Childs play

A few weeks ago, the Rainbow Warriors received a call from a player who wanted to join as a walk-on. He already had been admitted into UH. The coaches then reviewed videos and checked references. The player’s previous coach — George Rush of City College of San Francisco — provided an enthusiastic recommendation. And that is how Nick Childs became a Warrior.

Childs, a defensive lineman, is 6 feet 4 and 280 pounds. He is capable of running 40 yards in 4.9 seconds.

Here are his highlights: Nick Childs videos

Offensive lineman RJ Hollis has received his acceptance letter from UH. Hollis, a transfer from Mesa College, committed to the Warriors a couple of months ago.

* * * * *

O-lineman Sully Wiefels, who signed a scholarship agreement with UH last week, arrives in Honolulu tomorrow. He is enrolled in two on-line classes this summer session.

* * * * *

The UH coaches will be conducting a football camp tomorrow at Mililani High. The camp is for high school students.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. Here’s the schedule: Session at 10 a.m. to noon, lunch at noon to 1 p.m., session from 1 p.m to 3 p.m.

The $20 fee includes lunch and a T-shirt.

Interested participants are invited to show up at 9 a.m.

Not sure what pingbacks or trackbacks are, but I’m not allowing them. Would that control spam flow?

    Welcome back…

I thought I saw 5 spam responses on the “On Vacation” blog yesterday… they were wiped clean later in the evening, though. I thought maybe they had cracked your password.

  11. Stephen Tsai June 8, 2013 9:12 am

OK, I found out what a trackback is. Thanks to Marshall Reith for the college knowledge.

Hey all you music-lovin Hawaii Fans out there. Found a cool new free app called SoundHound. It listens to a song playing, finds it, then streams the words back to you so you can sing along……during the Tailgate!

    Share-share you know.

Saw this during the week. Looks like the Warriors are losing a coach.

    Per footballscoop.com

    Tuesday June 4, 2013

University of Washington: Sources tell us Hawaii assistant strength coach Grant Steen has accepted the assistant strength coaching position with UW football.

Hawaii-Oregon St. road game Sept. 7 group ticket(s) for Hawaii fans only; I am trying to get the best sideline seats behind our team as close as possible. Price will be around $40 each.

I need to know by July 1; as I am getting first preference as a group before they start selling individual tickets to the public in Aug.

    email me at: tomkitaguchi@yahoo.com

so far, we got about 30 in our group.

ST . . . now that UH football has Beemer as their S&C coach, does that mean Heff will not work with the football team anymore? Or is Beemer an addition.

  23. tommui June 8, 2013 10:57 am

    Stephen is back – hooray!

The idiot spammer is back – argh!

  24. SteveM June 8, 2013 11:00 am

Bon Voyage to Kapahulu, who departed Rome today on a 12-nt Holy Land cruise on the Pacific Princess!

Bon Voyage to WarriorNY, who just sailed out of Bayonne, NJ an hour ago to Bermuda on the Royal Caribbean mega ship, Explorer of the Seas! Ok, its a smaller mega ship by today’s standards–only 3 football fields long + 4 end zones, and as wide as a football field…

An early Bon Voyage to hawnstln, who will be doing his first 7-nt Alaska cruise (amazingly) out of Seattle tomorrow. Holland Oosterdam.

… wishes to Lopaka43 and mo808 later, since they don’t sail for a few weeks yet… tsigh

  27. Hilo-Warrior June 8, 2013 11:15 am

I like the new Defensive Tackle. Hopefully he can do that against D1 lineman. I was told before that usually 2 d2 lineman equal one D1 lineman. If its true he is going to be pretty good.

  28. Hilo-Warrior June 8, 2013 11:16 am

Are there any videos of the two O-lineman? Or size and speed stats on them?

  29. Haleakala June 8, 2013 11:30 am

    Welcome to the new Warriors!

    Also welcome back Stephen!

I hope you had a relaxing vacation. Nah, there aren’t relaxing vacations in Vegas.

Well, I hope you had a profitable vacation. Nah, there aren’t any profitable vacations in Vegas.

Well, I hope you had fun!!

  30. Stephen Tsai June 8, 2013 11:38 am

They’re going to hire another full-time s/c coordinator to replace Grant Steen.

  31. 3-Prong June 8, 2013 12:09 pm

Hey Spammer,………Come-On-Man! Time to move on with your life. Or try a little humble pie with an apology. Hawaii people forgive and forget.

  32. BG June 8, 2013 12:55 pm

Welcome back ST! The clubhouse rug is worn out from people pacing the floor.

Welcome Nick Childs! Can’t help someone who’s committed enough to travel to Hawaii on his own dime, enroll, and then ask for a walk-on opportunity. We’re pulling for you!

  33. Gambit808 June 8, 2013 1:01 pm

Gotta say Tom is legit for tix. Hope I make it out there Tom, but wifey is expecting and I don’t want to keep visiting in laws and have them keep winning. Each time at Corvallis we’ve been smoked.

    Welcome back ST!!!

    BEAT USC!!!

  35. A-House June 8, 2013 1:31 pm

    welcome home good neighbor!

I did not expect recruiting news to be so prolific this close to fall practice – don’t recall this ever happening – well, always the first time syndrome.

I keep moving my chair around and keep hearing this “cracking” noise – then I feel something hitting my right leg near the ankle – then I look down and see all these black plastic pieces from my chair – ok, another expense for the house!

Hoping the 3 baseball commits that were drafted today decide to go to school. I bet Trap was on the phone with them the minute he heard they were drafted, if not before.
