with our big family and her diminishing health.
Where do you find vacuum tubes nowadays?
#207 madeinhawaii – hurry hurry, dey going start soon but haven’t quite yet hehe
UH is,(-8 yds.) rushing in the 1st half.
k, just started!
Rolo talked about QB1’s tendency to want to go for the kill shot on every play; he wants him to take the check downs more readily…
#206- I am behind a barrier at the edge of the room. Breakfast is on. No speaker yet.
Hiya Ronnie!
A bunch of us are enjoing breakfast & the game at Genji’s. What a spread! Typical local grinds. Very comfy, kinda like in your living room. Screens all ova!
Go Warriors!
#198 wafan – funny story! are they watching the game there?
waiting to see the warrior “pressure defense”. so far, all I see is 3 dl and nothing from the lb.
We look “not interested” on defense!
wow the announcers just gave compliments to the o- and d-line
Hey Kekoa! Tell everyone I said, “HI!”
Let’s go, defense! Where’ s da fire???
Wow, just saw a half-time score for Duke-Wake Forest game: 35-35. 70 pts in just the first half!
Ok, I have to head out to watch my friend’s son’s football game. 🙁
Kekoa, can you text me updates?
Sorry Ronnie! I’m so out of practice with blogging and watching simultaneously…
Okay sorry to hear and no worries, I’ll send big ((huggs)) your way via Rob25!!!
Prayer for Spencer Smith.
Announcers trying to jinx us…
aiee Spencer Smith is down.
The Warriors are down- letdown.
the coyotes are eating the gophers.
hope spener is ok.
Egads. Smith is still down.
Uh oh. DB Spencer Smith still down. Talking about injured right arm…possibly a break. Replay looks gruesome.
Replay looks ouchie for Spencer Smith. He’s getting a cart ride back to the sideline or something.
Come D! Get fired up!!!
TD for Army. Come on, Let’s Goooooo Warriors!
Now we’re in a fight. Should’ve kept the gas on!
TD Army. I wouldn’t count any of those pushups! Looked like the ‘cheater’ variety.
As my friend from Tennessee says,
We got ourselves a dog fight!
GO WARRIORS!
somehow the d is not adjusting or army’s oline is much better.
I don’t care that it’s 9/11… or our opponent is Army… or their coach calls UH his alma mater… we gotta get back to how we opened the game… aggressive and on fire!!!
Army made that one look too easy..
CR4P!!!
Their running back transferred from Air Force Academy? Really unusual.
C’mon Hawaii! D up!
LET’s GOOOOO WARRIORS
Good Morning Hawaii!
OLDIE – is 1247 and 1255 the same picture-wise? Looks the same to be as if CBS is doing both with the same equipment.
should have let that one bounce… dang… bad turnover…
At least that’s good news about Spencer: sprained elbow, not a break.
HOLD EM BACK, HOLD EM BACK, WAY BACK, WAY BACK!!!
#216 Michigan Warrior – Well, whenever you can make it back, Tsaikos will be hea!
Boy-o-boy….the offense had better score much more points!!
kinda hard to have a pressure defense when you just sit on your arse.
99club,
Coach Ellerson commented on the guy. Something like: He started as a Zoomie but saw the error of his ways. 😆 (sorry)
This is a long timeout. Just like before their last score.
#256.. UHfan808… I cannot wait!!!
BE CHAMELEON-LIKE AND MAKE LIKE DA EYE OF THE TIGER, WARRIORS —>GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good stop! Bet they go for it.
WHOOO! Keep it up, do that again!!!
Great assignment ball by Aaron Brown!!!
Aaron Brown!
Big stop by Aaron Brown.
Hold them!!!!
12 men on da field 🙁
STILL…KEEP UM BACK NO MATTA WHAT!!!
12-man …dumb error… that hurts Hawaii .!
Dumb mistakes.
Oooo…they only have 1 timeout left. Huge play coming up.
Let’s go Warriors!
….what is up with our substitution coaches?!???….:<<<
oh geez…deep fan-watching brreatth *pant pant*
Announcers made it sound like if he had just run to the sideline, the Army QB was waiting for him to get off the field.
Hang in there UHfan808!
…Army is punching us in the face…we gotta PUNCH BACK!!!
so far tormey’s special team, 1 cough up, 12 man on field. ok coach, what else????
Why did we just watch a Marines commercial during an Army game?
Dang.
#261 Michigan Warrior –! Hope you LOVE to eat! hehehe
dang, an army TD
👿
ARgh…
Army made this comeback look way too easy…
Warriors need to settle down and play with confidence.
Now we got a game!
another dumb penalty… what’s happening?
So, we start great, then get stupid stuff like penalties and special teams breakdowns…
21 up.
Dang.
Composure….starts with the coaching staff.
Time to focus, focus, focus!
that’s something new in football, the warrior’s “SPECIAL TEAM” is giving out points to keep the game interesting. Way to go coach!!!!!
@WARRIORS: NOW IS THE TIME TO *OVERESTIMATE* YOUR OPPONENT!!!
PATIENCE PATIENCE AND CONSISTENCY — Do what you were doing at the beginning of the game AND bump it up a whole couple million notches and you’ll be jus’ fine 😉
What’s with the penalties?
dayumn…… another sack and turnover?
Looks like a counter-strike by Army.
Go Warriors!
Dang, now we’re really falling apart.
SAME OLD HAWAII……… AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO GOOD TO GET/HAVE DA INSIDE SCOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#277 99club – O.K., us both!
He was wrapped up and should’ve been blown dead. We’re playing stupid now.
outta bounds!
Aigoo!
so much for the running game, nada, zero, but we still get one qb who cannot see, will not throw, etc. Way to go coach. Great preperation for game.
dam dam dam dam dam dam
BE LIVE IT K KOW LA!!!
Now we gotta answer. Gotta get our heads back in the game.
time to change qb???? damm right!!!!
#291 whitey – Hi! ooh la la, what premiums will they get?
geez, my hands are sweating and soon i’ll have to resuscitate my mouse from drowning. 👿
just sitting back and enjoying the couch
OK, if we don’t hold, we should get the ball at mid field.
Yup, we definitely need to go back to the run to slow down that rush.
you are soooo right whitey!
i saw pushing pushing both sides!
calm down cool head slowly but surely, Warriors!!!
That’s what I’m talking about… keep pounding that ball.
Cmon team, wipe off that third-quarter goose egg!
Add 15! Yeehaw!
Both hands facemask! Impressive.
BHF2, Happy, now belated, Birthday! Did you see our FB wishes? 🙂
Way to go Pilares!!!
He’s like a missile! (Polaris, get it?) 🙂
Yay!
TD us!!! whoooohooo!!!
Answer!
Wooot!
thank goodness.
i still say my couch is wonderful. 😆
guess rolo got the message. you ain’t tonna be in the game just pissing in the wind.
Eh.. did you guys see our gang??? Thank you, camera guys!!!
Phew… tied game… Warriors made that look easy too.. and they needed to respond quick to quiet the crowd.
uhfan808
yeah. thanks
and yay!
#319 99club – yeh, that IS , turn the negative into a positive hehehehehe
iwe shoujld send a coupla our coaches to Boise. learn how to do the wide stance defense.
😆
we need a stop!
#302 Michigan Warrior – YES YES YES YES YES YES YES !!! !!! !!! !!! !!! !!!
then on the other hand, i think they already know how to do the wide stance defense.
😎
New Army QB… shut him down!
The TV announcer’s on CBS are OK, but they mangle names you’d think be easy to get. Pilares is ‘Polaris,’ and Chizzy Dimude was Chee-zay Dee-moo-day.’
Great job, D!
uhfan, long time no see, good to see you giv em with your pingers!!! hoooooo haa
Get fired up, D!
Yesss…get the ball back.
Three and out… no penalties… no turnovers… time for our offense to pour it on!!!
I am not gonna be happy until we KEEEEL Army!
everybody gotta do their jobs.
especially the coaches!
They’re killing me with the penalties!
Time for another TD.
Go Warriors!
with flair, can Chizzy turn our opponents into swiss cheese!?!
uihfan
keep the positive vibes coming!
howzit wafan
way to go special team, give army some more yds to kick our okoles
Nice extra effort Salas! 1st down.
Go Moniz; Go Salas!!!
Get it back, get it back, get it back!

Precise- surgical- we know how to do this…
AAARRGH!
Wow announcers just said that’s Hawaii’s 10th penalty. 🙁
c’mon Warriors!
bhf2 . . .
Hi! Was good to see you at the T-Gate!
Whoo-hoo!
Great punt! Now let’s get a turnover.
precise, surgical
criminee, jee whillekers! 😆
SSSSSSSSSSWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#337 whitey; #345 BHF2 – ooh, then sending the Warrior positive vibes thru the keyboard!!!

Ai-goo mal-ee-ya!
Fourth quarter… who wants it more???
the mind it always comes down to the mind
…wish we ran the ball more to keep them honest…jeez, we out weigh those guys by 50 pounds on the line!
BRB, gotta go best buy to get a new mouse j/k but geez, almost pretty soon la dat
Oh yeah, commercial break!
Lets go Warriors!
Can do, can do, can do… GO WARRIORS!
I mean… our pass was effective against USC… I’m thinking because our rushing was decent. We need to run against Army until they show they can stop us.
Gotta hold ’em.
army used a 9 man line and qb cannot deliver a homerun. the r and s thrives on 9 men line.
BHF2:
#341 – DITTO that sentiment, please!!!
#369 – YES! Now is good time to practice what it means to have a STRENGHTENED mind!!!
incomplete!
michgan warrior, don’t think our coaches know how to change or adjust. they have no clue as to what to do when you get the lead, then no clue on how to make defensive adjustments. Game is simple, when you get them down, like bhf2 says, keel em.
Big series for Hawaii’s D…
UP AND AT ‘EM *HARD*, WARRIORS!!!
Hank, you’re soo right!
and talk about home team reffing!
Come on D, let’s go D!!!
our coaches on defense need a coaching clinic!
we outweigh Army line man for man
Grrr….
DANG – no do that again, pls!
Spots seem to be a bit generous.
time out, us
About time for the timeout!
coach aranda, where’s the pressure defense????? all i see is a sit and react defense.
Not much time left, now’s the time to PUSH WITH EVERYTHING YOU HAVE, WARRIORS!!!
WARRIORS = DA GREEN AND WHITE GUYS
Come on D!
9/11…………… ARMY……………. PEEPS W/CONTROL…………… EQUALS???…………… HAWAII TRAVELING FROM THE ISLANDS COST PLENTY $$$……………DO THE MATH…………………. PAST 20 YRS ALWAYS BEEN THE SAME FORMULA!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOGOGOGOGO!!!
Good vibes- WARRIORS!
LET’S GO WARRIORS *clap clap clapclapclap*
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WARRRRRRRRIOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSS!!!!
Count to 11
Let’s GO WARRIORS!!!
failed attempt; tied 28-28
all right.. partially blocked fg!! momentum changer.. take it to the house HAWAII!
Hardy-Tuilau!!! Block #1….
Yesss! Way to go special teams! Now it’s OUR turn to run the clock and score.
way to go, blocked kick!!! whooohooo!!!
Have a feeling this could go into OT.
amazing the warriors finally use their strength on special team. JT is a proven speed blocker and finally the coaches let em loose. Get hope for the coaches!!!!!
…BLOCK JOHN HARDY-TULIAU!!!!
What’s Enos’s range for FGs? 50?
@WARRIORS: NO FO’GET, THINK: HOLD ON TO THAT BALL WITH YOUR LIFE!!!
Time for lunch.
PATIENCE PATIENCE AND CONSISTENCY!!!
lunch? what’s that?
AAAARRRRRGH!
It’s okay Warriors, regroup and start again from where you are
John Hardy-Tuliau doing what he does best…block that kick!
GO WARRIORS!!!
I went through the shirts that I have for softball fund-raising and I have more than I thought. I have a dozen Medium, blue reverse-print Aloha shirts with “Western Athletic Conference” embroidered on the sleeve. If you would like one, we are asking for a suggested minimum donation of $10. If you would like a tax-deductible donation, per the UH-Foundation, please donate more than $10 which is the value of the shirt. Mahalos!
coach, when we going see another trigger man??????? this not the nfl, you play to win with all of your players, no favortism or ego building!!!!!!
c’mon coaches!
COACH!
LEAD!
Time for Shane Austin long bombs…
annodah commercial break
We need a turnover!
A 30-yard punt?
Are they still trying to have him kick directionally?
Focus D!
Like last week’s game, officials seem to keep giving our opponents an extra yard, and take away an extra yard from us on spots.
#417 Slugger – oh oops, forgot to tell you that i’ll give you soon via email, my friend’s (lol) addy. gotta get um from him first. thanks!
Just kick it away… better from their 20 than from their 44…
ASSIGNMENT!
das right, Moniz is not the guy! he shouldnt be even on the team! they should have kick him off the team for what he did this past off season!
not good… unable to capitalize on a blocked punt situation.. C’mon Warriors!!
Let’s go D!!!
It’s a team effort and the team will do what it needs to do the way it needs to do on it’s own time
WRAP!
hold that line, watch those passes (you know the rest)
That was tackling? Bump him with your back?
What the heck?!?!
Again… defense not wrapping up… those extra yards are for nothing.
Push them back, push them back, way back, way back!!!
good
anxious! very anxious!
It is time Hawaii starts scrimaging in the fall, hell with the injury worries, cause Hawaii cannot tackle for a lick. Shoulder tackling will not cut it.
ugh…time out
hands dripping
coach aranda, your interior is doing a good job, but you are having problems on the seams because you have no pressure!!!!!!!
3 minutes left…tied game…Army has ball…
can we hold them???
Too bad we called time out… thier 2nd QB looks gassed too after that last hit.
looks like this is Coach Macs last year here! start looking for a new coach!
must do situation
*their
SD better win….not much pub in their next game.
Northwest Oklahoma State!
right now is the time to send positive vibes
go somewhere else if you can’t
DO THIS!
TACKLE!!!! WRAP UP!!!! WTF????
DEEEEEEFENSE!!!!!!!!
DEFENSE!!!
Good job. no biters!
No more timeouts for Army…biggest play of the game for Hawaii!
Bringing that safety up scared them… last Army timeout burned. 2:00 game
coach mc, play players who want to play, not just go thru the motion. Look what happens when you release JT, talk about speed and damage. Maybe, he should be the lb who can speed the qb. speaking of qb, this is the 2nd team qb for army and he can do no wrong???? attack em and see how he handles pressure, but then again, sad to say, we got no pressure.
#443 Ipu Man….. NO
DEEEEEEEEEEEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!
JD now has alot of problems, not only does he have to find a new conference, he has to find a new head coach.
Okay, regroup and stop them again, D!
That’s the ONLY choice you have! Go D!!!
minute to go…
timeout
BIG BIZ NEZZ!!!!!! FOLKS 🙂
Wow, down to last seconds. No more time outs. Think tough, keep playing tough.
now, we got to listen about how the 2nd team qb is getting to us. sheesh, coach, you no get the message?????
dang… here’s that 3-point spread that the oddsmakers gave Army coming up…
C’mon warriors.. defense!!
now is *still* not the time to complain but the time to send NUTTIN but POSITIVE VIBES!!!
pu-leeze
Go Warriors!
comeonboys

Oh man, I hope Army misses!

C’mon OLine!
If it was USC, that ball would be a no fumble.
all right.. let’s go Hawaii.. TD or FG…
Okay think, PUSH FORWARD *strong*, now!
Mahalo!
Moniz; Pollard. Late hit; late call.
Thank you, Army… just getting some of the gifts back that we gave you earlier…
Let’s GO, O-line!!!
whoohoo.. 1st down and I’ll take that late hit penalty… I’m not too proud.. c’mon Warriors!
Hurry and kick it!!!
YESSSSSS!
whoooooooooHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lucky
Wow, what a game!
Was that Pollard again?
Let’s go, Enos!!!
God loves me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hawaii wins!!!
Go EnoS!!!!!!!
“Field goal is good”
seven seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOOHOOOOO!
YIPEEEE with 7 seconds left!!! 31-28!!!
let’s go Warriors!! FG!… gotta kick deep.. and hold em for one down!
Finish it.
OMG, now my hands are flowing!!! yikes!
Yay! Scotty!!!
or just make sure they don’t run it all the way back…
Special teams gotta make the stop!
Yes yes yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that’s what I’m talking about.
Okay.. no freak stupid plays or penalties….
Kick it DEEEEEEEEEEP
LET’s be AGGRESSIVE!!!
WE WINNNNNNN!!!!!
From Hawaii’s 28 yard line, UH goes all the way to Army’s 15 yard line.
Hawaii kicks field go.
Go Warriors 31-28!
Hawaii WINS!!!!!!!!
YIPEEE!!! WE 31: them 28!!!
you know what is DS? first word is DOG!
We could have easily have lost that one. Whew!!!
the 3pt spread went the other way!!! whoo hoooo!
I wanna see the Warriors go over and thank their fans who traveled all that way
Whew! They pulled it out. Love the Warriors.
Soooooo *PROUD* of you, Warriors!!! YA WENT!!!
Good job, Warriors. Props to Army for a well played game.
yay, my sar kazz um worked:-)
Whew…
How we gonna stop Colorado?
Okay, we got a win, but… we still got some serious issues to address… mainly… no killer instinct!!!
#537 BHF2: and sumbudy to my soaked mouse hehe
YO, BETDAHOUSE!
Which beach you sleeping on tonight, LOSER!
NEVER bet against the WARRIORS!
Boise went over to their fans after the DC game and thanked their fans
last year i went to UNLV and the players didn’t come to the sidelines
i’d like to see some class because we deserve it!
Spotted Shane Austin’s mom in the stands.
…Our Defense deserves a lot of credit….who forced that fumble?
Auryte WARRIORS
uhfan, remind me the next time i see you, i will buy you breakfast, lunch, and dinner. good job with the pingers!!!!!!!
#541 red: you’re not seriously praising your sarcasm, eh? geez, pleeze, fleas
….This was a win that keeps this season “alive”….
st, ok, now you can relax, write a great story and get ready for your trip west. hoooo wheeee
Warriors has Class, standing side by side with Army for Armies alma mater.
….we have got to get that substitution problem solved…it cost us a touchdown today…
#550 whitey: shoots bra, i’ll take you up on dat! WOW!!! my mouse thanks you, and i thank you with all of my wet pingers, of course 😎
…the Warriors showed a lot of grit, pride, and courage today…i love this win…
hank, totally agree with you on the win. now is the next hump, but first enjoy this roadie.
OMG, my heart is still…POUNDING!!! PHEW, what a win!!!
We win – that’s the main thing.
But perhaps we should get rid of that 400+ defense playbook!
Beat COLORADO!
Hawai’i was out-played from the 2nd quarter on, BUT I’LL TAKE THE WIN!! Yeehaw!!
Pomai:
September 11th, 2010 at 4:27 am
UH vs Army
22 – 27 USMA BOW FAN
30 – 27 Committed Road Warrior
31 – 13 NCAA
31 – 13 ballpicker
NCAA and ballpicker seem to be da winnahs!
#555… Hank… yup… instead of a field goal, we MADE Army go for and score a touchdown.
There is some top flight HS football played in North Jersey with many DI prospects. I hope the coaching staff did some recruiting while there.
Ok I’m craving some Buffalo steaks… Bring them ON!!!!!!!!!
@#543…I agree with you. We got the big lead and, I believe, lost focus.
bhf2, mana was the hero and now his cousin, Kaniela, going remind me of that. Kaniela is from waikea uka near golf course and works on maui. his 2 brothers, maxwell and wadsworth, used to swim for our team. father, paka, is retired from hawaiian air.
30 – 27 Committed Road Warrior
Tho dis is closest no?
31-28
I can’t remember any holding calls against Army…lots of generous spots for them…or was the ‘yellow line’ off kilter. Oh well, a win’s a win.
#565… almost sounds like a Man versus Food commercial!
#565 Thrasher: me happy too BUT uh ok, rememba da bachi, pleez?! 🙂
Yeah, looks like CRW had the best guess.
I was on track, until we decided to stop scoring!
Most of those young men on the Army side will be deployed to either Iraq or Afghanistan within the next year or two. Hope our boys thank them while they have the chance.
#543 Michigan Warrior: Partly true because we seemed to revel in something half way thru there. Yet, without at least *some* killer instinct, we couldn’t have pulled it off, no?
Besides the win, the other good thing about this game is that it made the Warriors prove to themeselves that they could come through in a clutch and win a game… Didn’t they score twice in the last two minutes?
I say, if we’re ahead by 35+… then we can think of the next quarter. If not, keep pouring it on!!!
Michigan, me, too…
Thought UH could duplicate the first quarter
the next three…
OK gang, you all did an excellent job and deserve a standing ovation and well rounded applause!!! I hope you can see me standing and hear me clapping for all of you. Well done!!!!!!
48 offensive plays = 31 points…
MIH… True, your #576! let’s just hope we don’t have to rely on those kinds of moments! Pour it on early and often, and don’t look back!!!
I’d say patience and consistency are two things we need to work on, too.
Moniz is THE QB no discussion.
Special team still a major disappointment.
D, I agree. Interior doing its job. LBs bite too much too quick leaving door to the outside too wide open too often.
O line average today.
Don’t see how we can stay with or beat the better teams on the schedule. Too many mistakes, foundation for the three phases (O,D,SP team) not solid. O looks good, but other two still iffy.
As always, I enjoyed ‘watching’ the game with the far-flung Tsaiko community. Have a great weekend!
Our Defense got worn down .. big time.
I hope Spencer Smith recovers quickly.
We are going to need depth next week in Colorado.
Yeehaaa…good game if you like nailbiting. Way to go WARRIORS.
Wonder if there will be any aholes stumping or burning our flag today. My personal feeling is that you can keel em and i no have remorse.
#576 mih: Yep, and they need to keep on keeping-on all throughout the game and not stop just because they seem to have the lead. They cannot forget that the game is not over until it’s officially over.
All I have to say is that defense, offense, and PAT came through when needed. Good win. Now let’s go to Boulder, CO and win that game, too. GO WARRIORS!
Actually, I take responsibility for allowing Army back into the game. I jinxed us by talking about holding Army to zero first downs in the first half. That made Army wake up and score before going in at halftime. I won’t put us into a bachi situation ever, the rest of this season!!! (I hope!)
buffoman, not going comment today on your choice for qb because it is time to enjoy the win and let things get put into perspective.
#579 whitey: *TERRIFIC* group effort we did here today, vibes we sent were the 13th man!!!
ST…give us your post game comments…please. Thanx.
Whew!!!
Gotta have faith, yes?! We faltered but found the way to win!
Funny how some “fans” only chirp to reinforce da negatives. Callin’ out the QB and the coach during a game isn’t how you help the Warriors! Who you wit?!
GO WARRIORS!!!
#583… buffoman… we got burned too often on those runs that bounced to the outside. No one there to meet the ball carrier until he was 5 yards down field. Gotta tighten that up!
Time to go as had phone call that they need help in Kahului. Not medically, but close. My friends short handed (not medically or physically), so need to give them a helping hand. See you
Hank,
I think it was Umu who caused the fumble.
#590 MW: no worries, we go from here! CHEEEEEHOOOOOO, we did guud today!!!
Glad that the tv crew showed our fans a couple of times during the game. Feels good to see supporters at away games!!! Go, Warriors!!!
OH, when porget, thanks to the Tsaiko who said to use channel surfing. Can’t complain, was free, and was ok. Thank you very much. Hank, if that was you, MAHALO!!!!
UH two fumbles gave Army “short yardage” to score easily
two touchdowns. Otherwise, no worry beef curry…
If we think of it, as much as Army ran the ball, all we needed were a couple of big defensive stops, and this game wouldn’t have been as close. So, that still needs to be addressed too. We just allowed Army to continue drives over and over with third down and fourth down conversions.
Shocking to see Salas without a TD after 2 games. I know he will get many as the season progresses.
Love Moniz as “starting” qb always, but still love
to see Shane Austin come in for a couple of plays, too…
His mom would have loved it, too.
#583 bm: How do you say that in reverse, meaning, tell them what they need to *do* as opposed to *how/what* they didn’t do — e.g., “Hold on to the ball!” makes them think of holding on to it versus “stop* dropping* the ball!” can make them think only of wanting to drop the ball.
Kinda like telling someone to stop thinking about the red elephant.
Like BC and RK said before today’s game… our team believed they could’ve won last week. And with what we still gave up this week on the ground, and win, we got lucky. Our weakness is still our defense. Special teams is right behind with brain farts at the wrong times. We can still fix things and have a super season. As long as we keep progressing week to week.

From Kenny Meatoga
MO got his MOjo back…
And our WARRIORS BELIEVE!!!
d1,
Right, Umu forced the fumble and Silva recovered. Great take-away.
Still things to work on in LV.
GO WARRIORS!!!
Colorado vs California on FSWest.
can somebody please give me a website that I can use to watch the games online. Unfortunately I am away from home but would love to see the Warriors win week after week. Thanks.
Wildcats vs CalLu on CalLu.tv
GO ‘Cats!
I usually go to channelsurfing (dot) com. But it didn’t work well for me today. so I ended up using atdhe (dot) net.
Umu da man1
My Japan dictionary says umu means “tirelessly, untiringly, and perseveringly” Yeah!
moniz is the man.
1=!
Hawaii came our firing on all cylinders but I think the early game time and travel hours took their toll on the defense… UH had 32 offensive plays in the 1st half and only 16 in the second.
lack of discipline hurt us today.
too many penalties nearly cost us.
We said a few times before the season how critical these first three games were going to be. We lost the first, got the win today. Let’s get to 2-1!
GO WARRIORS!!!
We were underdogs and are supposed to lose the first three games. Almost won game one. Won game two. On to game three, before going home for one more… before our conference starts. Still looking good… just gotta keep working on stuff.
special teams had their moments good and bad.
good was hardy-tuilau proving that he is no fluke blocking kicks. he also came very close to one or two more blocks.
dunnachie had some boomers. i just wish that the coaches just let him rip the ball down the field.
kick return needs work. credit the army coaches for recognizing the no hands team on that pooch recovery.
Should have laid some bets on the Colorado game before this game started… If they have Colorado to win, I bet the spread is going to shrink now.
Next week sleep deprivation and jet lag will not be an issue…. high altitude might be, though.
Another positive that BC and RK pointed out… we only gave up 250 yards on the ground to a triple option team. We did some good. Giving up the short field didn’t exactly help our defense. We’re heading in the right direction.
Might have to depend on 50yd FGs. 🙂
Tackling needs help.
Prayers for Spencer Smith.
Coaches needs to clean up substitutions.
Offensive line got their first real test today. Results were obvious.
special teams…sorry forgot about enos’ game winner.
moniz did throw for 342 yards and three td’s. no picks. he also delivered with 24 seconds left, escaped three to four sacks. had two critical dropped passes that would have kept drives alive.
and most of all we won.
Congrats to the team!
A win is a win in the stats.
Any win on the road is a great win!
defense…they did the job when it needed to be done inspite of the fact that they were on the field for soooo long.
good things were that the dline for the most part played stout. lb’ers grew up, in particular, gdl and paipai. corey continues to make plays.
db’s did okay, although they were so focused on the run that it appeared that forgot to defend the pass.
alignment and assignment needed to be more disciplined and not play with abandom.
it’ll get there, we have better athletes in place this year.
bottom line is that we won at a tough place to get too emotional at, us army academy. on such a memorable date in time (9/11).
hats off to our boys and coaches for playing like gentlemen and with much respect shown to our “opponent”. i am sure it was hard to want to pound your opponent to the ground when they are the very ones who will watching our nation’s back in a couple of years.
(not to mention that it was nearly 5000 miles away from home.)
Thank you to everyone today for the fun in cheering on our beloved Warriors, amongst fellow Tsai-kos, whether together literally or virtually, is just the right place to be. Mahalo! 🙂
Online viewing: Today I used channelsurfing dot net and the reception and picture were pretty terrific for being free except that the volume was way too soft. I plugged in my noise canceling earphones (Bose-brand) to try boosting the volume and it worked. Even got louder by the end of the game.
next week another tough game, but tough games make a team tougher.
we’ll come out 3-0 after saturday. (against the spread)
al, ..
not to mention that they also had to get up at around 2 – 3 am Hawaii time to get ready, eh?
what impressed was that the offense was clicking again and we are at midseason form after two games.
99club–I was hearing the same thing from BG</b this morning too. You first sergeant and sergeant major types are tough…even in retirement! 🙂
Nap time…
mih…true. i hope they get to go to carnegie deli on their way out.
Next week I’m going to represent hard, Its in a beautiful place way up in the Mountains. the Warriors will thrive in those open spaces. Just hope I don’t get into a beef Rocken my 17 Jersey. Oh well even if I get a Panda Bear it will be worth watch en my favorite Team. Man maybe I can get Vila to help me out LOL!!
on another note….wie, wie, wie all the way home.
after 11 holes michelle is the leader at -8. she carded a 28 on her first 9 holes (back 9).
Glad we won, gotta say that campus looks gorgeous. Hats off to Army, they were just what I expected, they never give up and they never stop trying.
al –
I believe that heat and humidity helped Army’s cause today. Did you see in the last quarter in particular, how the UH’s D-linemen’s jerseys were soaked through with sweat? Must have been hot out there, staying on the field so long.
Are you looking at the Colorado – Cal game? UH can get that win next week, I think.
What a game! What an ending!
Whoo-hoo!
Go Warriors!!!
Hard to type with greasy fingers.
tks dpk…i’ll go there now.
Most pushups I saw on tv wouldn’t even be counted on their PT Tests!!!
Again – great win at West Point!
Michelle is doing well today – no Saturday meltdown – an eagle and six birds
I’m so spoiled…. I just gotta remind myself…
any time
you “upset” the favored HOME team,
it’s a good win!
Wie at -11 overall thru 11 today, 4 strokes up
#647… MIH… fo’ real, yeah?
So very proud of our Warriors, what an exciting win!
Does anyone know when the game will be replayed on Hawaii TV?
wiesy…-10 after 13. leads by three strokes.
must remember that this is a 54 hole tournament. tomw is final round.
uhfan808…someone mentioned oc16 at 1100 tomw. not sure, check your cable network.
I think the game will be replayed tomorrow on oc16 @ 11:00 am.
i am wondering if the dan hawkins will be around when colorado goes pac12?
although not officially official until next month, but, do you think that the pac10(12) might be having second thoughts on colorado.
i guess the denver/colorado tv market is too huge to pass up.
DPK-
The weather was in the mid 70’s today, the announcers talked about what a beautiful day it was…I think their big problem was jet lag.
Remember when we couldn’t win on the road? Distant memory now!
Sorry to make us all feel old, but I’m actually watching Joe Montana’s kid playing QB for Notre Dame right now. Unreal.
is there an echo?
Just got back from West Point and would like to offer a few comments and observations from while I was at Michie Stadium. Some of it is probably game items that have already been discussed ad nauseum in this blog (I haven’t sifted through all 600+ comments), but there were some things that weren’t televised that I think is nice to touch on:
1.) It was great to see the A-House family again! Got a chance to talk with A-House at halftime a little more in depth. We were about five rows apart in the same section. Hope to get to see them (and others) next week in Colorado.
2.) The Army band played Co-Ed (the UH fight song) during the pre-game intro. Classy on their part, and greatly appreciated.
3.) Pre-game ha’a was performed in front of (and facing) the Cadet section. Army was practicing on the south side of the field where the UH fans were all clustered together.
4.) I was pleasantly surprised at the number of fans we brought to this road game. I’d eyeball it at around 1,500 to 2,000. Maybe ST can correct me on this. In essence, we had one sideline section full of UH fans as well as 2/3 of the south end zone. Panda had 5 buses full of fans who had come up from NYC earlier in the morning; combine that with the fans staying at my hotel and our presence was strong given the travel distance.
5.) I was surprised to see that Army tried to pass early. The box score may only show 6 pass attempts combined between the 2 Army QBs, put fairly sure that a few more of them were wiped off the box score due to penalties and such.
6.) Noticed that when UH went to a 3-man front after halftime, they couldn’t get enough penetration and started giving up yardage in big chunks. They were able to better contain Army defensively when they had 4 on the line.
7.) Penalties/turnovers were about to cost us the game, stalling drives and changing momentum in the game. We gave up 1 TD because of a turnover and another TD on an offsides penalty on 4th & Goal from the 3. On the offsides, Army was kicking the FG…with the penalty called, it put them 4th & Goal from the 1 and they proceeded to punch it in.
8.) Army was 4/4 on 4th down conversions. Argh!
Anywho, a win is a win. I can’t remember the last time (if ever) UH has won a game in the Eastern time zone. Hopefully the lessons learned here can be used in the future as the season progresses.
today’s game was no surprise. at 21-7 #2 and i said simultaneously, “this is gonna be a good game.”
we knew that army was not about to quit.
sure enough…er, nuff said.
a welcomed sight was on first and goal from the four, we sent green in for the score.
Watching Cal v. Colorado now… hope our defense will play as aggressive.
Oh, I’m staying in the Hudson Valley overnight, and driving back to DC in the morning.
The Army fans and the cadets and personnel at USMA were great.
The other locals around here (away from the hotel, not affiliated with the game, et al.) seem rude and pushy, to say the least. No wonder why I haven’t ventured this far up the Northeast Corridor, despite the fact that it’s a 3 1/2 train ride away.
While we won, I’m glad to be leaving in the morning.
congrats to dick tomey on becoming a color commentator on the new wac network. i was hoping that mack would have allowed dick to become a volunteer coach. he would have made for a great mentor to dave aranda as mouse is to rolo.
dick always was a great defensive mind and motivator.
A lot of excuses being made by al and others for a not so great performance. Heat and humidity lol? C’mon, it was 70 degrees. Next week is they play below expectations we’ll be hearing about how it was the elevation or the length of time from home. Why can’t we just say that they didn’t play so well without making up all kinds of excuses.
LOL @ Colorado’s QB… scrambling with time running out in the first half, and he pushes the ball to the defensive player.
Sorry.. didn’t finish the thought… right-handed QB scrambles with 11 seconds left, then left hands the ball directly to a Cal player, who then takes it in for a TD!
Just woke up what did I miss?
99 club –
I think you’re right. As al pointed out, the guys had to get up at about 2 or 3 in the morning Hawaii time to play today.
Good Morning jojo!
UH wins a thriller, 31 – 28!
manti t’eo got taken out on robinson’s long td run for michigan. lineman engaged him and pushed him back 10 yds and pancaked him.
despite that, te’o is having a good game…
whoa…whoa. i made comments based upon my opinions and observations. but, never did i offer an excuse. besides we won and we were the underdogs at that.
i am one to never make excuses for me or anyone else.
it was someone else who cited the time differential although i did mention the amount miles we traveled.
Like a caller said after the game on 1420: “make sure you have your heart medicine with this team.” Congrats to the Warriors!!. Now if this was a team from the continent traveling the same distance to Hawaii, the write ups would be about how much of a hardship it was to travel some 5,000 miles to play UH.
ooops. wie bogeys and is now -9 at the 15th but still the current leader of the pack.
Can’t really see too many chances for excuses in today’s game. We strung out plays like we should, but didn’t close in on the ball, thus giving Army chances to turn the corner and pick up first downs. Those are what we got burned on most. They kept drives alive for Army.
The other thing was giving up the short field on those two turnovers.
Dropped passes once again are a slight issue, but can still be fixed.
What? Game switched to Utah v. UNLV. C’mon, UNLV!!!
Now it’s Miami v. Ohio State… blegh… don’t care for either team…
whoa,
I thought the Warriors played a good game despite a number of errors. I thought Army put up a good fight throughout and capitalized well our the Warrior turn overs in their own territory. What the Warriors displayed at the end with two minutes to play and being 8 points down reminds me of the 2006 season when coming from behind marked the beginning of two dozen exciting games.
oh yeah.. I mentioned the time zones… travel and time of play as possible contributing factors to some of the mental errors. But it was an “upset” and the players made the plays when they had their back against the wall.
First, Congratulations to the Warriors on a great win. What an exciting game. Nice to see the team fight to the very end. This should help their confidence level in the future.

According to the On The Air Listing in this mornings Star Advertiser, The Hawaii at Army Football Game will be re-broadcast Tomorrow (Sunday 9/12/10) at 11am HST on OC16.
It is also scheduled for 6pm on channel 247 9CBSCS. Worth watching again.

#657… CRW… the Commander of the West Point Band is an old Army friend of mine. We were stationed together at Camp Zama in Japan, back in 91-92. We remain in communication over these years. I asked him earlier this week to please post a couple of pictures of today’s game. He just put up a couple of pictures, and I told him we wish them the best this year. Great guy, and a class act. Just wish I could’ve made it to the game for a mini-reunion!
just as exciting rolling around IN bed!
#678,
should be Channel 247 CBSCS.
Almost had cardiac arrest during the 2nd half, but was glad Enos kicked the game winner. As was said, a win is a win. Grateful for PPV. Looking forward to the Colorado game.
Was there discussion about N. Dakota and S. Dakota quite possibly joining the WAC?
game winner!
Mwaahaahaaaaa!
The announcer just said Colorado is an outstanding academic institution. Didn’t they just get slammed by the NCAA a couple of months ago for poor grades, and lost some scholarships; while UH did far better on their APR’s?
Colorado has that same quick handoff to the receiver in motion, running through the backfield, that Army used today. Gotta be ready for it.
Colorado’s QB likes to tuck it and run…
Good afternoon Tsai-kos!
Good win for the Warriors on the road. Not too pretty, but a win is a win.
GO WAHINE!!!

Postgame quotes… Army and Hawaii
Great win Warriors!
Classic quote of the day from my cousin-
“Moniz… he delivers.” Get it? Hahaha
GO WARRIORS!!!
To bad about Spencer’s arm..hopefully it wont require surgery
Watched the game with Pride which is always very educational……..
Just came back from hospital. Had to check my blood pressure.
@ michigan warrior, slugger, et al – thanks for all the suggestions. stayed home and watched online. actually, hubby went online through his ps3 and we watched on tv. not bad. i made kim chee fried rice n portugese sausage and we won, so it was a great early morning! wrote down all the suggestions for next week. aloha all
Relief…a close win is a million times better than any loss. Losing this game could have really killed future home game attendance and hurt the Hawaii Bowl.
Lots of mistakes on both sides…wow.
When given time, Moniz looked good. He also had several excellent scramble runs and one good pass on a scramble that was dropped.
Warrior D clearly was loaded up to stop the inside runs and the outside runs hurt UH, especially on short yardage situations.
Aaron Brown did an excellent job at staying at home and saving a TD…but then the 12-man penalty turned a FG into a TD.
Twice in a short time the special teams had 12 men on the field. The only saving grace was that was the kick block unit, and the kick block unit blocked a kick that saved the game. Without that block, Army would have run out the clock on their last drive.
Lots of holding calls missed on both teams. I guess that makes the refs consistent. The Warrior OL did a great job in the first couple of drives and then Army made some adjustments and got consistent pressure. That #44 for Army is relentless and effective.
Glad to have UHfan808 back.
I know that Army hasn’t had a winning season in 14 years, but Coach Ellerson really has his players playing hard and he will break that streak soon.
@ Hamura’s celebrating!
Whooooohooooo
Go Wahines!!!!
Make it a perfect day.
I hope that Spencer’s broken forearm heals quickly. He is one of the strengths of the defense.
Thank God Warriors hung tough…Beat Colorado!!!
I didn’t wake up until 6 am HItime and then had to get a exceedingly time-sensitive e-mail out to several hundred people plus work on the first draft of the next edition of the Windward Ahupua`a Alliance’s e-newsletter which will go out tomorrow morning. DrDoc was tracking the game closely and updated me from time to time, but work took precedence over football.
Congratulations to both the Warriors as well as the Wahine. The latter faces St. Mary’s tonight – always tough, no matter what the sport.
A win is a win is a win.
BTW – if you haven’t done so already, look at Rich Figel’s blog two above this one. He and his wife were UH season ticketholders in several different sports for over 20 years but dropped them starting with the 2008-2009 season – if I recall correctly. In addition to being politically akamai with strong creative communications skills, he really cares about UH student athletes. We need to bring him back into the fold – especially for softball.
Back to work – still a lot of “bad stuff” to clean up. BTW – just to let you know….for three-plus weeks, our new plantanativetree website was considered spam by our now former ISP. Once I finish dealing with all the legal ramifications, I’ll post the details on either the WAA or the the PLANT website, but right now, I can barely keep control.
Wow, Manti getting some love on NBC. When the UH game was wrapping up, ND fans starting piling into the bar I was at; some were eyeing my extra chairs and room on my table, so I invited a few of them to sit with me, telling them they could have my table as soon as the UH game was pau. They saw who I was cheering for and said, “Hey thanks for Manti!” 🙂
Wildcats take one on the chin to open the season. 🙁
42-47 loss to CalLu.
…off to the stadium.
Go Saints!
Pomai,
just a reminder…..
56-14 d1shima
(no Heisman winner in sight in Boulder 🙄 )
Great time at Murphy’s this morin, hard game to watch. Don’t know what happened after the first quarter seem to be a different team. Army could have easily won this game all they had to do was run on the outside, just like usc we had no outside coverage, major problem not having any cover corners, inside game was good. The only thing I liked about this game is that they didn’t give up, sorry I like blow aways this is too hard on the nerve’s. We should have won this game 45 – 0, Army wasn’t that good we just let them gain the yards.
PowderPuff- Those ND fans know their stuff. Awesome!
Close one! I was watching the game at my house this morning. I lost a lot of hair today. The hair that I didn’t lose is now gray. I lost my voice, screaming as if the team could hear me. A win is a win, I guess. On to Colorado!!!

Early edition of the quotes is up. I won’t be able to get the rest of the quotes until the newspapers come out tomorrow, but it is nice when UH plays an early game because there is lots to read after the game. I did notice that Army’s site put up all the quotes from Army and UH while UH’s site just had UH’s quotes, which is why I always good to check both schools for quotes.

If I were 11/2 foot taller and younger, Hewitt would be a nice choice.
Montana State is leading against Washington State at the half, 13-7.
Are the Cougars THAT bad?
Old farts need to take a nap for second round tonite.
Go Wahines!!!!
Esme out!
One thing that scares me with today’s game is, we were outscored in the 3rd quarter again. Poor adjustments at halftime? I glad we won, but I don’t have a good feeling about how the game went about. I thought my 48-6 prediction had a chance after a 21-0 lead. The 2, 12 men on the field penalties, what’s up with dat? Starting to remind me of last year. I know I shouldn’t be negative, as we did pull out a win, but all coaches see the negatives and try to correct/improve on them. I hope we have enough time to work on our mistakes before our next game against Colorado. There will be a lot of traveling before Colorado. I hope it won’t be a distraction.
Sorry I missed an incredible game. I was on the redeye to Seoul. Got in a couple of hours ago. Very nice win for the Warriors. Congrats!
Uncle BG, did you record the game?
Wish we had Manti. The bugga looks huge. UH needs help at linebacker. I like how the DTs played even when they were gassed. To be on the field that long is asking too much.
Hats of to Ellerson. He found the way to beat UH. He changed things up and got to our quarterback. He may not have the best talent but he knows how to use his personnel. I remember when he was the DC at UH he did it back then too.
Too bad for Army their starting qb went down even though their 2nd qb came in and did well. If 1st string qb did not go out with an injury I think they would have scored really putting UH in a bind.
Overall a good lesson for our Warriors. You can not let the other team a chance to get back into a game. I thought that the momentum switch started with the Ryan Henry punt return. Things kind of were strange and went downhill after that.
Ackshally, I knew we wuz in good hands wen Mr. Las Vegas showed up at Genji’s.
Our resident Math prof. (Jason) calculated about 12 seconds needed to be put back on the clock after the fumble ruling. Good thing we didn’t need all that time.
Warriors thank road fans with Haka after beating Army!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_F-9eGSTjY
I was only a point off for each team. I’m shocked, since my making decisions based on hunch feelings usually doesn’t pan out the way I like them to…more like they pan out opposite to how I’d like it.
CRW – wow that was close! Congrats!
Kekoa,
unbelievable that you drove all the way from Kapolei to Genji’s before 6 am.
Committed Road Warrior…now if only Hawaii had a lottery,
you might have the numbers! Congratulations to you and
to the players, coaches and staff.
duffer….kountry kitchen for breakfast or ono family restaurant for what evers. both in kapaa. and no forget dani’s tripe stew (closed sunday) and tip top cafe’s oxtail soup.
hahahaha. and order the frozen lilikoi chiffon pie for omiyage.
finally…good game down to the wire. while many thought the warriors were going to stomp, the oddsmakers almost had it right when they made army early favorites.
i told the boss before the game i would bet the home team. she said, “really ?”. she said “how much?”
i said, “bet the house”.
she said, “no way!”
too bad i listen.
Off topic:
Please say a prayer for my classmate Bryan. I went to see him in the hospital after watching the game. He has MS and his mind works, but not much in his body does anymore. The priest came after I arrived, so I was there at the right time.
He still has a sense of humor, though. I told him the happy news was that UH just beat Army & we beat Navy last year. We just haven’t played Air Force since I’ve been home & he’s retired AF. He said, “It’s a good thing the Marines don’t have a football team, it’d be rough.”
God bless Bryan, Slugger.
Two of my nieces have M.S. and both chugged-a-lug

Good job coaches. for the haka. for us.

i can go sleep tonite knowing the world is a safer place
because the Warriors have the watch!
Just watched Texas score on a short run up the middle to get to 34 pts. with less than a minute left. Running up the score? Maybe. Need to impress the voters as a lot of them don’t watch the game and vote only by the games they see and the scores reported. 34-7 Texas up vs Wyoming with 48 seconds left.
bighilofan2. Proud of Mana Silva for recovering the fumble that led to the game winning field goal. Right place, right time. Get ’em Wahine tonight.

Just had enuff time to roll out of bed this morning, brush teeth, and rush to meet Kekoa…completely brain dead to remember to set the DVD! Bet plenny Tsaikos did, tho. Jus gotta ask. I was proud of the way both teams played.
papajoe2
proud of mana too. takes a team. everybody doing their job. coaches too.
sometimes i get hard on the coaches, because I know they can do a better leading the crew to victory.
i really am happy for the whole crew. in the end, a win is a win and they all deserve to fly to Las Vegas with happy thoughts. wishing the Georgia boy a speedy recovery too.
a big pat on the back for Coach Mack.

Prayers has been sent for brother Bryan.
…..also healing prayer for Spencer Smith and any other injured Warriors.
Bryan: May the good Lord be with you and your ohana. Take care my friend.
Cry baby Dooley is getting his butt beat by the ducks
I had a feeling that Army would make adjustments at half-time, march down the field and punch it in for a TD on their first possession in the 3rd. That’s the least that a good triple option coached team would do. So, I give credit to Army’s Offense for their first two, hard earned, touch downs.
What I didn’t expect was for Mana on our Kick Return team to botch the return and give Army the ball right back when they still had the momentum, were buzzing with adrenalin, and give them their third touch down. What made that even harder to swallow was Moniz’s fumble deep in the Warrior’s own end of the field a couple plays following Army’s 3rd TD. Defense came up big and made the stop… Special teams then came on with a 12th man and an illegal substitution… What made thing worse was Spencer Smith’s injury which further weakened our Defense while Army had the ball and momentum. Can’t really blame the defense for those turnovers and subsequent scores. But you can give them credit for shutting Army out after that and giving our offense the opportunity to pull the game out for a win.
In the end it was a team effort on the road that won the game. Even an ugly win is a good win.
#738… Actually, Marines are on the same team with Navy. They (Navy and Marine Officers) have always been schooled together, from what I’ve learned, when I was stationed at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base out at Norfolk in Virginia.
#749… Stanford swept Penn State? That is huge news!!! All right!!!
Man, UH needs better athletes on defense. Especially at LB. Army consistently beat the UH D when running to the outside. Paredes has a lot of heart but the boy is slow.
Makes you miss Adam Leonard and Solomon.
Perhaps some redshirts should be burned to add more talent. Bubba Luna? Darryl Mcbride?
Slugger… said a prayer for your friend, Bryan. Hard when we can’t do anything else.
Also said a prayer for Spencer Smith. UH… remember to document these things!!!
Bravo to the Warriors for standing and paying tribute to the Knights as the alma mater was played; and to the Knights as they watched the haka at in front of the Warrior fans.
Awesome show of respect!!!
Bravissimo!!!
Prayers and positive thoughts to Smith and Slugger’s friend Bryan.
UHfan808,
Good job staying positive when the Warriors were going through a rough patch. It’s amazing to me when the going gets rough, some of us so called fans lash out at the coaches, team, etc. After our victory, did you notice that they didn’t celebrate or comment much? Hmmmm.
The true test of a man is best measured when things are not going well. Today, I believe our Warriors passed that test. Yes UHfan808, the glass is indeed half full.
Go Wahine!

#657… CRW… In regards to the UH fight song that the Army Band played during pre-game introductions…
Mr. Morse (West Point Band Commander) said that while he appreciates that we noticed it as a class act on their part, he can’t take credit for it… It’s been a practice of the West Point Band to contact the visiting school to get the fight song for player introductions for many years. It’s just one of many things they do above and beyond what’s expected.
He also said it was tough to see Army’s defense crumble in the last minute, allowing Hawaii to roll down the field into Field Goal range. That guy has always been a class act. I wished him, the Band, and Army’s football team all the best. We always want to see our opponents as winners throughout the rest of the year.
I know this was a long road trip, but would be good if we could continue scheduling them, even if it’s in a neutral location on the mainland.
UH vs Colorado

I would like to see us schedule each of academies every year. Not only a good away game but a good home game.
Prayers goes out to Slugger’s friend Bryan.
Hi gigi,
Yes, Colorado only scored 7 against Cal today; they really got blown out. As the saying goes, they’re not as bad as the score indicates. Unfortunately for us, I anticipate they’ll rebound next week. Hopefully, we’ll be on our game and pull out the W anyway. Hence, I predict a close game. One thing that has surprised me though is that our defense is having so much difficulty.
So far, I’ve noticed that everyone has predicted a comfortable win for us. I hope so.
Pomai,
34 – 24 UH
Have a nice weekend everyone!
Beautiful, ST! Good to see the 2 teams show each other respect after the game. As you said, I hope it becomes a tradition.

The kid and his cousin are tied for second in the mixed ball tournament , shooting a 66 in fourball play. Tied with Cassy and her partner. Chasing a couple of strokes tomorrow. Should be interesting as it’s alternate shot. Anything can happen.

Rasu Begasu’s in town…
30-21, U.H. The Army – Navy game should be good to watch.
Wow very cool, duffer – keep us posted. Kyeton and Cassy are amazing. So glad ESPN 1420 is online…listening to the WVB now, but getting sleepy…about to turn into a pumpkin here on the West Coast.
c’mon Wahine!
Go Wahine!
Back from a party with my Mom…making memories…
Mahalo Plenty for your prayers for Bryan. I told him this morning about this ‘ohana of people I met through football…good people, good energy. Mahalo for your kokua.
Way to go Wahine.
That’s the way how Wahine. Too close for comfort though. Kanani alright? Seems she didn’t have the energy tonight.
I was really disappointed in seeing some of the comments made throughout the game by Steve and Whitey. I read these comments late tonight and felt the need to respond. When UH is winning…they jump on the bandwagon but as soon as they start to give up points…they jump off and talk a lot of @*#$ about the coach and team. WE DON’T NEED FANS LIKE YOU TWO…YOU’RE A BUNCH OF “DONKEYS” IN MY OPINION!!!
UH 38
COLORADO 28
Still standing by this bold pre-season prediction.
Need to remember the expectations:
1 – Expect to Win.
2 – Expect to be in a dogfight.
3 – Expect that at sometime during the game, winning will appear to be impossible.
4 – Expect to win it late in the fouth quarter.
Howzit Tsai-kos!!
Just back from the SSC. Again not a pretty win, but exciting. They can’t do this too often. Kanani struggled at times and there’s no one else to step up. Hopefully this changes as the season goes along. Wahine are just a little too young right now. Half the time, there were *4* true freshmen on the floor. When was the last time you saw that in a Shoji team?
Next up, BYWho!! Will never forget that marathon WAC championship game.
When is the football team heading to Denver? How long does it take to get acclimated to the altitude? They’re gonna need all the guys healthy or they’re gonna get gassed a lot faster.
Hawaiian
Yes, there are things posted in the heat of the game that may not be agreeable with everyone. UHFan808 made a valiant attempt to keep things on an even keel. Kudos to her. Neither you or Steve have posted long. In time, I hope you’ll observe that expressing opinions are okay, but it’s not okay to call folks names…and ST applies that universally. I’m not the owner of this blog, but I’ve been around long enough to have a vested interest in helping maintain civility while tolerating everyone’s opinion. Your post was ok until the last sentence. You made a good point…I hope you let it out and can let it go. Mahalo
Michigan Warrior,
Thanks for the insight. I’ll have to tell Bryan, as well as all of the prayers & support being sent his way. He doesn’t have much in the way of family, so our classmates & you guys are his ‘angels’. It’ll make him smile. Mahalo!
BTW, I could’ve sworn I saw M/M A-house on the terebi today towards the end of the game.
Nitey nite and sweet Warrior/Wahine dreams!
Night all!

adding to twitter this is great info.
It’s too bad that the Wahine do not have the high level of competition that they saw tonight from St. Mary’s throughout the entire season. That’s one of the reasons they took so long and worked so hard to scrape through the door into the winners’ circile.
The agenda for the next Board of Regents meeting is out. http://www.hawaii.edu/offices/bor/regular/notice/20100916.regular.pdf
Check out Item VI #9. Also, I wonder what the implications will be for student athletes if #10 & #11 are approved?
Still haven’t gotten a response to my July 11 request for lists of external public, private & foundation grants awarded to UH-Manoa faculty & researchers in all fields for the past three fiscal years: 2007-2008; 2008 – 2009; 2009-2010.
The other data I’m trying to get are income statements over the same period which would specifically identify the Athletic Department’s losses.
Another extremely busy day tomorrow. Lots of political stuff. BTW – don’t forget to vote – either absentee, walk-in, or the old-fashioned way on Election Day next Saturday. If you are still unclear as to who would be the best Governor & Lt. Governor team for the University of Hawai`i and the future of the state itself, I can only suggest that you do some reading and contemplating your navel.
WDoc – #817 – why are they trying to get rid of the training program? Isn’t there a demand for athletic trainers at the high school level and above?
Capitol-ist/WassupDoc-
#9 and 10 would be big. Hope they grandfather students already in the program. That’s a popular major for many student athletes around the country.

OK, finally saw your “error of his ways” comment earlier. 🙂 Still have never seen a transfer like that…maybe a family situation to be closer to home.

Nothing about the upcoming game against Hawaii, mostly about Dan Hawkins.
Hmmmm….coffee.
Congrats to the Warrior Boys on the win today. No mean to start anything by saying this but um…Bryant Moniz is the best quarterback on the team! Some of you on that Austin bandwagon cause bruddah threw two TD passes against USC, well nothing against Austin but c’mon now Moniz is the man! Anyway, I only caught some of the game and still don’t get why our defense at times still looking confused and out of place. I think Coach Aranda needs to keep it simple and instill a killer instinct in our boys. They need to get some desire and learn how to hit with some passion and bring the ball carrier down! Irritates the crap out of me when the boys don’t wrap up and tackle through the ball carrier. Just making contact ain’t gonna do jack crap, they need to frikkin try to hit so hard everyone in the dayum stadium feels it! What happened to being the hardest hitting team on the left coast???
Anyway glad that Scooter is killing it so far on his FG’s and extra point attempts this year…
One last thing… Alex Green is a beast and needs to see the ball in his hands at least 10 – 15 times a game. If we were runnin the triple option UH O instead of the Run & Shoot O, I bet Alex Green would be averaging over a hundred yards a game garrans. Hope Coach Rolo begins to get Alex more involved to slow the dlines down, and keep the defenses honest.

All good teams have to learn how to overcome adversity. I would call yesterday’s game with Army, as a case of Hawaii overcoming adversity.
Army ran 70 offensive plays in 33 minutes and 59 seconds, to Hawaii’s 48 plays in 22 minutes and 1 second. A difference of 22 plays and nearly 12 minutes in time of possession would be hard for any team to overcome. Hawaii found a way to get it done.
What helped the with the win yestarday was the fact that we didn’t have a negative turnover ratio. Of course we fumbled the ball away twice, which is why the game was close. But with Army’s two fumbles, that evened up the ratio to keep us in the ballgame.
We are still looking at 100% red zone percentage, which is good. But we have a 50% touchdown-red zone percentage. Our touchdown red zone percentage could be better.
okay. good night.
i think our young team is begining to grow up.
two first time starters were the leading tacklers, paredes and gdl.
pollard knows he can hang with anybody now.
the oline and dline are beginning to believe.
i could go on. but its late.
but, i liked it when they sent green in for the td rather than jump around looking for receivers scurrying in the end zone. if you gonna win, you gotta be able to play smash mouth football inside the five every game with consistency.
good mornin Tsaikos everywhere.
what a great nite’s sleep.
thanks chawan_cut
#825 – Agreed! Green looked good yesterday. Box score shows 6.7 yds a carry on 6 carries…longest was 17 yds on the shovel, I think. 10-15 carries would be about right…thought we’d see more running from Moniz as well or designed rollouts when Army was coming up the middle like they were.
WAC was 4-2 against the vegas numbers yesterday, not too shabby. Some big out of conference games next week…Cal at Nevada stands out after both teams rolled yesterday. Cal had 4 TD passes against CO yesterday, 3 of ’em were short passes in the red zone which may bode well for Hawaii. I’d love for Hawaii to be the team that sends Coach Hawkins packing!
BTW, anyone notice how quick the pro-BCS folks were to jump on the “so beating Virginia Tech isn’t so tough” bandwagon after yesterday’s big upset? And the beat goes on…
Yesterday was just about as perfect a football day as I’ve ever had. I could say it was four points shy of perfect, but that would actually be trivializing the experience (and being blindly results-oriented is not a good way to go through life). Seeing the buses full of UH fans gave me a great sense of pride in sharing my alma mater with strangers that felt like family. Got to set a new personal record for tailgating; three hours pre-game and five hours after. Got to watch my two teams play a spirited and exciting game. Was surprised, humbled, and a bit overwhelmed by the warmth and generosity of the A-House Clan (“Mahalo plenty” is a meager response). Got all chicken-skin with the class acts by both teams after the final whistle.
Who would not follow this man into hell with gasoline-soaked bebs?

Good Sunday Morning Tsaiko Nation !
The BOTTOM line is a WIN is a WIN as that is ALL that matters !
CONGRATS to the Warriors for pulling it out as adversity builds character !
Playing on the road is not easy as yes the miles, different time zones and
altitude are elements that each player has to deal with as well as the visiting
crowd HOSTILE environment !
1-1 is a lot better then 0-2 as now it is off to another difficult arena Boulder
Colorado as the elevation is SKY HIGH Rocky Mountain High as I have played there
many times when Colorado State was in the WAC and I can tell you just 20 to 30 minutes
up the court or any playing surface and you get winded as getting up there as early
possible to adjust to the climate and atmosphere is a good PLUS for the team and coaches !
Moniz is the KEY to this football season as any thought of replacing him will be doomsday
for the season as he is the MAN with ice veins in his blood as like all GREAT players he finds
ways to make you WIN !
The real problem is your defense as stopping the run is still a MAJOR problem and all football
teams on the schedule this season is going to exploit that weakness. Very happy for Enos as last year he was missing the field goals but what a difference a year makes !
Special teams came up HUGE with a BIG block and Hawaii Pilares is off to a GREAT start as
Salas is over due !
Alex Green is a THOROUGHBRED and there has to be more plays set up for him as the offense is predictable regardless of your talent as when WAC play starts it’s a whole different ball game !
INJURIES is really what UH should be concern with as losing KEY players in their postions is a telling sign already as stretching and weight lifting needs to be emphasize before pratice and afterwards with CONCENTRATION on the legs and deltoid muscles !
Squats, leg extensions, regular bench press, sit ups, inclines and declines with biceps curl will help keep the body STRONG as football is a PHYSICAL sport and these young men who play it are GLADIATORS as carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and iron are essential to feed the body to recuperate the energy, mass and water that these young men are using up daily in their battles on the field !
Off this morning for some competitive tennis and a road trip later on to the Magic Kingdom !
Have a GREAT day and IMUA WARRIORS !
howzit howzit RainbowCliff
so… who you taking to the Magic Kingdom? wish it wuz me. 😎
Pride
love your preseason predictions. don’t wanna jinx anything, but you could be onto sumtin.
one more time and this could be the greatest team coach’s been around. just wishin the guyz wouldn’t give me a heart attack.
Good Morning bighilofan2 !
WISH you were here BIG guy as definetly will make
car space for you to see Mickey, Pluto and Daisy !
Mrs. RainbowCliff accompany me to the “Greatest
Place On Earth” as we enjoy DownTown Disney
and the many eating restaurants and shops that it
has to offer !
Got a NICE shirt for you as a belated birthday gift
as all I need is your shirt size as judging from your
size in Vegas you wear an XL or has the opu grown
since we last met ?
Always a PLEASURE kind sir as NO BODY on this
blog can match your PIDGEN excitement for the
Warriors as you are “THE VERY BEST’ !

#836… USMA Bow Fan… Mahalo for the link! Always good to read stuff that validates the way the military (former and present) looks at things. Coach Ellerson will succeed because of it.
Way back when, I recall hearing a similar tone when people would discuss UH football. We went with the option to make use of smaller, quicker players who would usually not get serious looks by bigger schools. That, and a ferocious defense, made for successful UH football that was competitive at least. We knew we couldn’t overpower our opponents, so we took a different approach to exploit their weaknesses. A different kind of football, but fun nonetheless. I don’t know that I’d give up the explosiveness of our present offense, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a blending of the two on occasion. I’d definitely like to see our defense develop that attacking, swarming, killer instinct. At times, it seems that everyone is waiting for someone else to make a big play.
And, speaking of killer instinct…
That really needs to be our mentality on offense too. We can’t get complacent with an early 21 point lead. That football is shaped weird… and it will take funny bounces once in a while. We have to make up our minds that we will go all out on every down. All out, but in control. Play with tenacity and a fierceness that our opponents will eventually break from. When they raise their level, we have to match them and raise our level too. Don’t let them gain that upper hand. Like Coach Jones used to say… we (have to) believe we WILL score every time we touch the ball!
What was impressive about Pollard’s last catch was that it was looking in to sun. The same angle that caused the kickoff fumble. If that kick placement wasn’t designed to take advantage of the angle, it should be.
Congrats
#823 Pauoa Boy,
I agree, gotta get ‘nutz’ out there………
Looking over the game stats this morning and wondering why there were excluding Moniz’ scats…just a mere,(7) running plays between Green/Dimude????…..that sure put the pressure on the passing game plan; Army just had to rush the passer and sit back defending the recievers.
21-1st quarter points and just 10-points over the last three(3) quarters???? huh???, that ain’t but like 3-points per quarter for an offense which should score a lot more than that, right?
Right-on Enos for that 31yd. fg….congrats for staying focused and nailing it.
Colorado got man-handled and looking like another win for UH if they get the running game going to balance their offense…..otherwise, just too predictable, and they will struggle or lose it in Colorado.
Good Sunday morning!

GO WARRIORS!!!!!
Morning Taikos everywhere!
Sorry, Tom Mui, just saw your question. I believe both channels show the same thing. Should be the same for this weekend’s game.
Great Morning All!
A win is a win is a win….
Is the UH/Army game going to be shown anywhere today, I thought that someone said on OC16 but they don’t have it listed?
Pomai,
CBS-C is replaying it starting at 9 am (247/1247. Oceanic) It’s not an ESPN game so that’s the only option, I guess.
….the nice thing is that it’s a 3-hour segment so it won’t be “chopped up” like on ESPN Classic (due to time constraints….)

The running game needs to be implicated to keep each series fresh.
Too much inconsistency will not produce a win next weekend.
#847… mctruck… We could all feel it during the game. We put aside the run too early. We felt like we could tear up Army’s defense just with the “shoot”. Problem with leaving out the “run” is that we allowed their defense to zero in on just rushing our QB. We can’t be so one-dimensional and expect to win every game, especially against decent+ opponents. Our rush average is usually pretty good, until we stop rushing. Then our stats take a nose dive, coupled with the huge chunks we give up on sacks. We just have to mix it up more to keep the pressure off. Green and Dimude have shown that they can carry a nice average if given the chance. And, our O-Line should be ginve an opportunity to just blast through the defensive line once in a while. Let our line pound, instead of just standing straight up and being bull rushed!
In one year, didn’t McBriar only punt like 9 times? We can keep our offense on the field too if we mix it up and play some solid “D”.
A couple of times yesterday the announcers mentioned how the Warriors would remain on continent rather than returning to Hawai’i. At least some are beginning to recognize the travel problems UH has is at least the same as those encountered by teams traveling to Hawai’i. BUT, not one of them ever mentioned how much more difficult it was for Hawai’i to be away for over a week.
Way to go Warriors!
Plus, playing at altitude next week, we really need to have a more balanced time of possession to keep our defense fresh. Three and out won’t do it.
#835
USMA Bow Fan ~ I see you have received your official *Welcome* to the Tsaiko Ohana by the A-House clan. Now you know why we all love and respect our Team Mom, Mrs. A-House.
Btw…Did she arm wrassle you to sign her book? LOL!!
Re: keeping the D fresh.
Straight up Mich. Warrior. That altitude is going to affect every player. Colo. knows how to keep the offense on the field with their running backs. Advantage Colo. on this key point. They can tire out our team very quickly
#835… USMA Bow Fan… Great summary! And I have to agree… that A-house ‘ohana rocks!
The offense averaged over 9 yards per pass attempt in each of the first two games. That looks OK.
CoolEthan… it doesn’t have to be a third- or fourth-and inches for us to attempt a running play. With Moniz at the controls, we got a pretty good looking option too! And Green and Dimude have already shown us that they know how to run. We just gotta take care of our defense, or it’ll be a long day.
Killer instinct!!! Gas might be expensive, but losing will cost us even more! Floor it!!!
d1… imagine how it might look if we kept opposing defenses honest and stopped the dropsies?
Speaking of which…
Attention Special Teams… Especially Kick Off Team…
Ask for your chance as the JUGS machine so you can handle the unexpected ball that comes to you too!!! That is all.
Ask for your chance *at* the JUGS Machine…
dear Lord….
I am soo thankful our Warriors made our coaches look good yesterday.
MichiganWarrior, ur#859…..Amen brother!!!
Colorado rushed for, (75yds) on (45-carrys); passed for (166 yds.) on 18 completions, out of 34 attempts.
Looks like Colorado has a pretty good special team in kick-off returns, (8 touches for 170 yds. average=21.2 yds. return). gotta lookout for UH coverage on that one.
1st quarter play results yesterday
rush for 5 yds, brought back by illegal block penalty
incomplete pass
rush for 1 yd loss
rush for no gain
punt
incomplete pass
incomplete pass
incomplete pass
punt
11 yd pass
rush for 5 yds
sack for 9 yd loss
sack for 15 yd loss and lost ball on fumble
rush for 1 yd loss
sack for 3 yd loss
End 1st quarter. Cal 14, CU 0
I don’t know if this is the “new” tackle formula/technique nowdays, but on doing a replay of the game yesterday, and also the USC game…..I observed a bunch of times where the UH defensive player does not use his arms to grab ahold of the runner….rather, it seems like a lot of times the UH defender would just roll into the runner hoping to knock the runner off of his feet, and in most cases the runner bounces-off the hit and continues running for a big gain. What’s up wit dat??
MW,
Hawaii keeps defenses honest by by throwing to the RB (shovel is a pass, btw)
mctruck
i noticed that too. alot.
#872… That’s why we got burned on the outside so often in both games. That’s where we’ve been giving up big plays and first downs. We string it out and let them turn the corner. And even if we’re waiting at the corner, we don’t make the stop. We can’t be sloppy and expect to continue to win. We gotta swarm to the ball and wrap up. We get them into third and long situations, and keep giving up first downs. That has to stop.
it seems our defense relies on our offense to put up alot of points to keep us ahead or at least in the game. our defense been doing that for a few years now, from in the JJ days.
We tried two shovels that I recall yesterday… only one worked. Running plays are still needed to keep those linebackers home.
Shovels can’t take the place of runs or dives. Can’t imagine how predictable we’d be if we tried 7-10 shovels in a single game, every game.
shovels are used to keep the other DC distracted during the week…
We also tried a couple of inside screens on both sides yesterday. But as you watch the play develop, Army’s defense was in a full on rush. Only way to slow that down is by throwing in a run here and there.
Don’t know how fast or quick Colorado’s D-Line is, but by watching tape of yesterday’s game, they’ll know to bring the pressure to get us out of rhythm.
…same with QB running option
But, I did watch most of Cal v. Colorado yesterday. All I kept asking was, is Cal really THAT good? As long as we keep progressing, I think we have a great chance in this game.
MW,
Hope you get to come home some day and can attend a Na Koa lunch (esp. one with an Offense Coach doing the presentation)
I love when Moniz runs our option! Don’t know if we want to take chances of him getting hit so often, but we can run it on occasion to throw them off. Or, like Tebow’s first year, we can use Graves as our option guy in certain situations. No one’s seen him in public yet…
Pomai —
38-14 MR. GIGI
He says Colorado has no offense!
…so he expects their defense and/or special teams to score twice!?!?!
I would love for our family to come back home! With my mother-in-law now in a Nursing Home, it’s gonna be tough. But, I already told the wife… when we finally get home, my life will be spent supporting UH! Just so she won’t be surprised!
You guys and gals will see me so often… you’ll all start wondering, “Is that the only UH shirt and hat he has?” LOL
d1-
he said: couple of fumbles and then scores by defense or special teams — not offense.
wha worries me is the altitude. how will our boys cope?
My main concern is our defense. In most games in the past, it was our defense that set the tone of the game. In 2007, it was a “Bend but don’t break” defense. We need them fresh and able to make stops when needed. If they are gassed, we won’t feel like playing. Our whole team usually gets energy off of our defense. They have to be on top of their game.
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
Alss I gots to say about the win yesterday is: Anytime you travel to the other side of the world and get a win, it’s a great win! On to Colorado!

congrats to the vball wahine’s on winning the BOH tourny and that match against St. Mary’s was a good test for the wahine youngings.
also a big mahalo with congrats to the warrior fball team. win is a win but I hope its not going to be a cardiac year. eh warriors lets blow some games out so we 😆 old guys can relax a little bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. keep it up offense and defense make adjustment, keep putting fear into the opposing team.
#904… koakane… fo’ real! In younger years, those games were exciting. Those kinds of games now are life-threatening!!! How about we blow out some people this year???

The other data I’m trying to get are income statements over the same period which would specifically identify the Athletic Department’s losses.
Well its true. I mean was Virginia Tech really that impressive against Boise State?
I havent kept up with the BSU praise after that game, but I thought it was cute how Herbstreit and that other old guy that doesn’t do his homework to pronounce Hawaiian words correctly in the Little League World Series just fed the entire TV audience a blue spoonful of BSU crap.
Virginia Tech never deserved to be #10 and going forward Bama and Ohio State will have to trip over their own —-s to screw up the BCS National Championship picture.
BSU will not play for a national title.
Good morning everyone!
I recall the 2007 season having several cardiac games… LaTech at LaTech, SJSU at SJSU (my vote for biggest comeback of the decade), and Nevada at Reno. Hmmm…all road games.
WDoc… I read somewhere that some schools’ athletic successes lead directly to additional funding for non-athletic classes and research. Wish I was paying more attention to it at the time. Something about how BCS money is shared within a school, where a certain percentage would automatically go to athletics, maintenance/renovations/upgrades, and research.
I also recall reading how some schools would apply for as many research grants as possible each year. Again, I wish I was paying more attention to it. Perhaps it was something about how much federal funding a school can get just by asking for it, thus raising their overall perceived prestige or something.
My brain is not the sponge it once was…
Yeah, SteveM, but at the very end, when it counted the most, our defense came up with something to allow us to pull out a win. Our present defense has to believe they can do it and turn a game around. They need to fire eachother up… need to feed off of eachother. When most are doing their job, it’s demoralizing to string out a play on a third and long or fourth and long, only to find that one guy is missing and didn’t make that stop. I believe we can cure this and have a monster season when no one expects it but us.
each_other* Don’t know why I typed it like that twice. I know better than that! (Blames the arthritic keyboard again)
Congrats to Tom Mui for making #900. He will be entered in the record # of posts list. However this blog entry has been up for 32 hours already. Will count until noon today…I guess we can call it the “Noon of the next day” rule for “unattended” blog entries.
ST — hope you got in a good celebration after filing your stories!
We had to come back from being a touchdown behind. They came up with that all important fumble & recovery that gave us a chance yesterday. We can build off of that!
Tom,
Sorry. I didn’t record the Wahine game. They struggled but showed their poise in fighting back.
I’m in the process of making a DVD of the Army game for anyone wanting a copy.
Oldie — Do you have a copy of 2007 UH-SJSU mud bowl?
OLDIE – oh well, life is hard!
That match with St. Mary’s was hard on the heart – nice story in the papers this morning.
Best to Peggy.
STEVEM #913 – no prize?
One of my buddy’s saw the game yesterday and went back to NYC and will be on some NCL trip up to Canada today.
Hope the leaves are in full blast – at least in Canada as it may be too early in New England (assuming the last hurricane didn’t strip the leaves off the trees!)
Re #910 … and if that may rile up some religious fanatic and some of our boys get killed as a result, I hope that might weigh down on him but I doubt it.
Such characters have mush for brains.
SteveM,
2007 is the one year where I made a copy of all the games. I’ll find it and send you the SJS game. I think I have your address.
Caught the end of the Miami – Bills game. Nice to hear the announcers giving props to Davone sayng he was “explosive” in the game.

Yeah, I was seriously considering the Army game & cruise package. Had a final TOTAL price quote of less than $2,650 for the whole deal from Pearl… and the full-time office supply delivery guy was even going to escort it–or be in charge–according to the ads.

I’m glad that the announcers at the UH-Army game were a lot more diplomatic than that jerk Dave Davies was when UH played USC. If you saw Leahy and Leahy this past week, I applaud Jim Leahy for coming out and voicing what I wanted to say too!!! ESPN would be better off not having color guys like Dave Davies at all – he brings down the respected image of ESPN with his biased, anti-Hawaii comments!!! Is he really a jerk or does he really hate Hawaii and what we have here so much?

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
Why do people reward Obama like she’s referred to as a Who?!?!?!?!?
