Bye-ing time

It appeared that coaches, players and nearly everyone else (except a columnist whose initials are “F”L and is currently out of the country) wanted the Rainbow Warriors to accept the $600,000 offer to play Colorado this weekend in Boulder.

Alas, since the Rainbow Warriors are home — alone — here’s what to expect this bye week:

• The coaches did some recruiting in Las Vegas this past weekend, and will be doing more of the same on the mainland this weekend. The primary targets are cornerbacks and defensive ends.

• Progress checks continue on grayshirts Terrance Polk, Ualesi “Wes” Sale and Tigi Hill. Rashaan Falemalu and Jamie Tago are set to join in January. John Ursua, who is serving a church mission, is scheduled to return in the spring.

• The Warriors are off today. They will have conditioning drills and meetings tomorrow. Regular practices are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. There will be an extended scrimmage for redshirts and developing players on Friday. There are no practices scheduled for the weekend.

• Plans are in the works to give more playing time to defensive lineman Kennedy Tulimasealii. Look for him to get extended work in practices Wednesday and Thursday.

Yes, yes, I know nobody at UH ever listens to me.

I suggested the swap meet be held at UH on game days. Nothing.

I suggested UH sign a deal with MTV or HBO to counter the glut of football programming on ESPN and other sports channels. Cameras could follow the players during the week, turning them into reality stars, leading to game day. It would be like “Hard Knocks” for a season. Again, nothing.

I thought holding a concert … oh, wait, never mind.

Anyway, this is a ’round-about way of saying I think former UH center Lene Amosa and his gospel group should be invited to sing the national anthem at a UH football game this year. Just don’t call it a concert.

Wonder what Columbus Day is like on the Ohio State campus?

  7. Tanman October 14, 2013 8:08 am

By not playing Colorado, it should translate to no additional injury. Besides, may be getting some players back from injury. BTW, how’s Wily doing? What about Allan Sampson? May be this way, we can get wins over Colorado State and Air Force… How about giving Coach Chow 4 years – this is UNLV’s head coach 4th year and only now, they are winning.

  8. Stephen Tsai October 14, 2013 8:09 am

According to US News & World Report, Oklahoma State and Weber State have 100 percent acceptance rates.

  9. Stephen Tsai October 14, 2013 8:10 am

    Tanman:
In theory, there should be no additional injuries. But, yep, Wily suffered a concussion in the last Scout Bowl and hasn’t played since.

    Good morning Tsaikos!!!

Heartbreaking on Saturday,,,,but we move on. Continued healing for our (Rainbow)Warriors!!!

  11. Stephen Tsai October 14, 2013 8:11 am

You know that old saying about there’s plenty of time to rest when you’re dead?
There are nine months of no UH football games. Play as many games in the fall, because you’ll regret it in the winter, spring, summer …

  12. Stephen Tsai October 14, 2013 8:13 am

As the beat reporter, I prefer games that are close and short. UH really needs to work on the latter. 3 hours, 50 minutes is way too long for someone with ADD.

  13. UHfan808 October 14, 2013 8:16 am

    Good morning, Tsai-kos and Lurk-ers! 😀

Watch game-time videos, lift weights, run, stretch, jump, do strengthening workouts, strategize, figure out necessary adjustments to the adjustments, practice adjustments, mentally practice adjustments, eat, study, sleep, go to class, wash clothes, shop for fuud, fill gas in da moped and car, inflate tires, call mom n dad and aunty n unko, drink lotsa wata, and… ITT!

  14. Stephen Tsai October 14, 2013 8:19 am

Since beating metaphorical dead horses is the theme here, if Charleston Southern was there (for Colorado’s taking), why didn’t UH add the Buccaneers to this year’s schedule? CSU seems like that desperate sort of team that stares at the phone: “Ring! Please, ring!”
It would have been better to play Charleston Southern (or any other FBC) school this week.
Having a Hawaii exemption and not using it is like an NBA team not spending its timeouts during a Game 7.

  15. Stephen Tsai October 14, 2013 8:23 am

    And my final rant:
There is some value to telling a recruit: “If you sign with us, you’ll be playing games in packed stadiums in the Horseshoe, Big House and Rose Bowl.”
A better strategy would be to make Aloha Stadium a crazed, fun-filled environment. Of course, that’s going to take winning and a lot of other stuff.
But, c’mon, the goal should be to play before your own packed house instead of an another team’s.

  21. Old Diver October 14, 2013 8:53 am

I remember early on JD talking about moving the swap meet to UH on game day. Was it you who came up with the idea? Great out of the box thinking.

  22. Stephen Tsai October 14, 2013 8:55 am

    OD:
I’m saying there were only a couple of people who advocated not playing the game.
I’ve always maintained they should play the game. And I’ll keep saying that this entire week while we sit here twiddling our thumbs leading to Friday’s scrimmage.

  23. Stephen Tsai October 14, 2013 8:59 am

    Old Diver:
My feeling is UH should take the best money-making ideas, such as the swap meet, and steal them.
And UH should never, ever have another telethon. It just sounds desperate.

    do it.

  29. Stephen Tsai October 14, 2013 9:14 am

    Re: Swap meet
UH probably could do a hostile takeover and have the swap meet every weekend on campus. There’s better parking and easier access. Unlike the stadium, freeway ramps lead in and out of the Lower Campus.

  30. Stephen Tsai October 14, 2013 9:16 am

    PolyMom:
School gets paid, not the players.
    It would help recruiting.
There’s such a glut of football on the other channels, UH could take advantage of being the only football team featured on a non-sports channel.

  31. Stephen Tsai October 14, 2013 9:17 am

By the way, I’m sleep-deprived and grouchy, so pardon my rants.

  32. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 14, 2013 9:27 am

The majority wanted to play the game against CU. I wouldn’t expect any other answer from the players.

That being said, add me to the short list of those who thought it wouldn’t be the best of ideas unless the $1M mark was met. I also like that this week gives us time to heal and rest before our next home game.

  33. Old School Dave October 14, 2013 9:28 am

Forget about my suggestion of Jason Gesser as a possible addition to the UH staff. I believe that Gesser’s position coach at WAZZU was ………. Aaron Price.

  34. Old School Dave October 14, 2013 9:37 am

UH needs someone like the Eccles family that have been generous donors to Utah’s athletic program. UH used to regularly beat Utah back in the days of the old WAC.

  35. cocobean October 14, 2013 9:39 am

    Want an extra game.

    1. Win out and play in the Sheraton HI.

    2. If we lose another game and lose bowl eligibility invite a BCS school (that’s not bowl eligible) to play us in the Pearl Harbor Memorial game on 12/7. Keep an eye on Cal and Purdue’s records.

  36. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 14, 2013 9:44 am

  38. Independent Thinker October 14, 2013 9:46 am

What emerged from the last game, at least for me, was a clear leader on the team: Yap.

Yap was a monster on the field, and his play inspired the rest of the team to fight till the end.

No comment about the coaching. Leave it there. Except this: thought that sending in IW toward the end made no sense. You go that far with SS, and the game is still within reach, then you leave in SS. Period.

If the next game produces a victory, it will be a victory willed into being by the drive of the player like Yap.

    Good game, Warriors!

  39. boolakanaka October 14, 2013 9:46 am

Aloha kakou! First time I saw the warriors in person this year, and the item that was most glaring, and it was like glaring in terms of driving around Ka’ena, in the middle of the day, in the summer, and having the sun hit your window, was the game management. Many things were positive, but the penalty situation is utterly atrocious, and I can only say that has a direct nexus to the coach. The numerous and consecutive off-sides, and perhaps the most crucial penalty, a delay of a game on first down on your opponents eight yard line. That is a pre-called play, coming off of a long run–it should never happen.

These penalties are at once, little nicks, and huge dents in the overall success of the game, but make no mistake they affect the game’s outcome. And at the end of the day, it is the province and responsibility of the HC to mitigate the penalty portion–period.

  40. Independent Thinker October 14, 2013 9:56 am

Boola, when you retire from being a prof at boola boola u, maybe you can coach our team?

What you, tink? Former play, see the forest and the trees, smart buggah, terminal degree, cares deeply about the program, as evidenced by his postings.

    #Boolaforuhcoach!

  41. Warrior Dave October 14, 2013 9:57 am

IMHO, the coaches should be recruiting O-linemen. We need some studs in the line next year.

  42. boolakanaka October 14, 2013 10:03 am

Oh, on unrelated warrior note, I had breakfast with some folks in the booster community, one use to head the UH boosters way back in the day, and the other, someone previously a senior USC booster. Well, the word is that while the his record fueled much of the angst around Lane Kiffin, the event that made them actually pull the trigger of the ugly firing, was that they had documented proof he was having an affair with a USC student and thus, that is why it was so unceremonious and abrupt.

  43. Kevin October 14, 2013 10:06 am

If the big network can get behind Johnny “Football” by having the dumba$$ Johnny Cam then it cant be an NCAA issue right???

Oh wait, the NCAA has their ankles behind their heads when it comes to the networks…

    Nevermind, carry on.

  44. boolakanaka October 14, 2013 10:08 am

41..You funny. The thing thing about being a commenter in hindsight, is that it avails us, almost all the time, the ability of being remarkably clairvoyant. No, I’ll leave the coaching and administration to the professionals, and remain seated in my lofted chair in the peanut gallery.

Now, if they want to consult once a week, and give me a small stipend, plus all I can eat at Side-street Cafe, we can work something out…..my pedestrian comments are offered at little or no costs.

  46. cocobean October 14, 2013 10:08 am

Boola good observations. Been saying the same thing but not laying out any blame. What’s disturbing is this (penalties and other mental errors) has been an ongoing problem that has not been fixed.

It’s frustrating to see repeated instances where it appears the offense is playing defense on itself and the defense is aiding and abetting the opposing offense.

BTW. I think one of the posters here has a huge man crush on you.

  47. Kevin October 14, 2013 10:11 am

Hmmmm… Cardinal Rule: YOU DO NOT LOSE ON HOMECOMING.

If we do, time for a change.

  48. boolakanaka October 14, 2013 10:17 am

47..I try not to comment on the actual football side, (I do have sharp words for administrators and related folks), but penalties, along with effort, is one of the few things you can control, and by large, the imprimatur of the HC; thus it has to put at his feet.

Well, if someone does has a man crush, be advised I like small batch bourbon and puakenikeni leis…..

  49. Independent Thinker October 14, 2013 10:21 am

@47. It’s called respect. It’s something accorded, without preconditions, to fellow members of the bretheren. You would not understand this and what this is as you are not a member of the bretheren.

In other instances, it is accorded all graduates of St. Louis, Iolani, and my high school, until it is no longer warranted by behavior.

It is something, try as you may, which will never be extended to you, cocobean.

Now this is just pure speculation, but either Pat is old school chivalrous, or that could have been someone’s daughter he knew, but the bottom line my friend says is he was crazy huhu.

Boolakanaka and your new stalker/man crush Independent Thinker

There are some penalties that coaches can control like procedural type (12 men on the field, 5 men in the back field, false starts). And there are other penalties that the players are to blame because it’s common knowledge to not to do certain things, like (face mask, targeting, chop block, holding, off sides, holding, illegal block to the back, pass interference, late hits, unsportsmanlike conduct to mention a few. Even the people who didn’t play football but watch know about those type of penalties and the coaches teach and tell the players to not to commit those type of player mental error penalties but their human and make mistakes.

It’s kind of like when you know the bills are due on a certain date of the month but sometimes life happens and you forget to pay the bills on time. I mean it’s common knowledge that if you don’t pay your bills and taxes on time, you will get a penalty or fine or late fee. So, do the companies and the IRS blame your parents (Your life Coaches) for not staying on you and paying your bills on time or is it your fault for mentally messing up and you have to pay the higher penalty for being late paying bills? No.

It easy to be negative about the loss to UNLV because the Kaumeyers defense gave 500+ yards 3 games in a row and Trayvon Henderson face mask penalty with 30 seconds left was a huge mental error. But the game management and offensive play calling was on point for a change, the offense is putting up a lot of points and the team is competitive with hearts of lions that will never give up. Yap Beau is not the team leader, right now Sean Schroeder is the team leader, the never give up attitude and toughness Schroeder has been displaying is rubbing off on the team the past 3 games.

  65. gobows October 14, 2013 11:04 am

If you find yourself getting angry and trying to pick fights with people for no reason, and you know who you are, then you should get away from your computer and do something productive.

I’m done for today. Just stopped by to give props to the team for playing like warriors. Props also to Yap. Outstanding play. Many others too with outstanding play including Malepeai and Garcia, but Yap’s play stood out above the rest.

  68. boolakanaka October 14, 2013 11:12 am

65–I don’t comment on the kids…they are just that, kids, and well, its a game. But, I was also talking with several ex-teammates (some are also coaches), and not to bolster my vantage, but they all mentioned the same feature. And the main penalties I am speaking about were off-sides and delay of game. Those again, are something that are more related to the discipline of the game, which is an off-shoot of the coaching. Plenty of positives to speak about. 10 penalties is not acceptable, and I think our own coaching staff would have the same remarks.

  69. gobows October 14, 2013 11:17 am

maybe the coaches should go stand and hold the playbooks above their heads for 30 minutes.

That is interesting that NFL teams are interested in Kiffen, I guess they want a refresher on how to under-utilize skill position talent by the over-use of WR bubble screens. LOL

For many folks, and this is not some form of moral superiority or lecture, (god knows I got my share of warts and vices) fooling around even with a beautiful partner at home, is not about the other person, but rather an extension of ego and hubris. That is to say, I can do this, as I am above rules that apply for most people…

  75. Darren October 14, 2013 11:24 am

Last week, Beau Yap calls himself and his teammates out for their effort and execution in the SJSU game. On Saturday, Yap played his tail off, like his hair was on fire, like each snap would be his last snap, etc., etc. Leader or not, Yap gave it his all to carry the defense with his play and attitude.

  76. boolakanaka October 14, 2013 11:26 am

75…The one link was from something 3 years ago…the current situation is one the deals with a USC student. And to my regret, I tried and tried, but never developed the taste for single malt scotch….I guess that Halawa in me, prevents me from getting too refined.

#31, ST– would have loved to do a reality show about football in Hawaii. Problems when pitched. Hawaii as team is not that interesting for the mainland audiences. Believe me I had the biggest exec at Endermol laugh in my face and almost fall of his chair. It hurt. Then I pitched another show similar different players. So we went through the numbers. Here’s the problem.

3 camera men per day at 1650 each per day. 4950.00 plus benefits
2 sound men per day with equipment 2500.00 per day. 5,000.00 plus benefits
1 Line Producer per day 1500.00 per day plus benefits.
1 Story Editor they transcribe as you are shooting 1500.00 per day plus benefits.
4 PAs at 500.00 per day is 2000.00 per day plus benefits.

You have to shoot minimum 90 days for enough material. Then you edit. That’s the BIG money. Nuff sad without a contract in place. To much to lose.

#43– I live and hear everything in South Bay. It was not Lane Kiffen who was with the coed at USC. It was Pete Carroll. He moved out of his 2nd Street house in Hermosa with his wife Glenna and bought a different house on 27th Street and the Strand. Just a few blocks from me. Charlie Weiss even brought it up in interviews. For Glenna Carroll who is a nice woman I won’t post the tramps name.

Lane Kiffen was partying with the coeds at Tennessee as they are ” formal” hostesses. They “entertain” and keep company of their guests. What that means you read between the lines. LOL! Lots of schools have coeds as Hostesses.

#46 Liz Kauai, if LAME KIFFEN went to Hawaii, I would stop being a supporter. Liar, cheater, and an ARROGANT PIG. You want a jersey swapper, ball deflater coach? I rather have intergrity and morals then to have that PIG as Coach. Hawaii can’t afford a high end coach. No kala. You get what you get. When Hawaii has 25M for their Coaching staff…let me know. Kevin Sumlin loves Poly Boys!

Money people. Want a good program it takes BIG KAlLA!!!!! Dig deep people.

  84. PolyMom October 14, 2013 12:24 pm

    Goggle Pete Carroll’s girlfriend.

  85. wasabi October 14, 2013 12:49 pm

    71-hahaha! Seriously though!

  86. WarriorNY October 14, 2013 12:55 pm

Do Reality TV cameramen really get 1650 a day? And the Sound guys get 2500? Either I was on the wrong side of the entertainment industry, or there is something slightly wrong with your numbers…

  87. boolakanaka October 14, 2013 1:11 pm

Speaking of Charlie Wiess, a man born to be an assistant. When he brought up that issue of Pete Carroll, whether it was true or not, that was entirely inappropriate. He one was the person with more resources at his disposal than Pete, but had a tenure that mildly placed, was entirely sad and forgettable. I do know this, you bring up my personal business, not at all related to football, on national TV, like Charlie did, next time someone sees you on TV, garings, you would be missing some front teeth and a molar.

  88. Truman October 14, 2013 1:18 pm

ST- are you saying IT is a lonely guy? lol. I guess you should his many personalities since you are aware of the poster’s id (or have a good idea) as they come in.

  89. A-House October 14, 2013 1:22 pm

    Darren”

give me date, time, and place to treat you to lunch.

  90. A-House October 14, 2013 1:22 pm

now, unsure about al – he never responded to my last post about values

  91. Independent Thinker October 14, 2013 1:27 pm

@80. At ST. Like most people here, my family includes professionals, trades people, criminals, and three former UH football players. Other family members have played for BYU, Fresno, Cal, and Washington. Two members of my family played in the NFL. One for Denver and one for Dallas. The NFL guys are alive and well. At family gatherings, on game days, despite their NFL status, they are just regular, ordinary guys.

Most of the above gather at my house for UH games. One viewing room has a regular, large, flat-screen tv. This room has sound. Not muted on purpose. It is occupied mostly by female family members. AC.

The other room has a projector, with picture shot on the wall. No sound. On purpose. AC. It is occupied mostly by the male members of my family. We all agree we prefer to watch and discuss the game based on our observations of the game rather than to listen to a bunch of clowns, with their own biases and prejudices, call the game, especially when they butcher the Polynesian names.

    There you have it.

  92. A-House October 14, 2013 1:29 pm

blog was down yesterday so I now post what I wanted to say:

kudos to the UNLV Oline in the last 1 min 44 seconds for keeping UH defenders away from their QB and UH was rushing 5 or 6 or 7 players at any time.

and I disagree with the “review” that the receiver was “bobbling” the ball as he went out of bounds – his back hit the ground in the field of play, he had possession, and came lose as he rolled over out of bounds

heck of a 4th qtr, but alas UH is still 0 – 6.

the sky is getting a lot darker, the dark clouds reach up to the sky in very dark columns, thunder is getting louder and all this from the Honolulu side – heard it’s pouring “cats & dogs” in the Waipahu, Kapolei, Crestview, Aiea, and Mililani areas.

  93. WarriorNY October 14, 2013 1:31 pm

    Hey IT,
Can I get your name to verify? Oh wait, I don’t want to start that again… I hope everyone is well tonight…

  94. Independent Thinker October 14, 2013 1:34 pm

@90. Truman. If can, can. No can; no can.

Stick to playing in the gutter, truman. It fits and suits you well.

  95. Former UH Athlete October 14, 2013 1:36 pm

    24… ST,

what about concerts for fund raisers?

    just an idea…………………………………………

  96. UH Alumni October 14, 2013 1:37 pm

For all UH athletics supporters, we can agree to disagree, but the bottom line is we must give our 100% effort. Whether we like it or not, it is the only game in town. As Poly Mom mentioned, we must dig very deep if we really want a good program. Just show them the money!!!

  97. NotNasti October 14, 2013 1:39 pm

    93. IT: With Kekaula doing the play-by-play, I don’t blame you for muting the sound. If you don’t like listening to the play-by-play announcer, come and watch the games in-person. The Fresno game was electric, and I can imagine, the Vegas game too. Too bad. This year will go down as one of those “coulda, shoulda, woulda” seasons. Luckily, every team starts off 0-0 every year.

  98. PolyMom October 14, 2013 1:49 pm

#88 yes that’s what they make with their own gear.

  99. boolakanaka October 14, 2013 2:17 pm

Oh, the other thing that jumped out to me, was that our flat on the far side of the field was consistently exploited. It was usually off of a pivot to the short-side and a screen or bubble pass–did anyone notice that occurring. Maybe, those of you with a critical eye to such nuances, e.g. FUHA, can clarify for the rest of us–as I usually attribute this to breakdowns on a zone rotation in the defensive backfield. FUHA or anyone else…?

  100. primo123 October 14, 2013 2:24 pm

RK should go back to doing color only. IMO

  101. Old School Dave October 14, 2013 2:30 pm

RK is trying his best, but I can’t understand him when he gets excited during a “big play.” My relatives on the mainland say that people from there cannot understand what RK is saying. His delivery needs some work. He was speaking over Dick Tomey’s analysis (who I enjoy listening to) a little too often. JMHO.

  102. clyde October 14, 2013 2:32 pm

A-House. I respectfully disagree on The Catch. That was a hell of an effort by Kamehameha grad Mataele and, at first, I thought it was legit. But one of the replays showed the ball on his chest, between his hands (no completion of the possession), as his back hit the ground. I’m guessing that’s what caused officials to overturn the call.

I agree with others that a huge loss was coming away with no points following Bubba’s kickoff return, and I think the blame goes to the coaching staff for allowing the clock to run out on the first play from scrimmage. Why in the world, as the clock hit :05 and the team was not yet set, wouldn’t someone be yelling for a timeout? They had all three left with less than 9 minutes before the half. Wouldn’t you think it was critical to use one at that time? What a wasted opportunity.

  103. primo123 October 14, 2013 3:11 pm

    Manti Teo playing tonite

  104. Marleysdad October 14, 2013 3:16 pm

    manti who?

  105. WarriorNY October 14, 2013 3:32 pm

I really like Kekaula. Just always reminds me of home. I think a team of he and kanoa leahey would have been perfect. I hope oc sports can figure a way to get them both on their broadcasts…

  106. Da Punchbowl Kid October 14, 2013 3:50 pm

Been reading this blog since it was knee high to a grasshopper. Today’s version thus far, needs to printed, framed and hung in a place of prominence and reverence for all of posterity.

Thank you, posters, one and all, for the some of the most witty, insightful and truly hilarious comments and repartee I have ever read on the Warrior Beat.

Mr. Tsai, this may be your Warrior Beat opus. We even have the best blog poster nic ever – Maile Tsai-Russ. And to think, it happened on a bye week.

Polymom – your reference to #46 post on your #85 is Coach take- down elevated to an art form. Loved it! There’s your hit TV show – with proceeds to benefit UH Football – you and some other ladies-in-the know do a weekly show on ESPN and lay the lumber on certain aspects of NCAA football culture. Sort of a “Fashion Police” for the No Clue At All folks and their overpaid minions. Boffo, I tell you.

    Independent Thinker –
I mean this from the bottom of my heart. Can I come over to your house and watch a game with you guys some time? No hidden agenda here, I promise. That just sounds like a great way to enjoy a game. I may even know who you are…

    Boola –
    Keep rockin’. 😉

    Warrior NY –
Your number 88… yes, PolyMom’s numbers are accurate, and sadly, you and I both are on the wrong side of the entertainment business. My Producer asks and gets $2100 a day for doing local camera stuff. I think he’s worth it, but he signs the checks as producer for our stuff, so of course I’m going to say that. 😆

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  107. primo123 October 14, 2013 4:02 pm

    #107

kanoa doing play by play and RK adding color would be nice.

  108. PolyMom October 14, 2013 4:04 pm

Boolakanaka– yah when Charlie Weiss brought it up…it was tacky. But Pete was just so open about it. He was all over with the other woman. Like I said, don’t want to mention that tramps name.

Cooking for Don Weir and the hubby. They are enjoying the Chargers game.

  109. The Truth October 14, 2013 4:18 pm

Nobody believes Independent Thinker has parties at his house. Nobody believes tight ass pays for pay per view. He’s a fraud. The Lee brothers know. Vicki Higgins know.

  110. cocobean October 14, 2013 4:42 pm

boola. I like your line about Weiss being born to an assistant.

But damn, for a while I have been thinking Chow and Weiss at KU are alike in the sense they made their bones on offense but can’t get it done now. Hope your observation of Wiess doesn’t prove to be precient about Chow.

  111. cocobean October 14, 2013 4:51 pm

IT. Peace brah. I cast the first stone but was mainly to poke some fun at boola not at you.

  112. boolakanaka October 14, 2013 4:51 pm

112..I share the same hope. I heard , well rather overhead, ok, I was straight eavesdropping, but I heard a certain ex HC who was in Vegas, say, something to the effect, that its’ a big leap from assistant to HC, and some never make the transition. And you use the word prescient one more time, and boola U., will be recruiting you.

  113. boolakanaka October 14, 2013 4:54 pm

113..olive leaf is always nice, and well mature. That said, what, does that mean no one is going to buy me fancy bourbon and good smelling leis??? I feel rejected….

  114. cocobean October 14, 2013 5:06 pm

    prescient.

  115. Darren October 14, 2013 5:20 pm

A-House, our wager was straight up, so it is I that owes you a lunch. Say 11:30 am this Wednesday or Thursday works fine for me. You can choose the place…anywhere in Fort Street Mall or Union Mall that we can sit and talk some football works for me.

  116. Da Punchbowl Kid October 14, 2013 5:24 pm

boola you rock. paybacks a bitch – see you next time you’re in town! 😉

  117. boolakanaka October 14, 2013 5:27 pm

118–I’ll be up on Kapalama, Pukalani and Keaau, furthering the work of the Princess in two weeks for boola u. Hope to catchup.

  118. The Truth October 14, 2013 6:40 pm

How fun. Independent Thinker and his imaginary friends attending imaginary party. Let us independently examine this nonsense. How would he know if the commentators are bad if the sound is off. Two pay per view devices. How rich for someone who claims to not support the team. He is a lonely fraud. Independent equals lonely.

  121. Balko October 14, 2013 7:00 pm

Oh no, not the swap meet and UH football together…yikes, that would look so tacky and pathetic to recruits and mainland TV viewers. If that is the most viable option to save UH football…

By the way, is there no follow-up on the Norm Chow being pranked with a possible consultant gig with the NY Giants as covered on Deadspin? Did he address this with the team, or are they left wondering what’s up with his level of commitment to the team?

  122. Konoman1 October 14, 2013 7:20 pm

It’s one thing to be critical of our record but to actually say that you hope the team doesn’t win a game makes that person an Moron.

  123. Konoman1 October 14, 2013 7:21 pm

Sorry a moron … Cuz the other words are inappropriate!

  124. kapakahi October 14, 2013 7:26 pm

    Hmmm……

    Still a greyshirt candidate?

  125. A-House October 14, 2013 7:47 pm

  127. Independent Thinker October 14, 2013 7:54 pm

Does anybody even believe a word I say? Well you they should, because as evidenced by my posts, I am better than all of you because of the brethren-hood of private school graduates that watch football in complete silence, then retire to the smoking room, dawn our smoking jackets, and discuss our analyses of football games (watched in silence) while smoking cigars and sipping brandy.

cocobean, you wouldn’t understand this because you are not a lawyer, a private school graduate, or a sophisticated gentleman. I don’t associate with riff raff.

  128. Doh Bell October 14, 2013 7:55 pm

    Ben Jay is a joke.

  129. Independent Thinker October 14, 2013 7:57 pm

boola! You seem like an educated and worldly chap with just enough street cred for me to break out my faux-pidgin accent. How’s about you and me retire to the smoking room so we can speak in big words and laugh at the working class riff raff that would deign to speak to us as equals. Let us watch UH football in silence and cheer on Jeremy Higgins because he too is part of our brethrenhood!

  130. Darren October 14, 2013 8:02 pm

A-House, ok…see you then. I’ll bring the comp tickets too.

  131. hapahaoleboy October 14, 2013 8:40 pm

    @129 Independent “Thinker”

Even riff raff know that you don’t “dawn” a smoking jacket; you “don” it. Sorry, but spell check does not correct for homophones/heterographs.

  134. Independent Stinker October 14, 2013 8:57 pm

    Greetings Chaps….
Yes I don’t associate with riff raff. Which is why I come here to this blog.
Although it seems many of you do not get it. You see I am better then all of you and I need to come to a blog to polish my cyber-ego. In the real world I am a lawyer. I practice law for adults who as children were bullied.

I myself was bullied and since none of you can get to me, ha, I elect therefore now and forever to bully each and all of you. I don’t really practice law, that’s just part of my m.o. to flex my self anointed superiority.

I don’t really watch the tele muted. I mean have you tried to do that before…tsk, ha, how silly for to believe. But that’s what makes me a cut above all of you. My only wish is that all my football family were real and I long to be with the “it” crowd. But alas, i thank all of you for replying to my baited remarks. Because that’s what a troll does…we troll. If none of you took my bait, I would have no choice but to go back to my corner and pout just as I would when mother would scold me.

“Mommy, these people don’t like me, they are teasing me again”
“thinker, get off that computer and quit being a child. Why do you tell people we have a tele with muted sound, you already know the speakers are broken when you tried to tackle your big blow-up bozo the clown doll after watching john gruden.”

  135. AlaWai October 14, 2013 9:15 pm

Is there a Head Coach University? Why not? Its never too late to teach an old dog new tricks. Time management. When to and not to substitute. Time outs, when to call them. Locker room management. Half time adjustments. Call the Tuna or Jimmy Johnson. For Pete’s sake (Can’t call him) HELP!

  136. Independent Stinker October 14, 2013 9:38 pm

I been thinking also you low-life blog riff raffers
why do we think 18-22 year old kids owe us something, owe us wins in order for us to show up?
i was in my study looking back at my elementary classmates, the ones that spiritedly bullied me and made me the adult i am today. I was pondering the notion that perhaps you citizens of planet college football have it backwards.

what thou means is that we expect 18-22 or so year-olds to give us wins and we will support them. Although as I consulted Saint Christopher in my crystal ball next to my norm chow bobble-head doll a vision and a voice came to me.

It said we the fans should be the ones to support a team through thick and thin and wins will come. if not wins, at least good feelings, support, and confidence for young men to know that we got their backs. this is a chicken or the egg scenario. if i may, and i will because my mind is to just to advanced for riff raff. dont be a chicken to support a team that is still laying eggs in the win column. and don’t be a rotten egg as the team fights for a win.

i simply love my self and the way thou thinks.
mwah mwah mwah, oooooh i’m kaepernicking *clap clap clap*

  137. cocobean October 14, 2013 10:00 pm

IT Faux. #131, #136. Scarlett O’Hara told me the same thing….”sir, you’re no gentleman.” Oh wait, she said it to Rhett not me. Sometimes when I get depressed especially when things are not well with my favorite team I drift off into a world of make believe. After the FSU game I imagined myself as Colt and I lead the team for a TD on the last drive of the game.

Anything like that ever happened to you?

  138. SteveM October 14, 2013 10:02 pm

A-House — I think Al meant 4D. It would be on the border of “4E” if it that wasn’t otherwise known as the main drag. 🙂

  139. Independent Thinker October 14, 2013 10:12 pm

cocobean: There is no “faux” in my independent thinking. If you were a private school graduate and a part of our brethren-hood, which includes Jeremy Higgins (we call him “J-Dawg” for short), then you would know this. But you don’t because you were probably one of those filthy public school grads and not an attorney that is paid handsomely to argue for a living.

You, good sir, are most definitely NOT invited to watch UH football in complete silence at my palace on Hawaii Loa Ridge, much less participate in gentlemanly and erudite conversation about football afterward.

    pish posh!

  140. cocobean October 14, 2013 10:33 pm

Calling me sir? Sir? Are you saying you’re promoting me to gentleman of the second order? I know gentlemen of the first order like yourself don’t associate with those below your social class.

Besides I have Sts and wouldn’t be able to attend your gals anyway. Sorry for adding faux to your name should’ve been more polite and used deux instead.

  141. cocobean October 14, 2013 10:33 pm

    galas.

  142. NorthShoreFan October 14, 2013 11:00 pm
